The Informative Role Of African Americans In The News Media
In the United States, the News media is one of the most powerful institutions in the country. It
serves the role as the informative arm of democracy, a vital function when the government depends
upon public participation. This informative role gives the news media tremendous power, but can
very often be negatively impacted by ulterior profit and political motives. Different Network s
portray the same story in different lights based upon their respective political leanings to garner
ratings and revenue. The impact of this ambiguity and manipulation of the truth on different
segments of the American public is profound, specifically in the news medias usage of racial
stereotypes and their subsequent adoption by the private consumers of this media.... Show more

In the times of slavery and later Jim Crow, the impact of racism on African Americans was clearly
seen, with generational bondage and segregation respectively. In today s day and age, the impact of
negative racial stereotypes on African Americans are no longer enumerated in law, but still just as
significant. One of the most important racial determinants of socioeconomic standing has been the
continuation of a system of pseudo segregation that keeps black populations separate from white
populations, (Williams, 177). Concepts such as ghettoization and redlining represent holdovers
from the former status quo of segregation that have been supported and justified by both personal
and news stereotyping. Blacks being forced, through economic and educational disadvantage, to
live in a certain area or being prevented from moving into specific neighborhoods cause self
perpetuating cycles of inequality that keep blacks separate and unequal from their white
counterparts. This can be clearly seen in the strong relationship that exists between a school being
predominantly black and concentrated poverty, and the fact that an intensely segregated African
America/and or Latino school is 14 times more likely to be a high poverty school than one that is
less than 10% black or Latino, (Williams, 179). Another significant indicator of the lower
socioeconomic status experienced by

New England Consumer Electronics Market
Tweeter etc. is a small, upscale New England retailer of consumer electronics that was founded
by Sandy Bloomberg in 1972. During that time, there were two major retailers in Boston, Tech Hi
fi and Lechmere. To avoid direct confrontation, Bloomberg focused on the student market and
emphasize a lot more on sophisticated tastes for higher quality stereo components. As time pass
by, Tweeter build up their reputation and the public consider the company as a retailer of high
quality, high end audio components and video equipment, with knowledgeable salespeople who
offered high levels of customer service . Shortly by 1979, Tweeter had expanded to six stores in
the Boston area and one in Rhode Island. The demand for high end stereo and video... Show more

Unlike other retailers in the area, Tweeter does not carry entry to low end equipment, therefore,
their price is not as competitive as others, which result in a loss in profit.
Problem:
In response to the profitability downturn, Tweeter began to carry more variety of products and
joined the Progressive Retailers Organization in 1988. Unfortunately, public s perception toward
Tweeter remained unchanged. Customers continued to view Tweeter as more specialized and more
expensive than Lechmere and the other New England retailers . In order to turn the profit around,
the Tweeter s management team came up with the new strategy on 1993 to restore price
credibility at Tweeter. The main emphasis in their new strategy is Automatic Price Protection ,
APP. The objective of APP is to make sure customers are receiving the best price on an given
product. In its typical form, if a consumer purchased a product at one store and later found it for
a lower price at another store, the consumer could return to the first store with proof of that
lower price and get reimbursed for the difference . Later on Tweeter took it upon itself to track
the local newspapers and send out rebates. If a consumer purchased an item at Tweeter and it was
advertised for less in a major local newspaper within 30 days, Tweeter automatically mailed that
consumer a check for the difference. Tweeter s shift in strategy was very effective and had a
positive effect on financial

Boston Marathon Bombing Speech Essay
In his speech at the Interfaith Service after the Boston Marathon bombings, President Obama
effectively used language to describe the tragedy that had occurred, reference people who were
affected by the events, and to encourage the nation to stand up and stay strong. This use of
language allowed him to capture the attention of the audience and clearly make his point known.
President Obama s use of language painted a picture of Boston, both before and after the
bombings, and brought forward emotions from those who heard his speech. Use of imagery was
essential in the President s speech, as it allowed him to describe Boston in a way that made the
entire country feel as though they were directly involved in the attack, even though the majority
were not involved at all. Phrases such as sunlight glistened off the statehouse dome and spring
was in bloom allowed those listening to or reading President Obama s speech to feel as though
they were there that morning and sense the peace that had been there before the bombings took
place. Another use of imagery, her red hair and her freckles and her ever eager willingness to
speak her mind allowed spectators to develop a picture in their minds of one of the victims. Being
able to picture the victims forged an emotional attachment that made everyone want to stand strong
for those who could not.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The overall tone was encouraging to the American population, while still being threatening to those
that caused the bombings. Had this speech been delivered in a different tone, the meaning could
have come across completely different. The tone that President Obama used was one of the major
reasons that the language used in this speech was so effective. Without the correct tone, the
meaning of the words would have been distorted from their original meaning to something that
could possibly have been completely

Is The Budget Has Outlived Its Usefulness On The 21st...
Introduction The purpose of this paper is to examine the question of whether the budget has
outlived its usefulness in the 21st century. Over the past 20 years, people within the academic and
business worlds have argued that it is time for companies to move away from traditional budgets to
a concept known as beyond budgeting (Sandalgaard Nikolaj Bukh, 2014: 409 410). Researchers and
business practitioners have argued that the traditional budgetprocess requires too much time, with
some estimating that traditional budgeting requires 20% of managementtime throughout the year to
complete (Neely, Bourne Adams, 2003: 22). Others have also argued that traditional budgeting is
flawed because it provides an incentive for managers to essentially lie about how much money
they project to spend or the revenue and profits they project to achieve in order to receive more
monies or to demonstrate reduced spending to corporate leaders (Hope Fraser, 2003: 108).
However, some researchers and practitioners have explained that the entire idea that the traditional
budgeting process is going to end in favor of the beyond budgeting concept is incorrect given that
most organizations continue to prepare and use traditional budgets(Jackson Starovic, 2004: 2). In
the discussion and examination that follows, a brief definition and description of the concept of
beyond budgeting is provided. Then, the criticism of the traditional budgeting process by the
proponents of the beyond

House Of Bernarda Alba

A whip and a mule for men can be seen as the reason for Angustias timid communications with
Pepe el Romano as seen in the extract. Moreover, Bernarda s ideals on social status are made
clear when Lorca has her reveal the reason for her sending away Enrique Humanes. This was
because His father was a farmhand , the effect of this being Martirio s assurances that she will
never marry. The uncertainties Bernarda s eldest daughter, Angustias, feels about love, and her
inexperience of this is revealed by her apprehensive questions and statement of I ought to be
happy but I m not . This naivety is emphasised by the all woman cast. The play opens with the
death of the house s sole male inhabitant which furthers this impression and creates an ironic
foreshadowing of the extreme conditions of siege which Bernarda forces upon her daughters. The
distance between Bernarda and her eldest daughter is made apparent by the short answers
Angustias confidences receive and the physical violence Bernarda directs at her when she strikes
her with her stick in Act one. This, combined with the large sum Angustias inherits from her
stepfather, intimates that she was favoured in his will because of some closer relationship; a
possibility that she, like the Servant, was sexually taken advantage of. This adds a greater emphasis
to the implication of hidden secrets held by the household. Later in the extract the blackness of the

