The Chicago Teachers Union And Chicago Public Schools
Georgis, Donnell, Mike, Moose
For the second time in almost 4 years, over 350,000 Chicago Public School Students may not be
able to go to school because of the CTU Strike that is currently in progress today (The Washington
Post). The issue between the Chicago Teachers Union and Chicago Public Schools has not been
solved yet due to disagreements about the income received. The Chicago Teachers Union has made
offers to school administrations; however, the responses were not in their favor. The union has
been in progress of agreeing on a contract since November 2011, [and the strike that occurred at
the time] was the first to hit the Windy City in 25 years (Liebelson). The issue must have erupted
due to a misconception or a realization of problems occurring. Chicago Teachers Union choosing
to strike does not affect charter schools since they are not a part of Chicago Public Schools. The
issue of school strikes can be fixed by increasing the budgets and providing useful resources to
teachers in order to improve the level of education.
The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) Strike in 2012 affected every single Chicago Public School
and their Students in 2012. The strike affected about 600 public schools which is over 350, 000
students. The CTU began negotiating their contract with CPS in November of 2011, but their
demands were not met. Since the negotiating did not solve the issue, the Chicago Teachers Union
chose to organize a strike for the first time in Chicago in 25 years.

Essay Comparing The Book Of Job And Aesop s Fables
The Book of Job and Aesop s Fables, despite their stark differences in characters, style, and
rhetoric, both share similar themes, including love, loss, and the importance of lending a helping
hand. The Shepard and the Lion, demonstrates how imperative it is to take the time to assist
others. In the fable, the Shepard removes a thorn from the lion s paw. Later on the Shepard was
falsely accused of a crime and at the next public games...thrown to beasts, (p.626). However, the
lion recognizes the Shepard and in the end, the lion is spared and the man set free. When one
takes time to helps those in need, it is likely that others will be willing to do the same when you
are in need. Although, this lesson is not plainly stated in the Book of Job, the actions of Job indicate
the importance of helping others, even if they seem undeserving.... Show more content on

The men conclude, Job must have committed an act(s) worthy of punishment. Zophar the
Naamathite, implies Job is deserving of a punishment greater than what he has received, (11:1 12).
Once God spoke to Job, he asked that Job pray for his friends (p.217), Job obliged. Rather than
condemn his friends, as they did to him, Job prayed for them, hinting that he cares about them, as
well as validating his selflessness. Even though Job lost everything, including his home, family,
and health, he continues to love and worship God. Love, is not as prominent of a theme in the
fables analyzed for the course, nevertheless, in The Wolf in Sheep s Clothing, one possible lesson
is, love yourself as you are and do not try to be someone that you are not. However, a strong theme
seen throughout both is loss or rather the idea that one has to lose everything in order to appreciate

Fox News Research Paper
Rupert Murdoch created Fox News after he bought 20th Century Fox Films and had the rights to
create an additional channel. It was created on October 7, 1996 after he created his popular
Australian channel Sky News. It was developed in the United States and 10 million households
were able to watch it after 24 hours of being launched. It was created so that people in the United
States could be able to watch the news on one channel that broadcasted all over the U.S.
The Fox News channel increased in 2000 with about 56 million people watching the channel and
is still increasing each year. Rupert eventually turns the company over for 250 million dollars
which is way more than he put in to start the channel. While Murdoch was studying at Oxford he
learned a lot about journalism and worked for a small news company. He has been on to use these
skills towards his businesses and is what make him successful. As he ... Show more content on

Everyone in the world watches the news and it being one of the leading programs and newspaper,
shows how popular it is. The news has everything about everything that is important and is the
main reason people watch or read it, whether it be the weather, news about celebrities, or what the
president is up to. Every time an event big or small happens the news is there to inform the world
which is probably the reason Rupert invested in it.
Rupert Murdoch also invested in Myspace which led him to even more money and business.
Murdoch s business went towards many direction him having some business in Asia, South
America, and many other countries. His news company in the United Kingdom was gaining him
very good wealth and was getting bigger and bigger. His business got big when satellite cable
came out with his channel being on there. His businesses gain him a lot of wealth and now in his

Socrates Unexamined Life
Socrates theory of the unexamined life would argue that that a life spent without self examination
was a life that was wasted. Socrates believed that a person should question their motives and what
they valued in life. He believed a life spent pursuing material gain or power was a life that was not
a life well spent. Instead Socratesbelieved that a person should constantly be looking inward.
They should question their motives and better themselves by correcting any motives or actions
that are not pure. To Socrates the noblest pursuit in life was the quest for knowledge. He wanted
people to question what they knew and search for answers for that which they did not know.
While I agree with most of Socrates ideas on the unexamined life I do not agree that an
unexamined life is wasted. I agree with Socrates that we should constantly be looking to better
ourselves by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are several reasons for my position on this. First, it is very possible for a person to live an
unselfish life without self examination. For example we have no idea if Florence Nightingale
spent time examining her own life. Yet, even if she spent no time on self examination I believe
she still would have been a great person. I believe some people are motivated by a desire to help
others that does not require them to examine their own lives to motivate them to do good. While
conversely it is possible for an evil person to understand what their motivations and desires are,
while doing nothing at all to better themselves. If self examination does anything it maximizes a
person s potential. An unexamined life can be considered a full life that accomplished many great
things, but it is likely that if the person had spent time examining their life they could have
accomplished even more. I think it would be better to say that an unexamined life is one that did
not reach its full

A Clockwork Orange
Anthony Burgess A Clockwork Orange is a dystopian novel set in an oppressive, futuristic state.
Published in 1962, A Clockwork Orange is an extremely intense, graphic, and, at times, horrifying
novel. A reader begins to question their own values as they become numb and desensitized to the
violence at hand. Both behaviorism and free will is occurring throughout A Clockwork Orange. A
Clockwork Orange brings up a question, how much control of our own free will do we actually
have? Do we really control our own lives, or are they subject to the cards we are dealt? In A
Clockwork Orange, behavioranalysis and free will are displayed. Human nature has long since been
in question. Alex is an extremely interesting character. He is a... Show more content on

Alex had control over the things that he was doing, and then it was taken away from him. We
have very limited control over what we do because society takes our free will away. Behaviorism
has a relation to free will. Watson s view on behaviorism is ...psychologyshould embrace behavior
as its subject matter and rely on experimental observation of that subject matter as its method
(Moore 451). Also Watson published his paper Psychology as the Behaviorist Views It, and in this
paper he states: Psychology as the behaviorist views it is a purely objective experimental branch of
natural science. Its theoretical goal is the prediction and control of behavior. Introspection forms no
essential part of its methods, nor is the scientific value of its data dependent upon the readiness with
which they lend themselves to interpretation in terms of consciousness (Harzem 6)
Watson set the stage for behaviorism, which soon rose to dominate psychology. Watson went a little
overboard in that paper. But on the good side, he attracted many enthusiastic followers, became the
national interest, made headlines in national newspapers, and was the subject of many articles in
popular periodicals. But then there were troubles that Watson s experiment wasn t considered

