Aquinas Vs Hobbes
Natural Law initially began in Ancient Greece and was an imperative element in
society. Numerous philosophers had their own particular perspective of natural law
including Thomas Hobbes and Thomas Aquinas. They both depict how we should
function as human beings and as a society with their opposing perspectives on natural
law. I will compare the natural law teachings of Thomas Hobbesand Thomas Aquinas
and their philosophy. I will discuss whose teachings are more persuasive and whom I
agree with.
. Natural Law is said to exist within all of us with the ability of reason.
Contradicting to Aquinas, Hobbes says that in order to do good, we must be forced
to do good by the enforcement of laws. Thomas Aquinas says natural law exists in

There would be a power of authority that would enforce the laws to protect
individuals from the human nature of others. Failure to comply would result in
consequences. The sovereign would control the law, giving onto people what is
moral. He fears without sovereign, man would strive towards power and even
killing. This would threaten the sovereign and result in chaos. Hobbes believes that
everyone will agree to authority because it is in their best interest. After all, human
beings are self centered according to Hobbes. Therefore, human beings voluntarily
surrender freedoms to live in harmony. This was called the Leviathan, and
considered it necessary for social order. I find this more persuasive because it
poseses structure, boundaries and expectations. It holds a clear message that if we
all agree to the law, then we can live in
Essay on Restorative Action for Juvenile Justice Centers
Juvenile justice is the area of criminal law for a person not old enough to be held
responsible for their criminal actions ( Juvenile Justice ). In most states this kind
of categorization is determined by age, set at eighteen years old. In general,
juvenile law is governed by state law and most states have an individual juvenile
code set in place that contributes to the number of youth in detention centers today (
Juvenile Justice ). Despite the lowest youth crime rates in twenty years, according
to Holman and Ziedenberg (2006), hundreds of thousands of juveniles are locked
away each year. Detention centers are intended to provide temporary housing for
youth who are described as having high risk of re offence before trial or who are...

On the other hand, youth in custody for minor crimes, that are not considered a risk
to public safety, may be released to the custody of their parents or guardian, while
awaiting court proceedings ( Detention Services ). Within twenty four hours of
detainment, youth attend their court hearing where the judge decides whether or not
they shall continue serving time in the detention center and if so, how long they
will be detained ( Detention Services ). Generally there is a 21 day limit to secure
detention, but those charged with serious offenses can be held up to 30 days (
Detention Services ). The amount of time detained depends upon the limit, differing
state to state. Detention is the custody status for youth who are held following to a
court order or after being taken into custody for violation of the law ( Detention
Services ). Criteria for detention, according to the Florida Department of Juvenile
Justice, include current offenses, prior history, legal status, and any aggravating or
mitigating factors ( Detention Services ). While in the juvenile centers educational
assessments and full time services are provided to school age youth ( Detention
Services ). These services are funded by the Department of Education through local
school districts ( Detention Services ). Along with educational services; medical,

Violence In Education Program Analysis
Educational programs can help reduce workplace violence, leading to increased
patient and staff satisfaction. The goal is to provide ED nurses with the proper
preparation to handle violent situations. The skills that are learned during the
educational component of the program can be implemented into daily practice to
raise awareness and cultivate a safer working environment. For unfortunate situations
that do turn violent, the training may instill a sense of confidence in the ED nurse on
how to handle the situation properly.
There have been multiple studies that show a reduction in WPV after implementing
educational program. Fernandes et al. (2002) conducted a study that involved

Stakeholders also need to be fully invested in the importance of reporting all violent
incidents. If violence is underreported, data results will be skewed and prevention
efforts will suffer. One study concluded that the underreporting of WPV is due to
nurses perception that reporting will not change the atmosphere because violence is
part a necessary, but unwanted part of the job (Gillespie et al., 2013). Administration
plays a large part in addressing other nurses on the utilization of the reporting system
immediately after every violent event occurs. Administrative leaders in the ED need
to communicate the positive prevention outcomes that result from reporting violent
events. Involving all stakeholders in the implementation process may decrease these
undesirable feelings towards decreasing WPV. A study by Arnetz et al. (2015)
indicated that violence prevention efforts were more sustainable when stakeholders
fully participated in reporting events and developing data reports. Violence reduction
cannot adequately take place until stakeholders definitively embrace their
irreplaceable role in the prevention

she cannot escape it as it slowly becomes a permanent fear of death and loss of

Comparison Of John Finnis And AquinasNatural Law
John Finnis is celebrated for his reworking of Aquinas natural law theory. Finnis is
renowned for his seven basic goods , making reference to the question of how is
your life going , an approximation of human flourishing. Furthermore, for a deeper
analysis, nine methodological requirements of practical reasonableness, utilised to
determine sound decision making, shall conclude the analysis. These two lists
combined are said to create unchallengeable and universal principals of natural law.
Finnis basic notions in regards to natural law are deemed best evident when
intellectual creatures act in a rational manner. Practical reasons is at the core of

the recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all
members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the
world. Amassing thirty articles to abide by, this shows the growth of basic rights of
humanity due to natural law. These basic rights are the foundation for the current
extensive and effective legislation in Australia, but also are evident in Antigone.

legal scholars to apply his analysis to the execution of laws. Aforementioned goods

A Race United Essay
When the first Irish immigrants landed on the eastern shores of America in the 18th
century, they were met by intolerance from the Native whites who saw them as a
threat to the American way of life. The Dangers of Foreign Immigration, an article
written by Samuel Morse in 1835, exposits much of the anti immigrant sentiment
prevalent in the 19th century. To the natives, the Irish were simply niggers turned
inside out (Anonymous Satirism), who came to America as refugees from Ireland to
deprive them of their wealth and prosperity. Thus, the immigrants of Erin were
forced to join the ranks of the slave, the German, and the free Negro laborer at the
very bottom of the American diaspora. But instead of accepting the hand which they

In addition to Irish progress politically, the sons and daughters of Erin also received
help from each other. Written in 1835, The Dangers of Foreign Immigrationwas not
targeted at the earliest wave of Irish immigrants who arrived in the late 18th century.
Unlike later generations, these early Irish Americans were not necessarily Catholic,
and didn t always speak English, but rather Gaelic. By the time the second wave of
Irish immigrants arrived in the mid 19th century, yet more differences existed
between these two waves. Those immigrants who had arrived earlier were by now
relatively more wealthy and established than their more recent counterparts. But
through their common threads Irish men and women, the established communities
provided financial and political aid to their newly arriving brethren. The Shamrock
Friendly Association, an Irish aid group comprised of prosperous Irish American
citizens, published an informational pamphlet in 1816 entitled Hints to Emigrants
from Europe. In it, they tell Irish immigrants that they may derive benefit from the
counsel and guidance of friends, and that if one has gone the road [they] are about to
travel, by only showing [them] how it winds beyond the next hill, (Shamrock
Friendly Association 4) they would be better able to navigate their path in America
successfully. In addition to encouragement, the immigrants also received
A Brief Note On Robert Browning s Porphyria s Lover
And...
Contributory Factors to the Murders in Robert Browning s Porphyria s Lover and
The Laboratory. The word love possesses such complexity and magnitude that people
commonly have a hard time defining it effectively without oversimplifying. Given the
true intensity of feeling, jealousy is often said to be synonymous with being in love
and the real impact love can have on a person can be unpredictable. Considering
this, The Cambridge Dictionary defines a crime of passion as a crime committed
because of very strong emotional feelings, especially in connection with a sexual
relationship. The poems Porphyria s Lover and The Laboratory by Robert Browning,
although significantly different, essentially share the theme of love and jealousy. In
both poems, readers are introduced to the darker side of romance through male and
female speakers so overwhelmed with emotion, they turn to murderas a means of
expression. Using dramatic monologue, Browning brilliantly explores the profound
effect love can have on its victims and the psychological elements leading to a crime
of passion.
A dramatic monologue is defined as a form of monodrama in which the speaker
addresses an assumed listener or group of listeners (Kennedy 72). Although Browning
mastered this genre during the Victorian era, his poems were often greeted with
misunderstanding and indifference (Simpson 1275). Along with his work featuring
grotesque rhymes and jaw breaking diction (Simpson 1275), he was

