Mariam was born prematurely in February 2014 but showed typical development for her age, smiling and becoming interested in her surroundings at 3 months. At 8 months she enjoyed looking for hidden objects, and by 12 months was developing social and emotional skills like imitation. From 15-18 months she exhibited behaviors like scientific curiosity and chatter that are common developmental milestones. She enjoyed activities like riding her tricycle, reading stories, and dramatic play from ages 2 to 5. Mariam took piano lessons at age 6 and enjoyed outdoor activities like snowboarding at age 8, showing her growing skills and attention span.
French and American schools
Schools in France, the United States, and both countries:
- France has earlier school start around ages 2-3 while the US starts at age 7. France uses a grading scale of 0-20 while the US uses a letter scale of A-F.
- Most schools in both countries are public and teachers are paid by the state.
- Schools are divided into four parts: kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school.
- College costs are very high in the US but virtually free in France, though French schools do not sponsor extracurriculars.

Kevin Pearce suffered a life-threatening head injury in December 2009 while performing a frontside double cork 1080 at Park City Mountain Resort in Utah. He spent 5 months in the hospital and underwent 19 months of rehabilitation in Salt Lake City and Colorado. After 2 years of recovery, Kevin Pearce got back on his snowboard in December 2011 at Breckenridge, Colorado.