The Duchess Of Malfi And The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
Revolutionary Heroines of 1623 and 2005: The Duchess of Malfi and Lisbeth Salander
John Webster s play The Duchess of Malfi observes Renaissance beliefs about women, as well as
the treatment of women, through the corrupt characters of Ferdinand and The Cardinal. As was
custom, the men are in control of their sister, The Duchess, because of their gender. Stieg Larsson s
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is set in twenty first century Sweden, but it shares the central
theme of men wanting to possess and control women. However, in both works the female leads, The
Duchess and Lisbeth Salander, are the heroines, as they possess the stereotypically masculine
qualities that their male competitors and oppressors seem to lack. Throughout Webster s play and
Larsson s novel, the women display solidarity, bravery, and assertiveness. Salander and the
Duchess live how they please, with no fear of retaliation from the patriarchy. In the face of death,
The Duchess courageously accepts her fate instead of begging for mercy, and when a victim or
witness of violence, Salander takes action to ensure that justice is served, rather than shrinking
away in fear. The Duchess and Lisbeth Salander are the most courageous... Show more content on

The widowed Duchess is in a unique situation for a female character in a Renaissance play: She

jealousy and contempt within her brothers. Ferdinand and The Cardinal do not want their sister to

staying in the family. The brothers selfishness and corruption create an intense need to control and
restrain their sister. However, despite the patriarchal society in which she lives, The Duchess is not

Market Regulations In Medieval Europe During The Middle Ages
As Europe grew and evolved during the Middle Ages, towns and institutions emerged, which
governed the everyday life and interactions of medieval people. Many characterize the 1,000 year
period as one of violence and chaos, but the Middle Ages was a time where the state valued and
regulated economics and trade. Medieval towns prospered economically as it regulated markets
within the town and relied heavily on trade; however, internal and external threats, including
famines, the plague, and economic declines, threatened established towns. As the population
increased in towns, markets appeared. Merchants and craftsmen and women created and sold items
to the townspeople. As a result, towns implemented regulations to ensure markets ran in accordance
to the state s desires. Furthermore, marketplace regulations were adapted and influenced overtime
by guilds, Islam, and the Black Death. First, the state controlled and monitored guilds in Byzantine
towns. These guilds consisted of merchants, craftsmen, and lawyers. However, every economic
action a member of the guild took was observed and regulated by an appointed city official. Guild
members had to follow rule regarding business conduct, or they... Show more content on

land belongs to them and is legally under their control. In the past, the Cheyennes were led by a
council of forty four chiefs. The Cheyenne s really valued harmony, that s why they didn t like to
wage wars, so every council member had to agree on a decision before action could be taken. This
is called consensus. Today, Cheyenne council members are elected like the president, but they still

Purchase As expected, the new vehicle would have a positive impression to customers. However,
in the long run, the car depreciates in value. An old and deteriorated car could give a negative

Subcontractor Resource Management Essay
Specialist contractors generally known as subcontractors perform the majority of the work on
commercial construction projects. They face significant challenges in allocating their resources
across multiple, concurrent projects (O Brien and Fischer 2000). Despite their central nature to
project performance, relatively little research has been performed to formally model their
operations. Without such modeling, there exists little basis from which to measure or improve
performance. This dissertation attempts to address the limited literature by providing a formal,
information model for subcontractorresource management. There are three main contributions:

need for representing and capturing the practice of resource allocation is apparent and imperative.
Unfortunately, existing literature is missing a way which can detailed describe the processes of
resource allocation. There is a pressing need to provide such a representation as a basis to improve
subcontractor resource management performance.

The capacity of the Dechaffers for the dry berries was also given as 1500 bbl/hr and once again
the implied and actual utilization will be 1.0. Switching to the Wet Berries, we see that there are
two Dechaffers that can each store up to 1500bbl/hr, which will add up to a capacity of 3000bbl/hr.
We can calculate the implied utilization of the wet berry Dechaffer by dividing the input rate
(1500bbl/hr) by the capacity (3000bbl/hr) and the actual utilization by dividing the Flow Rate
(600bbl/hr) by the capacity (3000bbl/hr). The Dryers set the standard for the wet berries because
they are the bottleneck of the operation. There are three dryers that can process 200bbl/hr, giving
us a total capacity of 600bbl/hr. The implied utilization is not very realistic because it takes the
1500bbl/hr input rate and divides it by the 600bbl/hr capacity. The actual utilization of a
bottleneck is always 1.0 because it is operating at maximum capacity. Lastly, there are three
separators that have a capacity of 400bbl/hr each, giving us a total of 1200bbl/hr. The implied
utilization will be discovered as 1.25 because you are taking the 1500bbl/hr input rate and
dividing it by 1200bbl/hr capacity. The actual utilization can be found by 600bbl/hr (wet berries)
plus 375bbl/hr (dry berries) and using them as your input rate. So you will divide the 975bbl/hr by
1200bbl/hr capacity and get .8125. 2. Enter your answer and supporting arguments for

Example Of Karma In Ramayana
Karma is whatever action you do has consequences whether they are good or bad. Karma is in
everyday life whether it be a robber a getting arrested for robbing a bank to for somebody
receiving money for helping an old lady with some task. Karma was seen wildly throughout the
book The Ramayana in each of the character in the book. In this paper we will examine how
karma played a role in each of these characters
We will start with the main character of the book Rama. Rama has many karma events that happens
throughout the book, one being that he followed the golden deer into the woods even thought
his brother Lakshmana told him not to and the result was that his wife was kidnapped. He was
not there to help her because he was following the golden deer ( pg ). Another example of karma in
Rama s life is when he killed, Vila, the brother of and at the time the monkey ruler because of this
Rama was able to have an army of monkey help him search for his wife ( pg ). A final example in
Rama s life is when
Another character that faces karma in the epic was Dasaratha. He was the emperor of Kosala
and the father of Rama. He faces karma when Kaikeyi is tricked by Kooni into reminding the
king of the two promises he made to her when she saved his life. She told the king the what she
wanted her two promises be and as a result Rama is not allowed to be king and his other son
Bharatha is made king. His son Rama is exiled from the kingdom and must live in the woods for
fourteen years ( pg ). This event would later lead to the death of Dasaratha because of the shock
for the loss of his son.
Sita is another example of a character who faces karma throughout this story. Sita is the wife of
Rama and she faces karma when she tells Lakshmana to disobey Rama s order for him to stay back
at the camp and guard Sita and as a result she is kidnapped by Ravana. ( pg. ). These actions also
lead to Rama having to spend time trying to find her and rescues her from Ravana. Rama s
brother faces karma within the book as well. One of Lakshmana s karma experiences is tied back to
Sita s experience in which he leaves her side and she is kidnapped by Ravana and the result of this
is that he feels guilty of his actions and

performing business and product categories, which included eight business units. Although the
divestiture would decrease Sara Lee s revenues, it was believed that concentrating their financial
and managerial resources on a smaller number of business units would be beneficial. Sara Lee

Using our measures, weights, and the importance of the weight, we found that the five industries
that Sara Lee occupies are fairly similar in attractiveness. The food retail industry is the most
attractive and the international refrigerated bread industry is the least attractive.
The food retail industry is the most attractive primarily because it has an extremely high market
size. This industry is benefiting from the economic downturn because less people are eating at
restaurants. Instead they are making more meals at home. Although this industry is benefiting from
the economic downturn, there is a high risk of uncertainty. This is because of the competitiveness
of the industry, economic factors, and emerging opportunities that the business unit will have to
face.
On the other side, the international refrigerated bread industry is the least attractive because of the
global economic downturn. The economic recession affected this company particularly hard. Spain
is the main country that supported this industry for refrigerated bread and got hit harder than other
countries. Spain is also the only country that is looking to continue the want for refrigerated bread,
whereas other countries are turning to fresh breads as its leading bread products causing the
projected growth rate to decrease significantly.
The business units represented in Sara Lee s portfolio are highly

Gustav Mahler was born in 1860 in the small town of Kalischt, Bohemia. He was a late romantic
era composer. He was one of the leading conductors of his generation. Mahler was a bridge between
the 19th century Austro German tradition and the modernism of the early 20th century. In 1897 he
was the director of the Vienna Court Opera. He stayed in Vienna for 10 years, but during that time
he got a lot of opposition from the Anti Semitic Press. His awesome productions and high
production standards gave him the name of Greatest of Opera Conductors. Composing was only
his part time job as living as a conductor was his full time. Most of his pieces are for large
orchestra forces, symphonic choruses, and operatic soloists.

