The Obstacle Of Organizing Government
The obstacle of organizing government around the environment is that, for the most part, society is
too focused on economic growth for the environment to take a precedent. And, as Leopold notes,
land...is still property (Leopold 218). The environment, or for Leopold the land, is not a global
citizen in it of itself. Rather, the land is merely a tool for the continued economic growth. Since
land has limited legal rights, Leopold sees that humans see no harm in exploiting the environment
for capital gain. As such, granting the environment legal protection would, as Leopold saw it, be a
better means of conservation efforts.
Leopold described a system of ethics that, when applied appropriately, apply to both man and land.
Despite defining an ethic as both a limitation on freedom off action in the struggle for existence
and a differentiation of social from anti social conduct, Leopold saw little difference between an
ethological the former and the philosophical the latter definitions of an ethic (Leopold 217 218).
Both definitions create a sense of cooperation between individuals. However, the issue for the
human land relation is that, currently, ethics is not being applied. The land relation is still strictly
economic, entailing privileges but not obligations (Leopold 218). As Leopold saw it, mankind
understands the need for the natural world, so there exists a limited sense of respect. However,
unlike the ethics shared between human beings, the rights of land are not

An Analysis Of Richard J. Webbs And Wendy Chapkins
The main objective of Dying to Get High, a book written by Richard J. Webbs and Wendy
Chapkins, is to spread awareness of the benefits of medical marijuana. A major topic of this
book is WAMM, Wo/Men s alliance for Medical Marijuana, which is a group that encourages the
use of medical marijuana for ill patients who are eligible. They primarily argue that these patients
could benefit from the therapeutic effects of medical marijuana, yet it is considered illegal
according to the law. Throughout this book, several stories are told by patients themselves, court
cases are depicted, and battles are fought for the legalization of medical marijuana. The main
discussion of Dying to Get High is the use and legalization of medical marijuana, a highly debated
topic. Chapter one discusses how in early times, marijuana was a common medicinethat treated
many medical conditions. Through the years, it began to be seen as a dangerous substance to due
to social issues such as the association with other racial groups that created this moral panic.
Therefore, marijuana is classified as a Schedule 1 controlled substance, though there were many
studies that proved that this substance as minimal effects. Chapter two shows how in an attempt to
spread awareness of the medical uses of marijuana, WAMM, Wo/Men s alliance for Medical
Marijuana, was created. This is a nonprofit group that grew cannabisand gave it to their members
for free in return for donations or volunteer work from those members.

The City Of Saint Paul Called Washington Technology Magnet...
Over a millennium, women and men sports have never been viewed the same. When sports were
first originated it was only meant for men to compete. During this time, women were forbidden to
compete. Woman were always underestimated or never taken for serious. Even to this day women
sports are still being seen the same way, especially in high schoolsports. One school in particular
that will be focused on in this paper is in the city of Saint Paul called Washington Technology
Magnet School. This school is a victim just like many other schools out there that women s sports
are not getting enough fundings compared to the men s programs they have because woman sports
are being considered inferior. One way to solve this problem, in this... Show more content on

With these numbers of schools that participate a lot of woman sports teams are not getting the
equal treatment they deserve. In 1972 the Congress passed an Educational Amendment stating
that all federally funded schools should not discriminate anybody by gender from playing
sports. (History of Title IX. 2011, September 13). The title 9 was made to give equality to all
participants who are playing for a school. Mainly for girls who were discriminated from playing
sports. U.S Secretary of Education, Rod Paige said Without a doubt, Title IX has opened the doors
of opportunity for generations of women and girls to compete, to achieve, and to pursue their
American Dreams. This Administration is committed to building on those successes. (United
States. Department of Education; United States. Secretary of Education s Commission on
Opportunity in Athletics, 2003, 2) Even though this law has been passed and has ensure equality
to a lot of woman out there, there is still a handful of high schools that break this law. Torrey Pines
High School had a women s basketball team that went undefeated in the year of 2013. But it still
showed that the boys games had more fundings than the girls team. The bleachers would be close
to full every game, even though the boys team at this high school didn t have a great season like
the women s team for this school. According to this

The Reality Of The Beholder From The Ancient Dialogues...
What is Reality? I plan on discussing each section of this essay; however, they do coincide with
each other in the topic. I will try to explain my reasoning on how they would question relates to
one another. First, what is the difference between appearance and reality? What is the reality of
being in a new place, instead of being in a society of other people around you? Does one person
think they can another s perceptionof their world? Does everything lead to good, and what is good
in the eye of the beholder from the ancient dialogues from Plato and Socrates? Lets starts from the
beginning, by distinguishing the difference between reality and appearances. Is it something that is
done by everyone on a daily basis? Whether it is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another way of thinking of reality and appearance is the theory of idealism. Idealism is only
things that really exist are our minds and their ideas. An Irish Bishop named George Berkeley view
of idealism is ...though it were possible that solid, figured, moveable substances may exist without
the mind... yet how [could we] know this? Either we must know it by sense or by reason.
(Rachels Rachels, 2012, p. 128). Berkeley also goes to mention that our senses comes our
knowledge of sensations and ideas that come from the mind, and our reason is for us to believe in
the existence of physical objects that is a necessary connection between the physical world and
our ideas. Another approach is direct versus indirect realism, which deals with the perception of
our reality or mental state. Direct idealism deals with common sense and with the facts of
things; however, indirect idealism is the opposite of which it holds the idea of perception of
something with our idea of an object that we are aware of. Now, how is reflecting with Plato s
story of the Allegory of the Cave, and reality and appearance the same? In the story of the
Allegory of the Cave, goes with the following understanding of the Cave. The cave is a world
where prisoners live chained to the ground, and the captors cast shadows on the wall and these
shadows construct reality for the prisoners. One of the prisoners is freed by the

Race and Affirmative Action Essay
Race and Affirmative Action
Race is an issue that is embedded in the nation s history and continues to spur discussions on how
the different minorities and ethnic groups must be treated fairly. Affirmative action is a recent
attempt to solve the discriminations produced by racial inequality. However, affirmative actionis
also being scrutinized as scholars and the public debate the benefits and harms of affirmative action.
A Historical View
Throughout the past 30 years, affirmative action has been the answer to racial inequality. The policy
began in 1965 under President Johnson. It was used to redress issues of discrimination, following
the civil rights laws and constitutional guarantees on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, by the late 1970s flaws surfaced in the affirmative action policy. Reverse
discrimination became an issue, epitomized by the Bakke case of 1978. A medical school that
had accepted less qualified minority applicants had rejected Allan Bakke, a white male, two
consecutive years. The school had a separate admissions policy for minorities. It reserved 16 out
of 100 places for minority students. The Supreme Court voted that it was unconstitutional to set
inflexible quota systems in affirmative action programs. The medical school had discriminated
against a white applicant. In the same ruling, however, the Court upheld the legality of
affirmative action in forms other than quota systems. In 1979 the Supreme Court reflected the
Bakke decision. The Supreme Court ruled in AFO CIO v. Weber, 444 U.S. 889 that race
conscious affirmative action efforts designed to eliminate a conspicuous racial imbalance in an
employer s workforce resulting from past discrimination was permissible, as long as the actions
were temporary and did not violate the rights of white employees. College admission imbalances
have resurfaced as a problem for affirmative action. Recently, the Smith v. University of
Washington case upheld the university s affirmative action program, although the program could no
longer be used after the passage of Initiative 200 in 1998. Initiative 200 is a controversial

How Enzymes Affect Our Body
Enzymes are biologically active proteins that serve as catalysts; they have the ability to speed up
chemical reactions. Without a catalyst many biochemical reactions will be carried out too slowly
for the body to benefit. All sorts of enzymes occur naturally in our bodies, some help digest food.
An enzymesuch as amylase is present in saliva which breaks down starch into smaller maltose
molecules. Without an enzyme holding the large molecule in position, this reaction will be
extremely slow. Every reaction requires certain amount of energy to form. Enzymes lower the
activation energy (amount energy required to be put into the reaction to begin). It does this by
applying pressure to bonds that require s the molecule to break, or bring the molecules closer to
bond. The molecules or chemicals the enzymes work on are called substrates, substrates then bind
to the enzyme active site, once they bond to the active site, the enzyme will change shape to fit the
substrate, and this is known as the induced fit model. All enzymes are specific to particular
molecules or chemicals and are usually named after their substrate ase . For example lactase is an
enzyme that breaks down lactose.
Allosteric enzymes differ from non allosteric enzymes. Allosteric enzymes at least have more than
one binding site, where as regular enzymes have one or more site that they can bind to. Unlike
allosteric enzymes, if a non allosteric enzyme binds to an enzymes active site this does not increase

Steroids In Bigger, Stronger, Faster Summary
Bigger, Stronger, Faster was such a very interesting documentary about director Christopher Bell
getting answers on the issue on the use of steroids today. Mr. Bell had personal stories about
himself and his 2 brothers Mark Bell Smelly and Mike Bell Mad Dog with the constant use of
taking anabolic steroids. He admitted he felt guilty about taking one injection of steroids so he
discontinued taking them, as for his brothers he interviewed both of them getting their point of
view on anabolic steroids and their constant use of drug. Mad Dog had the dream of becoming a
professional wresting star with one of the big time wrestling company WWE, and he did all that he
could to reach that goal even by taking steroids to gain that extra edge.... Show more content on

