The Clinical, Serologic And Genetic Models
pCD. The clinical, serologic and genetic models were studied individually as well as in combination
to identify the model with the highest AUC.
RESULTS
Baseline Characteristics
One thousand seven hundred and twenty one CD patients were identified with mean disease
duration of 10.2 years (range, 4 months 51.5 years). Nine hundred and twenty six (53.8%) patients
were male (Table. 1). A majority of patients were Caucasian (93.1%) and 39% of the Caucasian
patients were Jewish.
Perianal Crohn s disease was identified in 524 patients (30.4%), constituting approximately one
third of the study cohort. When Montreal disease classification was applied; more than half the
patients (54.2%) exhibited complicated disease behavior; characterized by ... Show more content on

A family history of IBD among first degree relatives (OR 4.98 [3.30 7.46]; p 0.001) was also
associated with pCD, suggesting additional hereditary influences in the development of pCD.
Isolated small bowel disease conferred a protective effect on the development of pCD (OR 0.38
[0.28 0.52]; p 0.001) whereas colonic involvement was significantly associated with pCD (OR
1.35[1.04 1.75]; p = 0.03). To further clarify the association between pCD and colonic and small
bowel disease, we identified patients with any colonic or any small bowel disease and observed the
same pattern of a protective effect with any small bowel disease (OR 0.74 [0.57 0.96]; p =0.03) and
a significant association with any colonic disease (OR 2.55 [1.89 3.49]; p 0.001) for the presence
of pCD. Within the colon, distal colonic inflammation showed a strong association with pCD
(Table. 3) with a higher OR for pCD the more distal the site of disease involvement.
Patients with non stricturing and non penetrating behavior were less likely to develop pCD (OR
0.69 [0.56 0.85]; p = 0.001); whereas stricturing disease behavior was associated with pCD (OR
1.44[1.14 1.81]; p = 0.002). We did not find an association between internal penetrating disease and
pCD (Table 3). There was a statistically significant association between pCD and dermatologic
manifestations of CD, namely pyoderma gangrenosum and erythema nodosum (OR 2.03 [1.33

CCSF Case Study
This case has major implications in relation to higher education in California. The ACCJC was
instilling sanctions on colleges and causing their accreditation to be in jeopardy unless they
resolved them. If you lose your accreditation, state law prohibits them from receiving taxpayer
funds (SF GATE, 2013). In the case of CCSF, the school s closure would impact about 75,000
students and nearly 2,500 faculty and staff on 11 campuses throughout the city. The college
contributes about $300 million to the local economy every year, according to a recent study by San

Character Analysis of Yossarian in Catch 22
Yossarian is the main character of Catch 22, and one of just a few characters that get fleshed out
during the story. Yossarian represents many of the themes and ideas of Catch 22, and provides a
character that most people can sympathize with. Yossarian is continually worried about dying but
at the same time continues to fly his missions so someone else doesn t have to fly his for him.
Yossarianthinks he is sane while everyone else is crazy; however everyone else thinks the exact
opposite. He is also seen as different because of name, as nobody has heard it before. The battles
of life versus death and sanity versus insanity are some of the things that define Yossarian while he
himself represents the psyche of a soldier during war.
Yossarian is described as a big burley Assyrian man. His appearance makes him markedly
different from the rest of the people in his squadron and is one of the ways that he is seen as an
outsider by the rest of the squadron. In addition to his appearance, his name also makes him
stand out, as it is completely different from everyone else s and no one has ever heard it before
Yossarian himself. These differences alienate him from the rest of the squadron, save for a few of
Yossarian s close friends, and make it seem like Yossarian is special in some way, even though it is
revealed that he is not really much different than the rest of the squadron.
Even though Yossarian is different in physical appearance and name then the rest of the squadron, it

The Infamous Patchwork Mouse Case
The universal principle that underlines all work conducted in the field of science is that the
knowledge yielded from scientific discovery can never be considered to be indisputable truth as it
is derived solely from the human perspective of the world and, to the greater extent, the tangible
universe. As a result, theories brought forward that are considered to be factual one day can be
justly discarded the next if enough evidence is produced to form a realised contradiction. It is due
to this, therefore, that scienceholds great authority over how society is able to perceive its
surroundings and consequently, how it allows human society to progress.
Science is far from perfect . As it is conducted by human beings, it is only natural that mistakes
and inconsistencies are likely to occur. However, there is a distinct line between work that is
genuine and that of work that has been purposely falsified to produce a desired result. This is
known as pseudoscience (or scientific misconduct) and is largely responsible for the wealth of
controversy that has been brought upon science.
In particular, this report will focus on a widely criticized and notorious case of scientific fraud,
consisting of how it was perpetrated, what events transpired because of it, the motives of the
accused, how the case is likely to bring harm to science and what measures can be employed to
rectify any possible instances of future misconduct.

Digital Estate Research Paper
Unlike 20 years ago, a large portion of an average person s life is done online. If you re like most
people, you have an accumulation of digital assets, which can include everything from photos,
videos to checking accounts.
If you fail to leave your loved ones a complete documentation of your digital possessions, they can
be lost in cyberspace. If you re worried about your digital assets after you re gone, here are some
guidelines for ensuring they continue.
What s Included in a Digital Estate
A digital estate entails all your accounts that are accessed through a computer. This typically
includes:
All email accounts This includes incoming, sent and stored email messages from all computers,
laptops, Ipads, cell phones and other internet devices.
Social media accounts such as Twitter,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s tempting to select a close relative or friend to hand over your personal data once you re gone.
However, if you do this, just be sure he or she is qualified to handle the technical facets of all types
of digital assets.
One of the most qualities to look for when choosing a digital executor director is someone who s
detail oriented and exceptionally organized. Your digital executor should be highly tech savvy and
not afraid to use the internet.
He or she should also be dedicated to carrying out all your wishes, as well as be a patient person
because dealing with various internet companies can entail a considerable amount of time. Also, a
digital executor should be able to communicate and work well with other people.
Considerations and Warnings
Even if you leave behind all your passwords for your internet accounts, most heirs will still be
frustrated because they can still lack the power or authority for managing your online accounts once
you re

African American music and literature has been embraced by all cultures globally hands down.
The power in music shows how all cultures are embracing African American music and literature
into their cultures and societies. Artist today have so much pressure to crossover to be adaptable
to other cultures so that they are marketable or saleable to the industry proves how powerful music
can be to our culture. The idea that art of Blues which came from African American culture
evolved from a time of pain and oppression was embraced by whites secondhand in creating the
genre of music known as Rock n Roll. Music has touched so many cultures at one time
worldwide through the likes of Iconic performers over the years when we see concerts in other
countries where English is not spoken yet the audience knows every word of the song is proof
that that music is powerful. Music lures our emotions and it makes an impact on connecting
different cultures across the word. BeyoncГ© s Formation was an illustration of how artist use
music to direct attention to inequalities and the need to come together against wrong doings.
However, Michael Jackson, U2, Madonna, Selena, Kendrick Lamar just to name a few in this
era all have used music to convey a hidden message either political or social the issue was spoken

Symptoms And Treatment Of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Essay
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as ALS or sometimes called Lou Gehrig s Disease,
is a progressive neurological disease affecting the nerves that control voluntary muscle movement.
It is the most common type of motor neuron disease. The body isn t able to operate as it normally
does due to the muscles weakening overtime. As the disease progresses, it starts to damage nerves
of other vital areas of the body. When the body isn t able to breath the way it should causing
respiratory failure and other things start to go wrong, the body has no choice, but to shut down and
die. (ALS Association)
Lou Gehrig s disease came into public awareness from a famous New York Yankees baseball player
who was forced to retire after developing the disease and died two years later. It was originally
discovered in 1869 by a French neurologist named Jean Martin Charcot. He was the first man to be
able to connect motor neurons in the spinal cord to the ALS disease. (Medical News Today)
The name Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is derived from Greek origin. Amyotrophic broken down
with A meaning no, myo referring to muscles, and trophic meaning nourishment. The three roots
equal the meaning of no muscle nourishment . When muscles lose their nourishment, they are not
able to stay strong and can withhold their shape. Lateral being the spinal cord and its position to