Rust et al(1996) also defines service as any act or performance that one part can offer
to another that is essentially intangible and does not result in the ownership of
anything, Gronroos(1990) defines service as an activity or series of activity of more
or less intangible nature that normally, but not necessary, take place in interaction
between customers and service employees and/or physical resources or goods and/or
system of service provider, which are provided as solutions to customer problems.
Characteristics of services
Services possess some unique characteristics which differentiate them from goods or
physical products. These peculiar characteristics pose challenges in their delivery and
meeting customers expectation. Services are characterized by intangibility,
inseparability, heterogeneity or variability, lack of ownership and perishability. Due
to this characteristics Kotler (1984) suggested that measuring service quality is
subjective and for this reason marketers strive to put tangible cues as one of the way
to address the challenges of delivering the service and to meet expectation of targeted
customers.
Service quality; Service quality as a subjective phenomenon of service is defined
differently by different scholars;
Manfred et al(2006) defines service quality in terms of customers expectation and
perception of service provided. Zeithaml(1998) considers service quality
The Importance Of Music In My Life
Music is found all around us in our day and age; one can find it to be a difficult
task to escape the presence of music today. Considering the vast presence of music,
what is the impact of this form of modern art? Many are oblivious to the fact that
music is one of the most defining objects in our world; one doesn t simply think
about what it really means deep down. Music has the power to define an
individual, yet, as a whole, we still have not truly realized the power within music
and the relation it has to one s life and experiences. For me, music can be applied to
my dearest memories. It clearly displays the most prominent things in my life
which define who I am. Family and the faith that has been instilled into my life
because of them has played such an important role in my life as far as who I have
been in the past, who I am now, and who I hope to become in the future; thus, my
playlist highlights the defining moments of my life and the correlation between the
two. From the moment I decided that I desired to learn to play the piano, my
grandfather was my most avid supporter. He never thought twice about purchasing
a beautiful piano to keep in his home solely for me. Though my grandfather himself
could not play, he still had a passion for me to achieve my dreams, and clearly he
proved his desire to be at the front row of encouragement. I will never forget my
grandfather s excitement for me to learn something that interested me; he wouldn t

The Meaning Of Freedom
The Meaning of Freedom Freedom has very different meanings to each individual
which makes it hard to find a clear precise definition. The meaning of freedom to
me is the right to do things as I choose. It is the right to act or speak and make my
own choices without restraint. Many people say they would do whatever it takes
to achieve to goal of true freedom, but how far will they really go for their rights?
Can people have freedom and still be responsible citizens? The definition of
freedom might be to some racial equality, equal rights, and gender equality. Just for
this one idea, people have gone as far as risking their lives and the lives of everyone
around them. Freedom is the choice to live one s life and to do what one wants, live...

Freedom does mean to right to do as one pleases, to think, believe, speak, worship,
move about, gather. I believe everyone should act as you choose, but only until
your choices start to infringe on another person s freedom. You can be a
responsible citizen and still enjoy your freedom. Enjoying our freedom does not
mean that we can disregard the rights of others and live the way we feel right. We
also have to consider the rights and the feelings of the other people around us
when living our freedom. We believe in the freedom of people to make their own
mistakes. We do not interfere with them and they should not interfere with others
(Roosevelt, 1905). I observe the rules and traditions of the society. Sometimes I m
not free to act as I want, because I know that it can bring harm to people whom I
love and respect. We really need to live in the society that is restricted. Can you
imagine one where all the people do what they want to? I think that it would turn
into chaos. That s why I stick to the opinion that people should obey the rules of the
society they live in and respect the rights of other people. Freedom is not an
absolute right, and it too has some constraints. A popular saying goes: Your freedom
ends where mine begins. A freedom that poses a threat to the society and the nation
we dwell in is not freedom in real sense. One cannot just violate laws, kill people,
smuggle drugs or doing anything detrimental to the society and call it

characterisation, themes and ideas. Through Orwell s and Fritz s use of dystopic

George Orwells quote The object of power is power is quite strongly supported by
the intertextual connections and shared perspectives of Orwell s 1984 and Lang s

The working class in this film are forced to endure agonising labour in extremely
dangerous environments whilst the upper class, the sons are free to live at their
will. The dystopic setting of the depths becomes evident through Lang s use of
symbolism when the dictator s son, Freder, journeys to the depths and starts to see
the workers being eaten up by the machines in the scene Slaves of the Means of
Production (14.58 17.52). This symbolises the dystopic society in which workers
do not have the right to be safe. This idea forms a contextual connection to the
1920 s Weimar Republic where there were two distinct classes, the conservative
elite, who were free to live at their will, and the workers who were forced to endure
labour with no guarantee for safety. Through the contextual connections of political
reform and the shared perspectives of dystopian societies the quote the object of
power is power is strongly supported by George Orwell s 1984 and Fritz Lang s
Metropolis .
Similarly, the quote the object of power is power is also supported by Orwell s and
Lang s shared perspectives of the rebelling of women and the intertextual connections
of the empowerment of women during the times these texts were created. This is
made evident through the use of juxtaposition throughout the two texts. In Orwell s
1984 the dystopic totalitarianism
Marshfield Fair Reflection
My 4 H story starts at the Marshfield Fair. I used to visit the fair every year, and
dreamed about having an animal like the big kids . Then, as I got older, I stopped
visiting the fair. The idea slowly faded from my mind. Then, when I was in fifth
grade, ne of my friends came in wearing a shirt that had the 4 Hclover on it. When I
asked her about it, she explained that 4 H members are the kids who bring the
animals to the Marshfield Fair. I instantly knew that I wanted to join 4 H.So when I
was 12, I joined the Muddy Buddy swine club. Ever since that first meeting, I realized
that 4 H is my niche. I was never really into sports. I tried everything from soccer to
basketball, but I never felt the same passion that I do for 4 H. I also came... Show

So far, I have started to meet my goals. part of my goal of placing well at the
Marshfield Fair has happened. This is presenting at Marshfield as the show has
not happened yet. My project overall has been pretty successful. I have reached my
goal about learning more about swine because I can now identify more breeds and
diseases that I could not before. If I were to try my project again, I would have
spent even more time training my pig to trust me as the bond is good now but
could be stronger. Through my pig project, I have developed more independence. I
can solve my own problems with the pigs nw. I have also gained more intelligence
and communication skills after teaching the public during Weir River Farm
visiting hour. I have also developed a skill of training pigs as my pig cooperates
now more than my pig from last year. A few people in particular have helped me to
become successful this year. First, Meg Connolly has helped to teach and take care
of my pig. Also, Dean Powers and Ava Barzowski have taught me more about
swine and livestock. Finally, Jenn Moyer has helped me as being my leader and
helping with the paperwork and registering for the fair as well as teaching me more

