Iowa s Yamato Attacks
The US Battleship Iowa could fire a 2700 pound armor piercing artillery shell twenty three miles.
The Japanese Battleship Yamato could fire eighteen inch shells that weighed as much as a
Toyota twenty five miles, although not as accurate as the Iowa. The Iowa could go 32.5 knots,
or 37.4 miles per hour. The Yamato could travel 27 knots, or 31 miles per hour. These were two
of the greatest battleships of World War II. Although the greatest and most powerful ship ever
built at the time, the Yamato did not survive the war. She and her sister ship, the Musashi were
sunk by torpedoes and bombs from carrier based aircraft. The Iowa did survive, and in fact an
entire fleet of ships are called Iowa Class ships based on the Iowa s design. These... Show more

This will be what the government hopes is a new battleship. It is the most technologically
advanced ship ever built. It is expected to be run by computers and require only nineteen sailors
per shift to man the bridge. Everything from the valves on the showers to the turrets for the
guns will be automated. And unlike the crew from the Iowa class ships, the sailors onboard the
new modernized battleship will have many creature comforts including libraries and lounges.
The smallest spaces for the lowest ranks will only have four people per room and bathroom,
which is an upgrade from the Iowa class ships.( Inside The Zumwalt Destroyer ) What is the
coolest thing about the Zumwalt is that is shows up on radar as a small fishing vessel, not the
mighty battleship that it is at 610 feet. It has many of the features talked about previously in this
paper including a helipad for two helicopters, but unfortunately cannot accommodate an Osprey. If
it is ever completed the Zumwalt will be armed with two long range guns that fire guided artillery
shells up to 72 miles, two smaller guns to protect it from things that may come too close, and 80
different missile launch points. Another cool thing is that the Navy is also thinking about putting a
futuristic rail gun and lasers on it too. Current US Navy tests have concluded the railgun will most
likely have a range of over 100 miles.( The Most Technologically Advanced Warship Ever Built )

Tackling Environmental Pollution with Green Taxes
Introduction Green taxes were introduced objectively to tackle environment pollutions. According
to (Fullerton, Leicester, Smith, 2008), taxes on things such as Landfill, industrial energy use (the
climate change levy), aggregate levy, motor fuel differentiation, vehicle exercise duty differentiation
and central London congestion charge had either been introduced or reformed in the past 20 years
to tackle environmental pollution. These taxes are called Green Taxes or Environmental Taxes.
Global warming has brought a big concern on environmental issues in many countries, including
U.K. Different studies have suggested the need for swift and urgent actions to alleviate the possible
costs of climate change. Introducing taxes so called environmental taxes, changes trade permits and
other economic measures might play an important role to achieve cost effective control of
greenhouse gas emissions (Stern, 2007)
Figures from Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows that U.K government collected
ВЈ41.4billions from environmental taxes in the year 2010 (Office for National Statistics, 2011),
rising up to 4.8% in comparison to 2009. This implies that environmental tax revenues have
increased exponentially year on year basis, causing doubts to consumers mind on two aspects. (a)
Do environmental taxes benefit the government or consumers?. (b) Are there alternatives to
environmental taxes?. In answering the two questions, this report will review the literature of

Literary Devices In Norton Juster s The Phantom Tollbooth
Norton Juster s book, The Phantom Tollbooth successfully used different types of literary
devices to introduce the main theme of the novel which was the importance of education. Juster
told the story of a boy named Milo who was described as, ...a boy... who didn t know what to do
with himself not just sometimes, but always (1961, p. 9). Milo was very indecisive and overall,
he leads a pretty boring and uneventful life. However, all of that changed when he came home
from school one day and noticed a mysterious tollbooth in his bedroom. The tollbooth made him
start to realize the value of education and the importance of enjoying what was going on in his day
to day life. The literary devicesJuster chose to use in his writing increased the quality of his work
and they also helped allow him to engage his readers in what they were reading more. Juster uses a
wide variety of different types of literary devices throughout the entire story but three of the most
common are irony, puns, and allegory. One of the most ironic moments in the book is when Milo,
Tock, and Humbug enter the Valley of Sound on their way to Digitopolis. From the time they
entered the valley it is obvious that something was missing. Juster wrote, at first it was difficult to
tell just what had changed it all looked the same and it all smelled the same but for some reason,
nothing sounded the same (1961, p. 144). By making the Valley of Sound of all places completely
silent in the book, readers become more

Charlotte Bronte Research Paper
The nineteenth century was the beginning of the age of exploration, the age of the Renaissance,
the age of discovery etc. Considered to be one of the most extraordinary writers of her time,
Charlotte Bronte was born the 21 April 1816 in Yorkshire, England. Before the novel Jane Eyre
Bronte worked as a teacher and governess, then after ,she collaborated on a book with her two

Office Apparel Research Paper
The combination of Women s fashion and proper office apparel offers a unique challenge to any
fashion designer; and the fashion trend for Spring 2009 is no exception. For Spring 2009 the
fashion industry offers fabrics that are sheer, soft and flowing and full of color. Platform heels are
back as well as cardigans. If you are looking to build your office wardrobe, here are five of the
hottest trends for Spring 2009 s appropriate office apparel. And the nice thing is, they can be
bought at Walmart, or any other store of your choice. 1. Use a scarf Since sheer is in, for Spring
2009, and you of course wouldn t consider wearing a sheer blouse to work; wear a scarf. A soft

If you do much walking around in your office, or a lot of standing, you might be more
comfortable in flat Mary Jane s. These shoes are quite stylish, and very feminine. 3. Handbag
/purse A lady s handbag or purse should be of the same colorand texture as her shoes. It adds a
touch of professionalism, and a sense of being well put together when shoes and purse or handbag
match. 4. Cardigans Spring 2009 has cardigans back with a vengeance, and this year they have Вѕ
sleeves. They are accented with large buttons. They can be worn buttoned up (not the top
button) as a top, or they can be worn opened, with a matching camisole, depending on your attire
for the day. 5. Pants Fabric choices for Spring 2009 are soft and flowing, and that goes for slacks
as well. A nice cotton blend is a good choice, and will be comfortable when the days get warmer.
If your boss or supervisor doesn t mind, cropped pants are very stylish this spring, and look very
nice and professional. I have listed here a couple of websites that I have found to be very helpful in
helping women put these fabrics and accessories together, and making a nice office appropriate
attire. http://fashion about.com/od/whattowear/a/weartowork.htm,

Quinceanera
Quinceanera It is customary for all Latin American cultures to celebrate a coming of age party
for their daughters called a quinceanera. Parents commemorate their beloved daughter s transition
from being a little girl to becoming a fifteen year old young lady by inviting family and friends
to join in this huge event. A modern day young lady is celebrated with a ceremony, grand party
with extravagant decorations, exquisite food, memorable toasts form the godparents, and usually
wrapped up with a funky dance. Every little girl awaits the day when she will be treated and
given the attention of a princess for a day. It was my pleasure to attend my cousin Daira s
quinceanera, and witness my first quinceanera in Mexico. It was a Saturday... Show more content on

