Divide the learners into 2 teams. 1 team will be given a set of artificial fingernail tips to wear
along with instructions on how to put them on and the other team of learners will not be given
artificial fingernail tips. Give both groups bowls of flour and water and instruct them to make
small balls of dough with these materials. Do not allow the first group to remove their fingernail
tips and do not allow the learners to leave the area and/or wash their hands until they have

The Ethical Treatment Of Circus Animals
The circus can be dated back to as far as 1782 in Paris, France where people came to enjoy family
friendly entertainment. The circus has always included tricks and stunts by not only people but also
highly trained animals. For decades now, people have considered the treatment of animal
performances in the circuscruel and unjust. Protesters argue that animals are stripped from their
native lands and forced to preform shows, meanwhile being treated harshly and abused by the
human circus performers. Tigers, elephants, and other animals are trained and forced to entertain
audiences by standing on their heads, jumping through hoops, and doing balance tricks. Spectators
have considered this a spiteful treatment of animals, for it is often physically challenging and
frightening to the animal performers. There have been reports of circus trainers abusing animal
performers with whips, muzzles, and other painful tools. Today, protestors are fighting for animal s
rights and against the use of animals in circuses . Protesters are objecting to animal circus
performers, purely because of the belief that these animals are being forced to do impossible stunts,
are in confined areas, and are abused with painful tools. One of the biggest frustrations of protesters
is the fact that circus animals are held in constant confinement. Protest organization The People for
the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) explains how circus animals in confinement during
travel, are forced to inside inhumane

The Strategies For Development Today
Strategies for Development Today Different views on development that are seen today are based on
the previous lessons learned from strategies used in the past. Protectionism was a strategy used in
the past where countries created steep barriers for imports from other countries. They used this
strategy to help protect their starting industries. Countries didn t open up international market
competition until they were sure they were ready to compete profitably against them. This strategy
worked successfully for the United States, Germany, and Japan. In the second half of the twentieth
century, modern day strategies for development were of influence. Dominant strategies for
development used today are import substitution, state socialism, and... Show more content on

The goal was to catch up their technology with international producers to lower trade barriers over
time. Another advantage of import substitution was the balance of payments. Since the country
produced domestic goods that were once imported, this led to more imports of technology without
causing a deficit. Although import substitution did work out for some countries, it did have its
weaknesses towards the late twentieth century. These countries shifted from agriculture production
to manufacturing goods, which increased global agricultural prices and put food importers in a
tough situation. Another problem was that the domestic production of these countries did not
become competitive with the international markets. Small consumer markets could not reach the
production of important goods for the economies of larger domestic markets or international
markets. Also, since domestic producers do not have competition from foreign producers this
reduces the motivation for technology improvement. This did not prepare firms for the
international market, instead it made them remain incompetent or weak. When the state allocates
market resources instead of allowing the market to regulate the supply and demand of the resources
is an alternative strategy for development called state socialism. This strategy spread after World
War II to

Corporate Culture Into Talent Management
GE and Berkshire Hathaway
When it comes to articulating one company that has been excellent in aligning human capital with
strategy is GE. T Mobile can find an excellent example of GE s six principles identified as the key
to their success. These include: Aligning recruiting efforts with strategy; making sure the company
s talent management practices fit with each other; making deliberate effort to embed corporate
culture into talent management processes such as hiring methods and leadership development;
getting involvement by managers at all levels, including the CEO; Figuring out the best balance of
the company s global and local needs; and Finding ways to differentiate the company from its
competitors (Brokaw, 2012). According to CEO Jeffrey Immelt, the company s talent management
system is its most powerful implementation too.
Berkshire Hathaway is another organization noted for having an excellent talent management plan.
Socialization is what Noe (2013) describes as the process of helping new hires adjust to social and
performance aspects of their new jobs. As we have previously discussed, having an exceptional
talent management strategy which is inclusive of socialization can allow a company competitive
advantage in the market place. Warren Buffet s, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway investments seem to
always outperform the market. There are three key things he focuses on in his talent management
strategy. Communicating pride in confidence in his people, modeling civility

Timbuk2 Case Study
Rob Honeycutt began Timbuk2 in San Francisco, California in 1989. The bicycle messenger
wanted to create a bag that was durable but stylish enough to be marketable. He used an old
sewing machine to make a bag different from the traditional back pack. He is asked about these
handlebar bags by other people while he is still working as a messenger. With an investment of two
hundred dollars, he buys fabric and fasteners. He makes fifty bags and sells them to a local bike
shop (Caltani, 2011). His company Scumbags or Timbuk2, as it is currently called, is born.

and begin the process all over again. These employees were made up of mostly Asian women who
are fast, accurate and have dexterity (Cachon, Cattani, amp; Netessine, 2007).
In 2002, Timbuk2 began making some of its new products in China. There are some of the
company s long time customers that are worried about the made in America product being sent
overseas to China for production. The company states that they have designed new products and
accessories. The company is the same as it was (Timbuk2, 2012). They just want to continue
giving their customer the best product economically. They are able to do this by have the bulk
orders or mass production of bags manufactured in China. The cost of labor and shipment makes
it more cost effective for Timbuk2 to offer their product at their prices. Timbuk2 has stated the
bags are more complex to build. They do not have the machinery and the man power for them to
produce. After researching, Timbuk2 discovered that producing the bag in San Francisco would
make the bags very expensive. They set out to find a factory in China that could make their bags
and continue with the quality they gave their customers. The employees in China work very hard to

The Ethics Of Medical Appointments
Today the Army is an organization that closely manages every penny spent to avoid what it
considers wasteful spending on inefficient practices. Across the board, within the scope of Army
activities exist many practices that are wasteful and take money from other areas of necessity.
Medical treatment by way of medical appointments is one such process that has had to undergo a
shift in practice as medical appointment failures have risen during intense budget constraints. As an
Army major command (MACOM), the medical command has worked to convey that all sites
where medical facilities exist are all echoing the same message across the board to change the
mentality towards missing appointments. With the MEDCOM looking to adjust it own practices
across its own enterprise, the command is also looking to spread the message to supported
MACOM with the intent of spreading an understanding that Corps leaders must update policy and
implement control measures including strategic messaging that stops wasting over $ 4 million in
missed appointments while simultaneously prioritizing mission accomplishment and continuity of
care. Residual cost and missed appointments. Service members view medical appointments as an
opportunistic benefit for their status with the armed forces. More specifically, it was a benefit that
for many years has been taken advantage of only in the fact that if the service member or family
member was not able to make it they simply just did not call and could assume

Black Dirt Research Paper
Black dirt is an important part of healthy growing environment. Erosion and loss of black dirt has
been a problem in the past, but technology and government regulation has improved the problem.
My prediction is that black dirt conservation will be even better in the future.
In the past, soil erosion rapidly depleted black dirt. Breaking up of prairie land with a mow board
plow started the main erosion of black dirt. By 1940 black dirt was reduced by fifty percent from
plowing the soil. (panno.org) . During the dust bowl a single storm dumped 12 million pounds of
black dirt on Chicago. (Soil Quality.org) . Black dirt was dry and wind erosion caused the black
storms or dust bowl. By 1933 the US government made the farm bill conservation service to reduce
the loss of black dirt. (panno.org) . As a result, by 1938, blowing black dirt was reduced by 65%.

