Enron Scandal Essay
Crafting an essay on the Enron scandal presents a formidable challenge due to the intricate
nature of the subject matter. Delving into the depths of corporate deceit, financial
mismanagement, and ethical breaches requires a comprehensive understanding of complex
financial transactions, legal intricacies, and the broader implications on corporate governance.
The Enron scandal is a multifaceted topic that demands a meticulous examination of the events
leading to the downfall of one of the largest energy companies in the world.
To create a well-rounded essay, one must navigate through the intricate web of financial
documents, legal proceedings, and ethical discussions surrounding the Enron scandal. The task
involves synthesizing information from various sources, ranging from financial reports to legal
analyses, and interpreting the implications of the scandal on corporate culture and regulatory
frameworks.
Moreover, addressing the historical context, the roles of key players, and the aftermath of the
Enron scandal adds layers of complexity to the writing process. The essay should not only
elucidate the financial machinations that led to Enron's collapse but also explore the ripple
effects it had on the corporate world and the regulatory landscape.
Furthermore, maintaining a balanced and objective tone while dissecting the moral and ethical
dimensions of the scandal requires a nuanced approach. The writer must navigate through the
grey areas of corporate responsibility, accountability, and the ethical dilemmas faced by
individuals involved in the scandal.
In conclusion, composing an essay on the Enron scandal is a formidable task that demands
extensive research, analytical prowess, and the ability to synthesize information from diverse
fields. However, unraveling the layers of this corporate catastrophe provides valuable insights
into the complexities of modern financial systems and the importance of ethical governance in
corporate entities.

Disney s Return On Equity Essay
Over the years Disney, continues to evolve with each generation, able to quickly
and swiftly adapt to meet the needs of their customers. Disney believes that their,
willingness to challenge the status quo and embrace change is one of our greatest
strengths, especially in a media market rapidly transforming with each new
technology or consumer trend, (Disney 2015 Annual Report). An example of this
is the recent craze for superhero movies. Once this high tech trend of movies hit
the market, Disney quickly began to produce the Marvel superhero movies to
meet the demand. Disney s product innovation capabilities allow them to
constantly be in the lead of each trend that changes within the market. Ratio
Analysis First, we will analyze the profitability ratios. Disney s return on equity
was 21.39% while Viacom s was 36.8%. This ratio serves as a warning sign on
investing in Disney s stock as Viacom is doing a better job at investing their
shareholder s money. Next, Disney s return on assets was 16.5% and Viacom s
was 8.91%. This favorable ratio to Disney is due to their valuable customer
experience, which creates a higher net income. Disney had a financial leverage of
4.89% while Viacom s was 27.89%. Once again, this favorable ratio to Disney can
be explained by their large amount and effective utilization of assets, allowing them
to rely less on financing through debt. We believe Disney s ability to create an
experience is conducive to return visits and repeated
King Tut s Death
Since his tomb s discovery, King Tutankhamun s death has been debated by many
scholars and anyone who is interested. The ideas proposed by these scholars are
constantly being challenged by other evidence suggesting otherwise. The young King
s early death has been a very debatable topic, but evidence clearly points to the theory
that his death was caused by an accident that broke his femur which got infected and
nobody knew how to treat it. The discovery of the young King Tutankhamuns tomb
provided some insight on his life as a pharaoh. Tut s tomb has been the only tomb that
has been relatively untouched by tomb raiders, giving egyptologists so much more
information than any other tomb in the Valley of Kings (Caselli 12 14). Egyptologist

In a Smithsonian article by Matthew Shaer, titled The Controversial Afterlife of
King Tut , he mentions that Zahi Hawass and his team noticed a break in his lower
left femur seemed different than the breaks made by Carter. The break was ragged
rather than sharp. This suggests that it was broken when he was alive. In the same
article, Shaer also says that they noticed two layers of embalming material in the
wound. History.com talks about how nobody knew that wounds needed to be kept
clean so the wound would become infected with gangrene causing the leg to triple in
size (History.com). This would explain why King Tut seems to have a club foot . The
infection could have been caused by an accident involving a chariot, an animal, or
both while hunting. Not much can contradict the evidence put forth proving that he
must have died due to an infection in his lower left femur. In Matthew Shaer s The
Controversial Afterlife of King Tut , he mentions that two scientists, who both
examined the CT, scans believed that there was not enough evidence to prove the
broken femur theory (Shaer). They are correct, but at this point, the broken femur
theory is most plausible with the most compelling evidence compared to any other
theory proposed. The mysteries of King Tut s life and more interesting death may be
Fetus Lead Contamination
My company has consistently tried to reduce lead exposure to its employee s. In
fact, they are the ones that initiated programs to decrease the lead exposure to its
workers. Whenever employees receive a doctor s report stating that his or her lead
blood levels are high, they would be transferred out with benefits. It s been proven
that lead is toxic and can have ill effects on an unborn child, and these effects may
not manifest themselves immediately at birth. In addition to that, lead levels that
may be safe for a fully grown adult are still toxic to a developing infant fetus. The
policy established in 1977 did not result in protecting women and their children from
excess lead levels. During the beginning stages of conception, the ill effects... Show

In any realm of the world, it is always better to be safe than sorry. The decision
made should be that the company change it policy and implement the one that
requires complete exclusions of women with childbearing capacity from high lead
exposure positions. According to the law book, Consequentialism deals with the
ethics and morality of the consequence of actions instead of the actual actions
themselves, so in other words, lying itself is not unethical, but the results of lying
may indeed be unethical. While it may not be fair or necessarily ethical to exclude
women from those toxic environments, the end result of the policy change would be
ethical because it would prevent the lead from ever having the chance of affecting
the potential unplanned child. The potential unborn child is the most affected from
the policy change and stands to gain the most out of it; by implementing the policy,
it would give the children of any unplanned pregnancies the opportunity to live a
normal life without any defects due to the absence of toxic lead levels. The end
result of a healthy baby justifies the means of potential unethical exclusion of women
from a toxic even if they want to environment. In order to enforce and monitor the
policy, any potential eligible women who wish to work in the toxic lead environment
would be subject to a medical examination in order to confirm that the woman is
Plagiarism In Purdue Owl s Intellectual Property
Plagarism
Date: 9/2/15
Plagiarism is essentially using work from somebody else and not giving them credit
but claiming it as your own work, also considered theft of another s intellectual
property. Intellectual property is defined as work, inventions, or ideas created by
another person. Protecting intellectual property can be obtained by applying for a
patent, copyright or trademark which thereby legally claims ownership. According to
the law, these applications are provided to us as a basic human right where a person
can claim their property while reducing the risk of theft by the protection of the
Intellectual Property Law (Electronic Frontier Foundation).
Plagiarism is not always recognized or even considered theft of property. Ironically,
this assignment can easily be plagiarized. The main objective is to summarize and

Subject Matter Jurisdiction Research Paper
This paper will include material about state and federal court systems. Terms such
as subject matter jurisdiction and personal jurisdiction will be described in detail.
There are requirements of personal jurisdiction in a federal court and three
different types of personal jurisdiction. The two types of cases that federal courts
may hear are criminal cases and civil cases which will also be discussed. Subject
matter jurisdiction is the ability of a court to hear cases if a certain kind of cases
relating to a precise subject matter. For instance, bankruptcy courts will only hear
cases regarding bankruptcy. Personal jurisdiction is the control of a court over the
defendants in the case. The constitution necessitates that the party have assured
A Classical Concert
Concert Attendance Report It was my first time attending a classical musical concert.
I was so excited when I attending this concert. In my mind, the concert is always
boring and around solemn person. But when I came in there are not that exactly that I
was thought. People in here with daily outfit and chat with people around them. The
concert is begining at 7:00 p.m. When the musicsounded, the audience quiet down. I
thought I will be sitting there and falling alseep, but I m not, I was immersed in
this music. I did a little work before I went to this concert. It had five pieces were
performed and they all were composed by Johannes Brahms. The first be played was

of style is romantic. The last one is Clarinet Quintet in b minor, OP. 115. It s
romantic, too. Clarinet Quintet a total of four movements, the first movement relative
to the most complex, the most instense emontional expression. It s began with the
violin playing. Then the second movement introduced by the clarinet, the mood
comes depresssed again as the first movment. It s slower paced and gentle. The third
movement begins treacle, but each of his last melody often attributed to serious and
contemplative. Fourth movement is characterized by the varuation. It s has same
sweet melody which resembles the second movement. At the end is with a loud chord