I Am My Own Villain And Procrastination
It s a race to the finish line in a typical workday in my world, and that finish line is what I label to
be the time clock. I have allowed this small, compact technology device that is screwed into the
concrete wall, to control my life Monday through Friday. I know without a doubt, that if I punch
that small button on time, the rest of my day is guaranteed to be smooth sailing. You see, I m
not a person that wakes up refreshed, smelling the Folders coffee in the morning, while birds are
singing beautifully to me. I purposely pile on the stress and it creates this anxiety in my life,
mainly in the mornings while racing to get ready and drive to work. I have no understanding to
why I do this to myself, but I am my own villain and procrastination is my toxic poison. There are
many people that have morning routines that they follow while getting ready, but me, I do
whatever I want, when I want, and because of that, my morning time is limited. Some days I do
not have time to pack a lunch, or even take our two dogs out to pee. Since my husband works
third shift, I depend on him to come home and do it for me. Making the first move to get out of
bed is always the toughest, plus getting ready for work is a preparation from hell. Then, I have to
hustle and bustle, and drive like a mad woman to get to work on time. Every morning, my annoying
alarm clockgoes off at 7:30, but I turn it off and roll back over to knock out some more snooze time.

Parental Influences in Heathcliff, Cathy and Linton Essay...
Emily BrontГ«, in her novel, Wuthering Heights, suggests that children, in their very nature, exhibit
traits from their parental influences. However, these traits are not always represented at the same
time and can come out in different situations. For instance, as Cathy Linton grows up, her
personality is a mixture of her calmer father, Edgar, and her more fiery mother, Catherine. She
shows both these personalities, but she limits each to the correct time and circumstance. Also, the
same goes for Linton Heathcliff, who has become a mixture of both his mother, Isabella, and his
father, Heathcliff. Lastly, this is shown in Hareton Earnshaw, who, because he has little to no
relationship with his biological parents, has turned into a man more... Show more content on

Although she never knew her mother, Cathy shows traits from both her parents. From Catherine,
she gains a more fiery spirit, strength, and the ability to control. From Edgar, she gains a
weaker, calmer, and more acceptable conduct in society. Cathy becomes the mixture of this
unlikely pair. On one hand, she is calm and weak, and on the other hand, she is excitable and
strong. Her personality depends on the situation and circumstance. However, these traits do not
mix. She cannot be both strong and weak at the same time; she cannot be both hot and cold at
the same time. An instance of her demonstrating more Earnshaw like characteristics is when she
talks back to Heathcliff. She tells him that no one will ever love him, and he is unlovable. In her
strength to yell at the much physically stronger Heathcliff and offend him, she shows him her
own strength and power. This strength comes from the legacy of her mother, Catherine. Also,
Cathy shows physical strength and power when she pushes Linton s chair down when they are
in a fight. Cathy, beside herself, gave the chair a violent push, and caused him to fall against one
arm (239). This shows her power over other people in the novel as Catherine did when she was a
child. Cathy s Linton behavior is more present in her everyday actions. She is more refined and
sophisticated, which is a characteristic of the Lintons. Because of these two sides

The Complexity Of Sociological Concept Of Health And Illness
The complexity of sociological concept of health and illness is not easy to define and measure.
As was summarised by Nettleton (2013) and according to Blaxter (2010) the definition of health
can be both negative and positive. On the one hand there is a medical model of health, which
tends to be negative and it is based on body s ability to function and body s chemistry. This
biomedical perspective describes healthas the absence of disease in measurable biological norm.
On the other hand a positive definition, which is linked to well being of individual, stated that
health is a complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease
and infirmity , was established by World Health Organisation (WHO) in 1948. Being... Show more

Therefore care and treatment should be only delivered by trained medical specialist and health
professionals. Alternative and complementary medicine cannot challenge the dominance of
biomedicine. As was summarised by Barry (2011) study of Illich (1993) stated that there are also
harmful consequences of medical intervention. These implications of the power of medicine are
referred to the term of Iatrogenesis, which implicates that without the medical intervention no harm
would be done. Medical errors, negligence and adverse effect of drugs can affect patients health.
Furthermore in some cases health professionals sometimes neglect patients right to inform about
their health, which can play a major role in their process of recovery from illness. Illich (1993) also
uses a term of medicalization of life where medical professionals, pharmaceutical companies
promote sickness of society for their interest to gain power over society (ibid). Nettleton (2013)
described medical model in the way that it is only aiming to restore body from disease to the
normal state of being, free form any form or symptoms of disease. This matter is rather personal
for individuals, what is normal and what is not tends to be subjective. Furthermore according to
Walsh (2004) the biomedical model has been criticised and challenges since 1960 for only focusing
on biological causes of illness. The critique is based on fact that this model is neglecting the impact
of environmental, sociological and psychological aspects on health and illness. Famous study by
McKeown (1979) provides another criticism of medical science by questioning their validity.
McKeown thesis stated that growth of population in Western societies was mainly due to economic
conditions, better nutrition and improvements of personal hygiene rather than improvements of

Symbolism, Imagery and Allegory in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and A Streetcar Named Desire
Tennessee Williams said, in the foreword to Camino Real, a symbol in a play has only one
legitimate purpose, which is to say a thing more directly and simply and beautifully than it could
be said in words. Symbolism is used, along with imagery and allegory to that effect in both Cat on
a Hot Tin Roof and A Streetcar Named Desire. Both plays tend to share the same kinds of symbols
and motifs; sometimes they achieve the same meaning, sometimes not. It is possible that Williams
took elements from A Streetcar Named Desire to make Cat on a Hot Tin Roof a success. After the

This dialogue is symbolic of Brick s decision to take an ideal past over an uncertain future. The
`click in Brick s head is his escape; it echoes the click of the phone when he hung up on Skipper.
It means that he doesn t have to face the truth anymore just like he didn t with Skipper. The
alcohol leads to the click and the click leads to escape. At the end of the play, Maggie removes
both of Brick s crutches until he satisfies her physically in trying for a baby. This is symbolically
forcing Brick to face the future before wallowing in the past.
In A Streetcar Named Desire, one of the first things Blanche does when arriving at Elysian
Fields is look around for some liquor (Streetcar p.120), just as she looks for an escape from her
own past. This symbolism puts new meaning in Blanche s line [looking down at the glass, which
shakes in her hand]: You re all I ve got in the world, and your not glad to see me! it leaves one
wondering whether she is talking to Stella or to the liquor at this point.
Both Brick and Blanche have idealised their pasts beyond reach. Brick sums this up, stating,
those high hurdles have gotten too high for me, now. (Cat p. 53) This imagery of the high
hurdles is symbolic of the unattainable past Brick strives for. Boxhill believes that Brick saw
Skipper as a symbol of a marriage of pure souls (Boxhill p.113). Griffin sums up Brick s

Divine Comedy Analysis
In the Divine Comedy, Dante is lost in the dark woods at the bottom of mount Delectable. This
place fills him with great fear so he looks for a way out. In an attempt to leave this fearsome

that died years earlier. Beatrice sent Virgil to help guide Dante to heaven to see her and to become
worthy of God and Heaven. Dante had the option to either go see Beatrice and become worthy but
would have to go through hellto do so, or he can stay in the woods without Beatrice and be
unworthy of heaven. Dante decides to follow Virgil into the depths of hell, motivated by the fact

Don Juan As Byron Introspective Essay
The works of George Gordon, Lord Byron have long been controversial, nearly as controversial
as his lifestyle. Gordon Byron was born with a clubfoot and his sensitivity to it haunted his life
and his works. Despite being a very handsome child, a fragile self esteem made Byron extremely
sensitive to criticism, of himself or of his poetry and he tended to make enemies rather quickly. The
young Byronwas often unhappy and lonely any many of his works seem to be a sort of
introspective therapy. Throughout his writings and life history there is much evidence to suggest
that his poetry was greatly influenced by his mental instability. In many ways, Byron seems to use
his work as an escape from a difficult reality.