The Roles Of Monogatari
Male domination even in the world of literature is a widely accepted fact in the West prior to the
19th century. However, it does not purport the same phenomenon that women were not writing
literature in the far eastern Asian continents. Japan, being one of the many, produced literature
such as Japanese folk tales and fables locally known as monogatari. History even tells that men
were often disinterested on these, so, in cases when the author has not been identified or the
identity of the author has not survived the test of time, all archived monogatari may be attributed
to women. Incorporating all the western classics will take decades, centuries even and it is, quite
possibly, the main reason why a very few scholars and citizens are, more... Show more content on

One of the scenes in the second chapter is the famous rainy night conversation between Genji,
his closest male companion (the Secretary Captain), and two other men of little consequence as
they discuss women and past love affairs. The scene is immediately painted following the first
chapter, serving to introduce Genji s background and position him at the center of the narrative.
Hence, the rainy night conversation is essentially allows the readers to dig in further into the
plot. Frequently, in between conversations, direct allusions are made to women who will later
become significant figures in at least an episode if not in the entire tale. For example, the
Secretary Captain expresses the view that even among those known as Governors can be found
a house [which] boasts every luxury, and all those daughters of his, showered with love and
dazzling wealth, grow up in grand style. Girls like that often do better in palace service than you
might imagine (Tale of Genji 23). Readers who are familiar with the characters in the novel will
find themselves remembering Genji s Akashi Lady who goes on to do so well in Genji s service
that she achieves the unheard of (for a Governor s daughter) rank of birth mother to an

Goldilock s Requirements To Be A Habitable Zone
Habitable zones are regions around a star in which a planet can possess H2O (water) on their
surface. It is also one that can actually sustain life or water only in its liquid form. This definition
was based on the hypothesis that life may be existing on other planets around the universe other
than the Earth. Requirements to be a Habitable Zoneis the star around the planetor region must
survive long enough for the planet to develop life and that the other planets in that region have the
proper distance from its star so that the planet could have water remain as a liquid. For example,
the Earth!
Our Earth so far is probably the only planet we know 100% that is a habitable planet. What makes
Earth habitable is its precise distance from out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are 3 planets Mars, Venus, and Mercury that are closest to being Earth like and are called
Terrestrial planets. Mars today is not a habitable planet for humans to make a living on but is
told by scientist and astronomers that on a day in the future it may be. The future for Mars
would be dependent heavily on local Red Planet Resources, such near surface water and glaciers.
Evidence starting in the 21st Century have evidence building that liquid water may be flowing
through seasonally at some of the Martian sites, which could prove life up there as all others
predicted. So until further more test is done yearly; Mars, for now, is not yet habitable but may
become one soon yet to be known. Switching to Venus, the planet that is most Earth like.
Astronomers believe that Venus may have been a habitable planet once is the past (about 2
billion in our Solar Systems history). This prediction came from the founding of Venus having a
crushed Carbon Dioxide atmosphere that is 90 times thicker than our Earth s, and there is also no
water vapor. But there has been a discovery that Venus had a shallow liquid state water ocean.
Recent studies have shown that the speed of a planet s orbit can determine if a planet is habitable.
Venus, in this case, was to have a slow orbit rate since it had the thickest atmosphere. Astronomers
in the past have recorded that Venus had more dryland in the past than Earth does

Columbia River Tribe
For more than 10,000 years the Native American people of the Columbia River region,
specifically the Cayuse, Walla Walla and Umatilla Indian tribes, migrated in a yearly cyclical
pattern. The tribes would travel from the lowlands of the Columbia River to the highlands in the
Blue Mountains in search of safety, shelter, food, opportunities for trade and resources of energy.
The most abundant sources of food included elk, deer, salmon, berries and roots. Each of the
aforementioned food sources were spread throughout different locales and thus required a continued
pattern of movement, place to place from season to season, to collect each target food.
Accumulated meats, berries and roots would be stored for the year to come, and to last through...

their native homeland to the United States government, and in return were promised the right to

reservation (see Image 1: Boundary of the CTUIR), giving them continued access to their ancestral
land, which is currently recognized as southeastern Washington and northeastern Oregon. The tribes
were provided a reservation of 510,000 acres on which they were to live. Both the natives and The
United States government negotiated the terms and recognized the sovereign authority of those
involved. Congress later ratified the treaty on March 8th, 1859. Today, the CTUIR maintains a

Empire era ships are capable of traveling hundreds of thousands, or even millions of times the
speed of light; compared to Federation era ships, which max out at Warp 9.985, the Empire
clearly has the Federation beat. However, not many people think to question the maneuverability
of either universe s ships. While most ships in Star Wars are faster at interstellar travel,
hyperdrive propulsion occurs by diverting vessels into the sub dimension of Hyperspace. While
it may be faster than flying at normal speeds through space, Hyperspace is essentially a spacial
slide. The Empire s ships cannot maneuver while using hyperdrive; to make course corrections,
they first would have to exit hyperspace, recalculate their course trajectory, and then re engage
hyperdrive. Therefore, the Empire would be unable to engage in combat maneuvers at velocities
faster than light, and would be sitting ducks while adjusting their course. Federation vessels on the
other hand, are capable of maneuvers at warp speed. Just as important, if not moreso, their
weaponry is capable of being deployed and traveling at warp speed as

American Marriage Culture
It can be argued that one of the most important aspects of culture are marriages. The union of two
people to symbolize the propagation of a system of belief and ideas passed down which become
inherent to their identity. Almost every culture has some type of marriage ritual in which unite two
different families and create an integral bond. Yet the similarities in the placed importance of
marriage traditions are not the same across the board, and their traditions also differ as well. Each

and already made a distinction. Two words kept coming up for arab and chinese marriages
which were, honor and stigma. While all three had an exchange of some sort between families
arab and chinese seemed more of a transaction of honor and stigma while, American marriages
were more of a romantic transaction and take on the idea of marriages. (Philip) stated This is the
image of the date as an outing to a restaurant, a movie theater, or a romantic getaway at the
seaside or at a luxurious (and romantic) hotel . What this means is the extent of what americans
go through to emphasize the romantic aspect of a relationship. As stated in (Alean Al Krenawi
Stephen O. Jackson) compared and contrasted the honor and stigma that arab men and women
should bring to their families when getting married and what they should uphold. For example,
the honor of a man in arab culture is being able to keep his family free of sin and dishonor, while
the honor of a woman is being a pure woman and always doing the right thing to keep the family
happy. (Ho) stated for a woman to bring honor to her family in chinese culture she must follow
these three rules follow one s father when young, follow one s husband when married, follow one
s son when old. While many American marriages still had a sense of what one can bring to the

