My First Intercultural Awareness Activity Essay
For my first Intercultural Awareness activity, I chose to listen to the BBC World Report every day
for a week. I listened to BBC from September 7 through September 13. I listened to an hour report
each day, culminating in 7 hours of intercultural awareness. Because of the lengths of the podcasts,
I chose to focus on the main issue that was presented in the podcast.
I listened to the 1st podcast September 7, 2016. It was on an issue that has risen in Ukraine
between two orthodox churches, the Ukrainian Orthodox church of Moscow and the Ukrainian
Orthodox church of Kiev. In a small village in Ukraine called Pticha had the members of the UOM
barricade themselves into their church, forcing those who were associated with the UOK to
worship off of the property. The conflict was supposedly caused because of the political conflict
that is happening between Russia and Ukraine. The leaders of the Ukrainian church of Moscow
believes that the members of the church of Kiev are being too political. They say this because the
members of the church of Kiev are saying that those involved in the Moscow church are not true
patriots of Ukraine.
The reporter asked one of the leaders of the church of Moscow if Russia was pressuring them in
any of their actions against the church of Kiev. The leader said that Ukrainian orthodox church is
autonomous. He stated that [The Ukrainian Orthodox church of Moscow] is absolutely
independent in all areas of the church ... No one in Russia is giving me

David Role Model
Lastly, I find David as an important role model in the Old Testament, as well as Abraham because
he was a King, a man after God s own heart, a unifier, a warrior, and a man with great flaws. David
had it all, musical talent, physical strength, and boundless bravery. David reigned as king of Israel
for forty years, dying at age 70 in 837 BCE. His first and foremost drive was to have a relationship
with God. Davidwas chosen especially by God, for the Lord commanded Samuel to look for him
saying, Do not consider his appearance or his height (1 Samuel 16:7). Upon Samuel s anointing
of David, the scripture notates, And from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came upon David in
power (1 Samuel 16:13). David was also known as a great conqueror, as in the incident with
Goliath when he makes a great triumph by cutting off Goliath s head with Goliath s own sword.
David trusts God against all odds, and to whom God gives great success. David was described as a
man after God s own heart (1 Samuel 13:14). The Old Testament not only displays David s heroic
deeds, such as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All Christians are offered a kingdom, just as David was offered a kingdom. The kingdom is your
own life, which is like the instance of the kingdom of Israel. There are enemies compromising it
from the outside; the enemies threatening from within to sabotage it. King David of Israel was
never able to eliminate the Philistines, the Ammonites, the Jebusites, the Perizzites and all the
others. This forms a picture for us of those internal enemies that threaten to undermine and eradicate
control that God aims for us to have, as we struggle and learn to control throughout in life by Jesus
Christ. The only difference is we call our enemies jealously, lust, envy, resentment, bitterness,
anxiety, and worry along with all the other negative emotions or feeling that we may encounter in
our daily walk through

The Ethics Of Chefs Buying Locally Organic Foods
If chefs chose only to buy locally sourced foods not only would thousands metric tons of Carbon
Dioxide (CO2) be eradicated and local economies grow, but would pave way for a revolutionary
trend, our planet s health may depend on this. In todays consuming world, the ethical importance of
chefs buying locally sourced foods are threefold, lowers the use of carbon emissions of produce
transportation, availability to fresher, more flavourful foods in the market, and supports local
economies to thrive. Ethically, to eat local seems like common sense for thee betterment of the
environment and the community.
In order to discuss the importance of chefs using locally grown foods, one must first define local
foods . This proves to be difficult when the definition of local foods varies depending on where you
live. A 2008 Leopold Institute survey of consumers throughout the United States found that two
thirds considered local food to mean food grown within 100 miles. (DeWeerdt, S. (2009, June). Is
Local Food Better? Retrieved from http://www.worldwatch.org/node/6064) Others will interpret it
as food grown within the immediate region, city, country, or 1 day to reach the market from the
farm. *citation*
With the growing trend to reduce carbon emissions, chefs and restaurants are aware that food
traveling greater distances has a direct impact on the carbon footprint and global warming. Chefs
and the public are searching for ways to reduce their carbon footprint. In

The Swing Era
My audience was my life. What I did and how I did it, was all for my audience , these words came
from the well known and never forgotten Cab Calloway. His style and mix of blues, swing and
scat spread like wildfire and filled many peoples lives with joy, excitement and happiness. Cab
Calloway broke the boundaries of racial barriers and become a very popular and influential
household name. As stated in the JazzProfiles from NPR, A truly larger than life figure in American
pop culture...Calloway also led one of the greatest bands of the Swing Era (Ossman).
Cab Calloway arose from an era where racism against black jazz musicians was present and drug
addiction seemed to consume the majority of these musicians lives. It was no surprise that Cab
Calloway pursued a career as an entertainer. He grew up in a family that consisted of musicians
and performers, although it was expected that he would follow in his fathers foot steps and
become a lawyer. Around the mid to late 1920s Cab Calloway assembled his own band and they
were known as the Alabamians. Although his time with the Alabamians was short lived, he
eventually became bandleader of a big band called the Missourians. Cab Calloway and the
Missourians became an instant hit and sensation. They performed in popular clubs such as Savoy
Theater and The Cotton Club. As stated in the article Cab Calloway and The Cotton Club written
by Kinsley Suer, Cab quickly became so popular that his band, which had been