The Beautiful Lie What does it truly mean to have freedom? Is freedom the ability to do
whatever you so choose without recourse of any sort? Perhaps freedom is simply a justification
that we use societally to be more accepting of decisions that we choose to make? Traditionally,
one would associate American society and freedom as being one in the same. However, as time
has progressed, there has to become a distinction between the two. One could even say that
perhaps they are the polar opposites of each other as of late due to the constantly evolving nature
of society. As it has been a considerable period of time between that time period of the Immigrant
settlers and innovators that established America and America as we know it as today. This... Show

At the beginning of the story, Lola is a very daughter to her mother Belicia de LeбЅ№n, this
however quickly changes after it is discovered that Belicia has breast cancer. As this event acts
as a catalyst to separate and destroy the relationship between them as Lola s healthiness becomes
a point of contention between them due to the declining health of her mother. On the subject of
Society vs Freedom that relationship is reflected by the seeming obligation that is placed upon
Lola by her mother after she had her cancer treatment. As after Belicia was diagnosed, Lola was
beginning to explore her freedom by becoming a punk chick and seemingly out of spite for how
she and her brother were treated by their ailing mother who was notorious within the town that
they resided within as demonstrated when Lola had decided to shave her head and her friend
Karen s only response was, What about your mother? (Diaz 418). Her mother s response after
she did go through with shaving her head was simply to force Lola to wear a wig, which she
burned on the stove after she was given it right in front of her mother s eyes, to which she was
subsequently slapped by her mother. Also, to Lola s own family she was alienated simply
because she chose to live her life the way she wanted to rather than to live it in a more traditional
sense caring for her ailing mother up to a point in which Lola and Belicia were arguing over the
lack of sympathy that Lola had to Belicia s need for additional testing to be performed all whilst
her brother Oscar was just simply crying in the corner hiding from the conflict. In this case, one
could argue that Oscar is the representation of the ideal person according to the designation that is
an ideal contributing member of society. As contrary to Lola, Oscar does not disobey what is

expressions. The common core standards that apply are; Expressions A SSE.1 Interpret parts of an
expression, such as terms, factors and coefficients. Arithmetic with polynomials and Rational
Expression A APR.1 Understand that polynomials form a system analogous to the integers, namely
that they are closed under the operations of addition, subtraction and multiplication; add, subtract,

foundation to all of the mathematical concepts learned in Algebra 1. Target student Yanni is a 9th
grade student who has difficulty keeping up with classmates of the same age in a developmentally
appropriate learning environment. Yanni has extreme difficulty with comprehending what he reads.
Since he doesn t monitor his comprehension when he reads, he doesn t recognize when he is

Christopher Columbus s `` The Harp And The Shadow `` Essay
For many centuries, Christopher Columbus has been portrayed as a hero who founded America.
As many may discover, later in life, Christopher Columbus can be considered to be the head of a
mass genocide. Alejo Carpentier s novel, The Harp and the Shadow, shines light on the evils of
Christopher Columbus with a fictional twist. Victoria Chase states, Carpentier combines an Old
World perspective, formed by tradition, expectation and necessity, with a decidedly New World
sense of its origin and history (Chase 28). This paper will examine despite what Christopher
Columbuswas famed to be, he is demythologized by Alejo Carpentier s novel when the true side of
Columbus is exposed. Alejo Carpentier writes this new historical novel for a reason: These novels
have as a unique feature: their closeness to the events described in the chronicles of the Indies. It
has been their purpose to preserve what was already told thru conquest documents, yet making
subtle variations to reinforce their agendas (Atia 42). Many point out that Carpentier wrote this
novel because of his political visions of the time, His writings were by and a large notable critique
of bourgeois society and Western civilization. The Harp and the Shadow provides sufficient
evidence of that intellectual attitude in his passionate condemnation of colonialism and the
imposition of bourgeois values in the new continent (Atia 22 23). Carpentier demythologized
Columbus because of these reasons. He begins The Hand

general aspects of physiological and morphological growth and development (Xiya Huang, 2013)
Photomorphogenic responses, frequency controlled, demonstrates how photosynthesis occurs and
how light induces movement (Raven, 2011) The outcome to this is that these responses control a
large amount of a plants lifetime development including, seedgermination, shade avoidance and
flowering (Ying Li, 2011) Photomorphogenisis is therefore the way in which plants develop as well

the no light plants magnitude of curvature far exceeded the light plants. This was evident in the

Looking back, I can clearly remember the moment where I fell in love with murder mysteries. I
can recall sitting on the couch with my dad as a young boy admiring the detectives on CSI as
they tried to solve each case. The thrill of wondering whether or not they would find the true
culprits would entice my young mind. This sense of wonder has stuck with me to this day. The
book The Lovely Bonesby Alice Seboldis a thrilling tale about a young girl getting murdered. The
movie of the same name, directed by Peter Jackson is pretty good too. The book, however; is far
more superior than the movie because of its detail of events, openness of the characters feelings,

The Importance Of Abstract Alphabet
Picture books can be very influential for younger readers as well as many others. Authors
shapes, colors, and context can create different types of emotions and feelings to be presented.
These types of books appeal to the younger reader because of these types of illustrations can
cause the words of the book come to life. This can be said for the book titled Abstract Alphabet.
This book was written and illustrated by former Caldecott Honor recipient Stephen T. Johnson. It
is the perfect picture book for teaching children the alphabet as well as providing unique and
colorful pictures to represent them. Each picture also provides a unique characteristic that can be
appealing for the older reader and the younger student. Abstract Alphabet is an effective children s
picture book because of the colorof the illustrations, the uniqueness of the illustrations, and the
text. To begin, the aspect that is of at most importance in pictures books are clearly the type of
illustrations. Effective illustrations set the tone for the type of book that it will be. To not get
misunderstood, the text is essential as well. However when it comes to young readers, the
pictures are what are going to the most impactful. In Abstract Alphabet, each page provides a
colorful visual of the lower and upper case version of each letter. The letters on each page are also
fairly large so it can be easily seen. This is important because this book for children attempting to

Female And Female Roles And Social Factors
Until the 1970s, sex was known as or related to being a male or either a female. It was also
referred as the sex roles, sex differences or sex changer operation. People saw gender as being
masculine and feminine in certain cultures, like the French and Spanish. Now people see sex in
two ways, either in the biological way or the social factors. Johnson explains the differences
between the biological way and the social factors and the meaning of a maleand femalehas changed
over time and differ by culture. Female and male roles was established by cultural and biological
factors by people around the world. It also has to do with the way people were brought up by
parents and society as a whole. An early feminist named Mary Wollstonecraft wrote a treatise
called Vindication of the Rights of Woman. She wrote this arguing that woman and men are
basically equal. They may be different biologically, but when it comes to the roles of each one
they are the same. She also stated that the roles of society was brought on by society and they aren
t biologically determined (Ojeda 14). Genderhas played a role in my life in so many ways. I was
always told that by older woman and some males that girls are supposed to be seen, not heard. I
always wondered what that meant until I got to a certain age. They meant that females are
supposed to be loving, caring, and quiet and shouldn t draw attention to themselves. I was always
taught in my history classes that males and females have

The Depletion Of The Rat Model Of Monoamine
In the present study, the rat model of depression induced by reserpine was used to evaluate
whether caffeine could treat depression or exaggerate it. The present data revealed that the daily
reserpine treatment for 30 days induced a significant decrease in the cortical and hippocampal
serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine levels. In addition, a decrease in the motor activity was
observed. This was indicated from the data of the open field test that exhibited a significant
decrease in the number of line crossings, number of rearings and number of groomings and a
significant increase in the time spent in the central square and freezing time. Immobility is a state