The Effect Of Oxygen Deficiency On Lake Ontario
Introduction Background:
The focus of this research project is to identify if there is an oxygen deficiency in lake Ontario
through the cause of rising phosphorus levels and effects of climate change. Measuring the
dissolved oxygen levels in lakes, rivers and oceans is crucial to determine if the water quality is
affecting the organisms in its ecosystem. Low dissolved oxygen levels will have an effect on the
organism s like fish and other species that require oxygen to breathe that are part of that particular
ecosystem. If the dissolved oxygen is not substantial enough it can severely deplete the quality of
life of the water body in which case the water body can be considered dead . This process is called
eutrophication. The focus for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lake Ontario is the 14th largest lake in the world with a water surface area of over 18,900 kmВІ
[Schindler, 2008]. However it is the most polluted lake of all the five Great Lakes [Schindler,
2008]. From industrial runoff, urbanization due to high population density around the lake as well
as agriculture runoff, there are many sources of nutrient pollution around Lake Ontario. With the
nutrient pollution of the lake in this case I am focusing on phosphorus concentration causing the
lake to become anoxic. This can also be seen as the Eutrophication of lake Ontario due to
phosphorus levels. Eutrophication occurs when there is a high concentration of phosphorus in a
body of water. As a result aquatic vegetation and phytoplankton levels increase in the body of
water, also known as an algal bloom [Aquafor Beech, 2005]. Then, when algae decay s, it
consumes oxygen from the water body, resulting in the body of water to become oxygen deficient.
This makes the biotic components in the lake, which include fish and shellfish, difficult to survive
because of the low dissolved oxygen levels making the phosphorus levels of the lake a limiting
factor. Climate Change is the long term alteration in climate of a particular location or region or for
the entire planet (Shrestha, 2014). The other concept that people get confused with climate change
is global warming. Global warming is an effect of climate change, it

The Concept Of Good And Bad Strategy
The Concept of Good and Bad Strategy The concept of strategy is a fundamental issue for an
organization. A successful organization mostly depends on how much good strategy they have.
When there is good strategy, it can take the company to achieve its goal and vision quite
smoothly. However, if there is bad strategy, the company can be in dangerous situation.
Sometimes it can collapse as well. But good strategy is not only about vision and goals; it is a
force of challenges that need to be achieved foe an organization. From Rumelt s point of view, he
mentions that Good strategy should be simply manages to meet the challenges an organization
faces. It is not about achieving goals but moving the organization forward. Good strategy is all...

But it is not for granted which action could be the main element of good strategy. So the
organization should work on them and find out which is the best strategy. Secondly, a guiding
policy is much needed for the good strategy to work out. Good guiding policy resolves the
diagnosed obstacles. Without a good diagnosis guiding policies cannot be implemented. After
taking action on at least on one phase it can be said if the guiding policy can be implanted or
not. Guiding policy often removes obstacles by sources of advantage. A guiding policy creates
advantage by anticipating action and reaction of others, by reducing complexity and ambiguity of
the situation (Rumelt, p85). Thirdly, a set of coherent actions should be carrying out the guiding
policy. Guiding policy and coherent actions are dependent on each other. The steps within the
kernel of strategy should be coherent. They should be coordinated with each other to make the
most of the action. By coherence of kernels strategy can solve out specific challenges. Sources of
Power Good strategy can be achieved by using sources of power like leverage, proximate
objectives, design, focus etc. a good strategy can enhance right focus on mind, energy and action.
This focus leads to outcomes that are source of power leverage. Leverage is correlated with three
facts anticipation, pivot points and concentration. Anticipation is looking onto other s behavior,
policies, preferences, and

Nuclear Fusion Vs Nuclear Radiation
Each atom of a particle element the majority of the time look and behave the same as any other
atom of the same element. When comparing two atoms of Carbon for example, they both contain
the same number of protons and electrons. In this case the both contain 6 protons. The equal
number of protons and neutrons in this atomcreates stability in its nucleus. The two atoms of
carbon also have the same mass, approximately 12 amu, but like all things in nature there are
exceptions. A different atom of carbon can contain 8 neutrons in its nucleus for every 6 protons.
When an atom of an element contains more or less neutrons to protons an unstable environment is
now created in the atom which is called a radioactive isotope. The loss of a neutronin the nucleus of
an atom emits energy which can also be referred to as radiation. What makes these radioactive
isotopes so different between stable atoms is the energy that is released through the loss of the
extra neutron in the atom in an attempt to stabilize. This energy that is released in this everyday
phenomenon has become quiet helpful as we find uses for it in our everyday lives. Radiation has
quickly become on the most influential aspects of modern medicine. One aspect of medicine that

How Did The Us Influence Latin America
The United States has been an important part in the history of all of Latin America. Many times, the
United States influenced Latin American countries with its economic, political, and military power.
The United States looked down at Latin America as its backyard, constantly using its influence to
benefit from the land and supporting dictators in the region. The United Statesused this power to
effectively influence Latin America for decades, even when the U.S. faced communism as a new
threat during the Cold War. The United States feared the communist influence of the Soviet Unionin
countries like El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Guatemala, because the evil empire s plan for world
domination included infiltrating Latin America. Even though these... Show more content on

Death squads and disappearances caused mental anguish to so many citizens of countries
plagued with war all over Latin America, just like Lupe and her family. Gabriel Garcia Marquez
poses the question, why could social justice not be a goal for Latin America? Countries in Latin
America like Nicaragua, Guatemala, EL Salvador, Argentina, and Chile were striving for social
justice. Some even had democratic elections and were on the right path but the fear of
communism that plagued the United States since the beginning of the Cold War halted any of the
progress Latin American countries could have even made. Any sort of progress, whether it was
farmers and peasants like JosГ© forming unions and organizations fighting for human rights, or
democratically elected presidents like Arbenz or Allende that fought for agrarian reform and
nationalization of resources was completely shut down either directly or indirectly by the United
States. Social justice was definitely a goal for Latin America. The region is not filled with
savages that can t grasp democracy; even Marquez rejected the idea that violence and pain was the
natural condition of the region. The United States halted and set aside any progress for social
justice in Latin America because it feared losing its powerful influence in the

Donald Trump first launched his campaign in Spanish in which he tried to gain Spanish supporters
but in a following speech he blatantly changed course and insulted Mexicans when he said that
Mexico has many problems and they are bringing it to the United States. He later went on to say that

Roof Replacement
Determining whether or not a home needs a new roof is not difficult. Homeowners simply have to
look for clues that alert them to issues. When it comes to Roof Replacement Ft Worth residents
just have to look for these clues, call in a professional company such as Greystone Roofing to
check out the roof. They can inspect the roofto see if an entire roof is needed, or if the roof that s on
the roof can be repaired.
Repair or replace
If a few shingles have blown off during a storm, or if there s a small leak in one area, replacing is
an economical option. It also makes the most sense. After all, why incur the expense of installing a
new roof if there are only a couple of shingles that need to be replaced.
In some cases one section of a roof may be damaged. Perhaps, a tree limb has fallen on an area of
the roof which resulted in damage to 1/4 of the roof. This is another time when repairing may be
the more favorable option. However, if the roof is older and will need replacing soon many
homeowners opt for Roof Replacement Ft Worth homeowners choose replacement over repair on
older roofs in order to save money in the long run. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this is far from the only sign. After storms, or windy days look around the property for
shingles that have blown off. Look at the roof and inspect it for signs of wear and tear. Look for
rot, mold, and mildew. Also check the gutters for pieces of shingles, or shingle dust. Take a good
look at how the shingles lay on the roof. Buckling shingles, or those that are curling are an
indication that they need to be replaced.
The roof provides an important layer of protection to any home, be sure to keep it in tip top shape.