I used to compete in high school powerlifting, and was the best at what I did. I would train day
after day to impress my coaches as well as myself so I could be ready for the weekend in which I
had to compete against rival schools. Three weeks before my last powerlifting meet to qualify to
go to the state round my coach pulls me to the side to give me a short talk. He said Son you are
going up against some of the best powerlifters in the state and I personally think you will not be
ready, so I want to give you this for help. He handed me a box and in it contained syringes and
anabolic steroids so I can inject myself. Personally I thought that was a terrible idea to have to
train all day and night so I will be ready to compete then have my coach tell me to cheat, I declined
my coaches offer. I feel anabolic steroids are the wrong way to go, and I will not cheat my way
in life. If I were to succeed in my state meet then I will prove my doubters wrong. If I were to lose

The Wine And Beer Making Process Essay
If you ve read my About page then you know this blog is about delving into the wine and beer
making process. If you haven t then I invite to learn more about me and my blog. But before we
delve into the technicalities of making wine I wanted to share some interesting facts I have learned
about red wine. There are numerous varieties of red winebut there are only four popular types:
Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Merlot.
Cabernet Sauvignon
The Cabernet Sauvignon grape is a small thick skinned, blue purple grape with lots of seeds in
proportion to its size(A 150). There are two main reasons that Cabernet Sauvignon continues to
thrill our palates and table. The first is its ability to adapt to the soil and climate. The second is
its ability to resist plant viruses and diseases (B 38). Two significant sites for Cabernet
Sauvignon are Bordeaux, France and Napa Valley, California (A 152). In France, the ancient
gravel of Bordeaux holds heat, which allows the vines to stay warm while at the same time
preventing the vine from truly thriving. It is the barely surviving that makes the flavor, so
intense and produces the highly sought after fruit (A 152). In California s Napa Valley it is the
ability of the rocky and volcanic soil of the alluvial (fan??) to hold water and nutrients, which
creates the signature flavor (A 153). When it comes to bottling Cabernet Sauvignon it is rarely
bottled alone. In Bordeaux it is usually part of a team of red grapes that includes either

Life Styles Inventory
Introduction
Individuals possess different skills that have an impact on their thinking and management style. The
style varies from individual to individual depending on their opinions, perceptions, thoughts, and
skills. The Life Style Inventory is a tool, which can be used to analyze and evaluate the
management and leadership skills of an individual. The LSI has different styles and individuals
can rate the styles according to their own skills. It will help in analyzing the management and
leadership capabilities of an individual by evaluating the key skills. I have taken the LSI test to
analyze and examine my skills, which can help in selecting an appropriate management and
leadership style to achieve success and growth.
Personal Thinking Styles The cognitive and thought process of individuals is influenced by the
personal attributes, skills, capabilities, and perceptions of individuals. The personal thinking style
varies from individual to individual depending on various factors and resources. Evaluation of
personal skills helps in developing and enhancing skills so that success can be achieved. The LSI
results have helped me in realizing my personal thinking style, which has a strong impact on my
behavior, perception, and attitude. The LSI result suggests that I belong to the avoidance category,
which means that I use defensive and aggressive strategies to prove my point and

German Unification Of Germany
German unification was a changing aspect in European history because of the fact that Germany
was reliant on their leader Bismarck. Before unification Germany was isolated into thirty nine
individual states, which was united in a procedure that began in 1849 and finished in 1871.The
principal architect of unification was a German statesman, Otto Von Bismarck. Bismarck #39;s
main aim was to unite the
German states into one capable nation and gain control for Prussia. He was beginning to create and
refine his claim political logic, quot;Realpolitik quot;. This was summed up in the statement he
made: quot; The only sound foundation of a great state is state egoism and not romanticism it is
unworthy of a great state to fight for something in which it has no interest. quot; He aimed at
making Prussia the leader of Germany, and
Germany the leading nation of Europe. Therefore, he promised to utilize the strategies for
quot;blood and iron quot; to bring all the German nation together under the Prussian monarchy.
There were three short Prussian wars during the nineteenth century which brought about the
unification of the German states. The war against Denmark (1864), The Austro Prussian War
(1866), and
The Franco Prussian war (1870 1871). The importance of the war against Denmark was that it was
a means of gaining the help of Prussia towards the new army reforms. The war against Austria
brought about the final defeat of liberalism in Germany and the removal of Austria in all German

Photosynthesis Lab Report
The alternative hypothesis for the photosynthesis vs irradiance experiment was initially estimated
to be; Ulva grown under low light will have a steeper initial slope, and a lower Pmax than Ulva
grown under high light. The results have shown the initial slope (alpha) for the low light was 1.21
and for the high lightwas 0.81, therefore low light did have a steeper slope that Ulva grown under
low light. This would be because in the low light Ulva, light is a more of a limiting factor than for
the high light Ulva, therefore the low light algae have adapted to harvest the light to suit their
environment. This is done by rapidly increasing or decreasing the pigment content in response to
the light availability levels. By doing this the low light... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The predicted hypothesis for this experiment was Ulva grown under low light will have a higher
chlorophyll a content and a higher chlorophyll b content than Ulva grown under high light. The
reason that this assumption was made is because Ulva that is growing in light limiting areas need
to be able to harvest as much light as possible while the light is available. Chlorophyll a is able to
absorb light in the red and blue spectrum while chlorophyll b is able to absorb light at intermediate
wavelengths, as discussed in the introduction. The T tests results that were calculated concluded to
be: chlorophyll a (0.17), chlorophyll b (0.47) and the total chlorophyll (0.37). Since all three p
values are greater than 0.05, it can be concluded that there is no difference between the low and
high light means, therefore the predicted (alternate) hypothesis can be rejected. In theory the
experiment should have resulted as the alternative hypothesis predicted, but consequently errors
have occurred that have prevents this outcome. All the class data was combined, therefore nine
replications were conducted which would have eliminated human error, but unfortunately the Ulva
used mightn t have been grown under the high and low light conditions for long enough for the
chlorophyll to adapt to the

This storyline was all based around moving Mrs. Frisby home to safety in order to steer clear of
plowing season. Throughout the story, we are able to witness Mrs. Frisby go to extreme lengths
to save her home and keep her family happy. Although it is not an easy process, Mrs. Frisby
never gave up. Her home was her safety net and the place where her family could all be together.
Mrs. Frisby and her children were especially lucky to even have a house. Although it was a
slightly damaged cinder block, the hollow kind with two ovals through it, but it was the place
they called home and they would make it work no matter what the season (pg. 38). There was no
way she was going to let it all be destroyed by the farmers. Instead of relocating, she travels all over
to find a way to solve her problem, which, in the end, is accomplished. In comparison to the
impact Mrs. Frisby s home has on her life, the rats of NIMH don t really have a set home. They are
not dependent on one certain place, which is why they come up with a plan to re locate when
they find out the rosebush is going to be torn down. To them, home is wherever they can live
independently or create a place for themselves. At this stage in their life, they are more focused on
trying to be independent enough so they don t have to depend on anyone for anything. They are
highly trained to live and work in any condition. Unlike Mrs. Frisby, they are willing to

Glenn Ford Trial
No Get Out Of Jail Free Cards: Trends and Tolls of Wrongful Convictions
In March 2014, an inmate from Louisiana was released after serving thirty years on death row.
Convicted of a 1984 robbery murder, Mr. Glenn Ford was exonerated from his charges after a
Louisiana Supreme Court review of his case found evidence proving his innocence. Left with
nothing more than a $20 gift certificate, Glenn Ford departed from Angola State Penitentiary with
neither direction nor purpose. Grim realities hit him as he swallowed in the fresh, cool air: he
had lung cancer, no savings, and was free from the confines of his 5x7 prison cell. A year after his
exculpation, he succumbed to his illness and passed away. His family hasn t seen a dime of the

In Glenn Ford s case, his state provided lawyers had never even stepped foot in the courtroom
before...they never tried a case and [were] defending a capital case. One specialized in oil and gas
law and the other had never appeared before a jury, making the pair woefully ill equipped for the
most momentous occasion in the defendant s life. Playing off of Mr. Ford s fears and cowering
behind the gravitas of the prosecution, they urged Mr. Ford to plead guilty in exchange for a
lesser sentence. Little did Ford know that the outcome would be dire, unwittingly driving the
final nail in his own coffin. Obviously, plea bargaining brings about many advantages. In most
cases, it minimizes the risk of longer sentences if the prosecution uncovers more damning
evidence, as well as shortens trial lengths. This works particularly well for those that already
know of their guilt, who can choose the lesser of two evils the devil they know. Drawing fewer
trials, bargaining supposedly carries the added benefit of minimizing backlogs and enabling more
cases to be heard in a given period of time. Yet, many of the troubles of plea bargaining go
overlooked. Though some may be genuinely innocent, defendants often plead guilty to more lenient
sentences rather than risk the possibility of harsher penalties from a trial s decision made especially
more tempting if they have a poor defense team. Furthermore, plead bargaining essentially skates
around rigorous methods of truth seeking; thoroughness and impartiality play second fiddle to
backdoor wheeling and dealing, making things more a matter of what s convenient to the parties
involved than finding