An Understanding Of A Concept Integrates Cognitive And...
The process of developing an understanding of a concept utilises cognitive and
metacognitive skills. Through the implementation of cognitive strategies, learners
construct knowledge prior to using metacognitive strategies to guide, evaluate and
regulate their learning. Learning is the acquisition of new information which heavily
relies on one s thinking and how they retain the acquired information. It has been said
that successful learners have their special ways of doing it . Therefore, teachers can
be of more support to students academic wellbeing if they are able to understand how
their students think. Consequently, they can enforce teaching strategies which enable
their students to learn more efficiently. This paper will describe... Show more content

The lesson aims to teach Text Types (Recount Text) and equip students with a better
understanding of factual text types, in particular, Recount Text. In regards to the
lessons goals, students are required to engage in oral interactions and share a special
event they have experienced. This activity aims to explain the social function of
recounts after sharing their own experience; to identify the generic structure;
recognise the language features; and ultimately compose their own recount through
the use of Simple Past Tense. The lesson is 60 minutes long and follows previous
lessons on narrative text under the topic of text types. The rationale for doing this
(what are you doing?) is due to the assumption that students have mastered Simple
Past Tense skills from the previous lesson as it is a major component in writing
recounts. An appropriate starting point for sequencing instructions should identify its
structure (lesson structure or instruction s structure?) . According to Woodward
(2001), lessons should consist of three main segments. Firstly, the beginning phase
involves mentally preparing students for learning. Secondly, the central teaching and
learning stage includes pointing out, presenting the core material, activating learning
task and performing the task before providing constructive feedback. Lastly, the end
phase consists of reviewing the lesson s key points and administering quiz
Essay on Letters from a Skeptic
Summary: Dr. Gregory Boyd is a professor of theology at Bethel College. He
attended such universities as the University of Minnesota, Yale Divinity School,
and Princeton Theological Seminary. As well as being a professor he is a
preaching pastor at Woodland Hills Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, and has
authored three books and several articles. This particular book is a dialogue
between he and his father, Edward Boyd. Edward lives in Florida and worked for 35
years in sales management. He has six kids, 15 grandchildren, and nine great
grandchildren. Gregory attempted for years to try and convert his father to Christianity
without any success. About the time he felt like giving up on his father, he felt the

For the most part I really appreciated Gregory s answers and found them to be very
insightful, as well as theologically correct. I liked his defense of God when Edward
blamed Him for all the evil in the world. I also like how he explained the freedom
that God has chosen to give each of us, and that that very freedom, which was
given so that true love could exist, must also bear with it the possibility of evil.
Gregory said in one of his responses If we have the potential to oppress or slay
millions, it s because we also have the potential to liberate and love millions. I
thought Gregory did an exceptional job of explaining salvation to his father as
well. He gave great evidence that the Bible was, in fact, true and reliable. I,
personally, was very pleased with the apologetic effort of Dr. Boyd.
There were just a couple of things that, I did not necessarily disagree with, but that
definitely challenged my way of thinking. The first is about God s omniscience. In
Terry Bowland s Romans class, while discussing Calvinism, we went over this a
little bit. My understanding of what Dr. Bowland believes (I am sure he would
explain it better) is that God does know the future. He knows everything. Before I
was born He knew the choices I would be making today. He did not predestine me
to make these decisions, but because he is Almighty God, He simply knows the
choices that I will make. That all made sense to me until I
Crohn s Disease is Inflammation in the Digestive System
Essay
Crohn s disease is a life long condition effecting victims of any age. It is considered a
form of an inflammatory bowel disease that causes inflammation in the digestive
system. The cause of the disease is unknown. The inflammation is due to the immune
system attacking the healthy cells throughout the body s gastrointestinal tract.
The exact causes of Crohn s disease remain unknown, but most believe that factors
that contribute to the disease may include genetics, immune system, environment, etc.
The immune system does play an important role in causing Crohn s disease. The
immune system protects the body from infection and other harmful substances. With
this particular disease, the immune system will attack things like food, bacteria, and

There are many tests are used to diagnosis patients with Crohn s disease. Blood tests

Blood tests often show inflammation in the body. Anemia is common among
patients that have Crohn s disease. A colonoscopy is required to help confirm if the
Patient has Crohn s disease. Most patients will have abnormalities in the intestinal

Currently there is no cure for Crohn s disease. Treatment results differ from patient to
patient. The goal of treatments is to reduce inflammation and provide some relief of
the symptoms and may lead to long term remission. Crohn s disease treatments
usually involve drug therapy and in certain cases surgery is an option.
Drugs that help treat Crohn s disease include anti inflammatory drugs, Immune

added risk of developing cancer such as lymphoma.
If lifestyle changers and therapies and other treatments don t relive your signs and

Nella Larsen Gender
Race and sexual ideology are interconnecting all throughout both of these novels.
Being a black woman meant that you had obligations. For example, Nella Larsen,
in her novel ripped off the bandage of what it was like to be a black woman who
could pass as a white woman. She took pride in being who she was even if it hurt
to know that she couldn t express her true feelings. Who could really understand
what she was going through because her husband was set in his own ways being a
successful black man, but it was her friend Claire that made her realize that it is
more to live for than being in hiding with her true feelings trapped inside. Clare
passed just as much as Irene did, but was living a lie that eventually got her killed.
Irene stood by her notion that, Everything can t be explained by some general
biological phrase (Larsen, 30). Meaning that the color of skin was only one part of
herself that defined her but there was more to her it seems that no one exactly
wanted to seek to find out. Clare s husband claims that he doesn t know that his
wife is actually black and this traps Clare in a life of uncertainty. She adores the
world of privilege that she gets to partake in instead of being treated unfairly as the
other black women are being treated during this era. This is the true examination of
how black women were described as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Does God Exist In Every Possible World
2. If it is possible that a maximally great being exists, then a maximally great being
exists in some possible world.
3. If a maximally great being exists in some possible world, then it exists in every
possible world.
4. If a maximally great being exists in every possible world, then it exists in the
actual world.
5. Therefore, a maximally great being exists in the actual world.
6. Therefore, a maximally great being exists.
7. Therefore, God exists.
Now it might be a surprise to learn that steps 2 7 of this argument are relatively
uncontroversial. Most philosophers would agree that if God s existence is even
possible, then he must exist. So the whole question is: Is God s existence possible?
The atheist has to maintain that it s impossible
Symbolism In The Birthmark By Nathaniel Hawthorne
Nathaniel Hawthorne, in his short story The Birthmark (written and published prior
to 1843), contains the element of symbolism to present the theme of personal
beauty, regardless of physical appearance. More specifically, he speaks of the
appearance of Georgiana, the wife of Aylmer, who had a very large birthmark, or
blemish that appeared upon birth. God made every individual perfect, and made it
very clear that man not need go tampering with the beauty, inner or external, that God
gave someone at the moment of their birth birth. The style Hawthorne chose
describes each symbol with great detail . For example, when Hawthorne describes the
birthmark in detail; ...But if any shifting motion caused her to turn pale there was the
mark again,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Aylmer tries to destroy Georgiana s human nature [her birthmark, in
which born with], thus destroying her life, because she essentially contained no
beauty on the outside (Rosenberg, The Best The Earth Has To Offer). Aylmer
wanted to cure his wife from the birthmark she had that he so dreaded. He looked at
his wife as being Shocking (Hawthorne, The Birthmark). Another example would be
when Aminabad looked at Georgiana with the identity given to her, not the identity
her husband wants for her . ...Aminadab, looking intently at the lifeless form of
Georgiana; and then he muttered to himself, If she were my wife, I d never part with
that birthmark. Aminadab shows large levels of content with the appearance and
features of Georgiana, that he would have never tampered with the features given to
her at birth, opposed to Aylmer, who wanted to change the way she looked, that she
be more beautiful to him (Rosenberg, The best the Earth has to Offer). A third
example of this theme would be That Georgiana Wants Her husband to love her the
way she is, and in the beginning of the story, gets rather upset at him. Shocks you, my
husband! cried Georgiana, deeply hurt; at first reddening with momentary anger, but
then bursting into tears. Then why did you take me from my mother s side?
(Hawthorne, The Birthmark).