As a consequence to the oxidative catabolism of cytosolic dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin
by monoamine oxidase, the cellular oxidant, hydrogen peroxide is produced (Youdim et al., 2006).
In addition, monoamines, particularly DA and NA can undergo spontaneous oxidation in the
cytoplasm, and this may lead to the damage of cellular structures ( Wasik et al., 2009). The
byproducts of these reactions include a number of potentially neurotoxic species, such as hydrogen
peroxide and ammonia ( Barros MiЛњnones et al., 2015). In particular, hydrogen peroxide can
trigger the production of reactive oxygen species and induce mitochondrial damage and neuronal
apoptosis (Bortolato et al., 2008). The present findings revealed that reserpine induced oxidative
stress in the cortex and hippocampus. This was indicated from the significant increase in lipid
peroxidation (MDA) and nitric oxide (NO) levels together with the significant decrease in reduced
glutathione (GSH). Under such conditions of inhibition of VMAT 2 induced by reserpine and the
effect of monamine oxidase, the oxidative catabolism may explain the present oxidative stress
induced in the cortex and hippocampus of rat model of depression. Malondialdehyde is produced
from decomposition of products of lipid peroxidation (GaweЕ‚ et al., 2004). Thus, the observed
increased MDA levels may arise from the attack of the neuronal membrane phospholipids by free
radicals produced from monoamine catabolism. In addition, the

Factors That Influence Tsarina Alexandra Had On Tsar...
The fall of the Romanovs can be put down to a number of factors, one of them being the
influence Tsarina Alexandra had on Tsar Nicholas II. Due to her close relationship with the Tsar
she was able to influence and manipulate him in a number of ways and convinced him to hold on
to his autocratic power no matter what. As a result of her intervention she can be seen as a
significant figure in the fall of the autocratic system. Her significance can be measured by a number
of factors such as her relationship with the Tsar and the influence she had over him, her relationship
with the Russian people as a result of her German roots, and finally her relationship with the monk
Rasputin and the influence he had over both the Tsarina and the Tsar. The

Although it was the Tsar s actions that lead to many riots and fuelled the fire for revolution, he
made those decisions because of the Tsarina and her influence. She had no political knowledge
but that didn t stop her from getting involved, she was a firm believer that the Tsar deserved his
autocratic power and it was the will of God that he was in the position he was in. This belief led
her to encourage him to ignore many people who could have potentially helped preserve the
autocratic system by helping the Tsar make sensible decisions regarding the situation at hand. The
fact that the Tsarina assumed an active political role later on and would often let Rasputin to get
involved was a major factor in bringing about the fall of the Romanovs. She was unpopular as it
was, but by attempting to make such big decisions without the advice of the Duma, she was in fact
destroying the autocratic system rather than saving it as she thought she was doing. Not only did
she continue to encourage the Tsar to ignore all others, she often undermined his authority by
overruling decisions made by him. By getting involved in the way she did, she only further
increased her own popularity but was also starting to unintentionally take the Tsar down with

Small Business Deductions
If you own your own small business, you know about deducting your business expenses. To be
deductible, the Internal Revenue Service says an expense needs to be both ordinary and
necessary. An ordinary expense is one that is common and accepted in your trade or business. A
necessary expense is one that is helpful or appropriate for your trade or business. An expense
does not have to be indispensable to be considered necessary. But unless you are meticulous
about keeping your receipts and thinking about your business, you may miss many small
deductions that can really add up by the end of the year. For instance, think about your car. You
probably try to keep track of the mileage you drive your car for business appointments. But do
you also keep track of the mileage you drive to the bank, to the post office, or to the office supply
store? These miles can really add up. You should also consider how you can make regular errands
into business trips.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

avenue. You just happened to pick up lunch while you were there. See how easy it can be?
Because it s easier, most small business owners just take the standard mileage deduction. But in
some instances, it makes more sense to deduct your actual expenses, especially if you start your

year. You should consider keeping track of these other expenses so you can compare your tax

Summary Of Nancy Farmer s NovelThe House Of The Scorpion
Nancy Farmer s novel, The House of the Scorpion, is set in the not too distant future that is similar
enough to our current world that it can be unsettling and eerie. It s like the present but flipped
upside down. The story walks us through places we know, but are given different names, which
throws the readerfor a loop. It s a bit uncanny to think of places that are so familiar as different
countries, with name like Opium and Aztlan. As the reader travels through the story along with the
characters, it becomes clear that Nancy Farmerwanted her fictional world to resemble reality.
Further in the book, we come to learn that Opium is actually Arizona, the place that Nancy
Farmer was born. In the beginning of the novel, the readers are just as confused as Matt, the
main character, when it comes to the geography. Fortunately, Matt comes across a book, A
History of Opium, that informs both Matt and the reader more about this new world: The
MacGregors ruled the land near San Diego, and the Alacrans had a vast empire stretching from
central California all across Arizona and into New Mexico. Gradually, Opium changes from no
man s land to a real country. And its supreme leader, dictator, and fuhrer was Matteo Alacran
(169 170 Farmer). It also comes to our knowledge that Opium is a country ruled by drug lords
that is wedged in between the United States and Aztlan. It is also concluded that Opium is a dry,
desert like place. The only plant that grows there, aside from El Patron s

Bess s mother was overly expressive about cleanliness and more often than not, she would openly
convey the importance of it as well as hand washing within their home. Bess, at the time was lost
as to why her mother would stress cleanliness so strongly and so often. This caused Bess to resist
her mother s demands at home pertaining to cleanliness but, she did comply with her mother s
value system in school (Meyer, Chapman amp; Weaver, 2009, p.44). Bess was of very high
intellect, extremely hardworking, meticulous and very successful in school.
During late adolescence, Bess began acquiring erotic fantasies but could control them by
completing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Bess had no problems maintaining friendships with
guys; however sexual and romantic relationships were what posed a challenge. While a senior in
high school, Bess dated a college guy who frequently asked for sex, in which Bess refused. One
drunken night, they engaged in sex and from and for a period of several weeks they had sex
daily. Bess became pregnant and her mother immediately arranged for an abortion. Afterwards,
Bess continued to have vague anxieties about dating, marriage, having a family, and other related
issues (Meyer, Chapman, amp; Weaver, 2009, p. 45). Bess was determined to work even harder to
cope with these anxieties. Similar to her mother s model of cleanliness, Bess too began
experiencing these symptoms.

The Social Aspects of Prejudice
The Social Aspects of Prejudice Since the beginning of time humans unknowingly, have placed
themselves in social classes. These social classes account for the many stereotypical type who
have been plagued in different groups. It is something many cannot help, but we all have our
own thoughts and perceptions. Whether they are rich or poor, a man or a woman holding the
many different beliefs of religion, they still are prone to prejudice. Prejudice is a favorable
option or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought or reason. Social
psychological theories known as Culture Theory and Group Closure, have best accounted for
one my prejudice and the factors that helped me to realize and to overcome this prejudice. For
instance one day I was on Craigslist applying for jobs because soon I would be graduating soon and
I wanted to have a job already in my field of study. While applying, I received an email from
AMAC, a school for special needs children. In the email, I was notified to come in on a specific
date and time with a copy of my resume. I replied and proceeded to go into the interview a few

Phonograph Parlors
Commercialization of Records The Record Labels
In 1889 Phonograph Parlors began to open up, marking the debut of phonographs to the mass
market. The first phonograph parlor opened up in San Francisco May of 1889. Almost all
American cities had at least one by the mid 1890 s. These parlors would allow customers to sit
amongst a desk and speak through a tube to request a recorded title. The title would then play
through a cylinder phonograph from a room located below, allowing the customer to listen to it
through two ear horns at their private desk.
At the time the mass production of records was still in its infancy and was very primitive. One of
the first recording methods had live performers record their tracks onto a phonograph embodying
up to ten tubes leading to blank cylinders within other phonographs. Prior to this, each record had to
be individually produced. Nonetheless, even with this method artist had to re record their songs
multiple times.
In terms of audio fidelity, grampaphone discs were not superior to cylinder records. Up until the
early 1900 s both cylinder and disc recordings were available. The disc method, on the other hand,
did provide further manufacturing advantages as for discs could be efficiently stamped allowing
them to be easily mass produced.

