Language Objectives
Vocabulary: food/colours/numbers
Grammar: Do you like? I like/I don’t like, I want
Content Objectives
name, pronounce, answer the questions, make short
sentences, sing a song
Lesson 1: Food Words
Guessing game (use the flashcards of food the
students have learned in the first grade) guess
the word in the picture
Introduce new words by using flashcards and
drawing them on the board
Draw your favourite food on a piece of
paper. In the end, count the results and
choose the class’s favourite.
Computer game: Chips, please!
Fruit and
vegetable I
spy
Divide students into
groups: fruit vs.
vegetables, red vs.
green… They should
count and write down
the number of fruit and
vegetables in the
picture.
Lesson 2: I like/I don’t like
Game: Chinese whispers (one student whispers a word
which is passed through the line until the last player says
the word out loud)
The song Do you like spaghetti
yogurt?
• Introduce new words: pancakes, cereal
• Let the students guess the meaning of the
lyrics. Ask them to explain when do they
say Yes, I do/No, I don’t.
I like/ I don’t like activity
Unusual food
Let students think of some other unusual food
combinations. They should go around the class
and ask other students about their food. They
can choose the most unusual combination at
the end of the task.

Musical chairs (use the song Do you like
spaghetti yogurt?)
Story: Let’s have a
picnic!
Zoe: I’m hungry! But I want
to play outside!
Jamie: I know! Let’s have a
picnic in the park!
Ben: Yes, great idea! I want
lemonade! I like lemonade,
mmmm!
Zoe: And sandwiches and
fruit salad!
Jamie: And some cheese
for Sam!
All: Yes! Let’s go!
What would you bring on a picnic?
Make a sandwich!
Finish the fruit
Lesson Four - Project: Food
diary/making a fruit salad
Game: Simon says… (Place food flashcards
all over the classroom. Practice commands like: Touch
something red! Touch a fruit! Touch something you
drink! Etc.)
Revision
Revise days of the week Read your homework
from last week
Project: Food Diary!
Make the fruit salad
cut bananas, oranges, apples (or
whatever fruit they have brought),
add sugar, mix it!
And eat it!

ESL Food

  • 2. Young  learners, ages 8, in their 2nd year of English (Grade 2) Language Objectives Vocabulary: food/colours/numbers Grammar: Do you like? I like/I don’t like, I want Content Objectives name, pronounce, answer the questions, make short sentences, sing a song
  • 3. Lesson 1: Food Words Guessing game (use the flashcards of food the students have learned in the first grade) guess the word in the picture
  • 4. Introduce new words by using flashcards and drawing them on the board
  • 5. Draw your favourite food on a piece of paper. In the end, count the results and choose the class’s favourite.

  • 8. Fruit and vegetable I spy Divide students into groups: fruit vs. vegetables, red vs. green… They should count and write down the number of fruit and vegetables in the picture.
  • 9. Lesson 2: I like/I don’t like Game: Chinese whispers (one student whispers a word which is passed through the line until the last player says the word out loud)
  • 10. The song Do you like spaghetti yogurt? • Introduce new words: pancakes, cereal • Let the students guess the meaning of the lyrics. Ask them to explain when do they say Yes, I do/No, I don’t.

  • 13. Unusual food Let students think of some other unusual food combinations. They should go around the class and ask other students about their food. They can choose the most unusual combination at the end of the task.
  • 15. Lesson 3: Story Musical chairs (use the song Do you like spaghetti yogurt?)
  • 16. Story: Let’s have a picnic! Zoe: I’m hungry! But I want to play outside! Jamie: I know! Let’s have a picnic in the park! Ben: Yes, great idea! I want lemonade! I like lemonade, mmmm! Zoe: And sandwiches and fruit salad! Jamie: And some cheese for Sam! All: Yes! Let’s go!

  • 20. Lesson Four - Project: Food diary/making a fruit salad Game: Simon says… (Place food flashcards all over the classroom. Practice commands like: Touch something red! Touch a fruit! Touch something you drink! Etc.)
  • 21. Revision Revise days of the week Read your homework from last week
  • 23. Make the fruit salad cut bananas, oranges, apples (or whatever fruit they have brought), add sugar, mix it! And eat it!
