Lofty Diction In The Life Of St Degory
Saint Gregory of Nyssa opens his narrative The Life of St. Macrina, with a justification as to why
he is documenting accounts of St. Macrina s life. St. Gregory, St. Macrina s brother, sets out to
create a narrative that is both artless and simple , but rather, we receive a rich, detailed
expression of admiration and praise (77). According to St. Gregory, Macrina was the spiritual
leader in their family, using her knowledge of Scripture and philosophy to motivate her family
and others to cast off the illusion of a material life. With a wealth of knowledge and the ability to
persuade others, Macrina rose to the position of Superior. Saint Gregory, in his work The Life of
St. Macrina, utilizes lofty diction, tone, and a clear characterization of Macrina, which enables
us to see how through Christianity, women of the 3rd century had the freedom to establish an
identity outside of the secular, patriarchal world, and what levels of respect that identity yielded.
St. Gregory s use of lofty diction is apparent when he describes their mother s character. By using
lofty diction such as extremely virtuous, exceptionally pure, and spotless, it is obvious St.
Gregory holds his mother in high esteem, even though she was not a handmaid for the church
like Macrina (77). Moreover, if these are the words he chooses when describing his mother, we can
see why his word choice is lofty for Macrina, who held the respected position of Superior later in
her life. Nonetheless, due to

1. Introduction to the assignment and summary of the selected business. This assignment is about
the factors that influences the business environment in different ways. This is about environmental
analysis which is dynamic process that comprises scanning, monitoring, disseminating and
forecasting. There are different factors which influences the business in 21st century. Somehow
these factors have impact on the business in favour of the business and sometimes have an adverse
impact in the business.
I am taking TESCO plc as a business. I will look the factors which influences the TESCO plc in

Dec 2012). So it is feasible for TESCO to operate their business in Singapore.
Social analysis:
One other factor is social factor. It is about the people living there. What is the thinking of the
people? In Singapore there is diversification of people and diversified culture and religion which
makes it probably open minded country to new influences. So it will be easy for TESCO to invest
in this country for the expansion and growth of their business with proper planning and marketing.
If we consider the other factors about the living standards, Singapore has the population of
approximately 5 million. Salaries are high to meet the daily basis expenses. On the other hand
people are educated more than 80% adults are highly professional degree holders. So TESCO has
this advantage in hiring the people. The most the educated people in the company the more
influence on the growth of the company.
Technological analysis:
According to an analysis, Singapore is the most successful in the race of innovation and
advancement (Qureshi S. 2010). This is the advantage to TESCO to exploit self checking out and
electronic shelf labelling in its merchandising in Singapore. Singapore has more than 4 million
users of internet. So it will be easy for TESCO to exploits information on internet so people can be
aware of vacancies available and all the information about TESCO.

What Is The Theme Of The Snow Child By Angela Carter
3.Angela Carter s The Snow Child
In The Snow Child , Angela Carter criticizes gender roles as well as the result of when we can
finally fulfill a desire and this is conveyed in a very interesting way. Angela Carter does not simply
rewrite the story of Snow White but rather represents the objectification of the female gender, even
in a premature age. This story belongs to the post modern literary era, which is known for
deconstructing things, going deep to the core, criticizing and pointing things out. All those things
can be found in this story, not only as a post modern feature but also as a feminist feature. The tales
in [The Bloody Chamber] still foreground the violence and abuse but the narrative itself provides an

towards the girl. After the girl dies, she melts like the white snow off her skin and the Count
presents the rose the girl picked up to his wife and she accepts it (92). Again, there is a dynamic
of power between the characters, the rose has been picked for the countess all along, but has been
presented only after the death of the girl. Only after the Count had satisfied his lust, lost his child
of desire, he gives the rose to his

Identity In Odd Places
Identity in odd places Identity is the idiosyncrasies, backgrounds, and character traits that separate
people from one another. Self discipline and mental toughness are just two of the many
characteristics I ve had to develop throughout my life success in school, sports, and life in general
rely greatly on these traits. I always hated drivingto my Grandmas but this one trip tested my
abilities greatly. From preparing for, committing, and carrying out the road trip, I was tested
every step of the journey. Getting prepared for the road trip was almost as painful as the car ride
itself. I considered preparing the car for a trip equivalent to preparing for a ride in an electric chair.
Except instead of preparing for a quick execution, I was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would put in headphones and listen to music or work on homework while I still had the energy.
I would always drink at least one entire Gatorade bottle within ten minutes of the trip but this
time I was extra thirsty and had two regular sized Gatorades and a water, and like clockwork my
mom looked at me disgusted like I just ate a booger and said, Why did you do that? You are
going to have to pee 5 miles down the road! I m not stopping for at least fifty so you ll just have
to pee yourself . After that I didn t pay attention to anything outside the car because for the first
fifty to one hundred miles I saw repetitions of old memories. The boring scenery and lack of
sleep took its toll on me after about an hour where each minute that passed by was like a punch
from Mike Tyson making my sight fade closer to darkness with each swing. I have never lasted
an entire car trip without falling asleep in the first leg of the trip in my life. Even if I had got
plenty of sleep the night before, the first leg would inevitably knock me out. One thing that I
liked, even though it is also part of the reason I fell asleep, is that during the first hour of driving
I got to see the interesting change in scenery from my suburban town with huge houses and
crystal blue lakes that sparkle as I go by. Then it slowly faded into one office building and then
another and another until a city erupted from the ground around me and I had seen the city
lights and people of all different races, cultures, and backgrounds go by. As quickly as it started,
it faded back away into the distance behind me and the beautiful lush wooded areas that are so
common in the north unfolded around me until all I could see were giant trees around me and a
road that doesn t seem to end ahead of me. I had been really interested into the sights and I had
loved drawing when I was younger. I had a nice notebook just for drawing and I really wanted

American Dream Success Research Paper
As a society the United States of America incorporated a set of ideas in reference to the success of
citizens. This idea is known or referred to as the American Dream. The idea of the American dream
promotes the belief that every United States citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve
success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative. Success and prosperity fall
anywhere on the spectrum of career, family, assets, and ultimately happiness. As a result of this idea
that has been incorporated by the country, the American dream creates the foundation of
controversy among the citizens whether this idea is beneficial and accurate. The concept of the

As this generation is able to relate to celebrities (the upper class elites) based on many different
factors, develop the idea that if this upper class elite can make it so can the regular individual
because that same celebrity was in fact once a regular civilian too. As long as the regular
civilian is willing and able to put in the hard work, determination, and initiative they too can
achieve the American dream. Generally speaking, with the ability to relate is one of the major
factors in what thrives the concept of the American dream as it demonstrates anyone is able to
obtain such success. Location, race, and the upbringing of the upper class elites creates this
belief because before these individuals were able to obtain such success many of them shared
that same neighborhood, family dynamics, classrooms, and the environment as a whole with
the regular citizen as they were consider such too before the success encountered. Following this

Jazz History
02 February 2017
Sidney Bechet Similar to Louis Armstrong a man named Sidney Bechet was a jazz musician
who was among the best of New Orleans Jazz. Bechet was born into a middle class Creole family
that accepted music as a huge part of their lives. Omar Bechet was Sidney s father; he was a flute
player who played music as a pass time. Sidney had four brothers who also played instruments,
Leonard was one of his brothers, Leonard played the trombone and also the clarinet. Sidney took
on an interest in the clarinet and Leonard passed on his clarinet to Sidney (The Bechet Society.
1997). When Sidney Bechet first began playing clarinet, he would perform quadrilles, waltzes, and
overall polite music meant for the middle class. Bechet many times would ditch class when he was
a child to become proficient at his instrument and even started to play in local jazz groups. As
Bechet grew older, he began playing more syncopated pieces in brothels and dance halls. Bechet
performed and impressed Bunk Johnson, a legend, who played cornet. Bechet then joined the Eagle

Juxtaposition In Ender s Game
In Ender s Game it is never entirely clear who is a friend and who is an enemy. Graff, Anderson,
and Rackham, who are undoubtedly Ender s friends, appear to him as enemies and are forced to
do so. Peter attempts to befriend Valentine merely to get what he wants, but she never forgets that
he is not a real friend. Petra Arkanian and Dink Meeker are always Ender s friends, but at times he
is uncertain of where they stand. But by far the most striking juxtaposition occurs with the buggers.
The only enemy that Ender truly fears, the buggers in the end prove to be friendly. The earth s
greatest enemy, the alien race it was at war with, turns out not to have been intentionally hostile.
The author constantly proves that friends and enemies are not

