Electro-Static
Discharge Tool
What is ESD TOOLS?
• Electro Discharge Tool or also called as ESD equipment.
• ESD Tool works to actively neutralize the threat posed by static
electricity by working to prevent ESD events.
• Used to safely discharge static charges and, protect the environment
and everything therein.
• More specifically, ESD equipment is intended to prevent static
electricity buildup.
• The most common kinds of ESD equipment are:
Grounding cords. Antistatic tools. Antistatic gloves. ESD rubber
matting. Antistatic clothing.
What is Static Electricity?
Static electricity is the result of an imbalance between
negative and positive charges in an object. These
charges can build up on the surface of an object until
they find a way to be released or discharged. One way
to discharge them is through a circuit.
ANTI STATIC WRIST STRAP
EXAMPLE OF ESD TOOLS
• The purpose of an anti-static
wrist strap is to equalize the
electrical charge between you
and the equipment.
• A conductor that connects
your body to the equipment
that you are working on.
1. Wrap the strap around on your
wrist and secure it using the
snap or Velcro. The metal on the
back of the wrist strap must
remain in contact with your skin
at all times
ANTI STATIC-WRIST HAS TWO PARTS
AND IS EASY TO WEAR:
2. Snap the connector at the
end of the wire to the wrist
strap, and connect the other
end either to the equipment
or to the same grounding
point that the antistatic mat is
connected to.
The use of anti-static matting
prevents the build-up of
electrostatic charge in the
body by dissipating this
charge and thus prevents a
sudden discharge between
electrically charged objects
on contact.
ANTI-STATIC MAT
An antistatic mat is slightly conductive. It works
by drawing static electricity away from a
component and Transferring it safely from
equipment to a ground point:
1. Lay the mat on the workspace next
to or under computer case
2. Clip the mat to the case to provide a
grounded surface on which you can
place parts as you remove them
from the system.
Anti-static or electrostatic
discharge (ESD) gloves protect
workers and the environment
around them, as they are
designed to be used in particle
sensitive and low-contaminate
environments, such as
laboratories, cleanrooms, the
biotech industry, and electronic
works.
ANTI-STATIC GLOVES
HOW DO ESD GLOVES WORK?
• Anti-static gloves reduce the risk of electrostatic shock by
discharging accumulated static electricity.
• The primary purpose of anti-static gloves is to protect
electronic components.
• ESD Gloves either conduct electricity or dissipate static
electricity. Apart from that, these gloves have a mixture of soft
conductive materials and synthetic fibers. This construction
makes the gloves more conductive and prevents static
electricity from accumulating.
• The primary purpose of anti-static gloves is to protect
electronic components.
ANTI STATIC CLOTHING
ANTI-STATIC CLOTHING is specifically made
to stop static charges from people or their
clothing from spreading into the surrounding
environment. Wearing them is standard
procedure in several sectors whenever static
harm is a concern. Smocks, coveralls, and
boots are some of the most popular examples
of ESD-safe gear that you may find.
• ESD-safe work coats and tunics also
hinder charging and remove any charge
thanks to a grid of conductive fibres that
are woven into the fabric. They are mostly
worn in medical areas, cleanrooms
(microelectronics) and hospital
laboratories.
PROPER USE OD ANTI-STATIC CLOTHING
Always wear this item if there is a risk for static
electricity because this made with a plethora of
connective fibres that help to redirect ESD away
from the worker’s skin and instead connect to the
ground surroundings and will work easily just by
wearing
GROUNDING CORDS
Ground wire connects a system
directly to the earth. When high
voltage or irregular electrical
currents occur, the grounding wire
transfers electricity to the ground
rather than the electrical system.
This is a safe transfer of energy that
causes no harm to the
environment.
ESD RUBBER MATTING
ESD RUBBER MATTING or FLOORING and
RUBBER MATS are designed to drain
static charge from items placed on their
surface. For an ESD mat to effectively
ground an item, it must be either
conductive or dissipative and be
connected to a suitable grounding point.
ESD flooring is generally available as
Vinyl or Rubber mats.
FOR PROPER USE: to use this we have to
be connected to a conductive grounding
point to ensure and make this product
work as intended.
Safety Precautions When Using ESD Tools
• Placing components on an antistatic surface, such as
an antistatic discharge mat, an antistatic bag, or a
disposable antistatic mat, is recommended.
• When working on system components, wear an
antistatic grounding strap linked to a metal surface on
the chassis.