cello and clarinet. I enjoyed this concert. Not only it s my first time went to a
classical music concert, but also the music of this concert that the musicians played
were very well. When the movement was change my mood was different. I think it s
totally different feel if you attending a live concert or just watch at home. The
atmosphere I was realy enjoyed in that time at the
A Better Map Of Europe
Christine, need a better map of Europe
EUROPE
Europe is the 6th largest continent and is actually a vast peninsula of the great
Eurasian land mass.
Regions
Europe can be divided into seven geographic regions: Scandinavia (Iceland, Norway,
Sweden, Finland, and Denmark); the British Isles (the United Kingdom and Ireland);
W Europe (France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Monaco); S Europe
(Portugal, Spain, Andorra, Italy, Malta, San Marino, and Vatican City); Central
Europe (Germany, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic,
Slovakia, and Hungary); SE Europe (Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina,
Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, and the
European part of Turkey); and E Europe (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine,
Moldova, the European portion of Russia, and by convention the Transcaucasian
countries of Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan).
Europe is a unique continent, which is not surrounded by water from all directions,
and has an overland border with the neighbouring Asia. Physiographically, it occupies
the northwestern part of the large landmass known as Eurasia and surrounded from
the north by the Arctic Ocean, from the west by the Atlantic Ocean, from the south
by the Mediterranean Sea, and from the southeast by the Black Sea.
Definition of correct border between two continents was a big question for
geographers and politicians. Nowadays it is commonly delineated by the Ural

Plutarch s In The Western Canon
In the Western Canon written by Harold Bloom, under the category Hellenistic
Greeks is the name Plutarch. Plutarch is considered one of the best known Greek
biographers and essayists, writing extensively about ancient Greek and Roman
culture, influencing later Western writers according to Biography.com. He has
written over two hundred pieces of work and Plutarchhas influenced and inspired
many historians and philosophers throughout the centuries and still does to this very
day. Plutarch has many positive aspects throughout his life and has had so major
influence on people and for those reasons, are why I think he was canonized by
Harold Bloom.

In the 19th century Plutarch s impact on the world started to decline, partly due to the
Romantic Movement s (Bio.com). People wanted more of human passions and
expressions, rather than just strict behavior that Plutarch wrote. Nowadays Plutarch s
serve as references for popular ideas on Greek and Roman history (Bio.com).
According to Plutarch s Exemplary Lives written by Lance Morrow throughout the
centuries Parallel Lives is known as a biographical bestseller: too much history by
anecdote. Meaning that Plutarch was just writing short, amusing or interesting things
about people. That he was telling history but in his own short personal way. Then the
Victorian scholar Arthur Hugh Clough remarked in an introduction: It cannot be
denied that [Plutarch] is careless about numbers, and occasionally contradicts his own
statements. A greater fault, perhaps, is his passion for anecdote; he cannot forbear
from repeating stories, the improbability of which he is the first to recognise.

people say he was, but I believe that everyone has some negatives about themselves
and I think that Plutarch s positives out way these
The Outcast Of Poker Flat Isolationism Essay
Alone, secluded, lonely, godforsaken, lonely, and companionless, each of these
words are associated with isolation. People see isolationism as being alone and
apart from society. However, a person can be surrounded by people, but be
surrounded be isolated in the confines of his or her own mind. In addition,
Isolationism can take many different shapes and forms. For example, a person can
be isolated, this what is synonymous with isolationism; a group can be isolated,
such as German Jewish people in the 1940s; or an entire country can be isolated
from the world, like North Korea and Cuba. People see isolationism as a negative
part of society that should be avoided at all costs. However, positive things can come
from isolationism. The literary works The Hollow Menby T.S. Eliot, The Story of an
Hour by Kate Chopin, The Rime of the Ancient Marinerby Samuel Coleridge, and
The Outcast of Poker Flat by Bret Harte all show isolationism in different lights.

Coach Chet s Effect On The Greenwave Girls
Chance at Revenge
Being in sports can be both challenging and rewarding at times. Being brutally
defeated can make you feel like you re at rock bottom, while winning a
championship game can make you feel as if you re on the top of the world. This is
a story about a basketball team who finally stepped up to their biggest rival of all,
showing the other team and themselves that anything is possible.
The East Grand Forks (EGF) Greenwave Girls basketball team had been playing
basketball together since first grade, plus or minus a few players. The majority of
them played for the love of the game, no matter if they win or lose. They were no
all star team that destroyed and dominated every opponent they took on; just an
average team with wins and losses scattered around the grid. There was one team in
particular that the Greenwave girls could never compete with, and they lived in the
same city. The Sacred Heart Eagles. Beginning in first grade, this team had never

Their coach was Chet Carnivale. Coach Chet had been making a big impact on the
Greenwave girls. It was late January, early February; the middle of the basketball
season, and their record was 22 0. They couldn t believe they were undefeated.
Taking on Sacred Heart at 4:30, the Greenwave girls would compete to win the
championship game in the Sacred Heart Tournament. Time had flown by. The sound
of basketballs bouncing and the squeaking of basketball shoes burning rubber on
the floor meant that it was almost game time. The Greenwave girls were extremely
anxious. Coach Chet had sparked a new confidence in them, and their anxiety and
fear quickly turned into anger and determination to give their long time enemy a
taste of their own medicine. Somehow, the fear of destroying their record and losing
a chance at revenge still lingered in the back of their minds. All of a sudden, the ref

