4. TYPES OF EXERCISES
Exercises are generally grouped into three types depending on the
overall effect they have on the human body:
Aerobic exercises, such as cycling, walking, running, hiking, and
playing tennis, focus on increasing cardiovascular endurance.
Anaerobic exercises, such as weight training, increase short-term
muscle strength.
Flexibility exercises such as stretching improve the range of motion
of muscles and joints.
5. Aerobic (or cardiovascular exercise, a
term attributed to this kind of exercise because
of its various benefits in cardiovascular health)
refers to exercise that involves or improves
oxygen consumption by the body.
6. Anaerobic exercise is the type of exercise that
enhances power and builds muscle mass. Muscles
trained under anaerobic conditions develop differently,
leading to greater performance in short duration, high
intensity activities, which last up to about 2 minutes.
7. First aid is the initial assistance given to any person suffering a
sudden illness or injury, with care provided to preserve life, prevent the
condition from worsening, and/or promote recovery. It includes initial
and quick intervention in a serious condition prior to professional
medical help being available, such as performing CPR whilst awaiting
an ambulance, as well as the complete treatment of minor conditions,
such as applying a plaster to a cut. First aid is generally performed by
the layperson, with many people trained in providing basic levels of first
aid, and others willing to do so from acquired knowledge. It may also
require improvisation on the spot when certain materials are lacking or
unavailable.
