Benefits Of A Mercenary
How to become a mercenary.
In today s growing economy, people try to get a career with monetary security and additional benefits.
But where there are some of other career opportunities in which people find their pride and work
satisfaction more than monetary security. And such career types might rely on higher risk factor such
as defense career, mercenary and many others.
Mercenary meaning or definition
Technically the meaning of mercenary comes with a complete description where its objective is to
create a career in the foreign army. In simple words, it is career profile, where candidates will be hired
to work and deliver their duties in the foreign army. Moreover, it is like the work profile which comes
with an army or military background. Now that you have known about the profession of Mercenary,
you must be keen to know why you should become one. It is also important for you to know that a

How to become a mercenary
There are some of the basic requirements of becoming the mercenary. Being a mercenary is a matter
of pride and honor and for that, some people tend to take a lot of risks to become one. But eventually,
these risks of life which get paid off with their bravery and performance on the job. Therefore, let s list
out all the basic requirements of being or becoming a mercenary, they are as follows:
1. Candidates need to be physically fit.
It is one of the basic requirements to become a mercenary. As most of the common knowledge goes, a
mercenary is a person who defends the country from expected and unexpected threats. Therefore, for
that sake that person needs to be in shape. And those who are willing to be a mercenary and trying to
get in as a mercenary should start getting themselves in

On Being Brought From Africa To America By Phillis Wheatley
The Salvage of Slavery The poem On Being Brought from Africa to America , by Phillis Wheatley,
talks about her gratitude towards the Europeans for changing Africans former religions into
Christianity. Wheatley was born in West Africa in about 1753, and she was kidnapped and enslaved in
Boston, Massachusetts in 1761. In this poem, Wheatley looks at slavery as freedom from religious
bondage which shows her openmindeness. She expresses her feelings about her revelation of
Christianity through symbolism, theme , and figurative language. Wheatley reveals the symbolism by
using a train to represent the journey to Heaven, Remember, Christians, Negros, black as Cain / May

The Beatitudes Is Not Only A Blessing
The Beatitudes may appear as if they are merely a simple arrangement of blessings, but in reality they
are full of meaning and beyond any ordinary passage in the Bible. Every line in the Beatitudes is not
only a blessing, but a call for action directed towards the people of Israel. The passage seems to focus
on Jesus as he speaks to his disciples and the crowd listening about how they could achieve the
righteousness that will create the foundation of Heaven. He is not simply encouraging people to live
morally and repent so that they will be welcome into the Kingdom of God. He is urging them to learn
how to live happily and spread their generosity to others so that they will feel more connected to God.
Jesus seems to direct most of the Beatitudes towards his disciples, who represent a new and reborn
Israel that harbors no hesitation to put their faith in God, while the crowd that listens intently to Jesus
s words are the potential that Israel has to become virtuous. The Beatitudes are the guidelines that
Israelites must follow so that they may live ethical and pure lives.
The Beatitudes are much more allegorical than literal. They are written instructions that the Israelites
are required to follow if they wish to live wholeheartedly, rather than a way to act in order to be
accepted by God and welcomed into Heaven. For instance, the first line in the Beatitudes, Blessed are
they who mourn, for they shall be comforted (Matthew 5:4) depicts those who are grateful for Jesus

Housing And Transportation Are Necessary In Today s...
I believe that housing and transportation are strongly related, they are both factors that highly depend
on each other. Housing and transportation can help lead to a high quality of life, for example, by being
close to work, having large green spaces or living in a walkable neighbourhood lead to a healthier life.
As stated in the textbook when a person is deprived of these factors they are living in layers of
interrelated disadvantages that leads to poor health, unemployment, high stress and crime. Both
housing and transportation are necessary in today s Canadian society, where people have to live at the
outskirts of cities in order to find affordable housing, due to gentrification in downtown cores which
has to lead to housing to be expensive.

Laissez-Faire Economics, The Bracero Program, And The...
The historical theme of Work, Exchange, and Technology relates to the process of outsourcing,
Laissez faire economics, the Bracero program, and the Manhattan Project. Each of these terms relates
to the development of the American economy based on changes to agriculture, commerce, and
manufacturing. To start with, the process of outsourcing involves obtaining services or products from
an outside source in order to reduce the cost of that service or product. By taking advantage of this
process, the economy of the United States saw an increase as production prices decreased. Second,
during Laissez faire economics, the government allows an industry to be free of state interventions.
This kept industries free from government tariffs or monopolies,

Galveston Hurricane
In the turn of the new century, the people of Galveston were faced with a grim reminder. The event
that destroyed the small island of Galveston, the Galveston Hurricane, had many social, political, and
economic impacts that made this storm life changing. The Galveston Hurricane of 1900 improved
Texas for the better and helped Galveston grow stronger as a city. The society of Galveston suffered
greatly after the hurricane in both good and bad ways. The people of Galveston lost almost everything
they had; everything was nearly ruined. As stated by Ida Smith Austin, Mov. 6, 1900, during the storm
planks and debris were thrown around in the air and water flooded homes. Many survivors of the
storm lost almost everything they had, this formed

Comparison Of Adam Bede And Goblin Market
Comparing George Eliot s Adam Bede and Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market
George Eliot s Adam Bede offers a realistic and highly detailed look into the everyday life of ordinary
people in rural Treddleston. Although the characters are fictional, several of them are based upon
people Eliot knew or knew of, which adds to the realism. As she delightedly observes and describes
the intricacies of the natural, ordinary world, Eliot pays attention to human nature, applying keen
psychological insight to characters thoughts, choices, and actions. Eliot seems to understand that
certain people are a certain way, and she encourages her reader to gently evaluate, rather than hastily
judge, both her characters and people in general. Within the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Eliot describes the problem with physical attractiveness, the kind that renders Hetty susceptible to
vanity, self centredness, and ultimately, poor choices. Beautiful, kitten like Hetty is so caught up in her
appearance and in the way she is certain others perceive her that she is barely affected by the serious
and often grave situations others are experiencing. In fact, after discovering that Adam s father had
died, Hetty was thinking a great deal more of the looks Captain Donnithorne had cast at her than of
Adam and his troubles (Eliot 96). It is not that Hetty is deliberately cruel or uncaring, but admiring
glances from a handsome young gentleman, with white hands...and wealth and grandeur
immeasurable...set poor Hetty s heart vibrating, and playing its little foolish tunes over and over again
(Eliot 96). Eliot, though clearly disapproving of Hetty s foolish vanity, nonetheless encourages her
reader to be understanding of the young girl. She directly addresses the reader as she accounts for
Hetty s self centredness:
We must learn to accommodate ourselves to the discovery that some of those commonly fashioned
instruments called human souls have only a very limited range of music, and will not vibrate in the
least under a touch that fills others with tremulous rapture or quivering agony. (Eliot 96)

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Resonance
Advantages:
Harmonic reduction is possible.
Undesirable harmonics are absent.
Reactive power compensation is possible.
Disadvantages:
Resonance with line impedance occurs.
Tuning frequency is less accurate and requires a lot of calculations.
It cannot be used when harmonic components vary randomly.
Heavy and bulky.

APF is basically of two types. They are (i) Shunt APF (ii) Series APF
(i) Shunt APF
This type of configuration is widely used in active filtering applications. A shunt APF has a
controllable voltage or current source. Fig. 3.4 demonstrates principal configuration of a voltage
source inverter based APF which the most common type of shunt APF today. It is based on the
principle of injection of harmonic current equivalent to the distorted current waveform, thus
eliminating the original distorted current. This is connected in shunt with the distribution line through
an interfacing inductor. Fig. 3.4: Basic configuration of Shunt APF
(ii) Series APF
Basic principle of this type of configuration is isolation of harmonics in between nonlinear load and
source. The basic configuration is similar with shunt APF, except that interfacing inductor is replaced
by an interfacing transformer, where the injection of harmonic voltage occurs. It is otherwise known
as a harmonic isolator, which offers zero impedance to the fundamental and infinite impedance to the
harmonic frequency components. Fig. 3.5 demonstrates the basic configuration of a series APF. Series
APF is suitable for improving the quality of the distribution source

Devil Facial Tumour Disease Case Study
Introduction: What is Tasmanian Devil Facial Tumour Disease?
 Identified in 1996 the Tasmanian Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD) is the growth of fatal
tumours on the faces of Tasmanian Devils (Sarcophilus harrisii), specifically the mouth and teeth.
(Hamede RK, McCallum H Jones M, 2013)
 Affecting the largest carnivorous marsupial alive (Beeton N McCallum H, 2011) the tumour cells
are transmitted through the biting of one Devil to another either in attack to access food first, or
predominantly as part of mating. (Grueber CE et al. 2015)
 Tasmanian Devils have little genetic diversity especially when it comes to a crucial
histocompatibility complex gene that is required for efficient immune system functioning in the
species. (Hamede ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Genetic Research on the Histocompatibility Complex and Telomeres
The DFTD tumour is accepted to be clonal, originating from a single Schwann cell that did not dye in
the Devil it first infected rather spreading through the species. (Grueber CE et.al 2015)
The Histocompatibility Complex genome is important for an organism to distinguish its own cells
from foreign cells, yet Tasmanian Devils have a variation in this gene resulting in the tumour cell
going unidentified by the body. (Siddle H et.al 2012)
Finding a way to restore the function of the Histocompatibility Complex genome so that it can activate
antibodies such as β2 microglobulin (β2 m) to kill the tumour should be an area focused on because it
can then be introduced into one infected Devil that can bite others and so the genome is passed on.
(Siddle H et.al 2012)
The DFTD tumour cells also have chromosomes that have been protected from misshaping by strong
Telomere and Shelterin compounds that should worn of long ago due to a lot of DNA replication.
(Grueber CE et al. 2015)
Targeting these Telomere/Shelterin compounds may be useful to suppress the tumour cells, killing it