Relationship Between Communication And Errors
Solution Description The relationship between communication and errors has been well
established in the healthcare setting, affecting patient safety and placing the organization in a
position of risk (Friesen, Hughes and Zorn, 2007; Wasserman, 2014, Sears et al, 2013). Errors
still occur, however, and there is a focus on how healthcare can learn from the behaviors of high
reliability industries (Verschoor et al, 2007). One such behavior is that of a Safety Briefing
(DSB), through which an organization empowers every employee to be able to report issues
that have an effect, or potential effect on safety processes (Kelly, 2013; Rice, 2013; Steelman,
2014). The members of the DSB then have the responsibility for identification of poor processes,
system failures and remediation of issues. Safety issues arise in this organization on a daily basis
and are reported through an interdisciplinary online tool. Each occurrence report is written by a
staff member and routed to the department supervisor. This supervisor forwards the report to any
other relevant departments for their review. So, for example, if a patient is admitted to the
intensive care unit (ICU) from the operating room (OR) with a pressure ulcer, the event is written
up by the ICU staff and routed to the ICU supervisor, who then forwards to the ICU manager, the
OR manager, the surgeon and the anesthesiologist. Each staffed area has an identified responsible
person to follow up on any issue that may affect the patients

It s called a pocket shark not because it can fit in your pocket, but because this rare species (known
by the scientific community as Mollisquama) come equipped with two pockets next to its front
fins. Information about this rare shark find was recently published in Zootaxa, and researchers at
the Biodiversity Institute at Tulane University worked with representatives from NOAA to

The pocket shark we found was only 5 and a half inches long, and male, said Mark Grace of

location of its parents. The other pocket shark was found 36 years ago off the coast of Peru,
while this infant was found in Gulf of Mexico. This leaves a lot of unanswered questions for
researchers like Grace, who have little information on the range Mollisquama occupy, or where they

The species that survived the dinosaur extinction are believed to be what life on this planet is
descended from. Aligators, crocodiles, lizards and snakes are among the reptiles that survived what

mass extinctionother than lizards. Frogs and salamanders are among the few small amphibians that

50% of the world s population were thought to have died out in the course of this event. Many
species became extinct, some of these were marine reptiles, big amphibians, some reef building

Rocks In Through The Tunnel By Doris Lessing
Rocks are universally accepted as symbols of strength and stability, but a small percentile of
people would disagree. Doris Lessing would fit into the few, as the motif of rocks in her short
story, Through the Tunnel , are associated with society inflicting modifications and instability
upon individuals. The main character Jerry s initial goal is to travel through a tunnel in order to
fit in with the older and cooler kids. During his journey, he encounters or utilises rocks in three
different instances, which each represents a way how an individual is impacted by the pressure of
others. He uses rocks to weigh himself down during training, finds rocks scattered across the white

In the case of Doris Lessing, she used the negative symbolism surrounding the three instances
where Jerry encounters a rock and compares it to three distinctive processes in which society can
be harmful to an individual. To communicate her message, the event in which Jerry uses a rock to
sink himself down, the instance in which Jerry views the ocean floor scattered with rocks, and the
incident in which he brushes against sharp rocks in the tunnel are all negative symbols of society
altering an individual. Doris Lessing wants her readers to fight through peer pressure and in the

A Report On The Industrial Energy Audit Essay
1. Methodology
The industrial energy audit may be divided into three main parts: the survey, the analysis and the
proposed measures. The expected result of the energy audit is a number of measures that will
increase the energy efficiency, switch from non renewable to renewable sources and decrease the
energy use of the company. The result is normally presented in a report. In the three parts of the
audit we have different tasks:
Energy survey What do we have?
Define the system boundary.
Identify unit processes.
Quantify energy supply.
Allocate energy use to different unit processes. Energy analysis How bad is the utilization of the
supplied energy? Where does it go wrong? How far can we reach?
Identify both system errors and detail problems.
Identify idling power and energy.
Identify technologies that are far from BAT (Best Available Technology).
Identify mismatching energy quality, where high quality energy is used for non demanding
purposes, for example, electricity for low temperature heating.
Identifying barriers and driving forces.
Sum up the potential for energy efficiency and conversion for the system as a whole.
Suggested measures What can we do about it? Identify possible solutions.
Calculate the impact of the solutions and analyze them. Calculate the economic impact.
Top down approach and iterative method
the energy audit is basically a project with the aim to suggest energy efficiency and conversion

Perestroika And Glasnost
How Perestroika/Glasnost Helped the Dissolution of the Soviet Union
Perestroika and glasnost played an important part in shaping today s Russia by its role in the
dissolution of the U.S.S.R. Perestroika was the reconstruction of the Communist party and the
economy, which Mikhail Gorbachev thought would fix the economic mess he came into. Perestroika
also loosened government control over individual enterprises and businesses. Gorbachev also
introduced glasnost which released government information and allowed more people to openly
give their opinion about the Soviet government. In the book Russia s Sputnik Generations by

Pros And Cons Of Legalization Of Drugs
The discussion on the legalization of drugs in America has had two opposing sides. One of the
groups which yes gives the pros and cons of the benefits of legalizing drugs, whereas the other
stands on their ground by listing the negative effects and outcomes from such activities. The
proponents of American liberalization use the example of Dutch, whether they got it right with
their slogan of campaigning on the issues. The negative impacts which have arisen from the
legalization of drugs in Holland has not only affected Dutch as a nation, but has also spread even
to the other nations (Bergen NP). For instance, France and Britain have claimed that 80 % of the
cocaine and heroin seized in their nations have come directly from Holland, where the dealers face
no risk of being arrested nor prosecuted.
Legalizing drugs is directly accrued to having a desired end, that is, putting the criminal justice
system out of business and trying to unsuccessfully control the health lives of the addicts. Drug
abuse has been an area where the custody is placed on the people with the drugs and the peddlers.
The U.S. public health system has been on stake in trying to deal with the fight on drugs to the
abusers. The most critical bit about the whole issue is that drug addiction for every user of heroin
leads to a lifetime affliction as well as a disease. This is impervious to the threat of punishment of
the justice system. In case nothing else changed during the previous reigns of the various

The Characters Of Coraline And Harry Potter
Literary heroes that are also ordinary children are engaging to readers, particularly child readers.
James Pope and Julia Round write that Roald Dahl is a fascinating author in that his books for
children feature child heroes who are very often neither hero nor villain, but a wild, subversive
combination of both (258). These characteristics are also true of Coraline and Harry Potter, as they
are presented as imperfect, but ultimately find the power within themselves to save what is
important to them. Children readers are empowered by Coraline and Harry because they
identify with these ordinary children and feel as if they can also make a difference in their
lives, as the characters defeat the evil in theirs. Children are more likely to engage with
characters they identify with, but when a character is also a hero, children feel as if they
themselves have the power to take agency in their own lives. Coraline is a representation of any
child that is easily bored and seeks adventure, but she also displays bravery and heroism. Coraline s
greatest strength is her imagination, which she uses to her advantage. Most children have active
imaginations as she does, and this quality that they have in common will result in children
identifying with Coraline and believing they are just as capable of surmounting obstacles as she is.
Coraline is also not perfect, and although many children like to pretend they are perfect, they know
they are not. When she loses the marble containing

The Effects Of Helicopter Parenting On Young Adults Who...
Helicopter parenting is the over use or excessive use of parental guidance thought to generate a
slower progression of emotional maturity and physical wellbeing in young adults. The methods
used in this review include examining previous literature and current studies on this issue of
helicopter parenting. The purpose of this review is to establish the measure of autonomy and
mental wellbeing in young adults who are entering college for the first time.
This literary review looks at the long term effects of helicopter parenting. While parental
involvement is clearly linked to positive traits in children, can over parenting produce negative
outcomes? Issues that have been related to helicopter parenting include a lack of autonomy and
satisfaction with life, increased stress, anxiety and depression and overall poor coping skills
(Schiffrin et al., 2013). Perhaps if a link between the issues listed above and helicopter parenting
can be proven, then a way to correct or reverse the issue can also be identified.
The current research and studies on the effects of helicopter parenting are being pioneered by Chris
Segrin of Arizona State University. In one article titled Maternal Care and Control as Mediators in
the Relationship between Mothers and Adult Children s Psychosocial Problems, Segrin and his
colleagues investigate the relationship between mothers and adult children s psychosocial
problems. This article looked at the direct measure of depression, loneliness and

The Cold Blood By Truman Capote
In Cold Blood
Do you think that every crime has to be breathtaking to attract readers` attention? Not at all. In
Cold Blood is a non fiction novel of 1967 by Truman Capote, where a life story of the Clutter
family is told. Exactly this story of crime can make you a philosopher while reading, you will
definitely think over the tragedy and the meaning of life. The Clutters met a lot of difficulties on
their way to find happiness, but were murdered because of no reason. The police was baffled, as
there were no evidences or even suspect, so when they found Bobby Rupp, he automatically
became suspected until he did not pass the polygraph test. The officers are disappointed, as no
connections between the murdered family and strange individuals, who could be involved in
committing a crime, were found. Finally, one of the prisoners confessed and took his friends to the
authorities. Men committed the crime following no purpose, so when they were caught, their
behavior seemed to be the behavior of frightened sheep: they did not know what to do and how to
manage the situation. However, I was disappointed in the reading as it was too long, did not answer
all the questions, and is hard to understand.
The author made the novel too long and filled it with much information that I find unneeded. The
author spent some years gathering information about committing crimes and looking for suitable
background for a story. Truman Capotedid a real research to be prepared to write about this