Homosexuality And Sexual Orientation Paper
Sexuality has become a prominent issue in today s society as the world are becoming more
liberated by educational and ethical discussion. In Sociosexual orientation, homosexuality is one of
the topic that has been most discussed. People have been actively seeking for answers for the
question why are humans, or other animals, attracted to partner that has the same sex of
themselves; when there are no evolutionary implications yet. Moreover, many others, especially the

What Is The Most Functional Form Of Government
There are many different forms of government and many different types of leaders. A constitutional
monarchy is the most functional form of government. This form of government is best because it
has one distinct leader, a parliament that helps the monarch, and there is a balance of power
throughout the government. The king or queen is the leader of a constitutional monarchy. In this
type of monarchy, the king or queen can do whatever he or she pleases as long as it is within the
boundaries of the constitution and parliament agrees with it. They usually get their position by

Intelligence In Law Enforcement
1. The value and significance of intelligence in law enforcement activities has been growing since
the events of 9/11 when it became apparent that the world s most powerful nation was unable to
protect its people from uneducated goat herders, who chose to carry out terrorist activities. One can
spot claims that the CIA and other intelligence agencies knew about the upcoming terrorist attacks,
they were unable to effectively coordinate their activities with the policeto apprehend the terrorists
(Conser, 2014). The Madrid and London Metro bombings in 2008 and the 2015 2016 terrorist
attacks in Europe (France, Brussels) again showed that police could only react to preplanned attacks
and thus was rather inefficient and ineffective. Since terrorismbecomes a major threat, the need for
police to have updated (or real time) intelligence information available on their computers to better
react to the threats (Spindlove, 2015). What is more important, since the street level officers work
among citizens in the community, with access to proper intelligence information, they can be the
first to face, stop and frisk and apprehend terrorists or other criminals before they engage in crime.
Therefore, the value and significance of intelligence in law enforcement activities will continue to
grow in foreseeable future.

The Hr Issues Related On The Migration Failure Essay
In order to understand the HR issues involved in HPs migration failure, I started by looking at
the company s corporate culture from origins to date. I needed to determine what had changed as
Hewlett Packard already had numerous successful implementations previously given their vast
experience in the computer industry and there long established relationship with software
provider SAP. The current study identified that the founders of HP, Bill Hewlett Dave Packard
created an effective management style which contained a set of values that defined how they
wanted the company and its workforce to perform. This was known as the HP way . The main
emphasis was on innovation through creating new quality products that added value to their
customers requirements and secondly to create a supportive corporate culture as HPs employees
where seen as the company s biggest resource who together their capabilities accomplished
something for the greater good of the organisation. HPs employees where seen as the company s
biggest asset and in turn they were given the opportunity to share in the company s success
through profit sharing plans, they were given tuition to upskill, and the company offered flexi
time and job sharing programs to its employees. Having researched the concept of the HP way I
have discovered that many companies have also adopted this approach into their own business
practices the following points are my understanding of Hewlett Packard s core values

Neoclassical architectural style building is located on the eastern edge of Central Park in New

Suburban Realism In The Swimmer
One of the primary aspects of literature that makes it multifaceted is its ability to reflect the
attitudes, beliefs, values, and customs of a particular time period or society by focusing on issues
central to these cultures. Thus, as civilizations have expanded globally, literature has also grown to
accommodate and reflect upon their problems. Once suburban neighborhoods and an upper middle
class began to rapidly emerge in the United States, American authors began to explore and uncover
the problems faced among the populations of these areas. Consequently, pieces of literature,
particularly short stories, began to fall within the aesthetic of Suburban Realism, which is defined

The Wonderful Bedroom
Have you ever wondered how something so simple as your bedroom could have so much

means as much as a gym does to a basketball player or as much as a tree does to a monkey. But then
there are also those who still think of their bedroom as just a place to sleep and prepare themselves.
I guess things have different meanings for each person, but for many including myself, their

And what could possibly be a more relaxing place than your own room? It s amazing how one can

Not only is the bedroom a perfect place to sleep and study, but what if you just want to get away
and relax? In your room, you get to control things for yourself, such as the temperature. It s not
like outside where you can t do anything about the weather, but rather, you choose how cool or
warm you want it. You get to make your bed as comfortable as you wish. This is your space, it s
not fit for anybody else s needs but your own. Ever try and watch what you want on TV while

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Germany s Electoral System
Thus far, the details of the main institutions of France and Germany have been outlined. The issue
is now to compare these and highlight the weaknesses and strengths of each country against the
other as regards such institutions.
As regards electoral systems, Frances majoritarian two round system is a more simple method,
delivering the greater amount of seats to the main parties of the left and right over smaller parties.
Although harming representation, this helps in the creation of stable governments. The PR List
system of Germany theoretically ensures minority representation to a greater degree than the
French system, while at the same time maintaining two main parties (representing the left and right,
in broad terms). Coalitions though are still a common outcome, such as today s SPD and CDU
/CSU government, and thus governments are not as strong as France. Representation may be
greater, but stability is weaker. Ultimately, the system preferred by a nation depends upon the

Women in Athens and Sparta were treated completely different. Women in Sparta were viewed
more equally, while the women in Athens were treated like slaves. Women in a Greek city/state
known as Athens, were not educated, and were treated the same if not worse than slaves (Athenian,
2005). In Athens, Women lived in a society completely dominated by men (O Pry, 2012). This all
ended when the women of Sparta(a Greek city/state) were seen overcoming these issues. The life
of a woman in Athens was completely different than a Spartan. Women were treated differently, in

Spartan women definitely over ruled the other Greek city/states. Both Athenian and Spartan
women still had no political rights, but they could give their own political opinions to men (O
Pry,2012). The women in Athens couldn t leave their homes, therefore they couldn t talk to
men. In Sparta the women ran all estates and had all rights to go out in public (Fleck, 2007). In
Athens, Greece No women, foreigners, or slaves were considered citizens (O Pry, 2012). This
changed in Sparta when the women came out ruling their city/state. Spartans educated them
much in the same way as the boys attending school (O Pry, 2012). While in Athens, had little to
no education. In Athens no women had a choice of who they married. This was all decided by
the father. The women in Athens did have the right to divorce, but had to get permission from
her husband first, and had the chance of losing custody of her children. In Sparta women had the
right to marry and divorce as needed. If a woman s husband was at war to long they had the right
to remarry (Athenian, 2005). This was something researchers have never seen before causing
them to become very confused on this situation. Even though Sparta came out looking strong
they had their downfalls. When the population of children started to go down, because the
expenses were going up, the helots came in to attack (Like they did every year). The helots
defeated them due to the military downsize. This caused Spartans to believe women were the
cause, Spartans lost all the land they conquered in Messenia, and were now just like all the regular
Greek city/states. Change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end (Robin
Sharma). In the end it probably turned out not to be a bad idea