The Baroque School Of French Organ
Introduction: Rarely in the documented history of music can we found a collection of
compositions more perfectly tied to an instrument, than that of the Baroque school of French
organ composition. Looking at the earliest examples of music from this period (which stem from
even earlier vocal polyphony), one will find forms and techniques indubitably connected to the
organ. By the start of the sixteenth century, the establishment of colloquial categories of organ
composition, and independent vocal forms, were finally acknowledged. For the following two
centuries the technical progression of the organ in conjunction with musical development,
resulted in every stop on Baroque French organs being given a standardised function. This
function was almost always outlined at the beginning of a score by the composer. Since
medieval times French organ building has been well documented and recorded. Later on, Marin
Mersenne compiled a book that outlined music happenings in Paris, Harmonie Universelle
(1636), this book included French organ specifications and designs. Even from the middle ages,
French organs placed an emphasis on tone color. Early French organs had an array of principals,
mixtures and mutations, allowing for the creation of registrations such as Plein Jeu. However,
organs of this time (late 1500s) were restricted a lot by the available wind power (how fast the
boys in the basement could move the bellows!). Fortunately, as we come into the 1600s vast strides
were made in

Pros And Cons Of Bug Out Bag
Bug Out Bag Debate: Tarp or Tent for Emergency Shelter
A bug out bag is designed for emergencies, so some inconvenience is to be expected.
When on a family outing you can carry a six or eight person cabin tent in the back of your vehicle.
Weight is not a large factor when you can pack your supplies in the cargo space of an SUV or
pickup.
When packing supplies on your back however, weight can be a deciding factor. What you think
you can carry on your back, and what you can actually carry, are two different things. Twenty
minutes hiking up and down the sidewalk with 30 to 50 pounds strapped on does not mean you
can perform the same way physically while in a crisis when walking over rough and uneven terrain
for hours at a time.
Tents
Most backpacking tents are designed for 1 to 2 people. A one person tentallows approximately 15
square feet of sleeping space. Keep in mind you will have gear as well, so it will be cramped. The
weight can be anywhere from 3 to 6 pounds depending on the model and actual size. ... Show more

retail packaging and set up. They rarely roll up as tight and compact as they were from the

Pros
Better Protection From The Elements, Wind, Rain And Snow
Provides Good Protection From Insects
Easy Set Up Generally, Because Today s Tents Have Integrated Support systems, So It Is Just A

Sonnet
The Spenserian Sonnet was named for Edmund Spenser 1552 1599, a 16th century English Poet.
The Spenserian Sonnet inherited the tradition of the declamatory couplet of Wyatt / Surrey
although Spenser used Sicilian quatrains to develop a metaphor, conflict, idea or question logically,
with the declamatory couplet resolving it.
Beyond the prerequisite for all sonnets, the defining features of the Spenserian Sonnet are: a
quatorzain made up of 3 Sicilian quatrains (4 lines alternating rhyme) and ending in a rhyming
couplet metric, primarily iambic pentameter. rhymed, rhyme scheme ababbcbccdcdee. composed
with a volta (a non physical gap) or pivot (a shifting or tilting of the main line of thought) sometime

Thus, while the sonnet finally celebrates America s victory on Manila bay, that extreme joy is yet
destroyed by the first eight verses that shows our fighting spirit though our troubled history has
only lacked its brightness(dimmed).
Perhaps, it should have been sunset over Manila bay because foreigners often enjoy its view during
sunset, but the poet chose moonlight, not because it is more romantic(dramatic effect) but because,
as the poem suggests, it is under cover of darkness that foreigners stole our country from us The
deep s bare bosom that the breeze molests is a metaphor for American colonization.
So in our reading now, we understand that Maramag s insistence on our own scene so fair in fact
becomes a chief motive and inspiration for the Filipino poet. For his own scene is nothing less
than his lost country whose physical and spiritual geography it is his task to imagine and so
rediscover. There is still hope to heal all the wounds

In the article Deep Intellect by Sy Montgomery, he traveled to the New England Aquarium to meet
an octopus named Athena and learn her thought processes. She was an enormous creature that
could shift shapes and colors while releasing a venomous ink, yet he believed there was more to it
than that. Montgomery knew that octopuses were invertebrates so he assumed they couldn t