The Namesake Theme
The foreign domain is a factor that carries the national identity of the people from different places.
The traditions and identities of each character are intertwined in the notion of foreign culture and
ethnic minority culture. The association of the alien characters in the new community demonstrates
a new identity construction. This type of concept of a new life in a new place brings out a foreign
experience that is hard to adapt. In the story Namesake, Ashima migrates from India to America,
but to her everything is weird, and she feels like she cannot fit.
The experiences that the Ganguli family finds in America are entirely foreign especially since they
are living in an entirely new environment. They are an Indian family trying to style in the American

Through Ashima, the reader can relate to the emotions and feel about culture, alienation, and
homesickness of the immigrants (Lahiri, 22). Ashima is traditional and misses her life in
Calcutta and thus finds it difficult to settle down in America. Ashima feels like a foreigner
because she cannot relate to the new culture and does not seem to make friends in school. Her
life as an immigrant gives Ashima a new point of view that her children do not know about
because they were born and bred in America. Ashima does not like that Gogol s choices in
women because they do not follow the Bengali traditions. When her husband dies, she is
confronted with another idea of moving from a place she calls home and to her that is foreign.
(Lahiri, 22) To Ashima, being in a new location that has different traditions is foreign. Moving
back to India, Calcutta, her home is now foreign to her as it is different from her life in America. It
seems like Ashima has made new friends in America but has not completely transformed either, but

How Did Jimi Hendrix Influence Society
Jimi Hendrix is considered a key influence in music of the 20th century. The American rock
songwriter, singer, and guitarist was born and brought up in Seattle where he began to practice
and eventually hone his talents at playing the guitar (Erlewine). While being a self trained
guitarist, Hendrix is also acknowledged today as an intellectual with marvelous musical abilities.
He is renowned for his speed, ambition, and precision while playing, ability to apply intricate
melodic elements as well as his ability to play, sing, and dance at the same time. As a guitarist and
rock n roll singer, Jimi Hendrixwon numerous awards for his major contributions and applications

Hendrix s ability to perform guitar solos categorized by perplexing whammy bar use gave The
Star Spangled Banner a sense of distortion of both time and direction. The most controversial
nature of his style is characterized by the shrill and lurid sounds he manufactured from his guitar
as they were complemented by the sounds of gunfire, screams, and bombs (Owen). However,
his intentions were morally just and noble by simply playing a patriotic song for the soldiers
risking their lives for the American people in Vietnam. He incorporates his artistic side as a
musician by including sounds of war, barrage of gunfire, and bombs that American soldier face
with the use of the whammy bar. From the beginning, Hendrix s basics of playing were
completely different from everyone else; he did not play with the C Major Chord like many
guitarists would, instead he did it outside the box (Jones). Hendix also used the wah wah pedal
regularly, a feature that made him distinctive from all other musicians and guitar players (Leonard).
This unique style that Hendrix introduced skyrocketed in popularity and revolutionized the rock

The Leadership Of A Successful Team
Administration sets the tone and time for collaboration. It is imperative for school to have
educators and staff to work in collaborative teams. The common goal is student achievement.
Through respect and partnership the fulfillment can be endless. This year I was invited to be the
Positive Behavioral Support Internal Coach for my K 8 school. I accepted and quickly learned
that collaboration and organization are key components to a successful team. At first, the focus
should be members of the team or group. Asking for volunteer is a great way to get started. People
are more apt to commit and put the effort into the cause when they want to be there; however,
administration may appoint or suggest people because of their insight to... Show more content on

I am in favor of a democratic way for decisions making; therefore I would expect cooperation in
any resolution. During the course of one of my PBS meetings, a goal was determining the
requirements for students to attend a PBS celebration. In a prior meeting each of the members
had a 1 2 minutes to express their concerns about PBS being just for behavior, failing grades may
not be a behavior in elementary grades, but may be in middle school. The task for each member
was to discuss it with their grade levels and come back ready to vote. At the next meeting we
voted on three choices, only office discipline referrals, office discipline referrals and failing
grades of only middle school students, office discipline referrals and failing grades for the K 8th
grade. The vote came to 7 to 1 that students could not have office discipline referral and could not
fail (59.4% or below) a core class. During a staff meeting for PBS implementation and data review,
other staff members didn t not agree with the requirements, but through the PBS team we had
democratic evidence that it was a collaborative effort of the team. Other teams, committees and task
forces work should work in the same manner. There are grade level teams that should be discussing
standards that can be crossed within curriculum. Department teams should be vertically planning to
account for deficiencies within the standard progression. For example, in a PLC we discussed

Pedagogy Of The Oppressed
Reader Response to Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paulo Freire In Pedagogy of the Oppressed ,
Paulo Freire describes what he calls the banking concept of education. He then argues as to why we
should not use the banking concept of education as teachers. The banking concept is when a teacher
believes they are a genius on his or her content subject and treats the children s minds as banks. The
teacher just deposits his or her knowledge into the children s minds without posing any real
challenges or chance for student growth. Freire says, Narration...leads the students to memorize
mechanically the narrated account...it turns them into containers ...to be filled by the teachers

The Shock Is A Life Threatening Condition Of Circulatory...
Shock is a life threatening condition of circulatory failure that most commonly presents with
hypotension. The effects of shock are initially reversible but can rapidly become irreversible,
resulting in multi organ failure (MOF) and death. when a patient present with undifferentiated
hypotension, it is important that the clinician rapidly identify the aetiology so that appropriate
therapy can be administered to prevent MOF and death (Vincent, 2013).
Assessment of hemodynamic status in a shock state remains a challenging issue in Emergency
Medicine. Early recognition and appropriate treatment of shock have been shown to decrease
mortality (Moore and Copel, 2011; Volpicelli, 2011). In case of medical emergencies there may not
be enough time to perform detailed diagnostic procedures and eliminating any imminently life
threatening conditions from the possibilities is always challenging in a busy ED.
Shock is defined as circulatory insufficiency that leads to under perfusion of organs in the body,
which can result in multi organ failure. Undifferentiated shock refers to the situation where shock is
recognized, but the cause is unclear. In general shock can be classified into 4 subtypes (Tintinalli,
2010):
Hypovolemic shock this happens as a result of severe blood or fluid loss as can be seen in
haemorrhage, rupture of aortic aneurysm, severe diarrhoea, vomiting.
Distributive shock this type of shock happens when the core intravascular volume is insufficient to

My philosophy on teaching is simple. Quality over quantity. Rather than inundating students with
copious amounts of meaningless busy work, I would rather focus on ensuring that each and every
student comprehends and fully understands whatever topic I may be presenting that day. I have
had my fair share of experience with apathetic teachers at the high school and university level so I
am well aware of the toxic and stale environment that they propagate within their classrooms.
Education is one of the most precious gifts we are given in our lives and that is the atmosphere I
wish to promote within my own classroom. While some students may agree with this concept, I am
aware that there are just as many that will not. However, through putting in time and hard work I

Essay On Coffee Culture
In the previous decade, coffee culture was not that popular in Hong Kong. When you walked along
the street, instead of seeing Coffee shops, you were definitely seen many traditional Chinese

traditional tea culture is challenged by the coffeeculture as a great number of coffee shops has
emerged gradually in these few years. In the followings, several reasons that blow the coffee culture
up will be introduced.
Westernization of our culture
For the change of the culture, teenagers are one of the main characters to facilitate the change.
In most of the teenagers mind, Coffee, this drink is a symbol of western lifestyles and drinking
coffee can be symbolized as stylish, cosmopolitan and sophistication. Therefore, teenagers with
more opened minds are more willing to accept western lifestyles when comparing with aged
adults. But for the group of aged adults, they are more willing to go to the traditional Chinese tea

Reflection Of My Paintings
My paintings are a reflection of my personal experiences and my imagination. My aim to paint is
not just to master the technique but to feel and connect with the subject.
By balancing the art of memory and personal experience, I create works that narrate a story. I
believe my works are just like novels. Each painting is a different chapter from my life. These
visual compositions may not be the exact representation of the particular event but they do
symbolize the incident. I create with daily, recognizable elements, a situation in which the viewer
is also a part of the work and he is confronted with the conditioning of his own perception and has
to reconsider his biased position.

