2116 Lesley Ibbotson University Centre Barnsley Is the Beauty Therapy Qualification Meeting the
needs of the Industry? Introduction Many students who are undertaking, or have completed a Beauty
Therapy qualification, do so on the assumption that the skills and qualifications they gain will be
enough to secure them a job in the industry. The Babtac website states that only 60% of graduates find
employment within the first 6 months of completing their training and only 45% are still in employed
in the industry after two years. The low percentages could be influenced by several factors including
the current economic backdrop, over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The History of Training As stated earlier in the paper the course content has undergone several
changes over the past 10 years. The beauty industry has continued to grow nationally through the
economic downturn, with an 18 percent increase in the number of salons nationwide over the past
three years. The cosmetology industry never dies down, even in a recession, says Michelle Woodard,
admissions coordinator for Douglas J Aveda Institute in Grand Rapids. Everyone will always want to
look beautiful. At the outset of this period there was little demand for specialised treatments.
Therefore, the training requirements were geared up to obtain a standard set of skills for all graduates.
Over the past 3 years, as treatments become more varied, the courses have had to adapt and offer more
diverse qualifications. The awarding bodies have had to be aware that during this period of transition
too many employers remain confused and bewildered by the skills infrastructure. (BBC News
13.11.08). This is due to the qualification constantly changing and salon owners not being made aware
of these changes. This has been a factor the awarding bodies have had to consider when implementing
any changes. Courses used to involve the student attending college 5 days a week. This has been
changed for two reasons. The colleges have looked to reduce costs whilst maintaining the same level
of attendees. Also, many students could not make

Comparing Schizophrenia In A Beautiful Mind And The Soloist
Psychological disorder is a condition characterized by abnormal feelings, behaviors, and thoughts. For
my application paper I chose two movies, one is about John Forbs Nash Junior, and another one is
about Nathaniel Antony Ayers Junior. As you might have already guessed the movies are called A
Beautiful Mind , and The Soloist . In A Beautiful Mind Russell Crowe portrays one of the most
famous mathematicians of the 20th century John Nash, who attended Princeton University on
Carnegie scholarship. Schizophrenia is a psychological disorder that affects emotion, perception,
behavior and thought. Unlike identity disorder, schizophrenia does not involve a split personality. It is
a disorder through which behaviors, thoughts, and perceptions are ... Show more content on

During his delusional periods, he saw an imaginary roommate, named Charles. Nash s delusions
possessed complex character of their own. Charles, his roommate, had a niece named Marcie. An
official from Department of Defense, William Parcher, was also an imaginary figure. Parcher assigned
John to look for patterns in newspapers, and magazines, in order to prevent an invasion of Soviets.
Negative feelings also played a big role in Nash s life. His delusions were triggered by negative
emotions. In order to treat Nash doctors administered insulin shock therapies. His release was based
on condition that he was willing to take antipsychotic drug. However, medication had negative affect
on his academic and family life. Due to this he stopped the course of taking the medicine and in return
his condition became much worse. Nash was not able to avoid his delusions, and they continued to
haunt him. I think the movie s goal was to entertain, not to enlighten. It does a good job in illustrating
the concept of schizophrenia and shows the crucial importance of taking medications in order to ease
the pain and get a sharper

Who Is Sylvia In A White Heron
In A White Heron by Sarah Orne Jewett, Sylvia, a city girl moves to her grandmother s farm and
immediately falls in love with the forest that surrounds the farm. Although only ten, nature is not all
she begins to take interest in, she is also at an age and place where she wants to form friendships.
Shortly after moving from the city, Sylvia meets a young hunter who she seems to take interest in. The
Hunter asks Sylvia is she knew the whereabouts of a heron that he had been seeking for quite some
time. He tells her that if she knew, he would give her ten dollars. Sylvia is faced with a hard decision
whether or not to tell the hunter where the heron lived not just because of the money but to also create
a friendship with him. On the other hand Sylvia wants to follow her newly developed love for nature
and protect the heron. She must decide whether to keep nature in balance and protect it or form a
relationship with the hunter by telling him where the white heron lives to add it to his collection of
stuffed birds. The central idea in the story is that even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I say this because she protects the forest, more specifically the heron. She stands up for what she
believes in and although she is tempted to help the hunter not only for money but also for a
relationship, Sylvia turns down the hunters bribe. Sylvia although only ten separates the right from the
wrong and weighs the options based on how it would not only affect her but also nature (the heron).
The antagonist in the story is the hunter. Although polite he still tries to bribe Sylvia for the
whereabouts of the herons nest. He creates the internal conflict that Sylvia has to deal with. One critic
writes Sylvia should be older, for her matureness. Now I don t know for sure what aspects the critic
might be talking about but I think she is referring to how Sylvia is able to set aside her emotional
needs to protect the white heron and keep nature in its natural

Comparison Of Feminism In The Arabian Nights
Dasha Kofman
Arabian Nights Paper
11/14/17
Abstract
In my paper I will discuss how Sharazade s role as a woman allows her to act as an advocate for
female empowerment, through literature and storytelling. Initially, I will focus on the feminist role of
Sharazade and how she is placed within her circumstances: 1001 nights of storytelling to the King to
spare her life and the masses of woman after her. I will then go on to examine how Sharazade
champions the case of feminine within her tales. She does so by intertwining female characters of
power and intelligence. I will then go on to examine how women are viewed within the story, from
slaves to warriors. Finally, I will take both Sharazades perception of feminism and how they are
viewed within the story to examine their value within the story s setting, and the greater world.
Sharazade reveals the harsh truth behind how women are portrayed in literature and the intensity in
which they are finalized. She is allowing us to understand that women can not be placed under an
umbrella term, but rather are distinct individuals who play in the structure of society both good and
bad. Although they are portrayed as such, women aren t just women but are first and foremost, people.
Shahrazad: Icon of Feminism
The Arabian Nights also known as One Thousand and One Nights is a tale about Shahryar whom the
reader refers to as the Sasanian king. Shahrazade, the heroine of The Arabian Nights, has been noted
as a women s activist figure in literature, a woman who utilizes her intelligence to spare not only her
own life, but the lives of women to come. In the frame story, King Shahriyar find out that his wife is
committing adultery. The king then begins to order for virgins to satisfy his sexual pleasures and kill
them before they commit the same atrocities. Every night for three years, he took a virgin to his bed
and then killed her in the morning. When the virgins run out, the daughter offers herself and the tales
of 1001 Nights begins; These tales often criticized by many people who argue that women are not
tools to satisfy a man s pleasures. Her plan is simple yet cunning she uses stories of thrill and marvel
to keep herself alive as long as it takes to save the