A New Markov Chain Stock Price Prediction Model
A new Markov Chain stock price Prediction model in Nasdaq
Introduction:
With the arising of the capital market in the United Kingdom in the 18th century, the stock market
becomes an essential approach for investors to invest. The price of stock fluctuating enormously,
there are usually two kinds of invest in the stock market: long run invest and short run invest. In
order to conduct a long time invest more rationally, information about the company such as its
operating situation, financial situation are required to judge if it is worthwhile to invest. As for
short time investment, stock prices are more dynamic and susceptible to quick change. There exist
more unpredicted factors such as other investors behavior on this stock, the influence of social
media, the social influence and etc. Markov Chain is a stochastic model describing a sequence of
possible events in which the probability of each event depends only on the state attained in the
previous event (Markov Chain, n.d.). The Fluctuation of Stock Price can be regarded as Markov
Process (Vasanthi, 2011), there are a lot of researches in this field and the prediction model had
already well established. According to the situation of different countries these models are adjusted
when applied in different countries and different market.

anywhere, that specialist must make a two point measurement, which means, take two
unmovable objects of that area like a door or an outlet and measure how far they are to the
evidence. The sketcher must also draw everything else in the crime scene in order for the
computer in the forensics lab to get the most accurate measurement. If there is a crime in a
small town that doesn t have a crime scene unit then a detective will have to carry out all these
tasks while also interviewing witnesses and tracking down suspects to solve the crime. For
detectives to get DNA from a person the detective must get a warrant unless they perform this
technique. When detectives are interviewing a suspect but know they don t have enough
evidence to get a warrant for DNA sample the detective can gather evidence from objects the
suspect may have come into contact with in the interview room. When the detective interviews a
suspect they will give the suspect a glass of water hoping that the suspect will drink out of it and
the detective can then send that glass to the forensics and get the DNA tested that is on the glass
and see if it is a match to the crime. Other methods detectives will use is asking the suspect to lick
an envelope closed or offer the suspect a cigarette and get the DNA of the cigarette butt. This
method of obtaining DNA will stand in court because they did not obtain the DNA

Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare
There s nothing better than a comedy to lift your spirits up with baskets full of laughter. I like
the idea of comedies when there s a complete misunderstanding, trickery or when things go
wrong. For example in one of the episodes of My Wife and Kids when a girl called Claire tells
her dad that there will be photograph day in school. So she asks her dad for a massive
photograph of her to put on the wall. Her dad said no. On the day of the school photograph when
she woke up, her right cheek was swollen much bigger than the other. As persuaded by her parents
she reluctantly went to school. When Claire arrived home she said to her dad thanks for only

This trickery is later taken too far, causing Malvolio detrimental distress. Trickery is also
displayed in the duel between Sir Andrew and Cesario. Sir Toby s delight in practical jokes is
once again illustrated as he plans good sport between Sir Andrew and Cesario, but of course
always the assumption that no harm will be done and his arrangements will so fright them both
that they will kill one another by the look, like cockatrices . Sir Toby was right. When Sir
Andrew and Cesario come face to face they are so frightened that it takes some time for the duel to
kick in .The duel is one of the high points of the comedy. Equally absurd is the fact that the
pretended duel is the fact that the pretended duel is fought over Olivia who Cesario has rejected
her love and Sir Andrew thinks he has a chance with Olivia that he enters a duel on her
behalf. Before the duel took place Cesario is worried Pray God defend me! A little thing would
make me tell them how much I lack of man Viola speaks in prose which shows how worried and
endanger of her true identity being discovered.

She simply observed herself as a fair product of Nature in the feminine kind. The girl that Gabriel
is watching from a distance seems very vain as she looks at herself in the mirror and blushes at
herself.
Let the young woman pass, says Oak after giving his to pence to the gatekeeper. I don t think his
kindness was coming completely from the fact that the girl was attractive; I think Oak is just an all

She might have looked her thanks to Gabriel on a minute scale, but she did not speak them; more
probably, she felt none. The girl seems to put herself on a pedestal. From Gabriel s point of view

Do you happen to want a shepherd, ma am? After the fire ended, a woman sent her maid to thank
Gabriel. Gabriel then approached her (saying this). When the girl lifted up her veil, was made
known that the girl was Bathsheba.
Chapter 7:
Bathsheba... scarcely knew whether most to be amused at the singularity of the meeting, or to be
concerned at its awkwardness. Here, the contrast is made between social classes. Hardy compares
Bathsheba s selfishness and vanity with Gabriel s recent fall to poverty.
Moving past Oak as a Christian edges past an offertory plate when he does not mean to contribute,
Gabriel gives his last coins to a shivering a trembling girl. Once again, Gabriel s actions go to show
his good heart.
It is all I have to spare. Gabriel says this before giving away his last coins. He is generous and
seems to put others before himself. Once again, a contrast between him and Bathsheba.
Chapter 8: The stone flag floor was worn into a path from the doorway to the kiln, and into
undulations everywhere. Hardy offers a description of Gabriel s new living space. Although it s
simple, the people that fill it are of many different personality types. Gabriel fits right in; everyone
seems to like him at the malt house.
Chapter 9:
Presented itself as a hoary building, of the early stage of Classic Renaissance, describes Bathsheba
s house. It is described as ornate and moss covered.

dehydrobromintion of primary and secondary alkyl halides in basic conditions. When reacted the
gas products are collected and undergo further analysis in the GC which will separate the product