Crooks Concert Review Essay
When you see a band live, you arrive with a certain level of expectation. Live music
is about atmosphere, energy and a certain sense of intimacy that comes with seeing a
band or artist recreate their art for you on stage. If your expectations are met, you
leave not only happy, but with a deeper connection with the bandthereafter. I had
Crooks at a disadvantage before this show as my expectations had been simmering
ever since their debut EP Nevermore captivated me back in 2012. Despite this
internal pressure, it took only the first minute of the evening s opening track to realise
that my expectations were about to boil over.
Crooks are a five piece act from Cheltenham in the UK, playing a fast, energetic
brand of post hardcore accentuated by regular tempo changes, melodic vocals and
intricate guitar work. It s a formula that has recently earned them a record deal with
Headphone Music, an indent of Equal Vision Records, who will be releasing the band
s debut full length album later this year. It s also a formula that leaves a lasting
impression in a live setting. The drums hit you first; heavy hitting, fast and frenetic
but played with absolute precision, setting the momentum for the whole set with
constant rhythmic inertia. The guitar work is tight and intricate during the softer
moments, yet angular and biting when the aggression is needed, providing the ...

The New Of Colonial America
America
Colonial America was the era when America was made up of different colonies; in
this case there were thirteen. Colonial America lasted from 1587 to 1770, 183 years
long. As said before, there were thirteen colonies: four New England colonies, four
Middle colonies, and five Southern colonies. The New England colonies were New
Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, otherwise known as the
Massachusetts Bay Colony. The four Middle colonies were New York, Delaware,
New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina,
and Maryland made up the Southern colonies. These colonies were located in
North America, along the Atlantic coast. Although these were the main colony
groups, the very first colony was founded at Jamestown, Virginia, in 1607. People
settled in the colonies in North America to have a better life, and to escape
persecution from people with different beliefs. The next colony, founded in 1620 by
the Pilgrims, was Plymouth, Massachusetts. Native Americans assisted the Pilgrims
when they first arrived at Plymouth. Two of the Native Americans were Samoset
and Squanto, an English speaking Pawtuxet, who was kidnapped by Europeans, but
was later freed. Another colony that was helped by Native Americans was Virginia,
where tobacco was used as a cash crop that helped Virginia prosper. The colonies in
Colonial America not only prospered from cash crops, but slaves as well. African
Americans were brought in on trade ships

gain and sagging skin, often remain long after childbirth.
If pregnancy has wrecked havoc on your body and you are a bit sad about your

mother with stretch marks, loose skin and lax muscles. The excess fat and loose skin

Weight gain is inevitable during pregnancy. It s normal, healthy and also necessary,
albeit in reasonable measures. Putting on too much weight is not a good sign. The
unwanted fat deposits in the neck, arms, back and knees that do not go away after
pregnancy can be addressed through liposuction.

Infancy and Early Childhood Development Every human being begins developing in
one way or another, from the moment they come into this world. Development and all
its aspects begin in infancy and continue throughout one s entire lifetime. It is a
common belief that infants and young children are influenced by the environment
that surrounds them. Cognitive and social aspects of development are shaped and
molded at an early age, as well as language, speech, perception, and motor skills. A
young child s life is influenced by parents and family members, which is why they

Infants need an adequate amount of care, affection, attention and intellectual
stimulation to develop properly. The caregiver s level of involvement in a child s
life not only influences the child s psychological development but can also affect the
child s biological development (Belsky, 2008). If an infant is not properly stimulated
for an extended period, he or she may experience difficulty developing sensations,
motor skills, and perceptions, at a proper level. Just as an adult cannot learn
something new without being taught, the same important principle also applies to
infancy and early childhood development. Parenting Styles There are different styles
of parenting styles. The four primary styles are: authoritarian, permissive, uninvolved,
and authoritative. Each parenting style is unique and has characteristics that are
distinct to that particular style, and that apply to the way in which parent raise their
children. Parents whose parenting style falls under the authoritarian approach, are
typically overbearing and do not feel the need to explain themselves to the child. A
child raised in an authoritarian atmosphere does not enjoy much freedom and rarely
makes decisions for him or herself. The authoritarian approach may potentially
backfire and cause the child to ultimately rebel against the parents or other authority

characterized the same, which was the American homemaker better known as the
housewife. The husband was in control and in charge. In the book, Signs Of Life In
The USA the report titled GenderRole Behaviors and Attitudes by Aaron Devor states
that These two clusters of attributes are most commonly seen as mirror images of on

femininity by passivity and submission (505). These are the thing that the feminism

Girl With A Pearl Earring By Johannes Vermeer
Think Piece #2 Pictures
1. The painting I chose is Girl with a Pearl Earring created by Johannes Vermeer. http:
//www.artble.com/imgs/8/8/c/218507/girl_with_a_pearl_earring.jpg
2. In this painting a beautiful young girl is depicted. She is wearing a dress with
headscarf as well as a pearl earring. She is looking to the side with a conflicting
expression on her face. The colors used in this painting are subtle. Vermeer s use of
blue, yellow, and brown are most prominent. The background is set as a dark black
color.
3. Three elements and principles that were used in this painting are; 1. the element of
color was used in a Harmonious way, 2. the element of texture in this painting is
more visual than physical and was used with the repetition of variation, and 3. the
element of line was used in a way that created unity within the painting. ... Show

The elements used in the painting all play a substantial part in the feeling and
meaning behind the art. The way Vermeer used the lighter colors against the black
background makes the girl in the painting seem three dimensional which makes for a
very beautiful effect. Although he only used few colors the intensity is enough to
make her stand out. The use of light also helps to bring out the feeling in her eyes
and face. Something that s very intriguing is how you can t quite tell what her
emotions are. The uses of color and texture really create that veil of
Ethics Of Eating
After reading Singer and Mason, The Ethics of Eating Meat, I do not feel prepared
to change any of my eating habits. Although the authors provide profound insight
on the treatment of animals in America on Factory Farms versus Polyface Farms I
am still skeptical about how one could be more humane than the other when in both
cases the animals are produced to be slaughtered and sold for human consumption.
Because there is not really a way to ensure the slaughter of cattle is humane or not I
do not see myself becoming a conscientious omnivore. On the other hand, I agree
that some aspects of Factory farming should not be acceptable. I strongly believe
that laws should be put in place to help regulate better treatment of animals during
the duration of their lives on Factory Farms. One of the reasons why I do not feel
prepared to change my eatinghabits is because of the high cost of eating organic
foods, or a vegan/vegetarian diet. Being an unemployed high school student leaves
me little to not option about what I have to eat. Most of the time what I consume is
based on what my parents have decided to cook for that day. Because Factory Farms