He left his school in 1878 with a diploma but no silver medal for outstanding achievement. Gustav
went to the University of Vienna for a year studying litature and philosophy. He than went on to
becomes a piano teacher, while still composing. His first composition while including other
influences also had something else that some called Pure Mahler. His first performance was
delayed till 1901 so they could make a shortened version of it. Gustav was interested in German
Philosophy and got introduced to the works of Arthur Schopenhauer, Friedrich Nietzsche, Gustav
Fechner and Hermann Lotze. These thinkers influenced Gustav s music long after his student years.
In 1881 Mahler did his first full scale opera with a small but resourceful company. After his six
month engagement he returned to Vienna and worked as a part time chorus master. In 1883
Mahler started his first real job as a conductor but had a poor relationship with the orchestra but
despite that he made 5 new operas there and won over the press that earlier had insulted his
work. He then went on to the Royal Theater and after only a week was titled the theaters musical
and choral director. Despite what the name makes you think the guy in charge of the music at the

The Differences between Normative and Pathological Child Behavior:
Oppositional Defiant Disorder
DEFINING OPPOSITIONAL DEFIANT DISORDER Children diagnosed with oppositional
defiant disorder, ODD, are characterized as displaying symptoms of age inappropriate recurrent
pattern of stubborn, hostile, disobedient, and defiant disorders , usually appearing prior to the
child entering his eighth year of age (Mash Wolfe, 2013). The DSM also lists impulse control
disorders, substance abuse disorders, and anxiety and mood disorders as comorbid disorders that
children with ODD have a considerable risk of developing. However, the diagnosis of oppositional
defiant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The study compared rates of symptoms of oppositional defiant disorder between children referred to
behavior health clinics, and children who had not been referred. Symptoms studied included losing
temper, defying adult s requests, argues with adults, purposely annoys others, blames others, easily
annoyed, angry and resentful, and spiteful and vindictive (Keenan Wakschlag, 2004). Overall, the
study found that rates of oppositional defiant disorder symptoms were significantly higher in
referred than non referred preschoolers (Keenan Wakschlag, 2004). In other words, while only 4
8% of children not believed to have oppositional defiant disorder exhibited the symptoms in
question, a significant amount of children diagnosed with oppositional defiant disorder, ranging
from 30 73%, did exhibit the symptoms. These numbers are strong evidence supporting the theory
that oppositional defiant disorder is, in face, a legitimate psychological disorder, and is not merely
bad behavior.
COMORBIDITY
Oppositional defiant disorder, apart from being characterized by behaviors more severe than those
exhibited by children not diagnosed, is also correlated to an increased risk in several other
disorders. These disorders include impulse control disorders, substance abuse disorders, and mood
and anxiety disorders. A

Normal Stereotypes In Stargirl
Everyone is their own person. People change mostly due to fact that they want to be accepted.
Every once in a while youВґll find someone who is really themselves. In the book ВЁstargirlВЁ a
teenage girl goes to a new high school where everyone there conformed to one. Stargirl , whos

everyone! According to Mica High, she by far doesn t apply for the Normal stereotype.
Stargirl catches the eye of another student that goes to the high school as well with her odd
behaviors. Leo is one of the many normal kids at the school, who will soon acquire strong
feelings towards Stargirl. He has no idea what type of journey he is about to go through. Archie,

The Methods Of Advertising In The Advertising Industry
The advertising industry uses many techniques to grab the attention of customers in order to
promote products and services. Different products or services require different methods to reach the
preferred clientele. One method, SEO (Search Engine Optimization), is used by large companies to
record what kind of ads interest different profiles of people. Methods vary from large corporations,
down to the mom and pop gas stations. Products and services typically appeal to specific customers
and their problems, businesses know this and offer solutions to those needs. However, some
companies create needs in their consumers, usually through products that cause dependency or by
convincing impulse buyers that they can t live without the product. According to Statista, an online
statistics journal with more than 18,000 sources, America spends more money on advertisingthan
any other country in the world. The advertisement rate grows every year, as we discover new
social media outlets to distribute information. As companies grow and develop, they target
specific audiences by age, gender, location and more, based on data gathered from social media,
television ratings and other forms of responses like surveys and reviews. Advertising has been
around ever since there were products to be sold, or money to be made. An Irish journalist from
1952 wrote, Wise advertising will preserve the goodwill of former customers, keeping them loyal
to the brand (MacCormack, 138) . This rule is

John Adams
John Adams was born on October 30, 1735, in Massachusetts Bay. He was born in a well to do
family of five. He is the eldest son and was named after his father, John Adams. Young Adams was
able to receive a proper childhood education, as his father was a deacon of the Congregational
church, as well as a lieutenant of the local militia. Despite his busy schedule, his main interest and
occupation was farming.
At 1761, Adams father passed away due to the flu epidemic. His mother remarried at 1766, but

British soldiers who fired at mob of Boston citizen. As a result, five civilians were killed, including
Cripus Attucks. Upon the event, many political groups and citizens were unhappy. It was the
starting of an anti British fever. Paul Revere made an engraving that depicted captain Thomas
Preston gave the order to start firing at the defenseless crowd. To calm the situation down,
Governor Hutchinson, promised the people to imprison the captain and soldiers, and they would
also be trial upon their action. In the afternoon, the Sons of Liberty held a meeting at the Faneuil
Hall, demanding that all British should be driven out of Boston. No lawyer was brave enough to
take the case except John Adams and another young lawyer Josiah Quincy. Preston and his man
should be trial on September, but his men made a petition to the court that they wanted to be
trial together at one time. The petition was denied and on October 24, 1770, Preston was the
first to be trialed. This was the first case that was held longer than one day in Massachusetts.
Adams, leading the defense, had called for at least twenty two witnesses in one day and none of
them had heard Preston ordered his troops to start firing. On October 30, 1770, the juries had
dropped the charge on Preston. Soon, it was the soldiers trials. Witnesses said that the troops acted

Engine 6 Analysis
Most, if not all, pieces of railroad machinery have had various changes made from their original
form while in service. Engine 6, a 36 gauge 8 18 D 74 mogul built in October of 1891 by the
Burnham, Williams Co. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as construction number 12288 for the

been vital to the Midwest Central Railroad s operation since 1960, being used as one of the two

structure of deoxyribonucleic acid a substance that contains all hereditary information. A few
months after the historic statement in the pub came a careful publication of the work of two