Dear Professor Csikszentmihalyi,
This letter is talking about what I learned from your book, my flow experiences and what are
elements of flow in my opinion. But before that I would like to share a old Chinese fairy tale
with you. 1800 years ago in Jin dynasty of China, there was a farmer who s name is Wangzhi.
One day he went out to cut firewood in hills, he saw there are an old man and a child playing the
GO (a Chinese game) in pavilion. So he left his axe on a stump and watched them playing. He
was so focus on the game that he totally forgot the time. After a long time, the child told him that
as it is so late you had better go home. Then Wangzhi pick up his axe and start to go home. He
was so surprised that his axe handle was rotted and mold. When he backed home his neighbor
told him he had already went out more than 10 years. Of cause fairy tales are not always true
story and also may sound like an exaggeration. But in this fairy tale we can know that Chinese
people realize that people have flow experience hundreds years ago.
In this semester we have been discussing about Optimal Experience and what is Flow and how to
achieve it in class. I learned that you named the psychological concept of flow, a highly focused
mental state. In your seminal work, Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience, you outline
your theory that people are happiest when they are in a state of flow a state of concentration or

Explain Why The Royal Air Force Saved Britain
The Royal Air Force saved Britain from the Nazi regime. In the beginning of the summer of
1940, war broke out over the United Kingdom between the German Luftwaffe and the British
Royal Air Force. The fighting started because of the fall of France to the Nazi s. The Nazi s
looked to Britain as their next territory they wanted to occupy. Germany had a plan that they

Difference Between English Civil Law And Common Law
English Common Law
English Common Law and Civil Law are very much a different way that countries apply the law.
One of the main differences being that the Common law is largely based on precedent which
means that that the decision that a judge needs to make was most likely already made in the similar
case. Because Common law uses case law as their reference for future cases, judges have a huge
role in making the Common Law to what it is today and what it will be like in the future.
Precedents are kept up to date through the years and are historically documented in collections of

precedent set by earlier case.
To show how distinguishing works there are two cases that are commonly used. These common
cases are Merritt v Merritt (1970) and Balfour v Balfour (1919) . In both of the cases, the
defendant is the husband and the prosecutor is the wife and both claims are for a breach of contract.
In Balfour v Balfour the husband went away from the country to, but the wife was not able to go

When the relationship ended so did the payments from the husband. The wife went to court to get
the contract enforced in court, but he claims failed because it was decided that there was no
intention to create legal relations. The agreement was looked as a domestic arrangement made
between husband and wife and not a legal one.
In Merritt v Merritt the court was able to distinguish that there was a defence in the marital status
of the people compared to the Balfour v Balfour case. It was aggreged that the husband would
give money to the wife for her to pay the mortgage and when it fully paid off the house would be
changed to only have the wife s name and no longer joint ownership. The claim succeeded, even

Environmental Impacts Of Marine Biodiversity Essay
The state of Florida is known for its beautiful waters and diverse marine ecosystems. Millions of
people visit the state each year to vacation and enjoy Florida s many tourist attractions. One of
Florida largest attractions is its fishing. People come from all over the world to experience Florida
s exciting and productive fisheries. Florida is even called the fishingcapital of the world. The state
not only has the largest number of recreational fisherman in the country it also has the second
largest commercial fishing industry. Commercial fishing in Florida has deep historical roots dating
all the way back to the 1800s. In some parts of Florida whole towns and economies are centered
around the commercial fishing industry. This has led to depleted populations of several fishspecies
in many of these areas. The commercial extraction of large numbers of individuals from targeted
marine populations and the inadvertent by catch and habitat damage that results from that
extraction have been identified as among the most critical factors currently affecting marine
biodiversity ( Brailovskaya 1236) Due to its environmental impacts, there should be more regulation
on commercial fishing including stricter size limits, and bag limits on fish. Implementation of
bycatch reduction technologies should be required of all commercial fisherman and no fishing
zones should be established.
State regulations and limits of different species have become very controversial and many people

Classical Vs. Classical Conditioning
Classical Conditioning
In this paper, Classical Conditioning is explored by first giving a general definition along with the
general phases of basic classical conditioning. Then, more insight is given about the developers of
this learning process and their experiments: Ivan Pavlov and his dog experiment and John B. Watson
and Little Albert experiment. Finally, real world applications of this learning process are
introduced such as how to treat phobias, addictions and achieve good classroom behavior.

Watson published the article Psychology as the Behaviorist Views It. The article focused on how

importantly, he rejected the notion psychology should be based on the study of consciousness. He
would go on to write a book on the subject Behaviorism. Watson received a great award from the
American Psychological Association for his work in the field and passed away on September 25,
1958. In 1889, Pavlov began experiments first focusing on digestion investigating the digestive
process between the salivation and the reactions of the stomach but eventually led to classical
conditioning. He repeatedly rang a bell, a neutral stimulus that did not cause a response, and then
gave the dogs with meat powder, which caused the response of salivation without any learning.
Eventually, the dogs began to respond (salivate) at the sound of the bell. In other words, the dogs
had learned to predict that the sound of the bell would be followed by presentation of the meat
powder. This proved their reflexes could be conditioned by external stimuli. Specifically, after they
were conditioned by the ringing of a bell at feeding time, they would reflexively salivate upon
hearing the bell, whether or not food was present

Another hypothesis is that these associations can accidentally exist together.20 Among these
hypothesis, the hemodynamic stress secondary to the increased blood flow of AVM plays a
significant role to provoke this coexistence of lesion.1,21 This hypothesis is supported by a report
showing that the associated aneurysms tend to be concentrated in feeding arteries which supply
AVM and the associated aneurysms may shrink in proportion to the occlusion of the AVM. 3
The incidence of intracranial aneurysms is higher in patients with intracranial AVM than in the

Canada s Universal System Of Public Health Insurance
Wayne Thidodeau, of the Guardian press, reported that a 29 year old woman, nine weeks pregnant
lost her baby at County Hospital in Summerside after waiting more than three hours in the
emergency room (the Guardian reports 2010). The article further states that Christine Handrahan
was rushed to the hospital because of her excessive bleeding. After more than three hours of
extensive wait and lack of attention Christine Handrahan lost her first baby. Since 1937 universal
health care has being accorded to legal residents of Canada. This universal health care system
founded by Tommy Douglas with the aid of some organizations such as Canada health act.

History Tommy Douglas also known as the father of Medicare introduced the existence of
universal health care in 1947. This care is set out to help improve health and standard of living
making the government responsible for setting rules for Canada health act. Along side with other
organization such as Canada Health Act, universal health still exists in Canada till date. Mary
Wiktorowicz stated there were oppositions such as Canadian Medical Association, tried to block
the medical care act I 1957.(Raphael,Bryant,Rioux, 2006 p. 247). Despite the fact that universal
health care system is meant to make things better, the long waits, low budget and shortage of
health workers are all the same topics that trigger interests in the face of health maintenance.
Issues Despite the accessibility Canadians have to universal health, there are many causes of long
waits, shortage of health workers and low budget. Wait time has increased because of the lack of
follow up; the government owns the health care services so less supervision is assigned to
services. According to Cbc report Canadians wait longer in hospital emergency departments than
people in other countries with publicly funded health care systems (Cbc 2014). In relation to long
wait times, shortage of health workers is another big issue Canadians face.

Introduction
Fitness and muscle model athletes are often benchmarked as the embodiment of physical
perfection (Sundgot Borgen et al., 2011). That being said, not all athletes have, or believe that
they have, bodies adapted to the paradigm of their specific sport (Sundgot Borgen et al., 2011).
These athletes may often experience pressure to achieve this absolute ideal body type. Athletes
competing in aesthetic sports such as gymnasts, figure skaters, divers, bodybuilders experience
greater pressure to reduce weight than athletes competing in sports in which lean body mass
aesthetic are less important (Drinkwater et al., 2005). Within this class of athletes judged on
aestheticism, fitness and muscle models are a class whom are noted for dieting down to
extremely low level of body fat to display muscle. There appears to be a rise in competitive fitness
and muscle model shows and the goal to emulate if not a sporting aesthetic which will appeal
domestically and commercially. (Scott et al., 2013).
As a result of growing interest in this field of sport, there are few federations/organizations that are
currently operating

Gandalf the Mischiefmonger Essay
If people tried to make an argument that J.R.R. Tolkien didn t used Norse mythology as a
backbone structure when writing The Hobbit in 1937, they would be without a doubt completely
wrong. Many creatures were pulled straight from the Norse myths and thrown into his famous
story, but did he use some of the Norse gods as structures for his characters as well? In the book
The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien, he states that Gandalf is seen almost as an Odinic Wanderer ,
comparing him to Odinthe Allfather (Carpenter, C. Tolkien, J.R.R. Tolkien). Rather than Odin,
though, another almost unlikely god could fit the part of Gandalf s basis, and that would be the
trickster god, Loki, son of Laufey and Farbauti. Loki, without a doubt, would be an... Show more