The reaction then proceeds in a deprotonation of a beta hydrogen while that remaining bond is
turned into an alkene to remove the carbocation. The products for these reagents are different
according to the selectivity of the beta protons. A 1 butene product results from a deprotonation of
the terminal methyl group and a cis or trans 2 butene product if the beta hydrogen is removed
from the methylene group on the other side of the carbocation. 2 butanol will produce these 3
products above; however, 1 butanol will undergo an unstable primary carbocation which will only
result in 1 butene. When observed in the GC it will experimentally result in this specific selectivity
for these reactions as well. For the reagents in basic conditions however will react with a strong

with a substitution mechanism. For this mechanism, 1 bromobutane and 2 bromobutnane, will also

to rearrange where the beta protons are anti periplanar to the bromine atom. Unlike the E1

Discuss The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Division Of Labor
For supporting trade as well as economic interdependence, division of labor creates opportunities for
individual cooperations to cooperate and improve manufacturing and individual labor productivity.
While the corporations can maximize their benefits through surplus value owing to selling product,
the workers have opportunities to get job more easily as well as professional working enviroment
by using modern technology, however, exploitation, effecting workers health and uninspiring job
significantly influence on the workers and even laborproductivity. It can be argued that the benefits,
workers get from division of labor, is not considerable.
According to Adam Smith (1976), there are three main advantages of the division of labor. Firstly,

the workers, the firms carry out new invested trategy, which supply them with long term
employment security, stable salary expectations and better welfare in order to achieve their long

Child Labor Essay
Child Labor
When child labor is examined, individuals and societies feel moral and emotional tugs. The
Freudian super ego is appalled that, especially in the modern world, there would be such a
preposterous issue. The Freudian id would rationalize numerous reasons, even justifications, of
why child labor exists and would be necessary. Every corner of the earth has known this conflict to
one degree or another. In the United States, the conflict is activated or denied with the purchase of
an expensive sneaker. The child who is exploited on the other side of the world rarely receives a
nod of concern for the slavery he endures. Countless items are similarly purchased with similar child
working conditions. The children of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Child labor is not necessary if the income from adults is high enough to provide a reasonable
standard of living. Almost without exception adult labor is a substitution for child labor. Child
labor is often justified by an attitude that says the children are developing good habits that will
make them constantly employable as adults.
Without education, the child often has no other alternative than to enter the work force while still
a minor. As a handicapped, probably illiterate child, he will be sentenced to a lifetime of poverty.
Access to education becomes increasingly remote. Over 125 million children are without formal
schooling. One comparison points out that the cost of educating these children would be 10 billion
dollars, a sizeable sum except when recognizing that this is the cost of four days of global military
spending.
For child labor conditions to improve, strong workers rights codes are necessary. Early studies
emphasize this point by pointing out that child labor problems extend beyond long hours and poor
pay and include highly abusive, sometimes criminal practices. Intentionally distorting and
concealing where and when the children are working can further violate child labor rights. With
multiple layers of production and outsourcing, it is hard to identify the degree and amount of work
that is child labor. What amounted to slave labor in the 19th century was the condition that was
prominent especially in

Wildfire On Invertebrate Community
I have been an avid outdoorsman for as long as I can remember. I grew up hiking the
Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania and fly fishing on some great trout waters. I was fortunate
enough to spend my college years in Colorado, where I continued to fish incredible rivers. And,
even if I were not to catch anything at all, I would still spend the day in some of the most serene
environments that I had ever seen. My passion to obtain a Master s degree and eventually a
doctorate arises from my love of the outdoors and my desire to contribute meaningfully to
protecting the environment for the enjoyment of future generations.
While at Colorado College, I studied German Language and Culture and minored in Philosophy.
During my senior year, I wrote a thesis ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eric Larson, we have identified a topic that will fit into these broader research interests. I will
develop a project to better understand the links between laboratory behavior and field function of
an invasive species, the rusty crayfish. I have communicated with Dr. Larson via phone and

incoming doctoral candidate. Dr. Larson has submitted an NSF proposal that would investigate
population crashes of this same invasive crayfish and, if funded, would mean the selected student
will be working in the same system that I plan on working in. I believe that being able to work
together and having this vertical connection within the lab will be beneficial to both of us, and that
we will be able to produce meaningful publications as a result. I am excited to help determine
whether or not laboratory behaviors of an invasive species can tell us anything about their field
function, including how they fit into the aquatic food web and whether controlled lab experiments

Benefits Of Urban Community Gardening
Benefits of Urban Community Gardening
Melinda L. Smith
Charter Oak State College
Research question
What are the significant benefits offered through urban community gardening, which would cause
one to participate in the practice?
Thesis statement
There are many advantages to participation in community gardening because gardening reduces air
pollution and heat islands, helps in crime prevention, and most significant of all can affect one s
health.
Literature Review
Kathleen Wolf and Alicia Robbins presented different benefits in the article Metro Nature,
Environmental Health and Economic Value in an effort to present the economic values associated
with exposure to nature outline many of the positive advantages associated with ones exposure to
different elements of nature, such as urban greenspaces. Important health benefits relate to reduced
air pollution and increases to an active lifestyle. The additional physical activity helps to reduce
obesity, lower blood pressure, and produce extended life spans.
In the survey Allotment Gardening and Health: A Comparative Survey other positive benefits
associated with gardening are identified. While the article is written to compare the different
effects of allotment gardening compared to those people without allotments, generally the overall
advantages associated with gardening are recognized regardless of whether a gardener is working
with a small group of family members or a larger group of community gardeners.