Byron s attorney, rescued him from the unnatural affections of May Grey, the tortures of Lavender
and uneven temper of his mother.
The effects of his early experiences were to be felt by the poet for many years. The consequences
of these tortured episodes blend into his entire life in the anticipated melancholy that he always
experience (Eisler 41). At seventeen he entered Cambridge University. Determined to overcome his
physical handicap, Byron became a good rider, swimmer, boxer, and marksman. He enjoyed
literature but cared little for other subjects. After graduation he embarked on a grand tour that
supplied inspiration for many of his later works.
Of the many poems in which Byron reveals details from his own experiences, Don Juan offers
the most intimate look into the life of the artist.Canto I of Don Juan describes Juan s mother,
Donna Inez as being a woman who look d a lecture, each eye a sermon (Longman 577). Donna
Inez watched carefully over every detail of her son s education and Catherine Byron did the same
for her son, attempting in her clumsy way to provide Byron with preparation for life as a member
of the gentry. Mrs. Byron became obsessed with making her son perfect and he in turn submitted
stoically to various forms of torture (Grosskurth 29). Although the description of Donna Inez is

Living In The City Vs City Life
Living in the city can be an exciting experience for a greater opportunity than living in the country.
The country provides a relaxing environment that the city may not provide. Some would prefer to
live the city life, others prefer the country life. People who live in the country would probably have
hobbies like fishing, hunting, and riding dirt bikes versus people living in the city; People living in
the city would much rather go out to nice restaurants, live close to other people, and have an
expensive lifestyle. Living in the city is very different from living in the country because they are
different lifestyles with different atmospheres.
Residence in the city can have a greater variety of things to do and different varieties of people
to meet. Residing in the city can give you better opportunities to make friends than the country
because everyone lives so close together and the county has property at a farther distance. Even
though the property is separated out the country area, it would be hard not to run into an
individual that you may be familiar with because they are usually in small towns. City life would
be great for individuals that love meeting new people every day and doing a variety of things in
their free time.
In the city, there are more to be entertained with like shopping outlet s, bowling alleys, and special
events that the country may not have. Individuals that are twenty one and up can stop at bars and
nightclubs with people that are befriended the

The Rate Of Preterm Birth Essay
For when a child is born the mother is also born again, has been rightfully quoted by Gilbert
Parker (Gilbert Parker, n.d.). Childbirth is one of the greatest privileges on the earth anyone could
have and we, as women, should feel proud to be major contributors for it. Thus, a mother has to
play a key role in aiding the healthcare workers to mitigate the health crisis associated with
childbirthby performing her duties faithfully. One such associated health crisis is Premature
(preterm) birth which occurs when the baby is born too early, before 37 weeks of gestational
period (CDC, 2015). The rate of preterm birth ranges from 5% to 18% of babies born across 184
countries (WHO, 2015). Premature birth is an important public health priority in terms of
health of women and infants. Every year an estimated 15 million preterm babies are born and
this number is still rising (WHO, 2015).In 2014, 1 of every 10 babies born in United States were
premature and black infants were 50% more likely to be born premature than white, Hispanic and
Asian/Pacific islander infants (CDC,2015). Almost 1 million children die each year due to
complications of premature birth (WHO, 2015). Major survivors face lifelong disabilities like
learning disabilities, hearing, visual, feeding, digestive, breathing and respiratory problems (CDC,
2015) and low birth weight (March of Dimes, 2014). A major challenge in decreasing the rate of
preterm birth is

Learning Receptive Language Skills By Using An Authentic Text
Reading is a complex cognitive process of decoding symbols in order to construct or derive
meaning (reading comprehension). www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reading The aim of the
assignment is to practice receptive language skills by using an authentic text. I have choose an
advert to discuss the importance of donation to schools for breakfast for young students. I
obtained it from www.magicbreakfast.com website. I am confident about the text that it would
be ideal for visual learners as it comprises with an image . I m teaching Entry 1 , and is a well
blend of diversity. Learners are from Bangladesh, Italy, Romania and Sudan. Learners have good
receptive skills and always welcome new ideas toward their learning. Their positive approach is
an asset towards my teaching, and I felt the advert would be appropriate. The advert gives the
message to donate for the good cause and is not culturally biased. The element of personalisation
from learners aspect would help them to engage in the readingeffectively, hence allowing a
productive session to occur.
The text is formal and has good vocabulary aspect. It would create a good discussion. I feel the
theme of the text would make it a good discussion for the productive activity.
At the same time I would assure learners will enjoy reading and would not be bored because my
main focus would be on the weaker ones, they should get the opportunity to read and give their
opinions.
I would preteach vocabulary to simplify the understanding.

How Does Economy Affect The Mexican Economy
The Mexican economy is currently the 15th largest economy in the world with a GDP of $2.2
trillion ( Index of Economic Freedom , 2017). In comparison, the United States had a GDP of
$18.57 trillion in 2016 ( United States GPD , 2017). Fears of a Trump presidency initially caused
predictions for a slower GDP growth in 2017, but as fears are eased Mexico s finance ministry has
increased their predictions for the GDP growth to an estimated 1.5% to 2.5% increase for 2017,
raised from the previous estimate of 1.3% to 2.3% (Harrup, 2017). The GDP growth rate continues
to increase from previous years. In 2015, the GDP was measured at 2.3%, which was a 0.9%
increase from 2013 ( Mexican GDP Growth Rate 2017). The economy also benefits from free...

Because of Mexico s large manufacturing industry, the country produces and exports the same
amount of goods as all other Latin American countries combined (Amadeo, 2017). Another
dependent factor of Mexico s economy is tourism. It is the eighth most visited country in the
world and ranks number one among visitors to Latin America. A total of 8.9% of the country s
GDP comes from tourism income which is the nation s fifth biggest source of revenue (Wood,

resort towns along the Caribbean coast such as Cancun, the Riviera Maya, and Los Cabos in the
Baja Peninsula on the Pacific Ocean coast. The unemployment rate in Mexico is currently at

poverty into two categories: moderate poverty and extreme poverty. The Mexican government
estimates that 33% of its population lives in moderate poverty while 9% live in extreme poverty

Memorializing is often the way to remember a very important, intelligent, or rich person who
lives above the rest of us. When we memorialize it sets a way to remember someone long after

who change the world for the better or discover something new like Christopher Columbus, and his

How Is Winston Churchill A Hero
Ever since his victory in World War II, Winston Churchill has been considered one of the greatest
military and political leaders of all time. He has been remembered for his determination,
motivational speeches and wartime leadership. In particular, the success of the evacuation of
Dunkirk, and the defeat of Hitler have been remembered as two of his greatest achievements.
However, Churchill also made a number of mistakes throughout his career, which have now been
mostly forgotten. The best example of this, is the failed Gallipoli campaign, which ended in
complete disaster. However in spite of this, Churchill still remains thought of as one of the greatest
leaders in history, because of the challenges that he faced throughout his career, and how he

The aim of this campaign was to regain control of the Dardanelles, a vital waterway connecting the
Black Sea and the Mediterranean. The Dardanelles were under the control of the Turks, who were

faster transport of weapons to the Russian navy. At the time of Gallipoli, Winston Churchillwas
First Lord of the Admiralty, and therefore responsible for the campaign. The campaign resulted in
disaster, with over 200,000 soldiers wounded or killed in battle or from the harsh living conditions.
Eventually, in December of 1915, the Allies were forced to retreat. Following the failure of the