Watson cut out of the cardboard four types of nucleotide models guanine (G), cytosine (C),
thymine (T) and adenine (A) and began to lay them on the table. He discovered that adenine
binds to thymine, and guanine to cytosine on the principle of key lock. It is in this way two
strands of DNA are connected together, that is opposite to thymine, one thread will always
contain adenine from the other, and nothing else. The two strands of the Watson Crick model are
complementary to each other, so that wherever an adenine appears on one strand, a thymine
occurs directly opposite from it in the other strand (Garland 219). Watson and Crick got the
Nobel Prize in1958. The discovery of the spatial structure of DNA revolutionized the world of
science and led to many new discoveries without which it is impossible to imagine not only
modern science, but also modern life as a whole. In 60th another important discovery was made the
genetic code. DNA contains information about everything that is inherited, including the linear
structure of each protein in the body. Proteins, like DNA, represent long molecular chains of
amino acids. There are 20 amino acids. Accordingly, it was unclear how the language of DNA,
consisting of a four letter alphabet, is translated into the language of proteins, where 20 letters . It
revealed that the combination of three nucleotides of DNA clearly

The Effect Of Temperature On Blood Pressure And Heart Rate
Teacher s Instruction:
Design a lab that will examine a factor that affects blood pressure and heart rate.
Research Question:
What is the effect of temperature on blood pressure and heart rate?
Introduction:
Blood transports nutrients, oxygen, carbon dioxide, hormones, antibodies, urea and heat through
our body. The heartis transports blood by pumping it through blood vessels.
Blood flows from areas of high pressure to areas of low pressure. The pressure of blood in the
circulatory system is a value called blood pressure (mmHg: millimeters of mercury ), which is
measured by two numbers: systolic pressure and diastolic pressure. The systolic number is the
pressure in the arteries when the heart beats (when the heart muscle contracts), while the diastolic
number is pressure in the arteries between heartbeats (when the heart muscle is resting between
beats and refilling with blood). The ideal blood pressure is 120/80 mmHg.
Heart rate on the other hand is the number of times (in one minute) that the heart beats or contracts.
A heart rate can be anywhere between 60 and 100 beats per minute.
This experiment will involve five individuals putting their left hand in different samples of water
of varying temperatures. Their blood pressure and heart rate will be recorded before the
experiment, and after each water trial, to determine the effect it has on both the blood pressure and
heart rate.

Politeness And Its Impact On The Early Nineteenth Century
As a result of the term politeness being mainly used as a verbal fixture in the eighteenth century, it
was frequently used in a vacuous manner resulting in its adding relatively little to both the general
notions of correctness and refinement (Stein van Ostade, 1994). However, during the early part of
the eighteenth century, there is significant evidence of the term politeness having a definite and
specific set of resonances. The importance of investigating the notion of politeness in the early
eighteenth century is that although the main idiom of politeness is seen to have generally been
cultivated in a number of important ways by numerous writers during the restoration decades, it has
been mainly crystallised during the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, politeness was generally used to help in evoking a
vision of culture and social life, which is considered to be appropriate to modern times. This vision
of politeness, linking cultural refinement and moral improvement, was epitomised in gentlemanly
and urbane conversations (Stein van Ostade, 1994). Politeness was found to be mainly a refined
condition of social interactions (Atkinson, 1999), while social politeness was found to be
paradigmatically conversational. Conversational politeness attempts to pursue verbal agreeableness
that is essentially captured in a characteristic vocabulary in the form of phrases and words, such as
soft, natural, easy and never tiresome (Stein van Ostade, 1994).Thus, although the actual origins of
the subject of politeness were mainly on the basis of social interactions, politeness eventually came
to take an essentially exemplary role for general conversations in written discourse. Polite texts
were deemed to be specifically conversational in nature. The actual pace of commenting on the
English language was remarkably quickened in the late seventeenth through to the eighteenth
century. Though a large number of language related texts were published during this period as a
result of advancements in printing (Kernan, 1989), there were new concerns with the notion of

Ethical Argument Against Euthanasia
Medical Ethics
Medical ethics is always seen by many as an unusual blend; one many always seem to question.
The fuse appeals to a range of different temperaments, to the philosopher, the doctor, and to the
man or woman of action. It tackles the big questions of the morality of killing and the
painstakingly difficult decisions having to be made by many on a daily basis. It also relates to
the ethical spectrum as well, when can a mentally ill person be treated against their will? Is it a
crime for any doctor to practice a form of euthanasia? Where better to start medical ethics, than with
the complex topic of euthanasia.
The main idea of euthanasia goes against the oldest and most famous moral instructions in religion,
Thou shalt not kill [Exodus 20:13]. To be technical, the practice of euthanasia is morally required
by the two main principles of medical practice: the respect for the patient s autonomy, and to
promote their best interests. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are two interpretations if point 1 . One method of interpretation is the bad company fallacy
or argumentum ad hominem, where a particular view is true or false, not because of the reasons in

The second more widely known view is that all views by the Nazis are immoral. Some Nazis
may hold views that do not relate directly, but they would not be seen as Nazi views . The Nazi
views being referred are their horrific actions of torture and senseless killing. The problem with this
view is however that the supporters of euthanasia are not supporters of the Nazis, and so this point
can be considered invalid. The point at issue is whether euthanasia in certain circumstances is moral
or immoral. All depends on the specific circumstances at hand and the best interests of the patient at

Welcome, friends. College basketball is back.
I would say it is better than ever, but that would be a lie. We are friends. Friends do not fib to each

College basketball is kind of like your friend from high school who never grew up. Our gender

How Does Nitrate Contamination Of Groundwater
Nitrate Contamination of Ground Water
The Earth s surface is covered by massive amounts of water, but only a small measure of it is safe
for consumption. With a very limited supply, we need to focus our energies on preserving its
quality and quantity. Nitrates pose a great threat to our precious groundwater. There are many ways
that groundwater can be contaminated, but most aren t nearly as detrimental as an increase in the
amount of nitrates within our groundwater.
How do nitrates get into the water? We can help you with this answer. Nitrates get into the
groundwater from a variety of sources: some involve pastoral farming, market gardening,
application of nitrogenous fertilizers, and industrial and sewage waste disposal. ... Show more
content on Helpwriting.net ...
We know that the results of these practices as well as many others accumulate underground rather
quickly and damage the quality of the water supply.
Contamination of groundwater is also affected by weather, soil types, and the depth of the aquifer. If
it is less than 100 feet to the water table, the vulnerability of contamination is increased. In the
Midwest, with a sandy to loamy soil, the groundwater will become more susceptible toward
nitrate contamination. In areas where the soil composition is more of a clay compound, no matter
if there is an over use of fertilizer, the vulnerability of the groundwater is greatly reduced. This is
the type of situation that occurs in places like southern Indiana where the soils drain very poorly.
Through the many factors that are involved, we, as a society, have gained a great amount of
knowledge on how to reduce the amount of nitrates in the water source.
A couple of the most widely recognized concerns of high nitrates in water is its cause of
methemoglobinemia, more commonly referred to as blue baby syndrome, and other blood
disorders. If we don t start fixing the problem now, the critical effects of dangerous nitrate levels in
the water supply will be around for decades, and become increasingly difficult to manage.
There are a variety of approaches to avoiding the utilization of inadequate techniques. Individuals
can test soils before applying fertilizers, improve storage of fertilizers, test well