This would lead to multiple health benefits including lowering cholesterol, blood
pressure, and increasing antioxidant intake. (Bhide.) Vegans also have a less likely
chance of being diagnosed with heart disease and type two diabetes. Although there
are many benefits of consuming little to no animal based products there are also
some health risks related to the diet change that are life threatening. One of the
harmful side effects of a vegan diet is a vitamin B12deficiency. B12plays a vital role
in both the normal functioning of the brain, and reduction in healthy red blood cells.
If left untreated aB12deficiency can cause nervous system damage or anemia. (Mayo

The Difference Between The Winter Olympics And The
Winter...
Introduction
Welcome to the world of sport. A fast, competitive and difficult walk of life, where
only the determined and hardworking succeed. Any form of physical exercise
requires coordination, skill, strength and the basic motor movements. Physical
disability impairs many people from being able to compete at the level of able bodied
people.
The Olympic Games Started in 1896. Started for all those able bodied sportsmen
and woman looking for universal competition. In later years the Paralympics was
started for war veterans. In 1960 it was no longer exclusive to war veterans and was
opened to all those living with disabilities.
What is the difference between the winter Olympics and the winter Paralympics in
terms of qualification and concessions?
The winter Olympic games:
Alpine skiing, biathlon, bobsleigh, cross country skiing, curling, figure skating,
freestyle skiing, ice hockey, luge, Nordic combined, short track speed skating,
skeleton, ski jumping, snowboarding and speed skating are all 15 sports that take
part in the winter Olympics. With each one of these sports you need physical
strength, mental strength and a fully functional body. The criterion for each sport is

Being disabled is a very unfortunate thing, whether you were born disabled or later
became impaired either way it is still difficult to cope with. Sport however is one
way in which physically or mentally disabled people can enjoy time being active
and at the same time stimulate muscle movement and growth. The Paralympics is
for those who are disabled in some way but are still capable of preforming. The
Paralympics has set concessions and requirements for those competing and the
competitor s level of disability is assessed prior. There are different categories set for
the disabled and their physical and mental abilities are assessed and they are then
placed in their certain categories. To compete at the Paralympics you have to have fit
into one or more of the following
The Problem Of Smoking
The smoking problem has become quite prevalent in our society. Several governments
have had problems dealing with a huge health care burden due to diseases and
conditions brought about by smoking. At the same time, individuals suffer several
addictive and health issues due to smoking. While this information may be apparent
to most of the smokers, studies have found that quitting a smokinghabit is quite a
challenge. The reason behind such challenge is attributed to Nicotine. Nicotine is an
addictive substance naturally occurring in Tobacco. Nicotine, just like any other
addictive substance creates a new feeling to the user. It creates feeling associated with
drug such as cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine. It gives the users the perception
that they are managing feelings of depression, anxiety, fear and loneliness. However,
just as other drugs, the additive extent of nicotine is quite wide. Nicotine users tend to
develop a high physical dependence on nicotine to a point that normal physical
functionality is inhibited without smoking. Either, emotional and mental dependence
on nicotine is expected and in the end, a nicotine user becomes fully hinged to
smoking. Therefore, an attempt to stop quit is usually a difficult undertaking due to
the emotional, mental and physical attachment to the nicotine. This paper will
provide a step by step process that would assist a smoker to quit.
Step I: Decision
The first step in quitting smoking is by making a vital decision that there
Examples Of Modernism
59. modernism the movement that is currently in effect. Suzanne Collins is an
example of a modern writer. 60. mood the emotional feeling a reader has while
reading that is intentionally inflicted by the author. For example, the mood
established at the beginning of the play Macbeth is evil and ominous because of
the eerie connotations of the diction and haunting atmosphere. 61. naturalism a
literary movement that sought to achieve every day realism. Jack London s Call
of the Wild was part of the naturalism movement. It is told from the perspective of a
sled dog. 62. neologism a word that takes on new meaning or a recently created
word. For example, the word selfie was not made an official word until recently. 63.
ode a type of poem that is lyrical but short in length; meant to praise someone or
something. John Milton s poem On the Morning of Christ s Nativity is an example of

parable a simple story with a moral lesson at the end. The Tortoise and the Hare is
one of the most famous examples of a parable. It teaches the reader that Slow and
steady wins the race. 65. paradox a statement that is true, yet contradicts itself
nonetheless. Many examples of paradoxes can be found in the first few scenes of
Shakespeare s play Macbeth. One in particular is when the witches say, Fair is foul,
foul is fair (Shakespeare I. 1. 10). Paradoxes can be used to add depth to a text and to
make the reader look at a specific topic or idea in a innovative
Personal Experiences And Personal Strengths
What are your strengths? My strengths include working in a fast paced
environment. I am also skilled in working with both large and small teams. I am
also skilled in solving challenging problems that are involved at work. I am skilled
in quick research as well. How do you cope with stress? I usually stick to little
activities when dealing with stress. One includes working out at the gym,
primarily in weight lifting. I have also started taking yoga. What are your
computer skills? 1 10 7. I say seven because there are programs that I am not
familiar with. I am proficient, however, in Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, and some
in Excel. How quickly do you adapt to change? Example? I adapt fairly quickly to
change. When I was working at S Mart Foods, we had to rearrange the shelves in
each aisle to bring in new product and it made it harder to find items. After hours I
spent time learning the location of basic items in each aisle. If you weren t going
to go into law, what would you be doing? Originally, I was going to learn how to be
an engineer in water technology. I liked learning how to be a paralegal because I
was skilled at doing research. What is most important to you? Money or your
career? And why? My career would be the most important. I say this because I am
not a materialistic person and do not like to let money take over my whole life. I
believe in putting my career first and the money will follow after it. What are your
hobbies? I like to lift weights
Burdick Job Corps Center Case Study
I would like to discuss the current situation of how the Burdick Job Corps Center is
doing. I am a current student here at the Burdick Job Corps Center located in Minot,
North Dakota. I have a few concerns regarding how the center could be more
effective towards the students. After all, I mean this whole facility is meant for the
students to get their trade completion and their high school diploma or GED. I d like
to discuss the Wellness facility, the cafeteria food, the technology and lastly, leaving
campus. The Wellness center here at Burdick is definitely not the greatest place for a
student to receive health care. Although it is free to the student, there should be more
standards that it should be held up to. Many students who are feeling
Pursuing A Dental Career
I want to give people confidence in their appearance. A smile is what people present
to the world, and has the power to leave a lasting impression. Seeing patients walk
away with more than good oral health is something I treasure. I want patients to take
pride in their teeth by applying my creative and artistic talents in a dental career.
Dentistryis rapidly evolving. Learning never ends and knowledge within the field is
always growing. New procedures and new approaches are always taking shape.
Technology and dentistry are inseparable and I want to be able to pursue
technological innovation by integrating my interest in computer programming to
offer the most modern dental equipment and techniques available. I want people to