Altruism and Community Service
Altruism is generally understood as performing an act that benefits others at a personal cost. This
means that altruism involves sacrifice. Altruism, however, is not only a physical act, but an
emotional undertaking. An emotional undertaking means that altruism is a state of being. Altruism
draws intense philosophical, psychological, and socio political arguments. In as much as most
people prefer the benefits that altruism grants to the society, they are wary of its moral foundations.
Notably, most famous people in history have essentially performed given altruistic acts that

usually shows humanity at its ultimate level. It provides the distinction between human beings and
other animals that merely live on their instincts. Altruism involves a sense of growth and nurture to
the person who commits the act. This correlates with the studies that proved that the mere act of

The Warfare During The American Civil War
The conduct of warfare during the American Civil War best exemplified one characteristic of the
Western way of war, which without its incorporation could have drastically changed the outcome of
the war and the existence of the United States as we know it. This characteristic demonstrated is
innovation. Innovation as a characteristic of the Western way of war best exemplifies the American
Civil Warbased on the telegraph, the rifled musketand the railroad. Had the Union and United States
government not leveraged the above mentioned technologies the outcome of the war could have
resulted in the division of this country. From the onset of the Civil War the South possessed two
advantages. One was geography and the other was that it did not have to win the war. The
vastness of the United State presented command and control challenges and logistical challenge
for both Union and Confederal forces. This before mentioned challenge played into the
Confederate forces other advantage which was they could simple keep the Union forces to a draw
during the war and thus ensuring their future as an independent country. For the Union forces to
overcome the challenge of geography and to not result in a draw they used innovations such as the
telegraph to communicate orders to Soldiers over vast distances and thus making geography and
the tyranny of distance a less of an advantage for the Confederate forces. The ability for leadership
to convey timely orders to their military

Dirt ! The Movie Analysis
Dirt! The Movie Dirt! Was a very interesting movie. I never looked at dirt the way that the
scientist looked at dirt. The way they talk about how everything works together and how dirt
was the first living organism on earth was something I honestly didn t know. Normally science
and religion are very different on how life began and how things came to be, it was interesting
how this movie incorporated both in the story. One of the most interesting stories was the one
about the guy who had the garden grow in the back of his truck while he was in the hospital. I ve
exactly seen this before in the junkyard before but never looked at it in a way of how life in that
truck came to be and how it grows in an environment like that. It seems as if dirt... Show more

I always saw those in Afghanistan and never knew that about them I just thought that people
built them because they had no money. They mix it up like cement almost its looks almost the
same without the chemicals. The adding of pesticides can also deplete the life of the dirt and
possibly kill of the soil needed to grow crops for future farmers. The fact that our own pesticides
are killing off the soil and then running into the water is scary. To think that we drink that water
and some places use it to water their own plants. I could not believe how many trees are being
destroyed and how a lot of them are being used for things like catalogs and newspaper adds that
most of us just through away, we are wasting them and don t even think about it. Soil is a living
systems that cannot with stand all of these chemicals and erosion that are constantly being done
to it. We are hurting the farmers and the land because of greed for money. The movie connects to
your human side and really makes you think of the pain and strain we are putting on humans
around the world because of what we have done wrong in agriculture. There are people eating
yellow dirt cakes as food, how could we let it get to that. I would never eat one of those, how can
the world not see this and try and help or stop doing what we are doing. We have to do better and

Anglo-Saxon Poems The Seafarer And The Wife s Lament
Anglo Saxon poems revolved around the threat of exile. The writings reflected the fear that
many faced when exile threatened them. The Seafarer, The Wanderer, and The Wife s Lament,
each have a source of Anglo Saxon anxiety of exile. This shows up in their writings and their
emotions. Anglo Saxon concepts of exile include the loss of a remembered home, it could be
forced upon or chosen, and it can be used as a punishment; because Anglo Saxons believe in
kinsmanship. Along with the belief of kinsmanship came the belief that one should be physically
and mentally strong. Anglo Saxons feared to be exiled and this was shown within many Anglo
Saxon poems. This was seen as a punishment. After exile a Anglo Saxon would feel lonely and lost.

He is forced into exile which is another thing that many Anglo Saxons would fear. He
remembers the loss of his loved ones and his old village. He feels lost and wishes he could go
back home. He knows that he has no one to talk to. At the end of this poem the Wanderer talks
about how sad he is and how thinks about the slaughter of his loved ones everyday. He is upset
that he knows he has to keep his thoughts to himself because of the death of his loved one. This
reflects the Anglo Saxon fear of exile because it shows how they would feel if they became exiled

Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander Peoples
A third consideration in regard with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is the
meaning of sovereignty. The discourse on sovereignty is obscure and non reflexive. It situates itself
somewhere between moral axiology, social ideology and political and legal authority. The link
between sovereignty and politics within the public discourse often mask oppressive power relations
between Indigenous and non Indigenous people (Prokhovnik, 2015). Furthermore, the mainstream
political discourse undoubtedly takes sovereignty as though it really were an uncontested
foundation , which erases the significance of the Indigenous as the first nations (Prokhovnik, 2015,
p. 415). For the settlers, perhaps their self importance as imperialists was more valued than
embracing new notions of nationalism (Ward, 2001). For them, the establishment of colonies
represented the expression of the external power of sovereign European states, even if only possible
as a result of conquest, and their colonies were considered sufficient justification for the imposition
of sovereign power (Patton, 1996, p. 149). Unfortunately, this unresolved ambivalence about the
colonisation of Australiahas also left the peoples of this country with an ambivalent identity
(Connors, 2001). The white Australian sovereignty was first granted by an Act of the Parliament of
the UK in 1901, then was recognised as an independent dominion in 1931 (Prokhovnik, 2015). In

Political Party Vs Planned Parenthood
When it comes to how which political party and interest group have helped shaped my mindset
about our current age of politics, the first two that come to mind would be the Republican
Political Party and Planned Parenthood (the interest group). When it comes to participation I
honestly have little if at all any of it within any of these political influences. I can ally myself
with these ideologies and properly defend my views on them and on other aspects as well, but I
don t go out of my own personal way to state my views and protest on behalf of them. In short, I
support my own views on these influences but don t go out of my way to support them besides
my vote in elections and personal defense on my beliefs if the topic ever comes up. The... Show

Social Determinants Of Health May Influence The Burden Of...
1. a. Social determinants of health may influence the burden of disease on global health in many
ways. There are major differences in the leading causes of death between low income, middle
income, and high income countries (Moss, 2015). These differences are the result of the varied
level of wealth, access to healthcare and clean water, knowledge of health care needs, and the
countries ability to provide adequate health care to their citizens. Therefore, certain diseases are
more prevalent in poor countries versus wealthy countries (Moss, 2015). For example, HIV/AIDS,
Malaria, and tuberculosis are major killers in low income countries. Moreover, some preventable
diseases are also prevalent in the low income countries, such as lower respiratory infections,
diarrheal disease, premature and low weight births, and neonatal infections (Moss, 2015). Infectious
diseases remain the leading causes of death among the middle income countries. At older age, the
leading causes of death changes to non communicable chronic diseases, such as heart disease,
stroke, and cancer. This corresponds to the leading causes of death among high income countries
(Moss, 2015). Therefore, high income countries spend a significant amount of their GDP on
chronic non communicable diseases while low income countries spend a significant amount of their
GDP on communicable diseases, such as HIV, Malaria, and Tuberculosis (Moss, 2015).