Immigration Is The International Movement Of Personnel...
Immigration is the international movement of personnel into a destination country as to which they
do not possess citizenship. Usually they wish to reside permanently by taking up employment as
migrant workers or temporarily as foreign workers. On average, according to Immigration Watch
Canada about 250,000 immigrants have migrated to Canadaper year since 1991 . Not to mention,
this year Canada supposedly to took about 300,000 new immigrants. Immigrationis a significant
factor in the development of countries. Those who argue against immigration do not realize that
these immigrants benefit the country economically, socially and politically. In Canada, studies and
social trends suggest that the country can better promote its own immigration through observing
instances of increases in population, the workforce and providing multiculturalism.
In reference to immigration, it allows population to increase tremendously. Usually what tends to
happen is that, immigrants have larger families than Canadians, so when they arrive in Canada with
theses mass amounts of people it increases the amount of residents. Immigrants today make up 65%
of Canada s net annual population growth (conferenceboard.ca) Immigrants are crucial to sustaining
population in any country. This is the main reason why immigration is such a necessity. Canada is a
country with low birth rates, without immigrants our population would decrease. Like I mentioned
before in more modern relationships, such as in

The Negatives Of Fast Fashion
There are many large companies that we see every day, many fashion garments that we buy
monthly, weekly or daily, and many people cannot seem to deal with how we manage to get
clothing from India, China and Bangladesh and into our day to day lives.
While as a society we are too busy focusing on the negatives of fast fashion, we should begin to
view both sides of the argument, and start to focus on the simple positives of how we, Australians,
get our clothes. Instead of people believing that we are ruining children s lives and wreaking havoc
through third world countries, how about we realise the opportunities that we are creating in these
countries, the opportunities for children to earn a wage to support their families, mothers and ...

Sweatshops. A topical point of debate between many analysts and pessimists of the fast fashion
industry. A talking point that has many opinions by many people around the world changing where
and what they spend their money on, while others cannot resist the low prices and choose to ignore
the negative media towards the fast fashion industry. Now we must ask ourselves, how bad are
sweatshops? Who works in them? How much are they paid?
The wage question comes into most arguments, and as Australians our daily average is $17.70,
compared to Bangladesh, almost half of Australia s at $9.
Powell and Skarbek found that sweatshop wages exceed average income in between eight and ten
out of ten countries surveyed, depending on how many hours were worked. Working ten hour days
in the apparel industry lifts employees above (and often far above) the $2 per day threshold. And in
half of the countries it results in earning more than three times the national average! Says Powell,
who has written many books on sweatshops highlighting the positives and negatives in the industry.
In the villages close to sweatshops, girls were substantially less likely to get pregnant or be
married off (28% and 29% respectively, and this effect was strongest among 12 18 year olds) and
girls school enrolment rates were 38.6% higher says the Universities of Washington and Yale.
So how can sweatshops be viewed

World War 1 Chlorine Research Paper
Backtrack to April 22, 1915. Halfway around the world in Ypres, Belgium, German forces
surprise two French Colonial divisions by unleashing nearly 150 tons of pure fatal chlorine gas.
Because they had never been exposed to chemical warfare on a scale like this; The French forces
had no protection against this deadly toxin. This lack of preparation sent front line troops into a
panic. Nearly 6,000 troops were killed because of the deadly gas. These soldiers did not die
peacefully, as they choked and burned to death as if they were parasites. The Germans, who
bombarded No man s land and the front line trenches with the chlorinegas were equally as surprised
with the devastation the unbeatable gas left. Long story short, although German forces had a
major advantage with this toxic new weapon; they failed to come out of the Second Battle of
Ypres with a victory. Shortly after worldwide mass production of gas masks were being put into
effect for the war. This first use of chemical warfarechanged the entire... Show more content on

These Halite mines are very common, as there is a natural abundance to the element Chlorine.
The top three Chlorine producers in the world are China, India, and the United States of
America, in that order. Chlorine is used in everyday cleaning products like water purifiers, like
pools so common in the American backyard, and bleach. Chlorine is used in things like
swimming pools and bleach because of how powerful of an element it is. In pools it is used to
clean out any unnatural unnecessary objects in the water like algae. Its immense amount of
strength is why it is such an important element in bleach as like the pool, it kills nearly
everything. Nearly 20% of all Chlorine that is mined is used to create PVC, which is used in the
production of things like window frames, car interiors, water pipes, blood bags, electrical wiring,
and vinyl

an ongoing investigation to determine the cause of the accident on Tuesday, approximately at

to give out the names of the drivers at this time. Someone is being detained as a person of interest

She lit a candle on top of the apple pie, and they all sing Happy Birthday . Abigail and Sally were
sitting under the tree, suddenly a debate started Could it be the sun glare or the poor conditions of
the road might be the trigger? No one reported seeing a rabbit.
The apple cider s judges were busy set up their tables at the party. Grandpa and grandma rush over
to enter their jars.
Then the Police Chief and the City Mayor walked in. Stop right there, you can t enter the apple
cider contests. Abigail Peterson, you are under arrest. Your test results came out positive for
drinking under the influence while driving. It s my birthday, all my family is here. I don t drink that
stuff. Someone needs to go hunting for the hare. You sure consider going to a support group
meeting. Maybe the judge will take your actions in consideration. He might be easier on you,
being this is your first time. Grandpa grabs his gun, follow me, we re going to hunt down that
rabbit. Ladies, go to the police station and bail grandma

Heroes In Tough Alice
Children and adults alike decorate heroes with compliments such as how courageous they are, or
their bravery. Heroes both present day, historically, and fictionally are decorated with such things;
but I ask what if there s a hero presented without any of these heroic qualities ? Do you believe
they even qualify as a heroanymore? In this case, we will be using Alice, (derived from Tough
Alice ), because in the short storyshe was presented in, she needed the influence from her peers in
order to perform a heroic deed. Today s heroes compared to Alice differ in small, unseen actions,
such as influence, reasoning, and character. With today s heroes, many of them are influenced by
their past, their opinion, or even... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And example of a person s reasoning to be a hero is Martin Luther King Jr., where his reason
was derived from a series of experiences throughout his life. As a child, he was constantly
discriminated for his race for being of colored race. Everytime he would attempt to mingle with
white children, their parents would immediately draw them away from him, spitting out insults
such as: You don t want to contract whatever that child has. At times he would even be called
negro , just like the other black children of his age as well. This, as he was growing up, made
him realize that there were hundreds of thousands of other people who also have had similar
experiences as him. Friends of his would often tell him of their times they ve been discriminated;
it was such an important realization that he even discovered his own parents were being
discriminated as much as he was. For this reason, he joined and provided a great contribution to
the Civil Rights Movement, fighting for African American rights. Compared to Alice, though,
ever since she feasted her eyes on the Jabberwock as it appeared, had a reason to be a hero. The
Jabberwock was a creation of her own imagination; a creature that she claimed was the most
frightening creature alive. In the past, the Jabberwock dispatched of 2 other champions that