Substance Dualism Analysis
Most famously advocated by RenГ© Descartes, substance dualism is an intuitive doctrine holding
that minds, which are essentially thinking and consist of mental substance, and bodies, which
necessarily have extension and are made of material substance, are ontologically separate entities.
As the mental and material have entirely different natures, a mindcannot be equivalent to a body
and human beings, therefore, must be mixtures of the two substances. Despite lacking properties in
common, minds and bodies are connected through the capacity of each to causally affect the other
(Kim 34). However, regardless of how commonsensical and attractive this view may initially appear,
Descartes and subsequent dualists have all contended with a multitude of complications
surrounding mental causation.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If conceiving of the mind as a substance independent of the physical substance of the body results
in the mind being causally secluded, then the mind has no important explanatory role and there is
no compelling reason to be a substance dualist (50). In this paper I will first describe a few
strengths of dualism and explicate the pairing problem that is raised against it. Aferward, I will
evaluate the impact of Kim s objection and argue, ultimately, that mental substance cannot feasibly
be connected to material substance in the way necessary for causal interaction without appeal to

The Social Effects Of Prohibition
Prohibition (the Volstead act) was a legal prevention under the 18th amendment to the constitution
to prohibit manufacturing, transporting and selling alcohol beverages in the U.S. during 1920s.
The temperance movement argued for a long time that more people addicted alcohol and increased
physical violence when they got drunk. (increase intoxication) The U.S. government expected the
prohibition to be a solution to social problems, implemented for the country s well being. On the
other hand, prohibition had negatively impacts on increasing the organized crime rate because there

both of the company choose the same topics, the method they used in motivation and managing
work teams are different from each other. However, both of the company still have the same
objectives which are enhancing individual creativity and to provide stimulating environments.
a) Comparison in motivation
First of all, Redgate Company and Apple Inc. uses the method intrinsic motivation in motivating
their employees. The Redgate Company uses the intrinsic motivation by issuing a challenge
called Coding by the Sea to their employees. The idea of the challenge was proposed in

The Democratic Party Split Of 1860 Over The Slavery Issue
The Democratic Party split in 1860 over the slavery issue. The Democrats from the Northern states
were against slavery or at least the expansion of slavery in the new territories while the Democrats
from the Southern states wanted to preserve slavery in their states and were for extending it in the
new territories. On April 23, 1860, the Democrats met in Charleston, South Carolina with the goals
of finalizing their platform and nominating a presidential candidate. In the North the Democratic
candidate was the moderate Stephen Douglas. Voters in the South chose John Breckenridge, a
defender of Southern rights . The Southern Democrats hated Douglas, although he was not
completely opposed to slavery in the West, he wanted to limit the institution s use in the territories,
by initiating popular sovereignty. A key play by Lincoln in the Lincoln Douglas Debates in 1858
helped the Southerners realize this. Because the Democrats were split between different candidates
and the Republican Party was united behind Abraham Lincoln, they won more electoral votes.
Therefore, Lincoln became president.
Abraham Lincoln was the first Republican president. It was his election that convinced South
Carolina to secede from the Union. Though not an abolitionist, Lincoln was an opponent of slavery
and determined to use all means at his disposal to stop its spread. Because the Republican Party
was an anti slavery party, South Carolina, along with several other states, saw the election of

Essay about The Life of Bob Marley
The Life of Bob Marley
While reading Catch a Fire I discovered many things about Bob Marley and his spiritual influence
on the world. Not only just making records, Marley spoke to his people through his songs and took
advantage of the opportunities given to him as a musician.
Born on February 6, 1945, Robert Nesta Marley grew up in a small village in Jamaica called Nine
Miles, where he would shape his personality and early beliefs. His father Norval Marley, a white
Jamaican and a Captain in the Army, would also become inspirational to young Bob. When Bob
was only 16 he produced his first record in Kingston, and in 1963 the original Wailers were formed,

In Jamaica at the time Bob was viewed as a mystic and prophet, and was becoming the symbol
for a nation. Seeking re election the Prime Minister asked Bob Marley to stage a free concert on
the same day as the National election, trying to lock up the support of the Marley followers and in
turn the election. This move however resulted in an attempt to end Marley s life.
On the evening of December 3, a number of gunmen arrived at Bob s house on 56 Hope Road
and shot Bob, his wife Rita, and his manager. The gunmen were thought to be the henchmen of
the opposition leader Edward Seaga. Luckily nobody was killed and Bob went ahead with the
planned concert rebelliously appearing with his arm in a sling. The following year during a
massive European concert Bob Marley was diagnosed with melanoma cancer in his big toe, the
result of a neglected football injury.
Later in Jamaica, Bob once again received a request from the political leaders to perform a peace
concert in his native land. Not phased by earlier tragedy he agreed and assembled one of the
greatest concerts ever, the One Love peace concert. Here was where he made history when leaders
from the two opposition parties were persuaded to

procedures needed to be done at each task. The atmosphere is different at each task, considering
that desk duty is more laid back while rounds consisted of being more alert with the surrounding
area. While each are polar opposites of one another, they are both crucial when working as an RA.
I began my shadowing at the front desk and I was surprised to hear that not all RAshave to work the
front desk. I always thought that this role was part of being an RA, and that every RA had to work
it. As I continued to do my shadowing, I learned about the overall standards that the front desk has
to maintain, from sorting mail to doing lockouts to logging... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

She provided great insight to all the questions that I asked and put her own personal spin on
each question to make it more heartfelt. She drilled hard on knowing your residents and seeing
what they enjoy most. She even supplied me with key tactics I can use when I become an RA in
the fall to determine who my residents truly are. However, there were a few questions that she
was unable to ask, and that was understandable because they were broad topics, such as what I
can expect with my unit at the beginning of the year? . The best answer she provided me was
that it truly depends on who exactly is in my unit and what each individual s personality is like.
Lastly, she also connected to her personal development as an RA and how that has affected her
greatly with her academic studies as well as caused her to become and RA. Her sharing her
insight on her background on being an RA really opened my eyes about becoming an RA in the
fall. With the information being administered to me, I have a better understanding on the roles and
responsibilities an RA has to