high. This time we are starting out on the outskirts of London, (Marlow). A growing obesity
epidemic has not stopped the hopes for opening even more donut franchises throughout London. In
an article from the Daily Telegraph, Marlow explains the growing love for the sugary treats;
Despite the current war on sugar and obesity, the renaissance in baking and sweet treats has seen
cupcakes, macaroons, and more recently doughnuts become more popular than ever with sales

different market it serves. It sells shredded pork and seaweed doughnuts in China, kimchi varieties
for its Korean market, and a lentil cocoa in India, and will feature less exotic items in UK, such as
bacon and sausage butties (chip sandwich), and porridge (Marlow). Dunkin Donuts has even taken

Owls In The Elizabethan Era
The Reversal Theme
As the dagger is extracted from Duncan s corpse, owls hoot as darkness conquers while the
Divine Order of society is overturned by Macbeth s bloody hands. In Shakespeare s Macbeth, a
reversal in the Divine Order occurs as unnatural events filled with destruction occur to leave
Scotland in turmoil. In the Elizabethan Era, the Divine Order categorizes society in a structured
ranking system in which God rules over everyone and under him is the King. The same follows

Subsequently, those of a lower ranking are now going beyond their normal order and replacing
the higher ruler. On the other hand, owls symbolize death and darkness which therefore allows the

Biography of Rapper Rich Boy Essay
Despite what it alludes to, Zone 4/Interscope Records rap signee Rich Boy insists his moniker is
just a neighborhood nickname ( It doesn t stand for being rich or anything like that. ) not a
glimpse into his finances. Maybe so, but with the multifaceted talents that 21 year old Marece
Richards possesses, his nom de plume will be even more fitting shortly with the release of his
debut album, TBD?
Born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, Rich Boy grew up in a typical hood upbringing with both
positive and negative influences. My dad all he did was work all day. His father owns a liquor store

Within in a year Roy Jones Jr. had come upon one of his beat CDs and ended up purchasing

Rich Boy. The first check was small but enough to make him start thinking he had a future in the
rap business. After his freshman year he decided to step out on faith and leave school to pursue
his dreams of becoming a full time producer. I took the money I was supposed to use to pay for
school and brought equipment with it, he reveals. I took a big gamble .
Maybe a name like Rich Boy helped his odds? As a youngster he was influenced by Southern rap
legends like UGK, 8 Ball MJG, Crime Boss, ESG Too Short. The rap scene in Mobile always
thrived but he admits that getting on the radio is no easy task, keeping local artists just that,
local. Undaunted, he would finagle his way into the local radio station (93 WBLX) by claiming
to have an appointment with a station DJ in order to get by reception. I decided to rap over one
of my own beats and [try] to put in on the radio explains Rich Boy. He eventually got his music
into the hands of evening personality Nick at Nite, The Krunkmonster, who started playing Rich

Boy.
Soon after, Atlanta based rap outfit Jim Crow

Symbols In Midaq Alley
Naguib Mahfouz was a prestigious Egyptian writer, who wrote several notable novels, such as
Midaq Alley (1947) and The Cairo Trilogy . He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1988.
(Nobelprize.org, The Nobel Prize in Literature 1988 ). Midaq Alley is set 1940s Egypt, during
World War II, while Egyptwas still a monarchy, and under British occupation. Mahfouz s characters
are often symbolic. In Midaq Alley, Hamida, the protagonist symbolizes Egypt. Hamida is Egypt
due to her rebellious nature, her independence, and ambition.

moments when she was free and others when she was being controlled and her beauty was like
no other in the eyes of men, and Egypt was under the rule of several empires and countries
throughout its history and others wished to invade and control all that it had to offer. Several
desired both, but in the end, both wished to govern themselves and be independent. Hamida s
ambition is portrayed through her unwavering desire to live the modern way and have an
abundance of wealth and power, but is consistent in who she is throughout the entire novel, and
Egypt s ambition is portrayed through its people s desire to have what s rightfully theirs and live
under the system they deem worthy, as well as being ruled by their own people. Both know where
their hearts lie and will carry on persevering to achieve their goals. Therefore, in Naguib Mahfouz s

First Amendment In Schools
As the First Amendment protects the freedom of speech to all Americans, there needs to be
some sort of limit on when students go overboard. There are many different types of speech in
which it can cause disruptions in the classroom when teachers and students state their own
opinions that don t always go with what the others agree with. Things such as the place of where
they speak these things are affective to whether their claims are legal or illegal on any school
campus. When students cause a disruption, even across the street from a school supervised event
while promoting illegal drug use like Joseph Frederick did, it needs to be stopped as soon as
possible whether it goes against the freedom of a student s speech or not. In the court case... Show

freedom of speech is said by Catherine Rampell when a college professor was speaking of her
opinions politically and a student had recorded her in the classroom. That student had posted it
on the internet where it had gone viral and even got onto Fox News where they referred to the
words she told the students to be an assault. This professor received threats and riots to get her

  • 3. The Ethical Treatment Of Circus Animals The circus can be dated back to as far as 1782 in Paris, France where people came to enjoy family friendly entertainment. The circus has always included tricks and stunts by not only people but also highly trained animals. For decades now, people have considered the treatment of animal performances in the circuscruel and unjust. Protesters argue that animals are stripped from their native lands and forced to preform shows, meanwhile being treated harshly and abused by the human circus performers. Tigers, elephants, and other animals are trained and forced to entertain audiences by standing on their heads, jumping through hoops, and doing balance tricks. Spectators have considered this a spiteful treatment of animals, for it is often physically challenging and frightening to the animal performers. There have been reports of circus trainers abusing animal performers with whips, muzzles, and other painful tools. Today, protestors are fighting for animal s rights and against the use of animals in circuses . Protesters are objecting to animal circus performers, purely because of the belief that these animals are being forced to do impossible stunts, are in confined areas, and are abused with painful tools. One of the biggest frustrations of protesters is the fact that circus animals are held in constant confinement. Protest organization The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) explains how circus animals in confinement during travel, are forced to inside inhumane ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Strategies For Development Today Strategies for Development Today Different views on development that are seen today are based on the previous lessons learned from strategies used in the past. Protectionism was a strategy used in the past where countries created steep barriers for imports from other countries. They used this strategy to help protect their starting industries. Countries didn t open up international market competition until they were sure they were ready to compete profitably against them. This strategy worked successfully for the United States, Germany, and Japan. In the second half of the twentieth century, modern day strategies for development were of influence. Dominant strategies for development used today are import substitution, state socialism, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The goal was to catch up their technology with international producers to lower trade barriers over time. Another advantage of import substitution was the balance of payments. Since the country produced domestic goods that were once imported, this led to more imports of technology without causing a deficit. Although import substitution did work out for some countries, it did have its weaknesses towards the late twentieth century. These countries shifted from agriculture production to manufacturing goods, which increased global agricultural prices and put food importers in a tough situation. Another problem was that the domestic production of these countries did not become competitive with the international markets. Small consumer markets could not reach the production of important goods for the economies of larger domestic markets or international markets. Also, since domestic producers do not have competition from foreign producers this reduces the motivation for technology improvement. This did not prepare firms for the international market, instead it made them remain incompetent or weak. When the state allocates market resources instead of allowing the market to regulate the supply and demand of the resources is an alternative strategy for development called state socialism. This strategy spread after World War II to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

