The Benefits and Challenges of Open Educational Resources
Energy efficiency
1.
2. The ability to do work.
The capacity of an object to
make things happen.
For eg- When a fast moving
cricket ball hits a stationary
wicket the wicket is thrown
away.
For eg- When a raised
hammer is striked on a nail
placed on a piece of wood, it
drives the nail into the wood.
3. It refers to the efforts made to
reduce the amount of energy
required.
It provides products and
services.
For eg-Compact fluorescent
lights use two-thirds less energy
and may last 6 to 10 times longer
than incandescent lights.
6. .
Efficient energy use, sometimes simply called energy
efficiency, is the goal of efforts to reduce the amount of
energy required to provide products and services. For
example, insulating a home allows a building to use less
heating and cooling energy to achieve and maintain a
comfortable temperature. Installing fluorescent lights or
natural skylights reduces the amount of energy required to
attain the same level of illumination compared to using
traditional incandescent light bulbs. Compact fluorescent
lights use two-thirds less energy and may last 6 to 10 times
longer than incandescent lights.
7. Modern energy-efficient appliances, such as
refrigerators, freezers, ovens, stoves, dishwashe
rs, and clothes washers and dryers, use
significantly less energy than older appliances.
8. Providing power to the
home electrical system
Refrigerator
Washing Machines
Electric Geyser
12. Put the lids on the saucepan to
keep the heat in while the food is
cooking
Switch off the TV’s
and computers. Do
not leave it on
standby.
13. Use appliances with the
BEE rating to conserve
electricity Keep doors and windows shut while
the AC is on for effective cooling.
14. We should use microwaves
instead of conventional
ovens as they heat food
quickly and efficiently.
We should not leave
our fridge door open as
it takes energy to cool
down again
15. LED bulbs save 90%
energy in your house by
switching to them.
Use the collected
rainwater for gardening
and washing vehicles
16. Energy is an important resource in
our lives. we should take a pledge
to conserve it. Energy
conservation is broader than
energy efficiency in including
active efforts to decrease energy
consumption, for example
through behavioural change, in
addition to using energy more
efficiently
17. It is an opportunity for
individuals, groups, busi
nesses and governments
to do something positive
for the environment.
This year too India
participated in the Earth
Hour on 31st March
2012, switching of the
lights from 8:30-9:30pm.
