2. HISTORY PHYSICAL THERAPYAccording to certain archives (illustrated and written) discovered by
historians, treatments of physical therapy such as hydrotherapy,
therapeutic massages and exercises were used in countries such as
India, China and Greece thousands of years ago.
Around 1000 B.C, Chinese people used to perform an exercise ie
Cong Fu to correct the body laying and perfect the breath. They also
knew the Indians to perform certain forms of exercises and
massages to treat arthritis.
Around 500 BC, in ancient Greece, Herodicus, a Greek physician,
explained about the exercises known as ARS Gymnastica or the art
of gymnastics that includes fighting, walking and weightlifting to
perfect certain febrile conditions.
3. In 460 BC, Hippocrates, an ancient Greek physician traditionally
regarded as the father of the remedy, emphasized in the exercise to
perfect physical strength. During the same year, in Greece, Hector
used hydrotherapy (meaning water therapy).
Around 180 BC, the Romans adopted a form of exercise known as
gymnastics to perfect physical strength. Later, in the second
century, Galen, famous physician, taught about the execution of
modern exercises to perfect total strength.

AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL…
Manuel Uribe Angel (1822-1904)
Physician, scientific writer, politician and Colombian
geographer, who has been called the "father of medicine of
Antioquia" for his results in the advances of the practice of
medicine in Colombia and Antioquia.
Martha Liliana Hijuelos Cardenas
Physiotherapist graduated from the University of Santander
(UIS) with 24 years of experience, specialized in UIS computer
science and master in epidemiology UIS. He has held senior
administrative positions at UDES.
5. ON AN INTERNATIONAL LEVEL…
Margaret Knott
Dr. Hernán Kabat and Miss Margaret Knott at
the Kabat Kaiser Institute, did the first
practices between 1946 and 1951; the first
communication that is known was provided by
Dr. Kabat at the First World Congress of
Physical Therapeutics in 1953. In the name of
the Method: "Proprioceptive Neuromuscular
Facilitation Techniques" the bases of it are
implied.
6. Activities that the physiotherapist performs
* Working with patients to identify the physical problem.
* Elaboration and review of treatment programs.
* Help patients with problems in the joints and spine, especially after surgery.
* Assist in the rehabilitation of patients as a result of accidents, injuries and
strokes.
* Supervision of Physiotherapy assistants.
* Write notes to patients of cases and reports.
* To carry out the corresponding statistics of the patient, including the collective
management.
* Educate and advise patients and caregivers about how to prevent and/or
improve conditions.
* Keep up to date with new techniques and technologies available to treat
patients.
9. RELEVANCE OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE
The english language is very important for our
profession, because we can work in other
country, our profession is very necessary for the
world, we can travel to other country for study a
specialization. We should write scientific article
in Spanish as English, for the globalization. The
English language is the most important language
in the all world, in the universal language.
10. PERSONAL INTERESTS
We decide study physical therapy because is a
profession when we can help the other persons,
getting better their quality life, when the life of
the patients is affected with a deficiency or for a
pathology. For we is better help the people that
other thing, is very important have a big heart for
study physical therapy.