Mergers Case Study
The most obvious trend for these 26 mergers is that banks with asset size under the threshold of
100MM are essentially going extinct. In the past five years, ten of these said banks have been
purchased. While ten have been purchased since 2012, only 19 remain as of 7/17, 11 of these
remaining banks being state regulated. This trend is generated by a larger underlying problem, these
banks seemingly face immense struggles to make a profit. Of the ten banks closed, only two were
above average in earnings compared to the entire group of purchased banks, and even worse, three of
the banks were losing money at the time of consolidation. The banks that were largely profitable
gained mainly from non core earnings, not from loans and other core ... Show more content on

This number can fundamentally be explained by the merger of Your Community Bank into Wesbanco.
Your Community bank was a healthy and profitable bank with 1,549MM in assets that chose to sell,
seemingly to cash out and to exit the business of banking. In all, six mergers involve a non state
regulated bank being integrated into the DFI s scope, and four mergers involving a state regulated
bank exiting the DFI s scope. The types of banks that are commonly acquired encompasses a large
range, however, than can be sorted by commonalities. At the simplest form, two types of banks get
acquired, banks that make money, and banks that struggle making money. Obviously, if a bank cannot
make a profit, it must either be taken on by another institution or liquidated. For banks that do make
money; they seem to be sold because of a strong offer from the acquiring institution, the opportunity
to move on to other business ventures, and to ease personal stress and responsibility. Banks that are
trying to grow quickly like to take on banks around 1/5 the size they are currently. With the largest
merger since 2012 being 26%. Three banks seeking growth, First Merchants, Old National, and
Horizon, account for about 70% of the total assets that have been purchased. Within my look back
period, Horizon has made six purchases totaling 1641MM of total acquisitions. These acquisitions
have pushed Horizon to more than double in

Granpa Chook In Bryce Courtenay s The Power Of One
In Bryce Courtenay s The Power of One, The killing of Granpa Chook was a traumatic moment for
Peekay. His only friend at school symbolized companionship and comfort, and Peekay cared deeply
for him. It was amongst the low points of his horrifying boarding school experience, and the events
surrounding the chicken s death displayed the cruelty of the world to Peekay. Most importantly,
however, it revealed the extreme loyalty and bravery of the future welterweight champion. Granpa
Chook may have been a mere chicken to the uninitiated, but was important to Peekay. Granpa Chook
seemed to be the only friendly face to him, even if it was poultry. This was desperately needed for the

in response. After a salvo of slingshot fire, Granpa Chook, the best damn chicken in the world, was

given. It surely was gutting for Peekay to see his best friend killed right next to him, and for the first
time, he realized the ultimate level of cruelty: murder of a defenseless individual. Moreover, his
willingness to sacrifice himself for others appears first here but is not a one time occurrence. It was a
recurring reminder of his bravery and loyalty. Within a couple of years, his bravery is exhibited again.

Essay about Freedom Riders
Freedom Riders Freedom Riders were a group of people, both black and white, who were civil rights
activists from the North who meant to demonstrate that segregated travel on interstate buses, even
though banned by an I.C.C. Ruling, were still being enforced throughout much of the South (The
South 16). The Riders attempted to prove this by having a dozen or so white and black Freedom
Riders board buses in the North and travel through Southern cities. This was all a coldly calculated
attempt to speed up integration by goading the South, forcing the Southern extremists to explode their
tempers ( Freedom Riders 20). The author of the Newsweek article stated this as the Southern opinion
of the reason for the Freedom Riders. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Several incidents of beatings were reported, sometimes with simple weapons, other times with
weapons of mass destruction conducted by local citizens as the freedom riders passed through their
city. Very often, the cops were conspicuously absent when the blood began to flow (The South 16).
One particularly violent incident on May 14, 1961 occurred when someone threw a bomb into a
window of an interstate bus. When the twelve passengers on the bus exited because of the smoke and
flames, the waiting mob pulverize beat some of passengers up. The police arrested four men in
conjunction with the bombing, yet the four men were only charged with willful damage to vehicles in
interstate commerce (State is Warned 1). The fact that this incident was taken so lightly is appalling.
Clearly these men should have been punished or convicted more severely. The hurt freedom riders
were taken to the local hospital, and none were seriously injured. We examined two articles about the
bus bombing incident, one from Time and one from the New York Times. The Time article gave a
much more general overview of the incident, and lacked some details, such as who was arrested and
why, and the response of the government. The New York Times article discussed this information in
great detail. It includes the names of the perpetrators and the reason for their arrest. It also discusses
the response of Attorney General Robert Kennedy, who

Middle-Range Theory
Theory Scope Categorizing the Theory Scope, the first step of theory analysis, involves describing the
abstractness of their theory concepts and propositions. While the scope of the grand theory is
nonspecific, the scope of the middle range theory is more specific and limited. A middle range theory,
additionally, can be classified in terms of descriptive, explanatory, or predictive. Leventhal et al. did
not identify the type of their theory. However, the words and sentences that they mentioned in the
CSM can categorize as a middle range theory. The CSM was proposed to provide the framework for
depicting the self regulation when individuals have to encounter stress caused by an illness and
understanding the processes involved in problem coping. Leventhal et al. described that the CSM
consists of three core concepts: representation of illness, coping, and coping appraisal. The
relationship between the concepts was presented in the parallel processing system that interact as the
individual adapts to each specific situation. These processes lead individuals to seek health care for
acute illnesses and manage their illness for chronic conditions. Additionally, the CSM was used as a
theoretical framework in research and applied in practice, particularly psychological, behavioral, and
nursing fields. The results of study can make possible intervention which would help patients develop
valid coping processes. Consequently, The CSM can be classified as a middle range predictive theory.

five components:
▪ the nursing metaparadigm of concepts and propositions
▪ the philosophical claims on which the theory is based
▪ the reflection of world view in the theory
▪ the conceptual model from which the theory was derived
▪ the antecedent knowledge from nursing and non nursing disciplines used in the theory

Examples Of Sacrifice In My Antonia
The Sacrifices of Immigrant American s Dreams
Sacrificing is the hardest thing to do to achieve the American dream. My Antonia by Willa Cather is
about an immigrant girl named Antonia, seeks adventures of living in Nebraska with her family.
Cather wrote stories from other immigrant families who are living in Nebraska. The novel offers
numerous elements of the hard working foreigner pioneers in the prairies, especially the hardships
endured by women. In the story My Antonia, Willa Cather emphasizes the theme of sacrifices just as a
crucial part necessary for the young immigrant girls to accomplish their American dreams.