Summary Of The Fairy Forest In A Tale Of A Short Story
The forest of Quedayla, is located next to the swamp. The swamp is where the terrifying
monsters, by the fairies standards, are banished, where they will never have peace, while being
on high alert for the dangerous swamp creatures that lurk among them. One of the monsters in
the swamp is Fowley the witch, how is particularly more enraged at the fairy s than others, for
banishing her to the dark depths of the swamp. So, she devised a plan to turn their beautiful
home into a place to fear, just like they did to her. After, weeks of work Fowley made a tar like
substance, that would turn all the plant matter in its path to dead remains. Under the cloak of
night, she snuck to the outskirts of the fairy village, located at the heart of Quedayla. Where she
placed the tar like substance at the foot of an old oak tree and it started to decay. At a slower rate
than Fowley was hopping, but she had no time to fix it, because there are fairy guards patrolling
the border of the fairy village, to ensure everyone in the village stayed safe. The next day in the
fairy village, in the afternoon Lily went to the training field for the fairies guards where she
would find her friend Rosetta, after her morning training. Lily cheerfully said, Good afternoon
Rosetta! How was was your training? To a young fairy sitting on a wooden bench with a sword in
her hand. She replied with, It was the same as always. in a dingy tone. Rosetta, look on the bright
side, after all this you will be