Development Of Hate Crimes
and their extents. As a recently coined term, it was not widely known as to what exactly it entailed.
HSCA would give one the ability to see, in numbers, how often the crimes were occurring.
Another impactful facet of the bill would be to support future development of hate crime legislation.
Legislation, moving forward, would need as much momentum as possible for future implementation.
But as public knowledge, those in support believed that reporting would aid in such momentum. It
would also aid in law enforcement s ability to address hate crimes. For one, with the bill, they would
have access to information that was never available before. This could help in both predicting future
crimes, as well as addressing them where they are most prominent. ... Show more content on

Although the bias was apparent through his speech, it was made provable through the young men s
actions in which he inclined. But this is where hate crime statues become tricky, and face most
opposition. Those against hate crime statutes argue just that, of one s rights being violated if a penalty
enhancement is enforced.
Those in opposition, however, would eventually be out reasoned; much thanks to this case in
particular. What the ruling brought to light was ideals and reason that are still in place today
surrounding hate crime laws. One, being the public display of the serious nature in which these crimes
present, and the repercussions that follow if committed. Just as the HCSA intended to bring exposure
to such acts, this case would send a similar message in that acts of this nature will not be tolerated. If
committed, they are subject to a greater penalty.
Which is the other strongpoint of this case. The ruling proved, through court of law, that an act s
penalty can be constitutionally enhanced. This case would be of great aid in paving the way for hate
crime statues, on a national level, to be implemented in the

King s Violent Diction
King uses repetition along with violent diction to illustrate Jack s primary concern as an inability to
sustain a successful looking public image, further characterizing him as self conscious and egocentric.
By implementing violent diction, King highlights Jack s loathing for the thought of one day having to
work a menial job to support his family, emphasizing the fact that Jack would rather preserve his
public image than aid his family. Whilst Jack contemplated possible future scenarios, he clenched his
fists tighter still, feeling the fingernails sink into his palms and draw blood in mystic quarter moon

Use Of Pinctuations In A Midsummer Night s Dream By...
We live in a world of plummeting punctuation standards according to Ms.Truss. Many people don t
take punctuation seriously. Many people think it s useless. There are many punctuation mistakes, no
matter where one looks. Eats, Shoots, and Leaves is about how careless many people are with the use
of punctuations and why they are very important to modern day English. She shows how punctuations
were used correctly and incorrectly in older literature pieces. She gives a list of how to correctly use
commas, exclamation points, etc. She also references other punctuation/grammatical books. Unlike
many of Shakespeare s pieces, Eats, Shoots, and Leaves is against the punctuation Shakespeare used
in his writing.
Punctuation can change a sentence drastically. For example We do not come as minding to content
you, our true intent is. All for your delight we are not here. William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night
s Dream,Act V, scene i. This sentence has many punctuation errors. Shakespeare writes our true intent
is. All for your delight instead of putting a comma he uses a period, this makes the text dramatic, but
punctually incorrect.Since Shakespeare has authority in the literature community, he was idolized for
the punctuation error. Many people like Shakespeare deliberately defied punctuations and the writing
was a success. If you misplace a punctuation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Catoctin Mountain Review Essay
Introduction:
The National Park Service (NPS) and the U. S. Department of the Interior (USDI) drafted the Catoctin
Mountain National Park Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) (2006) to
impart knowledge of a need for action to facilitate the regeneration of vegetation and reforestation of
the park. A population of white tailed deer that was exceeding an estimated 100 individual animals per
square mile was over browsing the vegetation. According to the EIS a population of 15 to 20
individuals is optimal to protect herd health and allow regeneration of the vegetation. The EIS listed
four alternatives that were investigated in depth according to the National Environmental Protection
Act requirements (FHWA, n.d.) these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This alternative would reach the goals through the length of the plan. The reduction in deer population
would not be rapid and regeneration would be seen mostly in the exclusions until the population had
diminished and the plan cost is over $9.5 million. The preferred alternative, alternative C was
comprised of the continuation of alternative A with the use of sharpshooting and the subduing and
euthanization of deer to rapidly reduce the population to the goal range in three years. Through this
alternative the goals would be meet in a relatively short time frame at a cost between $738,600 and
$941,100. The final alternative, alternative D also continued alternative A with the combination of
sharpshooting, euthanization, and reproduction control. Alternative D would meet the goals of the plan
in a similar time frame as alternative C with a cost of between $1.4 and $1.6 million.
Rejected alternatives:
Several alternatives were rejected for various reasons. The first rejected alternative was a managed
hunt, for the need of legislation change in congress to allow a hunt on NPS land and possible cost and
safety issues. A second was sterilization of bucks, which would only show moderate control of the
population if the dominant buck were sterilized. Predator reintroduction was next rejected, because
studies have shown that predators have not shown consistent

The Success Of Michael Vick
Another reason Michael Vick rebuilt his image after the dog fighting scandal of 2007 was that he
helped develop the Animal Fighting Speculation Prohibition Act. One way he did that was helping
craft the future to prevent dog fighting. Once Vick and a few others came up with the idea, they
brought it to Wayne Pacelle, the president of the Humane Society. We saw a great opportunity for me
to come to Capitol Hill and draw attention to some of the inadequate animal welfare laws (Vick). Vick
was eight years old when he saw his first dog fight. Back then, police would come break up the fights,
but no one would be arrested. Vick wanted to change that.

Philadelphia didn t want the Eagles to sign quarterback Michael Vick, because he was a convicted

field to prove those people wrong. Vick wanted people to know that he was not only going to talk the

try to expose him violating his probation (Vick). Vick was disturbed by this, because it meant that
some people hated him so much that they would go that far out of their way just to get rid of him.
Andy Reid, the Eagles coach at the time, took particular interest in Vick s recovery because he had
two sons imprisoned in 2007 for drug abuse. He knew what it was like seeing all those men in prison

Christian Philosophy of Education Essay
Christian Philosophy of Education As we go through our day by day lives in a very secular world, I
believe it is very easy to question ourselves as Christian educators. We ask ourselves if we are doing
our jobs exactly to God s calling. Are we striving to teach the truth? And with that, what is truth?
According to Gaebelein in his book The Pattern of God s Truth, All truth is God s truth. As educators
we are called upon to cultivate Christlike minds (Moreland). This is quite the task, especially given
our surrounding circumstances and constant secular environment. Not only are we, as educators
surrounded by this secularism, but our young, adolescent students are as well. So, how do we
accomplish such as task of guiding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Christian educators, we are called to promote and support learning in those areas. True teaching is
a sharing of realities, likening the teaching process and weaving connections between their teachings
and understandings themselves and the world around them. If we do not make connections for the
students to the world around them, many times these precious gifts graced upon them will be
overlooked or passed by because the young minds may not be able to recognize them. Some areas of
observation might be seen as open doors to see or perceive and understand something of God and His
motion as reflected through the created world and the Bible. Other areas might be seen as open doors
to respond, apply, express and practice in ways that are consistent with biblical values. When these
areas are discovered and embraced, many times they can address the major developmental needs in
the spiritual, intellectual, physical, social, and emotional realms of the student s life. Identifying these
areas is helping the students begin their walk with the Lord and their own calling. The teaching
learning environment should be receptive to the nature of human nature as it was originally created in
the image of God. This means it should acknowledge students as creatures of God (again, not simply
as subjects in a room) by engaging and stimulating the full

A Study Of African History
Many people think slavery happened after a group of explores from Portuguese started ring the coast
of West Africa, but little do they know African Americans were trading themselves way before then.
Portuguese explorer Prince Henry, known as the navigator, was the first European to methodically
explore Africa and the oceanic to the Indies.[1] Many Europeans thought that Africa s history was not
important. They argued that Africans were inferior to Europeans and they used this to help justify
slavery. However, the reality was very different. A study of African history shows that Africa was by
no means inferior to Europe. As you can see below, the people who suffered the most from the
transatlantic slave trade were civilized, organised and technologically advanced peoples, long before
the arrival of European slavers, trying to suggest they were backward peoples.[2]
A major advance was the introduction of the caravel in the mid 15th century, a small ship able to sail
windward more than any other in Europe at the time. Evolved from fishing ships designs, they were
the first that could leave the coastal cabotage navigation and sail safely on the open. For celestial
navigation the Portuguese used the Ephemerides, which experienced a remarkable diffusion in the
15th century. They were astronomical charts plotting the location of the stars over a distinct period of
time. These charts revolutionized navigation, allowing to calculating latitude. Using the caravel,