Japanese Samurai Film Genre Essay example
The feature film seven samurai uses aspects of Japanese samurai film genre to influence the viewing
audience. The film directed by Akira Kurosawa, has a storyline of a lost samurai, responding to a
villages appeal for defence against vicious bandits. The main character Kambei gathers another six
samurai to help. They teach the peasants of the village to defend themselves, as the film climaxes into
an epic fight of samurai, peasants and 40 bandits. The movie uses features of Japanese samurai films
such as the focus on the katana sword, Helpless peasants looking for samurai to assist them and the
setting of the film around the tokugawa era.

The peasant s persued for help and the samurai Kambei killed the kidnapper and showed everyone
how wise he was. These are all scenes that can persuade the audience in thinking that the samurai are
helpful and powerful. The general appreciation of samurai from the peasants also controls how the
film influences the audience. The peasant s characteristics are generous and appreciative towards the
samurais. In scenes you see the peasants give food to the samurai and the conflict between the
samurais and peasants is very little. The peasants seek the samurais help, while on the other hand
appreciate them but in the end the story takes a turn.
The feature film is also focused around the tokugawa era. Also known as the edo era, Japanese society
was under the control of the Tokugawa shogunate and the country s 250 and more regional leaders.
The time was recognized by the economic expansion and strict social hierarchy. The setting is based
around a village controlled by an old wise man and framers, this really betrays the tokugawa era as the
characterisation of the huts and rice fields portray the time around the 1600s to 1800s. The bandits
riding horses at the introduction influence the audience that the film is set around the tokugawa era.
Samurai increasingly became courtiers and administrators rather than warriors in tokugawa era, there
was no warfare since the early 17th century and samurai gradually lost their military function.

Social Pressures Reflected in Ginsberg s Howl Essay
Social Pressures Reflected in Ginsberg s Howl
Post World War II America produced a number of images that will be forever imprinted on the minds
of Americans. Such images as television shows like Leave It To Beaver and I Love Lucy, movies such
as An Affair To Remember, and Brigadoon, are watched frequently even in today s society. But in this
world of fairytale movies and the American Dream, what about those who didn t fit into the picture of
perfection and prosperity? These men became the basis of an underground network of dissident
writers, teachers, artists and filmmakers. Often a reaction against the strict standards of normalcy held

Such is the same in Howl.
Ginsberg does not spare the innocent reader. When one analyzes the social power of Ginsberg s
statements, one can come easily to the conclusion that society was not exactly welcoming to Ginsberg,
and he reacted to that through his writing, especially in Howl.
The second portion of Howl is commonly considered by critics to be the most complicated for the
average mind to comprehend. In this section, nearly every thing is described as a Moloch. Moloch, in
mythology was a God to whom children were sacrificed. Now, the term is commonly used to describe
anything responsible for destroying innocence. In Part II, Ginsberg describes nearly everything about
American culture to be a Moloch. Even society s viewpoints are Molochs. In a way, Ginsberg is
calling America itself a Moloch, and then continuing to describe parts of the whole.
Moloch whose mind is pure machinery! Moloch whose blood is running money! Moloch whose
fingers are ten armies! Moloch whose breast is a cannibal dynamo! Moloch whose ear is a smoking
tomb! (Ginsberg 21)
America is evil to Ginsberg because of the feelings of hatred and repulsion the society builds in him.
The third section of Howl is a striking contrast to the other two parts.

The Probability Of Picking A Starfish
Instruct
Many students get confused when learning about fractions. At our grade level we teach about parts of
a whole, equal shares, and partitioning.
1. Starfish, shark, whale and dolphin probability:
The probability of picking a starfish will equal the number of starfish (3) divided by the total number
(10). Therefore, the probability of the student picking a starfish is 3/10.
The probability of picking a shark will be 3 sharks out of 10. This equals 3/10
The probability of whales will be 3/10 and the probability of dolphins will be 1/10.
2. How are the probabilities affected if each student replaces his or her sea animal after picking it?
When a student replaces their sea animal, nothing will change. On the first pull, the probability of
getting a starfish is 3/10, because there are 10 sea animals and 3 of them are starfish. If that starfish is
replaced (put back in the fishpond), the probability for the second pull is still 3/10, and that means the
events are independent. The result of one trial does not affect the result of another. Probabilities
remain the same.
3. Select one of the sea animals. Give an example of how the probabilities are changed if that sea
animal is replaced or not replaced after a student picks it out of the fishpond.
Suppose a student picks out a sea animal at random from the fish pond, then replaces it and a second
animal is chosen. If replaced, the probability of choosing a starfish and then a dolphin is; P(Starfish)=

A Closer Look At Autonomous Vehicles Essay
A Closer Look at Autonomous Vehicles Many great technological feats have been accomplished in the
past few years, one of the most notable would be the creation of self driving cars. Along with the topic
of what can be done with this technology, there is also the topic of what should be done with the
technology from an ethical standpoint. Self driving cars while not perfected are worth their
innumerous benefits, despite the current limitations and drawbacks. Every year there are numerous
incidents where the driver is responsible for a crash or even death. A self driving car could be the very
solution necessary to solving the abundance of accidents that occur daily across the nation. There are
different levels of automation ranging on the amount of the drivers control of the vehicles. This
technology is already being implemented in creative and helpful ways, and has been successfully
tested. Self driving cars are something that s new, it s something that has only just been implemented
in the past few years, and will be continually implemented and improved upon. Currently autonomous
cars are limited to actions such as parallel parking, brake assist, and lane detection. In the near future
experts are predicting fully autonomous self driving cars with little to no human interaction. Currently
self driving vehicles are described from levels 0 4, 0 being no automated assistance, to level 4 where
the car can perform all safety‐critical driving functions and monitor roadway

two type of phases meiosis I and meiosis II. In the prophase I, homologous chromosomes in the
nucleus begin to pair up with one another and then split into chromatids where crossing over can
occur. For metaphase I, the chromosomes will align at the equator of the cell. The bivalents are
aligned randomly increasing the genetic variation via independent assortment. In the anaphase 1, the
homologous chromosomes move to opposing poles from the equator. A new nuclei will be formed