As I looked up I noticed a yellow gold iron gate that wrapped around the second floor where
additional seating was available. The stage was very small however, with only enough room for
one white and turquois flower arrangement on each side of the pulpit (the only decoration
pertaining to the party), the pastor, and a projection screen that was placed behind the pastor,
which was used to display the words to the songs. The musicians were on the left side in between
the stage and the pews, all the men were different ages. A middle aged man who seemed to be
the leader was the keyboardist and singer, the base player was a young teenage boy who sat on
the first bench facing the keyboardist, the guitarist was an older man who sat in his wheelchair
also facing the keyboardist, and the drummer, another middle aged man, who had his own little
tower upstairs where he faced the challenge of keeping up with the tempo without being able to
see the leader. Because there were only a few guests present the ceremony was taking longer to
commence than the guests were expecting. There were different groups of people having
conversations laughing silently at each other s jokes, some were sitting on the pews and others
were standing up, but all were scattered. The band was still doing some warm up rounds, you could
see their concentration as they each fiddled with their instruments. The

Qohlab Reflection
I compared the text from the New Interpreter s Study Bible to an interpretation from the Message
Bible. While there were several differences in the wording and vocabulary used, for the most part
this did not affect how a reader might interpret the reading. However, the ending verse of the NIB
version states One man among a thousand I found, but a woman among all these I have not found.
While the Message interpretation states I didn t find one man or woman in a thousand worth my
while. This difference points out how the culture and time period in which the translation was
made or written influences the interpretation. Both before and after this passage follow the
general idea of the entire book, a teacher preaching about his wisdom from his point of view. I
believe that the reading does not need any context from the previous readings in the book to
understand, but having an understanding of the author s logic and way of thinking does help to
better reflect on the passage. A major theme from the author himself that caught my eye was the
author s realistic, some might even say pessimistic, view on his interpretation of life. The author
states that the reality of life is that no one on Earth can do good and not sin during their life. Also,
the author states that life is not fair and just despite conventional wisdom. The major theme is that
Qoheleth, the Teacher as the authors refers to their self, is teaching us about the world from their
point of view and from the wisdom

Early Ohio Corn Industry
In some societies, there are what seem to be small aspects of that society that create huge
impacts on the social, economic and technological development of that society. For the people of
Ohio, corn is an example of one such aspect. Even before the arrival of the Europeans, corn played
a crucial role in the progress of the civilizations of early Ohio. These people chose to import their
food source, rather than use homegrown sources. Their choice to use corn as a crop had serious
ramifications on the economy and public health of these pre european civilizations in Ohio. After
the arrival of the Europeans, corn became more and more important in the lives of Ohioans. Many
different areas in Ohio experienced rapid technological and economic development... Show more

However, it had a huge impact on the lives both early Ohio civilizations, as well as later Ohioans
who arrived long after the first European settlers. For the early civilizations, corn was a way to
feed as many people as possible, using a smaller amount of farmland. While there were negative
consequences of the use of corn for these people, the ability to feed more people, as well as
transforming the social structure of these civilizations through specialization, outweighed the
negative consequences. After the arrival of the Europeans, corn became the driving force of the
Ohio economy. Places like the Miami Valley became places of diversity and economic and
technological prominence through the leveraging of corn into other industries. For this reason, corn
was a transformative introduction into the Ohio area, creating a civilizations characterized by

Internet Is A Safe Haven For Criminals Essay
Would you believe me if I said that ninety nine percent of the internet is not accessible to the
average web surfer via your standard networks and search engines? The internet is like the ocean,
there is more than meets the eye and houses many deep dark back door servers and markets that
never reach the surface. Some may not be informed of this part of the internetand question its
existence, but the deep and dark webs exist and are hidden for a reason. Parts of the deep web
were created for good intentions, and some parts of the deep web give users access to information
that can be useful, but the negative aspects that have come from the deep web outweigh the
positive aspects, it is shown that the deep web is home to dangerous activity unseen by the naked
eye and has become a safe haven for criminals.
First a run down of the internet, the internet is made up of millions of computers all over the
world that are digitally connected to each other by cable, fibre or wireless links, in short it is a
bunch of networks communicating with one another. You can use the internet to browse websites,
communicate with people, download pictures and videos, listen to music or do lots of other
amazing things. Every single one of those computers has what is called an IP address, the IP
address is the unique set of numbers separated by periods, for example 170.65.240.9, this number
set identifies every device connected to the Internet. This IP address is not only for desktop home

Physics Of Boiling Point Elevation
Introduction
The experiments studied here were used to help shed light on the importance of molality.
Understanding how molality impacts colligative properties is important to understanding solutions.
Concepts like entropy can only be seen through experimentations, and visually seeing entropy on a
graph helps make the concept easier. The data collected from other groups and data found by this
group are all meant to help find correlations between molality and the colligative property of boiling
points. Studying boiling point elevation is a key concept that can only be truly understood through
hands on experimentation.
Materials
The materials used for the experiment include: hotplate, temperature probe, data collection
interface, ring stand, two utility clamps, paper towels, mass scale, cupcake paper, scoopula,
graduated cylinder, stirring rod, beaker, 2.415g of table salt (NaCl,) 7.46g of glucose (C6H12O6,)
400.00ml of distilled water (H2O)
Procedure
The hot plate was set on the base of the ring stand with both utility clamps attached to the ring
stand. They were attached so that one was hanging over the hot plate, while the other clamp faced
directly away from the hot plate. After the initial setup was done, a graduated cylinder was used to
measure out 100.00ml of distilled water into a beaker. For the three non control tests, glucose and
table salt were added to the distilled water at this step. Before placing the beaker of solution onto
the hotplate, 1.61 grams of

The Reasons Before I Learned In Poetry
Before I learned about poetry, I understand that poetic are rhyme, the words are soft, using the
metaphor, symbolic and also saying indirect way or some secret in. After I have learned about
poetry, I understand that just a meaningful conversation, a few actions or some experiences
might be a poem. We don t need to be rhyme, we don t need to be secret in or we don t need
metaphor, symbolic too much to be poetic. Because of the reasons, I define the word poetic with
the simplest way that is every words or situations can be poetic and it is just depend on the people
who look at as a poetic or not. So, it is not actually different with my daily activities. There are
many reasons that we learned in the class. The first reason is that I have learned about thinking,
knowing, believing and feeling. In this concept, according to ee crummings, I learned that we don t
need to think, know or believe to be poetic but we just need to feel only. I understand that our
thoughts, knowing or believing make our feelings. Moreover, we could not feel someone s feeling
although we can think, know or believe. So, to feel in the poem, we already know, believe or think.
In my daily life, I always express my feeling... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Tr. Joe, if we express our sensory that what we smell, what we taste, what we hear,
what we see and touch in details, it would become a poetic poem. For example, in the poem
Misfits within limits , I can see, hear and also taste. The speaker is phoning to his friend that I
can hear and they are going to the SONY HD Revolution Exhibition that I can see and they drink
cold drink that I can taste. Likely, in my daily life, I can understand by seeing with my eyes, by
hearing the sounds, by tasting the taste or by smelling with my nose or something that actually
happen to me. According to this reasons, it is similarities with my daily activities