  • 2. The Informative Role Of African Americans In The News Media In the United States, the News media is one of the most powerful institutions in the country. It serves the role as the informative arm of democracy, a vital function when the government depends upon public participation. This informative role gives the news media tremendous power, but can very often be negatively impacted by ulterior profit and political motives. Different Network s portray the same story in different lights based upon their respective political leanings to garner ratings and revenue. The impact of this ambiguity and manipulation of the truth on different segments of the American public is profound, specifically in the news medias usage of racial stereotypes and their subsequent adoption by the private consumers of this media.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the times of slavery and later Jim Crow, the impact of racism on African Americans was clearly seen, with generational bondage and segregation respectively. In today s day and age, the impact of negative racial stereotypes on African Americans are no longer enumerated in law, but still just as significant. One of the most important racial determinants of socioeconomic standing has been the continuation of a system of pseudo segregation that keeps black populations separate from white populations, (Williams, 177). Concepts such as ghettoization and redlining represent holdovers from the former status quo of segregation that have been supported and justified by both personal and news stereotyping. Blacks being forced, through economic and educational disadvantage, to live in a certain area or being prevented from moving into specific neighborhoods cause self perpetuating cycles of inequality that keep blacks separate and unequal from their white counterparts. This can be clearly seen in the strong relationship that exists between a school being predominantly black and concentrated poverty, and the fact that an intensely segregated African America/and or Latino school is 14 times more likely to be a high poverty school than one that is less than 10% black or Latino, (Williams, 179). Another significant indicator of the lower socioeconomic status experienced by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. New England Consumer Electronics Market Tweeter etc. is a small, upscale New England retailer of consumer electronics that was founded by Sandy Bloomberg in 1972. During that time, there were two major retailers in Boston, Tech Hi fi and Lechmere. To avoid direct confrontation, Bloomberg focused on the student market and emphasize a lot more on sophisticated tastes for higher quality stereo components. As time pass by, Tweeter build up their reputation and the public consider the company as a retailer of high quality, high end audio components and video equipment, with knowledgeable salespeople who offered high levels of customer service . Shortly by 1979, Tweeter had expanded to six stores in the Boston area and one in Rhode Island. The demand for high end stereo and video... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike other retailers in the area, Tweeter does not carry entry to low end equipment, therefore, their price is not as competitive as others, which result in a loss in profit. Problem: In response to the profitability downturn, Tweeter began to carry more variety of products and joined the Progressive Retailers Organization in 1988. Unfortunately, public s perception toward Tweeter remained unchanged. Customers continued to view Tweeter as more specialized and more expensive than Lechmere and the other New England retailers . In order to turn the profit around, the Tweeter s management team came up with the new strategy on 1993 to restore price credibility at Tweeter. The main emphasis in their new strategy is Automatic Price Protection , APP. The objective of APP is to make sure customers are receiving the best price on an given product. In its typical form, if a consumer purchased a product at one store and later found it for a lower price at another store, the consumer could return to the first store with proof of that lower price and get reimbursed for the difference . Later on Tweeter took it upon itself to track the local newspapers and send out rebates. If a consumer purchased an item at Tweeter and it was advertised for less in a major local newspaper within 30 days, Tweeter automatically mailed that consumer a check for the difference. Tweeter s shift in strategy was very effective and had a positive effect on financial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Boston Marathon Bombing Speech Essay In his speech at the Interfaith Service after the Boston Marathon bombings, President Obama effectively used language to describe the tragedy that had occurred, reference people who were affected by the events, and to encourage the nation to stand up and stay strong. This use of language allowed him to capture the attention of the audience and clearly make his point known. President Obama s use of language painted a picture of Boston, both before and after the bombings, and brought forward emotions from those who heard his speech. Use of imagery was essential in the President s speech, as it allowed him to describe Boston in a way that made the entire country feel as though they were directly involved in the attack, even though the majority were not involved at all. Phrases such as sunlight glistened off the statehouse dome and spring was in bloom allowed those listening to or reading President Obama s speech to feel as though they were there that morning and sense the peace that had been there before the bombings took place. Another use of imagery, her red hair and her freckles and her ever eager willingness to speak her mind allowed spectators to develop a picture in their minds of one of the victims. Being able to picture the victims forged an emotional attachment that made everyone want to stand strong for those who could not.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The overall tone was encouraging to the American population, while still being threatening to those that caused the bombings. Had this speech been delivered in a different tone, the meaning could have come across completely different. • 5. Is The Budget Has Outlived Its Usefulness On The 21st... Introduction The purpose of this paper is to examine the question of whether the budget has outlived its usefulness in the 21st century. Over the past 20 years, people within the academic and business worlds have argued that it is time for companies to move away from traditional budgets to a concept known as beyond budgeting (Sandalgaard Nikolaj Bukh, 2014: 409 410). Researchers and business practitioners have argued that the traditional budgetprocess requires too much time, with some estimating that traditional budgeting requires 20% of managementtime throughout the year to complete (Neely, Bourne Adams, 2003: 22). Others have also argued that traditional budgeting is flawed because it provides an incentive for managers to essentially lie about how much money they project to spend or the revenue and profits they project to achieve in order to receive more monies or to demonstrate reduced spending to corporate leaders (Hope Fraser, 2003: 108). However, some researchers and practitioners have explained that the entire idea that the traditional budgeting process is going to end in favor of the beyond budgeting concept is incorrect given that most organizations continue to prepare and use traditional budgets(Jackson Starovic, 2004: 2). In the discussion and examination that follows, a brief definition and description of the concept of beyond budgeting is provided. Then, the criticism of the traditional budgeting process by the proponents of the beyond ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And when you marry, less still. Speak if he speaks, and look at him when he looks at you. Do that and you won t have disagreements. ANGUSTIAS: Mother, I think he s hiding things from me. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A whip and a mule for men can be seen as the reason for Angustias timid communications with Pepe el Romano as seen in the extract. Moreover, Bernarda s ideals on social status are made clear when Lorca has her reveal the reason for her sending away Enrique Humanes. This was because His father was a farmhand , the effect of this being Martirio s assurances that she will never marry. The uncertainties Bernarda s eldest daughter, Angustias, feels about love, and her inexperience of this is revealed by her apprehensive questions and statement of I ought to be happy but I m not . This naivety is emphasised by the all woman cast. The play opens with the death of the house s sole male inhabitant which furthers this impression and creates an ironic foreshadowing of the extreme conditions of siege which Bernarda forces upon her daughters. The distance between Bernarda and her eldest daughter is made apparent by the short answers Angustias confidences receive and the physical violence Bernarda directs at her when she strikes her with her stick in Act one. This, combined with the large sum Angustias inherits from her stepfather, intimates that she was favoured in his will because of some closer relationship; a possibility that she, like the Servant, was sexually taken advantage of. This adds a greater emphasis to the implication of hidden secrets held by the household. Later in the extract the blackness of the sky outside, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Duchess Of Malfi And The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Revolutionary Heroines of 1623 and 2005: The Duchess of Malfi and Lisbeth Salander John Webster s play The Duchess of Malfi observes Renaissance beliefs about women, as well as the treatment of women, through the corrupt characters of Ferdinand and The Cardinal. As was custom, the men are in control of their sister, The Duchess, because of their gender. Stieg Larsson s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is set in twenty first century Sweden, but it shares the central theme of men wanting to possess and control women. However, in both works the female leads, The Duchess and Lisbeth Salander, are the heroines, as they possess the stereotypically masculine qualities that their male competitors and oppressors seem to lack. Throughout Webster s play and Larsson s novel, the women display solidarity, bravery, and assertiveness. Salander and the Duchess live how they please, with no fear of retaliation from the patriarchy. In the face of death, The Duchess courageously accepts her fate instead of begging for mercy, and when a victim or witness of violence, Salander takes action to ensure that justice is served, rather than shrinking away in fear. • 8. Market Regulations In Medieval Europe During The Middle Ages As Europe grew and evolved during the Middle Ages, towns and institutions emerged, which governed the everyday life and interactions of medieval people. Many characterize the 1,000 year period as one of violence and chaos, but the Middle Ages was a time where the state valued and regulated economics and trade. Medieval towns prospered economically as it regulated markets within the town and relied heavily on trade; however, internal and external threats, including famines, the plague, and economic declines, threatened established towns. As the population increased in towns, markets appeared. Merchants and craftsmen and women created and sold items to the townspeople. As a result, towns implemented regulations to ensure markets ran in accordance to the state s desires. Furthermore, marketplace regulations were adapted and influenced overtime by guilds, Islam, and the Black Death. First, the state controlled and monitored guilds in Byzantine towns. These guilds consisted of merchants, craftsmen, and lawyers. However, every economic action a member of the guild took was observed and regulated by an appointed city official. They face significant challenges in allocating their resources across multiple, concurrent projects (O Brien and Fischer 2000). Despite their central nature to project performance, relatively little research has been performed to formally model their operations. Without such modeling, there exists little basis from which to measure or improve performance. This dissertation attempts to address the limited literature by providing a formal, information model for subcontractorresource management. Unfortunately, existing literature is missing a way which can detailed describe the processes of resource allocation. There is a pressing need to provide such a representation as a basis to improve subcontractor resource management performance. 1.2 Case Study: Ellis Air Subcontractor A case study conducted as part of this research is briefly previewed . Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The capacity of the Dechaffers for the dry berries was also given as 1500 bbl/hr and once again the implied and actual utilization will be 1.0. Switching to the Wet Berries, we see that there are two Dechaffers that can each store up to 1500bbl/hr, which will add up to a capacity of 3000bbl/hr. We can calculate the implied utilization of the wet berry Dechaffer by dividing the input rate (1500bbl/hr) by the capacity (3000bbl/hr) and the actual utilization by dividing the Flow Rate (600bbl/hr) by the capacity (3000bbl/hr). The Dryers set the standard for the wet berries because they are the bottleneck of the operation. There are three dryers that can process 200bbl/hr, giving us a total capacity of 600bbl/hr. The implied utilization is not very realistic because it takes the 1500bbl/hr input rate and divides it by the 600bbl/hr capacity. The actual utilization of a bottleneck is always 1.0 because it is operating at maximum capacity. Lastly, there are three separators that have a capacity of 400bbl/hr each, giving us a total of 1200bbl/hr. The implied utilization will be discovered as 1.25 because you are taking the 1500bbl/hr input rate and dividing it by 1200bbl/hr capacity. The actual utilization can be found by 600bbl/hr (wet berries) plus 375bbl/hr (dry berries) and using them as your input rate. So you will divide the 975bbl/hr by 1200bbl/hr capacity and get .8125. 