Existentialism as Exemplified in ‘the Seventh Seal’
Existentialism as Exemplified in The Seventh Seal
The Seventh Seal is a 1957 Swedish film written and directed by Ingmar Bergman. The film offers
interwoven storyline. It starts with a game of chess between a medieval knight, Antonius Block, and
Death in which if Block won, Death will prolong the knight s life. This game goes on in intermittent
times.
The knight is accompanied by his squire, Jöns, as they go back to the knight s castle to be reunited
with his wife. Throughout their journey, they come across various characters and people in the village
who are struggling amidst the impending death brought about by the Black Plague.
Block and Jöns met Jof and Mia, the couple who work as actors. There they have conversed with each

The existence of a Supreme Being is being summoned in situations where people are in need of such
assistance. Truly a remarkable film, The Seventh Seal effectively portrays this question in sight of
existentialism. God, neither the devil, was not present. There was even a scene where Block asked the
woman accused of having contact with the devil to summon the devil so that Block will be able to ask
about the about the existence of God. Block was not able to see anything. As it turns out, the woman
was falsely accused by the priest.
Block came to a point where he asked the existence of God when he confesses to Death, disguised as a
priest but Death himself did not give answers to this. Even at the end of the film, Death did not
explain this to Block. Quoting Block, My life has been a futile pursuit, a wandering, a great deal of
talk without meaning. I feel no bitterness or self reproach because the lives of most people are very
much like this. In what pursuit did he wasted his time into? Perhaps he was pertaining to his search for
the existence of God.
Aside from Block, a more existential character than him is introduced his squire, Jöns. In Jöns
conversation with the painter in the church, he mentioned that, This is squire Jöns. He grins at Death,
mocks the Lord, laughs at himself and leers at the girls. His world is a Jöns world, believable only to
himself, ridiculous to all including himself, meaningless to Heaven and of no

sides of conflict. Although the Holocaust is the most well known genocide, people often forget that
genocides still happen and that some have ended only recently.
One genocide that occurred after World War II was in the 1970 s. The Cambodian genocide lasted
from 1975 till 1979 and was caused by a number of events. In 1970 Cambodia s ruler, Prince
Sihanouk, was deposed in a military coup. A new right wing government was established and a
lieutenant general, Lon Nol, was made president of the Khmer Republic. Sihanouk and his followers
joined forces with a communist guerrilla organization lead by Pol Pot known as the Khmer Rouge.
They attacked Lon Nol s army and a Civil war broke out. Cambodia was also caught up in the
Vietnam war by becoming part of the battlefield. The Khmer Rouge and Pol Pot were suspicious of
Vietnam s relations with Cambodia and Lon Nol s Collaboration with

In Mary Wollstonecraft s Of Pernicious Effects Which Arise...
Mary Wollstonecraft, an American writer and advocate for women s rights from the late 1700s, was
born into a world much different from modern Western society. As Wollstonecraft explains in her
passage, Of Pernicious Effects Which Arise from the Unnatural Distinctions Established in Society,
eighteenth century America granted women with hardly the same amount of privilege, opportunity,
and education as it granted men. Wollstonecraft also explains how wealth often corrupts both women
and men. Since Wollstonecraft s time, women s struggles have yielded victories that have led to
advancements toward a more equal society, although inequality and corruption among the wealthy still
remains to this day.
Women in Wollstonecraft s time were only valued for their attractiveness, were only useful for their
role as a mother, and were not given the right to an education nor the right to jobs. Wollstonecraft
observes that when a women is admired for her beauty, she suffers herself to be...intoxicated by the
admiration she receives as to neglect...the indispensable duty of a mother, she sins against herself by
neglecting to cultivate an affection that would equally tend to make her useful and happy
(Wollstonecraft 6). In other words, women getting so wrapped up in presenting themselves as
beautiful in order to meet society s standards then completely neglect their natural role as a mother
that would make them useful by society s standards by fulfilling the only role they really could at the
time: a mother. Instead of being praised for being a virtuous mother, women were valued solely for
their sexual attractiveness. Once their beauty fades and they have already birthed and raised their
children, as Wollstonecraft states, let them not expect to be valued (32). During Wollstonecraft s time,
a typical woman was dependent on her husband s bounty for her subsistence during his life or support
after his death (19). A woman did not have any other job than to be impregnated and raise her husband
s offspring, meaning she had to be financially dependent on her husband. Women could not study the
art of healing nor be physicians [or] nurses jobs Wollstonecraft argued women might certainly study
given the opportunity

Robin Williams Research Paper
Robin Williams is a Chicago grown American man who is best known for his fast paced
improvisational humor and for the star he received on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on December

personal life, Robin Williams career still largely affected America and provided quality entertainment
and joy to millions and millions of people. Robins childhood, as ordinary as it seemed, was a big
contributor to his career later on. Robin McLaurin Williams was born in Chicago, IL on July 21st,
1951. He was overweight as a child and didn t really have many friends. To pass the time he would
speak in funny voices for entertainment. (A E bio.com). This is how he developed many of his
characters dialects and personalities. In his high school years he was voted most humorous . That one
doesn t seem to odds but he was also voted least likely to succeed , which is very ironic concerning his
successes later in life. One of Robins brothers, Robert Todd Williams, was an actor but he passed

Name

Abstract
Poliomyelitis (polio) is an infectious disease caused by the polio virus and is spread from person to
person through faecal oral transmission which means; stool entering the mouth or consumption of
food containing stool from an infection person. The poliovirus resides in the intestinal tract and mucus
in the nose and throat. Contact with infected respiratory secretions or even saliva can cause poliovirus
transmission. This mode of transmission is known as oral oral transmission. Polio became prevalent in
the United States of America (U.S) in the 1940s and 1950s.this was followed by outbreaks of the
disease that crippled tens of thousands in North America. Polio eradication is aimed at reducing the
global incidence of polio to zero through deliberate efforts to a point that it requires no further control.
Polio eradication is to be achieved through interruption of endemic transmission of poliovirus through
vaccination. This saw the wide use of the inactivated polio virus (IPV) that was administered orally
(OPV); oral polio vaccine. Polio free U.S Polio eradication is defined as the reduction to zero of
global incidence of poliomyelitis through deliberate efforts to a point that it requires no further control
measures. High rates of vaccination are at the center of polio eradication in the U.S. Vaccinations help
eradicate polio through interruption of endemic transmission

Disadvantages Of E-Commerce
As described by Reynolds, E commerce takes several forms, including business to business (B2B),
business to consumer (B2C), consumer to consumer (C2C), and e government (e gov). It s any type of
organization, or that includes the transfer of information across the Internet. It covers a range of
different types of businesses, from consumer based retail sites, through auction or music sites, to
business exchanges trading goods and services between corporations. It is currently one of the most
important aspects of the Internet to emerge (Reynolds, 2016). While there are multiple factors of e
commerce operation for retail interacting with its customers the three primary benefits are effective
customer service, convenience, easy and timely efficient orders.
As technology has evolved it has transformed society for many people around the world. Within the
last few years e Commerce has become one of the ideal ways of shopping as individuals enjoy online
shopping because of its easiness and convenience. The ease of buying products or services from the
privacy of your own home anytime of the day. Buying options are reduced to a minimum with the
ability to transfer funds online. Because of its accessibility, consumers can save time as well as money

children, he spent much of his childhood in solitude. Showing little initiative, he was guided into art as
a possible direction. The family moved to Grimsby when he turned twelve and, despite an active early
passion in acting, his parents thought less of it and enrolled him at the Grimsby Art School and St.