Law Enforcement Lessons Learned Essay
One of the the best lessons learned from history for today s practice of law enforcement intelligence is
the necessity of obeying the law and procedures as in addition to corruption and a lack of incentive to
do things by the book many officers lacked the wherewithal to make a difference in their jurisdiction.
After much public outcry we are now able rely more on today s law enforcement as they are placed
under strict management and are regularly evaluated to ensure consistency and reduce bias from the
system. This leads into another lesson with involves respecting people s rights, with great power
comes great responsibility as they say, officers are often tasked to respond to calls for service, order
maintenance, etc. which involves many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason is improving methods of data collection, processing, and reporting, as in the past law
enforcement were trained to react to crime, so even if a the idea of regularly documenting all
information is brought up many officers lack the experience and the guidance to gather and process
the information that they find. Unfortunately it takes a string of tragedies that could have been
prevented through threat based intelligence prompt more security policies to be passed, but at least
now many law enforcement departments have more resources they use to guide them. Lastly is the
lesson about sharing intelligence, many law enforcement departments were hesitant to share classified
information as it would perhaps add likely so much more to their already stressful workload and the
possible repercussions of displaying evidence of misidentification and mismanagement. However in
the wake of past tragedies that resulted from the failure to provide the intelligence it had become more
apparent that it would be in everyone s best interest to open up more channels of communication.
While there are other lessons we can learn from history I feel that these are the four main ideas that
most people will agree that law enforcement should adhere

Single Life And Single Marriage Is Better To Be Single
Over the years there have been many studies that prove there are many health benefits to being
married. There are differences and advantages between single life and married life. Physical health
and mental health are areas of concern regarding married couples and singles. Some studies have
shown that overall happily married couples have better health while singles have several risk factors.
More freedom may come from being single while being married provides greater security and far
better health. For your health s sake is it better to be married or remain single? Consistent research and
studies have been conducted which show that being married is good for your heart health and overall
health. Married couples that are in a happy intimate relationship have a lower chance of
cardiovascular disease compared to single people. Couples in a bad marriage are often stressed which
can lead to cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and many other health problems. Singles are at
a greater risk for cardiovascular disease, autoimmune conditions and depression because they don t
always have emotional or physical support. Doctors believe emotional, physical and strong family ties
will lower blood Khoulban 2 pressure and maintain a healthy heart. One of the few advantage singles
have is the time to exercise and take care of themselves to aide in being healthy. Married couples don t
have the same freedom because of their obligation to their family. Most married couples both are
working which prevents from exercise. But overall marriage makes you healthier because of the health
benefits, mental health benefits, and living longer. Married couples and singles differ in their
responsibilities to themselves and families. Married couples are at greater risk for weight gain than an
unmarried person. Married couples have a tendency to get settled and comfortable in their relationship
which can contribute to the weight gain. Also, married couples normally view themselves as off the

Love And Marriage In Pride And Prejudice And Bridget...
ESSAY
The context of a novel or film can greatly affect the values of society through the key concepts of love
and marriage, and feminine appearance of a woman. We can clearly observe the comparisons of Jane
Austen s 1813 novel Pride and Prejudice to Sharon Maguire s 1997 film Bridget Jone s Diary. The
novel Pride and Prejudice was composed in the Regency period where marriage was vitally important
for a woman as it meant a financially stable future, and usually not based on love, whereas Bridget
Jones Diary set in a contemporary society where woman married for love and were economically
independent. However, both text explores similar aspects where both heroine challenges the
expectations of women and both are not constrained by the strict social conformity of a woman.
To marry a wealthy man was the only option for women to guarantee a life without economic
concerns and this is explored in the opening line of It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single
man in possession of a good fortune, must in want of a wife where Jane Austen uses verbal irony as it
is not the man seeking a woman, but the other way around. Woman could only consider marrying a
man if he is considered as the rightful property . The use of personification emphasizes that men were
only determined as a property and to provide a financially secure future. In the novel, the Bennet
sisters had to gain financial status through marriage, but Elizabeth did not want to marry based upon

Theme Of Petruchio In The Taming Of The Shrew
The Secret To Wed A Shrew Lust, wealth, and pride are undoubtedly insatiable. They are an impetus
that drives one to embark on a challenging quest. However, when individuals become obsessed with
them, they may even turn them into a villain. In William Shakespeare s The Taming Of The Shrew,
Petruchio is the villain that has all these insatiable curiosities. A male chauvinist, he is a boisterous
nobleman from Verona who pursues Katherine even though he knows that she is fiery and obnoxious.
Despite her notoriety, he is not deterred by her egregious disposition because what he wants is her
dowry. By being manipulative, corrupt, and audacious, Petruchio is able to win Katherine s heart as
well as her wealth. Petruchio is able to get closer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
ii. 53 62). By analyzing this dialogue, it becomes apparent that Petruchio only cares about wealth and
power, no matter how shrewish and unattractive his future wife may be. Further evidence that proves
that Petruchio only cares about Katherine s dowry is during the wedding feast, Petruchio announces:
Gentlemen and friends, I thank you for you I know you think to dine with me today And have
prepared great store of wedding cheer, But so it is, my haste doth call me hence, And therefore here I
mean to take my leave (III ii 157 161). This seals the fact that Petruchio does not love Katherine at all,
as clearly, there are seemingly more important things to him than celebrating his own marriage.
Hence, Petruchio s corruption for wealth is the only factor that drives him to marrying Katherine, as
he doesn t actually care about Katherine herself. Finally, the reason why Petruchio is able to complete
his plans is because of his audacious nature. His unrefined personality allows him to speak freely and
ask disrespectful questions in order to deceive people and grasp the situation in hand. This is evident
when Petruchio bluntly asks Baptista: Then tell me, if I get your daughter s love,

The Bill Of Rights And The Constitution
Before dealing with individual amendments I would like to deal with the entire Bill of Rights and the
constitution itself. The framers of the Constitution were wary of ceding too much power to the federal
government. They rightly believed many local citizens would never make it to the capital but would
interact with local government, so the power should be kept at the most local level possible. It was
impossible to foresee in 1791 a world with video conferencing, 24 hr news and the ability to fly
around the world within 36 hours. Because of the world we live in, I believe it is more necessary to
make the Constitution and the Bill of Rights the foundational laws of the land. In 1833, the Supreme
Court ruled in Barron v. Baltimore that the Bill of rights was written out of fear by the Antifederalist
to constrain the federal government. We have given the individual States the power to make laws that
conflict and contradict with Federal law, the laws of other states and national norms. It is these
contradictions that allowed the Jim Crow laws and the doctrine of Separate but Equal to flourish in the
aftermath of the Civil War. I believe that the law should be formulated at the highest level and filter
down to the lowest. Make the Constitution and the Bill of Rights the total law of the land and no other
law in any state may contradict them to ensure the beginnings of equality among all citizens. The First
Amendment states, Congress shall make no law respecting an

Discrimination In The Movie, The Blind Side, By Michael Oher
The movie The Blind Side was released in 2009. It is about a young man, named Michael Oher, who
grew up in a poor environment. In the beginning of the movie, Michael was homeless and not
currently attending school. All of that changed when a woman, named Leigh Anne Tuohy, offered
Michael the chance to stay with her and her family. The Tuohy family was well off, unlike Michael, so
it was an adjustment for both the family and him to live together. However, the family was very warm
and welcoming to Michael, which differed from many of the other people Michael encountered. In the
movie, Michael experienced racism, discrimination, and prejudice towards him from a variety of
people. Michael lived in a bad area when he was a young boy. This ... Show more content on

Michael was laying on the ground because he was tackled but after the referee blew the whistle, a
member from the other team kicked Michael in the head. Michael did nothing to react in a threatening
way, he just continued laying on the ground. His couch asked the referee why the other team did not
get a penalty for kicking Michael. The referee then waved his yellow rag and called un sportsman like
conduct for Michael team, despite the fact that they did not do anything wrong. Another example of
discrimination towards Michael on the field was when he was blocking a player on the other team.
Michael did not execute any foul plays, yet the referee s called out his team. The coach asked the
referee what they did wrong and they responded by saying, I don t know... excessive blocking. The
referee s obviously did not have a significant reason for blowing their whistles and they likely would
not have mentioned it if Michael was white. Similarly to real life, people are prejudice and racist
towards people behind their backs too. The movie displays a good example of this. As I previously
mentioned, the Tuohy family had a large amount of money, they even owned multiple chains of Taco
Bell. Due to their money, Leigh Anne was friends with women who were wealthy as well. One day,
Leigh Anne and her friends were eating at an expensive restaurant and while they were waiting on
their food, they began a conversation about Michael. One of the women said Hey, does Michael get

Technology In The Chrysalids
Imagine a world in a state where nothing ever changes. A world where humanity never evolves or
adapts to situations. In the novel, The Chrysalids, it is clear that John Wyndham was writing as a
warning for today s society. Wyndham created the communities in The Chrysalids to show society
how if they behaved in a similar fashion to how they did humanity would not progress. The
xenophobia of Waknuk was portrayed in a way that warned the reader how much of a hindrance the
constant judging of people with differences could be. The novel also warned the reader about how
humans fabricate answers when they do not understand something and how technology is used in
ways that go against the benefit of humanity. The people of Waknuk lost the benefit of ... Show more

Myth Busting Summary
While doing my research I came across a very informational article that will help me come to a
conclusion that helps my hypothesis. The article is titled Myth Busting: Robert Pape on ISIS, suicide
terrorism, and I.S. Foreign Policy . Elliot Balch writes this article in an interview style he has with
Robert Paper, and the reason I will be using this article for this assignment is because it is to the point
and in my opinion comes from a reliable source. Robert Pape is a Professor of Political Science at the
University of Chicago who specializes in international security affairs (Balch, 2015). While reading