A Critical Evaluation of the Deductive Argument from Evil
Critically Evaluate the Deductive Argument from Evil
Logically, can Evil and the three O God co exist in this universe? The deductive
argument from evil says they cannot. In this essay I will explain the argument and
analyze why it is valid but unsound. I will do this by discussing fallacious nature of
the premise that if God were omnipotent and knew he could prevent the existence of
evil without sacrificing some greater good he would then necessarily prevent it. The
essay will propose the following evaluation of the deductive argument from Evil: that
each premise logically follows from its antecedent, but that the concepts in the
premises themselves are not entirely understood and can be refuted. God s Omni
benevolence, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An even further analysis of the issue of misinterpretation of Omni benevolence, or
false assumptions about God s nature, is the claim that the deductive argument
from evil contains a referential fallacy; presuming that all words refer to existing
things and that their meaning lies in what the refer to. This claim of the unsound
nature of the argument asserts that the deductive argument from evil fallaciously
assumes the idea of Omni benevolence is defined by existing ideas and worldly
concepts of all good nature . It is logically possibly, however, that God s perfect
goodness is beyond man s understanding and cannot be defined by actions or non
actions relating to the evil of this world. Thus leading to the false conviction that
God need necessarily eliminate all evil from the world in order to be inherently
good. These forms of counter arguments to the deductive explanation of evil s non
compatibility with God can be refuted. The following are defenses for the
deductive argument that support the primary understanding of God s Omni
benevolence as mandating the elimination of all existing evil. Firstly, Omni
benevolence is a description of God s absolutely good nature and entails that God
desires everything that is good. This desire to bring about good things also means a
desire to prevent evil things from happening. Hence God s good nature doesn t need
to necessarily lead to no omission of good actions, but it does lead to the necessary
idea that God
Literary Analysis Of The Turn Of The Screw
Gothic horror has been an interest to many people for centuries. It first peaked
around the 1790 s. It is a stylistic genre of horror that uses a set of characteristics to
cause a sense of fear in the audience or readers. The Turn of the Screw, by Henry
James, who also wrote his story in 1898 during the Victorian area, uses gothic horror
conventions to reflect the complexity of the human psyche which, leaves the
audience with a sense of ambiguity, or fear of the unknown. The Turn of the Screw is
a great short storythat uses rhetorical and literary devices to express a ghost story.
The story involves a governess who becomes obsessed with the idea of trying to
prove that there are ghosts in the household, while also trying to do her job of
protecting the children. She often encounters two ghosts that she believes are trying
to corrupt her pupils, and are also communicating with them without her knowing.
Henry Jamesuses his story to invoke the fears of the Victorian era; fears of which
include the corruption of children, potential evil, and the reliability of a governess
in a household. In our world, people are often asking themselves if they can ever
trust having someone entering their home. In The Turn of the Screw, Henry James
uses the fear of reliability to trigger the audience s fear of trusting someone into
their home. For example, in his short story, the governess questions what happened
to the previous governess. Mrs. Grose then proceeds to state, The last governess?
She was also young and pretty almost as young and almost as pretty, Miss, even as
you, (James 130). Mrs. Grose implies that there was an affair and because of it, the
previous governess is no longer there. It can later be seen that Mrs. Grose is
suggesting that the current governess may cause trouble and end up being in the
same position as the previous governess; especially when Mrs. Grose says, ...almost
as young and almost as pretty, Miss, even as you, (James 130). The audience then
becomes fearful and more cautious of their choices because they wouldn t want this
situation to occur to them. In There is a strong prejudice against governess by Mary
Maurice, the author states that in the Victorian era, governesses often have
Masculinity In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
The people in Chronicle of a Death Foretold surround themselves with honor whist
they hide behind their masculinity. This concept of conserving their honor above all
else is the source of the society s problem, they all mask themselves from the truth
because they are frightened by it. This is demonstrated by Angela s mother, Purisima
del Carmen, when she beats Angela for supposedly not being a virgin, she was
holding me by the hair with one hand and beating me with the other with such rage
that I thought she was going to kill me (MГЎrquez 46). By suppressing themselves,
the women of the society give into the expectation set by Machismo. When PurГsima
beats Angela instead of consoling her, she is depicting the impact Machismo has on
the women.
Speech About Smoking
It s not surprising that in this world you see at least one person a day smoking. I
mean who doesn t love watching people rush to get lung cancer? Seeing one
person just taking their life away with something so stoppable, is so adorable, I
mean what other qualities would you look for in a man? I like mine fully addicted
and ready to waste their life away. It s the best religion that I must say so myself. In
fact, I like that people rely on something like religion to lead them to the way they
want to live their life. I personally believe in the smokies. The smokinese are a group
of people that worship nicotine. Id honestly love to be apart of that. I mean I love the
smell of it in the air, the feeling of polluted air. Nothing gets better than that. In reality
smokingis the only relief to take away pain these days. I mean what other reason
would people put something so horrible into their body if it didn t relieve any type
of stress or good feeling. I live for the day to see everyone to have lung cancer and
killing themselves for just being vulnerable about stress relief. I mean people
preach smoking nowadays. People wanna go back to the way of smoking in a
restaurant and people recommend it, it s a religion that s being created without
anyone understanding. As the smokinese people believe that the only way to live a
happy and stress free life is to become addicted to smoking, they sure are right. I
mean think about it, out of everyone in this world that smokes how many of
The Sustainability Of A Building
Politics is related to almost everything, and therefore, the economy also relates to
almost everything. Many things are done and decided based on the benefits received.
Either through the great profit they can make by using the limited resources we have
or by using the resources we have excessively and wastefully, without thinking of the
consequences it will have on us and for later generations. It is hard to find a balance
between sustainabilityand our economy. Economic growth however, also depends on
a sustaining and functional environment. LEED is an organization that does not
successfully evaluate the sustainability of a building. Instead some other
organizations does better at evaluating in detail and continuously of how it is
sustainable and how it has continued to be more eco friendly.
Politics is connected to natural resources, the issue of global warming, and
sustainability. In order for the economy to grow, it feeds on natural resources that
produces waste and pollutes the earth and the air. This threatens the environment and
the eco system in which our lives depend. The use of natural resources exceeds the
amount the earth can undertake and recover. And the foundation of all our economic
growth is built upon the counterbalance of the resources spent and recovered.
Therefore, it can be taken away anytime; when our planet can t supply and take the
amount we are asking from anymore, we would have lost everything, the economy,
environment and our lives.

All Summer in a Day
Harassment, bullying, isolation and depression are things a nine year old should not
be experiencing, but for a little girl living who s living on Venus, this is exactly
what is happening. The short story All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury , takes
place on the planet Venus where everyday is like the next, full of rain. To the
residents of Venus, this is normal, unless you just moved here five years ago. This is
the case for Margot who has to deal with the torture of remembering life on Earth.
Every seven years, the sun shines on Venus. For just two hour, the rain stops pouring
and the sky turns blue. Margot has been waiting for this day ever since she moved to
Venus. Unfortunately, the other students lock her in the closet and she misses the
opportunity to see the sun that she loves and misses so much. A theme throughout
the story is that the children of Venus are jealous of Margot because she is different,
this is shown when the author describes Margot, when Margot is in the shower, and
when the children lock her in the closet.
One of the reasons that the children of Venus are jealous of Margot is because of
her different experiences. The author writes the biggest crime of all was that she has
come here only five years ago from Earth, and she remembered the sun and the away
the sun was and the sky (Bradbury 1974). He uses this quote to show the reader the
relationship between Margot and her classmates. It shows

History Of Intelligence During The United States
History of Intelligence in the United States The history of intelligence in the United
States resulted from the Cold War period and also provided intelligence support to the
United States military which helped develop policies and procedures of the United
States toward other countries. The development of intelligence in the United States
has ultimately provided higher security for our citizens. President George Washington
took command over the Continental Army in 1775; he had agents devise secrete
methods to analyze raw intelligence and was able to create campaigns to deceive the
British armies. Washington believed that the key to the success of intelligence
activities was secrecy and well planned intelligence. In 1863, the Bureau of Military
Intelligence was established. This included the evaluations of the Confederate Army s
strength and activities that also included the operations of the Civil War.
Unfortunately, The Bureau of Military Intelligence was disestablished at the end of
the war; however the Secret Service was then established in 1865 to address
counterfeiting. In the 1880s, the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy established formal
intelligence divisions. The first formed US intelligence organizations were formed in
the Army s Military Intelligence Division by creating informant rings and having the
capabilities of intercepting communications between Madrid and Spanish military
commanders in Cuba. The counterintelligence during the Spanish American War in

Sandwich Blitz Swot Analysis Paper
If the Sandwich Blitz, Inc. were to expand on a large scale, strengths include the
current consistency in the quality of food that is found among the current eight
freestanding shops and the historic performance of these shops. The 30% return on
investment for 2011 shows that the company has been successful and is in a good
place financially for expansion. Another strength is that the sandwich and beverage
shops do not require a large lease in order to be successful. Being able to lease land
that is unsuitable for most commercial purposes gives the company a competitive
advantage when negotiating leases and would continue to be a strength in the large
scale expansion.
A weakness in the large scale expansion of the Sandwich Blitz shops is the ... Show

Because of a recent economic downturn, there may be an opportunity to negotiate
new lease opportunities at even better rates. Also, franchising the Sandwich Blitz
shops seems like a great opportunity for expansion beyond Dalman and Lei s current
large metropolitan area. This would require training upfront on Dalman s part to
insure the same quality and consistency in the food preparation. However, once the
franchisees shops were established, there would be less time Dalman and Lei for
any specific issues, as the franchisee would be responsible.Dalman and Lei can
participate in the profitability of these franchises without the same level of
management that is currently required. This opportunity would also potentially be
less risk for the company as a large amount of capital would not be required in the
expansion.
One threat for the Sandwich Blitz, Inc. is the economic downturn that has
negatively affected the occupancy in the office parks where half of the shops
currently exist. The lower traffic in these areas may affect the profitability going
forward and affect the cash flow in the midst of the large scale expansion. Also, the
two new franchise operations that offer similar food and beverages and may enter
the area soon are threats to the potential success of a large scale
Similarities Between Frost And Heaney
Both poets, Frost and Heaney wrote in the pastoral tradition, drawing on the natural
landscape of Bellaghy, Co Derry and Frost and the farmland of New England,
Massachusetts. Respectively Frost is an influence on Heaney evident in the sound of
sense and Heaney borrowed the Frostian voice of rural vernacular with his use of
unadorned language and natural speech rhythms, giving both poets work a
conversational intimacy. Likewise, both poets used the everyday quotidian to
illuminate universal truths and to extrapolate deeper meanings from ordinary.
Similarly they used interactions with the natural world to produce profound
revelations about the past, mortality, human loss, childhood, the creative process,
journeys and self discovery. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Modern Architecture Essays
ESSAY 1
Le Corbusier and Mies van de Rohe were two architects influenced by the
contemporary movements of their time period. Le Corbusier s architectural ideology
was derived from the multiple techniques and styles he had previously encountered
through study. His early designs were expressive of the youth style which was
introduced to him by his instructor, L Eplattenier. New technologies, however, began
to influence his philosophies. Le Corbusier saw potential in concrete building systems
and desired to experiment with its structural abilities through his designs. The modern
industry, as well as the political disorder which came about following the First World
War, motivated his innovative design philosophies which appeared in... Show more