They demand that he uses his not so noble tricks to return the goddess, along with her cherished
apples. Gandalf is not an outright liar, though he does slightly bend the truth throughout the story.
He is the reason that Bilbo is referred to as the burglar, as he puts the sign on the Hobbit s door
himself. Gandalf told the throng If I say he is a burglar, a burglar he is, or will be... (Tolkien 49).
His intentions for lying are more beneficial than Loki s reasons, though he is still manipulating
the idea of Bilbo being a burglar, convincing Thorin and Co. that Bilbo has experience with
thieving. Before they take off for their long journey, Thorin says to Bilbo, Aren t you the
burglar? And isn t sitting on the doorstep your job, not speak of getting inside the door? His
words show that he has some form of faith in Gandalf s white lie about the hobbit being a thief,
even though Bilbo had never stolen anything in his life. Both Gandalf and Loki are gifted with
magical abilities, and they rely their magic as well as their wit to solve their problems. In the
myth The Building of Asgard s Wall , the builder (or rock giant), offered to build a wall around
Asgard and for his payment, he wanted Freyja s hand in marriage, along with both the sun and the
moon. Odin turned to Loki for a plan, and he suggested to give the builder six months rather than
the eighteen months that he originally demanded. The builder agreed to the terms, with one
condition his steed is allowed to

White Privilege Vs White Privilege
White privilege and black privilege
As I start to type this paper I really don t know how to start. It took me the day before my first
draft is due to start writing. Not because I was lazy and waited last minute, but because this is
such a touchy subject to speak on.(6) I was sitting there at the kitchen table with my mom asking
her what I should and shouldn t say. She told me, Danielle you don t need to worry about what
you should or shouldn t say. You need to be real about white privilege and just address it. If
people don t know that being white STILL is a privilege in 2017, then honey they re not living
in the real world. What is white privilege? It s the level of societal advantage that comes with
being seen as the norm in America, automatically conferred irrespective of wealth, gender or
other factors. It makes life smoother, but it s something you would barely notice unless it were
suddenly taken away or unless it had never applied to you in the first place. (Emba.) White
privilege is the norm to a lot of my fellow peers have and don t even realize it. An example would
be that it s not likely that store security or law enforcement officers harass them, pull them over or
follow them because of the color of their skin tone.
A mythical concept, black people do not have black privilege. Literally the only things black people
can do that white people can t are: say the n word, benefit from affirmative action (but trump is in
the process of removing that).

Personal Philosophy Of Leadership
Leaders strive for the best in their organization and work hard to become successful. My
leadership philosophy may be different from others, however, it may be effective as others.
Leadership can be learned and practiced. I consider if you practice with ethics in mind then there
will be no issues with your followers or organization. Leaders that practice unethically are often
viewed in a negative perspective and often ruin their careers. Great leaders are hard workers and
assist in improving the organization. Some are natural leaders, however, it has been stated leaders
are made.

random individuals. Intuition focuses on the future and the possibilities. I see myself
constantly thinking of the possibilities of what is possible when I receive my degree, in hopes
of becoming successful. Thinking involves logic and analyzing, and I often have make sure I

Australian Court System Research Paper
Is our NSW court system effective? It is if you have money. Is it something that we can just
adhere to with out ever allowing it to adapt and evolve to meet societies needs? Absolutely not.
Just like humanity, the NSW court system contains protruding faults that are made apparent with
further scrutiny. The court system is something that requires our constant attention and support
to improve and advance. In order for the court system to attain eligibility it relies heavily on 4
fundamental components; affordability, simplicity, fairness and accessibility. For countless
Australians our legal system is lacking on all these fronts. Based on the 2012 survey conducted
by the New South Whales Law and Justice Foundation, it showed that around 1.7 million
Australians can expect to encounter a legal problem each year and 490,000 of those people will
not receive legal advice due to financial reasons or lack of knowledge. The prices for legal
services have increase by 49% in the last 6 years alone. This dramatic inflation of costs within the
justice system leads to increased difficulty within society to be able to afford anything but the most
basic of legal representation. When people who can t afford a lawyer turn to government funded
legal assistance, they find that due to chronic funding shortages, ongoing help is often restricted to
those on only the lowest incomes and even further, is only for a narrow collection of family and
criminal legal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, under further analysis, it becomes apparent that the verdict acts more as a deterrent
rather than an upstanding legal configuration. The legal system, for the average person in New
South Wales, is only a figure of authority that deters the individuals from breaking the law, which
some may say is what it is there to do. Conversely, we need it to do more than that, we need it to
properly meet our requests when we are involved in legal

Monty Python And The Holy Grail Satire
In Monty Python and the Holy Grail satire is used quite often to make fun of the Catholic faith. One
of the most noteworthy moments is near the beginning of the movie when the monks are walking
through the town chanting. Monty Python may use rather ludicrous humor to get their point
across; however, they do a good job conveying the faults in the Catholic Churchand display them on
film. The movie does this through setting, characters costumes, and music. Near the beginning
of the movie there is a group of monks seen walking through an impoverished town. Unlike what
one would expect from people of God, the monks do not stop to help anyone or even look at
them. When there are people lying on the ground half dead, most people would think that the
monks would be there to heal and give food to the poor and dying; however, they are seen
passing by with their neat robes on. This represents the complete lack of caring that the upper
class religious leaders show for the common person. In the middle ages, the church had complete
power over the peasants. They had the peasants farm land for them and even pay taxes. The church
influenced peasants to pay tithes, otherwise known as taxes, by threatening them. The church
convinced the peasants that if they did not pay taxes then their souls would go to Hell in the
afterlife. The poor had to pay ten percent of their earnings to the vastly rich church every year. All
of the peasants are too scared to stand against the church

Comparing Marriage In Marie De France s Sir Gawain And The...
The medieval literary genre of romance deals, according to Cooper, with the subject matter
concerning love or chivalry, or both. (10) In Romances love and marriage, two matters often
associated with each other, are treated as two entirely separate things. In Eliduc by Marie de
France and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, marriageis not done out of love, and keeping chivalric
codes and promises is paramount, even if it complicates extramarital affairs. In Marie de France s
lai Eliduc the titular character refrains from sleeping with his paramour because of his binding
contract with his wife. The marriage between Eliduc and GuildelГјec is treated like a contract rather
than a romantic relationship, but Eliduc, being an honourable knight, has to adhere to chivalric
codes and keeps his promise to stay loyal to GuildelГјec. Eliduc repeatedly doubts whether his
affair with Guilliadon is morally sound because of the implications it will have on his marriage.
An example of this occurs between lines 300 and 326. Eliduc realises that he has fallen in love
with the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The setting of these scenes, the bed, has, according to Hahn, nothing to do with heterosexual
passion, but rather with the marriage contract between a woman and husband (224). Because
Gawain and the host s wife are not married, this setting is peculiar. However in the sixth verse of
part three of the poem the lady claims that if she could choose, she would rather be married to
Gawain than to her own husband. It is clear that from the host s wife s perspective, marriage and
love are two separate affairs. By repeatedly attempting to seduce Gawain, the lady challenges his
virtues, especially his courtesy and his chivalry. When Gawain refuses to kiss her, she accuses him
from being uncourteous. However by kissing her, Gawain is breaking his chivalric code and his
loyalty to his

America And Gender Neutral Bathrooms Essay
America and Gender Neutral Bathrooms
There is a long history of social groups being repressed within the United States of America. With
an ever changing culture and a strong force against certain changes, certain ethnic and social
groups appear to be neglected by the lawmakers of America. One of the more recent occurrences
of this has been the LBGT community. Up until 2014, marriage was not even legal between a
same sex couple. After gay marriage was ruled legal, a landslide of other reforms were brought to
attention. One of the more controversial topics being discussed today is the rights of the LBGT
community in accordance to public bathrooms. They argue that anyone should be able to use
whichever bathroom that matches with their identified gender. The definition of gender and the
rights that accompany them is constantly being updated and adjusted. Because of this sudden
movement, social issues are sparking outrage and debate on whether this argument should be
implemented into society. This issue has dominated the media and has caused chaos on both sides
of the spectrum. Members of the LBGT community should not be able to use whatever bathroom
they please. The U.S. federal government is backing the issue of gender neutral bathrooms. As Lisa
Rein, publisher of an article in The Washington Post, writes, The federal government is strongly
urging employers to give transgender employees access to bathrooms that correspond to their gender
identity, marking a new policy front

