An Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Webinar. You’ve spent long days planning a major project and finally see light at the end of the tunnel. But when you present the timeline to management, you’re told to significantly shorten it. A shorter timeline is doable, but the chances of success will be radically diminished. What do you do? One option is to conduct a PERT Analysis. By implementing PERT (Program Evaluation Review Technique), you can determine whether a desired schedule can be achieved and the related consequences when the schedule is adjusted. This webinar will explain how to use this simple, yet powerful, project management method.
Whether you’re a full-time project manager or simply someone who manages an occasional project, this webinar will equip you with tools and techniques that will help you clearly explain timetables and the requirements to ensure project success.

Cybersecurity education for the next generationIBM Security
In a world of increasing information security threats, academic initiatives focused on cybersecurity are proliferating – yet, there is still the danger of falling short in addressing the long-term threat.
To avoid becoming too focused on near-term issues, academic programs must be more collaborative across their own institutions, with industry, government and among the global academic community.
Only by working in concert can we meet today’s demand while educating the next generation to create a more secure future.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

THE INTERNET, GOVERNANCE AND SECURITY
• This course examines how the Internet and associated communication
technologies have created new means for people to organize, both within
their local communities and across great distances, changing the nature
of the relationship between society and the institutions of government.
• The Internet has allowed people to communicate, often without detection,
that has resulted in both positive and negative effects; e.g., Internet-
based communications have been a significant factor in the both the
growth of transnational terrorism and popular uprisings such as the Arab
Spring.
• In response, governments have often attempted to control the Internet, in
some cases to aid legitimate law enforcement, in others to repress
restless populations seeking change. State institutions can also use
these technologies to create more effective governance and better
response to humanitarian crises.
30. MCMP 510
THE PRACTICE OF CYBERSECURITY
• The course introduces principles of cybersecurity, providing a framework covering
technical, legal, and managerial issues.
• Students will examine computer and network security from the perspectives of the
industry-standard ten core bodies of knowledge:
• access control;
• telecommunications and network
security;
• information security governance
and risk management;
• software development security;
• cryptography;
• security architecture and design;
• operations security;
• business continuity and disaster
recovery planning;
• legal, regulations, investigations and
compliance; and
• physical (environmental) security.
31. MCMP 520
SECURITY ENGINEERING AND MANAGEMENT
• This course is designed to teach how cybersecurity should be integrated
early on in any project or other use of information in a computer or
network setting.
• Emphasis is placed on the relationship between information and the
operation and mission of an agency, business, organization, or other
entity.
• This course specifically ties together information and communications
technology (ICT), cybersecurity, business, policies, and ethics.
• Topics include security engineering concepts (although this is not an
engineering course), distributed systems, network attacks and defense,
security management, encryption, the role of training and education, and
more.
32. MCMP 615
POLICY AND LAW IN CYBERSPACE
• Cyberspace has emerged as a "real" place where people
congregate, crimes occur, social changes are initiated, and a
majority of our work takes place.
• Whereas the physical world — and law and policy that impact the
physical world — can be constrained by geopolitical boundaries, it
is literally impossible to similarly constrain activities in cyberspace.
• For that reason, cyberspace itself is a virtual universe — one that
is global and where every Internet user is a citizen.
• This course describes emerging policies and laws that affect
cyberspace, particularly those related to information security and
cybercrime. The clash between real space and cyberspace is also
examined.
33. MCMP 650
EMERGING TOPICS IN CYBERSECURITY
• This course examines the current research literature
concerning issues related to cybersecurity.
• Topics will include, but not be limited to, current research
topics in information assurance, cybersecurity policy,
information warfare and the Advanced Persistent Threat,
policy and law in cyberspace, evolving information security
technologies and methods, new approaches to incident
response and digital forensics, emerging threats and
adversaries, and the impact of cybersecurity on society and
organizations.
• Students will focus on research techniques, as well as the
presentation of results, legal issues, and relevant
technologies.
34. MCMP 690/691
CYBERSECURITY MANAGEMENT AND POLICY
CAPSTONE
• The capstone provides students with the opportunity to
integrate all disciplines and competencies that have been
learned in this program, plus their past experiences and
professional goals, into a single work-based project,
internship experience, or other appropriate activity.
• The project will be the culmination of a student's studies
integrated in their area of specialization or expertise.
• In cooperation with an advisor, the student will design,
research, and implement a project that is comprehensive in
nature and which addresses, to the extent feasible, all core
areas of knowledge around which the program has been built