This helps my hypothesis because if we do not step in, ISIS will continue to push into more cities. So
what can an ordinary person do? It s basically looking for ways to participate in grassroots
organizations. And one of the things to do is to talk about new arguments and new ideas. Within six
degrees of separation, each of us knows everybody in the world. So if people who read your piece will
just tell two or three other people, and then ask them to talk to two or three other people, that will do a
lot more good than they might realize. It s actually a lot more powerful than people think, and it is the
way to go forward (Balch, 2015). This was my favorite thing that was said because it gives a potential
solution to the problem. By communicating with not just our government, but as citizens, we are able
to help come up with ideas and stop misinformation from happening. This article gave me some
insight on what and how ISIS is doing in the East, and it also was able to tare apart some myths that I

Goal Vs. Team Goals For Older Athletes
It is difficult to say which goal is more important. I think it is very dependent on the age of the
athletes. I think for younger athletes who are still learning, the more important goal should be for
personal achievement in development, success, performance, and behavior. The team goals should be
acknowledged, but the goals should be within the abilities of the athletes. For older athletes in a more
professional setting, I think the overall goal for the team should be the main focus. Again, with
personal goals not falling to the side, but with a main focus on team goals. If I had to give up one to
achieve the other, I think letting go of the team goals for athletes personal success is more important.
Again, this has to do with the team goal

Comparing Bell Tolls And Slaughterhouse-Five
For Whom the Bell Tolls and Slaughterhouse Five are structured around the central theme of life and
death due to the circumstances of war. Both authors have a unique spin on how they chose to portray
their protagonists and how their protagonist would handle the experiences of war with the thoughts
and fears of death awaiting them. Ernest Hemingway and Kurt Vonnegut are two writers that both
incorporate their various experiences of war within their novels through the theme of war and death;
however, Hemingway s ideas on death within For Whom the Bell Tolls differs from character to
character but is seen as something which pervades them, whereas Vonnegut in Slaughterhouse Five
addresses the inevitability of death but in a gentler manner.

In the novel, War intensifies beyond human control and forces the characters to inflict thoughts of
death upon themselves and each other. At some point throughout the novel, every character
contemplates their death and eventually comes to terms with it. Along with thinking of the deaths of
themselves, each character also ponders of the deaths of their loved ones. However, the way each
character views death and shapes their attitudes towards it are different. For instance, Maria thinks of
herself and Robert Jordan as one, and when she thinks of his or her death, she becomes set on the fact
that if one of them dies, so should the other. Hemingway uses Maria s way of thinking to foreshadow
how death permeates his characters in the novel, but facing death for Maria is unbearable due to her
love for Robert Jordan. On the other hand, Robert Jordan views death as the greatest gift that he had,
the talent that fitted him for war; that ability not to ignore but to despise whatever bad ending there
could be (Hemingway 393). Robert Jordan represents death in another means. Death is upon him, but

political, economic and social impacts also play key roles. The essay will review the political situation
throughout the campaign. The military impact of the bombing is then analysed followed by the
economic and social costs. The essay will evaluate the bombing campaign s contribution to the overall

This was because the bombing was not accurate enough in order to cause much damage to the targeted
areas. This meant that the repair rate for the German economy far outstripped the destruction rate
caused by the Allied bombs. However, this changed when Churchill ordered an offensive specifically
targeting industrial areas in the Summer of 1940. The directive of the campaign was to bring about the
progressive destruction and dislocation of the military, industrial and economic system . That meant
that Bomber Command s main focus was the industrial and economic centres of Germany. Once the
Allies where able to bring effective attacks against industrial areas, the Germans where unable to
repair all the damaged infrastructure in a timely manner. This tactic of attacking economic areas came
to the fore with the Operation Gomorrah , the attack on Hamburg that caused citywide devastation.
The German Armaments Minister Speer said, six more Hamburgs will end the war. That statement
shows that by July 1943, the German economy was already feeling the strain from near continuous
bombing raids. Steel production fell by 200,000 tons in the second quarter of 1943. After the

In the 20th Century there was many important people who changed the way the America is today.
John Pierpont Morgan once said, If you have to ask how much it costs, you can t afford it. It is

much money. J.P. Morgan was a significant figure in America s 20th Century because of his role in

John Scopes Trial Analysis
The Scopes Trial, a Dayton, Tennessee legal case involving the teaching of evolution within the public

overruling opinion of the majority. The preeminent purpose of the case was to decide not only the fate
of an evolution theory teacher by the name of John Scopes, but also to decide if fundamentalists or
modernists would rule American culture and education. An object of profound publicity, the trial was

Bryan had disregarded them and explained that he would answer questions only under the
circumstance that he could ask questions as well. Bryan had a lengthy list of inquisitions for Darrow
and supporting evolutionists; essential among these questions, he would demand explanation about the
missing evidence in fossil documentation. According to Bryan, genuine science cannot be proven true
until it is classified by legitimate knowledge, thus supporting his claim that the theory of evolution
cannot be veritable science since it is merely a string of theories and assumptions. Bryan intended to
express this point in his final argument in the trial. More precariously, he accentuated the missing
relations between humans and their supposed arthropod ancestors, because there are no tangible links
between them. Henry Fairfield, President of the American Museum of Natural History, came to Bryan
with so called evidence of horse and human evolution in 1922. In this confrontation with Bryan,
Fairfield explained that evidence for humanistic development as abundant as that of horse evolution
had not yet been discovered, but the very recent discovery of Tertiary man...constitutes the most

Tying Homer s Iliad to Virgil s Aeneid Through the Theme...
Warfare is a common thread that ties Homer s Iliad to Virgil s Aeneid. However, the way warfare is
treated in the two epics is different. This can be attributed to many factors including the time between
the composition of the pieces, the fact that pieces were written by different authors, and the fact that
the pieces were written in different places. We can use these pieces to get a view of what the society
that produced them thought about war and how the view of war changed as time went on in the
ancient world. The Iliad is a poem of war. The entire narrative takes place at or near a battlefield with
men who had been fighting a seemingly never ending war for over nine years, and portrays many

An example of this is in Book IV when Ajax kills Simoisius. Homer says Telamonian Ajax struck
Anthemion s son, the hardy stripling Simoisius, still unwed... His mother had borne him along the
Simois banks when she trailed her parents down the slopes of Ida to tend their flocks, and so they
called him Simoisius. (4.547 51) In a war that has lasted nine years where untold numbers of men
have died, why would Homer take such care to tell his audience about someone like Simoisius?
Perhaps because if the listener knows something about the vanquished opponent, that gives more glory
to the conquering hero. Another reason could be that for the vanquished in death they receive some
measure of glory for fighting bravely against a famous hero like Ajax. Another place we see this
emphasis on glory when Hector returns to Troy in Book VI. Hector s wife Andromache begs him to
take his armies and make his stand near a fig tree close to the walls of Troy.(6.511 20) While
Andromache s advice may be tactically sound, Hector refuses her by saying I ve learned it all too well.
To stand up bravely, always to fight in the front ranks of Trojan soldiers, winning my father great
glory, glory for myself. (6.527 29) The overwhelming desire for glory takes precedence over proper
military tactics in this situation. While Homer gives great weight to the

High School Homework
Introduction
Traditionally, a high school schedule consists of seven or eight class periods, each one lasting 45 to 50
minutes. Since 1964, when Joliet West High School opened its doors, it has used a traditional seven to
eight period school day. 53 years later, problems are starting to arise with how the school day is laid
out. Recently, students are becoming more involved in sports, jobs, and extracurricular activities, and
the traditional schedule is making it harder for students to keep up with the work from seven different
classes. This task is especially difficult for students in honors and AP classes.
According to Allie Bidwell, an education reporter for U.S. World and News Report, the average high
school students spends about eighteen hours a week on homework. That works out to be about four
hours every night. In my experience, I average around two hours of homework every night, still a long
time spent on homework. At Joliet West, students are released from school at 3:15; if they go home
and start their homework right away, all their homework could be completed by eight o clock.
However, a majority of students do not have the luxury of having all night to work on homework.
With about half of students participating in a sport, many have practice after school until six o clock.
This pushes back their night, so instead of getting done with homework at eight, they will not finish
until ten o clock. A large portion of high school students experience this

Play Critique Of Man And Superman By George Bernard Shaw
Man and Superman Play Critique
Man and Superman, written by George Bernard Shaw, is a comedy of ideas which was based in late
19th century London. The play primarily revolves around John Tanner. It begins as news arrives of the
death of Mr. Whitefield, who is Ann s father. The first dilemma begins as Mr. Ramsden and Jack argue
over who will care for Ann and her sister and who will eventually marry Ann. There is also the
problem that comes with Violet, as she is secretly married and pregnant. Later in the play, Jack
encounters the famous womanizer Don Juan in a dream, who he confers with about the idea of
marriage. Throughout the duration of the play, the viewer is able to dissect the playwright s mind and
the directors and actors choices.
The play focuses on the idea of Ubermensch , which is German for superman . Shaw gives his
Ubermensch qualities such as superior intellect, intuition, and self defined virtues. The theme of the
play is the barriers that the evolution of the superman encounters, one of which according to Shaw is
marriage. The institution of marriage is a barrier as it strengthens the division of social classes and
hinders copulation. It was also heavily influenced by power and property acquisition. It is criticized in
the play as Violet keeps her marriage a secret from her family and others because her husband is of a
lesser social class. Furthermore, the inclusion of the Don Juan dream that Jack encounters is also
criticism as Don Juan tells Jack that

