Olaudah Equiano was kidnapped and sold into slavery at the age of eleven. Throughout his
autobiography entitled The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano , Equiano
recounts his fear throughout his journey of an enslaved man. This story describes the repulsive
side of slavery through the Middle Passage. Towards the beginning of the story, the author
discusses the experience of arriving on the ship that would take him to the Americas: I was
immediately handled, and tossed up to see if I were sound, by some of the crew (Equiano 521).
This gives insight into the cruel treatment of the colored by the whites. Men were examined and
picked apart, according to their appearance; they were judged physically on their ability to do

Wilfred Owen and Stevie Smith on Death
Death, especially that of loved ones: it can be a sensitive topic for anyone. The main connotation
for the dead is that although not all circumstances can be revealed, the reasons behind their deaths
can eventually be assumed by the living. And while that may be true in the physical sense as the
dead cannot physically talk about their own deaths, two major British poets tend to disagree with
that belief. In their works, both poets Wilfred Owen and Stevie Smith believe that the dead have
more knowledge on the cause of their condition than do the living.
One way Wilfred Owen and Stevie Smith present their beliefs on this issue is by presenting the
public s thoughts on said person after their death. And while the public may be sympathetic at
times, often they are not in the case of Owen; and in the case of Smith, those who are sympathetic
tend to not have a good sense as to what the circumstances were leading up to this person s death.
Overall, the public tends to be ignorant on this topic.
Citing the public s opinions on death is evident in the case of Wilfred Owen s poetry, in both direct
and indirect form. The more indirect approach is in his poem Disabled, although the main
character in question is actually alive. However, the same scenario applies as this character is a
permanently disabled (and depressed) veteran; not to mention Owen (a soldier himself) wrote this
in the final year

In society, we see that women and minorities are negatively biased. For women, people are
biased against them because people think that women cannot do a job that is considered a
man`s job, or they aren`t strong enough to do specific tasks. Women are judged when they are
playing sports like soccer because reporters would ask them how is it like playing with other girls?
It s as their almost saying, Are you ok with girls that might be lesbian? There is also a bias for
minorities as well because of there is a society filled with the same raceor gender, and then people
from all over the world start to accumulate, some people might fear that their jobs are at stake
because the minority are trying to assimilate to society and are trying to find jobs that are worthy
for them to succeed in. Even though for minorities, you see them areas of work, they are starting to
expand their horizon and make a name for themselves not just limited to specific jobs. Letting this
go entirely probably won`t happen but if society learns to corporate with different cultures and
backgrounds, they are small steps to be made but society has to start somewhere.
The idea that I will be focusing on is sports and how the industry has the power to dictate who
will likely win in the sport based on the culture of the specific game. Even though sports have
come a long way from how it was observed in the past, the players who are in a higher class than

Hughes makes this evident in the poem. As I learn from you, I guess you learn from me although
you re older and white and somewhat more free. . While it is true that there has been immense
change in the civil rights and liberties, there still needs to be more change. Now, its oppression that

I think if we all understood the same things the same way we would lose our imagination.
Imagination is what I feel links me to the not yet understood; I can only conclude that is why there
are vast differences and yet striking similarities to myths throughout the world.
What is the relationship between belief, knowledge, mythology, and religion? Where do mythology
and religion intersect? Where do they diverge? Think about the function of myth and religion in
helping human beings cope with change, suffering, loss, and death.
I think the intersection of religion and mythology is not really an intersection at all, more a parallel
with variances, not having read a lot of mythology yet I can only opine that since the bible has
described divine powers and miracles happening at the will of GOD and later JESUS, that much
mythology has similarities. Just as in the Bible stories are told to teach through identifiable