The Suicide Of A Patient Essay
The suicide of a patient suffering from an incurable disease, effected by the taking of lethal drugs
provided by a doctor for this purpose, is the dictionary definition of assisted suicide, or assisted
death. Much debate has taken place over whether or not this should be a right of the terminally ill,
and whether a doctor can grant that wish. Although modern medicine has brought a multitude of
benefits to humanity, it cannot relieve the pain and suffering associated with the dying process.
Kate Pickert, for TIME Magazine, notes that when people hear the term euthanasia they think of the
battle in the 1990 s, featuring Jack Doctor Death Kevorkian. Slowly, countries, or at least individual
states, have chosen to declare assisted suicide as legal or illegal based on a variety of reasons but
religion being the most prominent reason. The idea of assisted suicide is considered illegal in
considering the Biblical Commandment, which states Thou Shalt Not Kill. Despite this, some
christian societies are considering the idea. Australia legalized it in 1995 but unusually, recanted
that law in 1997. Also in 1997, the United States declared that assisted suicide was not a
constitutional right but years later in 2006, the Supreme Court decided that such severe cases
should be up to the individual states. This ruling contributes to Oregon s Death With Dignity law,
which was actually in place since 1997 but in 2007, some 46 people committed suicide in Oregon
under the law (

  • 2. The Obstacle Of Organizing Government The obstacle of organizing government around the environment is that, for the most part, society is too focused on economic growth for the environment to take a precedent. And, as Leopold notes, land...is still property (Leopold 218). The environment, or for Leopold the land, is not a global citizen in it of itself. Rather, the land is merely a tool for the continued economic growth. Since land has limited legal rights, Leopold sees that humans see no harm in exploiting the environment for capital gain. As such, granting the environment legal protection would, as Leopold saw it, be a better means of conservation efforts. Leopold described a system of ethics that, when applied appropriately, apply to both man and land. Despite defining an ethic as both a limitation on freedom off action in the struggle for existence and a differentiation of social from anti social conduct, Leopold saw little difference between an ethological the former and the philosophical the latter definitions of an ethic (Leopold 217 218). Both definitions create a sense of cooperation between individuals. However, the issue for the human land relation is that, currently, ethics is not being applied. The land relation is still strictly economic, entailing privileges but not obligations (Leopold 218). As Leopold saw it, mankind understands the need for the natural world, so there exists a limited sense of respect. However, unlike the ethics shared between human beings, the rights of land are not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. An Analysis Of Richard J. Webbs And Wendy Chapkins The main objective of Dying to Get High, a book written by Richard J. Webbs and Wendy Chapkins, is to spread awareness of the benefits of medical marijuana. A major topic of this book is WAMM, Wo/Men s alliance for Medical Marijuana, which is a group that encourages the use of medical marijuana for ill patients who are eligible. They primarily argue that these patients could benefit from the therapeutic effects of medical marijuana, yet it is considered illegal according to the law. Throughout this book, several stories are told by patients themselves, court cases are depicted, and battles are fought for the legalization of medical marijuana. The main discussion of Dying to Get High is the use and legalization of medical marijuana, a highly debated topic. Chapter one discusses how in early times, marijuana was a common medicinethat treated many medical conditions. Through the years, it began to be seen as a dangerous substance to due to social issues such as the association with other racial groups that created this moral panic. Therefore, marijuana is classified as a Schedule 1 controlled substance, though there were many studies that proved that this substance as minimal effects. Chapter two shows how in an attempt to spread awareness of the medical uses of marijuana, WAMM, Wo/Men s alliance for Medical Marijuana, was created. This is a nonprofit group that grew cannabisand gave it to their members for free in return for donations or volunteer work from those members. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The City Of Saint Paul Called Washington Technology Magnet... Over a millennium, women and men sports have never been viewed the same. When sports were first originated it was only meant for men to compete. During this time, women were forbidden to compete. Woman were always underestimated or never taken for serious. Even to this day women sports are still being seen the same way, especially in high schoolsports. One school in particular that will be focused on in this paper is in the city of Saint Paul called Washington Technology Magnet School. This school is a victim just like many other schools out there that women s sports are not getting enough fundings compared to the men s programs they have because woman sports are being considered inferior. One way to solve this problem, in this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With these numbers of schools that participate a lot of woman sports teams are not getting the equal treatment they deserve. In 1972 the Congress passed an Educational Amendment stating that all federally funded schools should not discriminate anybody by gender from playing sports. (History of Title IX. 2011, September 13). The title 9 was made to give equality to all participants who are playing for a school. Mainly for girls who were discriminated from playing sports. U.S Secretary of Education, Rod Paige said Without a doubt, Title IX has opened the doors of opportunity for generations of women and girls to compete, to achieve, and to pursue their American Dreams. This Administration is committed to building on those successes. (United States. Department of Education; United States. Secretary of Education s Commission on Opportunity in Athletics, 2003, 2) Even though this law has been passed and has ensure equality to a lot of woman out there, there is still a handful of high schools that break this law. Torrey Pines High School had a women s basketball team that went undefeated in the year of 2013. But it still showed that the boys games had more fundings than the girls team. The bleachers would be close to full every game, even though the boys team at this high school didn t have a great season like the women s team for this school. According to this ... • 5. The Reality Of The Beholder From The Ancient Dialogues... What is Reality? I plan on discussing each section of this essay; however, they do coincide with each other in the topic. I will try to explain my reasoning on how they would question relates to one another. First, what is the difference between appearance and reality? What is the reality of being in a new place, instead of being in a society of other people around you? Does one person think they can another s perceptionof their world? Does everything lead to good, and what is good in the eye of the beholder from the ancient dialogues from Plato and Socrates? Lets starts from the beginning, by distinguishing the difference between reality and appearances. Is it something that is done by everyone on a daily basis? Whether it is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another way of thinking of reality and appearance is the theory of idealism. Idealism is only things that really exist are our minds and their ideas. An Irish Bishop named George Berkeley view of idealism is ...though it were possible that solid, figured, moveable substances may exist without the mind... yet how [could we] know this? Either we must know it by sense or by reason. (Rachels Rachels, 2012, p. 128). Berkeley also goes to mention that our senses comes our knowledge of sensations and ideas that come from the mind, and our reason is for us to believe in the existence of physical objects that is a necessary connection between the physical world and our ideas. Another approach is direct versus indirect realism, which deals with the perception of our reality or mental state. Direct idealism deals with common sense and with the facts of things; however, indirect idealism is the opposite of which it holds the idea of perception of something with our idea of an object that we are aware of. Now, how is reflecting with Plato s story of the Allegory of the Cave, and reality and appearance the same? In the story of the Allegory of the Cave, goes with the following understanding of the Cave. The cave is a world where prisoners live chained to the ground, and the captors cast shadows on the wall and these shadows construct reality for the prisoners. One of the prisoners is freed by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Race and Affirmative Action Essay Race and Affirmative Action Race is an issue that is embedded in the nation s history and continues to spur discussions on how the different minorities and ethnic groups must be treated fairly. Affirmative action is a recent attempt to solve the discriminations produced by racial inequality. However, affirmative actionis also being scrutinized as scholars and the public debate the benefits and harms of affirmative action. A Historical View Throughout the past 30 years, affirmative action has been the answer to racial inequality. The policy began in 1965 under President Johnson. It was used to redress issues of discrimination, following the civil rights laws and constitutional guarantees on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, by the late 1970s flaws surfaced in the affirmative action policy. Reverse discrimination became an issue, epitomized by the Bakke case of 1978. A medical school that had accepted less qualified minority applicants had rejected Allan Bakke, a white male, two consecutive years. The school had a separate admissions policy for minorities. It reserved 16 out of 100 places for minority students. The Supreme Court voted that it was unconstitutional to set inflexible quota systems in affirmative action programs. The medical school had discriminated against a white applicant. In the same ruling, however, the Court upheld the legality of affirmative action in forms other than quota systems. In 1979 the Supreme Court reflected the Bakke decision. The Supreme Court ruled in AFO CIO v. Weber, 444 U.S. 889 that race conscious affirmative action efforts designed to eliminate a conspicuous racial imbalance in an employer s workforce resulting from past discrimination was permissible, as long as the actions were temporary and did not violate the rights of white employees. College admission imbalances have resurfaced as a problem for affirmative action. Recently, the Smith v. University of Washington case upheld the university s affirmative action program, although the program could no longer be used after the passage of Initiative 200 in 1998. Initiative 200 is a controversial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. How Enzymes Affect Our Body Enzymes are biologically active proteins that serve as catalysts; they have the ability to speed up chemical reactions. Without a catalyst many biochemical reactions will be carried out too slowly for the body to benefit. All sorts of enzymes occur naturally in our bodies, some help digest food. An enzymesuch as amylase is present in saliva which breaks down starch into smaller maltose molecules. Without an enzyme holding the large molecule in position, this reaction will be extremely slow. Every reaction requires certain amount of energy to form. Enzymes lower the activation energy (amount energy required to be put into the reaction to begin). It does this by applying pressure to bonds that require s the molecule to break, or bring the molecules closer to bond. The molecules or chemicals the enzymes work on are called substrates, substrates then bind to the enzyme active site, once they bond to the active site, the enzyme will change shape to fit the substrate, and this is known as the induced fit model. All enzymes are specific to particular