Style, he described, was defined by the time period in which architects practiced like
building techniques and philosophies. Michael Speaks would have attributed the lack
of new in the architecture of Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier s era to cohesion
to general manifestoes produce outside their time period. Architects from later time
periods cannot pursue the same manifesto because technological advances in design
must be considered. His arguments reveal that following a general manifesto from
start to finish will produce an unchanging architecture. Michael Speaks wrote, I do
not believe we need another manifesto in architecture, even of the incomplete,
aborted or personal variety. Architecture, it seems has suffered enough from the
illusion that manifestoes matter (except insofar as they stifle creativity) and it is
time we found other ways of developing experimental practices ... Vanguards, with
their five points, seven principles and ten theses for a new architecture, draw a line
that leads straight from the manifesto to the new. And because the completion of this
line is best that can be hoped for, there is nothing new about the new. If architects
followed the same lines to solve the same problems, a new architecture could not be
actualized. A separation from the lines between manifesto and solution made way for
discovery of design and methods of creating new architecture. Mies van der Rohe and

Any amusement park is not complete without dodging cars and Chunky Monkey

Communist Party And Anti Corruption
On April 17, 1989, thousands of student protesters flooded Tiananmen Square,
Beijing, to mourn Hu Yaobang s death. Yaobang was the former General Secretary of
the Communist Party and also served as a symbol of political reform and anti
corruption. The students asked the government to end corruption and to give political
and economic reform. Demonstrations spread to different cities, with workers joining
in. They complained about money and housing issues. The spread of the
demonstrations concerned Party leaders, who thought there was going to be rebellion
from the protesters. Li Peng, who ranked second in the Party, believed that they
should nip it in the bud, while Party General Secretary Zhao Ziyangthought that

All this does is help demonstrations spread. At this point, foreign coverage of the
demonstrations is commonplace, but Party members cannot agree on how to
handle the situation. With students going back to their classes, the protesters didn t
have any real leadership. Different factions did different things. Tension arose in
the Communist Party while preparing for Soviet Party Secretary Mikhail
Gorbachev s trip to Beijing. Xiaoping wanted to solve the protester situation
peacefully, but at the same time, he wanted them out of the Square for Gorbachev
s arrival. However, this would not be the case. On May 13, over 100 students in
Tiananmen Square started a hunger strike in hopes for talks with the leaders of the
Communist Party, knowing Gorbachev would arrive shortly. On May 15,
Gorbachev arrived in Beijing. He was there for the first ever Sino Soviet summit

While this was happening, Zhao and Peng kept their respective stances; Zhao
believed they should listen to the people and make reforms, while Peng maintained
that the protesters were no good and that they were aiming to overthrow the Party.

At-Will Employment
At Will Employment The term at will applies both to the person hired and to the
person who does the hiring. As the term suggests, both parties have the ability to
end the employment whenever they wish because there are no strings attached to
it (Employee Issues, 2012). In a normal contract situation, a person is employed for
a specified amount of time and the individual knows that as long as a contract is in
force what is expected and the remuneration that comes with the employment. This
type of contract comes with a guarantee of employment as long as the individual
meets the requirements of the contract. A contract also guarantees the employer
that the employee has to fulfill certain obligations by law. In the case of at will
employment, there is no contract signed by either party. Even though the
employee may interview and have to fill out certain paperwork to obtain the job,
they are not contracted for the work. The employee is hired with the understanding
that they can leave employment at any time and that the employer can do the
same. This also means that the employer is free to change the specifications of the
job any time they will (Employee Issues, 2012). Another facet of this type of
employment is that the employer is free to choose the type of employee they want.
Even if a policy seems discriminatory, the employer is able to apply it if it does not
in some way violate the law. As a final note on the definition of such employment,
employers will generally

Now, at the beginning of a new century, what problems have been fixed? Illiteracy is
still high, American standards are still low, and graduates are still unprepared. Each
generation feels that schools are worse than the generation before. America has been
attempting to solve the problems with its education system for 200 years, but nothing
has changed.
According to Rothstein:
Schools are not up to the task of readying young people for the challenges of the next
century. An apparently watered down curriculum ensures that all students, regardless
of whether they have mastered necessary skills, can graduate. Social promotion
without requirements to master grade appropriate skills is now commonplace, so
even elite colleges must run remedial courses for freshmen in basic math and
literacy, and business executives complain that high school graduates are ill prepared
for even relatively unskilled jobs (2).
Are these complaints not the same ones that appeared a century ago? Improvement is
desperately needed, but where should it start? Cleveland, Milwaukee, and the state of
Florida have suggested an answer: a school voucher system. Voucher proponents
believe that the system which they support is a starting place. Voucher proponents
across the nation believe that through this program, which places the burden of
improvement upon schools, progress can be made.
The voucher system

Messages to the Reader in Jane Eyre, a Novel by Charlotte...
Jane Eyre, a novel by Charlotte BrontГ«, contains several notable themes and
messages sent to its readers. Jane Eyre is a coming of age novel that is a story of a
girl s quest for equality and happiness. A common theme that recurs throughout the
novel is the importance of independence.Charlotte BrontГ« utilizes several techniques
to convey this message, incorporating her personal experiences, as well as including
symbolism and motifs. Charlotte Bronte subjects Jane to several conflicts that occur
because of Jane s desire for independence and freedom, such as love, religion, and
gender inequality.
Jane Eyre is a story of a quest to be loved. Jane searches, not just for romantic love,
but also for a sense of being valued and belonging. However, this search is
constantly hindered by her need for independence. She starts of as an unloved
orphan who is desperate to find love and a purpose. For example, Jane says to
Helen, to gain some real affection from you, or Miss Temple, or any other whom I
truly love, I would willingly submit to have the bone of my arm broken, or to let a
bull toss me, or to stand behind a kicking horse, and let it dash its hoof at my chest
. However, over the course of the novel, Jane learns to gain love without harming
herself in the process. Although she is despised by her aunt, Mrs. Reed, she finds
parental figures throughout the book. Miss Temple and Bessie care for Jane and
give her love and guidance. However, Jane does not feel as though she has found
Essay On Hoover Dam
The Hoover Dam is legendary. Having visited and stood on it s bridge many times,
there is no way to describe the incredible power that one feels just setting foot near
the place. In 1922, the Reclamation Service presented a report calling for the
development of a dam on the Colorado River for flood control and electric power
generation. Even before Congress approved the Boulder Canyon Project, the Bureau
of Reclamation was considering what kind of damshould be used. Officials
eventually decided on a massive concrete arch gravity dam, the design of which was
overseen by the Bureau s chief design engineer John L. Savage. Construction of
Hoover Dambegan in 1931, and the last concrete was poured in 1935, two years
ahead of schedule. President Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated the dam on
September 30, 1935. The power plant structures were completed in 1936, and the
first generator began commercial operation in October of that year. The vital
statistics describing Hoover Dam and its benefits are quite impressive on paper, but
having visited the location and lived in areas of the country who benefit from the
dam, the overwhelming size and impact of the project is made real. The dam is thick
at the bottom and thin near the top, and would present a convex face towards the
water above the dam. The curving arch of the dam would transmit the water s force

Comprehending The Career Steps Of Cosmetology
Comprehending the Career Steps to Cosmetology There s one blessing only, the
source and cornerstone of beatitude confidence in self. (Seneca O). Seneca is one
optimistic person who always dreamed to be proud of herself. Not only with her
inner beauty but with her outer beauty too. Building confidence upon herself rose
her self esteem. Leaving all the negativity out and bringing the positivity in, made
her days much more healthy and bright. She always asked herself, What s better
than being happy with yourself? These thoughts encouraged her to consider
cosmetology as a career. Cosmetology is a career where she can make people
happy and feel confident with themselves by helping their personal style and
hygiene. Therefore she considered education, job growth, job description, and
salary. Cosmetology s required education is short and interesting, although there
are differences between schools. In order to enroll into a cosmetology school or
program you must have your high school diploma or GED. The school future
cosmetologists chooses to assist can definitely determine how difficult it may be.
For example, if you attend a community college you will learn the basics at a low
cost. While if you attend a private cosmetology school you will learn much more
than the basic. A private cosmetology school will of course be much more expensive
than your option of the community college. Cosmetology is a short and quick
program. It can be done within nine to eleven months