Essay on The American Woman Vs. the Chinese Woman
Across cultures, many times similarities lay within them that go unnoticed. It is true that obvious
differences set them apart; but if a closer look is taken, it is surprising what can be found. The Chinese
culture is obviously different from the American culture, but underneath the surface there are
similarities. One of them is how the treatment of women has evolved and changed. Anti feminism in
China has been present since ancient times, and has just recently decreased. Anti feminism in America
has never been as severe as it was in China; however, instead of the value of women gradually
increasing over the years it has reversed. The value of women in America has decreased. There are

There is nothing about it that shows any respect toward the woman, nor is there any sign of awe or

This is where the anti feminism in China began, and where the anti feminism in America was yet to
exist.
As time carries on, America enters the Neolithic Period and women s worth decreases very rapidly.
The western people begin to settle in cities and form villages, and the men of the time say that
anything outside of the house is too dangerous. At this point, all the women stay inside the villages
and tend to the domestic part of life staying home to do the cooking, cleaning, sewing, raise the
children, prepare anything the men needed. At this point, the two culture s views on women are very
similar. In America, as was already explained, men were becoming more valuable than women; and in
China, the same thing can be seen as the men are given the privileges of becoming emperors or
merchants, or even knight errants if they so choose. At the same time, the women in China are
supposed to be submissive and always at the beck and call of their husband or lover. In the story, The

When Looking At A Primary Source, The Analyzer Must Take
When looking at a primary source, the analyzer must take into consideration several components that
can help him or her narrow down their inferences about the source. The first thing to analyze in depth
is the Authorship. This means to look specifically at the topics addressed and the natural biases that
are relevant in the work. The tone in the subject matter is also important to see how strongly the
source may show content or resent towards a specific topic. Even certain writing styles can help
decipher an era, culture or even an individual. The specific word syntax leads to how an analyzer
would discover the purpose or rationale for the primary source. Purpose and rationale are huge parts of
understanding a source and the time period ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Obviously looking at this, the topic is based around religion or its roots are based in religion. Naturally
there is a desire to find out which religion. Now previously there are references to God and Christ, so

should be exercised in a Christian and brotherly fashion . The author is very religious and now there is
clear evidence that he is a Christian. This along with all of the authors religious vocabulary helps
define the author as a very religious human. The author uses the nature of religion to mediate the issue
at hand. The issue is not religion because in the third article the author exclaims Christ has delivered
and redeemed us all . Although religion is strongly talked about it is not the dissenting issue because
the author sees that who the author is dissenting from is still the son of the same God. The issue lies in
a power struggle, mainly an economic one. In the same article the author says it is consistent with
Scripture that we should be free and wish to be so. Not that we would wish to be absolutely free and

AP Seminar
Of the 52 million schoolchildren in America, fewer than 8 million attend private schools (Lacayo).
Background
Of about 30 cities that supply private school vouchers, only two are tax funded (Lacayo). Background
Since 1992, forty two states and the District of Columbia have enacted legislation for charter schools
(Green 303). Background
Charter schools differ from public because private organizations rather than the government govern
those (Green 304). Background
Overall, the goal of making more school choices available is to improve the quality of education and,
in turn, improve the students performance (Carrasco 125). Background
In 2005, Ohio began a program that gave vouchers to kids ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
and have less available for academic purposes (Foster 20). Public is better
One collection of 90 different studies, however, concluded that charter schools fare about the same or
worse compared to public schools (Judson 256). Public is better
Measuring student achievement can be difficult because no source of information is strongly accurate.
Even standardized testing, which is widely considered a good source, cannot take into account those
who struggle with that type of assessment. In addition, they cannot be used when looking at their
school s impact, because their previous schools have effects on their learning as well (Stevans 171).
Difficulties
It cannot be verified either way whether improvements in school performance are due to additional
funding or to a more efficient use of available funds (Palardy 279). Difficulties
When certain schools, usually charter and private, are presented as better options than public schools,
it hurts the public schools chances of growing and improving (Foster 19).

The Bible
And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men come to call thee, rise up, and go
with them; but yet the word which I shall say unto thee, that shalt thou do. And Balaam rose up in the
morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab.
Two things we must understand here. God told Balaam to go only if the elders came to him. Balaam
disobeyed this command and pursued them. There is more to this scenario, however.
When the Lord told Balaam to go with the men if they came to him in verse 20, the word with in the
Hebrew text is erte and means nearness, by, or among. However, in verse 21, Balaam saddled his ass,
and went with the princes of Moab. The word with here in Hebrew is ernt, and is an ... Show more

At this point, one might wonder who the real donkey was. The ass clearly saw the angel and wanted to
avoid its wrath. Balaam, on the other hand, rushed blindly towards judgment, while angrily whipping
the poor ass for her stubbornness.
And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either
to the right hand or to the left. And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she fell down under
Balaam: and Balaam s anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff.
Balaam s ass had more spiritual discernment than her master. Having seen the angel once again, she
collapsed to the saving of the prophet s life.
And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee,
that thou hast smitten me these three times? And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked
me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill thee. And the ass said unto
Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? was I
ever wont to do so unto thee? and he said, Nay.
Two animals spoke in scripture: the serpent and Balaam s donkey. The first used its voice to seduce
Eve, but the second used her voice to save its greed driven master from divine destruction. Bible

Essay Armor of Ancient Rome
Armor of Ancient Rome Ancient Rome expended a great deal of economic resources and effort upon
conquest and expansion through military means. The role of armor was fundamental in this expansion
as it played a significant role in the success of the Roman armies on the battlefield. There were three
common requirements for armor construction throughout its history: The first was that armor had to be
flexible enough to allow the wearer freedom of movement; second, it also had to be lightweight
enough to be worn without tiring the wearer while providing protection against opponents weapons;
and third, armor had to be cost effective. These three aspects influenced the evolution of Roman
cuirass (lorica) design throughout Rome s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Further reorganization occurred after the civil war of A.D.69, when the victorious Flavian dynasty
dispersed disloyal units. As the Empire s expansion slowed, permanent borders were established.
Auxiliaries patrolled the borders and legionnaires were stationed within the frontiers to act as a
strategic reserve and intimidate potentially rebellious provinces. The army can be divided into two
distinct parts: the legion and the auxiliary ( auxilia), with a marked social division existing between
the two. Only Roman citizens could become legionnaires, while auxilia were composed of non
citizens recruited from Rome s client states and tribes. These legions were supported by the non
citizen auxilia consisting of infantry cohorts and cavalry (alae). A legion consisted of around 5,000
men which were mostly heavy foot soldiers. However, it is only possible to attempt a rough estimate
of the men who constituted a legion. It has been estimated that the total number of Roman troops,
including legions and auxilia, numbered more than 300,000 during the first century A.D. It has also
been assumed that the legionary and auxiliary troops were equipped differently. This notion is based
on evidence from a single source, Trajan s column, which shows clear distinctions between legionary
and auxiliary equipment. The early view put forward by historians such as Webster was that the
equipment issued to legionnaires was remarkably uniform throughout the

Freakonomics Chapter 1 Summary
Freakonomics discusses odd questions that relate together. These were weird to consider at first. After
reading the text and seeing what the relationships these odd questions have in common, it is very
interesting. Unfortunately, most of the practices that the chapters refer to are not how God intended for
us to behave and live.
In the first Chapter of Freakonomics, it discusses what Schoolteachers and Sumo Wrestlers have in
common. The thing that they have in common is cheating. I never knew that sumo wrestlers could
cheat. I guess they could if they wanted to throw a win. Shocking though, is that is exactly what they
do. They lose on purpose. They lie. One of the very Ten Commandments that we are to follow every
day states that we are not to lie. Ironically enough, so do some schoolteachers cheat to have their
teaching abilities look a lot better. They change the grades that their students get on tests to ... Show

I couldn t figure it out, but the answer is as simple as having knowledge of information that others do
not know. Real Estate agents can be schemers when it comes to the knowledge of the real estate
market. They have a pretty good idea of how much a house will be worth. They will try to talk clients
into selling their houses at a lower price in order to make money quicker by having a quicker
turnaround time. The findings even showed that agents would keep their house on the market of an
average of 3 weeks longer than a non real estate agents house (Levitt Dubner, 2005). Real estate
agents will also make a house sound better by specific terms that they use when listing it. They try to
make it sound better than it is, but other real estate agents know what they mean. The consumers and
sellers do not know. This is deceiving and not how God wants people to behave when they are
supposed to be helping others. Just as 1 Corinthians 6:8 9

Most Powerful Weapon Ever Created By Austin Perkins
Austin Perkins Ever since man has come into existence we have killed with rocks, spears, clubs,
knifes, swords, arrows, cannons, guns and, unfortunately, bombs. In 2077 man unleashed the full force
of the most powerful weapon ever created, a hydrogen bomb nicknamed the Tsar Bomba, a hydrogen
bomb with 50 megatons of explosive power. 1 megaton is equal to a million tons of TNT; the Little
Boy that was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 was only a mere .02. The fallout of such a
weapon nearly destroyed the world we lived in, but didn t end it. In the beginning, thousands were
able to survive by relocating to underground shelters called vaults. When they finally came out, there
was nothing but the apocalyptic wastes for them to see. Buildings were demolished, the landscape was
scorched, the water was undrinkable, and the creatures were unholy. When Hell s gates opened there
was one vault, however, that kept its gates closed. Vault 101 kept its giant metal door closed and never
let anyone in or out. Inside were the inhabitants who were all looked over by an Overseer, who could
be a mayor in some vaults or a god in others. They control everything in the vaults from what foods
you eat to what you will do in the future. Everyone knows each other in a vault and everyone has a
role to play, whether that role is a doctor or a tattoo artist. The one thing they all have in common is
that they were born in the vault, lived in the vault, and eventually will die in the vault. That