Software Is Tightly Integrated With The Matlab
Environment
Simulink software is tightly integrated with the MATLAB environment. It requires
MATLAB to run, depending on it to define and evaluate model and block parameters.
Simulink can also utilize many MATLAB features. For example, Simulink can use
the MATLAB environment to:
Define model inputs.
Store model outputs for analysis and visualization.
Perform functions within a model, through integrated calls to MATLAB operators
and functions
Concept of signal and logic flow:
In Simulink, data/information from various blocks is sent to another block by lines
connecting the relevant blocks. Signals can be generated and fed into blocks
dynamic / static).Data can be fed into functions. Data can then be dumped into sinks,
which could be scopes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unused signals must be terminated, to prevent warnings about unconnected signals.
Sources and sinks
Continuous and discrete systems:
All dynamic systems can be analyzed as continuous or discrete time systems.
Simulink allows you to represent these systems using transfer functions, integration
blocks, delay blocks etc.
continous and descrete systems
Non linear operators:
A main advantage of using tools such as Simulink is the ability to simulate non linear
systems and arrive at results without having to solve analytically. It is very difficult
to arrive at an analytical solution for a system having non linearities such as
saturation, signup function, limited slew rates etc. In Simulation, since systems are
analyzed using iterations, non linearities are not a hindrance. One such could be a
saturation block, to indicate a physical limitation on a parameter, such as a voltage
signal to a motor etc. Manual switches are useful when trying simulations with
different cases. Switches are the logical equivalent of if then statements in
programming. simulink blocks
Mathematical operations:
Mathematical operators such as products, sum, logical operations such as and, or,
etc. .can be programmed along with the signal flow. Matrix multiplication becomes
easy with the matrix gain block. Trigonometric functions such as sin or tan inverse
(at an) are also available. Relational operators such as equal to , greater than etc. can
also be used in logic
Conch Lord Of The Flies Analysis
Lord of The Flies Imagine being stuck on an island with no adults, no shelter, and
no rules. Living on an island with only kids yours age and younger. All of the boys
stick together in order to protect one another. In the book Lord of the Flies, the
boys get stuck on an island and set forward the idea of having rules. Although the
rules work for only a couple of days, the rules were the cause of their civilization to
fall apart and turn against each other. Despite the civilization falling apart, the boys

The conch is a symbol represented throughout the book to represent civilization
because it was the first rule for the boys. The first rule the boys made was that in
order to talk they to be holding the conch. For instance, on chapter one Ralph gives
the boys special jobs to try and keep the island under control. Ralph gives Jack and
his choir group to be hunters while the rest help with the fire and littleluns. Aside
from Golding showing the boys to be civilized at first in the book, the boys
embrace the savagery. In the book, Ralph tries to keep all the boys together even
though the times are hard. On chapter 5, after the young boys get done discussing
on the beastie Jack ignores Ralph and Piggy s rules and goes off with his hunters
into the forest showing disrespect and savagery toward the group of boys. Jack for
example was too caught up in the moment to take the desire of being the leader that
he separates from Ralphs society/group to start his new tribe. Besides Jack
separating from the tribe, Jack and his group of hunters kill Simon savagely saying
he was the beast in disguise. Although Ralph and Piggy were the only ones that
stayed civil throughout the book
A Rhetorical Analysis Of Grant Hackett
GRANT HACKETT OR GRANT SMACKIT, why are we spending so much time
recording his melt downs?
Ordinary people, amble past a front yard on their generally hushed street, but now
news vans are parked the whole way down the street, there are numerous cameras and
reporters talking at once. As soon as the gate opens in the front yard, everyone lunges
for their phones and cameras, frantically trying to record anything spoken from; Grant
Hackett s family.
The media, no matter what sort of media you look at, it has an impact on you. Our
phone buzzes five minutes after a celebrity or political person has had a meltdown.

One way Colman has put you in a position to view that Grant Hackett is an
incredibly troubled man, which may be true but yet there is countless amount of
other people who are in the same situation and are incredibly troubled as well as
Hackett. The media has put Hackett on a prodigious pedestal but yet takes just as
much pleasure in seeing those fall from that pedestal. Colman has stated Still, I
suppose when we place someone on a pedestal as high as the one we built for Grant
and his teammate Ian Thorpe, there is only one way to go. Mike Colman Courier
Mail 2017. This statement made by Colman, has put you in a position where you can
see that Hackett has fallen, but in this particular article, it was the only statement that
Colman made about falling off a pedestal . The rest of the article was composing that
Grant Hackett has fallen from grace and needs serious help. Which, yes, may be true
but what about everyone else? In this article the only statement from Hackett himself,
the truth is I m only human and it does hurt. This comment is not recent as it was
from last year when Hackett was commentating on the
Marketing Research Rocket Soup
Question 1 (a)Total Volume One of the most notable patterns of sales in regards to
total sales volume is that it increases drastically when the average price of soup is
low (Average price is calculated by dividing Category Volume by Category
Dollars). Total sales volume had significantly increased when either Rocket Soup
or competitors (or both) offer low price for promotion. In other words, soup
consumption is relatively elastic to price, meaning that customers are highly
sensitive to price. See below graphs showing the inverse relationship between the
total volumes sold and average price of soups. Category Volume sold in Week 1 to 40

The following weeks of those top 5 weeks are Week 3, 9, 13, 32 and 38. From this
period, the average sales volume is 5,184, with the average price of 0.86, which is
close to the average category price of 0.82. From this, it could be argued that the
sales volume after high volume weeks tends to significantly decrease even though
the price remains the average level, as the excessive demand from previous week
has eliminated demands for following weeks. Question 2 (a)Incremental Volume to
Rocket In week 12, sales of Rocket Soup had drastically increased to 16,113 due to
the excessive discount on their product. Rocket Soup had launched a promotion
with feature and display and charged for 0.02, which is over 97.5% discount on
their average price. Although the sales had drastically increased, it is not possible
to argue whether this excessive demand was from the promotion or low pricing.
(b)Promotional Volume burrowed from future sales Since Rocket Soup virtually
gave away their product for free in week 12, the average sales volume of Rocket
Soup has been lower until week 22. The average weekly sales volume of Rocket
Soup was 1613, and yet the average from week 13 to 21 was only 718, which is
less than half. In addition, Rocket Soup performed promotion on week 13, 16 and
19, and yet does not significantly increase any sales due to the previous high sales
volume in week 12. Question 3 Although the general price and demand curve in
Types And Classifications Of Pulmonary Hypertension
Abstract Pulmonary hypertension is a disease that without treatment becomes
progressively worse until a patient dies. It is characteristically a disease of young
adults, but may occur all across the lifespan making this disease even more
devastating.1 Pulmonary hypertension is characterized by elevated intrapulmonary
pressures which cause dynamic changes to the cardiovascular system of the affected
individual. The adequate functioning of the cardiovascular system is vital to the
survival of the patient so while treatment is rarely curative, with the exception of
organ transplant which will be discussed later, the main goal of medical therapy is
to optimize cardiovascular functioning and stop disease progression allowing people
living with this disease the best possible quality of life and level of functioning.
There are several types and classifications of pulmonary hypertensionwith multiple
pathogenesis. Different treatment modalities have been proven effective to treat this
disease process; the mainstay of treatment relies heavily on pharmacologic therapies.
Pharmacologic treatments include drugs in the following pharmacological classes:
calcium channel blockers, prostacyclins including synthetic prostacyclins and
prostacyclin analogues, endothelin receptor antagonists, and phosphodiesterase
inhibitors. While pharmacologic therapies are the mainstay of treatment, heartand, or
lung transplant maybe available for a specific subtype of PH, primary PH. Organ