Eric Erikson s Stages of Psychosocial Development Essay...
According to Eric Erikson, there are eight different social stages a person must go through as
they mature. Each stage has a positive characteristic and a negative characteristic. If positive
characteristics are fulfilled then their future will look good. So to what extent can the lack of
reinforcement to the positive characteristics of Erikson s psychosocial stages of development
effect you? The effects can be quite horrifying. Especially if all of the stages the only
characteristics fulfilled are the negative aspects. Erikson s first stage was trust verses mistrust and
it occurred from zero to 18 months of age. The point of this stage is to establish trust. Erikson
believed this was the most important period in a person s life. Since... Show more content on

If one was to achieve autonomy then they would have a feeling of confidence, but if those that
don t achieve autonomy doubt their own abilities and have a sense of inadequacy (Cherry,
2011). The effects of autonomy can also come back and haunt a person an adult, even if they
achieved it as a child. One of the most common scenarios would be when someone works for a
company and their boss does not allow them to take pride in their work or make decision by
themselves (Inglish). This lack in autonomy that is forced upon them is one of the most common
reasons why a person leaves their job (Inglish). Initiative versus guilt is the third stage of
psychosocial development. It s around three to six years of age when this role must be
established. The goal is to establish purpose and its achieved through exploration and play
(Cherry, 2011). Children begin to affirm their power over the world through interaction between
people and play (Cherry, 2011). They assert control over their environment and they try to take
control of their lives by planning activities, doing different assignments and taking on different
challenges (Cherry, 2011). Imagination plays an important role because it encourages the freedom
to do what they want and take the initiative of their lives (Cherry, 2011). When the child is not
given the chance to play or explore, or is stopped

title of her business is DisneyHartford , the fact that she still included Disney in her title is a
problem. When you think of the word Disney , you automatically think of children s entertainment;
as a result, this goes to show that consumers typically link the word Disney to a specific origin.

If there is a breach in the contract where the Powerball did not give him his percentage, then this

situation because she was not a part of the contract initially.
Property refers to tangible and intangible items. Ownership is a concept that means the right to
exclude others (pg. 233). Goodwin secretly owning properly without disclosing this information
with other people or students to the least is a little sketchy. However, I guess if they legally do
own this real property than Sophie has to give it back to them. The legal system protects the
right to own, acquire, protect and divest of real and personal property (pg. 235). If they have
never sold this properly it still belongs to Goodwin. It was her fault that she purchased this
property without researching it. Sophia is also at fault for purchasing real property without
getting a title that the properly belonged to her. Ownership rights are transferred by titles (pg.
245) Even though the property seemed abandoned; no one technically relinquished new
ownership towards it so it still belonged to Goodwin. Sophia got herself involved with a scammer.
Sophia should contact Attorney Sleaze and sue him for selling her property that was already owned
by somebody else. If she gives back the property to Goodwin, she can also sue him for her money

The Man He Killed Persuasive Essay

In the book The Things They Carried and the chapter The Man I Killed O Brien is the speaker.
He is talking about the man he killed over in Vietnam. I feel as if O Brien kind of thought way too
much about this guy s life. I also think that he dragged it out a bit more then he needed to. In the
poem The Man He Killed Thomas Hardy is the speaker. He talks about how the guy he killed and
himself could have been good friends if they didn t end up as enemies. He said he had to do
what the job was meaning they were both infantry and he shot him dead to do his duties. But

In O Brien s book when Ted Lavender died everyone was kind of sad in there own way. If it was
just saying what happened over and over again and annoying others by it , or just thinking it in
their head , thinking it was their fault. When a soldier dies in war the others still alive become
sad because the person they were getting to know and their brother in a way just died right next
to them, they had a connection with each other and now it s gone. In Hardy s poem when he
kills the other soldier, his foe he feels remorse for what he just did. He starts to overthink what he
had just done to a man that could have been his friend, but because their countries were at war,
they were foes from the start of the war even if they were not part of the war yet.
They way that the titles were written The Man He Killed Thomas Hardy , and O Brien s The
Man I Killed I think they both should have just said The Man I Killed because they way it is told
it sounds like they are both talking about them killing someone else. Thomas Hardy could have
been talking about himself or someone else in a war that happened before or an upcoming war
that he was just thinking about and that story popped into his head. In O Brien s story we kind of
know it is him talking about him killing another man even though in past chapters he was talking as

Comparing Trifles And A Jury Of Her Peers
Compare and Contrast Essay
Susan Glaspell lived from 1876 1948. She was the cofounder of the first modern American
theater company called the Provincetown Players, along with having been a pulitzer prize
winning playwright, an actress, a novelist, and a journalist, so she was kind of a jack of all
trades, meaning she had many different talents or skills. Glaspell was raised in Iowa, and
therefore she set place many of her pieces of writing in the state of Iowa. Trifles is a one act play
that is based on a murder trial that Glaspell covered as a young reporter. A Jury of Her Peers is

As I stated above, Trifles only gives the reader or viewer knowledge from the outside looking in.
The short story A Jury of Her Peers doesn t give the reader first person feelings and experiences,
however, the narrator of the story does give the reader any thoughts or feelings of the characters
that may be needed to better understand the story. The narrator is an important part in the change
between the play and the story. The narrator gives us information about each family, how people
are related, what things look like, what the weather is like, and many more small details that we
would not have known otherwise. For example, when arriving at the Wright house, the narrator
says It looked very lonesome on this cold March morning. This short sentence gives the reader so
much information that we don t know about in the play. We now know that it is in the morning
when they are going to examine the situation, and that its in March, so it s kind of cold still coming
out of winter. We also know that the Wright house looks lonely. This picture that the narrator puts
in the readers head is one that sets the tone for the whole story. One that we don t fully get until

Sequential Art Rhetorical Analysis
Rhetoric in Sequential Art When the word sequential art comes to mind, many people would
automatically assume some elaborate work of art that belongs in an art museum, but at a baseline
sequential art can be your average comic book or comic strip. This isn t to say that they shouldn t
be in an art museum because the work displayed in them is phenomenal and in some ways, can
surpass your stereotypical piece of art, but most people consider them childish, a waste of time, or
something that could never be taken seriously. In reality comics and other forms of sequential art
do something that many pieces of art cannot do. They can combine the beauty or simplicity behind
art, with a phenomenal storyline that everyone can understand. What is even... Show more content