Instead of that he was very much interested for individual application for all the

standardization was always kept in mind and hence Emphasis was given to the use
of common architecture and databases. From the case given it was clearly seen
that functional areas were responsible for the budgetary decision on IT
expenditures while the IT organization directly reports to Solvik. The IT won t do
anything unless they ask for something new. Also Solvik was concerned about the

Germany s War Aims In The First World War
In the area of knowledge of history, certain crucial questions are inevitable, as to
what constitutes knowledge: How do we know our past? Who records them, and
what are we recording? The last question is the most important one as it is in the
hands of the historian to ascertain what should go down in history and how it should
be recorded. Therefore, he/she has the power to create a perspective for the people
who will subscribe to this historical knowledge. This bring us to the next important
question How far does opinion impact on the historians methodology, and the extent
to which the context of the historian leads to new historical interpretations? To
understand this better, let us take an example. Context: One of the greatest historical

In 1961 German historian Fritz Fischer published a controversial book, Germany s
War Aims in the First World War. Fischer argued that the German s had plans for war
right from the start and that the assassination of the Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand was
just an excuse for war. He believed that Germany encouraged Austrian war plans. The
counter argument to Fischer s view was presented by another German historian,
Gerhard Ritter in his book, Staatskunst und Krieghandwerk: das Problem des
Militarism in Deutschland. Ritter believed that Germany was mainly motivated by
the desire to keep Austria as a great power and to prevent Russian domination in the
Balkans. Ritter stated in his book that Germany had no long term war plan and they
were dragged into war by Austria. Furthermore, he believed that Germany
miscalculated that Britain would not enter the war. Ritter strongly believed that
military plans were necessary for Germany with Russia posing as a threat. This shows
how two historians with same context use different methodologies in attempting to
find historical truth. Which leads to the question: To what extent is history
discovered or invented? Objectivity is taken away when a historian has to select or
identify different themes, causes and effects. The choice of language in which these
selections are presented also impacts attempts to maintain objectivity when presenting

penguins get in the water they will get hurt. And if they can t get in water then
they will have no food and will most likely die. Similarly in saving penguins, one

In the amazing penguin rescue the setting is at South Atlantic ocean. An example

Marriott Honor College Motto
The University of Utah Honors College motto engraved on the rock outside of the
Marriott Honors Center reads Serve the World . The motto assumed to be written
and approved by the donor and honors boards is an attempt to inspire college
students through a short phrase. It s safe to say the people on these boards have
good hearted motives in writing a phrase they believe will drive honors students to
have an unstoppable drive to produce a positive change in the world. Aspiring to be a
phrase vague enough to make students want to find the solution for climate change,
cure cancer, and end world hunger; while also being a phrase that is powerful enough
to make students feel like they have the power to change serve the world, the motto
attempts to reach near impossible heights. The well intentioned... Show more content

The motto written by unknown author however is too abstract to convey any
directional importance, is too similar to the motto s of BYU, and it is short and
overwhelming. It is important to understand and appreciate what the board was
trying to do, whether they were trying to please donors, they were donors, or
maybe that s just what the board found the most uplifting, but if the organization is
expecting to create critically minded students like the Honor s College tries to
pride itself in doing; the motto needs to convey that. It not only needs to reflect
and satisfy what the donors and board are trying to do but also accomplish the
goals of the University s Honors College as well, so that money continues to flow
into programs like the Honors College, but the programs can also carry out their
objectives. If satisfying the donors is too distant of a distraction from the end goal, it
is not worth their donations. Taking a quote from a well known respected
philosopher could be the answer to the
Social Policy And The Access Of The Judiciary System
What is Social Policy and the link to the Judiciary system
Social policy aims to improve human welfare and to meet human needs. Important
areas of social policy are wellbeing and welfare, unemployment insurance, pensions,
the NHS, social housing, family policy, social care, child protection, crime and
criminal justice and labour issues. It was said problems of children who were
deprived or abused have been connected closely with issues concerning young
offenders (Spicker.uk, 2015).This statement involves various roles from
professionals in the judiciary system. Under the Children s Act 1998 the local
authority s functions where to provide services which support children and their
families (Anon, 2015). Social workers would have had involvement during the
individual s young life and have already taken action in order to prevent the abuse
therefore preventing young offenders. In turn victim support would support the
individual if they are required in a court setting; they will advise if they are feeling
worried, nervous or afraid. If an individual becomes a young offender the Youth
offending teams within the court support them by; staying in touch with a young
person if they re sentenced in custody, charged with a crime and has to go to court or
if a young person is arrested. The youth offending team work closely with the
probation services (Gov.uk, 2015).

The Passage Of The Water Rule Under The Obama...
The outcome of interest in this study is the passage of the Water Rule under the
Obama administration. This is the dependent variable as it defines the parameters
for the Clean Water Act. These parameters include navigable waters used for
commerce, and its tributaries that pass Justice Kennedy s significant nexus test. The
adoption of this definition is proof that a change in policy occurred that gave clear
parameters to federal jurisdiction of which waters are subject to regulation under the
Clean Water Act. Multiple Streams Framework suggests that policy is dictated by a
policy entrepreneur when problems, policy, and politics intersect. According to Ley,

Lastly the policy window where problems, policy and politics intersect as an opening
for changing policy. This may be presented as a hashtag online with the problem and
solution linked together, urging politicians to vote in favor of the policy, or a number
of statements made about the problem and solutions in conjuncture by politicians and
lobbyists. For this theory to be supported, all five must be present. Punctuated
Equilibrium Theory explains policy stability with incremental changes and rapid
policy change. According to Ley (2015), policy stability is caused by a policy
monopoly in the framing of an issue. When this monopoly is disrupted, then there is
rapid policy change. In Punctuated Equilibrium Theory, feedback is essential in
creating policy change. Strong negative feedback form those benefitting under the
current situation can be stop a policy change. Positive feedback often encourages
policy change by attracting newcomers to the new policy and gathering more support.
A policy monopoly s disruption and the feedback this disruption receives are essential
to Punctuated Equilibrium Theory. Punctuated Equilibrium Theory has four
independent variables that must be present to support this theory. The first is a policy
monopoly. Ley defined this as widespread agreement about the issue s definition.

The History of American Literature
The history of American Literature starts well before this land was even called
America. It has been a great evolution to come from tribal symbols and drawings to
today s Stephen King and Danielle Steele. Literature has gone through many
phases and was impacted by great events and ideas in American history. The
earliest form of literature in what would one day be known as America were far
from what modern day people would consider Literature . The Natives who
inhabited this land first had unwritten ways of passing on experiences, beliefs, and
stories. Natives relied heavily on the verbal telling of these stories to younger
generations. The same stories, fables, or belief structures were told repeatedly, each

Mather s rewarding career included writings on science and medicine as well as
theology and history. His Sentiments on the Small Pox Inoculated (1721) was
instrumental in introducing the smallpox vaccine to New England. A new genre for
American writers, the travel narrative, would become especially influential late in the
1700s. Travel narratives include Travels Through the Interior Parts of North America
(1778) by Jonathan Carver and Travels Through North and South Carolina, Georgia,
East and West Florida, the Cherokee Country, etc (1791) by William Bartram . Travel
stories often blended observations on nature and landscape with tales of personal
courage and achievement. The first American newspaper, the Boston News Letter,
was founded in 1704, and joined by the Boston Gazette in 1719. At a time when
newspaper journalism was concerned primarily with reporting political events, the
New England Courant, started by James Franklin in 1721, became the first newspaper
to include literary entertainment. Franklin s younger brother Benjamin Franklin
published humorous social commentary in the Courant under the pen name of
Silence Dogwood . Magazines also appeared for the first time in the colonies during
the mid 1700s. Before 1800 magazines were concerned primarily with measuring
America s developing culture against the British model. During the 1700s Boston and
Philadelphia became centers of publishing in addition to being political and
commercial centers.