National Hockey League Paper
NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE EXECUTIVE SUMMARY National Hockey
League was established as a non profit entity in 1917 by 26 teams to govern the
league. They had been very successful over the past 75 years with very little
exposure. They have thrilled fans and provide financial returns for their owners.
Their primary goal is to take hockey to a next level and makes it more popular.
They are not worried about competition and are only concerned with overall growth
for the sport, the owners, the players and the fans. Due to a recent labour dispute, all
the NHL stakeholders lost a lot of money and this coupled with the need to increase
the audience let to a lot of confusion between decision makers about what means to

The locations, merchandise, cheerleaders, music, rental tapes, and logos add to the
whole hockey experience making it more than just a sport. COMPANY NHL has
a great product, thrilled fans, and provide financial returns for their owners. The
Stanley Cup was the most popular trophy awarded for a century to North America
s best hockey team. By the 1990 s there was a shift from pure hockey to a hockey
experience with a variety of entertainment added to increase the appeal of the
game. To create exposure, new recruitments were also made. NHL s strength lied
in its strong partnerships with firms like NIKE, Coca Cola and Anheuser Busch.
NHLs achieved great success with little exposure so with the right support and
exposure they can grow their fan base considerably. VALUE PROPOSITION
Hockey is not a tangible product to increase the popularity of which they can add
or modify some features, hence complicating things a bit. It s a sport, so all they
can work on, to make it more popular among the audience is to make the experience
of watching the game worth while. The product offered by NHL is great. They have
young, good looking, well built athletes who are generally from small towns and
hence, are shy and without any frills. The sport is thrilling and competitive and the
results are refreshingly unpredictable. It s also innovative, as there is a goal camera
inside the net. The inclusion of

  • 2. Aquinas Vs Hobbes Natural Law initially began in Ancient Greece and was an imperative element in society. Numerous philosophers had their own particular perspective of natural law including Thomas Hobbes and Thomas Aquinas. They both depict how we should function as human beings and as a society with their opposing perspectives on natural law. I will compare the natural law teachings of Thomas Hobbesand Thomas Aquinas and their philosophy. I will discuss whose teachings are more persuasive and whom I agree with. . Natural Law is said to exist within all of us with the ability of reason. Contradicting to Aquinas, Hobbes says that in order to do good, we must be forced to do good by the enforcement of laws. Thomas Aquinas says natural law exists in your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There would be a power of authority that would enforce the laws to protect individuals from the human nature of others. Failure to comply would result in consequences. The sovereign would control the law, giving onto people what is moral. He fears without sovereign, man would strive towards power and even killing. This would threaten the sovereign and result in chaos. Hobbes believes that everyone will agree to authority because it is in their best interest. After all, human beings are self centered according to Hobbes. Therefore, human beings voluntarily surrender freedoms to live in harmony. This was called the Leviathan, and considered it necessary for social order. I find this more persuasive because it poseses structure, boundaries and expectations. It holds a clear message that if we all agree to the law, then we can live in

Essay on Restorative Action for Juvenile Justice Centers Juvenile justice is the area of criminal law for a person not old enough to be held responsible for their criminal actions ( Juvenile Justice ). In most states this kind of categorization is determined by age, set at eighteen years old. The goal is to provide ED nurses with the proper preparation to handle violent situations. The skills that are learned during the educational component of the program can be implemented into daily practice to raise awareness and cultivate a safer working environment. For unfortunate situations that do turn violent, the training may instill a sense of confidence in the ED nurse on how to handle the situation properly. There have been multiple studies that show a reduction in WPV after implementing educational program. Fernandes et al. (2002) conducted a study that involved quantifying the amount of violence in an emergency department ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Stakeholders also need to be fully invested in the importance of reporting all violent incidents. If violence is underreported, data results will be skewed and prevention efforts will suffer. One study concluded that the underreporting of WPV is due to nurses perception that reporting will not change the atmosphere because violence is part a necessary, but unwanted part of the job (Gillespie et al., 2013). Administration plays a large part in addressing other nurses on the utilization of the reporting system immediately after every violent event occurs. Administrative leaders in the ED need to communicate the positive prevention outcomes that result from reporting violent events. Involving all stakeholders in the implementation process may decrease these undesirable feelings towards decreasing WPV. A study by Arnetz et al. (2015) indicated that violence prevention efforts were more sustainable when stakeholders fully participated in reporting events and developing data reports. Violence reduction cannot adequately take place until stakeholders definitively embrace their irreplaceable role in the prevention

  • 13. A Race United Essay When the first Irish immigrants landed on the eastern shores of America in the 18th century, they were met by intolerance from the Native whites who saw them as a threat to the American way of life. The Dangers of Foreign Immigration, an article written by Samuel Morse in 1835, exposits much of the anti immigrant sentiment prevalent in the 19th century. To the natives, the Irish were simply niggers turned inside out (Anonymous Satirism), who came to America as refugees from Ireland to deprive them of their wealth and prosperity. Thus, the immigrants of Erin were forced to join the ranks of the slave, the German, and the free Negro laborer at the very bottom of the American diaspora. In addition to Irish progress politically, the sons and daughters of Erin also received help from each other. Written in 1835, The Dangers of Foreign Immigrationwas not targeted at the earliest wave of Irish immigrants who arrived in the late 18th century. Unlike later generations, these early Irish Americans were not necessarily Catholic, and didn t always speak English, but rather Gaelic. By the time the second wave of Irish immigrants arrived in the mid 19th century, yet more differences existed between these two waves. Those immigrants who had arrived earlier were by now relatively more wealthy and established than their more recent counterparts. But through their common threads Irish men and women, the established communities provided financial and political aid to their newly arriving brethren. The Shamrock Friendly Association, an Irish aid group comprised of prosperous Irish American citizens, published an informational pamphlet in 1816 entitled Hints to Emigrants from Europe. In it, they tell Irish immigrants that they may derive benefit from the counsel and guidance of friends, and that if one has gone the road [they] are about to travel, by only showing [them] how it winds beyond the next hill, (Shamrock Friendly Association 4) they would be better able to navigate their path in America successfully. • 14. A Brief Note On Robert Browning s Porphyria s Lover And... Contributory Factors to the Murders in Robert Browning s Porphyria s Lover and The Laboratory. The word love possesses such complexity and magnitude that people commonly have a hard time defining it effectively without oversimplifying. Given the true intensity of feeling, jealousy is often said to be synonymous with being in love and the real impact love can have on a person can be unpredictable. Considering this, The Cambridge Dictionary defines a crime of passion as a crime committed because of very strong emotional feelings, especially in connection with a sexual relationship. The poems Porphyria s Lover and The Laboratory by Robert Browning, although significantly different, essentially share the theme of love and jealousy. In both poems, readers are introduced to the darker side of romance through male and female speakers so overwhelmed with emotion, they turn to murderas a means of expression. Using dramatic monologue, Browning brilliantly explores the profound effect love can have on its victims and the psychological elements leading to a crime of passion. A dramatic monologue is defined as a form of monodrama in which the speaker addresses an assumed listener or group of listeners (Kennedy 72). Although Browning mastered this genre during the Victorian era, his poems were often greeted with misunderstanding and indifference (Simpson 1275). Along with his work featuring grotesque rhymes and jaw breaking diction (Simpson 1275), he was