When thinking about a novel, one of the most commonly used rhetorical tools used is imagery.
When a scene is important for the sake of the plot or important to the author, the author works
hard to bring the reader into the world that they see the action happening in. The same can be
said of the presentation of a certain sequence within a piece of sequential art. Whereas a square
can be seen as an ordinary frame for a comic, when the art is put into any other shape, it now
stands out as important to the reader and they are more inclined to noticed more detail within
the scene or frame. The same effect applies within the Narmer Palette and its presentation on the
stone tablet that it is carved on. The main parts of the story are in giant panels, framed in a large
rectangle and surrounded by the Egyptian goddess Bat, a cow goddess who was prevalent in

Case Study Scouts Canada Essay
Question 1
Using the full spectrum of segmentation variables, describe how Scouts Canada could segment its
market place.
Scouts Canada is a Canadian organization; therefore the organizations segmentation strategy is
primarily geographic. The company focuses on the Canadian market, including all provinces and
territories of the country.
Based on what the organization wants to accomplish Scouts Canada should dedicate their marketing
strategies to study and segment the market based on demographics (age, family size, life cycle) and
psychographics.
Demographic Segmentation fragments the market into categories according to different
demographic factors, usually with regards to the wants and needs of multiple consumer groups. The

planting trees, promoting recycling, and other projects. To further promote their new image they
published a simple and effective scouts manual, detailing new information, as well as designing a
new logo and bilingual motto to appeal to the countries two official languages. Finally they
fabricated new print advertisements that highlighted health issues such as obesity, and quirky ads,
which captured the public interest.
Question 3
What steps did Scouts Canada take to reposition its offering?
An initial aspect that Scouts Canada has reconstructed is their experiences, with the hopes of
expanding their potential scout member range.
The case study stated that members would start when they were very young and lose interest after
a few years. So one of the things Scouts Canada had to do was find a way to retain them past those
few years. The reason why Scouts Canada faced its loss of potential members was because they
failed to understand their market segments. They could not tailor their product or membership so

The revision process for me was difficult. It was difficult because I thought that my ideas were
clearly stated and organized. However, that was not the case. There were sections in which the
language of my essay made the ideas that I was trying to convey disorganized. Other times I had
too much going on and had to slow down the pace of the essay. In brief there were errors within my

In order to connect to the character:
What are the given circumstances?
What do these circumstances imply?
Once you figure step 1. .2 out, use your imagination to connect to the character.
*Audition tip: When preparing for an audition, don t be nervous because you re worried about
acting the part...
Remember I m not nervous because I am this character; I feel its emotions, its struggles, its love and
hate. The most important thing when waiting for your audition, is not whether you re going to land
the part or not, is to prepare yourself to become this character!
Anytime a noun is mentioned circle it, you need to remember it and really make a relation to it!

Self analytical review:
My audition wasn t believable; I think during the middle of my journey it looks like I ve become
apathetic, especially during a time where I should ve shown how much I wanted this girl.
When I got out of my character (when I disconnected) I stopped listening because I became
nervous: like I stopped acting and all the sudden was aware that I had all these stage lights cameras
on me.
I didn t use my environment.
When I m re watching film, I couldn t see myself being authentic in those moments, like that s not
how I would act; knowing myself, I think I d come off as more shy and awkward during this date.
I got lost in the page.
My Criticism: Take everything personally! What s your need! If you re feeling overwhelmed with
remembering the technicalities of preparing for your cold read, as well as taking stage direction,
just focus on the need. Knowing your need is the most important thing that can help you prepare
for an audition.
Maybe to help you better associate yourself with the character, remember three memories that this

William Shakespeare s Othello, The Moor Of Venice
A tragedy is typically explained as a type of drama that displays pain and suffering, and where the
main character, the protagonist, experiences a life changing event that alters his fortune from good
too bad. William Shakespeare s play, Othello, the Moor of Venice is classified as an Aristotelian
classical tragedybased on the guidelines Aristotle sets when examining a tragedy. Othellois a general
in the Venetian army, and the husband of Desdemona, and well respected by society. The play
describes how Othello s fate has an undesirable change in fortune, the reversal. In brief, Othello is
portrayed as a happy, powerful man in the beginning of the play, and by the end of the play he
endures pain and suffering from his own misfortune... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The play demonstrates recognition of Othello in Act V, his character changes from gullible and
insecure to aware. The ideas of Aristotelian tragic components are discussed in depth in his Poetics.
Aristotelian components include; the importance of events, the catharsis, the dramatic form, the
reversal and recognition, and the tragic hero giving substantial proof that the play is an Aristotelian
tragedy, and that Othello is a tragic hero according to Aristotle.
The tragic hero, Othello, is a Moorish general in the Venetian army that has just married the
Venetian nobleman s daughter, Desdemona. Although Othello was not born into nobility (upper
class), his marriage to Desdemona brings him to a noble stature in Venice society. Othello is
much older than his wife and of different descent and race, but he willingly stood before
Desdemona s father and fought for their love and right to marriage, he states, How I did thrive in
this fair lady s love, / And she is mine (1.3.127 28). This qualifies him to meet the first Aristotelian
component for being the plays tragic hero. The first distinguishing feature Aristotle identifies in
regards to the tragic hero is that he is the protagonist in high

In a first step we have to postulate when the successful exit is going to happen. Normally this
period is assumed to be between 3 and 7 years long. In our case, we make the assumption that a
successful exit is going to happen in 1999. Since we are only concerned about the successful
scenario, we go along with the projection of AccessLine, which is probably overoptimistic, and
use its expected revenue of 208M at the time the exit happens. After the IPO, we presume the
company will grow at a high rate for the next five years in the 75 percentile as proposed by

We chose five years since the typical firm reaches maturity within five years after the IPO.
Besides, we assume a tax rate of 30.64% given by the industry average (Damodaran 2013). As a

Being a psychology major, I tend to enjoy dances that appeal to emotion through stories. The
dance that I decided to write this paper on is a small group contemporary piece performed by the

The Solar System
What are planets? Planets are kinda like asteroid around the sun. There are nine planets in the solar

The terrestrial planets are the four innermost planets in the solar system, Mercury, Venus, Earth and

The Sun appears to have been active for 4.6 billion years and has enough fuel to go on for

They also help determine whom to treat, how aggressively to treat, which candidates will likely

effects of a drug on a tumor and can possibly determine the proper dosage in the early stages of

Identification of disease specific molecular biomarkers is a rational approach to addressing current
clinical challenges of whom to biopsy, whom to offer certain interventional therapies, in whom to

With recent advances in biotechnology, many potential blood biomarkers have been identified and

where the population is rising rapidly and the resources cannot support it. The growth rate in the