Classical Music And The Music
Classical composer Robert Schuman once said, To send light into the darkness of men s hearts
such is the duty of the artist. Classical music is composed with such emotion it can leave an
audience stricken with feelings after hearing a movement. The key is the emotion behind the
music. It leaves listeners to wonder what was going on during that time in a composer s life.
Whether it was joyful and happy or depressing and dark, the audience wants to know the motive
behind the composition of music. Classical radio stations are the perfect place to enjoy the
music that started it all Classical radio stations are a way to sit down and relax while listening to
soothing music. The broadcaster s calming voices makes it easier for the listener to transition
from each piece of music to the next. Opposed to radio stations who play pop or rock, the
announcers talk softly. The radio stations who play top 40 playlists normally yell and are
excitable. Classical announcers are soothing and relaxed making the music flow smoothly. The
ads on the stations normally pertained to the artist being played or the station itself. Colorado
Public Radio advertised an ad for Beethoven s greatest hits. They also were self promoting the
station in order to get the listeners to donate. If you donated, you got a chance to win a trip to
Prague, a place where many musical greats studied and played music. The ads on pop stations tend

Julius Caser, The Assassination Of Julius Caesar
Julius Caesar
Julius Caser was a Roman Dictator who was both loved and hate by those that he ruled over.
Throughout the world he has been written about in a variety of different ways and is portrayed as
a politician as well as a selfish dictator. Three firsthand accounts that were written to give us a better
understanding of Julius Caesar were The Assassination of Julius Caesar , Tranquillus, Gaius
Suetonius , and Plutarch, The Assassination of Julius Caesar, from Marcus Brutus . We will
explore the writings and explain how he is viewed from those around him and compare that to
the history portrayed in the History books. With this we will be able to get a better idea of who
he was. As we try to understand who Julius Caesar was we must first learn a little about him and
what he accomplished. Galius Julius Caeser was a Roman politician and general who played a
major role in the events that led to the fall of the Roman Republic and the transformation to the
Roman Empire.(Lynn 2009) He began his leadership of Rome in 100 BC and led Rome untill his
assassination in 44 BC. In the early years of his rule he led Rome into expanding its teritory, when
he was finished with this expansion he tore apart the current form of government and put him as
king turning the country into a dictatorship. He was eventually assasinated by his best friend
Marcus Brutus to began a history of civil war that would change the country forever. The first of

The durability of clay has brought forth an immense abundance of Greek pottery, a craft mastered

vase. In first identifying technique, dimensions, and condition, as well as describing shape,

His four legs stand more relaxed than those of the centaur to his right, who lunges forward
towards a human enemy. This centaur differs from the first in that he faces away from the
viewer; his bare back is exposed, and in his right hand he grasps the front of the spear. However,
his left arm is open, exposing the palm of his left hand. The third centaur is bearded and is
shown in profile. Facing the humans to his left, he stands on his hind legs, recoils in defense, and
holds his spear behind his head with both hands. His left hand grasps the front of the spear, and
his right hand grasps the back of the spear. To his right there is a small insect like figure, with two
sets of wing pairs protruding from its upper section and legs jutting from its lower section.
Of the human figures, the first is male and faces the two centaurs to the left of the viewer. Also
lunging forward, he plants his front foot as the heel of his back foot rises. His hair is shorter than
that of the centaurs, and he holds the Boeotian variation of the hoplite shield that covers his mouth

The Light Of Catholic Social Teaching Essay
The Catholic Church believes that human life and human dignity go hand in hand. A threat to
one is an equal threat to the other. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that, The
equality of men rests essentially on their dignity as persons and the rights that flow from it
(1935). The Second Vatican Council in Gaudium et Spes recognized that, ...any kind of social or
cultural discrimination in basic personal rights on the grounds of sex, race, color, social
conditions, language or religion, must be curbed and eradicated as incompatible with God s
design (29). In other words, humans were created in God s image and from that we acquire our
dignity and rights because of that holy and sacred origin. The plan was meant for all to enjoy a
basic equality and yet due to sin, the evil of racismhas been allowed to permeate humanity, thus
helping to deny humandignity and human rights. In the light of Catholic social teaching (CST), one
asks the questions, in what ways does racism help to deny mankind its rights and dignity, and what
are we as the Church doing to help combat this scourge on our communities and on society?
Whether one calls it racism, xenophobia, or prejudice, all humans have an innate tendency to pre
judge others based external characteristics. This becomes a problem when we allow these
observations to become stereotypes where all of one particular community or group are broadly
painted by these subjective observations, normally negative. As