Horse Trainer Research Paper
Ever since I can remember, I have always loved horses. At one point in my life I thought that I would
have a career that involved animals, well one animal in particular, horses. I would probably be a horse
trainer. So when I got older I was more than happy to find out that I could spend time with them by
volunteering. The first time that I volunteered, I was fourteen years old, and I had found a great
program that dealt with disabled children called HorseSense. I have always liked to help people, and
not to mention, I would be able to be around one of my favorite animals in the world, horses. This was
my very first time with any real responsibility, where I would be held accountable for my actions.
Responsibility, that word conjures many emotions, in many different ways that we are responsible. Be
it in the form of a parent, teacher, student, employee or perhaps all of the above. As for me, at the
tender age of fourteen I was put in a position of responsibility when I started to volunteer. HorseSense,
is a therapeutic riding program for disabled children. The program can help build your motor skills,
self esteem and confidence in yourself. The lesson is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The New Colossus Immigration
Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, are a few of Emma
Lazarus words that are forever inscribed on one of the nation s most beloved monuments in New York
City, the Statue of Liberty (The New Colossus by Emma Lazarus). This poem defines the nation for its
longstanding relationship with refugees, yet, the issue has created controversy throughout the years,
specifically during the recent presidential election. Many believe immigrants and refugees have no
right to live in the United States, while others yield completely different, polarized opinions.
Personally, I believe that the United States should not enforce extreme restrictions on immigrants who
desire freedom in the form of fleeing to this country. Those who oppose this claim believe immigrants
will debilitate the economy, enter the country illegally, and potentially harm Americans. However,
these individuals do not take into account how America was built in the first place, how to effectively
strengthen the nation s borders, and the factual data that proves the majority of immigrants do not
threaten the safety of Americans.
First and foremost, the foundation of America was undoubtedly built by the hands of refugees when
the Puritans fled England in an attempt to escape religious persecution by Queen Mary I. Ever ...

Maya Angelou Research Paper
Maya Angelou once said My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with
some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style. and I think she completely lived up to
that with the life she lived, and the things she accomplished in it. Maya Angelou, or as she was
originally called Marguerite Annie Johnson, was born on April 4, 1928, in St. Louis, Missouri. Maya
Angelou was an American Poet, a storyteller, a civil rights activist, a singer, a songwriter, a dancer, a
director, a historian, a teacher, an actor, and an autobiographer. Growing up in St.Louis Angelou

Going back to school, she didn t really feel like she belonged. At one point of her life, Maya feared

and decides to be in a relationship with one of them. After realizing that it is not satisfying her, she
ends it. Three weeks later, she finds out she s pregnant. She ends up giving birth to a son, and is so
amused by the baby that she is afraid to even touch him. However eventually, her mother makes her
sleep on the bed with her son to prove to her that nothing will happen to him, and from then on, she
wasn t afraid anymore. This book was a very detailed view of Maya s life, especially because it was an
autobiography and she was the author. I found out so much that I never knew about her, and I was
very interested. She had such a hard life, but still managed to make it a life worth living, and worth

Figurative Language In The Alchemist
The Alchemist Figurative Language Coelho uses a simile in the sentence; The Alchemist fell as silent
as the desert (Coelho 142). Coelho gives a sense of comparison between the absence of the alchemist s
voice and the silence of the desert. Coelho compares books to caravans in a simile by using the word
like; Books are like caravans in that respect (Coelho 78). Coelho indicates that one can learn as much
on a caravan as from books. Coelho gave a touch of life to the Sun and wind by personification; In my
travels around the world, I ve often seen people speaking of love and looking toward the heavens, the
wind said, (Coelho 240). From where I am, the sun said, I can see the Soul of the World (Coelho 242).
By adding personification, the author made it seem as if the Sun and wind actually have human
characteristics. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The world doesn t speak but the author states this to say that the world can tell many things to one
who listens to it. The author refers to foreshadowing to give the reader a little sneak peek; He took the
fourth part and handed it to the monk. This is for the boy. If he ever needs it (Coelho 252). When the
monk is given the fourth piece of gold, it foreshadows that Santiago will return. Coelho applied some
irony towards the end of the novel; An hour later, he had before him a chest of Spanish gold coins
(Coelho 268). It is ironic for Santiago to travel all the way to Egypt only to discover that the treasure
he was seeking was right under the place where he had dreamed it. Coelho makes use of a metaphor;
The desert is a capricious lady, and sometimes she drives men crazy (Coelho 71). He compares the
desert to a woman s mood changes because of the constant weather changes in the

of one supercontinent and the formation of another. A speaker will explain how the Paleozoic Era was

things began to change plants became widespread, and the first vertebrate animals colonized the lands.
It would then show how the supercontinent divided and briefly cover each time period within the

Eugene Shepard Characterization
During 1893, in Rhineland, Wisconsin a mythical beast had emerged from the wilderness. Eugene
Shepard, who was a local resident and elder in Rhineland, was out on his weekly hike when he
stumbled across an odd creature. This creature was green, about a foot tall, seven feet long, and
weighed about 200 hundred pounds. It had razor sharp teeth like a saber tooth tiger, white long claws,
spikes of all sizes running all down its spine, and red glowing eyes that one could not help but stare
into. Not sure what to do, Shepard hurried back to town to tell everyone his discovery. Town folk and
lumberjacks gathered weapons, guns, and dogs to search for this newly discovered Hodag. He led his