The Role Of Men And Women By Rousseau
One of the Western writers who support this gender oppressive system is Rousseau. For Rousseau,
everything man and woman have in common belongs to the species, and everything which
distinguishes them belongs to the sex [21]. According to him, men and women are not equal. He
writes in his famous passage in Emile:
In what they have in common, they are equal. Where they differ, they are not comparable. A perfect
woman and a perfect man ought not to resemble each other in mind any more than in looks, and
perfection is not susceptible of more or less. In the union of the sexes, each contributes equally to the
common aim, but not in the same way. From this diversity arises the first assignable difference in the
moral relations of the two sexes.(emile)
Rousseau believed that woman is created be in subjection to a man, and his judgment, and she will
never be free to set her own opinion above his. As men and women are not, and should not be equal, it
follows that, axiomatically, they should not have the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Neither had it previously been important for the lowest classes, who ground out subsistence in sites of
production, where a distinction between public and private was still rudimentary. (mohja 140))
Obviously, Rousseau s thoughts on Western women, and their new home, were affected by the model
of the passive secluded Muslim woman and her harem. (mohja) Rousseau s dream of domesticity
depends on the harem slave, (mohja) as every domestic issue, he prescribed in his book, from the
kitchen garden to breastfeeding (Emile, IV, 346) was meant to keep women in that sanctum
(mohja).Like the harem, this middle class home, which presupposes privacy, is completely separated
from the economic life the peasant side and the political life the aristocratic

Witchcraft Hysteria Of Salem, Massachusetts
When one thinks of the word witch today, one pictures a withered old crone from fairytales or a
Halloween costume. In short, people associate a witch immediately with fiction. However, in Europe,
witches were a very real threat. Between 1400 and 1800, historians estimate that upwards of 50,000
people were killed after being convicted as witches in Europe (Give Me Liberty, p. 109). As colonists
settled in North America, they not only brought new customs, plants, animals, and diseases, they
brought their superstitions. Witch executions were relatively rare in America, that is, until the 150
convictions and 19 executions of witches that took place in Salem, Massachusetts beginning in 1691
(Orr, September 30, 2015). Though the causes of the mania are still hotly debated even today, the
primary cause of the witchcraft hysteria that captivated Salem, Massachusetts in the 1690 s was
socioeconomic tensions within the community. The town of Salem was actually split up into two
distinctly separate settlements. The village of Salem was characterized by farmers who depended
heavily, if not exclusively, on agriculture for their livelihoods. The town of Salem, as it was situated
on the water, was comprised primarily of well off merchants. The two technically made up the same
town, but it was as if there was a boundary line separating them. This divide was not just one of
housing; the incomes of the village and the town were vastly different. The town inhabitants made
much more money

Dbq Loyalists Essay
Loyalists In between 1760 and 1800, conflict ensued between Great Britain and the American
colonies, now the United States. Because of certain events and documents, those who had not chosen a
side would have benefitted more if indecisive individuals become loyal to the British crown. Those
who obeyed to Great Britain were known as loyalists, or, according to the DBQ Theme assignment,
Tories. The unsure colonists would benefit more if converting to loyalists because of Great Britain s
power and strength, economic superiority, and that the patriots are of barbaric and violent nature. Also,
the patriots were not ready to start a revolution even though they believed the opposite. Great Britain
was a powerful and strong nation during the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Document 4 includes a majority of facts relating to the economic advantage that Great Britain has.
Two decent examples that Document 4 gives are, Value of the dollar dropped throughout the war, and,
Dollar lost 90% of its value by 1779. The dollar that is being referred to is the Continental Dollar.
Furthermore, at around 1781, it can be inferred that the Continental Dollar completely lost its value as
Document 4 states, By 1781 only hard money (gold, silver) used in U.S. markets. Great Britain,
however, has a more stable economy without needing to resort to metals, and with what Document 4
includes, Well established system of taxation and finance. This compares to the loss of value
throughout the Revolutionary War. Britain exercises its economic strength by, from what the article
states, Britain spent 4.5 million pounds on Hessians alone (Doc 4). Almost 5 million pounds in the
1770s is still a lot of money compared to modern day Britain s economy. Britain, with the evidence of
hiring Hessians, is able to financially support an army unlike the United States where a document
confirms, ...but most are wretchedly clothed... (Doc 5). The colonies have a more inferior economy
based off of the history of events and documented