T Mobile can find an excellent example of GE s six principles identified as the key to their success. These include: Aligning recruiting efforts with strategy; making sure the company s talent management practices fit with each other; making deliberate effort to embed corporate culture into talent management processes such as hiring methods and leadership development; getting involvement by managers at all levels, including the CEO; Figuring out the best balance of the company s global and local needs; and Finding ways to differentiate the company from its competitors (Brokaw, 2012). According to CEO Jeffrey Immelt, the company s talent management system is its most powerful implementation too. Berkshire Hathaway is another organization noted for having an excellent talent management plan. Socialization is what Noe (2013) describes as the process of helping new hires adjust to social and performance aspects of their new jobs. As we have previously discussed, having an exceptional talent management strategy which is inclusive of socialization can allow a company competitive advantage in the market place. The bicycle messenger wanted to create a bag that was durable but stylish enough to be marketable. He used an old sewing machine to make a bag different from the traditional back pack. He is asked about these handlebar bags by other people while he is still working as a messenger. With an investment of two hundred dollars, he buys fabric and fasteners. • 7. The Ethics Of Medical Appointments Today the Army is an organization that closely manages every penny spent to avoid what it considers wasteful spending on inefficient practices. Across the board, within the scope of Army activities exist many practices that are wasteful and take money from other areas of necessity. Medical treatment by way of medical appointments is one such process that has had to undergo a shift in practice as medical appointment failures have risen during intense budget constraints. As an Army major command (MACOM), the medical command has worked to convey that all sites where medical facilities exist are all echoing the same message across the board to change the mentality towards missing appointments. With the MEDCOM looking to adjust it own practices across its own enterprise, the command is also looking to spread the message to supported MACOM with the intent of spreading an understanding that Corps leaders must update policy and implement control measures including strategic messaging that stops wasting over $ 4 million in missed appointments while simultaneously prioritizing mission accomplishment and continuity of care. Erosion and loss of black dirt has been a problem in the past, but technology and government regulation has improved the problem. My prediction is that black dirt conservation will be even better in the future. In the past, soil erosion rapidly depleted black dirt. Breaking up of prairie land with a mow board plow started the main erosion of black dirt. By 1940 black dirt was reduced by fifty percent from plowing the soil. (panno.org) . During the dust bowl a single storm dumped 12 million pounds of black dirt on Chicago. (Soil Quality.org) . Black dirt was dry and wind erosion caused the black storms or dust bowl. By 1933 the US government made the farm bill conservation service to reduce the loss of black dirt. (panno.org) . As a result, by 1938, blowing black dirt was reduced by 65%. • 9. Wildwood By Junot Diaz The Beautiful Lie What does it truly mean to have freedom? Is freedom the ability to do whatever you so choose without recourse of any sort? Perhaps freedom is simply a justification that we use societally to be more accepting of decisions that we choose to make? Traditionally, one would associate American society and freedom as being one in the same. However, as time has progressed, there has to become a distinction between the two. One could even say that perhaps they are the polar opposites of each other as of late due to the constantly evolving nature of society. As it has been a considerable period of time between that time period of the Immigrant settlers and innovators that established America and America as we know it as today. This... At the beginning of the story, Lola is a very daughter to her mother Belicia de LeбЅ№n, this however quickly changes after it is discovered that Belicia has breast cancer. As this event acts as a catalyst to separate and destroy the relationship between them as Lola s healthiness becomes a point of contention between them due to the declining health of her mother. On the subject of Society vs Freedom that relationship is reflected by the seeming obligation that is placed upon Lola by her mother after she had her cancer treatment. As after Belicia was diagnosed, Lola was beginning to explore her freedom by becoming a punk chick and seemingly out of spite for how she and her brother were treated by their ailing mother who was notorious within the town that they resided within as demonstrated when Lola had decided to shave her head and her friend Karen s only response was, What about your mother? (Diaz 418). Her mother s response after she did go through with shaving her head was simply to force Lola to wear a wig, which she burned on the stove after she was given it right in front of her mother s eyes, to which she was subsequently slapped by her mother. Also, to Lola s own family she was alienated simply because she chose to live her life the way she wanted to rather than to live it in a more traditional sense caring for her ailing mother up to a point in which Lola and Belicia were arguing over the lack of sympathy that Lola had to Belicia s need for additional testing to be performed all whilst her brother Oscar was just simply crying in the corner hiding from the conflict. In this case, one could argue that Oscar is the representation of the ideal person according to the designation that is an ideal contributing member of society. • 11. Christopher Columbus s `` The Harp And The Shadow `` Essay For many centuries, Christopher Columbus has been portrayed as a hero who founded America. As many may discover, later in life, Christopher Columbus can be considered to be the head of a mass genocide. Alejo Carpentier s novel, The Harp and the Shadow, shines light on the evils of Christopher Columbus with a fictional twist. Victoria Chase states, Carpentier combines an Old World perspective, formed by tradition, expectation and necessity, with a decidedly New World sense of its origin and history (Chase 28). This paper will examine despite what Christopher Columbuswas famed to be, he is demythologized by Alejo Carpentier s novel when the true side of Columbus is exposed. Alejo Carpentier writes this new historical novel for a reason: These novels have as a unique feature: their closeness to the events described in the chronicles of the Indies. It has been their purpose to preserve what was already told thru conquest documents, yet making subtle variations to reinforce their agendas (Atia 42). Many point out that Carpentier wrote this novel because of his political visions of the time, His writings were by and a large notable critique of bourgeois society and Western civilization. The Harp and the Shadow provides sufficient evidence of that intellectual attitude in his passionate condemnation of colonialism and the imposition of bourgeois values in the new continent (Atia 22 23). It was also referred as the sex roles, sex differences or sex changer operation. People saw gender as being masculine and feminine in certain cultures, like the French and Spanish. Now people see sex in two ways, either in the biological way or the social factors. Johnson explains the differences between the biological way and the social factors and the meaning of a maleand femalehas changed over time and differ by culture. Female and male roles was established by cultural and biological factors by people around the world. It also has to do with the way people were brought up by parents and society as a whole. An early feminist named Mary Wollstonecraft wrote a treatise called Vindication of the Rights of Woman. She wrote this arguing that woman and men are basically equal. They may be different biologically, but when it comes to the roles of each one they are the same. She also stated that the roles of society was brought on by society and they aren t biologically determined (Ojeda 14). Genderhas played a role in my life in so many ways. The Depletion Of The Rat Model Of Monoamine In the present study, the rat model of depression induced by reserpine was used to evaluate whether caffeine could treat depression or exaggerate it. The present data revealed that the daily reserpine treatment for 30 days induced a significant decrease in the cortical and hippocampal serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine levels. In addition, a decrease in the motor activity was observed. This was indicated from the data of the open field test that exhibited a significant decrease in the number of line crossings, number of rearings and number of groomings and a significant increase in the time spent in the central square and freezing time. As a consequence to the oxidative catabolism of cytosolic dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin by monoamine oxidase, the cellular oxidant, hydrogen peroxide is produced (Youdim et al., 2006). In addition, monoamines, particularly DA and NA can undergo spontaneous oxidation in the cytoplasm, and this may lead to the damage of cellular structures ( Wasik et al., 2009). The byproducts of these reactions include a number of potentially neurotoxic species, such as hydrogen peroxide and ammonia ( Barros MiЛњnones et al., 2015). In particular, hydrogen peroxide can trigger