2. Enter your answer and supporting arguments for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although this industry is benefiting from the economic downturn, there is a high risk of uncertainty. This is because of the competitiveness of the industry, economic factors, and emerging opportunities that the business unit will have to face. • 31. The Effect Of Temperature On Blood Pressure And Heart Rate Teacher s Instruction: Design a lab that will examine a factor that affects blood pressure and heart rate. Research Question: What is the effect of temperature on blood pressure and heart rate? Introduction: Blood transports nutrients, oxygen, carbon dioxide, hormones, antibodies, urea and heat through our body. The heartis transports blood by pumping it through blood vessels. Blood flows from areas of high pressure to areas of low pressure. The pressure of blood in the circulatory system is a value called blood pressure (mmHg: millimeters of mercury ), which is measured by two numbers: systolic pressure and diastolic pressure. The systolic number is the pressure in the arteries when the heart beats (when the heart muscle contracts), while the diastolic number is pressure in the arteries between heartbeats (when the heart muscle is resting between beats and refilling with blood). The ideal blood pressure is 120/80 mmHg. Heart rate on the other hand is the number of times (in one minute) that the heart beats or contracts. A heart rate can be anywhere between 60 and 100 beats per minute. This experiment will involve five individuals putting their left hand in different samples of water of varying temperatures. However, during the early part of the eighteenth century, there is significant evidence of the term politeness having a definite and specific set of resonances. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, politeness was generally used to help in evoking a vision of culture and social life, which is considered to be appropriate to modern times. This vision of politeness, linking cultural refinement and moral improvement, was epitomised in gentlemanly and urbane conversations (Stein van Ostade, 1994). Politeness was found to be mainly a refined condition of social interactions (Atkinson, 1999), while social politeness was found to be paradigmatically conversational. Conversational politeness attempts to pursue verbal agreeableness that is essentially captured in a characteristic vocabulary in the form of phrases and words, such as soft, natural, easy and never tiresome (Stein van Ostade, 1994).Thus, although the actual origins of the subject of politeness were mainly on the basis of social interactions, politeness eventually came to take an essentially exemplary role for general conversations in written discourse. Polite texts were deemed to be specifically conversational in nature. • 36. Ethical Argument Against Euthanasia Medical Ethics Medical ethics is always seen by many as an unusual blend; one many always seem to question. The fuse appeals to a range of different temperaments, to the philosopher, the doctor, and to the man or woman of action. It tackles the big questions of the morality of killing and the painstakingly difficult decisions having to be made by many on a daily basis. It also relates to the ethical spectrum as well, when can a mentally ill person be treated against their will? Is it a crime for any doctor to practice a form of euthanasia? Where better to start medical ethics, than with the complex topic of euthanasia. The main idea of euthanasia goes against the oldest and most famous moral instructions in religion, Thou shalt not kill [Exodus 20:13]. To be technical, the practice of euthanasia is morally required by the two main principles of medical practice: the respect for the patient s autonomy, and to promote their best interests. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are two interpretations if point 1 . One method of interpretation is the bad company fallacy or argumentum ad hominem, where a particular view is true or false, not because of the reasons in favour or against the view, but by virtue of the fact that a person holds that view. The second more widely known view is that all views by the Nazis are immoral. Some Nazis may hold views that do not relate directly, but they would not be seen as Nazi views . The Nazi views being referred are their horrific actions of torture and senseless killing. The problem with this view is however that the supporters of euthanasia are not supporters of the Nazis, and so this point can be considered invalid. The point at issue is whether euthanasia in certain circumstances is moral or immoral. All depends on the specific circumstances at hand and the best interests of the patient at ... • 37. Persuasive Speech About Friendship Previously dim lights now shining with the force of a thousand suns. A rhythmic beating of a ball bouncing off the hardwood floor. Sneakers squeaking off in the distance. Grown men yelling obscenities at the free teenage labor. Fights being had on Twitter over children from a distance. A government agency looming, not looking to govern, yet things might change forever nonetheless. Welcome, friends. College basketball is back. I would say it is better than ever, but that would be a lie. We are friends. Friends do not fib to each other. They tell the truth, even if it hurts, while hoping whatever negatives come forth do not infringe on a lifelong friendship. College basketball is kind of like your friend from high school who never grew up. Our gender binary friend (using he for the sake of keeping it simple the rest of the way) clings to a glory most stopped long ago caring to relive. He s stomping his feet, drinking a Natty Ice, and talking about that time most of us want to forget. We have mostly moved on, yet this is his every single day. We accept him, warts (and shitty beer taste) and all. For better or worse, college basketball has as much to do about its tradition as it does its on the court product. Over the years, to the point of nausea if we are to be honest, I have written about what the sport brings to the table. If we were to do some worthless power rankings, the actual quality of the games would be listed somewhere below fan ownership, pageantry, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. How Does Nitrate Contamination Of Groundwater Nitrate Contamination of Ground Water The Earth s surface is covered by massive amounts of water, but only a small measure of it is safe for consumption. With a very limited supply, we need to focus our energies on preserving its quality and quantity. Nitrates pose a great threat to our precious groundwater. There are many ways that groundwater can be contaminated, but most aren t nearly as detrimental as an increase in the amount of nitrates within our groundwater. How do nitrates get into the water? We can help you with this answer. Nitrates get into the groundwater from a variety of sources: some involve pastoral farming, market gardening, application of nitrogenous fertilizers, and industrial and sewage waste disposal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We know that the results of these practices as well as many others accumulate underground rather quickly and damage the quality of the water supply. Contamination of groundwater is also affected by weather, soil types, and the depth of the aquifer. If it is less than 100 feet to the water table, the vulnerability of contamination is increased. In the Midwest, with a sandy to loamy soil, the groundwater will become more susceptible toward nitrate contamination. In areas where the soil composition is more of a clay compound, no matter if there is an over use of fertilizer, the vulnerability of the groundwater is greatly reduced. This is the type of situation that occurs in places like southern Indiana where the soils drain very poorly. Through the many factors that are involved, we, as a society, have gained a great amount of knowledge on how to reduce the amount of nitrates in the water source. A couple of the most widely recognized concerns of high nitrates in water is its cause of methemoglobinemia, more commonly referred to as blue baby syndrome, and other blood disorders. If we don t start fixing the problem now, the critical effects of dangerous nitrate levels in the water supply will be around for decades, and become increasingly difficult to manage. There are a variety of approaches to avoiding the utilization of inadequate techniques. Individuals can test soils before applying fertilizers, improve storage of fertilizers, test well ... • 39. Immigration Is The International Movement Of Personnel... Immigration is the international movement of personnel into a destination country as to which they do not possess citizenship. Usually they wish to reside permanently by taking up employment as migrant workers or temporarily as foreign workers. On average, according to Immigration Watch Canada about 250,000 immigrants have migrated to Canadaper year since 1991 . Not to mention, this year Canada supposedly to took about 300,000 new immigrants. Immigrationis a significant factor in the development of countries. Those who argue against immigration do not realize that these immigrants benefit the country economically, socially and politically. In Canada, studies and social trends suggest that the country can better promote its own immigration through observing instances of increases in population, the workforce and providing multiculturalism. In reference to immigration, it allows population to increase tremendously. Usually what tends to happen is that, immigrants have larger families than Canadians, so when they arrive in Canada with theses mass amounts of people it increases the amount of residents. Immigrants today make up 65% of Canada s net annual population growth (conferenceboard.ca) Immigrants are crucial to sustaining population in any country. This is the main reason why immigration is such a necessity. Canada is a country with low birth rates, without immigrants our population would decrease. The Negatives Of Fast Fashion There are many large companies that we see every day, many fashion garments that we buy monthly, weekly or daily, and many people cannot seem to deal with how we manage to get clothing from India, China and Bangladesh and into our day to day lives. While as a society we are too busy focusing on the negatives of fast fashion, we should begin to view both sides of the argument, and start to focus on the simple positives of how we, Australians, get our clothes. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sweatshops. A topical point of debate between many analysts and pessimists of the fast fashion industry. A talking point that has many opinions by many people around the world changing where and what they spend their money on, while others cannot resist the low prices and choose to ignore the negative media towards the fast fashion industry. Now we must ask ourselves, how bad are sweatshops? Who works in them? How much are they paid? The wage question comes into most arguments, and as Australians our daily average is $17.70, compared to Bangladesh, almost half of Australia s at $9. Powell and Skarbek found that sweatshop wages exceed average income in between eight and ten out of ten countries surveyed, depending on how many hours were worked. Working ten hour days in the apparel industry lifts employees above (and often far above) the $2 per day threshold. And in half of the countries it results in earning more than three times the national average! Says Powell, who has written many books on sweatshops highlighting the positives and negatives in the industry. In the villages close to sweatshops, girls were substantially less likely to get pregnant or be married off (28% and 29% respectively, and this effect was strongest among 12 18 year olds) and girls school enrolment rates were 38.6% higher says the Universities of Washington and Yale. Halfway around the world in Ypres, Belgium, German forces surprise two French Colonial divisions by unleashing nearly 150 tons of pure fatal chlorine gas. Because they had never been exposed to chemical warfare on a scale like this; The French forces had no protection against this deadly toxin. This lack of preparation sent front line troops into a panic. Nearly 6,000 troops were killed because of the deadly gas. These soldiers did not die peacefully, as they choked and burned to death as if they were parasites. The Germans, who bombarded No man s land and the front line trenches with the chlorinegas were equally as surprised with the devastation the unbeatable gas left. Long story short, although German forces had a major advantage with this toxic new weapon; they failed to come out of the Second Battle of Ypres with a victory. Everytime he would attempt to mingle with white children, their parents would immediately draw them away from him, spitting out insults such as: You don t want to contract whatever that child has. At times he would even be called negro , just like the other black children of his age as well. This, as he was growing up, made him realize that there were hundreds of thousands of other people who also have had similar experiences as him. Friends of his would often tell him of their times they ve been discriminated; it was such an important realization that he even discovered his own parents were being discriminated as much as he was. For this reason, he joined and provided a great contribution to the Civil Rights Movement, fighting for African American rights.