Wheatley was born in West Africa in about 1753, and she was kidnapped and enslaved in Boston, Massachusetts in 1761. In this poem, Wheatley looks at slavery as freedom from religious bondage which shows her openmindeness. She expresses her feelings about her revelation of Christianity through symbolism, theme , and figurative language. • 4. The Beatitudes Is Not Only A Blessing The Beatitudes may appear as if they are merely a simple arrangement of blessings, but in reality they are full of meaning and beyond any ordinary passage in the Bible. Every line in the Beatitudes is not only a blessing, but a call for action directed towards the people of Israel. The passage seems to focus on Jesus as he speaks to his disciples and the crowd listening about how they could achieve the righteousness that will create the foundation of Heaven. He is not simply encouraging people to live morally and repent so that they will be welcome into the Kingdom of God. He is urging them to learn how to live happily and spread their generosity to others so that they will feel more connected to God. Jesus seems to direct most of the Beatitudes towards his disciples, who represent a new and reborn Israel that harbors no hesitation to put their faith in God, while the crowd that listens intently to Jesus s words are the potential that Israel has to become virtuous. The Beatitudes are the guidelines that Israelites must follow so that they may live ethical and pure lives. The Beatitudes are much more allegorical than literal. They are written instructions that the Israelites are required to follow if they wish to live wholeheartedly, rather than a way to act in order to be accepted by God and welcomed into Heaven. For instance, the first line in the Beatitudes, Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted (Matthew 5:4) depicts those who are grateful for Jesus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Housing and transportation can help lead to a high quality of life, for example, by being close to work, having large green spaces or living in a walkable neighbourhood lead to a healthier life. As stated in the textbook when a person is deprived of these factors they are living in layers of interrelated disadvantages that leads to poor health, unemployment, high stress and crime. Both housing and transportation are necessary in today s Canadian society, where people have to live at the outskirts of cities in order to find affordable housing, due to gentrification in downtown cores which has to lead to housing to be expensive. ... The historical theme of Work, Exchange, and Technology relates to the process of outsourcing, Laissez faire economics, the Bracero program, and the Manhattan Project. Each of these terms relates to the development of the American economy based on changes to agriculture, commerce, and manufacturing. To start with, the process of outsourcing involves obtaining services or products from an outside source in order to reduce the cost of that service or product. By taking advantage of this process, the economy of the United States saw an increase as production prices decreased. Second, during Laissez faire economics, the government allows an industry to be free of state interventions. This kept industries free from government tariffs or monopolies, ... The event that destroyed the small island of Galveston, the Galveston Hurricane, had many social, political, and economic impacts that made this storm life changing. The people of Galveston lost almost everything they had; everything was nearly ruined. • 8. Comparison Of Adam Bede And Goblin Market Comparing George Eliot s Adam Bede and Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market George Eliot s Adam Bede offers a realistic and highly detailed look into the everyday life of ordinary people in rural Treddleston. Although the characters are fictional, several of them are based upon people Eliot knew or knew of, which adds to the realism. As she delightedly observes and describes the intricacies of the natural, ordinary world, Eliot pays attention to human nature, applying keen psychological insight to characters thoughts, choices, and actions. Eliot seems to understand that certain people are a certain way, and she encourages her reader to gently evaluate, rather than hastily judge, both her characters and people in general. Within the ... Beautiful, kitten like Hetty is so caught up in her appearance and in the way she is certain others perceive her that she is barely affected by the serious and often grave situations others are experiencing. In fact, after discovering that Adam s father had died, Hetty was thinking a great deal more of the looks Captain Donnithorne had cast at her than of Adam and his troubles (Eliot 96). It is not that Hetty is deliberately cruel or uncaring, but admiring glances from a handsome young gentleman, with white hands...and wealth and grandeur immeasurable...set poor Hetty s heart vibrating, and playing its little foolish tunes over and over again (Eliot 96). Eliot, though clearly disapproving of Hetty s foolish vanity, nonetheless encourages her reader to be understanding of the young girl. She directly addresses the reader as she accounts for Hetty s self centredness: We must learn to accommodate ourselves to the discovery that some of those commonly fashioned instruments called human souls have only a very limited range of music, and will not vibrate in the least under a touch that fills others with tremulous rapture or quivering agony. • 10. Devil Facial Tumour Disease Case Study Introduction: What is Tasmanian Devil Facial Tumour Disease?  Identified in 1996 the Tasmanian Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD) is the growth of fatal tumours on the faces of Tasmanian Devils (Sarcophilus harrisii), specifically the mouth and teeth. (Hamede RK, McCallum H Jones M, 2013)  Affecting the largest carnivorous marsupial alive (Beeton N McCallum H, 2011) the tumour cells are transmitted through the biting of one Devil to another either in attack to access food first, or predominantly as part of mating. Genetic Research on the Histocompatibility Complex and Telomeres The DFTD tumour is accepted to be clonal, originating from a single Schwann cell that did not dye in the Devil it first infected rather spreading through the species. It would also aid in law enforcement s ability to address hate crimes. For one, with the bill, they would have access to information that was never available before. This could help in both predicting future crimes, as well as addressing them where they are most prominent. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the bias was apparent through his speech, it was made provable through the young men s actions in which he inclined. But this is where hate crime statues become tricky, and face most opposition. Those against hate crime statutes argue just that, of one s rights being violated if a penalty enhancement is enforced. Those in opposition, however, would eventually be out reasoned; much thanks to this case in particular. What the ruling brought to light was ideals and reason that are still in place today surrounding hate crime laws. One, being the public display of the serious nature in which these crimes present, and the repercussions that follow if committed. Just as the HCSA intended to bring exposure to such acts, this case would send a similar message in that acts of this nature will not be tolerated. If committed, they are subject to a greater penalty. Which is the other strongpoint of this case. The ruling proved, through court of law, that an act s penalty can be constitutionally enhanced. • 13. Use Of Pinctuations In A Midsummer Night s Dream By... We live in a world of plummeting punctuation standards according to Ms.Truss. Many people don t take punctuation seriously. Many people think it s useless. There are many punctuation mistakes, no matter where one looks. Eats, Shoots, and Leaves is about how careless many people are with the use of punctuations and why they are very important to modern day English. She shows how punctuations were used correctly and incorrectly in older literature pieces. She gives a list of how to correctly use commas, exclamation points, etc. She also references other punctuation/grammatical books. Unlike many of Shakespeare s pieces, Eats, Shoots, and Leaves is against the punctuation Shakespeare used in his writing. Punctuation can change a sentence drastically. For example We do not come as minding to content you, our true intent is. All for your delight we are not here. William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night s Dream,Act V, scene i. This sentence has many punctuation errors. Shakespeare writes our true intent is. All for your delight instead of putting a comma he uses a period, this makes the text dramatic, but punctually incorrect.Since Shakespeare has authority in the literature community, he was idolized for the punctuation error. Many people like Shakespeare deliberately defied punctuations and the writing was a success. A population of white tailed deer that was exceeding an estimated 100 individual animals per square mile was over browsing the vegetation. Through this alternative the goals would be meet in a relatively short time frame at a cost between $738,600 and $941,100. The final alternative, alternative D also continued alternative A with the combination of sharpshooting, euthanization, and reproduction control. Alternative D would meet the goals of the plan in a similar time frame as alternative C with a cost of between $1.4 and $1.6 million. Rejected alternatives: Several alternatives were rejected for various reasons. The first rejected alternative was a managed hunt, for the need of legislation change in congress to allow a hunt on NPS land and possible cost and safety issues. We saw a great opportunity for me to come to Capitol Hill and draw attention to some of the inadequate animal welfare laws (Vick). Vick was eight years old when he saw his first dog fight. Also, protesters in Philadelphia didn t want the Eagles to sign quarterback Michael Vick, because he was a convicted felon ( Protester Again ). Vick new this and used it as fuel to work as hard as he could on and off the field to prove those people wrong. Vick wanted people to know that he was not only going to talk the talk, but he was going to walk the walk as well (Vick). One night, after Vick had a meeting with James Dubose, who was producing a documentary on him, a reporter/sports writer followed him onto the elevator. He asked Vick what he ate, if he had any drinks, and who he was talking to. He did this all to try to expose him violating his probation (Vick). Vick was disturbed by this, because it meant that some people hated him so much that they would go that far out of their way just to get rid of him. Christian Philosophy of Education Essay Christian Philosophy of Education As we go through our day by day lives in a very secular world, I believe it is very easy to question ourselves as Christian educators. We ask ourselves if we are doing our jobs exactly to God s calling. Are we striving to teach the truth? And with that, what is truth? According to Gaebelein in his book The Pattern of God s Truth, All truth is God s truth. As educators we are called upon to cultivate Christlike minds (Moreland). This is quite the task, especially given our surrounding circumstances and constant secular environment. Not only are we, as educators surrounded by this secularism, but our young, adolescent students are as well. So, how do we accomplish such as task of guiding ... True teaching is a sharing of realities, likening the teaching process and weaving connections between their teachings and understandings themselves and the world around them. If we do not make connections for the students to the world around them, many times these precious gifts graced upon them will be overlooked or passed by because the young minds may not be able to recognize them. Some areas of observation might be seen as open doors to see or perceive and understand something of God and His motion as reflected through the created world and the Bible. Other areas might be seen as open doors to respond, apply, express and practice in ways that are consistent with biblical values. When these areas are discovered and embraced, many times they can address the major developmental needs in the spiritual, intellectual, physical, social, and emotional realms of the student s life. Identifying these areas is helping the students begin their walk with the Lord and their own calling. The teaching learning environment should be receptive to the nature of human nature as it was originally created in the image of God. This means it should acknowledge students as creatures of God (again, not simply as subjects in a room) by engaging and stimulating the full ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Study Of African History Many people think slavery happened after a group of explores from Portuguese started ring the coast of West Africa, but little do they know African Americans were trading themselves way before then. Portuguese explorer Prince Henry, known as the navigator, was the first European to methodically explore Africa and the oceanic to the Indies.[1] Many Europeans thought that Africa s history was not important. They argued that Africans were inferior to Europeans and they used this to help justify slavery. However, the reality was very different. A study of African history shows that Africa was by no means inferior to Europe. As you can see below, the people who suffered the most from the transatlantic slave trade were civilized, organised and technologically advanced peoples, long before the arrival of European slavers, trying to suggest they were backward peoples.