Holden Caulfield And Its Effects On Society
After a heated argument, rough day, or traumatizing event, many of us say we would rather be
left alone. When something negative happens to any of us we tend to isolate ourselves, leaving
ourselves to our thoughts for a while before blending back into society. This isolation is good for
a while, it allows us to clear our heads and think things through before going back into a normal
routine. Prolonged isolation however, has been proven to be potentially dangerous. Holden
Caulfield isolates himself from the phoniness of the world, thinking highly of himself and
somehow believes he is different from everyone else he s ever met. Holden s way of putting
himself on a pedestal harms his social prowess, and isolates him to the point of loneliness. He
longs for social contact and in many situations makes a strong effort in order to get to know
somebody. After 5 minutes of conversation however, Holden proves to us his social impairment.
Holden Caulfield is an example of a person who does not fit into normal social interactions, yet
some of his personality exists in all of us.

Isis s Impact On The United States Of America
Ben Rodkey Glaser English 10 3 4 15 ISIS ISIS has been a rapidly increasing threat to not just
the United States of America, but the entire world. ISIS has done countless brutal, sick, heart
wrenching things that have caused a national and international uproar in the citizens of
numerous countries. ISIS considers them the Islamic State, and they seem to have many
motives. They basically want a large portion of the Middle east under ISIS control and for the
rest of the world to accept their disgusting traditions as they claim they are doing, This threat has
done some very unspeakable things; the problem needs to be solved. Considering the view the
United State holds right now, there are a few actions that can be taken to reduce this threat that
ISIS presents. ISIS has rapidly become an enormous problem for most of, if not all of the world.
There are some very simple and some very complicated ways to solves this problem. The most
efficient way is to simple go to war with ISIS and physically, mentally and emotionally destroy
everything and everyone that is supporting this cause, another way is to give them what they desire
to have, finally the last option is just completely ignore the foreign issue until it presents itself on

Marvell and John Donne expressed their feelings through poetry. Both John Donne, born in 1572
and Andrew Marvell, born in 1621 in England, are known for their ideas of metaphysical poetry.
Metaphysical poetry is a persuasive poem that uses a conceit. It focuses on imagery, paradoxes,
arguments, philosophy and religion. Andrew Marvell s To His Coy Mistress and John Donne s A
Valediction: Forbidding Mourning, focus on the theme of love, which was trending at that time.
Although both poems justify the importance and essence of love, the tone differs in each poem
making them distant from each other. The figurative language also makes the two poems different.
However, they both focus on the idea of Carpe Diem, enjoying the moment and not worrying about
the future. Through comparing these poems, the differences and similarities result in the true
understanding and effectiveness of the poems. In To His Coy Mistress, Andrew Marvell does not
perceive true, fervent love, but rather that time and beauty will not last. The tone of this poem is
sad, but the author seems to make it happier. There is an example shown in the first stanza;
Had we but world enough and time...we would sit down, and think which way to walk, and pass
our long love s day. (1 4) Marvell appears to be straying from the idea of Carpe Diem; stating that if

Medical Records And Electronic Records
This case study has presented multiple issues concerning converting paper medical record to
electronic medical records. The first concerns are the inefficiencies of the paper medical records
and the steps needed to convert the current records to digital records. A second concern was that
the medical staff would have to change their work habits to adjust to using the electronic
medical records and the training that would be needed to implement the electronic record
software. Another concern would be the various formats of software programs and the ability to
complement each other. The final concern was the security of the electronic records, misuse of
the information or problems accessing the information due to unforeseen circumstances. As the
case stated paper records are cumbersome, bulky and difficult to access. As you read through the
case it does make one think about how your own medical records are maintained within the
doctor s office. As with my own medical records there was a time that the doctor was looking
back through the actual sheets of paper in my file looking for information how he treated a
certain medical issue that I had experience years prior, because the same issue reappeared again.
It took an extensive amount of my appointment time to search through only a few years of my
medical records to find the notes on that exact appointment. How easy would it have been to be
able to open the laptop, pull up my medical records and enter a few words in a

Hierarchy In Stagecoach
There is a hierarchy amongst the characters in Stagecoach. Each have a form of speaking that
stylistically changes as a response to the relationships they have with one another. One striking
scene that actually outlines the hierarchy amongst the characters is at the Dry Fork Station
where the travelers are sitting down at a dining table. At first, Ms. Mallory is sitting at one end
of the table when Gatewood sits two chairs down from her right and Ringo offers a chair to
Dallas right next to Ms. Mallory s left. Once after Dallas sits down, however, Ms. Mallory,
Hatfield, and Gatewood all move down towards the other end of the table. Thus, towards the end
of the sequence the camera is located at opposite end of Ms. Mallory, making her appear

Word Choice And Imagery In The Minefield By Daniel Thiel
The Minefield, a poem by Daniel Thiel, portrays itself in an obscure yet abrupt manner in which a
hungry, fourteen year old boy, only looking for a head of lettuce, is blown up by a minefield. The
word choice and imagery in the poem consequently conveys the vision of the minefield explosion
(by the father) being unleashed through the acts of fury and violencetowards his children. Word
choice conveys this vision through explicit yet traumatic experiences with the past explosionby
referencing how, only fourteen, innocent, hungry, and under good intention, was the friend blown
up. For example, on the first two lines of stanza three, Thiel depicts the scattered boyas someone
who, ...carried them underneath his good intentions , /turned his head, looked back once, / and
his body was scattered across the field (Stanza 1, line 8 9). The word choice within these quotes
makes the young boy appear blameless given his traumatic fate. On the second stanza, the two
lines may indicate that the father is recalling a memory at a dinner table towards his children.
Furthermore, the word choice that compares the memory to anger displacement can be seen on
the third stanza on lines 14 17 in which the father gave the ...volume of his anger to his children,
which resulted in the bruises, we covered up with sleeves./ In the way, he threw anything against
the wall... , such as a radio. Following the line, Thiel then compares how his father threw a melon,
having it open, like a head, which is a direct reference to the father s past experience in regards to
the explosion. Secondly, the word
Simic 2 choice following the previous line references how the kids of the distressed father are
now traumatized from the father s outbursts of violence and destruction, that anything might
explode at any time. Imagery for The Minefield, however, portrays a similar approach in relation
to word choice. Within the first stanza, when the ... friend ran a few lengths ahead, the imagery
in that can relate to how close yet distant the fourteen year old boy was in comparison to the
others, ending in one tragedy. On line 7, imagery can be clearly seen as the boy was compared to

What Is An Example Of Cognitive Dissonance Theory
Cognitive Dissonance Theory, or CDT for short, is an objective communication theory that was
developed by Leon Festinger. Cognitive Dissonance is defined as The distressing mental state
caused by inconsistency between a person s two beliefs or a belief and an action. (Griffin,
Ledbetter, et al). An example of cognitive dissonance would be a health conscious smoker, this
person knows that smokingis bad for them, but they still smoke because they enjoy it. Their desire
to be healthy conflicts with their smoking, this conflict places them in a distressing mental state, a
state of cognitive dissonance. Festinger provides three hypotheses for CDT: 1.) Selective exposure
prevents dissonance. 2.) Post decision dissonance creates need for reassurance. and 3.) Minimal
justification for action induces attitude change.

John Schoenherr s Owl Moon
Owl Moon written by Jane Yolen and illustrated by John Schoenherr, takes the reader for a winter

all hope. When you go owling you don t need words or warm or anything but hope .
The illustrations for Owl Moon are done by John Schoenherr. The illustrator chose pen with

Older students can dissect an owl pellet. We can take the lesson further and explore what animals
stay in the winter and how they survive. Since this is a story of what a boy did with his father,
perhaps the students can discuss or write about an activity they have done with a parent,
grandparent, or friend. I remember writing a short story when I was seven, about snowmobiling
with my grandfather. I drew a picture with the story; I think my mother laminated it.
I chose Owl Moon because it reminded so much of where I live. Although I have never been on
an owling , I have had many opportunities to hear them. The words of the author and the illustrator
transported me to our meadow path. Our feet crunched over the crisp snow , reminds me when my
mother, sisters and I went to the meadow to make plaster of paris molds of deer prints.