Touching Spirit Bear Cole Matthews Character Traits
Cole Matthews Character Profile Final Copy
In the book Touching Spirit Bear, Cole Matthews is the main character. I have learned about
Cole in the book Touching Spirit Bear. I will provide facts and my own opinions about Cole s
attitude and his disposition. You will learn many things from my character profile about Cole.
Cole Matthews is a fifteen year old teenager from Minneapolis. He is a baby faced person with
dirty blonde hair, and he is considered big for his age. Cole is a generally rude person and he
doesn t care what other people think about him. For example, on page three in the book Touching
Spirit Bear states, Cole Matthews knelt defiantly... Cole might not seem ... Show more content on

Also, he doesn t trust anyone who isn t afraid of him. For example, on page four, the book
clarifies, He didn t trust anyone who wasn t afraid of him. As you can see, Cole is not the nicest
person in the world. Cole Matthews has been in trouble with the law for half of his life. An
example from the text is (page five) ...who has been in trouble with the law half his life. Many
people in the story think that he should get tried as an adult and spend some time in jail so he
doesn t hurt anyone else. For example, on page forty six, Peter s lawyer says, That boy is
dangerous, she said. Next time he might kill someone. This Circle Justice has it s place, but I
oppose any plan that does not isolate Cole Matthews. Many characters in the book think that
Cole should have all the things that he s done to happen to him. In the book, Touching Spirit
Bear, on page fifty, Peter says, I think someone should smash Cole s head against a sidewalk so
he knows how it feels. In conclusion, Cole is not afraid to hurt people who aren t afraid of him.
Cole is not polite to anyone around him, even if they are a figure of importance. For example, on
page four Edwin says, Go put your clothes on inside out, he ordered. Get real, old man. Many
characters in the book Touching Spirit Bear view Cole as a nuisance and pain in the rear.
According to the text, on page twenty one Garvey states, I don t invest time in losers.

An Analysis Of Maya Angelou And Alice Walker
Maya Angelou and Alice Walker are two well known contemporary African American writers.
Although both women are from different generations they share some of the same qualities and
experiences. Both women used their past experiences of tragedy and hardship as a stepping stool
for growth by turning that pain into what now are famous stories and poems. For most writers,
majority of their work stem from their own experiences, and for both Alice and Maya a great deal
of their works regarded the dilemmas many African Americanpeople faced during that time such as
prejudice and discrimination.
They were each so passionate about equal rights for colored people that they got involved with the
civil rights movement. Maya Angelou participated in the movement in the 1960s by touring the
country with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr as he prepared for the Poor People s Campaign . Alice
Walker participated by writing a novel in 1976 called Meridian, which is known as the meditation
on the modern civil rights movement. Both women also had strong views about equality for
African American women, and soon became known as Feminist. They used their platform as
writers to express the challenges many black women faced, as well as give women like them a
voice by promoting gender equality.
Although Maya Angelou and Alice Walker share these similarities, there are still unique facts that
separate these writers apart. Marguerite Annie Johnson, also known as Maya Angelou, was born on

Millerite Movement in the Second Great Awakening of...
The Millerite Movement happened in the context of this nation s Second Great Awakening: a
religious revival that carried the country into reform movements. The Second Great Awakening had
its start in Connecticut in the 1790s and grew to its height in the 1830s to 1840s.[1] During this
time in the United States history, churches experienced a more complete freedom from
governmental control which opened the doors of opportunity to a great spiritual awakening in the
American people.[2] This awakening focused on areas of both religious and social issues of that
era which were important to the religious movements and the nation as a whole. The Second Great
Awakening was driven by these issues which included an increase in the evils... Show more content

The Millerite Movement is best known for its prediction of Christ s coming to be 1843 and later
revised to October 22, 1844. The very core of this movement was the anticipation for the soon
coming of Christ. They were not the only group to look forward to this event but it became of
paramount interest to the Millerites, as they had a set date for Christ s second return.[8] As the
Second Great Awakening grew more mindful of Christ s second coming, so did the Millerite
Movement. The story of William Miller is one which climaxes in his desire to share about Christ s
immediate return and the Great Disappointment. The result is the Adventist church we have today.
The Seventh day Adventist Church today still reflects the roots it had in the Second Great
Awakening. The founding principles that the Millerites discovered as they broke away from the
mainstream Christianity of their time, are still a part of what we believe today. The Adventist
faith holds that anyone who comes to Christ is a new creation and can find salvation.[9] There is
no predestination and once saved does not assure that we are always saved. But no matter what,
anyone can come to God for His gift of salvation.[10] Just like the second coming of Christ was an
important part of the Second Great Awakening and a key foundation of the Millerite Movement,
Adventists have in their name the hope of His

Black Holes Research Papers
Black holes are an interesting phenomenon, but if they get close enough to Earth, Earth would be
gone in a matter of seconds. We know that they use a strong gravitational pull, but where does the
matter go? How are they formed? How do we know they even exist?
Black holes are formed by an interesting phenomenon. When stars collapse on themselves, they
create what we know as black holes. This collapse can cause a giant supernova, which can blast a
part of the star into space. This largest black holes astronomers believe, were created when the Big
Bang happened. This means black holes grow over time.
There are three main types of black holes primordial, stellar, as well as supermassive. Primordial
black holes are smallest of the three. This means they can t suck in as big of objects as the other
two. These are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They can t directly use a telescope to see black holes. Scientist can study by missing matter on
other objects. Since black holes suck objects in if there is missing a part we know a black hole was
there. Also by the size of the missing matter, we can tell if the black hole is a primordial, stellar,
and supermassive type. Luckily it s unlikely that black holes will swallow Earth. If a black hole
swallows the sun, then the black hole would take the sun s place. The black hole would take up
the mass of the sun, meaning the planets would continue to orbit. But, this time the planets would
be orbiting a black hole. Albert Einstein first thought of black holes. He thought of the general
theory. The person thought who thought of the name black hole was named John Wheeler. The
first black holes was discovered in 1971. They have been showing up ever since. Black holes can
be scary to think about, but amazing at the same time. The fact that they can have such a heavy
gravitational pull that not even light can escape is fascinating. Luckily we will probaly destroy
Earth before a black hole eats it

Stress Management Techniques Analysis
The four techniques that I used to help manage my stress were art therapy, time management
/scheduling, social support and doing a hobby to take my mind off of stressors. I was hesitant to
practice these techniques because I feel like I am able to manage my stress well anyways, but as I
started consciously using these techniques, I realized that my mindwas a lot clearer and I did not
feel as overwhelmed. I was already doing these techniques on a smaller scale, but when I decided
to go all out and focus on using them, I realized that I was not that good at managing my stress, I
was just used to having this stress in my life.
Benefits
Some benefits that I received when I practiced the stress management techniques were that I was
able to worry less and have a clearer mind. I was able to spend my time taking care of what causing

