PHYSICAL THERAPY
• Is a historical form of treatment modality, which specializes in re - establishing
movement, physical strength and functioning in individuals affected by some form
of harm, illness or disability
A physiotherapy is a healing technique that consists of natural elements (light,
water) or mechanical actions (a massage). The word is born from the union of two
Greek words: physis ("nature") and therapeia ("treatment"). The etymology, he says,
indicates that physiotherapy is the "treatment through nature"
• Physical therapy can perform different tasks to diagnose a functional capacity, the
strength of a muscle or the characteristics of the movement of a joint.
• they should be able to both contribute to recovery and help prevent a physical
disorder
HISTORY
• According to certain archives (illustrated and written) discovered by historians, physical therapy treatments
such as hydrotherapy, therapeutic messages and exercises were used in countries like India, China and
Greece thousands of years ago.
• Around 1000 B.C, Chinese people used to perform an exercise ie Cong Fu to correct the body laying and
perfect the breath. They also knew the Indians to perform certain forms of exercises and messages to treat
arthritis.
• Around 500 BC, in Ancient Greece, Herodicus, Greek physician, explained about the exercises known as
ARS Gymnastica or the art of gymnastics that includes fighting, walking and weightlifting to perfect certain
febrile conditions.
• In 460 BC, Hippocrates, an ancient Greek physician traditionally regarded as the father of the remedy,
emphasized in the exercise to perfect physical strength. During the same year, in Greece, Hector used
hydrotherapy (meaning water therapy). In addition, Aristotle also recommended that courier with oil can
relieve fatigue.
• Around 180 BC, the Romans adopted a form of exercise known as gymnastics to perfect physical strength.
Later, in the second century, Galen, famous physician, taught about the execution of modern exercises to
perfect total strength.
HERMAN KABAT
• The creator of the FNP method is Dr. Hermán Kabat, doctor of medicine and philosophy, with
an amazing professional history.9 In 1932, at 19 years of age, Hermán Kabat obtained a
bachelor of science degree at the University of New York. . In 1935, at the age of 22, he received
his PhD in Philosophy in Neurology from the School of Medicine at Northwestern University in
Chicago. During the period from 1932 to 1936 he was a fellow of Neurology and Anatomy at
that university.
•
In 1936 Dr. Kabat went to the University of Minnesota, where he acted as an instructor of
physiology and studied medicine. He obtained his doctorate in medicine in 1942, at the age of
29 years. From 1942 to 1943 he was assistant professor of physiology and neuropsychiatry. With
this training, Dr. Kabat became a neurophysiologist and clinician or, as he himself once called
himself, "clinical neurophysiologist"
•
Dr. Kabat held several positions in the Washington region, including as a consultant for the
District of Columbia Disabled Children Program. At that time he became interested in cerebral
paralytics. In 1946 he was appointed medical director of the Kabat-Kaiser Institute of
Neuromuscular Rehabilitation in Washington.
FUNCTIONS
• Assistive Function: the very performance of physiotherapy for prevention and cure, using the techniques of their field.
The first step is the assessment of each patient to be able to issue a diagnosis, from which the path to be taken for
recovery is decided, whether this depends absolutely on physiotherapy or that requires the competence of other medical
professionals. The main tool used in this discipline is the hand and, among the tasks performed are massages, stretching
and various physical exercises that have objectives such as correction of posture, airway clearance and improved motor
control. But physiotherapy also relies on other elements and technology to improve health; Application of electric
current, ultrasound, treatments with water, heat and cold are some of the techniques that are not based on the exclusive
use of the hands.
•
• Teaching and Research Function: through the university training of future professionals, it is important that it points to an
evolution of physiotherapy, opening the doors to treatments that make use of the different technological and medicinal
advances that may arise
•
• Management Function: the professionals of this field can access to participate in the cabinets or physiotherapy centers
whenever the legislation of their country allows it. These are channels that facilitate the propagation of information to
achieve a uniform and coherent development of specialists, through programs, activities and statistics at the national
level.

RELEVANCE OF ENGLISH IN OUR
PROFESSION
•
Management positions: If an adequate level of English, it is much more complicated to
progress professionally. The fact is that the more responsibility a job entails, the more likely
it is that it requires knowledge of English. According to a Randstad study, 75% of job offers
for senior managers have English as a requirement.
• New job opportunities:Knowing English opens the doors to many exciting job
opportunities, from working a season abroad to a position in a multinational or why not do
your own endeavor. In a market as dynamic as the current one, where globalization and
the internet are breaking down borders, being able to communicate with colleagues from
all over the world is increasingly essential.
• Facilitate the day to day work: Having a good level of English makes it possible to access all
kinds of international resources: web pages, applications, reports ... which gives us an
advantage in day-to-day work.
•
PERSONAL INTEREST IN STUDYING