The Pros And Cons Of Ethical Consumerism
There are many ways to become an ethical consumer. For example, buying free range foods, fair
trade products, energy efficient devices, or using renewable, reusable or recyclable items. This

rate. And with things such as climate change, deforestation and extinction we are now pushed to
take the next step in keeping our planet safe. And the first, easy step is becoming an ethical

In Plutarch s Brutus, Plutarch states that although the conspirators were fond of Cicero they feared
that the caution... combined with his natural timidity... and his habit of calculating all the
details of every enterprise... would blunt the edge of their ardour at a crisis which demanded
speed. (Plutarch Life of Brutus, 12.2) The conspirators leave Cicero out because they believe
that he will slow their time sensitive plans down and thus they leave him out of their plans.
However, in Shakespeare s recreation, Cicero is first suggested by Cassius and vouched for by
Caska, Cinna, and Metellus. It is Brutus who disagrees, stating that ...he will never follow any
thing that other men begin. (Shakespeare Julius Caesar, 2.1.151 2). This change is a prominent
one, especially as Shakespeare often follows Plutarch s works diligently. Honigmann suggests
that Shakespeare wanted to highlight the determination of Brutus to be the sole, undisputed
leader of the conspirators (Honigmann 1959, p.30). It also establishes the conspirators as a
younger group, as Cicero is the only one described with silver hairs (Shakespeare Julius Caesar,

Pablo Picasso The Guitarist Meaning
Poverty is one of the worst Circumstances that can happen to a human being because it leaves them
stripped of everything, including their dignity. It s even worse when they re alone because they
have no one to turn to. The painting The guitarist by Pablo Picasso shows a man sitting by himself
in a corner holding a guitar. The painting creates a mood of sympathy because the man appears to
be homeless. Sympathy is created in the painting by the color composition and the position of the
subject matter. The artist created this painting to raise awareness about poverty.
First, sympathy is created in the painting by the color composition. In the painting, the man is
shown in ripped clothes and his feet are brown. brown signifies that his feet are dirty, and he
couldn t protect his feet from the ground because he has no shoes. It s tragic because he could
contract disease from the germs in the ground. He has no protection against it. Also, the color of

The mockingbird sings is another poem where symbolism is utilized (pg. VI). A mockingbird is
an individual who is presented as an innocent person by the narrator. Despite doing or saying
what is right for his lover and himself, the information he tries delivering to his lover remains
unclear. He ends up repeating the same actions and says to please his lover. The narrator refers to
him as silly and egotistical and that the song he sings is only clear to him and not to others about
the direction of the message conveyed in the song. He ends up failing and probably suffers out of
unclear intentions. The connection of the poem to the title of the book is that the innocent person
in the poem is nature which tries to please humans but all in vain.
The other section where symbolism is evident is Small Porch in the Woods. It is divided into
several poems. In the first one, there is the mention of unshifting star which represents a change that
is undisturbed. It is the turning point of the society. Despite the challenges communities face in
their life, their ambition leads them towards achieving their objectives in life. The second poem
under this section is about a heavy rain that fell in the month of April. Heavy rain is the
representation of unhappy moments. The description presented by the narrator shows that it is a
sad moment where everything is carried away. Throughout the poem, the rain is seen, as a lesson

History of Hearing Aids Essay
The story of the hearing aid depicts one of the most ridiculous timelines of technological
advancements in all of history. Although we modernly think of a hearing aid as a small device
which is inserted into the ear canal, the reality is that a hearing aid is an apparatus that amplifies
sound and compensates for impaired hearing. Thus, I invite you to expand your mind, and draw
your attention to the intriguing, and absolutely absurd, timeline of the hearing aid.
The most common model of the ancestral hearing aid is that of the simple ear trumpet. This was a
small, pipe looking device which was carved from either bull s horn or seashell, and was held up to
the ear in order to amplify sound. The audible result of such would ... Show more content on

The royal member would then angle the end of the tube towards their ear, so that they could better
hear the words being spoken without having to be yelled at.
Next we have the classic ear tube which was developed in 1887. Much like the childhood game
of telephone in which the two styrofoam cups were connected with a piece of string, the ear tube
was simply a long hose with a widened opening at either side. One end was placed to the lips of
the speaker, while the other end was placed close to the ear of the hearing deficient listener.
Effective, yet not exactly attractive to look at...
Finally, in 1901, the first electric hearing aids were designed. Consisting of a carbon microphone,
a processing unit, a battery box, and a headpiece, this hearing aid served merely as a personalized
microphone/amplifier. It was bulky, heavy, and expensive to buy (at about $400.00 each), but it
worked! Thus, its successors followed the same model, but the goal became a matter of size.
It wasn t until 1953 that a person could wear a hearing aid that would go largely unnoticed. The
Oticon pocket model was an aid that looked very much like an iPod its components being a small,
pocket sized battery and processor, and an earpiece which look about the same as what we would
now call an earbud . This was an incredible advancement, but the design was not quite finished.