Defining the enterprise of “homeland security” is challenging due to the diverse nature of the field. Perhaps the best definition is: The broad national effort by all levels of government - federal, state, local and tribal - to protect the people, and territories of the United States from all threats and hazards, both foreign and domestic.
The Security Studies and International Affairs (SSIA) Department at the Daytona Beach Campus currently offers a B.S. in Homeland Security (H.S.). The program, with 300 active majors, is the third largest UG program at the DB campus. In collaboration with partners at the Worldwide campus, we offer this major as an online Bachelor of Science degree program.
Students complete General Education Requirements (36 hours), Homeland Security Core (45 hours), Breadth or Minor Requirements (30 hours), Program Support (9 hours) and remaining open electives for an overall total of 123 hours.
General education requirement is 36 hours
Communications core would be ENGL 123 or a college composition course. Also would include Speech or another writing course.
Humanities or social sciences course requirements include Humanities, Phycology, Economics, History or Government.
Computer science requirement would be CSCI 109 or another ERAU/transfer computer course
Mathematics would be one of our math series (MATH 111, 112 or MATH 140, 142)
Physical and Life Sciences includes courses transferred in or physics 102 and weather WEAX 201
The H.S. program comprises 45 credits of core courses. Three of these can be replaced with WW courses (two in the catalog and one to be developed by COA).
The 110 Introduction to Homeland Security and 310 Fundamentals of Emergency Management are also used in the BSSM degree program offered by COA
SCTY 488 National Security Issues and Terrorism - and SCTY 315 (Studies in Intelligence I) or SCTY 385 (Intelligence Collection and Analysis. (all are in WW Security and Intelligence Minor)
Background information if asked:
- EMGY 310 Fundamentals of Emergency Management course (In catalog - programmed to be developed by WW COA).
To accommodate the asynchronous nature of the online major, we also will need to add a capstone project option to the current DB requirements for a practicum and internship. All courses are currently developed and being taught at the Daytona Beach Campus, however, 12 courses will need to be developed for delivery in an online format.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was formed in 2002 in the aftermath of the events of 9/11. Combining 17 disparate agencies, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Transportation Security Agency (TSA), U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and U.S. Secret Service, DHS has a broad range of responsibilities all linked to protecting the United States from -- and responding to -- terrorist attacks, man-made accidents, and natural disasters. The practice of homeland security entered the realm of academia by 2005, and ERAU started to offer one of the first such programs in the nation. Hiring by DHS and other federal agencies continues to grow.
Over the last ten years, the best practices associated with the public sector aspects of this field have been picked up by the private sector -- risk assessment, risk management and mitigation, emergency management and response, intelligence gathering, etc. Indeed, private companies are now hiring their own risk managers and corporate security has risen to new levels of practice. As more and more companies find themselves potential targets of terrorists and criminals, prone to large-scale accidents, or in the zone of natural disasters, they need the properly educated and trained professional to manage identification, mitigation, preparation, training, and response to threats and actual incidents.

Good day to you as you join live or listen to this recorded webinar. Thank you Bill for hosting this and spearheading this important way of reaching out to a broad community.
We have an audience here at the Prescott Campus of Embry-Riddle joining hundreds of others around the country and the globe.
At the Prescott campus we started the nations first College of Security and Intelligence housing both the Cyber Intelligence Program as well as the flagship Global Security and Intelligence Studies (GSIS) bachelor and masters programs. With over 500 graduates around the world, we can boast of representation at government agencies and corporations of all types.
Because this area is considered a top national security priority, funding has been added to improve the development of the workforce.
NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) has created a framework so educators, students, industry and government can all use a similar language.
We are moving to professionalize the industry with standards and job titles.
As we see on the display every metropolitan area is seeking hundreds or thousands of workers that can understand and analyze cyber security issues.
Can someone today take over a plane from on-board or the ground and take control of the plane?
Although there is no indication that it is possible today, the increased use of technology such as EFB particularly Class 3 that can interact with the on-board avionics have the potential for new attacks that could be of concern.
Similarly the full scope of the 2-way communications utilising ADSB are not understood.
Research is needed to remain vigilant.
Program Concept The master’s degree in cybersecurity management and policy is geared for non-technical, non-engineers. It is designed to offer forensic, project and policy expertise to those who have managerial responsibility over human and digital resources in the homeland security enterprise.
The Need for Cybersecurity Management and Policy Expertise
Recent cyber attacks -- look no further than Target and a dramatic increase in the number of attacks on utility companies and other critical infrastructures – these are examples of failures in systems and personnel, not hardware/software.
Cyber conflict between the U.S. and China, huge economies... plus the inordinate power of individuals (e.g., Julian Assange and Edward Snowden) and small countries (e.g., Estonia) in cyberspace
Our society -- and, increasingly our culture -- is information-driven. Cybersecurity -- aka information security and information assurance -- education, policies, and procedures are essential for protecting that information
All levels of government, industry, and academia are responding by growing their infosec services, offerings, and expertise, etc. There is a lot of technology available and a plethora of infosec "workers" -- but a dearth of people who understand and can manage and guide the information security process
Answer the needs of all levels of government and industry to have cybersecurity expertise at the policy and management level
Support a multidisciplinary group of professionals that understand management, policy, leadership, law, security and defense, and international dynamics as well as cybersecurity
Target audience includes recent graduates and working professionals in the broad discipline of homeland security, business, government, the military, and others in the public and private sectors
This program is focused on management, policy and forensics. It is not an Intelligence-focused program such as Prescott’s.

The Masters of Science in Cybersecurity Management and Policy (MS CMP) is delivered and developed by faculty in the Daytona Beach Department of Security Studies and International Affairs (SSIA) and the Worldwide’s Department of Security of Emergency Response, plus outside experts in specialty areas are often integrated into the curriculum. Both departments are housed in their respective College of Arts and Sciences. This 30 credit, online program is tailored to working professionals, and includes a two-part capstone course sequence following completion of specialized core courses. Capstone projects are expected to allow students to more deeply explore challenges from their respective worksites or issues endemic to their careers in a scholarly way. Though not all will culminate in published research, the expectation is that capstone projects could be publishable in scholarly journals or submitted to professional conferences. The curriculum is composed of a 6 credit common core, 12 credits of specialized cybersecurity courses, 6 credits of capstone courses, and 6 credits of electives, as outlined