How To Legalize Medical Marijuana
Imagine you have just been diagnosed with cancer. The chemotherapy drugs have left you feeling
extremely nauseous; the anti nausea drugs aren t working. Marijuana would help but, if you took
it you would be a criminal act. The government needs to stop being swayed by negative
information and allow marijuana to be legalised for medical use.
Marijuana has many positive effects it makes the side effects from chemotherapy subside. Some
may argue that there are many drugs that can help with these symptoms. However, since the
legalization of medicinal marijuana in California, many patients have said that marijuana is the
only thing that helps achieve symptom relief. Some patients have said that it improves the use of

And with medical marijuana you need more; it is an expensive treatment. If it was legalised it
would become cheaper because supply would increase and it becomes less valuable.

legalised in America it has not increased recreational use of the drug by a large number. Medical
marijuana is not all of the plant itself. The main beneficial part of the plant is all the doctors need
for the treatment, which is CBD. The CBD is extracted from the plant and is used. Which is
where it becomes useless to drug deals trying to steal some to sell, as the additive part THC is
removed and becomes less harmless to the brain.
So the Pros overweight the negatives so it should be legal. I think if people are saying it helps

Cultural Litivism Vs. Ethical Relativism
The topic of my paper is Cultural Relativism vs. Ethical Relativism.
The purpose of this paper is to justify the intervening in another country because of cultural
practices we believe are unethical. Relativism is actually the concept, which tells that when it
comes to a viewpoint there is no complete or impartial truth. Rather, the truth contains subjectivity,
which is related to specific perceiving behavior. Cultural relativism and ethical relativism both are
the philosophies that are connected to relativism in some way or other. In order to make the
difference between cultural relativism and ethical relativism, it is important to understand the word
ethics that defines the whole morality study. Ethics is basically the branch of philosophy that tries
to interpret those things and actions, which seem morally right and are universally acceptable.
Ethics is basically the criteria, which we set about what is right for other people and also for the
society as well. The principles of ethics are usually derived from cultural, philosophical and
religious values. Decisions about what is ethically right or wrong have altered over time to time.
Ethics also permits the examination of moral standards within a society, permitting questions to
whether they are reasonable or unreasonable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Reflective Essay About Math
There is a short list of things that keep me up at night. Beyond being anxious or too excited for
something that s happening tomorrow, math is the most common offender. Ironic because math is
infamous for making students sleep. When I get my head wrapped around a problem, I cannot
seem to sleep until I have come to some satisfactory conclusion or found a way to get my mind off
of it. Although, holding my sleep hostage really is a great way to make me solve the problem! I don t
just think about it when I sleep, it also invades my thoughts when I m trying to focus on an
audiobook in the car or as I am walking and taking in the scenery of early morning Harrisburg on
my way to school. I love thinking about math and the reward of finding a problem s solution is ever
so satisfying. I know that whatever I focus on in my future has to involve these kinds of problems,
the problems that keep me up at night and entertain my thoughts throughout the day.
I also, however, love to learn about the sciences. I am ever curious about the make up of molecular
compounds, the interaction of particles at the subatomic level, unification theory, the origin of
mass, spooky action at a distance (one of my favorites. Thanks, Einstein,) physics influence on my
view of functions, entanglement, and the mathematics of electrical systems. This list is just the

Shell shock and PTSD are very similar when symptoms are concerned. Shell shock is considered to
be an intellectual forerunner to PTSD according to Doctor Stephen Joseph from the University of
Nottingham (Joseph). PTSD is defined by a modern criterion created by the American Psychiatric
Association. The first set of criteria includes either exposure to death, threatened death, serious
injury, or sexual violence in some way (Jones 19). The second criterion involves re living the
experience either through nightmares, flashbacks, upsetting memories, or other occurrences. There
must be a stimulus causing the re experiencing of the trauma (American Psychiatric Association).
The person must have, according to the US Department of Veterans Affairs, negative thoughts or
feelings and trauma related provocation and reactivity that began or are worsened after the trauma
(American Psychiatric Association). These symptoms must last for over one month, cause distress
or impairment to the person, and must not be the result of substance use or medication (American
Psychiatric Association). If all these are met, then the USA declares the person to have PTSD and
are counseled. This was not the case in the First World War. Thiessen depicts this in her play,
Vimy, most noticeably when Clare speaks to Laurie. Clare brings up the topic and immediately
Laurie becomes upset. He demonstrates multiple PTSD symptoms such as upsetting memories, re
experiencing trauma, negative thoughts about his life, long lasting symptoms, and he is clearly
distressed. Clare, the nurse, is frightened by what Laurie has experienced, but does nothing to help

The first aspect needs to be changed within the website is the colors and the font size used

Followers of the current system point to two major problems with the proposed system. First if
there is a significant downturn in the public securities markets, retirees will not attain the expected

How Baking Changed Over Time
Cake traditions, uses, events, and occasions have changed so much over time. Cakes were first
used as decorations by rich people, then they slowly became a dessert. It wasn t till later, after this
that they became the main dish in many special occasions including birthdays and weddings, and
shortly after that bakingcakesbecame a competition. In the 1840s there was an important
development in the kitchen and cooking technology: the temperature controlled oven. This, of

Now, thanks to all the previously mentioned inventions, everyone and anyone can make cakes
because the materials that are needed to bake a cake are easier to get. The specific invention of
the cake pan made a big change in the cake industry by introducing different shapes and sizes of
cakes. Back in the day, there were round cakes and if you really wanted to be daring, square
cakes (Anderson, 2015). Cakes used to be plain and simple from taste to look, but shortly after
the invention of the cake pans, cakes started to take a different spin. The cake pan introduced
cartoon character shapes and modern shapes including Winnie the Pooh, Spongebob, rectangles,
and hearts. The word about cakes becoming more creative didn t take long to spread before
everyone was trying the new cake pans. Today, some bakers are even talented enough to sculpt a
cake into realistic objects like Christmas trees, shoes, cars, and even scenes. They do this by
slowly cutting off pieces of cake to resemble the shape of the item or object that they want. The
new coming of different cake shapes and sizes started the evolution of cakes. Shortly after the cake

Statin Research Paper
Statins (also known as 3 hydroxy 3 methylgutaryl coenzyme A reductase inhibitors) are widely
prescribed cholesterol lowering drugs for the treatment of dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease.
Although they are considered to be drugs with a very good safety profile, there are many concerns
that their adverse effects might compromise their proven beneficial effects due to their extensive

Even though more aggressive lipid lowering with potent statins in high doses can reduce rates of
non fatal events and need for interventions, the incremental mortality benefits are still vague, and
their use is associated with a higher rate of drug related adverse effects.

Several widely used statins (such as lovastatin, atorvastatin and simvastatin) are metabolized by the
cytochrome P450 (CYP)3A4 pathway.
Co administration of statins with cyclosporine, erythromycin, niacin or fibrates carries an increased
risk for myopathy. Cyclosporin and erythromycin interact with statins via the CYP3A4 pathway and
by interfering with OAT1B1 a membrane transporter that helps regulate drug influx to the liver.
Certain drugs, such as calcium channel blockers, are considered weaker CYP3A4 inhibitors and
appear to increase statin rhabdomyolysis risk to a lower degree. Furthermore, grapefruit juice and

Effects Of Martial Law In The Philippines
On September 21, 1972, President Ferdinand Marcos issued Proclamation 1081, declaring
martial law over the Philippines. It has been 44 years since that dreadful day, but the scars still
remain in the heart of every Filipino citizen. Martial Law proclaims that an area is placed under
the control of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. It is usually imposed when the government or
civilian authorities fail to function effectively. The reason behind the declaration of Martial Law in
the Philippines was to suppress a series of bombings, threat of a communist takeover, and an
assassination attempt on Secretary of Defense Juan Ponce Enrile in Mandaluyong. This was also
imposed to save the republic and to improve the social, economic, and political... Show more