[2] A major advance was the introduction of the caravel in the mid 15th century, a small ship able to sail windward more than any other in Europe at the time. Evolved from fishing ships designs, they were the first that could leave the coastal cabotage navigation and sail safely on the open. For celestial navigation the Portuguese used the Ephemerides, which experienced a remarkable diffusion in the 15th century. They were astronomical charts plotting the location of the stars over a distinct period of time. These charts revolutionized navigation, allowing to calculating latitude. Using the caravel, ... Law Enforcement Lessons Learned Essay One of the the best lessons learned from history for today s practice of law enforcement intelligence is the necessity of obeying the law and procedures as in addition to corruption and a lack of incentive to do things by the book many officers lacked the wherewithal to make a difference in their jurisdiction. After much public outcry we are now able rely more on today s law enforcement as they are placed under strict management and are regularly evaluated to ensure consistency and reduce bias from the system. Unfortunately it takes a string of tragedies that could have been prevented through threat based intelligence prompt more security policies to be passed, but at least now many law enforcement departments have more resources they use to guide them. Lastly is the lesson about sharing intelligence, many law enforcement departments were hesitant to share classified information as it would perhaps add likely so much more to their already stressful workload and the possible repercussions of displaying evidence of misidentification and mismanagement. However in the wake of past tragedies that resulted from the failure to provide the intelligence it had become more apparent that it would be in everyone s best interest to open up more channels of communication. • 22. Love And Marriage In Pride And Prejudice And Bridget... ESSAY The context of a novel or film can greatly affect the values of society through the key concepts of love and marriage, and feminine appearance of a woman. We can clearly observe the comparisons of Jane Austen s 1813 novel Pride and Prejudice to Sharon Maguire s 1997 film Bridget Jone s Diary. The novel Pride and Prejudice was composed in the Regency period where marriage was vitally important for a woman as it meant a financially stable future, and usually not based on love, whereas Bridget Jones Diary set in a contemporary society where woman married for love and were economically independent. However, both text explores similar aspects where both heroine challenges the expectations of women and both are not constrained by the strict social conformity of a woman. To marry a wealthy man was the only option for women to guarantee a life without economic concerns and this is explored in the opening line of It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must in want of a wife where Jane Austen uses verbal irony as it is not the man seeking a woman, but the other way around. Woman could only consider marrying a man if he is considered as the rightful property . By analyzing this dialogue, it becomes apparent that Petruchio only cares about wealth and power, no matter how shrewish and unattractive his future wife may be. This seals the fact that Petruchio does not love Katherine at all, as clearly, there are seemingly more important things to him than celebrating his own marriage. Hence, Petruchio s corruption for wealth is the only factor that drives him to marrying Katherine, as he doesn t actually care about Katherine herself. Finally, the reason why Petruchio is able to complete his plans is because of his audacious nature. The framers of the Constitution were wary of ceding too much power to the federal government. They rightly believed many local citizens would never make it to the capital but would interact with local government, so the power should be kept at the most local level possible. It was impossible to foresee in 1791 a world with video conferencing, 24 hr news and the ability to fly around the world within 36 hours. Because of the world we live in, I believe it is more necessary to make the Constitution and the Bill of Rights the foundational laws of the land. In 1833, the Supreme Court ruled in Barron v. Baltimore that the Bill of rights was written out of fear by the Antifederalist to constrain the federal government. We have given the individual States the power to make laws that conflict and contradict with Federal law, the laws of other states and national norms. It is these contradictions that allowed the Jim Crow laws and the doctrine of Separate but Equal to flourish in the aftermath of the Civil War. I believe that the law should be formulated at the highest level and filter down to the lowest. The referee then waved his yellow rag and called un sportsman like conduct for Michael team, despite the fact that they did not do anything wrong. This can be attributed to many factors including the time between the composition of the pieces, the fact that pieces were written by different authors, and the fact that the pieces were written in different places. We can use these pieces to get a view of what the society that produced them thought about war and how the view of war changed as time went on in the ancient world. The Iliad is a poem of war. The entire narrative takes place at or near a battlefield with men who had been fighting a seemingly never ending war for over nine years, and portrays many many battles great and small. At the ... His mother had borne him along the Simois banks when she trailed her parents down the slopes of Ida to tend their flocks, and so they called him Simoisius. (4.547 51) In a war that has lasted nine years where untold numbers of men have died, why would Homer take such care to tell his audience about someone like Simoisius? Perhaps because if the listener knows something about the vanquished opponent, that gives more glory to the conquering hero. Another reason could be that for the vanquished in death they receive some measure of glory for fighting bravely against a famous hero like Ajax. Another place we see this emphasis on glory when Hector returns to Troy in Book VI. Hector s wife Andromache begs him to take his armies and make his stand near a fig tree close to the walls of Troy.(6.511 20) While Andromache s advice may be tactically sound, Hector refuses her by saying I ve learned it all too well. To stand up bravely, always to fight in the front ranks of Trojan soldiers, winning my father great glory, glory for myself. • 38. High School Homework Introduction Traditionally, a high school schedule consists of seven or eight class periods, each one lasting 45 to 50 minutes. Since 1964, when Joliet West High School opened its doors, it has used a traditional seven to eight period school day. 53 years later, problems are starting to arise with how the school day is laid out. Recently, students are becoming more involved in sports, jobs, and extracurricular activities, and the traditional schedule is making it harder for students to keep up with the work from seven different classes. This task is especially difficult for students in honors and AP classes. According to Allie Bidwell, an education reporter for U.S. World and News Report, the average high school students spends about eighteen hours a week on homework. That works out to be about four hours every night. In my experience, I average around two hours of homework every night, still a long time spent on homework. At Joliet West, students are released from school at 3:15; if they go home and start their homework right away, all their homework could be completed by eight o clock. However, a majority of students do not have the luxury of having all night to work on homework. With about half of students participating in a sport, many have practice after school until six o clock. This pushes back their night, so instead of getting done with homework at eight, they will not finish until ten o clock. A large portion of high school students experience this ... • 39. Play Critique Of Man And Superman By George Bernard Shaw Man and Superman Play Critique Man and Superman, written by George Bernard Shaw, is a comedy of ideas which was based in late 19th century London. The play primarily revolves around John Tanner. It begins as news arrives of the death of Mr. Whitefield, who is Ann s father. The first dilemma begins as Mr. Ramsden and Jack argue over who will care for Ann and her sister and who will eventually marry Ann. There is also the problem that comes with Violet, as she is secretly married and pregnant. Later in the play, Jack encounters the famous womanizer Don Juan in a dream, who he confers with about the idea of marriage. Throughout the duration of the play, the viewer is able to dissect the playwright s mind and the directors and actors choices. The play focuses on the idea of Ubermensch , which is German for superman . Shaw gives his Ubermensch qualities such as superior intellect, intuition, and self defined virtues. The theme of the play is the barriers that the evolution of the superman encounters, one of which according to Shaw is marriage. The institution of marriage is a barrier as it strengthens the division of social classes and hinders copulation. It was also heavily influenced by power and property acquisition. It is criticized in the play as Violet keeps her marriage a secret from her family and others because her husband is of a lesser social class. Furthermore, the inclusion of the Don Juan dream that Jack encounters is also criticism as Don Juan tells Jack that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is true that obvious differences set them apart; but if a closer look is taken, it is surprising what can be found. The Chinese culture is obviously different from the American culture, but underneath the surface there are similarities. One of them is how the treatment of women has evolved and changed. Anti feminism in China has been present since ancient times, and has just recently decreased. Anti feminism in America has never been as severe as it was in China; however, instead of the value of women gradually increasing over the years it has reversed. This is where the anti feminism in China began, and where the anti feminism in America was yet to exist. As time carries on, America enters the Neolithic Period and women s worth decreases very rapidly. The western people begin to settle in cities and form villages, and the men of the time say that anything outside of the house is too dangerous. At this point, all the women stay inside the villages and tend to the domestic part of life staying home to do the cooking, cleaning, sewing, raise the children, prepare anything the men needed. At this point, the two culture s views on women are very similar. In America, as was already explained, men were becoming more valuable than women; and in China, the same thing can be seen as the men are given the privileges of becoming emperors or merchants, or even knight errants if they so choose. At the same time, the women in China are supposed to be submissive and always at the beck and call of their husband or lover. When Looking At A Primary Source, The Analyzer Must Take When looking at a primary source, the analyzer must take into consideration several components that can help him or her narrow down their inferences about the source. The first thing to analyze in depth is the Authorship. This means to look specifically at the topics addressed and the natural biases that are relevant in the work. The tone in the subject matter is also important to see how strongly the source may show content or resent towards a specific topic. Even certain writing styles can help decipher an era, culture or even an individual. The specific word syntax leads to how an analyzer would discover the purpose or rationale for the primary source. The author is very religious and now there is clear evidence that he is a Christian. This along with all of the authors religious vocabulary helps define the author as a very religious human. The author uses the nature of religion to mediate the issue at hand. The issue is not religion because in the third article the author exclaims Christ has delivered and redeemed us all . Although religion is strongly talked about it is not the dissenting issue because the author sees that who the author is dissenting from is still the son of the same God. The issue lies in a power struggle, mainly an economic one. In the same article the author says it is consistent with Scripture that we should be free and wish to be so. When the Lord told Balaam to go with the men if they came to him in verse 20, the word with in the Hebrew text is erte and means nearness, by, or among. And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaam s anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with a staff. Balaam s ass had more spiritual discernment than her master. The role of armor was fundamental in this expansion as it played a significant role in the success of the Roman armies on the battlefield. There were three common requirements for armor construction throughout its history: The first was that armor had to be flexible enough to allow the wearer freedom of movement; second, it also had to be lightweight enough to be worn without tiring the wearer while providing protection against opponents weapons; and third, armor had to be cost effective. Further reorganization occurred after the civil war of A.D.69, when the victorious Flavian dynasty dispersed disloyal units. As the Empire s expansion slowed, permanent borders were established. Auxiliaries patrolled the borders and legionnaires were stationed within the frontiers to act as a strategic reserve and intimidate potentially rebellious provinces. The army can be divided into two distinct parts: the legion and the auxiliary ( auxilia), with a marked social division existing between the two. Only Roman citizens could become legionnaires, while auxilia were composed of non citizens recruited from Rome s client states and tribes. These legions were supported by the non citizen auxilia consisting of infantry cohorts and cavalry (alae). A legion consisted of around 5,000 men which were mostly heavy foot soldiers. However, it is only possible to attempt a rough estimate of the men who constituted a legion. It has been estimated that the total number of Roman troops, including legions and auxilia, numbered more than 300,000 during the first century A.D. It has also been assumed that the legionary and auxiliary troops were equipped differently. This notion is based on evidence from a single source, Trajan s column, which shows clear distinctions between legionary and auxiliary equipment. The findings even showed that agents would keep their house on the market of an average of 3 weeks longer than a non real estate agents house (Levitt Dubner, 2005). Most Powerful Weapon Ever Created By Austin Perkins Austin Perkins Ever since man has come into existence we have killed with rocks, spears, clubs, knifes, swords, arrows, cannons, guns and, unfortunately, bombs. In 2077 man unleashed the full force of the most powerful weapon ever created, a hydrogen bomb nicknamed the Tsar Bomba, a hydrogen bomb with 50 megatons of explosive power. 1 megaton is equal to a million tons of TNT; the Little Boy that was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945 was only a mere .02. The fallout of such a weapon nearly destroyed the world we lived in, but didn t end it. In the beginning, thousands were able to survive by relocating to underground shelters called vaults. When they finally came out, there was nothing but the apocalyptic wastes for them to see. Buildings were demolished, the landscape was scorched, the water was undrinkable, and the creatures were unholy. When Hell s gates opened there was one vault, however, that kept its gates closed. Vault 101 kept its giant metal door closed and never let anyone in or out. Inside were the inhabitants who were all looked over by an Overseer, who could be a mayor in some vaults or a god in others. • 48. The Role Of Men And Women By Rousseau One of the Western writers who support this gender oppressive system is Rousseau. For Rousseau, everything man and woman have in common belongs to the species, and everything which distinguishes them belongs to the sex [21]. According to him, men and women are not equal. He writes in his famous passage in Emile: In what they have in common, they are equal. Where they differ, they are not comparable. A perfect woman and a perfect man ought not to resemble each other in mind any more than in looks, and perfection is not susceptible of more or less. In the union of the sexes, each contributes equally to the common aim, but not in the same way. From this diversity arises the first assignable difference in the moral relations of the two sexes.(emile) Rousseau believed that woman is created be in subjection to a man, and his judgment, and she will never be free to set her own opinion above his. In short, people associate a witch immediately with fiction. However, in Europe, witches were a very real threat. Between 1400 and 1800, historians estimate that upwards of 50,000 people were killed after being convicted as witches in Europe (Give Me Liberty, p. 109). As colonists settled in North America, they not only brought new customs, plants, animals, and diseases, they brought their superstitions. Witch executions were relatively rare in America, that is, until the 150 convictions and 19 executions of witches that took place in Salem, Massachusetts beginning in 1691 (Orr, September 30, 2015). Though the causes of the mania are still hotly debated even today, the primary cause of the witchcraft hysteria that captivated Salem, Massachusetts in the 1690 s was socioeconomic tensions within the community. The town of Salem was actually split up into two distinctly separate settlements. The village of Salem was characterized by farmers who depended heavily, if not exclusively, on agriculture for their livelihoods. The town of Salem, as it was situated on the water, was comprised primarily of well off merchants.