molecules or chemicals and are usually named after their substrate ase . For example lactase is an enzyme that breaks down lactose. Allosteric enzymes differ from non allosteric enzymes. Allosteric enzymes at least have more than one binding site, where as regular enzymes have one or more site that they can bind to. Unlike allosteric enzymes, if a non allosteric enzyme binds to an enzymes active site this does not increase or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He admitted he felt guilty about taking one injection of steroids so he discontinued taking them, as for his brothers he interviewed both of them getting their point of view on anabolic steroids and their constant use of drug. He said Son you are going up against some of the best powerlifters in the state and I personally think you will not be ready, so I want to give you this for help. He handed me a box and in it contained syringes and anabolic steroids so I can inject myself. Personally I thought that was a terrible idea to have to train all day and night so I will be ready to compete then have my coach tell me to cheat, I declined my coaches offer. • 10. The Wine And Beer Making Process Essay If you ve read my About page then you know this blog is about delving into the wine and beer making process. If you haven t then I invite to learn more about me and my blog. But before we delve into the technicalities of making wine I wanted to share some interesting facts I have learned about red wine. There are numerous varieties of red winebut there are only four popular types: Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Merlot. Cabernet Sauvignon The Cabernet Sauvignon grape is a small thick skinned, blue purple grape with lots of seeds in proportion to its size(A 150). There are two main reasons that Cabernet Sauvignon continues to thrill our palates and table. The first is its ability to adapt to the soil and climate. The second is its ability to resist plant viruses and diseases (B 38). Two significant sites for Cabernet Sauvignon are Bordeaux, France and Napa Valley, California (A 152). In France, the ancient gravel of Bordeaux holds heat, which allows the vines to stay warm while at the same time preventing the vine from truly thriving. It is the barely surviving that makes the flavor, so intense and produces the highly sought after fruit (A 152). In California s Napa Valley it is the ability of the rocky and volcanic soil of the alluvial (fan??) to hold water and nutrients, which creates the signature flavor (A 153). When it comes to bottling Cabernet Sauvignon it is rarely bottled alone. In Bordeaux it is usually part of a team of red grapes that includes either ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. German Unification Of Germany German unification was a changing aspect in European history because of the fact that Germany was reliant on their leader Bismarck. Before unification Germany was isolated into thirty nine individual states, which was united in a procedure that began in 1849 and finished in 1871.The principal architect of unification was a German statesman, Otto Von Bismarck. Bismarck #39;s main aim was to unite the German states into one capable nation and gain control for Prussia. He was beginning to create and refine his claim political logic, quot;Realpolitik quot;. This was summed up in the statement he made: quot; The only sound foundation of a great state is state egoism and not romanticism it is unworthy of a great state to fight for something in which it has no interest. quot; He aimed at making Prussia the leader of Germany, and Germany the leading nation of Europe. Therefore, he promised to utilize the strategies for quot;blood and iron quot; to bring all the German nation together under the Prussian monarchy. There were three short Prussian wars during the nineteenth century which brought about the unification of the German states. The war against Denmark (1864), The Austro Prussian War (1866), and The Franco Prussian war (1870 1871). The importance of the war against Denmark was that it was a means of gaining the help of Prussia towards the new army reforms. The results have shown the initial slope (alpha) for the low light was 1.21 and for the high lightwas 0.81, therefore low light did have a steeper slope that Ulva grown under low light. This would be because in the low light Ulva, light is a more of a limiting factor than for the high light Ulva, therefore the low light algae have adapted to harvest the light to suit their environment. The reason that this assumption was made is because Ulva that is growing in light limiting areas need to be able to harvest as much light as possible while the light is available. Chlorophyll a is able to absorb light in the red and blue spectrum while chlorophyll b is able to absorb light at intermediate wavelengths, as discussed in the introduction. The T tests results that were calculated concluded to be: chlorophyll a (0.17), chlorophyll b (0.47) and the total chlorophyll (0.37). Since all three p values are greater than 0.05, it can be concluded that there is no difference between the low and high light means, therefore the predicted (alternate) hypothesis can be rejected. In theory the experiment should have resulted as the alternative hypothesis predicted, but consequently errors have occurred that have prevents this outcome. All the class data was combined, therefore nine replications were conducted which would have eliminated human error, but unfortunately the Ulva used mightn t have been grown under the high and low light conditions for long enough for the chlorophyll to adapt to the ... Her home was her safety net and the place where her family could all be together. Mrs. Frisby and her children were especially lucky to even have a house. Although it was a slightly damaged cinder block, the hollow kind with two ovals through it, but it was the place they called home and they would make it work no matter what the season (pg. 38). There was no way she was going to let it all be destroyed by the farmers. Instead of relocating, she travels all over to find a way to solve her problem, which, in the end, is accomplished. In comparison to the impact Mrs. Frisby s home has on her life, the rats of NIMH don t really have a set home. They are not dependent on one certain place, which is why they come up with a plan to re locate when they find out the rosebush is going to be torn down. Convicted of a 1984 robbery murder, Mr. Glenn Ford was exonerated from his charges after a Louisiana Supreme Court review of his case found evidence proving his innocence. Left with nothing more than a $20 gift certificate, Glenn Ford departed from Angola State Penitentiary with neither direction nor purpose. Grim realities hit him as he swallowed in the fresh, cool air: he had lung cancer, no savings, and was free from the confines of his 5x7 prison cell. In Glenn Ford s case, his state provided lawyers had never even stepped foot in the courtroom before...they never tried a case and [were] defending a capital case. One specialized in oil and gas law and the other had never appeared before a jury, making the pair woefully ill equipped for the most momentous occasion in the defendant s life. Playing off of Mr. Ford s fears and cowering behind the gravitas of the prosecution, they urged Mr. Ford to plead guilty in exchange for a lesser sentence. Little did Ford know that the outcome would be dire, unwittingly driving the final nail in his own coffin. Obviously, plea bargaining brings about many advantages. In most cases, it minimizes the risk of longer sentences if the prosecution uncovers more damning evidence, as well as shortens trial lengths. This works particularly well for those that already know of their guilt, who can choose the lesser of two evils the devil they know. Drawing fewer trials, bargaining supposedly carries the added benefit of minimizing backlogs and enabling more cases to be heard in a given period of time. Yet, many of the troubles of plea bargaining go overlooked. Though some may be genuinely innocent, defendants often plead guilty to more lenient sentences rather than risk the possibility of harsher penalties from a trial s decision made especially more tempting if they have a poor defense team. Furthermore, plead bargaining essentially skates around rigorous methods of truth seeking; thoroughness and impartiality play second fiddle to backdoor wheeling and dealing, making things more a matter of what s convenient to the parties involved than finding ... • 19. Relationship Between Communication And Errors Solution Description The relationship between communication and errors has been well established in the healthcare setting, affecting patient safety and placing the organization in a position of risk (Friesen, Hughes and Zorn, 2007; Wasserman, 2014, Sears et al, 2013). Errors still occur, however, and there is a focus on how healthcare can learn from the behaviors of high reliability industries (Verschoor et al, 2007). One such behavior is that of a Safety Briefing (DSB), through which an organization empowers every employee to be able to report issues that have an effect, or potential effect on safety processes (Kelly, 2013; Rice, 2013; Steelman, 2014). The members of the DSB then have the responsibility for identification of poor processes, system failures and remediation of issues. Safety issues arise in this organization on a daily basis and are reported through an interdisciplinary online tool. Each occurrence report is written by a staff member and routed to the department supervisor. This supervisor forwards the report to any other relevant departments for their review. So, for example, if a patient is admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) from the operating room (OR) with a pressure ulcer, the event is written up by the ICU staff and routed to the ICU supervisor, who then forwards to the ICU manager, the OR manager, the surgeon and the anesthesiologist. The proponents of American liberalization use the example of Dutch, whether they got it right with their slogan of campaigning on the issues. The negative impacts which have arisen from the legalization of drugs in Holland has not only affected Dutch as a nation, but has also spread even to the other nations (Bergen NP). • 31. The Characters Of Coraline And Harry Potter Literary heroes that are also ordinary children are engaging to readers, particularly child readers. James Pope and Julia Round write that Roald Dahl is a fascinating author in that his books for children feature child heroes who are very often neither hero nor villain, but a wild, subversive combination of both (258). These characteristics are also true of Coraline and Harry Potter, as they are presented as imperfect, but ultimately find the power within themselves to save what is important to them. Children readers are empowered by Coraline and Harry because they identify with these ordinary children and feel as if they can also make a difference in their lives, as the characters defeat the evil in theirs. Children are more likely to engage with characters they identify with, but when a character is also a hero, children feel as if they themselves have the power to take agency in their own lives. Coraline is a representation of any child that is easily bored and seeks adventure, but she also displays bravery and heroism. Coraline s greatest strength is her imagination, which she uses to her advantage. Most children have active imaginations as she does, and this quality that they have in common will result in children identifying with Coraline and believing they are just as capable of surmounting obstacles as she is. Helicopter parenting is the over use or excessive use of parental guidance thought to generate a slower progression of emotional maturity and physical wellbeing in young adults. The methods used in this review include examining previous literature and current studies on this issue of helicopter parenting. The purpose of this review is to establish the measure of autonomy and mental wellbeing in young adults who are entering college for the first time. This literary review looks at the long term effects of helicopter parenting. While parental involvement is clearly linked to positive traits in children, can over parenting produce negative outcomes? Issues that have been related to helicopter parenting include a lack of autonomy and satisfaction with life, increased stress, anxiety and depression and