Policies have changed since the shooting happened in Littleton, Colorado. Before Columbine the
primary goal of law enforcement officers before and during a shooting was to set up a perimeter
and await arrival of SWAT members (Erickson, 2001). This policy has changed in many states
including Pennsylvania where policehad been preparing for active shooters with local schools.
Police are not able to wait the twenty minutes to an hour for SWAT to arrive at a scene which is
why the state mandated that local police receive active shooting training (Coughlin, 2012). This
response and a brochure that the Department of Homeland Security came out with are allowing
schools a better chance of eliminating a shooter with less causalities and injuries. This brochure
goes into to profile of an active shooter, how to respond to an active shooter, how to respond when
law enforcement arrives, training staff for an active shooter, preparing for and managing an active
shooter situation, recognizing workplace violence, managing the consequences of an active shooter,
and lessons learned (DHS, 2008). Recommendations were made following the shooting to
implement a command center with personnel able to take command at the beginning of a crisis,

influenced the morals, rules and regulations of the colonies. Most of the colonies were established
based on Christian beliefs and values. There was great religious diversity; Massachusetts was
populated with pilgrims and puritans, the Quakers in Pennsylvania and Catholics in Maryland.
Each colony believed in their faith and expected everyone to follow their religion. Puritans believed
that they had been ordained by God to create a puritan society and did not believe in religious
tolerance. The Catholics on the other hand dominated Maryland and the Quakers dominated

Why Corporations Should Not Hire Military Veterans Military veterans have many characteristics that show good leadership and courage, which is what companies should be aspiring to have in their employees. Instead, many corporations are purposely not hiring military veterans; resulting in thousands becoming homeless. Corporations are discriminating against our soldiers and the government is not endeavoring to help these soldiers either. Companies automatically assume that vets suffer from mental illnesses, are irrational and violent, and are uneducated and incompetent. Our government needs to establish more programs that will benefit our soldiers such as: creating shelter homes; providing them with therapists to help them with newly developed mental disorders; and allowing them to gain stability by giving them more job opportunities. There are numerous reasons as to why corporations are choosing to not hire military veterans. There are two sets of reasons: one being the reasons that corporations tell the public and, two being what they truly mean but will not announce freely to the public.