Before this semester, I thought I was pretty good at managing stress but these techniques showed
me that I was not as good as I thought I was. For the first couple of weeks I did not use any of the
techniques because I thought that it was pointless and that I did not need them. I eventually
decided to try them out because I need to do it for this assignment and I figured that it could not
be any more hurtful than helpful and it did not take too much effort. The first technique that I
practiced was art therapy and I came to love it. I taught myself how to watercolor paint and now
I can paint for hours at a time. When I paint I focus on what I am doing and all of my worries
escape my mind. I am so focused that my mind does not have room to think about the stressors
and it is so relaxing. Painting is now a hobby and something that I can do to relieve stress. If I had
not started practicing art therapy then I might not have discovered my love for watercolor. I will
definitely continue to use art therapy to manage my

Hawaiian dance club that uses Polynesian moves. They use these moves to create dances to

  • 2. The Chicago Teachers Union And Chicago Public Schools Georgis, Donnell, Mike, Moose For the second time in almost 4 years, over 350,000 Chicago Public School Students may not be able to go to school because of the CTU Strike that is currently in progress today (The Washington Post). The issue between the Chicago Teachers Union and Chicago Public Schools has not been solved yet due to disagreements about the income received. The Chicago Teachers Union has made offers to school administrations; however, the responses were not in their favor. The union has been in progress of agreeing on a contract since November 2011, [and the strike that occurred at the time] was the first to hit the Windy City in 25 years (Liebelson). The issue must have erupted due to a misconception or a realization of problems occurring. Chicago Teachers Union choosing to strike does not affect charter schools since they are not a part of Chicago Public Schools. The issue of school strikes can be fixed by increasing the budgets and providing useful resources to teachers in order to improve the level of education. The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) Strike in 2012 affected every single Chicago Public School and their Students in 2012. The strike affected about 600 public schools which is over 350, 000 students. The CTU began negotiating their contract with CPS in November of 2011, but their demands were not met. Since the negotiating did not solve the issue, the Chicago Teachers Union chose to organize a strike for the first time in Chicago in 25 years. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay Comparing The Book Of Job And Aesop s Fables The Book of Job and Aesop s Fables, despite their stark differences in characters, style, and rhetoric, both share similar themes, including love, loss, and the importance of lending a helping hand. The Shepard and the Lion, demonstrates how imperative it is to take the time to assist others. In the fable, the Shepard removes a thorn from the lion s paw. Later on the Shepard was falsely accused of a crime and at the next public games...thrown to beasts, (p.626). However, the lion recognizes the Shepard and in the end, the lion is spared and the man set free. When one takes time to helps those in need, it is likely that others will be willing to do the same when you are in need. Although, this lesson is not plainly stated in the Book of Job, the actions of Job indicate the importance of helping others, even if they seem undeserving.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The men conclude, Job must have committed an act(s) worthy of punishment. Zophar the Naamathite, implies Job is deserving of a punishment greater than what he has received, (11:1 12). Once God spoke to Job, he asked that Job pray for his friends (p.217), Job obliged. Rather than condemn his friends, as they did to him, Job prayed for them, hinting that he cares about them, as well as validating his selflessness. Even though Job lost everything, including his home, family, and health, he continues to love and worship God. Love, is not as prominent of a theme in the fables analyzed for the course, nevertheless, in The Wolf in Sheep s Clothing, one possible lesson is, love yourself as you are and do not try to be someone that you are not. However, a strong theme seen throughout both is loss or rather the idea that one has to lose everything in order to appreciate what you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was created on October 7, 1996 after he created his popular Australian channel Sky News. It was developed in the United States and 10 million households were able to watch it after 24 hours of being launched. It was created so that people in the United States could be able to watch the news on one channel that broadcasted all over the U.S. The Fox News channel increased in 2000 with about 56 million people watching the channel and is still increasing each year. Rupert eventually turns the company over for 250 million dollars which is way more than he put in to start the channel. • 5. Socrates Unexamined Life Socrates theory of the unexamined life would argue that that a life spent without self examination was a life that was wasted. Socrates believed that a person should question their motives and what they valued in life. He believed a life spent pursuing material gain or power was a life that was not a life well spent. Instead Socratesbelieved that a person should constantly be looking inward. They should question their motives and better themselves by correcting any motives or actions that are not pure. To Socrates the noblest pursuit in life was the quest for knowledge. He wanted people to question what they knew and search for answers for that which they did not know. While I agree with most of Socrates ideas on the unexamined life I do not agree that an unexamined life is wasted. I agree with Socrates that we should constantly be looking to better ourselves by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are several reasons for my position on this. First, it is very possible for a person to live an unselfish life without self examination. For example we have no idea if Florence Nightingale spent time examining her own life. Yet, even if she spent no time on self examination I believe she still would have been a great person. I believe some people are motivated by a desire to help others that does not require them to examine their own lives to motivate them to do good. While conversely it is possible for an evil person to understand what their motivations and desires are, while doing nothing at all to better themselves. If self examination does anything it maximizes a person s potential. An unexamined life can be considered a full life that accomplished many great things, but it is likely that if the person had spent time examining their life they could have accomplished even more. I think it would be better to say that an unexamined life is one that did not reach its full ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. A Clockwork Orange Anthony Burgess A Clockwork Orange is a dystopian novel set in an oppressive, futuristic state. Published in 1962, A Clockwork Orange is an extremely intense, graphic, and, at times, horrifying novel. A reader begins to question their own values as they become numb and desensitized to the violence at hand. Both behaviorism and free will is occurring throughout A Clockwork Orange. A Clockwork Orange brings up a question, how much control of our own free will do we actually have? Do we really control our own lives, or are they subject to the cards we are dealt? In A Clockwork Orange, behavioranalysis and free will are displayed. Human nature has long since been in question. Alex is an extremely interesting character. He is a... Its theoretical goal is the prediction and control of behavior. Introspection forms no essential part of its methods, nor is the scientific value of its data dependent upon the readiness with which they lend themselves to interpretation in terms of consciousness (Harzem 6) Watson set the stage for behaviorism, which soon rose to dominate psychology. Watson went a little overboard in that paper. • 7. The Roles Of Monogatari Male domination even in the world of literature is a widely accepted fact in the West prior to the 19th century. However, it does not purport the same phenomenon that women were not writing literature in the far eastern Asian continents. Japan, being one of the many, produced literature such as Japanese folk tales and fables locally known as monogatari. History even tells that men were often disinterested on these, so, in cases when the author has not been identified or the identity of the author has not survived the test of time, all archived monogatari may be attributed to women. Incorporating all the western classics will take decades, centuries even and it is, quite possibly, the