the production of reactive oxygen species and induce mitochondrial damage and neuronal apoptosis (Bortolato et al., 2008). The present findings revealed that reserpine induced oxidative stress in the cortex and hippocampus. This was indicated from the significant increase in lipid peroxidation (MDA) and nitric oxide (NO) levels together with the significant decrease in reduced glutathione (GSH). Under such conditions of inhibition of VMAT 2 induced by reserpine and the effect of monamine oxidase, the oxidative catabolism may explain the present oxidative stress induced in the cortex and hippocampus of rat model of depression. Malondialdehyde is produced from decomposition of products of lipid peroxidation (GaweЕ‚ et al., 2004). Thus, the observed increased MDA levels may arise from the attack of the neuronal membrane phospholipids by free radicals produced from monoamine catabolism. In addition, the ... The first phonograph parlor opened up in San Francisco May of 1889. Almost all American cities had at least one by the mid 1890 s. These parlors would allow customers to sit amongst a desk and speak through a tube to request a recorded title. The title would then play through a cylinder phonograph from a room located below, allowing the customer to listen to it through two ear horns at their private desk. At the time the mass production of records was still in its infancy and was very primitive. One of the first recording methods had live performers record their tracks onto a phonograph embodying up to ten tubes leading to blank cylinders within other phonographs. Prior to this, each record had to be individually produced. Nonetheless, even with this method artist had to re record their songs multiple times. In terms of audio fidelity, grampaphone discs were not superior to cylinder records. Up until the early 1900 s both cylinder and disc recordings were available. The value and significance of intelligence in law enforcement activities has been growing since the events of 9/11 when it became apparent that the world s most powerful nation was unable to protect its people from uneducated goat herders, who chose to carry out terrorist activities. One can spot claims that the CIA and other intelligence agencies knew about the upcoming terrorist attacks, they were unable to effectively coordinate their activities with the policeto apprehend the terrorists (Conser, 2014). The Madrid and London Metro bombings in 2008 and the 2015 2016 terrorist attacks in Europe (France, Brussels) again showed that police could only react to preplanned attacks and thus was rather inefficient and ineffective. Since terrorismbecomes a major threat, the need for police to have updated (or real time) intelligence information available on their computers to better react to the threats (Spindlove, 2015). What is more important, since the street level officers work among citizens in the community, with access to proper intelligence information, they can be the first to face, stop and frisk and apprehend terrorists or other criminals before they engage in crime. Therefore, the value and significance of intelligence in law enforcement activities will continue to grow in foreseeable future. 2. The main Neoclassical architectural style building is located on the eastern edge of Central Park in New York City, New York. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1986. It was founded in 1870 with a mission to collect, preserve, and display works of art. In 1866 a group of Americans gathered at a restaurant to celebrate the Fourth of July. After dinner, John Jay, a prominent lawyer gave a speech proposing that he and his compatriots decided to create a national institution and gallery of art. In the next four years, they convinced American civic leaders, art collectors, and philanthropists to support the project, and finally in 1870 the Metropolitan Museum of Artwas incorporated. During the 1870s the museum was housed in two different locations in New York City , first in a building at 681 Fifth Avenue and later at 128 West 14th Street. In 1880 the museum moved to its present location in Central Park on Fifth Avenue between 80th and 84th Streets. The museum moved to this land to make a permanent home for the collections. • 34. Suburban Realism In The Swimmer One of the primary aspects of literature that makes it multifaceted is its ability to reflect the attitudes, beliefs, values, and customs of a particular time period or society by focusing on issues central to these cultures. Thus, as civilizations have expanded globally, literature has also grown to accommodate and reflect upon their problems. Once suburban neighborhoods and an upper middle class began to rapidly emerge in the United States, American authors began to explore and uncover the problems faced among the populations of these areas. Consequently, pieces of literature, particularly short stories, began to fall within the aesthetic of Suburban Realism, which is defined as the fidelity to actuality of the customs, manners, and habits... How a place where one usually just sleeps and doesn t return until the next night, could be so special to someone? It does make one think, once stopped and thought about. To some, it means as much as a gym does to a basketball player or as much as a tree does to a monkey. But then there are also those who still think of their bedroom as just a place to sleep and prepare themselves. The fifth chapter, however, offers a light in a dark tunnel with the line of Seth. Amongst the line of Seth, men began to seek after God and call upon His name (cf. Gen. 4:26). Enoch, for example, would come to characterize Seth s line and contrast individuals like Lamech in Cain s line. Noah would also be a descendant of Seth and would be allowed by Godto continue the human race despite the flood. However, the righteousness contained within Seth s line would not persist for long. The issue is now to compare these and highlight the weaknesses and strengths of each country against the other as regards such institutions. As regards electoral systems, Frances majoritarian two round system is a more simple method, delivering the greater amount of seats to the main parties of the left and right over smaller parties. Although harming representation, this helps in the creation of stable governments. The PR List system of Germany theoretically ensures minority representation to a greater degree than the French system, while at the same time maintaining two main parties (representing the left and right, in broad terms). Coalitions though are still a common outcome, such as today s SPD and CDU /CSU government, and thus governments are not as strong as France. Representation may be greater, but stability is weaker. When the population of children started to go down, because the expenses were going up, the helots came in to attack (Like they did every year). The helots defeated them due to the military downsize. • 45. Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander Peoples A third consideration in regard with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is the meaning of sovereignty. The discourse on sovereignty is obscure and non reflexive. It situates itself somewhere between moral axiology, social ideology and political and legal authority. The link between sovereignty and politics within the public discourse often mask oppressive power relations between Indigenous and non Indigenous people (Prokhovnik, 2015). Furthermore, the mainstream political discourse undoubtedly takes sovereignty as though it really were an uncontested foundation , which erases the significance of the Indigenous as the first nations (Prokhovnik, 2015, p. 415). For the settlers, perhaps their self importance as imperialists was more valued than embracing new notions of nationalism (Ward, 2001). For them, the establishment of colonies represented the expression of the external power of sovereign European states, even if only possible as a result of conquest, and their colonies were considered sufficient justification for the imposition of sovereign power (Patton, 1996, p. 149). Unfortunately, this unresolved ambivalence about the colonisation of Australiahas also left the peoples of this country with an ambivalent identity (Connors, 2001). • 47. Social Determinants Of Health May Influence The Burden Of... 1. a. Social determinants of health may influence the burden of disease on global health in many ways. There are major differences in the leading causes of death between low income, middle income, and high income countries (Moss, 2015). These differences are the result of the varied level of wealth, access to healthcare and clean water, knowledge of health care needs, and the countries ability to provide adequate health care to their citizens. Therefore, certain diseases are more prevalent in poor countries versus wealthy countries (Moss, 2015). For example, HIV/AIDS, Malaria, and tuberculosis are major killers in low income countries. Moreover, some preventable diseases are also prevalent in the low income countries, such as lower respiratory infections, diarrheal disease, premature and low weight births, and neonatal infections (Moss, 2015). Infectious diseases remain the leading causes of death among the middle income countries. At older age, the leading causes of death changes to non communicable chronic diseases, such as heart disease, stroke, and cancer. This corresponds to the leading causes of death among high income countries (Moss, 2015). Therefore, high income countries spend a significant amount of their GDP on chronic non communicable diseases while low income countries spend a significant amount of their GDP on communicable diseases, such as HIV, Malaria, and Tuberculosis (Moss, 2015). b.
