Some and any are determiners that can be used with both plural countable nouns and uncountable nouns. Some is used in positive sentences while any is used in negative sentences and questions. Exceptions include using some in questions when offering or requesting and using any in positive sentences when the intended meaning is negative.

2. Some and Any : usually determines both plural countable nouns and uncountable nouns. Examples: I draw some ( picture s ) . There isn ’ t any ( milk ) in the refrigerator. ( pictures) plural countable noun (milk) plural uncountable noun

3. How to use “ some ” and “ any ” : Use “ some ” in positive sentences : The children have some books . They have some money.

4. Use “ any ” in negative sentences and questions : Negative sentences: He doesn ’ t need any stamps . Questions: Do you have any friends in Chicago? Is there any pollution in your city?

5. In general we use something / anything somebody / anybody somewhere / anywhere In the same way as ( some / any ): I can’t see anybody coming. He lives somewhere near here .

6. Exception! Use “some” in questions when offering or requesting: Would you like some bread? Could I have some water? Use “any” in positive sentences when the real sense is negative: I refused to give him any money. means ( I didn’t give him any money ) .