However, these good gains did not last long. Basic human rights were not attained during the
Martial Law. People at that time did not practice being disciplined at that time, but instead, they
followed orders because they feared the authorities who had the power to arrest civilians who
would disobey the rules. With power given to the military to save democracy, they committed a
number of human rights violations. An estimate of 7,000 victims of torture, 2,000 people
salvaged, and 1,000 people disappeared. (Malanes, 1999) Statistics are not just numbers. This
was a serious case of human rights violation wherein thousands of lives were lost and thousands
of families destroyed. Thus, the Martial Law is considered as the darkest days of democracy.
Human rights violations is the best evidence that there was no democracy in the Philippines during
Ferdinand Marcos regime. Additionally, the economic crisis and debt crisis caused by the Martial
Law made the country suffer. Unemployment rates were high and poverty in the Philippines only
grew larger. A lot of people remember fondly the peace and order brought by the Martial Law, but
the brutal side of the Marcos regime brought us Filipinos into hardships, sufferings, and

The Equal Pay Act Essay
One problem that Americans are facing is the inequality between men and women, whether it is in
everyday life or in a professional atmosphere. One step that has been taken toward equality was
introduced with the Equal Pay Act of 1963, signed by President John F. Kennedy. This law was the
first affecting the amount of job opportunities available for women and allowing them to work in
traditionally male dominated fields. On the outside, this would sound like a solution where nothing
could possibly go wrong, but it is not.
There are nearly as many women as there are men working, yet, as it was discovered in 2011, on
average, a woman will only earn seventy seven cents for every dollar that a man earns. Women
owned businesses make up for over a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Banks, from the 1964 Disney Movie Mary Poppins, who was neglectful toward her children on her
journey for her rights.
Feminism is a living word. There can never truly be a one set definition for the word as the term has
often shifted meanings to correspond to the time period. Feminists fight for the rights that men have
under the United States Constitution and to have the right to not be discriminated against. Any
action against any woman, intentional or not, goes against the principles that many women and
men stand for.
The quest for equal rights is usually put into two different waves: the first wave being considered
women s suffrage and the second being the equal right movement. One big uprising in feminism
happened alongside the abolitionist movement. Many women started to realize that, as they were
fighting to get African Americans out of their version of perdition at the hands of their slave
owners, that they themselves were slaves to the will of the men in society. Since many women
petitioned for antislavery, the Congress in session at the time put forth the gag rule, which placed
many of these petitions off to the side for consideration.
The feminist movement that is more recognized was started by Betty Friedan. She was the author
of The Feminine Mystique, a book that called for many women to enrich themselves from the
unnamed problem that left

Negative Effects Of The Columbian Exchange
The Columbian Exchange started in 1492 and was a network of trade. Native Americans shared
ideas, agriculture, firearms, animals, diseases and later slaves. The Columbian exchange is
responsible for introducing cattle, horses, chickens, and pigs into America. They also import
firearms to the new world. Before such weapons were proposed to Native Americans, they used
canes and sharpened sticks as weapons for defense and hunting. Although these may be seen as
positive effects of the exchange, it brought lethal diseases to the Native Americans as well. Measles,
influenza, and small pox just some of the illnesses that killed the majority of the Native American
population. The exchange brought fatal diseases killing the larger part of the populations, therefore
leading to a rise in slavery. The Columbian exchange introduced Native Americans to new
technology, agriculture and ideas, but also had the negative effect of almost wiping the population...

Christians believed that medieval era Christian Churches had become ungodly and nefarious.
They did not believe there was any need for a religious leader with great authority, such as the

correct the faulty ways of the previous churches and became know as protestants. The
Renaissance is known as the beginning of a modern world. It started in Italy in the fifteenth
century. It is known as an evolution in the arts and sciences. New art strayed away from strictly
about religion and leaned more towards nature and people. New technologies like firearms and the
printing press were invented. These inventions alone closed the separation between they royal and
the poor classes. Religion also changed due to reformers. The renaissance was an age of change

Evaluate the Effectiveness of Law Reform in Australia
Law Reform in Australia is effective in varying degrees. Through Native Title Reform and Law
Reform in Sport, the effectiveness of Law Reform in Australia is further outlined.
The term Native Title refers to the right of Indigenous people to their traditional land. In Australiait
has a legal significance of the right to an area of land, claimed by people whose ancestors were the
original inhabitants of the land before European settlement. Also who can prove that they have had
a continuous connection with the land. Native Title is the term given by the High Court to

Sport is a part of Australian culture, in which Australian athletes have performed well over the past
years. Sport Law ranges over the areas of contract law, tort law, and the criminal law. Tort law is
the body of law that deals with civil wrongs including negligence, defamation, trespass and
nuisance.
Civil litigation is court action brought to remedy a wrong or breach of contract. This is shown
through Canterbury Bulldogs player Sonny Bill Williams breached his contract by walking out on
the club after having signed a contract which was legally binding. Through this law reform has
been further enhanced in Australian sport.
Compensatory damages of more than $68,000 were awarded and the court held that Bugden s
club bore vicarious liability for assault during being employed as a player. Vicarious liability is the
legal liability imposed on one person or agent (e.g. an employer) for the wrongful acts of another,
when those acts were done within the scope of the legal relationship between them, such as
employment.

Is Preventative Medicine Be The Key For The Future Of Our...
Journal Week 4 7
The video chosen for this week s journal focused was absolutely amazing. The video focused on the
future of medicine and the many inventions that are up and coming. It was very insightful. The
focuses that really grabbed my attention was to cure the well before they get sick, personalized
healthcare, and bio informatics (Kraft, 2011). Preventative medicine is the key to the future of our
patients. As healthcare workers, we are not seeing patients until their disease process has progressed
beyond prevention and it is in a later stage that now requires treatment. The invention that interest
me the most was the virtual colonoscopy. The population I work with are mainly over the age of
50 years old. When asked if they have ever received a colonoscopy, 80% of them say they have
not. I think the virtual colonoscopy would eliminate the fear factor for most patients and would
allow us to catch diseases of the GI tract faster before treatment is needed.
Article
The article chosen for this week s journal focuses on the history of information technology within
the VA system. The Houston VA is the site where I am completing my practicum. I wanted to know
more about the foundation in regards to their information technology system. The history starts
with Electronic Accounting Machines (EAM), punch card, and the acquisition of the first
computer for the VA in the 1950 s ( VA History, 2014). It works its way through the 1960 s, a

The Reality of Sex Slavery in the Present Day
In Margaret Atwood s novel, Oryx and Crake, she constantly places the reader in an uncomfortable
environment. The story takes place in a not so distant future where today s world no longer exists
due to an unknown catastrophe. The only human is a man who calls himself the Abominable
Snowman or Snowman for short, but in his childhood days his name was Jimmy. If the thought of
being all alone in the world is not uneasy enough, Atwood takes this opportunity to point out the
flaws of the modern world through Snowman s reminiscing about Jimmy s childhood. The truths
exposed are events that people do not want to acknowledge: animal abuse for human advancement,
elimination of human interaction due to technology, and at the core of the... Show more content on

Human trafficking or sex slavery is a real occurrence. Force 4 Compassion, a website designated
to informing the public about human trafficking reports, 3,287 people are sold or kidnaped and
forced into slavery every day. That s 136 an hour and that s just the reported cases ( Human
Trafficking Facts ). Atwood shines light on the situation by stating one of the main reasons
human trafficking occurs is because there was only so much food to go around (Atwood 117).
In a world with so much why do young children and families with so little have to suffer? Why
must these girls come to peace with the images they have seen? Why must families justify the
sales of their daughters by stating In the village it was not called selling, this transaction. The
talk about it implied apprenticeship. The children were being trained to earn their living in a
wide world (Atwood 116). An honest living that involves a girl not yet a teenage to undress in
front of a man multiple times her age in exchange for money (Atwood 131). It does not have to
be that way. Atwood makes that clear. If the root of the problem is there is not enough food for
the children to survive there is a simple solution. If society was more aware of what was happening
the increase in awareness and charitable contributions could lead to a hopeful tomorrow. While this
answer seems easy enough to apply the