overall poor coping skills (Schiffrin et al., 2013). Exactly this story of crime can make you a philosopher while reading, you will definitely think over the tragedy and the meaning of life. The Clutters met a lot of difficulties on their way to find happiness, but were murdered because of no reason. The officers are disappointed, as no connections between the murdered family and strange individuals, who could be involved in committing a crime, were found. In the beginning of the summer of 1940, war broke out over the United Kingdom between the German Luftwaffe and the British Royal Air Force. The fighting started because of the fall of France to the Nazi s. The Nazi s looked to Britain as their next territory they wanted to occupy. Germany had a plan that they were beginning to draw up. Operation Sea Lion called for an assault on Britain by gaining air control over Britain. On the British side, they had a powerful air defense system. Within the air defense system there were the fighter pilots. The leader of the Luftwaffe was Herman Goring and the leader of The Royal Air Force fighter pilots was Air Marshal Hugh Dowding. That night eighty one British Hampden bombers appeared over Berlin and delivered a blow that would halt Hitler s Nazi Third Reich. After the bombing, Goring stated that a bombing of Berlin would not happen again. To his surprise another bombing happened. Hitler was outraged and stated in a radio addresses to his people if the British bomb our cities, we will bury theirs . He ordered Goring to start a brutal air raid on London. The bombing hurt Britain, but gave much needed rest to The Royal Air Force. The British could build back their bases and factories. With The Royal Air Force forces back with increased numbers, they gave the Luftwaffe a beating and diminished their forces. With the numbers of the Luftwaffe dwindling they could not keep up fighting The Royal Air Force. This led to a point where all day bombings, and Operation Sea Lion had to be halted. The British had won the battle. Due to these actions, a turning point in the war took place. The successful defense of Britain was a turning point in WWII. If the Germans ... One of the main differences being that the Common law is largely based on precedent which means that that the decision that a judge needs to make was most likely already made in the similar case. Because Common law uses case law as their reference for future cases, judges have a huge role in making the Common Law to what it is today and what it will be like in the future. In both of the cases, the defendant is the husband and the prosecutor is the wife and both claims are for a breach of contract. In Balfour v Balfour the husband went away from the country to, but the wife was not able to go with him. The husband orally agreed to send money to the wife while he was away working. When the relationship ended so did the payments from the husband. The wife went to court to get the contract enforced in court, but he claims failed because it was decided that there was no intention to create legal relations. The agreement was looked as a domestic arrangement made between husband and wife and not a legal one. In Merritt v Merritt the court was able to distinguish that there was a defence in the marital status of the people compared to the Balfour v Balfour case. It was aggreged that the husband would give money to the wife for her to pay the mortgage and when it fully paid off the house would be changed to only have the wife s name and no longer joint ownership. Millions of people visit the state each year to vacation and enjoy Florida s many tourist attractions. One of Florida largest attractions is its fishing. People come from all over the world to experience Florida s exciting and productive fisheries. Florida is even called the fishingcapital of the world. The state not only has the largest number of recreational fisherman in the country it also has the second largest commercial fishing industry. Commercial fishing in Florida has deep historical roots dating all the way back to the 1800s. In some parts of Florida whole towns and economies are centered around the commercial fishing industry. This has led to depleted populations of several fishspecies in many of these areas. The commercial extraction of large numbers of individuals from targeted marine populations and the inadvertent by catch and habitat damage that results from that extraction have been identified as among the most critical factors currently affecting marine biodiversity ( Brailovskaya 1236) Due to its environmental impacts, there should be more regulation on commercial fishing including stricter size limits, and bag limits on fish. Implementation of bycatch reduction technologies should be required of all commercial fisherman and no fishing zones should be established. In 1889, Pavlov began experiments first focusing on digestion investigating the digestive process between the salivation and the reactions of the stomach but eventually led to classical conditioning. He repeatedly rang a bell, a neutral stimulus that did not cause a response, and then gave the dogs with meat powder, which caused the response of salivation without any learning. Eventually, the dogs began to respond (salivate) at the sound of the bell. In other words, the dogs had learned to predict that the sound of the bell would be followed by presentation of the meat powder. This proved their reflexes could be conditioned by external stimuli. Specifically, after they were conditioned by the ringing of a bell at feeding time, they would reflexively salivate upon hearing the bell, whether or not food was present In 1920, Watson ... Introduction Fitness and muscle model athletes are often benchmarked as the embodiment of physical perfection (Sundgot Borgen et al., 2011). That being said, not all athletes have, or believe that they have, bodies adapted to the paradigm of their specific sport (Sundgot Borgen et al., 2011). These athletes may often experience pressure to achieve this absolute ideal body type. Athletes competing in aesthetic sports such as gymnasts, figure skaters, divers, bodybuilders experience greater pressure to reduce weight than athletes competing in sports in which lean body mass aesthetic are less important (Drinkwater et al., 2005). Within this class of athletes judged on aestheticism, fitness and muscle models are a class whom are noted for dieting down to extremely low level of body fat to display muscle. There appears to be a rise in competitive fitness and muscle model shows and the goal to emulate if not a sporting aesthetic which will appeal domestically and commercially. (Scott et al., 2013). Is it something that we can just adhere to with out ever allowing it to adapt and evolve to meet societies needs? Absolutely not. Just like humanity, the NSW court system contains protruding faults that are made apparent with further scrutiny. The court system is something that requires our constant attention and support to improve and advance. In order for the court system to attain eligibility it relies heavily on 4 fundamental components; affordability, simplicity, fairness and accessibility. For countless Australians our legal system is lacking on all these fronts. Based on the 2012 survey conducted by the New South Whales Law and Justice Foundation, it showed that around 1.7 million Australians can expect to encounter a legal problem each year and 490,000 of those people will not receive legal advice due to financial reasons or lack of knowledge. The prices for legal services have increase by 49% in the last 6 years alone. This dramatic inflation of costs within the justice system leads to increased difficulty within society to be able to afford anything but the most basic of legal representation. One of the most noteworthy moments is near the beginning of the movie when the monks are walking through the town chanting. Monty Python may use rather ludicrous humor to get their point across; however, they do a good job conveying the faults in the Catholic Churchand display them on film. The movie does this through setting, characters costumes, and music. Near the beginning of the movie there is a group of monks seen walking through an impoverished town. Unlike what one would expect from people of God, the monks do not stop to help anyone or even look at them. When there are people lying on the ground half dead, most people would think that the monks would be there to heal and give food to the poor and dying; however, they are seen passing by with their neat robes on. This represents the complete lack of caring that the upper class religious leaders show for the common person. In the middle ages, the church had complete power over the peasants. They had the peasants farm land for them and even pay taxes. The church influenced peasants to pay tithes, otherwise known as taxes, by threatening them. The church convinced the peasants that if they did not pay taxes then their souls would go to Hell in the afterlife. The poor had to pay ten percent of their earnings to the vastly rich church every year. All of the peasants are too scared to stand against the church ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(10) In Romances love and marriage, two matters often associated with each other, are treated as two entirely separate things. In Eliduc by Marie de France and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, marriageis not done out of love, and keeping chivalric codes and promises is paramount, even if it complicates extramarital affairs. In Marie de France s lai Eliduc the titular character refrains from sleeping with his paramour because of his binding contract with his wife. The marriage between Eliduc and GuildelГјec is treated like a contract rather than a romantic relationship, but Eliduc, being an honourable knight, has to adhere to chivalric codes and keeps his promise to stay loyal to GuildelГјec. With an ever changing culture and a strong force against certain changes, certain ethnic and social groups appear to be neglected by the lawmakers of America. One of the more recent occurrences of this has been the LBGT community. Up until 2014, marriage was not even legal between a same sex couple. After gay marriage was ruled legal, a landslide of other reforms were brought to attention. One of the more controversial topics being discussed today is the rights of the LBGT community in accordance to public bathrooms. They argue that anyone should be able to use whichever bathroom that matches with their identified gender. The definition of gender and the rights that accompany them is constantly being updated and adjusted. Because of this sudden movement, social issues are sparking outrage and debate on whether this argument should be implemented into society. This issue has dominated the media and has caused chaos on both sides of the spectrum. Members of the LBGT community should not be able to use whatever bathroom they please. The Suicide Of A Patient Essay The suicide of a patient suffering from an incurable disease, effected by the taking of lethal drugs provided by a doctor for this purpose, is the dictionary definition of assisted suicide, or assisted death. Much debate has taken place over whether or not this should be a right of the terminally ill, and whether a doctor can grant that wish. Although modern medicine has brought a multitude of benefits to humanity, it cannot relieve the pain and suffering associated with the dying process. Kate Pickert, for TIME Magazine, notes that when people hear the term euthanasia they think of the battle in the 1990 s, featuring Jack Doctor Death Kevorkian. Slowly, countries, or at least individual states, have chosen to declare assisted suicide as legal or illegal based on a variety of reasons but religion being the most prominent reason. The idea of assisted suicide is considered illegal in considering the Biblical Commandment, which states Thou Shalt Not Kill. Despite this, some christian societies are considering the idea. Australia legalized it in 1995 but unusually, recanted that law in 1997. Also in 1997, the United States declared that assisted suicide was not a constitutional right but years later in 2006, the Supreme Court decided that such severe cases should be up to the individual states. This ruling contributes to Oregon s Death With Dignity law, which was actually in place since 1997 but in 2007, some 46 people committed suicide in Oregon under the law ( ...