ACC5TAX Semester 1 2016 Individual Assignment
Introduction
What is Capital Gains Tax?
A capital gain or loss is basically the difference between the what is the cost to acquire an asset
and what is received when that asset is sold. Everyone is entitled to pay tax on the gains made from
the sale of the asset. The capital gain tax is a part of the income tax and is not to be considered as a
separate tax though it has been given a separate name as Capital Gains Tax (CGT).
If a capital loss is incurred the same cannot be claimed against the income, however the same can
be used to reduce the capital gains made in the same financial year. Also if the losses are higher
than the gains over the financial year then the losses can be carried ... Show more content on

Reflection On Volunteering At Ruth Fyfe Elementary School
For my community service project I will be volunteering at Ruth Fyfe Elementary School. After
contacting the school s administration I was assigned to 3 different classes. My first challenge
was to work with 3rd graders, in my first assigned class, and help them with their multiplication. I
also had to help two other different 4th grade classes. I had to be extremely outgoing for
students to listen. I was a personal tutor for mere minutes because there were many students to
give my attention to. Ruth Fyfe is an elementary on W Bonanza Rd, pretty much on the other
side of town. In my assigned 3rd grade class I didn t exactly participate with every student
equally. I felt a bit biased towards some of the students because some students cared more than
others. I loved how some students were mentally engaged. I talked to all of the kids, however, I
mainly helped those who actually showed effort even if they were incorrect. The 4th grade class
was slightly more advanced but not too much of a difference in regards to maturity. I was
assigned two 4th grade classes for a total of 4 hours (2 hours each). The 4th graders were more
literate, however they still struggled. I tried my best to help them with their reading, but I can only
help to an extent because I have a problem with reading fast as well. In Parental... Show more

Trickster God Mythology Examples
Iktomi, Wakjankaga, Coyote, and Rick Sanchez trickster gods created through generations of
rich Sioux, Winnebago, and Navajo tradition, as well as the weird and wonderful minds of Dan
Harmon and Justin Roiland. Specifically, I ll be focusing on the themes of community and
individual values told through trickster god narratives with a concentration on
environmentalism. Initially, it s important to establish the tropes and traits of trickster gods, so
I can establish a firm link between Rick Sanchez and trickster gods of old. This will give the
social commentary and myth of Adult Swims Rick and Morty a figurative leg to stand on.
Beginning, let s define common traits and relay them to specific examples in trickster myths.
Trickster God s are often wandering, bawdy, gluttonous, and obscene (Levine 100) selfish,
amoral, foolish, destructive, and as the name indicates, given to duping others in his own
interests (Levine 100). They are also culture heros (Levine 100) with god like power (Levine

secure his grandson Morty a date at a dance, makes him a love serum, which unintentionally infects
the whole world with a virus that turns everyone into a David Cronenberg esque monsters. He is
then forced to relocate himself and morty to another dimension of earth. This satisfies multiple of

Essay Investigating Air Pollution
Investigating Air Pollution
There are many different types of air pollutant. These pollutants have different effects on the
environment and on our health. Some, directly because they are harmful chemicals and others
because they can react together to produce harmful chemicals. Other pollutants or pollutant
combinations upset the natural balance of acidity and nitrogen in the environment which can affect
the diversity of species in sensitive areas. Other pollutants can contribute to changing global
conditions and potentially give rise to dramatic changes in climate and sea level.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a toxic gas which is emitted into the atmosphere as a result of combustion
processes, and is also formed by the oxidation of hydrocarbons and other organic compounds. In
European urban areas, CO is produced almost entirely (90%) from road traffic emissions. It
survives in the atmosphere for a period of approximately one month but is eventually oxidised to
carbon dioxide (CO2).
Nitrogen Dioxide. Nitrogen oxides are formed during high temperature combustion processes
from the oxidation of nitrogen in the air or fuel. The principal source of nitrogen oxides nitric
oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), collectively known as NOx is road traffic, which is
responsible for approximately half the emissions in Europe. NO and NO2 concentrations are
therefore greatest in urban areas where traffic is heaviest. Other important sources are power
stations, heating plants and industrial processes.
Ground level ozone (O3), unlike other pollutants mentioned , is not emitted directly into the
atmosphere, but is a secondary pollutant produced by reaction between nitrogen dioxide (NO2),
hydrocarbons and sunlight. Ozone levels are not as high in urban areas (where high levels of NO
are emitted from vehicles) as in rural areas. Sunlight provides the energy to initiate ozone
formation; consequently,

Causes Of Antisocial Personality
Symptom and factors: Focus on the current event that seems like the violence activities became
more and more common in our dairy life. What caused our personalities changed compared with
past 50 years, I believe that 50 years ago, only few people heard about antisocial, since the
technology started to developed that our brain function also evoluted became more flexible,
meanwhile it brought more potential danger. The most common symptoms for antisocial
personality are: dishonest and disloyal; lacking in guilt; habitually breaks social rules; often in
trouble with the public laws. As it was mentioned on textbook that antisocial personality
belonged to cluster B which meaning characterized by dramatic, emotional, or erratic behaviors.
Antisocial is the derivative that came from the word psychopath it was used to describe those
people who were willing to hurt others by no reasons; lack of empathy is the most dangerous
factor. They only care about themselves, do whatever they want, they believe they are not
belong to any groups. There is one thing that we could not denied those people who have
antisocial behavior, they are the masters of language, why I m saying this because they may
display a glib, superficial charm and can be quite voluble and verbally facile ( they will use their

The Importance Of Gun Violence In The United States
America s gun violence rate has been alarmingly increasing since the 90s and has continued
throughout the years. Although guns may save lives, evidence shows that in the United States,
thieves are more likely to steal guns and misuse them. Due to lack of gun control found in nearly
fifty percent of the states, citizens misuse guns for other reasons. Since 2012, there have been gun
sales spiking across the U.S. Every year, America s minimum increase in gun sales is five percent.
The American government should raise gun laws to reduce gun violence, which leads to death.
Opponents might argue that owning a gun reduces their chances of injury. Opponents might also
say that guns are useful for self defense. However, evidence shows an increasing number in the
misuse of guns for damage.

After a time, the existence of subnormal profits would cause firms to leave the industry. Supply
would fall and prices rise. Hence long run equilibrium is one of normal profits only.
Perfect Competition Long Run
[pic]
Advantages of perfect competition
Because firms produce where MC=MR=Price, allocative efficiency is achieved.
Productive efficiency is also achieved because the firm produces at the lowest point of the AC curve.
Prices are lower because of increased competition.
Because of perfect knowledge firms must keep up to date and innovate or they will be forced to
leave the industry.
In the long run all firms will earn normal profits.
Cartels and other restrictive agreements cannot emerge to exploit consumers.
Perfect competition can be used as a model in economic analysis.
Disadvantages of perfect competition
Firms have little time to benefit from inventions because they quickly enter the public domain.
Since firms make only normal profits they might not have the funds to undertake expensive
research that often yields the most outstanding discoveries.
Firms might not benefit from economies of large scale production.
In order to prevent abuse of the consumer, some industries are best run by the state as natural
monopolies and so perfect competition would be inappropriate.
Perfect competition is a goal that cannot be reached in the real world.