Antony and Cleopatra by William Shakespeare
Throughout Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra, readers are constantly thrown in the middle of a
battle between Roman and Egyptian values. Antony, a noble warrior for the Romans, is the
character that seems to have the most trouble between this dichotomy. He is constantly caught
between reason (Rome) and passion (Egypt) and has a difficult time making the transitions.
Cleopatra is the character that stays most true to her roots, but begins adopting the other side s
values toward the end of the story. She makes a smoother transition than Antony, which can be
attributed to her self confidence and open minded spirit. Antony is a constant source of back and

Although much rage from Antony caused him to threaten to kill her, Cleopatra had seduced Antony
through her sexualized actions and personality so much in their time together that Antony quickly
forgave Cleopatra when he received news she was dead. In a contrasting view, Cleopatra s decision
to betray Antony twice in battle can also be seen as a Roman action that signifies strong dominance
and influence. Although it was a decision that hurt the Romans, she took on the masculine role of
the Romans and led them to their loss. When Cleopatra decided to betray Antony, not once but
twice, she made a decision that took initiative, leadership, and masculinity that are all characteristics
of the Romans. Another way in which Cleopatra expresses this inner dominance is through her
power over Antony throughout the entire book. While maybe not seen as a Roman quality at the
beginning because Egyptians tend to portray femininity, Cleopatra s actions towards Antony go far
beyond femininity and into supremacy. Whether it was through her charm and sexual manipulation
to control Antony in his decisions, her persuasive powers to regain his trust and forgiveness after
her betrayals, or her structured view on how Antony should treat her, Cleopatra undoubtedly
dominated the relationship. As the story ends, Cleopatra possesses reason, a Roman quality, in her
decision to kill herself. While many may argue this was an Egyptian action, it

The Little Albert Experiment By John B. Watson
Throughout psychology we have learned a variety of experiments that have made an impact toward
the field of psychology. One important experiment that was significant in the field was the Little
Albert Experiment by John B. Watson. John B. Watson was a behaviorist where he wanted to
conduct an experiment that further Ivan Pavlov research on classical conditioning. Classical
conditioning is a theory engages a new behavior through the process of association. This theory
includes three stages of classical conditioning; the first stage is called unconditioned stimulus,
which produces an unconditioned response within an organism. One example of this stage is where
a perfume is the unconditioned stimulus, which can create a response of pleasure or desire
(unconditioned response). The second stage is during the conditioning where the conditioned
stimulus is presented. The conditioned stimulus is the stimulus that does not produce any response
related to the unconditioned stimulus. The third stage is what happened after the conditioning, this
stage represents the roll of all three conditioning combined and how it can impact the organism.
John B. Watsonwent more in depth about classical conditioning where he created his well know
experiment involving a child instead of an animal. Watson s research revolved around an
observational method. According to McLeod (2015) from the simply psychology website, the

Bilateral Review System Analysis
Bilateral review systems are ultimately unreliable. Many customers are forced to say positive, but
not necessarily true, traits about themselves or hotels and are usually rated by companies unfairly.
For Uber, customers are rated on their behavior, but there are no real standards suggesting what is
meant by good, bad, or mediocre behavior. It is purely up to the designation of the driver, which
can be more opinionated than factual. Thus, it is not a surprise when a passenger feels perplexed
to find out his or her passenger score has been lowered even if the passenger did everything in his
or her power to leave a lasting impression on the driver.
This then puts an overwhelming amount of pressure people to write a review about themselves,

Pros And Cons Of Social Categorization
Have you ever judged a person by their age, gender or appearance rather than really knowing
them? When you meet a tattooed man on the street, your first impression of him might be bad, i.e.
a negative categorization, since tattoos are associated with criminals and unemployed people.
However, he could be a person who does volunteer and works as a business manager. People tend
to automatically categorize a person into groups by visual judgements, demographic features,
personality and own perceptions or beliefs (Billig Tajfel, 1973). Social categorizationis a process of
classifying people into different groups based on their similar characteristics and group
memberships. It is a natural part of social perceptionand serves a basic epistemic and identity
function in organizing and structuring people s knowledge about the world and make things
become manageable in daily life (Bodenhausen, Kang Peery, 2012). It occurs spontaneously
without much thoughts (Crips Hewstone, 2007). In social categorization, we usually form a
general conclusion about other people and begin to respond to them as a member of a particular
social group than as individuals. It allows us to communicate and connect with those who share the
same or similar group membership. Social groups that we use in social categorization can change
under different situations and over time. Whaley and Link (1998) discovered that there is a strong
association between categorization and stereotype based judgments. For

government in terms of social policy. (Ellison Pierson, 1998) The Children Act 1989sets out
legislation to provide for numerous circumstances which could occur in a child s life and cause a
detrimental effect on his or her well being. Examples of the guidelines that are included in the act
are briefly summarised here: The 1989 Act provides guidance for custody of children for issues
such as the divorce of parents, neglect, sexual/physical and mental abuse or future risk. (Blakemore,

Be ВґNabouTirole* (2006) wrote that what makes prosocial behavior unusual is that providing
rewards and punishments to foster prosocial behavior sometimes has a perverse effect,
reducingthe total contribution provided by agents. Such a crowding out of intrinsic motivation
by extrinsic incentives has been observed in a broad variety of social interactions. Altruism is
the principle or practice of unselfish concern for or devotion to the welfare of others (The
American HeritageВ® Science Dictionary, 2002). Imagine being placed in a situation where
you perform an act of kindness for a person in need, yet you expect nothing back in return. This
behavior pattern, not just a random act of self sacrifice goes against the principles of
evolutionary law however, and as a result, has raised a lot of debate between people of many
different disciplines (Russell, Bayer, 1998). A great example of altruism was the contributions of
Mother Teresa. Her life s work was admired so much that there is still a world wide effort to her
beatified and eventually achieving sainthood. David Myers explained the Bystander Effect as such:
When there is an emergency, the more bystanders there are, the less likely it is that any of them

Interracial Intimacy Summary
Today, interracial relationships are socially acceptable but that has not always been the case.
Rachel M. Moran, author of Interracial Intimacy, argues that the freedom to love across the color
line is a recent phenomenon in American history. As late as the 1960s, U.S. states had the power to
prohibit races from intermarrying, at one point, mostly all 50 states have banned interracial
marriages. During the colonial era, anti miscegenation laws were used to define the differences
between whites and blacks; the statutes aimed at keeping racial privilege. It was not until 1967 that
anti miscegenation laws were overruled by the Supreme Court in Loving v. Virginia. Furthermore,
several other factors contributed to the overruling of statutes... Show more content on

Connecticut, the right to marital privacy was established; the Court claimed that although the
Constitution does not explicitly protect individuals general right to privacy, the various
amendments, in conjunction, establish a right to privacy. The First, Third, Fourth, and Ninth
Amendments, altogether create the right to privacy in marital relations, therefore, interracial
marriages, too, have the right to marital privacy (Griswold 1965). With both cases rulings we can
deduce that interracial relationships should not have been prohibited because, as the cases indicate,
every person has the right to marital privacy. According to the cases, anti miscegenation statutes
were unlawful since the laws were put into effect to prevent races from