Pros And Cons Of Batman And Superman
Batman and Superman are DC s most valuable super heroes. They fight crime, help those in need,
and protect their cities. Truly that is hero, someone we should look up to. Or is it? Today I was
tasked with deciding whether or not, Batman and Superman do more harm than good as role
models and cultural icons. I have come to the conclusion that they do more harm than good. It s
important to note that I will be basing most of my information on the Supermanand Batmanmovie. I
have 3 main reasons why I believe this, 1 they are not relatable, 2 they solve their problems
through violence, and 3 they are very dark. Let s begin with point one.
The first reason why I agree with the statement, As role models and cultural icons, Batman and
Superman do more harm than good. Is because of how unrelatable they are to people. Starting
with Superman, he is an alien from a different world. He has powers that no one on earth can
attain, unbreakable skin, laser eyes, the ability to fly by himself, and X ray vision (Superman s).
No one can relate to any of those powers (Superman). Meanwhile, Batman is an orphan, who has
billions of dollars. Some people can relate with the loss of a loved one but very, very few have
access to even a million dollars. We look at them and see something that we can never be. Batman
and Superman are role models and cultural icons that do more harm than good.
The second reason why Batman and Superman as role models and cultural icons do more harm
than good is because they solve the majority of their problems through violence. Dr. Sharon Lamb
states, Today s superherois too much like an action hero who participates in non stop
violence...rarely speaks to the virtue of doing good for humanity, (Chivers). She is 100% correct
in this. In the 2013 movie, Man of Steel, our hero flies about destroying the city he swore to
protect. Buildings fall, lives are taken, and superman brings up no mention of any virtue by the
end of the film. He uses violence. This continues on in basically every show that includes him.
Bad guy shows up, does a bad thing, and Superman flies over, beats up the villain and wins the
day. Now we examine Batman. He does the exact same thing, gliding around his city beating up
crime and

Distillation
Steam Distillation is the process of distilling a mixture wherein one of the immiscible phases is a
steam. It is a mild method for separating and purifying volatile liquid or solid organic compounds
that are immiscible or insoluble in water. This technique is not applicable to substances that react
with water, decompose on prolonged contact with steam or hot water, or have a vapor pressureof
less than about 5 torr at 100В°C. One way to perform steam distillationis through the live steam
method. It is the more widely used method. It is especially used with high molecular weight (low
vapor pressure) substances. Although it requires more complex setup, this method reduces bumping.
Principles Involved Live steam distillation is based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
6.Use an ice bath to increase the efficiency of condensation in the receiving flask.
7.Remove at least a tenth part of the distillate once it is already clear.
8.When distillation is to be stopped, the clamp in the water trap should be opened and the steam
inlet tube must be removed from the three necked flask (distilling flask).
9.Hot steam can produce severe burns so steam inlet tube must be cooled a little first before holding
and attaching it to the distilling flask.
10.Cool the whole setup first before dismantling.
11.The thermometer bulb should be below the side arm of the three way adapter.
12.When droplets condensate at the thermometer bulb, the temperature reading is the boiling point.
13.When the first drop of liquid falls into the receiving flask, the temperature reading is the
distillation temperature.
14.Cold water should constantly run through the lower half of the condenser and then water should
go out of the top part of the condenser.
15.When a solid substance is placed in the distilling flask for the live steam method, water is not
needed to be placed with it.
16.Cover joints or connections of two apparatuses with aluminum foil or Plaster of Paris to insulate
it so steam vapors won t condensate there.
Reasons for Important Steps

Mermaid Stereotypes
Many people believe mermaids and other sea creatures are mythological, because of folklore
stereotypes, rare sightings, and contrived evidence. From 586 A.D. to the twentieth century,
people believe that these magical creatures thrive in the deepest parts of the ocean. There are
many supposed sightings of mermaids, some believe these creatures can bring fortune or death;
through numerous sightings these stories are very similar. Some say they saw women with
beauty like no other, her hair the color of black, and her torso just like a women, while from her
waist down was the bottom half of a porpoise, or a fish. These women were either luring men with
their tempted voice to the bottom of the ocean where they would drown or sometimes even causing

With rare sightings, and contrived evidence many people don t know the origin of these stories,
and many don t bother trying to figure it out. However, storytellers had a tendency to tell the
people what they wanted to hear. So they were quite happy to bend the truth to please their
audience if, for example, they thought the audience would pay more for a different ending! The
truth was sometimes the least important thing. (Myths and Legends) This proves that money and
wealth were and are, in today s world, more important than the truth and reality of stories. People
used to tell stories, because they saw and witnessed what happened, but over time people have
initiated how we tell things: switching out information to make the story better and less genuine.
Over decade and centuries, people have contrived evidence to prove the authenticity of mermaids
and other mythological creatures; and decade after decade, people have been caught for forgery
and artificial evidence. Therefore, many people only know what people tell them, but in order to
figure something out, sometimes all we need is our own

The virtue in his features coincides with neither that of the revolutionaries nor the bland features of

The Police Force Is Justified
A police force is a constituted body of persons empowered by the state to enforce the law, protect
property, and limit civil disorder . Or in layman s terms, a body formed to serve and protect
civilians. With the Ferguson incident of an African American boy getting shot by a white American
police officer, it came to the limelight that how America s policeforce has gone to the extent of
acquiring military grade equipment, armor, gear .With sheer ignorance, unreasonable argument and
lack of reliable citation sources, Fox Newsconveys how the militarization of the police force is
justified. Ironically this militarization is supposedly necessary and justified, but in reality it only
amplifies violence, distrust of police, and use of excessive force.
Soon after the Michael Brown incident in Ferguson, Fox News channel during a segment of its

was made up of all white men namely Jon Dietl (Fox News contributor), Bernie Kerik (former
NYC Police Commissioner) and retired Nutley Police Commander Steven Rogers (Retd. Nutley

The panelists spoke for the motion, defending the action taken by the police. In this segment the
host and panelists were having a casual conversation on the given topic. Instead of bringing about a
diverse panel with different points of view, Fox News had its panel only consisting of white
Caucasian men with the same ideologies and thought