Cultural Differences and The Impact On The Communication Process
Alberts, Martin and Nakayama (2011) describe communication as a transactional process in which
people generate meaning through the exchange of verbal and nonverbal messages in in specific

on to state that intercultural communication occurs in interactions between people who are

The movie that I studied was Django Unchained. It follows a German bounty hunter, Dr. King

Investigating The Conversion Of Hydrogen Peroxide
Sandy Ibrahim
10/30/15
AP Biology
Period 6
Lab Two: Enzyme Catalysis
Introduction
This lab will observe the conversion of hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen gas by the enzyme
catalysis. The amount of oxygen generated will be measured and used to calculate the rate of the
enzyme catalyzed reaction. Enzymes are proteins produced by living cells. Enzymes act as
biochemical catalysts during a reaction, meaning they lower the activation energy needed for that
reaction to occur. Through enzyme activity, cells gain the ability to carry out complex chemical
activities at relatively low temperatures. The substance in an enzyme catalyzed reaction that is to be
acted upon is the substrate, which comes together reversibly to the active site of the enzyme. The
active site is the portion of the enzyme that interacts with the substrate. One result of this temporary
union between the substrate and the active site is a reduction in the activation energy required to
start the reaction of the substrate molecule so that products are formed. In a mathematical equation
of the substrate (S) binding with the activation site (E) and forming products (P) is:
E + S ES E + P Several ways enzyme action may be affected include:
1) Salt Concentration For example, if salt concentration is close to zero, the charged amino acid
side chains of the enzyme molecules will attract each other. The enzyme will then denature and
form an inactive precipitate. If salt concentration is extremely

William Shakespeare s Othello, Much Ado About Nothing,...
Power is said to be the ability of another to be able to control or influence others in a given
situation. Power is also a reoccurring theme that is without a doubt well displayed in Othello, Much
Ado About Nothing, Porphyria s Lover, Eveline, and My Last Duchess. In drama Othello, by
Shakespeare, the title character suspects his wife Desdemona has been unfaithful with no proof and
just the assumption of a friend. He publicly confronts Desdemona by hitting her and calling her a
whore. Othellois in possession of power here because he publicly shows what he is capable of; he
is not afraid to hit a woman. In short story Eveline, by James Joyce, Eveline and her younger

In the play Much Ado About Nothing, by Shakespeare, Claudio has false knowledge when it
comes to his fiance, Hero, being unfaithful, and proceeds to publicly confront her in front of their
friends and family. In a later scene, Hero s cousin Beatrice suggests to Claudio s friend Benedick
that he should kill Claudio because of his false accusations toward Hero. Beatrice has power
because she is able to take advantage of Benedick s feeling for her and convince him to kill
Claudio. These texts all include the similarity of abusive power. Irrational decisions and behaviors,
such as murder and sanity, are often times the effect of abusive power.
The drama Othello, by Shakespeare, and the short story Eveline, by James Joyce, both
exemplify similar forms of power. During the course of the theatrical piece Othello, the
protagonist is led on by Iago to believe his wife to be unfaithful. Whether Desdemona truly was
dishonest is left ambiguous by the end. DESDEMONA: Why, sweet Othello OTHELLO:

The reason for this being that the more agricultural products the county provides to export, the
more profit that the country can make. With this being the case these farmers will purchase

destroy all trees upon the land in an effort to provide ideal cultivation areas to produce large cash

lies within the fact that soil in which they will be using is extremely low in nutrients. This
meaning that every 2 to 3 years of usage the farmer will then be forced to expunge the used land
followed by the obtaining of new lands. This in turn becomes a continual cycle where the farmers
become parasites of the land, where day by day they will suck every ounce of life from the land
until it is dry.
Ranching is another cause for destruction of rainforests. Ranchers obtain land in the same method
as farmers do, but however, they are not forced to move from land to land as the farmers do.
Ranchers clear large areas of rainforest to become pastures for their cattle. This land does not cost
them very much and often more then not the ranchers are able to collect this land for free,
enabling them to sell cattle at relatively low prices. Cattle ranching for beef exports are perhaps

The Role Of The God s Gardeners
The group of people in the novel, who are called the God s Gardeners, can be ignored as they play
a vital role in the novel. The God s Gardeners are the environmentalist community and interact with
the larger culture. Both Toby and Ren in the novel are taken under the wings of this community.
This God s Gardener group is a religious cult which follows their own culture and rejects other
outside culture to protect both the plants and animals. They are the close knit community that stay
and work together. The basic principle of this community is to value all the creatures that are
present in the world. This community is strictly vegetarian and only eats meat under an emergency
condition. Only organic and homegrown diet that they grow up in the... Show more content on

It like the present is hopeless and only the horrific disaster can bring back the nature. Furthermore,
whoever reads the novel would feel like Atwood raising a question that is what kind of collapse
will be required before something fundamentally new is to spread over the Earth?. God s Gardener
lives with the rebellion against the commodity and the greedy pleasure. In We re Using Up the
Earth. It s Almost Gone : A Return to the Post Apocalyptic Future in Margaret Atwood s The Year
of the Flood, J.Brooks Bouson points out that the God s Gardener also see the need for the
cleansing renewal of humanity and the creation of new social and moral order (2011,17). God s
Gardeners reconstruct the Biblical stories from the boks of Genesis, Jeremiah and Apocalypse in
which God angry with sinful people, warns humankind:
So the LORD said, I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created and with
them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground for I regret that I have
made them. (Genesis

The Blind Man Raymond Carver
Raymond Carver does an excellent job of formulating the overall theme of looking without seeing.
While it is very apparent to the reader that the main character can see physical objects just fine, one
can also see that he clearly has a limit to that sight when it comes to emotional connections. As we
follow the story, we can see the narrator transform and ultimately reach a breakthrough in the end.
By using point of view, character, and symbolism, Carver is able to highlight the theme of the story.
Upon reading the first sentence of this short story This blind man, an old friend of my wife s, he
was on his way to spend the night. (Seagull 61) we can concur that the narrator is speaking in first
person point of view, and is both an observer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is in the comparison of the narrator and Robert that we can truly see the narrator s internal
journey. The fact that he is blind is tremendously significant to the story s underlying meaning.
The narrator has the ability to see everything, and yet Robert this blind man is capable of seeing
more. It seems as if Robert recognizes the narrator s faulty perception when he asks him to
describe the cathedral. Getting him to draw with him allows the narrator to gain insight; something
I think Robert knew would happen when he asked him to close his eyes on page 76. It is through
these recognitions that we can see the narrator s ability to change from an egotistical misogynist
who can only perceive physical sight and value into a man who recognizes things for what they truly

Chillingworth was out for revenge, but used a physician as his excuse to seek revenge. He was not
there to cure the sick , but make the sinner justify his actions for wronging him and Hester.
Chillingworth used his said profession to begin the process of retribution. The novel addresses
Chillingworth s tone once he speaks of revenge, His fame, his position, his life, will be in my
hands. Beware! (Hawthorne 53). Chillingworth made is very clear to Hester right off the bat that
what he wanted was vengeance. He didn t know who else wronged him in the situation, but he

I am writing this letter to you to inform and update our King s Christian College Creek that is
located in the middle of the school. As a class, we have conducted test to find the temperature,
turbidity, pH, dissolved oxygen and found macroinvertebrates in the ecosystem. These tests has
been conducted to figure out what we need to improve the ecosystem for a better habitat for the
creatures living.
We have conducted 4 chemical tests to figure out how to improve our King s Christian College
Creek and our pond. We have measured the temperature of the creek and the pond so that we can
see how it affects the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of the water. We furthermore
calculated the turbidity of the water to find the muddiness caused by dirt, plants and animals
matters floating in the water. Additionally, we have conducted this experiment to find the pH of the
water. Pure water has a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We have noticed that pond was warmer than the top area of the creek. This is because the top
area of the creek is covered by multiple trees which doesn t allow the sunlight to shine against
the water. The average turbidity of the top area of the creek is 16. The average turbidity of the
pond is 6.666666667. This could be improved by removing the litter students or people throw in
the water. The litter can be eaten by creatures living and most importantly turtles can eat plastic
which could kill them. Filtering the water may harm some creatures since they live in a
ecosystem with no filtered water. The average pH of the top area of the creek is 6.2 and the
pond is 6.333333333. According to the result ranges, the King s Christian College Creek is in an
excellent pH condition. This could be preserved by just keeping it the same way as now. The
dissolved oxygen of the top creek is 4 and so as the pond. This indicates that the water in both pond
and creek is in good

Darcy Vs Collins Pride And Prejudice Essay
A proposal is the pinnacle of a continuing, dedicated relationship, and which expresses one s true
love for the other, yet these two men take this crucial event in a woman s life too lightly. In Jane
Austen s Pride and Prejudice, Mr. Darcy and Mr. Collins are men of contrasting personalities and
social status, but these two men desire the same goal; to take the hand of Elizabeth Bennet.
Unfortunately for both men, Elizabeth flat out refuses their offer and does so with anger and
disgust. It takes courage to propose to a beloved woman, but it must be done so with patience and
precise timing, which these two do not follow. Collins, only after being in the Bennet estate for a
couple of days, suddenly asks Elizabeth for her hand in marriage.... Show more content on