Descriptive Essay On The Dark Knight
Arturo Gutierrez
Professor Levesque
English 60

The Dark Knight
You only have your thoughts and dreams ahead of you. You are someone. You mean something.
Very inspirational quote right, maybe it came from the president or Oprah, someone big right? It
came from a fictional character in a comic book, Batman the Dark Knight. Comics have become
something greater than what people consider them to be. Especially the characters portrayed in
said comics. Comic books are literally larger than life, the characters in these comics may have
superpowers or live in a place that would only exist in the craziest of dreams. But they are
written so well that it really does convince one to believe that a place like this may actually exist
and that anything can happen in it. This is how they get the reader, into the comic; and because of
this you are entertained. We read our favorite comic books and take in the lessons written in each
and every page. Such as Batman. Batman is one of the greatest and well known heroes in the
comic book world. He has been very popular in pop culture throughout the years because of
television and movie adaptations.
When I was growing up I was first introduced to the Dark Knight by my dad when he would turn on
the television every Saturday morning and tune into Batman The Animated Series. I remember
instantly gaining interest in it because he was really cool, he fought bad guys, and he had all these
gadgets that helped him fight for justice.

Prejudice In The Sign Of Four
Prejudice towards other cultures by Europeans during the 19th and 20th century was common. The
Sign of Four is a novel written by Arthur Conan Doyle in the late 19th century, and features
Sherlock Holmes. In the novel, Dr. Watson and Sherlock Holmes undertake the mystery of the
precious Agra treasure after being approached by a young and beautiful woman named Miss
Morstan. She contacted the two in hope of discovering the reason for her father s disappearance.
This leads to Holmes, Watson, and Miss Morstan working closely with Dr. Thaddeus Sholto. The
novel takes place during the time of the Indian rebellion. Arthur Conan Doylepoorly depicts non

since he was in presence of a foreigner s house then it should be in fact of less value than his own,

Deborah Tannen And Gender
Deborah Tannen is an American academic and professor of linguistics at Georgetown University in
Washington, D.C. Her research mainly focuses on the expression of interpersonal relationships in
conversational interactions, including how these interactions are affected by gender and cultural
differences. In her essay Tannen uses genderto reveal the differences between maleand female
conversational styles in classroom discussions. She formulates the theory that males naturally
prefer and dominate contributions to these debate like discussions while females incline to
contribute to less hostile conversations. Tannen presents her argument effectively using simple
vocabulary and appropriate literary devices however, as the essay progresses she... Show more

However, Tannen does not consider it in her research. What makes a male or a female dominate
discussions in class is more or less reliant on their personality. In a regular classroom there are
innumerable personalities that contradict each other and similarly those who do not participate in
debating at all, regardless of sex. It all depends on the personality of a person while Tannen
ignoring this aspect proposes a clichГ©d approach where males tend to dominate females in
discussions and then provides vague and insufficient supports to justify her

A Summary On The Intellectual Merits And. Broader Impact...
Before explaining the obtained results in details we start a summary on the intellectual merits and
broader impact of the project.
The PI initiates a new approach (in items 2,5, 6), using the precise large time
asymptotic behavior of solutions of a parabolic equation to study the geometric property of K
manifolds, and to solve the Poincar Lelong equation. The method is effective in proving
sharp and optimal result. The method reminisces the celebrated ergodic theorem of Birkhoff
which connects the space average of a continuous function on the phase
space of a Hamiltonian system with its time average taking along the trajectory (see the second part

11 comparison result for viscosity solutions of some first and second order PDEs are proved. This
immediately yields the celebrated Levy Gromov isoperimetric inequality and its generalization
as consequences. In item 14, a classification result on four dimensional gradient shrinking
solitons with nonnegative isotropic curvature was proved. This result generalizes the earlier result of
Naber, which proves a classification under the stronger assumption of bounded nonnegative
curvature operator.
The research conducted in items 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 are related to Birkhoff ergodic
theorem (which was applied by H. Weyl to understand the retreats and advances of glaciers. Further
understanding of this connection shall be sensational to the subject of partial differential equation
and
dynamic system. The research in items 9, 12, 13 are related to the concept of entropy in
thermodynamics, which have impacts to other sciences beyond mathematics. The work in item 1
contributes an advancement in the high energy physics.
In promoting teaching, training, and learning, the PI
advised (including some current students) nine Ph.D students, including two female graduate
students, and served/serves as the faculty mentor for several postdoc visitors, including one SEW

My Manfathers
People have different beliefs about who our ancestors are. In other words, how humans came
into existence on the mother Earth, and who they were. There are many different types of origin
stories, ranging from tribal specific Native American stories to the story of Adam and Eve and
beyond (Perea 18, 2014). As a Muslim, I believe all humans are the sons and daughters of Adam
and Eves. However, it is not clear if heaven that mentioned in the story is that magical place we
all think of, or was it just the mother Earth, but in much better form. I am from the Middle East,
where most of the oldest civilizations are located, and the origin of Islam, Christianity and
Judaism. Since it is the oldest known origin of humanity, the answer to where my ancestors
came from is nearly impossible to answer, because in order to find the answer you have to look
back at maybe not only 10,000 years back, but maybe millions, who knows? However, if you are
asking me about my ancestors that I have heard of, I still can not give you a clear answer due to the
fact that I come from a dry land, and as we all know water is an essential element of life, so the
way ancestors had been living in the desert is by following water, they were always moving.
Geologists now say that the desert was full of life, because there was a plenty of water, and that
led to the existence of many old civilizations. However, when the land starts drying out, people start
immigrating to other places, like Europe, Africa, the rest of Asia and the Americas.
In pow wow space, it is amazing to see the way that Native Americans are organizing themselves
around the drum and why. Dr. Hoehner described a pow wow as taking place within four circles
(Perea 25, 2014). Any culture has their own way of organizing themselves in a social gathering
such as singing, but I have always thought that American Indians pow wow space is built
differently to what mentioned in the book. The circle starts with fire, dancers mostly females,
drums and both singers and audience. Of course, that was not true.
The spacing topic made me think of a type of tribal singing that starting to disappear in the Arabian
Peninsula that had been practiced for thousands of years. It happens when two

Disadvantages Of Timestamps Algorithm
Advantages of this algorithm: It is nearly impossible to extricate the original information. Even if
in case the algorithm is known, it is very difficult to obtain the key. The Timestamps will prevent
any replay attack. Non repudiation is also provided by the timestamps. It is very versatile for
users. Different users can use separate modified versions of the algorithm. It nearly impossible to
generate the key matrix even if plain text and cipher text are recognized. The same character is
replaced by different alpha numerical values which gives more security to the message.
Example of the algorithm:
Step 1:

There is a match at R[4],R[9] R[18]. Neglect already visited elements. Hence b(0)=[0,4,9,18).
Repeat step 1 with the remaining elements of the bin of step 2 and store them in the same bin. This
will form one bin.
Here, Step 1 is repeated with other elements of bin ie. 4, 9 and 18 values. For elements 4 19, there
is no match of values in R[27]. For element 18, there is a match at R[6], R[7], R[12], R[15]. Thus
the bin b(0) is updated to (0, 4, 9, 18, 3, 6, 7, 12, 15).
We continue to do so till all the elementsof the bin are visited.
So, elements 3, 12 and 15 have no match. But element 6 has a match at R[1], R[2], R[10] and
R[19]. Element 7 has a match at R[5].
Hence, the updated bin after all computations. b(0) is (0,4,9,3,6,7,1,2,10,11,19,5,12,15,18,21)
Now the procedure is repeated for the next element of the sequence 1 which has not been visited
earlier. The other bins formed are: b(1) = (8, 14, 20, 23,24,25) b(2) = (13) b(3) = (26,16,17, 22)
Advantages of this algorithm: It is nearly impossible to extricate the original information. Even if
in case the algorithm is known, it is very difficult to obtain the key. The Timestamps will prevent

Creating Objects and Scenes: this task has done through defining three process. Start with
modeling process, which used specific techniques to determine the desired shapes of objects. Those
techniques include polygons technique, rectangular key (splines) technique ...etc. [5]
Then, we define the surfaces that will use in the scenes, through selecting their materials, specifying
the required features in the surfaces such as the degree of reflectivity, and applying the images.
Finally, the scenes are composed and organized through put the objects in the right position,
determine the camera angles, and other related effects. [5]
Defining Motions: in this task, we assign the needed elements such as sounds, lights, and the
used cameras as well. Besides, in motion task, we can define the positions and the movement of
these elements. For example, the lights can move from site to site to follow the characters. [5]
Rendering: this is the final task related to 3 D animation. During this task, the final result of the