Conference Paper Conference Paper Outline for Studies in Teaching a Specialist Subject, DID7230 Cert Ed Word Count 2116 Lesley Ibbotson University Centre Barnsley Is the Beauty Therapy Qualification Meeting the needs of the Industry? Introduction Many students who are undertaking, or have completed a Beauty Therapy qualification, do so on the assumption that the skills and qualifications they gain will be enough to secure them a job in the industry. The Babtac website states that only 60% of graduates find employment within the first 6 months of completing their training and only 45% are still in employed in the industry after two years. The low percentages could be influenced by several factors including the current economic backdrop, over ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The History of Training As stated earlier in the paper the course content has undergone several changes over the past 10 years. The beauty industry has continued to grow nationally through the economic downturn, with an 18 percent increase in the number of salons nationwide over the past three years. The cosmetology industry never dies down, even in a recession, says Michelle Woodard, admissions coordinator for Douglas J Aveda Institute in Grand Rapids. Everyone will always want to look beautiful. At the outset of this period there was little demand for specialised treatments. Therefore, the training requirements were geared up to obtain a standard set of skills for all graduates. Over the past 3 years, as treatments become more varied, the courses have had to adapt and offer more diverse qualifications. The awarding bodies have had to be aware that during this period of transition too many employers remain confused and bewildered by the skills infrastructure. (BBC News 13.11.08). This is due to the qualification constantly changing and salon owners not being made aware of these changes. This has been a factor the awarding bodies have had to consider when implementing any changes. Courses used to involve the student attending college 5 days a week. This has been changed for two reasons. The colleges have looked to reduce costs whilst maintaining the same level of attendees. Also, many students could not make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparing Schizophrenia In A Beautiful Mind And The Soloist Psychological disorder is a condition characterized by abnormal feelings, behaviors, and thoughts. For my application paper I chose two movies, one is about John Forbs Nash Junior, and another one is about Nathaniel Antony Ayers Junior. As you might have already guessed the movies are called A Beautiful Mind , and The Soloist . In A Beautiful Mind Russell Crowe portrays one of the most famous mathematicians of the 20th century John Nash, who attended Princeton University on Carnegie scholarship. Nash s delusions possessed complex character of their own. Charles, his roommate, had a niece named Marcie. An official from Department of Defense, William Parcher, was also an imaginary figure. Parcher assigned John to look for patterns in newspapers, and magazines, in order to prevent an invasion of Soviets. Negative feelings also played a big role in Nash s life. His delusions were triggered by negative emotions. In order to treat Nash doctors administered insulin shock therapies. His release was based on condition that he was willing to take antipsychotic drug. However, medication had negative affect on his academic and family life. Due to this he stopped the course of taking the medicine and in return his condition became much worse. Nash was not able to avoid his delusions, and they continued to haunt him. I think the movie s goal was to entertain, not to enlighten. It does a good job in illustrating the concept of schizophrenia and shows the crucial importance of taking medications in order to ease the pain and get a sharper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Who Is Sylvia In A White Heron In A White Heron by Sarah Orne Jewett, Sylvia, a city girl moves to her grandmother s farm and immediately falls in love with the forest that surrounds the farm. Although only ten, nature is not all she begins to take interest in, she is also at an age and place where she wants to form friendships. Shortly after moving from the city, Sylvia meets a young hunter who she seems to take interest in. The Hunter asks Sylvia is she knew the whereabouts of a heron that he had been seeking for quite some time. He tells her that if she knew, he would give her ten dollars. Sylvia is faced with a hard decision whether or not to tell the hunter where the heron lived not just because of the money but to also create a friendship with him. On the other hand Sylvia wants to follow her newly developed love for nature and protect the heron. She must decide whether to keep nature in balance and protect it or form a relationship with the hunter by telling him where the white heron lives to add it to his collection of stuffed birds. Although polite he still tries to bribe Sylvia for the whereabouts of the herons nest. He creates the internal conflict that Sylvia has to deal with. One critic writes Sylvia should be older, for her matureness. Now I don t know for sure what aspects the critic might be talking about but I think she is referring to how Sylvia is able to set aside her emotional needs to protect the white heron and keep nature in its natural ... • 5. Comparison Of Feminism In The Arabian Nights Dasha Kofman Arabian Nights Paper 11/14/17 Abstract In my paper I will discuss how Sharazade s role as a woman allows her to act as an advocate for female empowerment, through literature and storytelling. Initially, I will focus on the feminist role of Sharazade and how she is placed within her circumstances: 1001 nights of storytelling to the King to spare her life and the masses of woman after her. I will then go on to examine how Sharazade champions the case of feminine within her tales. She does so by intertwining female characters of power and intelligence. I will then go on to examine how women are viewed within the story, from slaves to warriors. Finally, I will take both Sharazades perception of feminism and how they are viewed within the story to examine their value within the story s setting, and the greater world. Sharazade reveals the harsh truth behind how women are portrayed in literature and the intensity in which they are finalized. She is allowing us to understand that women can not be placed under an umbrella term, but rather are distinct individuals who play in the structure of society both good and bad. Although they are portrayed as such, women aren t just women but are first and foremost, people. Shahrazad: Icon of Feminism The Arabian Nights also known as One Thousand and One Nights is a tale about Shahryar whom the reader refers to as the Sasanian king. Shahrazade, the heroine of The Arabian Nights, has been noted as a women s activist figure in literature, a woman who utilizes her intelligence to spare not only her own life, but the lives of women to come. In the frame story, King Shahriyar find out that his wife is committing adultery. The king then begins to order for virgins to satisfy his sexual pleasures and kill them before they commit the same atrocities. Every night for three years, he took a virgin to his bed and then killed her in the morning. When the virgins run out, the daughter offers herself and the tales of 1001 Nights begins; These tales often criticized by many people who argue that women are not tools to satisfy a man s pleasures. Her plan is simple yet cunning she uses stories of thrill and marvel to keep herself alive as long as it takes to save the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Mergers Case Study The most obvious trend for these 26 mergers is that banks with asset size under the threshold of 100MM are essentially going extinct. In the past five years, ten of these said banks have been purchased. While ten have been purchased since 2012, only 19 remain as of 7/17, 11 of these remaining banks being state regulated. This trend is generated by a larger underlying problem, these banks seemingly face immense struggles to make a profit. Of the ten banks closed, only two were above average in earnings compared to the entire group of purchased banks, and even worse, three of the banks were losing money at the time of consolidation. The banks that were largely profitable gained mainly from non core earnings, not from loans and other core ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This number can fundamentally be explained by the merger of Your Community Bank into Wesbanco. Your Community bank was a healthy and profitable bank with 1,549MM in assets that chose to sell, seemingly to cash out and to exit the business of banking. In