When Elizabeth first meets Darcy, he is critical of her looks and her family. She is told by
George Wickham that Darcy had ruined his chances of inheriting a well deserved fortune. Based
on Elizabeth s and other people s opinions, Darcy is seen as an arrogant and selfish person who
does not consider the feelings of others. What is even worse is that the man Elizabeth dislikes the
most is expressing his love towards her. While alone together, Darcy proposes, saying My feeling
will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you (pg.
170). Elizabeth, baffled and indignant, argues with Darcy about his personality and Wickham s
misfortune. Although their relationship started off rough, Darcy truly loves Elizabeth, but could
not openly portray his feelings. The letter given to Elizabeth explains why Wickham was
cheated of his money, because Darcy protected his sister from a gambler. In reality, Darcy is a
caring and considerate man who does not want his loved ones upset, but he is often misjudged by
other people, especially by Elizabeth. During a proposal, the reaction of the woman is a decisive
factor is an everlasting relationship. Elizabeth rejects these two men because of who she is,
personality wise. Collins requests for her hand in matrimony for convenience, which Mrs. Bennet
supports, but Elizabeth is not willing to submit her life

Queen Victoria s Morality During The Victorian Era
Morality can be described as the conformity to the rules of right conduct. During the Victorian
Era, England s morals were based upon principles, including the practice of celibacy, zero crime
tolerance, and a strict conduct. Before the Victorian Era, its previous leaders and their
debaucheries influenced England s public. However, when Queen Victoria came into ruling she
raised their moral codes and no longer accepted England s vulgarity and debauchery. In many
instances the Victorian Era is said to have reflected Queen Victoria through its moral responsibility.
Social etiquette was very important during the Victorian Era. People were expected to act a certain
way and if they didn t they were often referred to as uneducated and bad mannered.

Ufo Club Research Paper
It s all fun and games until someone gets hurt, or killed. A flight instructor, of all people, and two
students decided it would be a good idea to go on a spree of buzzing cars on the freeway during
the night, while attempting to look like a UFO. Their luck eventually ran out, however, when they
struck power lines stretching across the freeway during a night of UFO mischief.
The UFO club, as they dubbed themselves, was supposed to be doing crosscountry training from
Stillwater Municipal Airport to Tulsa Oklahoma. The flight started normally with the crew opening
a flight plan and flying from Richard Lloyd Jones Jr. Airport to Stillwater Municipal. After landing,
they closed their flight plan and instead of continuing on their cross country,

What Is The Difference Between Creation And Creation Of...
How were human beings created? How has life come to be? How was the earth created? These are
some very important questions that humans have tried to answer for ages. In an attempt to answer
these questions, different cultures around the world developed different beliefs. Some believe that
they are many gods watching over them, while others believe that there is only one supreme God.
Some believe that humans were created by an explosion while others believed that a God or gods
created them. Today, I will be analyzing two different creation stories, Genesis, the Christian
creation story and The Creation and Emergence story by the Jicarilla Apaches. While some
differences between the two are evident, the similarities are noticeable. In both creation stories, in
the beginning, there was nothing. There was no humans, animals, or planets. In the story, The
Creation and the Emergence it says, In the beginning, there was nothing no earth, no living beings.
There was only darkness, water, and Cyclone, the wind. They were no humans but only the Hactin,
the Jicarilla supernatural beings. In the Christian creation story it is stated, In the beginning, God
created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the
surface of the deep, and the spirit of God was hovering over the waters. So in both of the stories, in
the beginning, there was water and darkness. This shows that Christians and Jicarilla Apaches
believed that the universewas at

Islamism In Iraq
Explain the impact of the role of Islam in the politics of Iraq after Saddam Hussein s dictatorship.
Islamism, as a basic feature of Muslim and especially Arab politics, and has played a major role
in Iraqi politics. There are two branches of Islam present in Iraq, the Shiites (Or Shia) and Sunni.
Similar to Iran and Bahrain, Iraq has a Shiites majority. This majority has, however, not been able
to exercise much political power until the 2000 s, with the removal of President Saddam Hussein
and his Sunni elite. Modern Iraq has a strong affinity between religious devotion and politics.
During the 2003 2011 presence of U.S. forces, Iraq completed a transition from the dictatorship of
Saddam Hussein to a plural political system in which varying ... Show more content on

The primary grievances of most Iraqi Sunnis include the integration of Shi a militias into the Iraqi
Security Forces (ISF), attacks by the ISF in Sunni civilian areas, and political exclusion in Baghdad.
A huge moral and ideological vacuum had emerged in Iraq after Saddam Hussein, and Islam was
ideal to provide a new moral compass to the people. Neighboring states were already moving
quickly where possible to establish centers of influence within Iraq to prepare for the day when
U.S. power departs. Iran supported Islamist movements among the Shia while Saudi Arabia and the
Gulf States sought bolster Sunni forces in Iraq.
The Islamists Shia and Sunni were not automatically hostile to the U.S. presence, especially since
both gained from the overthrow of Saddam Hussein. But they were determined to retain the
Muslim character of Iraq, especially in the face of non Muslim occupation, and cannot long
support the U.S. presence. Islamist power inside Iraq has diminished to the extent there is freedom
enjoyed by other political and religious parties within the country to rival the Islamists. However,
as nearly everywhere, repression of political pluralism invariably works to the benefit of the

In London, Gandhi joined The University of London to study law. He passed the London
Matriculation at the second attempt. He was unknown of any English Laws. He bought many
books and tried to understand them but it was beyond him. At last he sailed back for India on the
12th of June 1891, a day after he was enrolled into the English High Court. While in India, he went
to Bombay to study Indian Laws. But even this was difficult for him. Eventually he got a case, but
in the court he became so nervous that he left during the case and never went to another one until
going to South Africa.
Gandhi sailed for South Africa in April 1893 and reached Natal at the close of May. It was in
South Africa that Gandhi had a lot of experience in laws, handling cases and many other fields.
He observed the pitiful conditions of the Indians and other colored people and also experienced it
when on his way to Pretoria from Natal, he was thrown out of a train because he was the only
colored person in the first class compartment. The case for which Gandhi had come to South Africa
was between two businessmen, Abdullah Seth and Tyeb Seth, concerning a huge amount of money.
Gandhi had to defend Abdullah Seth. He worked very hard and convinced Tyeb Seth for arbitration.
Abdullah Seth won the arbitration and