main reason why a very few scholars and citizens are, more... Hence, the rainy night conversation is essentially allows the readers to dig in further into the plot. Frequently, in between conversations, direct allusions are made to women who will later become significant figures in at least an episode if not in the entire tale. For example, the Secretary Captain expresses the view that even among those known as Governors can be found a house [which] boasts every luxury, and all those daughters of his, showered with love and dazzling wealth, grow up in grand style. Girls like that often do better in palace service than you might imagine (Tale of Genji 23). • 8. Goldilock s Requirements To Be A Habitable Zone Habitable zones are regions around a star in which a planet can possess H2O (water) on their surface. It is also one that can actually sustain life or water only in its liquid form. This definition was based on the hypothesis that life may be existing on other planets around the universe other than the Earth. Requirements to be a Habitable Zoneis the star around the planetor region must survive long enough for the planet to develop life and that the other planets in that region have the proper distance from its star so that the planet could have water remain as a liquid. For example, the Earth! Our Earth so far is probably the only planet we know 100% that is a habitable planet. What makes Earth habitable is its precise distance from out ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are 3 planets Mars, Venus, and Mercury that are closest to being Earth like and are called Terrestrial planets. Mars today is not a habitable planet for humans to make a living on but is told by scientist and astronomers that on a day in the future it may be. The future for Mars would be dependent heavily on local Red Planet Resources, such near surface water and glaciers. Evidence starting in the 21st Century have evidence building that liquid water may be flowing through seasonally at some of the Martian sites, which could prove life up there as all others predicted. So until further more test is done yearly; Mars, for now, is not yet habitable but may become one soon yet to be known. Switching to Venus, the planet that is most Earth like. Astronomers believe that Venus may have been a habitable planet once is the past (about 2 billion in our Solar Systems history). This prediction came from the founding of Venus having a crushed Carbon Dioxide atmosphere that is 90 times thicker than our Earth s, and there is also no water vapor. But there has been a discovery that Venus had a shallow liquid state water ocean. Recent studies have shown that the speed of a planet s orbit can determine if a planet is habitable. Venus, in this case, was to have a slow orbit rate since it had the thickest atmosphere. Astronomers in the past have recorded that Venus had more dryland in the past than Earth does ... The most abundant sources of food included elk, deer, salmon, berries and roots. While most ships in Star Wars are faster at interstellar travel, hyperdrive propulsion occurs by diverting vessels into the sub dimension of Hyperspace. While it may be faster than flying at normal speeds through space, Hyperspace is essentially a spacial slide. The Empire s ships cannot maneuver while using hyperdrive; to make course corrections, they first would have to exit hyperspace, recalculate their course trajectory, and then re engage hyperdrive. Therefore, the Empire would be unable to engage in combat maneuvers at velocities faster than light, and would be sitting ducks while adjusting their course. The Effect Of Oxygen Deficiency On Lake Ontario Introduction Background: The focus of this research project is to identify if there is an oxygen deficiency in lake Ontario through the cause of rising phosphorus levels and effects of climate change. Measuring the dissolved oxygen levels in lakes, rivers and oceans is crucial to determine if the water quality is affecting the organisms in its ecosystem. Low dissolved oxygen levels will have an effect on the organism s like fish and other species that require oxygen to breathe that are part of that particular ecosystem. If the dissolved oxygen is not substantial enough it can severely deplete the quality of life of the water body in which case the water body can be considered dead . This process is called eutrophication. The focus for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lake Ontario is the 14th largest lake in the world with a water surface area of over 18,900 kmВІ [Schindler, 2008]. However it is the most polluted lake of all the five Great Lakes [Schindler, 2008]. From industrial runoff, urbanization due to high population density around the lake as well as agriculture runoff, there are many sources of nutrient pollution around Lake Ontario. With the nutrient pollution of the lake in this case I am focusing on phosphorus concentration causing the lake to become anoxic. This can also be seen as the Eutrophication of lake Ontario due to phosphorus levels. Eutrophication occurs when there is a high concentration of phosphorus in a body of water. As a result aquatic vegetation and phytoplankton levels increase in the body of water, also known as an algal bloom [Aquafor Beech, 2005]. Then, when algae decay s, it consumes oxygen from the water body, resulting in the body of water to become oxygen deficient. This makes the biotic components in the lake, which include fish and shellfish, difficult to survive because of the low dissolved oxygen levels making the phosphorus levels of the lake a limiting factor. Climate Change is the long term alteration in climate of a particular location or region or for the entire planet (Shrestha, 2014). The other concept that people get confused with climate change is global warming. Global warming is an effect of climate change, it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The Concept Of Good And Bad Strategy The Concept of Good and Bad Strategy The concept of strategy is a fundamental issue for an organization. A successful organization mostly depends on how much good strategy they have. When there is good strategy, it can take the company to achieve its goal and vision quite smoothly. However, if there is bad strategy, the company can be in dangerous situation. Sometimes it can collapse as well. But good strategy is not only about vision and goals; it is a force of challenges that need to be achieved foe an organization. Good strategy is all... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But it is not for granted which action could be the main element of good strategy. So the organization should work on them and find out which is the best strategy. Secondly, a guiding policy is much needed for the good strategy to work out. Good guiding policy resolves the diagnosed obstacles. Without a good diagnosis guiding policies cannot be implemented. After taking action on at least on one phase it can be said if the guiding policy can be implanted or not. Guiding policy often removes obstacles by sources of advantage. A guiding policy creates advantage by anticipating action and reaction of others, by reducing complexity and ambiguity of the situation (Rumelt, p85). Thirdly, a set of coherent actions should be carrying out the guiding policy. Guiding policy and coherent actions are dependent on each other. The steps within the kernel of strategy should be coherent. They should be coordinated with each other to make the most of the action. By coherence of kernels strategy can solve out specific challenges. Sources of Power Good strategy can be achieved by using sources of power like leverage, proximate objectives, design, focus etc. a good strategy can enhance right focus on mind, energy and action. This focus leads to outcomes that are source of power leverage. Leverage is correlated with three facts anticipation, pivot points and concentration. Marina has allowed me to work alongside her for the duration of the internship, and I have seen many interesting cases ever since. Consequently, I have learned that there is a new classification of cases (SA) in addition to the previous three (A, B, and C) that requires special attention because it: 1) has an impact on the development of the law, 2) has broad deterrent impact (beyond parties), 3) has a direct impact on a large number of individuals, and 4) demonstrates the agency s role as the primary enforcer of civil rights. • 18. Nuclear Fusion Vs Nuclear Radiation Each atom of a particle element the majority of the time look and behave the same as any other atom of the same element. When comparing two atoms of Carbon for example, they both contain the same number of protons and electrons. In this case the both contain 6 protons. The equal number of protons and neutrons in this atomcreates stability in its nucleus. The two atoms of carbon also have the same mass, approximately 12 amu, but like all things in nature there are exceptions. A different atom of carbon can contain 8 neutrons in