all, six mergers involve a non state regulated bank being integrated into the DFI s scope, and four mergers involving a state regulated bank exiting the DFI s scope. The types of banks that are commonly acquired encompasses a large range, however, than can be sorted by commonalities. At the simplest form, two types of banks get acquired, banks that make money, and banks that struggle making money. Obviously, if a bank cannot make a profit, it must either be taken on by another institution or liquidated. For banks that do make money; they seem to be sold because of a strong offer from the acquiring institution, the opportunity to move on to other business ventures, and to ease personal stress and responsibility. Banks that are trying to grow quickly like to take on banks around 1/5 the size they are currently. With the largest merger since 2012 being 26%. Three banks seeking growth, First Merchants, Old National, and Horizon, account for about 70% of the total assets that have been purchased. Within my look back period, Horizon has made six purchases totaling 1641MM of total acquisitions. These acquisitions have pushed Horizon to more than double in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Granpa Chook In Bryce Courtenay s The Power Of One In Bryce Courtenay s The Power of One, The killing of Granpa Chook was a traumatic moment for Peekay. His only friend at school symbolized companionship and comfort, and Peekay cared deeply for him. It was amongst the low points of his horrifying boarding school experience, and the events surrounding the chicken s death displayed the cruelty of the world to Peekay. Most importantly, however, it revealed the extreme loyalty and bravery of the future welterweight champion. Granpa Chook may have been a mere chicken to the uninitiated, but was important to Peekay. Peekay s appreciation and high regard for his friend are demonstrated by the epithet given. It surely was gutting for Peekay to see his best friend killed right next to him, and for the first time, he realized the ultimate level of cruelty: murder of a defenseless individual. Moreover, his willingness to sacrifice himself for others appears first here but is not a one time occurrence. It was a recurring reminder of his bravery and loyalty. • 8. Essay about Freedom Riders Freedom Riders Freedom Riders were a group of people, both black and white, who were civil rights activists from the North who meant to demonstrate that segregated travel on interstate buses, even though banned by an I.C.C. Ruling, were still being enforced throughout much of the South (The South 16). The Riders attempted to prove this by having a dozen or so white and black Freedom Riders board buses in the North and travel through Southern cities. This was all a coldly calculated attempt to speed up integration by goading the South, forcing the Southern extremists to explode their tempers ( Freedom Riders 20). Several incidents of beatings were reported, sometimes with simple weapons, other times with weapons of mass destruction conducted by local citizens as the freedom riders passed through their city. Very often, the cops were conspicuously absent when the blood began to flow (The South 16). One particularly violent incident on May 14, 1961 occurred when someone threw a bomb into a window of an interstate bus. When the twelve passengers on the bus exited because of the smoke and flames, the waiting mob pulverize beat some of passengers up. The police arrested four men in conjunction with the bombing, yet the four men were only charged with willful damage to vehicles in interstate commerce (State is Warned 1). The fact that this incident was taken so lightly is appalling. Clearly these men should have been punished or convicted more severely. The hurt freedom riders were taken to the local hospital, and none were seriously injured. We examined two articles about the bus bombing incident, one from Time and one from the New York Times. The Time article gave a much more general overview of the incident, and lacked some details, such as who was arrested and why, and the response of the government. The New York Times article discussed this information in great detail. It includes the names of the perpetrators and the reason for their arrest. It also discusses the response of Attorney General Robert Kennedy, who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Middle-Range Theory Theory Scope Categorizing the Theory Scope, the first step of theory analysis, involves describing the abstractness of their theory concepts and propositions. While the scope of the grand theory is nonspecific, the scope of the middle range theory is more specific and limited. A middle range theory, additionally, can be classified in terms of descriptive, explanatory, or predictive. Leventhal et al. did not identify the type of their theory. However, the words and sentences that they mentioned in the CSM can categorize as a middle range theory. The CSM was proposed to provide the framework for depicting the self regulation when individuals have to encounter stress caused by an illness and understanding the processes involved in problem coping. Leventhal et al. described that the CSM consists of three core concepts: representation of illness, coping, and coping appraisal. The relationship between the concepts was presented in the parallel processing system that interact as the individual adapts to each specific situation. These processes lead individuals to seek health care for acute illnesses and manage their illness for chronic conditions. Additionally, the CSM was used as a theoretical framework in research and applied in practice, particularly psychological, behavioral, and nursing fields. The results of study can make possible intervention which would help patients develop valid coping processes. Consequently, The CSM can be classified as a middle range predictive theory. ... The film directed by Akira Kurosawa, has a storyline of a lost samurai, responding to a villages appeal for defence against vicious bandits. The main character Kambei gathers another six samurai to help. They teach the peasants of the village to defend themselves, as the film climaxes into an epic fight of samurai, peasants and 40 bandits. These are all scenes that can persuade the audience in thinking that the samurai are helpful and powerful. In scenes you see the peasants give food to the samurai and the conflict between the samurais and peasants is very little. The peasants seek the samurais help, while on the other hand appreciate them but in the end the story takes a turn. The feature film is also focused around the tokugawa era. Also known as the edo era, Japanese society was under the control of the Tokugawa shogunate and the country s 250 and more regional leaders. The time was recognized by the economic expansion and strict social hierarchy. The setting is based around a village controlled by an old wise man and framers, this really betrays the tokugawa era as the characterisation of the huts and rice fields portray the time around the 1600s to 1800s. The bandits riding horses at the introduction influence the audience that the film is set around the tokugawa era. But in this world of fairytale movies and the American Dream, what about those who didn t fit into the picture of perfection and prosperity? The second portion of Howl is commonly considered by critics to be the most complicated for the average mind to comprehend. In this section, nearly every thing is described as a Moloch. Moloch, in mythology was a God to whom children were sacrificed. Now, the term is commonly used to describe anything responsible for destroying innocence. In Part II, Ginsberg describes nearly everything about American culture to be a Moloch. Even society s viewpoints are Molochs. In a way, Ginsberg is calling America itself a Moloch, and then continuing to describe parts of the whole. Moloch whose mind is pure machinery! Moloch whose blood is running money! Moloch whose fingers are ten armies! Moloch whose breast is a cannibal dynamo! Moloch whose ear is a smoking tomb! (Ginsberg 21) America is evil to Ginsberg because of the feelings of hatred and repulsion the society builds in him. The third section of Howl is a striking contrast to the other two parts. ... • 14. The Probability Of Picking A Starfish Instruct Many students get confused when learning about fractions. At our grade level we teach about parts of a whole, equal shares, and partitioning. 1. Starfish, shark, whale and dolphin probability: The probability of picking a starfish will equal the number of starfish (3) divided by the total number (10). Therefore, the probability of the student picking a starfish is 3/10. The probability of picking a shark will be 3 sharks out of 10. This equals 3/10 The probability of whales will be 3/10 and the probability of dolphins will be 1/10. 