DOCUMENT ANALYSIS LUCRETIUS: EPICUREAN PHILOSPHY AT ROME
Within Lucretius dialectic and poetic writings in Robert Latham s translation of
Lucretius: On the Nature of the Universe, three major topics are discussed:
philosophy, religion, and science. Lucretius was devoted to the works of his teacher
and renowned philosopher Epicurus, praising him as a prophetic or god like figure.
His poetic prose uses a host of concrete examples to show validity in his beliefs.
Lucretius effectively supports the Epicurean worldview that everything can be
explained by material forces. Memmius is the addressee of the poem, and Lucretius
enlightens him to the nature of happiness, how religion is based on superstition, and
the idea of atoms composing earthly matter. Evaluating reality gives mankind the
natural answers to life s questions without concerning themselves with gods,
prophets, or beliefs, and this was Lucretius main task in his work. Lucretius was a
Roman poet who believed that the Epicurean systems provided the most important
and valuable way of thinking. He pledged all of his poetic and persuasive writing
skills towards presenting Epicurus teachings in a concise expose. A key Epicurean
doctrine which he explores is the concept of the Nature of Happiness. Philosophy, in
this mindset, is a refuge from the trials and tribulations of the
Essay On Prehistory And History
Prehistory literally means before history . It is derived from the Latin word which
means before (Prehistory Wikipedia, 2011). This was the era when there were no
written records yet about the existence of the first wave of ancient humans. This was
also the time when the periods were divided into subgroup system which consists of
the Stone Age, Bronze Age and the Iron Age.
Prehistory gave rise to the emergence of civilizations. This was also the time when the
evolution of the early human beings was influenced by some inventions such as the
writing system. So basically, prehistory is the time when the first set of human beings
came into existence along with their discoveries and inventions.
History (from Greek бј±ПѓП„ОїПЃОЇО±, historia, meaning inquiry, knowledge
acquired by investigation )[2] is the study of the past, particularly how it relates to
humans and it can also refer to the academic discipline which uses narrative to
examine and analyze a sequence of past events (History, Wikipedia, 2014). The term
history was coined after Aristotle used it in one his studies called the Inquiries about
animals . However this Greek word in which the term history originated was also

Prehistory that later became a history provides us with details of how people lived
to survive during those early ages when there is no technological developments yet.
So these historical events and information serve as an inspiration and foundation for
us to keep growing and improving as long as we preserve the ancient tradition and
culture. Both the prehistory and history has been an instrument on how our cultural
heritage was shaped. That is why if we have some confusions about our heritage, we
always go back to how it started in the prehistoric era and what were recorded as
Essay On Vietnam War Foreign Policy
Foreign policy is one of the deadliest forces the United States has ever seen. It is
what sends away thousands of Americans to fight for our Nation. During the
Vietnam era, a staggering number of men were drafted to go fight overseas in a war
against Communism. It was not them signing their draft cards, it was foreign policy
signing it for them. The mere fact we no longer have the draft is due to what we
learned during this extended war. The United Statesdecided to take the Vietnam War
and turn it into a learning experience. These experiences have a direct impact on the
lives of American citizens even today, because of how foreign policywas changed
after the war. Foreign policy is not only important to our Nation as a whole, it also
impacts each and every citizen. A highly contested topic of the recent Presidential
election was foreign policy. It loomed over the political candidates as one of the most
important deciding factors in the election. In a speech at Westminster College,
Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another major factor did not have a specific name, but still proved to be behind
many of the decisions during the era. When our leaders began to assess what other
factors should be changed in the new era, it was decided a new show of confidence
should be displayed. For the most part, it was agreed upon that America had gotten
over confident coming off the second World War. This excess of confidence set us
up for the major issues that resulted from the Vietnam War. When reflecting on how
confidence would be used moving forward, it was decided that confidence was still
key, just in new ways. If we were going to try and maintain our position globally, we
had to act like a nation on the top. The Vietnam War gave us the right amount of
confidence to continue our internationalist approach and eventually come out of the

Managing Marketing Channels: Zara|
One global retailer is expanding at a dizzying pace. It s on track for what appears to
be world domination of its industry. Having built its own state of the art distribution
network, the company is leaving the competition in the dust in terms of sales and
profits, not to mention speed of inventory management and turnover. Wal Mart you
might think? Dell possibly? Although these two retail giants definitely fit the
description, we re talking here about Zara, the flagship specialty chain of Spain based
clothing conglomerate, Inditex.

In 1975, Amancio Ortega opened the first Zara store in Spain s remote northwest
town of La Coruna, home to Zara s headquarters. Having already worked in the
textile industry for two decades, his experience led him to design a system in which
he could control every aspect of the supply chain, from design and production to
distribution and retailing. He knew, for example, that in the textile business, the
biggest mark ups were made by wholesalers and retailers. He was determined to
maintain control over these activities.
Ortega s original philosophy forms the heart of Zara s unique, rapid fire supply chain
today. But it s Zara s high tech information system that has taken vertical integration
in the company to an unprecedented level. According to CEO Pablo Isla, Our
information system is absolutely avant guard. It s what links the shop to our
designers and our distribution system.
Zara s vertically integrated system makes the starting point of a product concept
hard to nail down. At Zara s headquarters, creative teams of more than 300
professionals carry out the design process. But they act on information fed to them
from the stores. This goes far beyond typical point of sales data. Store managers act
as trend spotters. Every day they report hot fads to headquarters, enabling popular
lines to be tweaked and slow movers to be whisked away within hours. If customers
are asking for a rounded neck on a vest rather than a V neck, such an item can be in

Advantages And Disadvantages Of E-Payment In Nigeria

Trade generally involves the exchange of goods and services for corresponding
abstract value like money. [1] Money is been used as an abstract way to represent

What Is The History Of Betty Friedan And The Feminist...
Throughout history, many women have engaged in playing a bigger role in the
society. They have strived for expansion of their power in the nation. The greatest
battle for them was in the 1960s. There were very limited things they could do. A
woman at this time period was expected to get married by the age of 20 and
dedicate the rest of her life to her husband and homemaking. She was expected a lot
only to take care of her kids and husband. They had no legal right to her husband
earning or property but the husband had legal rights to his wife properties. They
were never welcomed to professional jobs like doctor, lawyer, and engineer. Even if
they did get a job they were discriminated and paid really low wages. They were
never given the opportunities to achieve jobs that would pay them higher because
they thought they would be pregnant and quit the jobs and they do not have a family
that needs financial support, unlike males. All of these caused the feminist movement
where they fought for more freedom for girls and less restriction put into them.
Betty Friedan who was born in February 4,1921in Peoria Illinois. She was an
American writer, Activist, and feminist. In 1966, she was co founded and elected as
the first president of the National Organization for women, which is also referred to
as (NOW). The main goal of the organization was to bring women into the equal level
as the men s in the American society. Friedan was the main figure in the women s

foreshadow to the audience his imminent downfall. He believes what Iago tells him
so strongly that he compromises his close relationship with his best friend and his
love for his wife. Iago manipulates Othello through the use of extortion, literary

By using short, choppy sentence structure and weak diction, he seems less of a
threat to Othello and his innocence is enhanced through it. Also, by always using
rhetorical questions, he never does address what it is Othello is talking about.
Iago distorts Othello s thoughts and gets him to think he knows much more than
he is telling him about the entire affair. This becomes especially clear when
Othello asks for ocular proof and Iago confirms he has it using statements like I
should be wise; for honesty s a fool and looses that it works for, Act III Scene iii
line 378 379, meaning he should not tell Othello what he knows or it would ruin
Iago s reputation. This sets Othello s suspicions aflame and soon Iago is relaying to
him the story about Cassio s dream about he and Desdemona, and finally, he closes
with the handkerchief, the most powerful thing which Othello held as a sacred gift of
love to his wife. He is then completely overcome with jealousy and scorn for his
former lover and friend, wanting death for the both of them. Throughout this passage,
Iago s main techniques of deception include lies, syntax and diction, and hoodwinking
Othello into thinking his way. By quickly averting his conflict with Othello at the
start of the scene, he easily avoids confrontation

Day night, ragtime musicdanced out of the neighborhood honky tonks. At night,
Little Louis fell asleep to the sad songs of the local blues singers. Those sorrowful
songs sounded like they were full of all the pain in the world.
Little Louis enjoyed all kinds of music, but he loved the music played by the brass
bands most of all. Sometimes after a parade, Joe king Oliver, the best cornet player in
New Orleans, would let Louis carry his cornet case. Little Louis wanted to make
music too. He wanted to play a cornet just like King Oliver.
In music, Armstrong discovered the path to success, after a New Year s eve prank
in 1913. He had taken his stepfathers .38 caliber pistol and six blanks and fired
them into the air. Before he knew what was happening, a policeman had grabbed
Little Louis by the arm. Off went Little Louis in the custody of the New Orleans
police. The judge decided to send him to the Colored Waifs Home for boys to keep
him out of trouble.
The home gave poor boys a chance to finish school and learn a trade. A military
man, Captain Joseph Jones and his wife ran it. He ran the home military style.
Little Louis was heart broken and home sick. Then one day he heard a brass band
playing. He followed the music and found himself in a room full of boys and
instruments. He went to band rehearsal everyday and finally he was asked to join the
band.
The conductor of the band, Mr. Davis, first gave him a tambourine. Then Louis tried