A family history of IBD among first degree relatives (OR 4.98 [3.30 7.46]; p 0.001) was also associated with pCD, suggesting additional hereditary influences in the development of pCD. Isolated small bowel disease conferred a protective effect on the development of pCD (OR 0.38 [0.28 0.52]; p 0.001) whereas colonic involvement was significantly associated with pCD (OR 1.35[1.04 1.75]; p = 0.03). To further clarify the association between pCD and colonic and small bowel disease, we identified patients with any colonic or any small bowel disease and observed the same pattern of a protective effect with any small bowel disease (OR 0.74 [0.57 0.96]; p =0.03) and a significant association with any colonic disease (OR 2.55 [1.89 3.49]; p 0.001) for the presence of pCD. Within the colon, distal colonic inflammation showed a strong association with pCD (Table. 3) with a higher OR for pCD the more distal the site of disease involvement. Patients with non stricturing and non penetrating behavior were less likely to develop pCD (OR 0.69 [0.56 0.85]; p = 0.001); whereas stricturing disease behavior was associated with pCD (OR 1.44[1.14 1.81]; p = 0.002). We did not find an association between internal penetrating disease and pCD (Table 3). The ACCJC was instilling sanctions on colleges and causing their accreditation to be in jeopardy unless they resolved them. If you lose your accreditation, state law prohibits them from receiving taxpayer funds (SF GATE, 2013). In the case of CCSF, the school s closure would impact about 75,000 students and nearly 2,500 faculty and staff on 11 campuses throughout the city. The college contributes about $300 million to the local economy every year, according to a recent study by San Francisco s Budget and Legislative Analyst. • 5. Character Analysis of Yossarian in Catch 22 Yossarian is the main character of Catch 22, and one of just a few characters that get fleshed out during the story. Yossarian represents many of the themes and ideas of Catch 22, and provides a character that most people can sympathize with. Yossarian is continually worried about dying but at the same time continues to fly his missions so someone else doesn t have to fly his for him. Yossarianthinks he is sane while everyone else is crazy; however everyone else thinks the exact opposite. He is also seen as different because of name, as nobody has heard it before. The battles of life versus death and sanity versus insanity are some of the things that define Yossarian while he himself represents the psyche of a soldier during war. Yossarian is described as a big burley Assyrian man. His appearance makes him markedly different from the rest of the people in his squadron and is one of the ways that he is seen as an outsider by the rest of the squadron. In addition to his appearance, his name also makes him stand out, as it is completely different from everyone else s and no one has ever heard it before Yossarian himself. These differences alienate him from the rest of the squadron, save for a few of Yossarian s close friends, and make it seem like Yossarian is special in some way, even though it is revealed that he is not really much different than the rest of the squadron. Even though Yossarian is different in physical appearance and name then the rest of the squadron, it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Infamous Patchwork Mouse Case The universal principle that underlines all work conducted in the field of science is that the knowledge yielded from scientific discovery can never be considered to be indisputable truth as it is derived solely from the human perspective of the world and, to the greater extent, the tangible universe. As a result, theories brought forward that are considered to be factual one day can be justly discarded the next if enough evidence is produced to form a realised contradiction. It is due to this, therefore, that scienceholds great authority over how society is able to perceive its surroundings and consequently, how it allows human society to progress. Science is far from perfect . As it is conducted by human beings, it is only natural that mistakes and inconsistencies are likely to occur. However, there is a distinct line between work that is genuine and that of work that has been purposely falsified to produce a desired result. This is known as pseudoscience (or scientific misconduct) and is largely responsible for the wealth of controversy that has been brought upon science. In particular, this report will focus on a widely criticized and notorious case of scientific fraud, consisting of how it was perpetrated, what events transpired because of it, the motives of the accused, how the case is likely to bring harm to science and what measures can be employed to rectify any possible instances of future misconduct. • 11. I Am My Own Villain And Procrastination It s a race to the finish line in a typical workday in my world, and that finish line is what I label to be the time clock. I have allowed this small, compact technology device that is screwed into the concrete wall, to control my life Monday through Friday. I know without a doubt, that if I punch that small button on time, the rest of my day is guaranteed to be smooth sailing. You see, I m not a person that wakes up refreshed, smelling the Folders coffee in the morning, while birds are singing beautifully to me. I purposely pile on the stress and it creates this anxiety in my life, mainly in the mornings while racing to get ready and drive to work. I have no understanding to why I do this to myself, but I am my own villain and procrastination is my toxic poison. There are many people that have morning routines that they follow while getting ready, but me, I do whatever I want, when I want, and because of that, my morning time is limited. Some days I do not have time to pack a lunch, or even take our two dogs out to pee. Since my husband works third shift, I depend on him to come home and do it for me. Making the first move to get out of bed is always the toughest, plus getting ready for work is a preparation from hell. Then, I have to hustle and bustle, and drive like a mad woman to get to work on time. • 12. Parental Influences in Heathcliff, Cathy and Linton Essay... Emily BrontГ«, in her novel, Wuthering Heights, suggests that children, in their very nature, exhibit traits from their parental influences. However, these traits are not always represented at the same time and can come out in different situations. For instance, as Cathy Linton grows up, her personality is a mixture of her calmer father, Edgar, and her more fiery mother, Catherine. She shows both these personalities, but she limits each to the correct time and circumstance. Also, the same goes for Linton Heathcliff, who has become a mixture of both his mother, Isabella, and his father, Heathcliff. Lastly, this is shown in Hareton Earnshaw, who, because he has little to no relationship with his biological parents, has turned into a man more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although she never knew her mother, Cathy shows traits from both her parents. From Catherine, she gains a more fiery spirit, strength, and the ability to control. From Edgar, she gains a weaker, calmer, and more acceptable conduct in society. Cathy becomes the mixture of this unlikely pair. On one hand, she is calm and weak, and on the other hand, she is excitable and strong. Her personality depends on the situation and circumstance. However, these traits do not mix. She cannot be both strong and weak at the same time; she cannot be both hot and cold at the same time. An instance of her demonstrating more Earnshaw like characteristics is when she talks back to Heathcliff. She tells him that no one will ever love him, and he is unlovable. In her strength to yell at the much physically stronger Heathcliff and offend him, she shows him her own strength and power. This strength comes from the legacy of her mother, Catherine. Also, Cathy shows physical strength and power when she pushes Linton s chair down when they are in a fight. Cathy, beside herself, gave the chair a violent push, and caused him to fall against one arm (239). This shows her power over other people in the novel as Catherine did when she was a child. Cathy s Linton behavior is more present in her everyday actions. She is more refined and sophisticated, which is a characteristic of the Lintons. Because of these two sides ... • 14. The Complexity Of Sociological Concept Of Health And Illness The complexity of sociological concept of health and illness is not easy to define and measure. As was summarised by Nettleton (2013) and according to Blaxter (2010) the definition of health can be both negative and positive. On the one hand there is a medical model of health, which tends to be negative and it is based on body s ability to function and body s chemistry. This biomedical perspective describes healthas the absence of disease in measurable biological norm. On the other hand a positive definition, which is linked to well being of individual, stated that health is a complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity , was established by World Health Organisation (WHO) in 1948. Alternative and complementary medicine cannot challenge the dominance of biomedicine. As was summarised by Barry (2011) study of Illich (1993) stated that there are also harmful consequences of medical intervention. These implications of the power of medicine are referred to the term of Iatrogenesis, which implicates that without the medical intervention no harm would be done. Medical errors, negligence and adverse effect of drugs can affect patients health. Furthermore in some cases health professionals sometimes neglect patients right to inform about their health, which can play a major role in their process of recovery from illness. Illich (1993) also uses a term of medicalization of life where medical professionals, pharmaceutical companies promote sickness of society for their interest to gain power over society (ibid). Nettleton (2013) described medical model in the way that it is only aiming to restore body from disease to the normal state of being, free form any form or symptoms of disease. This matter is rather personal for individuals, what is normal and what is not tends to be subjective. Furthermore according to Walsh (2004) the biomedical model has been criticised and challenges since 1960 for only focusing on biological causes of illness. The critique is based on fact that this model is neglecting the impact of environmental, sociological and psychological aspects on health and illness. Famous study by McKeown (1979) provides another criticism of medical science by questioning their validity. McKeown thesis stated that growth of population in Western societies was mainly due to economic conditions, better nutrition and improvements of personal hygiene rather than improvements of ... Symbolism, Imagery and Allegory in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and