Figure 3: Overdale Ave (taken on May 22nd at 1:57pm)
This is a photograph of my street Overdale Avenue. This image is included because it represents
the normal activity of my street. My street is quiet, there is rarely any traffic and few travel
down it by foot due to lack of sidewalks and streetlights. In my opinion, the lack of activity is the
reason why the occupants of Overdale Avenue are such a close knit group. Everyone has taken the
time to learn about each other as we are the only people around somedays. My

Gay Marriage Essay
Agreeing with other people lifestyles can be difficult. For example, some people cannot agree to
homosexual marriages; on the other hand, others can agree to live with homosexual marriages. As
published in Procon.org, the article Gay Marriage enlists pros of homosexual marriages. In
addition, homosexual marriages bring forth benefits to the economy, and their lives are harmless to
society. Therefore, homosexual marriages should be entitled to live happy, legal lives.
Rejecting certain groups the alternative to marrying is discrimination amongst themselves which
forms second class citizens. For years, we have fought against discrimination, but fighting for
impartiality has not changed the circumstance. For example, the article Gay ... Show more content

In other words, if homosexual couples were allowed the same benefits as homosexual couples the
economy will become more stable. Heterosexual couples could bring in a lot of money if they were
offered the same benefits the homosexual receives.
In addition, people cannot grasp the evolution of marriage. Traditional marriages have changed
periodically; therefore, marriages are not considered traditional. For instance, the article Gay
Marriage explains Official unions between same sex couples, indistinguishable from marriages
except for gender, are believed ... to have been common until the 13th century in many countries...
(Procon.org). Therefore, heterosexual marriages have been around unexplainably for quite a
while. In addition, there could not be a meaning of traditional marriage. All marriages are different
from others. For example, some marriages are interracial marriages, and others are open marriages.
Therefore, Heterosexual marriages could be no different from a traditional marriage. People make
same sex marriages out to be a negative effect. Traditional marriages, open marriages, or
heterosexual marriages do not matter because they all have the same love connection between each
other.
Positively, Homosexual marriages are protected by the US Constitution. Therefore, people cannot
judge or hate homosexual marriages. The article Gay

A Framework For Epbt Calculation Of Roof Mounted...
A FRAMEWORK FOR EPBT CALCULATION OF ROOF MOUNTED PHOTOVOLTAIC
SYSTEMS
Introduction
Currently, most of the world s energy is derived from fossil fuels (World Energy Resources 2013
Survey). Fossil fuels are a limited resource and might not be able to meet the future energy
requirements of the world for too long (Shafiee and Topal 2009). Apart from being non renewable,
these are also significant contributors of greenhouse gases to the environment leading to air, water
and land pollution (Marland and Rotty 1984). Due to the nature of these resources there is an
urgent need to conserve these resources. It is also important to explore alternative energy sources for
the future. To this end, multiple solutions have been proposed. One of the most ... Show more

It can be anywhere in between 3 years to 30 years or even more depending on a multitude of factors.
Energy pay back time (EPBT):
The Energy Pay Back Time is defined by EPBT = Einput/Esaved, where Einput is the energy input
during the module life cycle (which includes the energy required for manufacturing, installation,
energy use during operation, and energy needed for decommissioning) and Esaved the annual
energy savings due to electricity generated by the PV module. EPBT depends on a number of
factors: cell technology, type of encapsulation, frame and array support, module size efficiency, PV
system application type (autonomous or grid connected) and, finally, PV system performance as
determined by irradiation and the performance ratio. EPBT is also affected by factors that do not
directly relate to the characteristics of the PV power system itself: conversion efficiency of the
electricity supply system and energy requirements of materials like glass, aluminum etc. (Alsema
2000)
In order to determine the EPBT of a photovoltaic system, it is very important to determine the total
energy that is required to manufacture, install, transport and dispose the system as well as energy
required for any other purpose during the life cycle of the system.
A typical PV system consists of different components. The components of a PV system can be
classified into two categories:
1.The Panel: This consists of the panel
2.Balance of system (BOS):

