The gland which secrete their product
HORMONE directly into the blood rather
than through a duct.

5. The Pituitary Gland
 Linked with hypothalamus of brain.
 Produces hormones that affect other endocrine
tissues-indirect influence.
 Produce hormones that affect nonendocrine tissues
directly

6. The Pituitary gland
Hormones :-
1. ACTH- stimulates inter renal tissue
production of cortisol, stress response.
2. TH- stimulates thyroid production of
thyroxin.
3. GTH- stimulates gonads to produce
androgensestrogens.

7. Thyroid gland
 Isolated follicles distributed in connective tissue along
ventral aorta.
 Controls metabolic rate
 Affects metamorphosis, maturation
 Facilitates switch between fresh & marine water
 Seale & bone formation if fish is also influenced by
thyroxine
 Secretion :- chiefly thyroxine

8. Adrenal Gland
 Hormone of steroidogenic tissue are collectively called
as ADRENOCORTICOSTE which act upon the following
process-
I. Osmoregulation, protein and carbohydrate
metabolism
II. Blood cell movement from hematopoietic & lymphoid
tissue
III. Growth, regeneration and anti-inflammatory reaction
 In Elasmobranchs the Adrenal gland does not contain
chromatin tissue
 Component :- a)Cortex
b)Medulla

9. Corpuscles of stannius
 Secretion :- Hypocalcin
 Controls Ca2+ uptake at gills
 Location :-The corpuscles of stannius bodies
lying partly or completely embedded on dorsal
or dorso-lateral ventro-lateral sides of kidney
of bony fishes
 1-10 in number
 pink or white in colour

10. Other Gland
Ultimobranchial gland :-
secretion – calcitonin
Function – regulates calcium level in blood
Urohypophysis :-
secretion :- Urotensins
Function :- Metabolic regulations

11. Other Gland
Pancreatic islet :-
Secretion :- Insulin
Function:- controls glucose & glycogen metabolism
Pineal gland :-
Secretion :-Melatonin
Function :- Photosensory & secretion function.
