Environmental Catalysis Module: Students examines different types of catalytic systems, including heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis. Depending on the knowledge they gained during activities, the students are then asked to design their projects. Our Project: Clean the Soil From Gasoline: Air is used to extract gasoline from the soil. Then the air is collected and sent to the oxidizing unit, where the gasoline components are oxidized (burned). This breaks down the complex hydrocarbons.

We observed that the PH decreased IN “MA + CAT” is faster than “MA solution” and
“H2O + catalyst”

7. OBSERVATION:-
Control was before heating and using catalyst and in no.1 we start heating it as we see
after using catalyst it become cleaner than before and in no.2 it became more cleaner
than before and in no.3 became clear but in no.5 it become darker than before and in
no.5 it become as no.1 that’s because one thing that the catalyst has been expired or
has been unusable again .

9. OBSERVATION:-
We found that the color of methylene blue with
titanium dioxide disappears faster in the sun
light than in ultra violent but in the dark there
was no change.

10. Clean the soil from gasoline
Introduction: Spills of gasoline, diesel fuel
or oil on the soil if not cleaned up
immediately, can cause serious concerns in
the ground water.
The best way to handle a spill is to prevent it.
Spill kits with absorbent material should be
readily available in vehicles, near tanks, or
where petroleum products are handled.

Methods: oxidation systems cost much but using
Catalysts will improve their efficiency and reduce
operating costs of the oxidation units.
These systems are widely used to clean soil that has
been contaminated with gasoline; typically from
underground storage tanks or spills from fuel
transport trucks.
Air is used to extract gasoline from the soil. Then
the air is collected and sent to the oxidizing unit,
where the gasoline components are oxidized
(burned).

12. Clean the soil from gasoline
Methods cont.: After the gasoline vapors are passed
through a filter that screens out solids, the fumes are
exposed to a flame at 1400 ºC in an oxygen-rich
atmosphere.
This breaks down the complex hydrocarbons, and
carbon dioxide and water are produced.

13. Clean the soil from gasoline
Results: From this process carbon
dioxide, water vapor and heat are
produced and will make soil clean of
gasoline. The use of catalysts will decrease
the cost.