I listened to BBC from September 7 through September 13. I listened to an hour report each day, culminating in 7 hours of intercultural awareness. Because of the lengths of the podcasts, I chose to focus on the main issue that was presented in the podcast. I listened to the 1st podcast September 7, 2016. It was on an issue that has risen in Ukraine between two orthodox churches, the Ukrainian Orthodox church of Moscow and the Ukrainian Orthodox church of Kiev. In a small village in Ukraine called Pticha had the members of the UOM barricade themselves into their church, forcing those who were associated with the UOK to worship off of the property. The conflict was supposedly caused because of the political conflict that is happening between Russia and Ukraine. The leaders of the Ukrainian church of Moscow believes that the members of the church of Kiev are being too political. They say this because the members of the church of Kiev are saying that those involved in the Moscow church are not true patriots of Ukraine. The reporter asked one of the leaders of the church of Moscow if Russia was pressuring them in any of their actions against the church of Kiev. The leader said that Ukrainian orthodox church is autonomous. He stated that [The Ukrainian Orthodox church of Moscow] is absolutely independent in all areas of the church ... • 3. David Role Model Lastly, I find David as an important role model in the Old Testament, as well as Abraham because he was a King, a man after God s own heart, a unifier, a warrior, and a man with great flaws. David had it all, musical talent, physical strength, and boundless bravery. David reigned as king of Israel for forty years, dying at age 70 in 837 BCE. His first and foremost drive was to have a relationship with God. Davidwas chosen especially by God, for the Lord commanded Samuel to look for him saying, Do not consider his appearance or his height (1 Samuel 16:7). Upon Samuel s anointing of David, the scripture notates, And from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came upon David in power (1 Samuel 16:13). David was also known as a great conqueror, as in the incident with Goliath when he makes a great triumph by cutting off Goliath s head with Goliath s own sword. • 4. The Ethics Of Chefs Buying Locally Organic Foods If chefs chose only to buy locally sourced foods not only would thousands metric tons of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) be eradicated and local economies grow, but would pave way for a revolutionary trend, our planet s health may depend on this. In todays consuming world, the ethical importance of chefs buying locally sourced foods are threefold, lowers the use of carbon emissions of produce transportation, availability to fresher, more flavourful foods in the market, and supports local economies to thrive. Ethically, to eat local seems like common sense for thee betterment of the environment and the community. In order to discuss the importance of chefs using locally grown foods, one must first define local foods . This proves to be difficult when the definition of local foods varies depending on where you live. A 2008 Leopold Institute survey of consumers throughout the United States found that two thirds considered local food to mean food grown within 100 miles. (DeWeerdt, S. (2009, June). • 6. The Baroque School Of French Organ Introduction: Rarely in the documented history of music can we found a collection of compositions more perfectly tied to an instrument, than that of the Baroque school of French organ composition. Looking at the earliest examples of music from this period (which stem from even earlier vocal polyphony), one will find forms and techniques indubitably connected to the organ. By the start of the sixteenth century, the establishment of colloquial categories of organ composition, and independent vocal forms, were finally acknowledged. For the following two centuries the technical progression of the organ in conjunction with musical development, resulted in every stop on Baroque French organs being given a standardised function. This function was almost always outlined at the beginning of a score by the composer. Since medieval times French organ building has been well documented and recorded. Later on, Marin Mersenne compiled a book that outlined music happenings in Paris, Harmonie Universelle (1636), this book included French organ specifications and designs. Even from the middle ages, French organs placed an emphasis on tone color. Early French organs had an array of principals, mixtures and mutations, allowing for the creation of registrations such as Plein Jeu. However, organs of this time (late 1500s) were restricted a lot by the available wind power (how fast the boys in the basement could move the bellows!). When on a family outing you can carry a six or eight person cabin tent in the back of your vehicle. Weight is not a large factor when you can pack your supplies in the cargo space of an SUV or pickup. When packing supplies on your back however, weight can be a deciding factor. What you think you can carry on your back, and what you can actually carry, are two different things. Twenty minutes hiking up and down the sidewalk with 30 to 50 pounds strapped on does not mean you can perform the same way physically while in a crisis when walking over rough and uneven terrain for hours at a time. Tents Most backpacking tents are designed for 1 to 2 people. A one person tentallows approximately 15 square feet of sleeping space. Keep in mind you will have gear as well, so it will be cramped. Without education, the child often has no other alternative than to enter the work force while still a minor. As a handicapped, probably illiterate child, he will be sentenced to a lifetime of poverty. Access to education becomes increasingly remote. Over 125 million children are without formal schooling. Archeologists have found hundreds of varieties in creation, shape, function, style, and artwork in Archaic vases. The museum has been blessed with one of these priceless artifacts; it is the duty of this establishment to accumulate as much data as possible surrounding the vase. In first identifying technique, dimensions, and condition, as well as describing shape, ornament, and figural scenery, one may then begin to analyze the vase. • 26. The Light Of Catholic Social Teaching Essay The Catholic Church believes that human life and human dignity go hand in hand. A threat to one is an equal threat to the other. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that, The equality of men rests essentially on their dignity as persons and the rights that flow from it (1935). The Second Vatican Council in Gaudium et Spes recognized that, ...any kind of social or cultural discrimination in basic personal rights on the grounds of sex, race, color, social conditions, language or religion, must be curbed and eradicated as incompatible with God s design (29). In other words, humans were created in God s image and from that we acquire our dignity and rights because of that holy and sacred origin. The plan was meant for all to enjoy a basic equality and yet due to sin, the evil of racismhas been allowed to permeate humanity, thus helping to deny humandignity and human rights. In the light of Catholic social teaching (CST), one asks the questions, in what ways does racism help to deny mankind its rights and dignity, and what are we as the Church doing to help combat this scourge on our communities and on society? Whether one calls it racism, xenophobia, or prejudice, all humans have an innate tendency to pre judge others based external characteristics. This becomes a problem when we allow these observations to become stereotypes where all of one particular community or group are broadly painted by these subjective observations, normally negative.