Anthrax (Bacillus Anthracis) Essay
Anthrax (Bacillus anthracis) is an acute infectious disease caused by the spore
forming bacterium. The most common victims of anthrax are warm blooded animals,
but it can also infect humans. Anthrax spores can be produced in a powdery form for
biological warfare. When inhaled by humans, these particles cause respiratory failure
and death within a week. Because anthraxis considered to be a potential agent for use
in biological warfare, the Department of Defense (DOD), in 1998, announced it
would begin a systematic vaccination of all U.S. militarypersonnel. (DOD, 1998)

Inhalation: Initial symptoms may resemble a common cold. After several days, the
symptoms may progress to severe breathing problems and shock. Inhalation anthrax
usually results in death in 1 2 days after onset of the acute symptoms.
Intestinal: The intestinal disease form of anthrax may follow ingestion of
contaminated meat and is characterized by an acute inflammation of the intestinal
tract. Nausea, loss of appetite, vomiting and fever are followed by abdominal pain,
vomiting of blood, and severe diarrhea. Intestinal anthrax results in death in 25% to
60% of cases. The incubation period is usually within seven days. There are no
reports of the disease spreading from human to human. Direct person to person
spread of anthrax most likely does not occur. Once a person has been infected with
anthrax and survived, a second bout with this disease is unlikely.
To treat anthrax, doctors can prescribe antibiotics. Usually penicillin based
antibiotics such as Cipro are preferred, but erythromycin, tetracycline, or
chloramphenicol can also be used. To be effective, treatment should be initiated
early. The disease could be fatal if left untreated. (Sofaer, et al, 1999)

Anthrax vaccine is available for people in high risk occupations. To prevent anthrax,

  • 3. King Tut s Death Since his tomb s discovery, King Tutankhamun s death has been debated by many scholars and anyone who is interested. The ideas proposed by these scholars are constantly being challenged by other evidence suggesting otherwise. The young King s early death has been a very debatable topic, but evidence clearly points to the theory that his death was caused by an accident that broke his femur which got infected and nobody knew how to treat it. The discovery of the young King Tutankhamuns tomb provided some insight on his life as a pharaoh. Tut s tomb has been the only tomb that has been relatively untouched by tomb raiders, giving egyptologists so much more information than any other tomb in the Valley of Kings (Caselli 12 14). Egyptologist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a Smithsonian article by Matthew Shaer, titled The Controversial Afterlife of King Tut , he mentions that Zahi Hawass and his team noticed a break in his lower left femur seemed different than the breaks made by Carter. The break was ragged rather than sharp. This suggests that it was broken when he was alive. In the same article, Shaer also says that they noticed two layers of embalming material in the wound. History.com talks about how nobody knew that wounds needed to be kept clean so the wound would become infected with gangrene causing the leg to triple in size (History.com). This would explain why King Tut seems to have a club foot . The infection could have been caused by an accident involving a chariot, an animal, or both while hunting. Not much can contradict the evidence put forth proving that he must have died due to an infection in his lower left femur. In Matthew Shaer s The Controversial Afterlife of King Tut , he mentions that two scientists, who both examined the CT, scans believed that there was not enough evidence to prove the broken femur theory (Shaer). They are correct, but at this point, the broken femur theory is most plausible with the most compelling evidence compared to any other theory proposed. The mysteries of King Tut s life and more interesting death may be

In fact, they are the ones that initiated programs to decrease the lead exposure to its workers. Whenever employees receive a doctor s report stating that his or her lead blood levels are high, they would be transferred out with benefits. It s been proven that lead is toxic and can have ill effects on an unborn child, and these effects may not manifest themselves immediately at birth. In addition to that, lead levels that may be safe for a fully grown adult are still toxic to a developing infant fetus. The policy established in 1977 did not result in protecting women and their children from excess lead levels. During the beginning stages of conception, the ill effects... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In any realm of the world, it is always better to be safe than sorry. The decision made should be that the company change it policy and implement the one that requires complete exclusions of women with childbearing capacity from high lead exposure positions. According to the law book, Consequentialism deals with the ethics and morality of the consequence of actions instead of the actual actions themselves, so in other words, lying itself is not unethical, but the results of lying may indeed be unethical. While it may not be fair or necessarily ethical to exclude women from those toxic environments, the end result of the policy change would be ethical because it would prevent the lead from ever having the chance of affecting the potential unplanned child. The potential unborn child is the most affected from the policy change and stands to gain the most out of it; by implementing the policy, it would give the children of any unplanned pregnancies the opportunity to live a normal life without any defects due to the absence of toxic lead levels. The end result of a healthy baby justifies the means of potential unethical exclusion of women from a toxic even if they want to environment. In order to enforce and monitor the policy, any potential eligible women who wish to work in the toxic lead environment would be subject to a medical examination in order to confirm that the woman is

Plagiarism In Purdue Owl s Intellectual Property Plagarism Date: 9/2/15 Plagiarism is essentially using work from somebody else and not giving them credit but claiming it as your own work, also considered theft of another s intellectual property. Intellectual property is defined as work, inventions, or ideas created by another person. According to the law, these applications are provided to us as a basic human right where a person can claim their property while reducing the risk of theft by the protection of the Intellectual Property Law (Electronic Frontier Foundation). Try writing your paraphrase or summary of a text without looking at the original, relying only on your memory and notes (Stolley 2014). Then the Victorian scholar Arthur Hugh Clough remarked in an introduction: It cannot be denied that [Plutarch] is careless about numbers, and occasionally contradicts his own statements. A greater fault, perhaps, is his passion for anecdote; he cannot forbear from repeating stories, the improbability of which he is the first to recognise. (Smithsonian.com). • 11. Coach Chet s Effect On The Greenwave Girls Chance at Revenge Being in sports can be both challenging and rewarding at times. Being brutally defeated can make you feel like you re at rock bottom, while winning a championship game can make you feel as if you re on the top of the world. This is a story about a basketball team who finally stepped up to their biggest rival of all, showing the other team and themselves that anything is possible. The East Grand Forks (EGF) Greenwave Girls basketball team had been playing basketball together since first grade, plus or minus a few players. The majority of them played for the love of the game, no matter if they win or lose. They were no all star team that destroyed and dominated every opponent they took on; just an average team with wins and losses scattered around the grid. The sound of basketballs bouncing and the squeaking of basketball shoes burning rubber on the floor meant that it was almost game time. The Greenwave girls were extremely anxious. Coach Chet had sparked a new confidence in them, and their anxiety and fear quickly turned into anger and determination to give their long time enemy a taste of their own medicine. Somehow, the fear of destroying their record and losing a chance at revenge still lingered in the back of their minds. All of a sudden, the ref blew the whistle for the jump
  • 12. A Critical Evaluation of the Deductive Argument from Evil Critically Evaluate the Deductive Argument from Evil Logically, can Evil and the three O God co exist in this universe? The deductive argument from evil says they cannot. In this essay I will explain the argument and analyze why it is valid but unsound. I will do this by discussing fallacious nature of the premise that if God were omnipotent and knew he could prevent the existence of evil without sacrificing some greater good he would then necessarily prevent it. The essay will propose the following evaluation of the deductive argument from Evil: that each premise logically follows from its antecedent, but that the concepts in the premises themselves are not entirely understood and can be refuted. God s Omni benevolence, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An even further analysis of the issue of misinterpretation of Omni benevolence, or false assumptions about God s nature, is the claim that the deductive argument from evil contains a referential fallacy; presuming that all words refer to existing things and that their meaning lies in what the refer to. This claim of the unsound nature of the argument asserts that the deductive argument from evil fallaciously assumes the idea of Omni benevolence is defined by existing ideas and worldly concepts of all good nature . It is logically possibly, however, that God s perfect goodness is beyond man s understanding and cannot be defined by actions or non actions relating to the evil of this world. Thus leading to the false conviction that God need necessarily eliminate all evil from the world in order to be inherently good. These forms of counter arguments to the deductive explanation of evil s non compatibility with God can be refuted. The following are defenses for the deductive argument that support the primary understanding of God s Omni benevolence as mandating the elimination of all existing evil. Firstly, Omni benevolence is a description of God s absolutely good nature and entails that God desires everything that is good. This desire to bring about good things also means a desire to prevent evil things from happening. Hence God s good nature doesn t need to necessarily lead to no omission of good actions, but it does lead to the necessary idea that God