  • 2. Lofty Diction In The Life Of St Degory Saint Gregory of Nyssa opens his narrative The Life of St. Macrina, with a justification as to why he is documenting accounts of St. Macrina s life. St. Gregory, St. Macrina s brother, sets out to create a narrative that is both artless and simple , but rather, we receive a rich, detailed expression of admiration and praise (77). According to St. Gregory, Macrina was the spiritual leader in their family, using her knowledge of Scripture and philosophy to motivate her family and others to cast off the illusion of a material life. With a wealth of knowledge and the ability to persuade others, Macrina rose to the position of Superior. Saint Gregory, in his work The Life of St. Macrina, utilizes lofty diction, tone, and a clear characterization of Macrina, which enables us to see how through Christianity, women of the 3rd century had the freedom to establish an identity outside of the secular, patriarchal world, and what levels of respect that identity yielded. St. Gregory s use of lofty diction is apparent when he describes their mother s character. By using lofty diction such as extremely virtuous, exceptionally pure, and spotless, it is obvious St. Gregory holds his mother in high esteem, even though she was not a handmaid for the church like Macrina (77). Moreover, if these are the words he chooses when describing his mother, we can see why his word choice is lofty for Macrina, who held the respected position of Superior later in her life. Nonetheless, due to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. What Is The Theme Of The Snow Child By Angela Carter 3.Angela Carter s The Snow Child In The Snow Child , Angela Carter criticizes gender roles as well as the result of when we can finally fulfill a desire and this is conveyed in a very interesting way. Angela Carter does not simply rewrite the story of Snow White but rather represents the objectification of the female gender, even in a premature age. This story belongs to the post modern literary era, which is known for deconstructing things, going deep to the core, criticizing and pointing things out. All those things can be found in this story, not only as a post modern feature but also as a feminist feature. The tales in [The Bloody Chamber] still foreground the violence and abuse but the narrative itself provides an exuberant re writing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Identity In Odd Places Identity in odd places Identity is the idiosyncrasies, backgrounds, and character traits that separate people from one another. Self discipline and mental toughness are just two of the many characteristics I ve had to develop throughout my life success in school, sports, and life in general rely greatly on these traits. I always hated drivingto my Grandmas but this one trip tested my abilities greatly. From preparing for, committing, and carrying out the road trip, I was tested every step of the journey. Getting prepared for the road trip was almost as painful as the car ride itself. I considered preparing the car for a trip equivalent to preparing for a ride in an electric chair. Except instead of preparing for a quick execution, I was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I would put in headphones and listen to music or work on homework while I still had the energy. I would always drink at least one entire Gatorade bottle within ten minutes of the trip but this time I was extra thirsty and had two regular sized Gatorades and a water, and like clockwork my mom looked at me disgusted like I just ate a booger and said, Why did you do that? You are going to have to pee 5 miles down the road! I m not stopping for at least fifty so you ll just have to pee yourself . After that I didn t pay attention to anything outside the car because for the first fifty to one hundred miles I saw repetitions of old memories. The boring scenery and lack of sleep took its toll on me after about an hour where each minute that passed by was like a punch from Mike Tyson making my sight fade closer to darkness with each swing. I have never lasted an entire car trip without falling asleep in the first leg of the trip in my life. Even if I had got plenty of sleep the night before, the first leg would inevitably knock me out. One thing that I liked, even though it is also part of the reason I fell asleep, is that during the first hour of driving I got to see the interesting change in scenery from my suburban town with huge houses and crystal blue lakes that sparkle as I go by. Then it slowly faded into one office building and then another and another until a city erupted from the ground around me and I had seen the city lights and people of all different races, cultures, and backgrounds go by. As quickly as it started, it faded back away into the distance behind me and the beautiful lush wooded areas that are so common in the north unfolded around me until all I could see were giant trees around me and a road that doesn t seem to end ahead of me. I had been really interested into the sights and I had loved drawing when I was younger. I had a nice notebook just for drawing and I really wanted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This idea is known or referred to as the American Dream. The idea of the American dream promotes the belief that every United States citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative. Success and prosperity fall anywhere on the spectrum of career, family, assets, and ultimately happiness. As this generation is able to relate to celebrities (the upper class elites) based on many different factors, develop the idea that if this upper class elite can make it so can the regular individual because that same celebrity was in fact once a regular civilian too. Generally speaking, with the ability to relate is one of the major factors in what thrives the concept of the American dream as it demonstrates anyone is able to obtain such success. Location, race, and the upbringing of the upper class elites creates this belief because before these individuals were able to obtain such success many of them shared that same neighborhood, family dynamics, classrooms, and the environment as a whole with the regular citizen as they were consider such too before the success encountered. Sidney Bechet Research Paper Perla G Chavira Sean Hennessey Jazz History 02 February 2017 Sidney Bechet Similar to Louis Armstrong a man named Sidney Bechet was a jazz musician who was among the best of New Orleans Jazz. Bechet was born into a middle class Creole family that accepted music as a huge part of their lives. Omar Bechet was Sidney s father; he was a flute player who played music as a pass time. Sidney had four brothers who also played instruments, Leonard was one of his brothers, Leonard played the trombone and also the clarinet. Sidney took on an interest in the clarinet and Leonard passed on his clarinet to Sidney (The Bechet Society. 1997). When Sidney Bechet first began playing clarinet, he would perform quadrilles, waltzes, and overall polite music meant for the middle class. Bechet many times would ditch class when he was a child to become proficient at his instrument and even started to play in local jazz groups. As Bechet grew older, he began playing more syncopated pieces in brothels and dance halls. Bechet performed and impressed Bunk Johnson, a legend, who played cornet. Graff, Anderson, and Rackham, who are undoubtedly Ender s friends, appear to him as enemies and are forced to do so. Peter attempts to befriend Valentine merely to get what he wants, but she never forgets that he is not a real friend. Petra Arkanian and Dink Meeker are always Ender s friends, but at times he is uncertain of where they stand. But by far the most striking juxtaposition occurs with the buggers. • 10. The Namesake Theme The foreign domain is a factor that carries the national identity of the people from different places. The traditions and identities of each character are intertwined in the notion of foreign culture and ethnic minority culture. The association of the alien characters in the new community demonstrates a new identity construction. This type of concept of a new life in a new place brings out a foreign experience that is hard to adapt. However, his intentions were morally just and noble by simply playing a patriotic song for the soldiers risking their lives for the American people in Vietnam. He incorporates his artistic side as a musician by including sounds of war, barrage of gunfire, and bombs that American soldier face with the use of the whammy bar. From the beginning, Hendrix s basics of playing were completely different from everyone else; he did not play with the C Major Chord like many guitarists would, instead he did it outside the box (Jones). The effects of shock are initially reversible but can rapidly become irreversible, resulting in multi organ failure (MOF) and death. when a patient present with undifferentiated hypotension, it is important that the clinician rapidly identify the aetiology so that appropriate therapy can be administered to prevent MOF and death (Vincent, 2013). When something negative happens to any of us we tend to isolate ourselves, leaving ourselves to our thoughts for a while before blending back into society. This isolation is good for a while, it allows us to clear our heads and think things through before going back into a normal routine. Prolonged isolation however, has been proven to be potentially dangerous. Holden Caulfield isolates himself from the phoniness of the world, thinking highly of himself and somehow believes he is different from everyone else he s ever met. • 21. Emphasizing The True Meaning Of Poems By Andrew Marvell... Kinsey Jordan Mrs. Russler English Honors I February 4, 2015 Emphasizing the True Meaning of Poems Around the seventeenth century the poets Andrew Marvell and John Donne expressed their feelings through poetry. Both John Donne, born in 1572 and Andrew Marvell, born in 1621 in England, are known for their ideas of metaphysical poetry. Metaphysical poetry is a persuasive poem that uses a conceit. It focuses on imagery, paradoxes, arguments, philosophy and religion. Andrew Marvell s To His Coy Mistress and John Donne s A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning, focus on the theme of love, which was trending at that time. Although both poems justify the importance and essence of love, the tone differs in each poem making them distant from each other. The figurative language also makes the two poems different. However, they both focus on the idea of Carpe Diem, enjoying the moment and not worrying about the future. Through comparing these poems, the differences and similarities result in the true understanding and effectiveness of the poems. In To His Coy Mistress, Andrew Marvell does not perceive true, fervent love, but rather that time and beauty will not last. The tone of this poem is sad, but the author seems to make it happier. There is an example shown in the first stanza; Had we but world enough and time...we would sit down, and think which way to walk, and pass our long love s day. • 24. Word Choice And Imagery In The Minefield By Daniel Thiel The Minefield, a poem by Daniel Thiel, portrays itself in an obscure yet abrupt manner in which a hungry, fourteen year old boy, only looking for a head of lettuce, is blown up by a minefield. The word choice and imagery in the poem consequently conveys the vision of the minefield explosion (by the father) being unleashed through the acts of fury and violencetowards his children. Word choice conveys this vision through explicit yet traumatic experiences with the past explosionby referencing how, only fourteen, innocent, hungry, and under good intention, was the friend blown up. For example, on the first two lines of stanza three, Thiel depicts the scattered boyas someone who, ...carried them underneath his good intentions , /turned his head, looked back once, / and his body was scattered across the field (Stanza 1, line 8 9). The word choice within these quotes makes the young boy appear blameless given his traumatic fate. On the second stanza, the two lines may indicate that the father is recalling a memory at a dinner table towards his children. Furthermore, the word choice that compares the memory to anger displacement can be seen on the third stanza on lines 14 17 in which the father gave the ...volume of his anger to his children, which resulted in the bruises, we covered up with sleeves./ In the way, he threw anything against the wall... , such as a radio. Following the line, Thiel then compares how his father threw a melon, having it open, like a head, which is a direct reference to the father s past experience in regards to the explosion. Secondly, the word Simic 2 choice following the previous line references how the kids of the distressed father are now traumatized from the father s outbursts of violence and destruction, that anything might explode at any time. Imagery for The Minefield, however, portrays a similar approach in relation to word choice. • 32. Shell Shock And PTSD In Vimy By Vern Thiessen The Mind at War Men and women, alike, have been fighting for their rights and freedoms over many centuries. Due to the gruesome acts carried out and witnessed, these wars can inflict psychological damage to such combatants. Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a condition where one has been traumatized by something in their past. This ordeal disrupts sleep and causes the continuous vivid recollection of the upsetting event on a daily basis for the victims (Jones 17). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shell shock and PTSD are very similar when symptoms are concerned. Shell shock is considered to be an intellectual forerunner to PTSD according to Doctor Stephen Joseph from the University of Nottingham (Joseph). PTSD is defined by a modern criterion created by the American Psychiatric Association. The first set of criteria includes either exposure to death, threatened death, serious injury, or sexual violence in some way (Jones 19). The second criterion involves re living the experience either through nightmares, flashbacks, upsetting memories, or other occurrences. There must be a stimulus causing the re experiencing of the trauma (American Psychiatric Association). The person must have, according to the US Department of Veterans Affairs, negative thoughts or feelings and trauma related provocation and reactivity that began or are worsened after the trauma (American Psychiatric Association). These symptoms must last for over one month, cause distress or impairment to the person, and must not be the result of substance use or medication (American Psychiatric Association). If all these are met, then the USA declares the person to have PTSD and are counseled. This was not the case in the First World War. Thiessen depicts this in her play, Vimy, most noticeably when Clare speaks to Laurie. Clare brings up the topic and immediately Laurie becomes upset. He demonstrates multiple PTSD symptoms such as upsetting memories, re experiencing trauma, negative thoughts about his life, long lasting symptoms, and he is clearly distressed. Clare, the nurse, is frightened by what Laurie has experienced, but does nothing to help because she does not know how. He clearly states: You re not just getting me. Feminists fight for the rights that men have under the United States Constitution and to have the right to not be discriminated against. Any action against any woman, intentional or not, goes against the principles that many women and men stand for. The quest for equal rights is usually put into two different waves: the first wave being considered women s suffrage and the second being the equal right movement. One big uprising in feminism happened alongside the abolitionist movement. Many women started to realize that, as they were fighting to get African Americans out of their version of perdition at the hands of their slave owners, that they themselves were slaves to the will of the men in society. Since many women petitioned for antislavery, the Congress in session at the time put forth the gag rule, which placed many of these petitions off to the side for consideration. Truly that is hero, someone we should look up to. Or is it? Today I was tasked with deciding whether or not, Batman and Superman do more harm than good as role models and cultural icons. I have come to the conclusion that they do more harm than good. It s important to note that I will be basing most of my information on the Supermanand Batmanmovie. I have 3 main reasons why I believe this, 1 they are not relatable, 2 they solve their problems through violence, and 3 they are very dark. Let s begin with point one. The first reason why I agree with the statement, As role models and cultural icons, Batman and Superman do more harm than good. Is because of how unrelatable they are to people. Starting with Superman, he is an alien from a different world. He has powers that no one on earth can attain, unbreakable skin, laser eyes, the ability to fly by himself, and X ray vision (Superman s). No one can relate to any of those powers (Superman). Meanwhile, Batman is an orphan, who has billions of dollars. Some people can relate with the loss of a loved one but very, very few have access to even a million dollars. We look at them and see something that we can never be. Batman and Superman are role models and cultural icons that do more harm than good. The second reason why Batman and Superman as role models and cultural icons do more harm than good is because they solve the majority of their problems through violence. Dr. Sharon Lamb states, Today s superherois too much like an action hero who participates in non stop violence...rarely speaks to the virtue of doing good for humanity, (Chivers). She is 100% correct in this. In the 2013 movie, Man of Steel, our hero flies about destroying the city he swore to protect. Buildings fall, lives are taken, and superman brings up no mention of any virtue by the end of the film. He uses violence. This continues on in basically every show that includes him. Bad guy shows up, does a bad thing, and Superman flies over, beats up the villain and wins the day. Now we examine Batman. He does the exact same thing, gliding around his city beating up crime and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Distillation Steam Distillation is the process of distilling a mixture wherein one of the immiscible phases is a steam. It is a mild method for separating and purifying volatile liquid or solid organic compounds that are immiscible or insoluble in water. This technique is not applicable to substances that react with water, decompose on prolonged contact with steam or hot water, or have a vapor pressureof less than about 5 torr at 100В°C. One way to perform steam distillationis through the live steam method. It is the more widely used method. It is especially used with high molecular weight (low vapor pressure) substances. Although it requires more complex setup, this method reduces bumping. Principles Involved Live steam distillation is based ... Reasons for Important Steps When the set up is being assembled, make sure that the instruments are fastened securely to the ring stand. If the set up calls for ground glass joints, lubrication is a need to assure that there would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Mermaid Stereotypes Many people believe mermaids and other sea creatures are mythological, because of folklore stereotypes, rare sightings, and contrived evidence. From 586 A.D. to the twentieth century, people believe that these magical creatures thrive in the deepest parts of the ocean. There are many supposed sightings of mermaids, some believe these creatures can bring fortune or death; through numerous sightings these stories are very similar. Some say they saw women with beauty like no other, her hair the color of black, and her torso just like a women, while from her waist down was the bottom half of a porpoise, or a fish. These women were either luring men with their tempted voice to the bottom of the ocean where they would drown or sometimes even causing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With rare sightings, and contrived evidence many people don t know the origin of these stories, and many don t bother trying to figure it out. However, storytellers had a tendency to tell the people what they wanted to hear. So they were quite happy to bend the truth to please their audience if, for example, they thought the audience would pay more for a different ending! The truth was sometimes the least important thing. (Myths and Legends) This proves that money and wealth were and are, in today s world, more important than the truth and reality of stories. People used to tell stories, because they saw and witnessed what happened, but over time people have initiated how we tell things: switching out information to make the story better and less genuine. Over decade and centuries, people have contrived evidence to prove the authenticity of mermaids and other mythological creatures; and decade after decade, people have been caught for forgery and artificial evidence. Therefore, many people only know what people tell them, but in order to figure something out, sometimes all we need is our own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. Rob Roy The virtue in his features coincides with neither that of the revolutionaries nor the bland features of the bank, which are described just before. He is shown to have a very different honesty and courage that France lacked and that Victorians would not usually have associated with trade. This forms a sharp contrast to the revolution and strengthens his purity of character. When he must face the dangers of France, he does not compromise his honesty or loyalty towards either his businessor his friends. His choices are described in saying, His own possessions, safety, life, he would have hazarded for Lucie and her child, without a moment s demur; but the great trust he held was not his own, and as to that business charge he was a strict man... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Rob Roy, we are presented with Andrew Fairservice who is neither honest nor loyal. He is Frank s servant throughout the novel who is commonly trying to cheat Frank out of money, despite his pretences of faithfulness. At one point, he tries to cheat Frank by selling his own horse for one that s lame and begs money from Frank when Frank tells him to get the other back again. Frank very nearly falls for this plea, but Jarvie arrives in time and instantly cut short all debate, by pronouncing, that if Fairservice did not forthwith return the three legged palfrey, and produce the more useful quadruped which he had discarded, he would send him to prison, and amerce him in half his wages (Scott). Thus, Jarvie uses his knowledge and understanding of trade to prevent Andrew from taking advantage of Frank. This happens more than once in the novel and there is such a contrast between Andrew s dishonesty in business and Jarvie s strict honesty, as well as both their sense and practicality that Andrew s way of approaching exchange is ridiculous rather than ... • 54. The Police Force Is Justified A police force is a constituted body of persons empowered by the state to enforce the law, protect property, and limit civil disorder . Or in layman s terms, a body formed to serve and protect civilians. With the Ferguson incident of an African American boy getting shot by a white American police officer, it came to the limelight that how America s policeforce has gone to the extent of acquiring military grade equipment, armor, gear .With sheer ignorance, unreasonable argument and lack of reliable citation sources, Fox Newsconveys how the militarization of the police force is justified. Ironically this militarization is supposedly necessary and justified, but in reality it only amplifies violence, distrust of police, and use of excessive force. Soon after the Michael Brown incident in Ferguson, Fox News channel during a segment of its Fox and Friends had a panel discussion focusing on the Militarization of Police . The invited panel was made up of all white men namely Jon Dietl (Fox News contributor), Bernie Kerik (former NYC Police Commissioner) and retired Nutley Police Commander Steven Rogers (Retd. Nutley Police Commander). The panelists spoke for the motion, defending the action taken by the police. In this segment the host and panelists were having a casual conversation on the given topic. Instead of bringing about a diverse panel with different points of view, Fox News had its panel only consisting of white Caucasian men with the same ideologies and thought ...