The Japanese Battleship Yamato could fire eighteen inch shells that weighed as much as a Toyota twenty five miles, although not as accurate as the Iowa. The Iowa could go 32.5 knots, or 37.4 miles per hour. The Yamato could travel 27 knots, or 31 miles per hour. These were two of the greatest battleships of World War II. Although the greatest and most powerful ship ever built at the time, the Yamato did not survive the war. This will be what the government hopes is a new battleship. It is the most technologically advanced ship ever built. It is expected to be run by computers and require only nineteen sailors per shift to man the bridge. Everything from the valves on the showers to the turrets for the guns will be automated. And unlike the crew from the Iowa class ships, the sailors onboard the new modernized battleship will have many creature comforts including libraries and lounges. The smallest spaces for the lowest ranks will only have four people per room and bathroom, which is an upgrade from the Iowa class ships.( Inside The Zumwalt Destroyer ) What is the coolest thing about the Zumwalt is that is shows up on radar as a small fishing vessel, not the mighty battleship that it is at 610 feet. It has many of the features talked about previously in this paper including a helipad for two helicopters, but unfortunately cannot accommodate an Osprey. If it is ever completed the Zumwalt will be armed with two long range guns that fire guided artillery shells up to 72 miles, two smaller guns to protect it from things that may come too close, and 80 different missile launch points. Another cool thing is that the Navy is also thinking about putting a futuristic rail gun and lasers on it too. • 4. Tackling Environmental Pollution with Green Taxes Introduction Green taxes were introduced objectively to tackle environment pollutions. According to (Fullerton, Leicester, Smith, 2008), taxes on things such as Landfill, industrial energy use (the climate change levy), aggregate levy, motor fuel differentiation, vehicle exercise duty differentiation and central London congestion charge had either been introduced or reformed in the past 20 years to tackle environmental pollution. These taxes are called Green Taxes or Environmental Taxes. Global warming has brought a big concern on environmental issues in many countries, including U.K. Different studies have suggested the need for swift and urgent actions to alleviate the possible costs of climate change. Introducing taxes so called environmental taxes, changes trade permits and other economic measures might play an important role to achieve cost effective control of greenhouse gas emissions (Stern, 2007) Figures from Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows that U.K government collected ВЈ41.4billions from environmental taxes in the year 2010 (Office for National Statistics, 2011), rising up to 4.8% in comparison to 2009. This implies that environmental tax revenues have increased exponentially year on year basis, causing doubts to consumers mind on two aspects. (a) Do environmental taxes benefit the government or consumers?. (b) Are there alternatives to environmental taxes?. • 5. Literary Devices In Norton Juster s The Phantom Tollbooth Norton Juster s book, The Phantom Tollbooth successfully used different types of literary devices to introduce the main theme of the novel which was the importance of education. Juster told the story of a boy named Milo who was described as, ...a boy... who didn t know what to do with himself not just sometimes, but always (1961, p. 9). Milo was very indecisive and overall, he leads a pretty boring and uneventful life. However, all of that changed when he came home from school one day and noticed a mysterious tollbooth in his bedroom. The tollbooth made him start to realize the value of education and the importance of enjoying what was going on in his day to day life. The literary devicesJuster chose to use in his writing increased the quality of his work and they also helped allow him to engage his readers in what they were reading more. Juster uses a wide variety of different types of literary devices throughout the entire story but three of the most common are irony, puns, and allegory. One of the most ironic moments in the book is when Milo, Tock, and Humbug enter the Valley of Sound on their way to Digitopolis. From the time they entered the valley it is obvious that something was missing. Juster wrote, at first it was difficult to tell just what had changed it all looked the same and it all smelled the same but for some reason, nothing sounded the same (1961, p. 144). By making the Valley of Sound of all places completely silent in the book, readers become more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Qohlab Reflection I compared the text from the New Interpreter s Study Bible to an interpretation from the Message Bible. While there were several differences in the wording and vocabulary used, for the most part this did not affect how a reader might interpret the reading. However, the ending verse of the NIB version states One man among a thousand I found, but a woman among all these I have not found. While the Message interpretation states I didn t find one man or woman in a thousand worth my while. This difference points out how the culture and time period in which the translation was made or written influences the interpretation. Both before and after this passage follow the general idea of the entire book, a teacher preaching about his wisdom from his point of view. I believe that the reading does not need any context from the previous readings in the book to understand, but having an understanding of the author s logic and way of thinking does help to better reflect on the passage. A major theme from the author himself that caught my eye was the author s realistic, some might even say pessimistic, view on his interpretation of life. The author states that the reality of life is that no one on Earth can do good and not sin during their life. Also, the author states that life is not fair and just despite conventional wisdom. The major theme is that Qoheleth, the Teacher as the authors refers to their self, is teaching us about the world from their point of view and from the wisdom ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Internet Is A Safe Haven For Criminals Essay Would you believe me if I said that ninety nine percent of the internet is not accessible to the average web surfer via your standard networks and search engines? The internet is like the ocean, there is more than meets the eye and houses many deep dark back door servers and markets that never reach the surface. Some may not be informed of this part of the internetand question its existence, but the deep and dark webs exist and are hidden for a reason. Parts of the deep web were created for good intentions, and some parts of the deep web give users access to information that can be useful, but the negative aspects that have come from the deep web outweigh the positive aspects, it is shown that the deep web is home to dangerous activity unseen by the naked eye and has become a safe haven for criminals. First a run down of the internet, the internet is made up of millions of computers all over the world that are digitally connected to each other by cable, fibre or wireless links, in short it is a bunch of networks communicating with one another. • 12. Physics Of Boiling Point Elevation Introduction The experiments studied here were used to help shed light on the importance of molality. Understanding how molality impacts colligative properties is important to understanding solutions. Concepts like entropy can only be seen through experimentations, and visually seeing entropy on a graph helps make the concept easier. The data collected from other groups and data found by this group are all meant to help find correlations between molality and the colligative property of boiling points. Studying boiling point elevation is a key concept that can only be truly understood through hands on experimentation. Materials The materials used for the experiment include: hotplate, temperature probe, data collection interface, ring stand, two utility clamps, paper towels, mass scale, cupcake paper, scoopula, graduated cylinder, stirring rod, beaker, 2.415g of table salt (NaCl,) 7.46g of glucose (C6H12O6,) 400.00ml of distilled water (H2O) Procedure The hot plate was set on the base of the ring stand with both utility clamps attached to the ring stand. They were attached so that one was hanging over the hot plate, while the other clamp faced directly away from the hot plate. After the initial setup was done, a graduated cylinder was used to measure out 100.00ml of distilled water into a beaker. For the three non control tests, glucose and table salt were added to the distilled water at this step. Before placing the beaker of solution onto the hotplate, 1.61 grams of ... When a scene is important for the sake of the plot or important to the author, the author works hard to bring the reader into the world that they see the action happening in. The same can be said of the presentation of a certain sequence within a piece of sequential art. Whereas a square can be seen as an ordinary frame for a comic, when the art is put into any other shape, it now stands out as important to the reader and they are more inclined to noticed more detail within the scene or frame. Classical conditioning is a theory engages a new behavior through the process of association. One example of this stage is where a perfume is the unconditioned stimulus, which can create a response of pleasure or desire (unconditioned response). The second stage is during the conditioning where the conditioned stimulus is presented. When you meet a tattooed man on the street, your first impression of him might be bad, i.e. a negative categorization, since tattoos are associated with criminals and unemployed people. However, he could be a person who does volunteer and works as a business manager. People tend to automatically categorize a person into groups by visual judgements, demographic features, personality and own perceptions or beliefs (Billig Tajfel, 1973). Social categorizationis a process of classifying people into different groups based on their similar characteristics and group memberships. It is a natural part of social perceptionand serves a basic epistemic and identity function in organizing and structuring people s knowledge about the world and make things become manageable in daily life (Bodenhausen, Kang Peery, 2012). It occurs spontaneously without much thoughts (Crips Hewstone, 2007). In social categorization, we usually form a general conclusion about other people and begin to respond to them as a member of a particular social group than as individuals. It allows us to communicate and connect with those who share the same or similar group membership. This behavior pattern, not just a random act of self sacrifice goes against the principles of evolutionary law however, and as a result, has raised a lot of debate between people of many different disciplines (Russell, Bayer, 1998). A great example of altruism was the contributions of Mother Teresa. Her life s work was admired so much that there is still a world wide effort to her beatified and eventually achieving sainthood. David Myers explained the Bystander Effect as such: When there is an emergency, the more bystanders there are, the less likely it is that any of them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Interracial Intimacy Summary Today, interracial relationships are socially acceptable but that has not always been the case. Rachel M. Moran, author of Interracial Intimacy, argues that the freedom to love across the color line is a recent phenomenon in American history. As late as the 1960s, U.S. states had the power to prohibit races from intermarrying, at one point, mostly all 50 states have banned interracial marriages. During the colonial era, anti miscegenation laws were used to define the differences between whites and blacks; the statutes aimed at keeping racial privilege. It was not until 1967 that anti miscegenation laws were overruled by the Supreme Court in Loving v. Virginia. Furthermore, several other factors contributed to the overruling of statutes... With both cases rulings we can deduce that interracial relationships should not have been prohibited because, as the cases indicate, every person has the right to marital privacy. • 50. My Manfathers People have different beliefs about who our ancestors are. In other words, how humans came into existence on the mother Earth, and who they were. There are many different types of origin stories, ranging from tribal specific Native American stories to the story of Adam and Eve and beyond (Perea 18, 2014). As a Muslim, I believe all humans are the sons and daughters of Adam and Eves. However, it is not clear if heaven that mentioned in the story is that magical place we all think of, or was it just the mother Earth, but in much better form. I am from the Middle East, where most of the oldest civilizations are located, and the origin of Islam, Christianity and Judaism. Since it is the oldest known origin of humanity, the answer to where my ancestors came from is nearly impossible to answer, because in order to find the answer you have to look back at maybe not only 10,000 years back, but maybe millions, who knows? However, if you are asking me about my ancestors that I have heard of, I still can not give you a clear answer due to the fact that I come from a dry land, and as we all know water is an essential element of life, so the way ancestors had been living in the desert is by following water, they were always moving. Geologists now say that the desert was full of life, because there was a plenty of water, and that led to the existence of many old civilizations. However, when the land starts drying out, people start immigrating to other places, like Europe, Africa, the rest of Asia and the Americas. In pow wow space, it is amazing to see the way that Native Americans are organizing themselves around the drum and why. Dr. Hoehner described a pow wow as taking place within four circles (Perea 25, 2014). Any culture has their own way of organizing themselves in a social gathering such as singing, but I have always thought that American Indians pow wow space is built differently to what mentioned in the book. The circle starts with fire, dancers mostly females, drums and both singers and audience. Of course, that was not true. The spacing topic made me think of a type of tribal singing that starting to disappear in the Arabian Peninsula that had been practiced for thousands of years. It happens when two ... Here, Step 1 is repeated with other elements of bin ie. 4, 9 and 18 values. For elements 4 19, there is no match of values in R[27]. For element 18, there is a match at R[6], R[7], R[12], R[15]. Thus the bin b(0) is updated to (0, 4, 9, 18, 3, 6, 7, 12, 15). We continue to do so till all the elementsof the bin are visited. So, elements 3, 12 and 15 have no match. Start with modeling process, which used specific techniques to determine the desired shapes of objects. Those techniques include polygons technique, rectangular key (splines) technique ...etc. [5] Then, we define the surfaces that will use in the scenes, through selecting their materials, specifying the required features in the surfaces such as the degree of reflectivity, and applying the images. Finally, the scenes are composed and organized through put the objects in the right position, determine the camera angles, and other related effects.