its nucleus for every 6 protons. When an atom of an element contains more or less neutrons to protons an unstable environment is now created in the atom which is called a radioactive isotope. The loss of a neutronin the nucleus of an atom emits energy which can also be referred to as radiation. What makes these radioactive isotopes so different between stable atoms is the energy that is released through the loss of the extra neutron in the atom in an attempt to stabilize. This energy that is released in this everyday phenomenon has become quiet helpful as we find uses for it in our everyday lives. Substance Dualism Analysis Most famously advocated by RenГ© Descartes, substance dualism is an intuitive doctrine holding that minds, which are essentially thinking and consist of mental substance, and bodies, which necessarily have extension and are made of material substance, are ontologically separate entities. As the mental and material have entirely different natures, a mindcannot be equivalent to a body and human beings, therefore, must be mixtures of the two substances. Despite lacking properties in common, minds and bodies are connected through the capacity of each to causally affect the other (Kim 34). The Democrats from the Northern states were against slavery or at least the expansion of slavery in the new territories while the Democrats from the Southern states wanted to preserve slavery in their states and were for extending it in the new territories. On April 23, 1860, the Democrats met in Charleston, South Carolina with the goals of finalizing their platform and nominating a presidential candidate. In the North the Democratic candidate was the moderate Stephen Douglas. Voters in the South chose John Breckenridge, a defender of Southern rights . The Southern Democrats hated Douglas, although he was not completely opposed to slavery in the West, he wanted to limit the institution s use in the territories, by initiating popular sovereignty. A key play by Lincoln in the Lincoln Douglas Debates in 1858 helped the Southerners realize this. Because the Democrats were split between different candidates and the Republican Party was united behind Abraham Lincoln, they won more electoral votes. Therefore, Lincoln became president. Abraham Lincoln was the first Republican president. It was his election that convinced South Carolina to secede from the Union. Many times, when people think of Mississippi, they look down on this state because it has a negative image in the past. It is true that a part of Mississippi s history is filled with violence, hate, and shame. At one time, Mississippi was a hub for slavery, then segregation, and then racism, and not all of those issues have been fully resolved to this day in 2015, but the state of Mississippi has come a long way since then. Mississippi may not be the most progressive state in the United States, but we have come a long way since then, and as time passes we are learning to grow. We are getting better with the way we... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mississippi was smack in the middle of the Civil War fighting for the confederate cause. Some of that heritage still lingers heavily today because the confederate flag still files at the state capital to this very day. This symbol of a failed attempt to permanently tear the country apart has been in the media a lot these days because of the recent shooting in South Carolina where a 21 year old white man killed nine people in a landmark historically black church. The gunman was represented by the confederate flag along with a couple of other flags that stood for white supremacy. The issue of whether or not to get rid of the flag is an issue that comes up from time to time in Mississippi, but lawmakers do not seem to want to get rid of it once and for all to end to controversy. The University of Mississippi also used the rebel flag as their symbol for a long time, but they finally realized a few years ago that it was too offensive to many of its students and supporters, so they banned it from all sporting events at the college. They also decided to ban colonel reb who was their mascot because he represented an image that made many people felt like was the image of a white southern plantation owner and slave owner even though many people from Mississippi and Ole Miss fans said he only represented what it is to be a southern gentleman from ... The atmosphere is different at each task, considering that desk duty is more laid back while rounds consisted of being more alert with the surrounding area. While each are polar opposites of one another, they are both crucial when working as an RA. I began my shadowing at the front desk and I was surprised to hear that not all RAshave to work the front desk. • 45. An Analysis Of Maya Angelou And Alice Walker Maya Angelou and Alice Walker are two well known contemporary African American writers. Although both women are from different generations they share some of the same qualities and experiences. Both women used their past experiences of tragedy and hardship as a stepping stool for growth by turning that pain into what now are famous stories and poems. For most writers, majority of their work stem from their own experiences, and for both Alice and Maya a great deal of their works regarded the dilemmas many African Americanpeople faced during that time such as prejudice and discrimination. They were each so passionate about equal rights for colored people that they got involved with the civil rights movement. Maya Angelou participated in the movement in the 1960s by touring the country with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr as he prepared for the Poor People s Campaign . Alice Walker participated by writing a novel in 1976 called Meridian, which is known as the meditation on the modern civil rights movement. Both women also had strong views about equality for African American women, and soon became known as Feminist. They used their platform as writers to express the challenges many black women faced, as well as give women like them a voice by promoting gender equality. Although Maya Angelou and Alice Walker share these similarities, there are still unique facts that separate these writers apart. The Millerite Movement happened in the context of this nation s Second Great Awakening: a religious revival that carried the country into reform movements. The Second Great Awakening had its start in Connecticut in the 1790s and grew to its height in the 1830s to 1840s.[1] During this time in the United States history, churches experienced a more complete freedom from governmental control which opened the doors of opportunity to a great spiritual awakening in the American people.[2] This awakening focused on areas of both religious and social issues of that era which were important to the religious movements and the nation as a whole. The Millerite Movement is best known for its prediction of Christ s coming to be 1843 and later revised to October 22, 1844. The very core of this movement was the anticipation for the soon coming of Christ. They were not the only group to look forward to this event but it became of paramount interest to the Millerites, as they had a set date for Christ s second return.[8] As the Second Great Awakening grew more mindful of Christ s second coming, so did the Millerite Movement. The story of William Miller is one which climaxes in his desire to share about Christ s immediate return and the Great Disappointment. The result is the Adventist church we have today. The Seventh day Adventist Church today still reflects the roots it had in the Second Great Awakening. The founding principles that the Millerites discovered as they broke away from the mainstream Christianity of their time, are still a part of what we believe today. The Adventist faith holds that anyone who comes to Christ is a new creation and can find salvation.[9] There is no predestination and once saved does not assure that we are always saved. But no matter what, anyone can come to God for His gift of salvation.[10] Just like the second coming of Christ was an important part of the Second Great Awakening and a key foundation of the Millerite Movement, Adventists have in their name the hope of His ... When stars collapse on themselves, they create what we know as black holes. This collapse can cause a giant supernova, which can blast a part of the star into space. This largest black holes astronomers believe, were created when the Big Bang happened. This means black holes grow over time. If a black hole swallows the sun, then the black hole would take the sun s place. The black hole would take up the mass of the sun, meaning the planets would continue to orbit. But, this time the planets would be orbiting a black hole. Albert Einstein first thought of black holes. He thought of the general theory. The person thought who thought of the name black hole was named John Wheeler. The first black holes was discovered in 1971. They have been showing up ever since.