It is a stylistic genre of horror that uses a set of characteristics to cause a sense of fear in the audience or readers. The Turn of the Screw, by Henry James, who also wrote his story in 1898 during the Victorian area, uses gothic horror conventions to reflect the complexity of the human psyche which, leaves the audience with a sense of ambiguity, or fear of the unknown. The Turn of the Screw is a great short storythat uses rhetorical and literary devices to express a ghost story. The story involves a governess who becomes obsessed with the idea of trying to prove that there are ghosts in the household, while also trying to do her job of protecting the children. She often encounters two ghosts that she believes are trying to corrupt her pupils, and are also communicating with them without her knowing. Henry Jamesuses his story to invoke the fears of the Victorian era; fears of which include the corruption of children, potential evil, and the reliability of a governess in a household. In our world, people are often asking themselves if they can ever trust having someone entering their home. In The Turn of the Screw, Henry James uses the fear of reliability to trigger the audience s fear of trusting someone into their home. For example, in his short story, the governess questions what happened to the previous governess. Mrs. Grose then proceeds to state, The last governess? She was also young and pretty almost as young and almost as pretty, Miss, even as you, (James 130). Mrs. Grose implies that there was an affair and because of it, the previous governess is no longer there. It can later be seen that Mrs. Grose is suggesting that the current governess may cause trouble and end up being in the same position as the previous governess; especially when Mrs. Grose says, ...almost as young and almost as pretty, Miss, even as you, (James 130). The audience then becomes fearful and more cautious of their choices because they wouldn t want this situation to occur to them. In There is a strong prejudice against governess by Mary Maurice, the author states that in the Victorian era, governesses often have

This concept of conserving their honor above all else is the source of the society s problem, they all mask themselves from the truth because they are frightened by it. This is demonstrated by Angela s mother, Purisima del Carmen, when she beats Angela for supposedly not being a virgin, she was holding me by the hair with one hand and beating me with the other with such rage that I thought she was going to kill me (MГЎrquez 46). By suppressing themselves, the women of the society give into the expectation set by Machismo. The smokinese are a group of people that worship nicotine. Id honestly love to be apart of that. I mean I love the smell of it in the air, the feeling of polluted air. Nothing gets better than that. In reality smokingis the only relief to take away pain these days. I mean what other reason would people put something so horrible into their body if it didn t relieve any type of stress or good feeling. I live for the day to see everyone to have lung cancer and killing themselves for just being vulnerable about stress relief. I mean people preach smoking nowadays. People wanna go back to the way of smoking in a restaurant and people recommend it, it s a religion that s being created without anyone understanding. As the smokinese people believe that the only way to live a happy and stress free life is to become addicted to smoking, they sure are right. Many things are done and decided based on the benefits received. Either through the great profit they can make by using the limited resources we have or by using the resources we have excessively and wastefully, without thinking of the consequences it will have on us and for later generations. It is hard to find a balance between sustainabilityand our economy. Economic growth however, also depends on a sustaining and functional environment. LEED is an organization that does not successfully evaluate the sustainability of a building. Instead some other organizations does better at evaluating in detail and continuously of how it is sustainable and how it has continued to be more eco friendly. Politics is connected to natural resources, the issue of global warming, and sustainability. In order for the economy to grow, it feeds on natural resources that produces waste and pollutes the earth and the air. This threatens the environment and the eco system in which our lives depend. The use of natural resources exceeds the amount the earth can undertake and recover. And the foundation of all our economic growth is built upon the counterbalance of the resources spent and recovered. Therefore, it can be taken away anytime; when our planet can t supply and take the amount we are asking from anymore, we would have lost everything, the economy, environment and our lives. China is

Analysis Of All Summer In A Day Prakriti Bhattarai Period ВЅ 11 17 17 All Summer in a Day Harassment, bullying, isolation and depression are things a nine year old should not be experiencing, but for a little girl living who s living on Venus, this is exactly what is happening. The short story All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury , takes place on the planet Venus where everyday is like the next, full of rain. To the residents of Venus, this is normal, unless you just moved here five years ago. This is the case for Margot who has to deal with the torture of remembering life on Earth. Every seven years, the sun shines on Venus. For just two hour, the rain stops pouring and the sky turns blue. Margot has been waiting for this day ever since she moved to Venus. Unfortunately, the other students lock her in the closet and she misses the opportunity to see the sun that she loves and misses so much. A theme throughout the story is that the children of Venus are jealous of Margot because she is different, this is shown when the author describes Margot, when Margot is in the shower, and when the children lock her in the closet. One of the reasons that the children of Venus are jealous of Margot is because of her different experiences. The author writes the biggest crime of all was that she has come here only five years ago from Earth, and she remembered the sun and the away the sun was and the sky (Bradbury 1974). He uses this quote to show the reader the relationship between Margot and her classmates. It shows

As the term suggests, both parties have the ability to end the employment whenever they wish because there are no strings attached to it (Employee Issues, 2012). In a normal contract situation, a person is employed for a specified amount of time and the individual knows that as long as a contract is in force what is expected and the remuneration that comes with the employment. This type of contract comes with a guarantee of employment as long as the individual meets the requirements of the contract. A contract also guarantees the employer that the employee has to fulfill certain obligations by law. In the case of at will employment, there is no contract signed by either party. Even though the employee may interview and have to fill out certain paperwork to obtain the job, they are not contracted for the work. The employee is hired with the understanding that they can leave employment at any time and that the employer can do the same. This also means that the employer is free to change the specifications of the job any time they will (Employee Issues, 2012). Another facet of this type of employment is that the employer is free to choose the type of employee they want. Even if a policy seems discriminatory, the employer is able to apply it if it does not in some way violate the law. As a final note on the definition of such employment, employers will generally

Having visited and stood on it s bridge many times, there is no way to describe the incredible power that one feels just setting foot near the place. In 1922, the Reclamation Service presented a report calling for the development of a dam on the Colorado River for flood control and electric power generation. Even before Congress approved the Boulder Canyon Project, the Bureau of Reclamation was considering what kind of damshould be used. Officials eventually decided on a massive concrete arch gravity dam, the design of which was overseen by the Bureau s chief design engineer John L. Savage. Construction of Hoover Dambegan in 1931, and the last concrete was poured in 1935, two years ahead of schedule. President Franklin D. Roosevelt dedicated the dam on September 30, 1935. The power plant structures were completed in 1936, and the first generator began commercial operation in October of that year. The vital statistics describing Hoover Dam and its benefits are quite impressive on paper, but having visited the location and lived in areas of the country who benefit from the dam, the overwhelming size and impact of the project is made real. The dam is thick at the bottom and thin near the top, and would present a convex face towards the water above the dam. The curving arch of the dam would transmit the water s force into the

In 1961 German historian Fritz Fischer published a controversial book, Germany s War Aims in the First World War. Fischer argued that the German s had plans for war right from the start and that the assassination of the Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand was just an excuse for war. He believed that Germany encouraged Austrian war plans. The counter argument to Fischer s view was presented by another German historian, Gerhard Ritter in his book, Staatskunst und Krieghandwerk: das Problem des Militarism in Deutschland. Ritter believed that Germany was mainly motivated by the desire to keep Austria as a great power and to prevent Russian domination in the Balkans. Ritter stated in his book that Germany had no long term war plan and they were dragged into war by Austria. Furthermore, he believed that Germany miscalculated that Britain would not enter the war. Ritter strongly believed that military plans were necessary for Germany with Russia posing as a threat. This shows how two historians with same context use different methodologies in attempting to find historical truth. Which leads to the question: To what extent is history discovered or invented? Objectivity is taken away when a historian has to select or identify different themes, causes and effects. The choice of language in which these selections are presented also impacts attempts to maintain objectivity when presenting historical