Music has the power to define an individual, yet, as a whole, we still have not truly realized the power within music and the relation it has to one s life and experiences. For me, music can be applied to my dearest memories. It clearly displays the most prominent things in my life which define who I am. Family and the faith that has been instilled into my life because of them has played such an important role in my life as far as who I have been in the past, who I am now, and who I hope to become in the future; thus, my playlist highlights the defining moments of my life and the correlation between the two. From the moment I decided that I desired to learn to play the piano, my grandfather was my most avid supporter. He never thought twice about purchasing a beautiful piano to keep in his home solely for me. Though my grandfather himself could not play, he still had a passion for me to achieve my dreams, and clearly he proved his desire to be at the front row of encouragement. I will never forget my grandfather s excitement for me to learn something that interested me; he wouldn t wait long before

The meaning of freedom to me is the right to do things as I choose. It is the right to act or speak and make my own choices without restraint. Many people say they would do whatever it takes to achieve to goal of true freedom, but how far will they really go for their rights? Can people have freedom and still be responsible citizens? Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Freedom does mean to right to do as one pleases, to think, believe, speak, worship, move about, gather. I believe everyone should act as you choose, but only until your choices start to infringe on another person s freedom. You can be a responsible citizen and still enjoy your freedom. Enjoying our freedom does not mean that we can disregard the rights of others and live the way we feel right. We also have to consider the rights and the feelings of the other people around us when living our freedom. We believe in the freedom of people to make their own mistakes. We do not interfere with them and they should not interfere with others (Roosevelt, 1905). I observe the rules and traditions of the society. Sometimes I m not free to act as I want, because I know that it can bring harm to people whom I love and respect. We really need to live in the society that is restricted. Can you imagine one where all the people do what they want to? I think that it would turn into chaos. That s why I stick to the opinion that people should obey the rules of the society they live in and respect the rights of other people. Freedom is not an absolute right, and it too has some constraints. A popular saying goes: Your freedom ends where mine begins. A freedom that poses a threat to the society and the nation we dwell in is not freedom in real sense. One cannot just violate laws, kill people, smuggle drugs or doing anything detrimental to the society and call it

The working class in this film are forced to endure agonising labour in extremely dangerous environments whilst the upper class, the sons are free to live at their will. The dystopic setting of the depths becomes evident through Lang s use of symbolism when the dictator s son, Freder, journeys to the depths and starts to see the workers being eaten up by the machines in the scene Slaves of the Means of Production (14.58 17.52). This symbolises the dystopic society in which workers do not have the right to be safe. This idea forms a contextual connection to the 1920 s Weimar Republic where there were two distinct classes, the conservative elite, who were free to live at their will, and the workers who were forced to endure labour with no guarantee for safety. Through the contextual connections of political reform and the shared perspectives of dystopian societies the quote the object of power is power is strongly supported by George Orwell s 1984 and Fritz Lang s Metropolis . The lesson aims to teach Text Types (Recount Text) and equip students with a better understanding of factual text types, in particular, Recount Text. In regards to the lessons goals, students are required to engage in oral interactions and share a special event they have experienced. This activity aims to explain the social function of recounts after sharing their own experience; to identify the generic structure; recognise the language features; and ultimately compose their own recount through the use of Simple Past Tense. The lesson is 60 minutes long and follows previous lessons on narrative text under the topic of text types. The rationale for doing this (what are you doing?) is due to the assumption that students have mastered Simple Past Tense skills from the previous lesson as it is a major component in writing recounts. An appropriate starting point for sequencing instructions should identify its structure (lesson structure or instruction s structure?) . According to Woodward (2001), lessons should consist of three main segments. Firstly, the beginning phase involves mentally preparing students for learning. Secondly, the central teaching and learning stage includes pointing out, presenting the core material, activating learning task and performing the task before providing constructive feedback. Lastly, the end phase consists of reviewing the lesson s key points and administering quiz

As well as being a professor he is a preaching pastor at Woodland Hills Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, and has authored three books and several articles. This particular book is a dialogue between he and his father, Edward Boyd. Edward lives in Florida and worked for 35 years in sales management. For the most part I really appreciated Gregory s answers and found them to be very insightful, as well as theologically correct. I liked his defense of God when Edward blamed Him for all the evil in the world. I also like how he explained the freedom that God has chosen to give each of us, and that that very freedom, which was given so that true love could exist, must also bear with it the possibility of evil. Gregory said in one of his responses If we have the potential to oppress or slay millions, it s because we also have the potential to liberate and love millions. I thought Gregory did an exceptional job of explaining salvation to his father as well. He gave great evidence that the Bible was, in fact, true and reliable. I, personally, was very pleased with the apologetic effort of Dr. Boyd. There were just a couple of things that, I did not necessarily disagree with, but that definitely challenged my way of thinking. The first is about God s omniscience. In Terry Bowland s Romans class, while discussing Calvinism, we went over this a little bit. My understanding of what Dr. Bowland believes (I am sure he would explain it better) is that God does know the future. He knows everything. Before I was born He knew the choices I would be making today. He did not predestine me to make these decisions, but because he is Almighty God, He simply knows the choices that I will make. That all made sense to me until I

God made every individual perfect, and made it very clear that man not need go tampering with the beauty, inner or external, that God gave someone at the moment of their birth birth. Another example would be when Aminabad looked at Georgiana with the identity given to her, not the identity her husband wants for her . ...Aminadab, looking intently at the lifeless form of Georgiana; and then he muttered to himself, If she were my wife, I d never part with that birthmark. Infancy and Early Childhood Development Infancy and Early Childhood Development Cynthia Miranda PSY 375 July 2, 2012 Dr. Aneta Bhojwani Infancy and Early Childhood Development Every human being begins developing in one way or another, from the moment they come into this world. Development and all its aspects begin in infancy and continue throughout one s entire lifetime. It is a common belief that infants and young children are influenced by the environment that surrounds them. Cognitive and social aspects of development are shaped and molded at an early age, as well as language, speech, perception, and motor skills. Infants need an adequate amount of care, affection, attention and intellectual stimulation to develop properly. The caregiver s level of involvement in a child s life not only influences the child s psychological development but can also affect the child s biological development (Belsky, 2008). If an infant is not properly stimulated for an extended period, he or she may experience difficulty developing sensations, motor skills, and perceptions, at a proper level. Just as an adult cannot learn something new without being taught, the same important principle also applies to infancy and early childhood development. Parenting Styles There are different styles of parenting styles. The four primary styles are: authoritarian, permissive, uninvolved, and authoritative. Each parenting style is unique and has characteristics that are distinct to that particular style, and that apply to the way in which parent raise their children. Parents whose parenting style falls under the authoritarian approach, are typically overbearing and do not feel the need to explain themselves to the child. A child raised in an authoritarian atmosphere does not enjoy much freedom and rarely makes decisions for him or herself. The authoritarian approach may potentially backfire and cause the child to ultimately rebel against the parents or other authority figures (Livestrong,

Although the authors provide profound insight on the treatment of animals in America on Factory Farms versus Polyface Farms I am still skeptical about how one could be more humane than the other when in both cases the animals are produced to be slaughtered and sold for human consumption. Because there is not really a way to ensure the slaughter of cattle is humane or not I do not see myself becoming a conscientious omnivore. On the other hand, I agree that some aspects of Factory farming should not be acceptable. I strongly believe that laws should be put in place to help regulate better treatment of animals during the duration of their lives on Factory Farms. One of the reasons why I do not feel prepared to change my eatinghabits is because of the high cost of eating organic foods, or a vegan/vegetarian diet.
