The greatest environmental threats facing Indonesia include deforestation, habitat loss, and pollution. Deforestation due to logging, agriculture, and development destroys forests and wildlife habitats. This leads animals to relocate or come into conflict with humans. Deforestation also releases greenhouse gases, eliminates food sources, and puts people and wildlife at risk from fires. Overfishing and mining further damage the environment. Unless addressed, many species in Indonesia face extinction as their habitats disappear.