2. How are the probabilities affected if each student replaces his or her sea animal after picking it? When a student replaces their sea animal, nothing will change. On the first pull, the probability of getting a starfish is 3/10, because there are 10 sea animals and 3 of them are starfish. If that starfish is replaced (put back in the fishpond), the probability for the second pull is still 3/10, and that means the events are independent. The result of one trial does not affect the result of another. Probabilities remain the same. 3. Select one of the sea animals. Give an example of how the probabilities are changed if that sea animal is replaced or not replaced after a student picks it out of the fishpond. Suppose a student picks out a sea animal at random from the fish pond, then replaces it and a second animal is chosen. If replaced, the probability of choosing a starfish and then a dolphin is; P(Starfish)= 3/10 P(dolphin)= ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Along with the topic of what can be done with this technology, there is also the topic of what should be done with the technology from an ethical standpoint. Self driving cars while not perfected are worth their innumerous benefits, despite the current limitations and drawbacks. Every year there are numerous incidents where the driver is responsible for a crash or even death. A self driving car could be the very solution necessary to solving the abundance of accidents that occur daily across the nation. There are different levels of automation ranging on the amount of the drivers control of the vehicles. This technology is already being implemented in creative and helpful ways, and has been successfully tested. Self driving cars are something that s new, it s something that has only just been implemented in the past few years, and will be continually implemented and improved upon. Currently autonomous cars are limited to actions such as parallel parking, brake assist, and lane detection. Lastly, cytokinesis which is the splitting of the daughter cells furrow will be formed and the cell will pinched into two. Meiosis According to the Biology Online Organization (2006), Meiosis contained two type of phases meiosis I and meiosis II. In the prophase I, homologous chromosomes in the nucleus begin to pair up with one another and then split into chromatids where crossing over can occur. For metaphase I, the chromosomes will align at the equator of the cell. The bivalents are aligned randomly increasing the genetic variation via independent assortment. In the anaphase 1, the homologous chromosomes move to opposing poles from the equator. A new nuclei will be formed around each pole alongside each new chromosomes compliment in the telophase I. For prophase II, the second meiotic division will be initiated and the nuclear membrane will disappear. In the metaphase II, the pair of chromatids will be lined up at the equator. For the anaphase II, via the spindle fibers, each of these chromatids will be moved away from the equator to the poles. Lastly, in the telophase II the four new haploid gametes are created which will thus fuse with the gametes of the opposite sex to form a zygote. 4. The existence of a Supreme Being is being summoned in situations where people are in need of such assistance. Truly a remarkable film, The Seventh Seal effectively portrays this question in sight of existentialism. God, neither the devil, was not present. There was even a scene where Block asked the woman accused of having contact with the devil to summon the devil so that Block will be able to ask about the about the existence of God. Block was not able to see anything. As it turns out, the woman was falsely accused by the priest. Block came to a point where he asked the existence of God when he confesses to Death, disguised as a priest but Death himself did not give answers to this. Even at the end of the film, Death did not explain this to Block. Quoting Block, My life has been a futile pursuit, a wandering, a great deal of talk without meaning. I feel no bitterness or self reproach because the lives of most people are very much like this. In what pursuit did he wasted his time into? Perhaps he was pertaining to his search for the existence of God. Aside from Block, a more existential character than him is introduced his squire, Jöns. In Jöns conversation with the painter in the church, he mentioned that, This is squire Jöns. He grins at Death, mocks the Lord, laughs at himself and leers at the girls. The term genocide was defined by the United Nations in 1948 meaning following acts such as killing, causing serious physical/mental harm, or deliberately inflicting conditions of life calculated to bring physical destruction, with intent to destroy a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group. Genocides do not just happen out of nowhere, often it is due to long standing conflicts with religious or cultural groups and a desire to have power and control from either sides of conflict. Although the Holocaust is the most well known genocide, people often forget that genocides still happen and that some have ended only recently. One genocide that occurred after World War II was in the 1970 s. The Cambodian genocide lasted from 1975 till 1979 and was caused by a number of events. In 1970 Cambodia s ruler, Prince Sihanouk, was deposed in a military coup. A new right wing government was established and a lieutenant general, Lon Nol, was made president of the Khmer Republic. • 21. In Mary Wollstonecraft s Of Pernicious Effects Which Arise... Mary Wollstonecraft, an American writer and advocate for women s rights from the late 1700s, was born into a world much different from modern Western society. As Wollstonecraft explains in her passage, Of Pernicious Effects Which Arise from the Unnatural Distinctions Established in Society, eighteenth century America granted women with hardly the same amount of privilege, opportunity, and education as it granted men. Wollstonecraft also explains how wealth often corrupts both women and men. Since Wollstonecraft s time, women s struggles have yielded victories that have led to advancements toward a more equal society, although inequality and corruption among the wealthy still remains to this day. Women in Wollstonecraft s time were only valued for their attractiveness, were only useful for their role as a mother, and were not given the right to an education nor the right to jobs. Wollstonecraft observes that when a women is admired for her beauty, she suffers herself to be...intoxicated by the admiration she receives as to neglect...the indispensable duty of a mother, she sins against herself by neglecting to cultivate an affection that would equally tend to make her useful and happy (Wollstonecraft 6). In other words, women getting so wrapped up in presenting themselves as beautiful in order to meet society s standards then completely neglect their natural role as a mother that would make them useful by society s standards by fulfilling the only role they really could at the time: a mother. Instead of being praised for being a virtuous mother, women were valued solely for their sexual attractiveness. Once their beauty fades and they have already birthed and raised their children, as Wollstonecraft states, let them not expect to be valued (32). During Wollstonecraft s time, a typical woman was dependent on her husband s bounty for her subsistence during his life or support after his death (19). A woman did not have any other job than to be impregnated and raise her husband s offspring, meaning she had to be financially dependent on her husband. Women could not study the art of healing nor be physicians [or] nurses jobs Wollstonecraft argued women might certainly study given the opportunity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This poem defines the nation for its longstanding relationship with refugees, yet, the issue has created controversy throughout the years, specifically during the recent presidential election. Many believe immigrants and refugees have no right to live in the United States, while others yield completely different, polarized opinions. Personally, I believe that the United States should not enforce extreme restrictions on immigrants who desire freedom in the form of fleeing to this country. Those who oppose this claim believe immigrants will debilitate the economy, enter the country illegally, and potentially harm Americans. However, these individuals do not take into account how America was built in the first place, how to effectively strengthen the nation s borders, and the factual data that proves the majority of immigrants do not threaten the safety of Americans.