A Streetcar Named Desire Tennessee Williams said, in the foreword to Camino Real, a symbol in a play has only one legitimate purpose, which is to say a thing more directly and simply and beautifully than it could be said in words. Symbolism is used, along with imagery and allegory to that effect in both Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and A Streetcar Named Desire. Both plays tend to share the same kinds of symbols and motifs; sometimes they achieve the same meaning, sometimes not. It is possible that Williams took elements from A Streetcar Named Desire to make Cat on a Hot Tin Roof a success. After the success of A Streetcar Named Desire, Williams next 2 plays The... The `click in Brick s head is his escape; it echoes the click of the phone when he hung up on Skipper. It means that he doesn t have to face the truth anymore just like he didn t with Skipper. The alcohol leads to the click and the click leads to escape. At the end of the play, Maggie removes both of Brick s crutches until he satisfies her physically in trying for a baby. This is symbolically forcing Brick to face the future before wallowing in the past. In A Streetcar Named Desire, one of the first things Blanche does when arriving at Elysian Fields is look around for some liquor (Streetcar p.120), just as she looks for an escape from her own past. This symbolism puts new meaning in Blanche s line [looking down at the glass, which shakes in her hand]: You re all I ve got in the world, and your not glad to see me! it leaves one wondering whether she is talking to Stella or to the liquor at this point. Both Brick and Blanche have idealised their pasts beyond reach. Brick sums this up, stating, those high hurdles have gotten too high for me, now. (Cat p. 53) This imagery of the high hurdles is symbolic of the unattainable past Brick strives for. Boxhill believes that Brick saw Skipper as a symbol of a marriage of pure souls (Boxhill p.113). • 19. Don Juan As Byron Introspective Essay The works of George Gordon, Lord Byron have long been controversial, nearly as controversial as his lifestyle. Gordon Byron was born with a clubfoot and his sensitivity to it haunted his life and his works. The young Byronwas often unhappy and lonely any many of his works seem to be a sort of introspective therapy. Childbirth is one of the greatest privileges on the earth anyone could have and we, as women, should feel proud to be major contributors for it. Thus, a mother has to play a key role in aiding the healthcare workers to mitigate the health crisis associated with childbirthby performing her duties faithfully. One such associated health crisis is Premature (preterm) birth which occurs when the baby is born too early, before 37 weeks of gestational period (CDC, 2015). The rate of preterm birth ranges from 5% to 18% of babies born across 184 countries (WHO, 2015). Premature birth is an important public health priority in terms of health of women and infants. Every year an estimated 15 million preterm babies are born and this number is still rising (WHO, 2015).In 2014, 1 of every 10 babies born in United States were premature and black infants were 50% more likely to be born premature than white, Hispanic and Asian/Pacific islander infants (CDC,2015). Almost 1 million children die each year due to complications of premature birth (WHO, 2015). Nitrogen oxides are formed during high temperature combustion processes from the oxidation of nitrogen in the air or fuel. The principal source of nitrogen oxides nitric oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), collectively known as NOx is road traffic, which is responsible for approximately half the emissions in Europe. NO and NO2 concentrations are therefore greatest in urban areas where traffic is heaviest. Other important sources are power stations, heating plants and industrial processes. Investigating The Conversion Of Hydrogen Peroxide Sandy Ibrahim 10/30/15 AP Biology Period 6 Lab Two: Enzyme Catalysis Introduction This lab will observe the conversion of hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen gas by the enzyme catalysis. The amount of oxygen generated will be measured and used to calculate the rate of the enzyme catalyzed reaction. Enzymes are proteins produced by living cells. Enzymes act as biochemical catalysts during a reaction, meaning they lower the activation energy needed for that reaction to occur. Through enzyme activity, cells gain the ability to carry out complex chemical activities at relatively low temperatures. The substance in an enzyme catalyzed reaction that is to be acted upon is the substrate, which comes together reversibly to the active site of the enzyme. The active site is the portion of the enzyme that interacts with the substrate. One result of this temporary union between the substrate and the active site is a reduction in the activation energy required to start the reaction of the substrate molecule so that products are formed. In a mathematical equation of the substrate (S) binding with the activation site (E) and forming products (P) is: E + S ES E + P Several ways enzyme action may be affected include: 1) Salt Concentration For example, if salt concentration is close to zero, the charged amino acid side chains of the enzyme molecules will attract each other. Power is also a reoccurring theme that is without a doubt well displayed in Othello, Much Ado About Nothing, Porphyria s Lover, Eveline, and My Last Duchess. In drama Othello, by Shakespeare, the title character suspects his wife Desdemona has been unfaithful with no proof and just the assumption of a friend. He publicly confronts Desdemona by hitting her and calling her a whore. Othellois in possession of power here because he publicly shows what he is capable of; he is not afraid to hit a woman. In short story Eveline, by James Joyce, Eveline and her younger brothers grow up in an abusive environment, with their father the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the play Much Ado About Nothing, by Shakespeare, Claudio has false knowledge when it comes to his fiance, Hero, being unfaithful, and proceeds to publicly confront her in front of their friends and family. In a later scene, Hero s cousin Beatrice suggests to Claudio s friend Benedick that he should kill Claudio because of his false accusations toward Hero. Beatrice has power because she is able to take advantage of Benedick s feeling for her and convince him to kill Claudio. These texts all include the similarity of abusive power. Irrational decisions and behaviors, such as murder and sanity, are often times the effect of abusive power. The drama Othello, by Shakespeare, and the short story Eveline, by James Joyce, both exemplify similar forms of power. During the course of the theatrical piece Othello, the protagonist is led on by Iago to believe his wife to be unfaithful. Whether Desdemona truly was dishonest is left ambiguous by the end. DESDEMONA: Why, sweet Othello OTHELLO: (striking her) Devil! DESDEMONA: I have not deserved this... OTHELLO: Oh, devil, devil! If that the earth could teem with woman s tears, Each drop she falls would prove a crocodile. Out of my sight! (Shakespeare). Othello confronts Desdemona about his apparent knowledge of her being unfaithful; publicly striking her and calling her a whore, even though he has no solid proof. I knew in order to earn the grade I wanted, I had to do speeches. I did not know the class would only be about 25 kids, so that made it easier. Professor Workman did her best to make sure we weren t nervous or had any anxiety before our speeches which helped a lot. Throughout the semester we had to do a total of 2 speeches. The reason for this being that the more agricultural products the county provides to export, the more profit that the country can make. With this being the case these farmers will purchase these lands. After a purchase is made the farmer then in turn can do as pleases. Farmers then destroy all trees upon the land in an effort to provide ideal cultivation areas to produce large cash crop products. Although they will use this land for generating food products, the main concern lies within the fact that soil in which they will be using is extremely low in nutrients. This meaning that every 2 to 3 years of usage the farmer will then be forced to expunge the used land followed by the obtaining of new lands. This in turn becomes a continual cycle where the farmers become parasites of the land, where day by day they will suck every ounce of life from the land until it is dry. Ranching is another cause for destruction of rainforests. Ranchers obtain land in the same method as farmers do, but however, they are not forced to move from land to land as the farmers do. Ranchers clear large areas of rainforest to become pastures for their cattle. This land does not cost them very much and often more then not the ranchers are able to collect this land for free, enabling them to sell cattle at relatively low prices. While it is very apparent to the reader that the main character can see physical objects just fine, one can also see that he clearly has a limit to that sight when it comes to emotional connections. As we follow the story, we can see the narrator transform and ultimately reach a breakthrough in the end. What is even worse is that the man Elizabeth dislikes the most is expressing his love towards her. While alone together, Darcy proposes, saying My feeling will not be repressed. • 48. What Is The Difference Between Creation And Creation Of... How were human beings created? How has life come to be? How was the earth created? These are some very important questions that humans have tried to answer for ages. In an attempt to answer these questions, different cultures around the world developed different beliefs. Some believe that they are many gods watching over them, while others believe that there is only one supreme God. Some believe that humans were created by an explosion while others believed that a God or gods created them. Today, I will be analyzing two different creation stories, Genesis, the Christian creation story and The Creation and Emergence story by the Jicarilla Apaches. While some differences between the two are evident, the similarities are noticeable. In both creation stories, in the beginning, there was nothing. There was no humans, animals, or planets. In the story, The Creation and the Emergence it says, In the beginning, there was nothing no earth, no living beings. There was only darkness, water, and Cyclone, the wind. They were no humans but only the Hactin, the Jicarilla supernatural beings. In the Christian creation story it is stated, In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the spirit of God was hovering over the waters. So in both of the stories, in the beginning, there was water and darkness. This shows that Christians and Jicarilla Apaches believed that the universewas at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
