“There is a clear lack of visionary mindset at the root
level. Even sometimes the top managers also fail to
understand the core meaning of SE.
Still, lots of SE are coming from the higher class
compared to the middle and lower class.
Informative websites or apps with the latest news on
SE will certainly motivate the young people. “

Despite of his lucrative white-collar job, Mr. Kamal
chooses to build his own dairy firm and now he owns of
the largest firm in the area. Initially, there were so many
challenges, but he kept his faith, researched about the
dairy farm, and started by lending money from his
friend's father.
One hundred dollars of initial investment, and 10 years
of hard labor, he now inspires many young and
passionate people around him to take this career path.

Reflections & Takeaways
How have your definitions and understanding of
"design" and "human-centered design" changed
through this course?
This course reiterates the idea that design
starts with the user and their mindset, as
opposed to from a computer screen.
I understand that human-centred design
recognises that both the designer and the
end-user are humans. The tools and
techniques that we learned are intended to
minimise bias from the designer, and put the
user/interviewee in a place of comfort.
What will you do differently as a result of your
experiences in this course?
As a team, we are committed to spending
more time to assess our own assumptions and
biases prior to starting a problem. It is
necessary to ask users for their feelings and let
go of our own preconceived notions towards
the problem.
Furthermore, some brainstorming tools that
we learned including affinity mapping are
bound to be useful.
What surprised you most in taking this course?
There were probably two things that surprised
us most:
● How seemingly similar people think very
differently.
Prior to starting the course, we assumed
that all of us think similarly. After getting
into group discussions on topics, we
realised how differently we think and how
important it was to have tools to
effectively communicate meaning.
● How people get distracted.
While this is possibly an effect of the
COVID-19, we found that our discussions
often got sidetracked. Earning mastery at
HCD is indeed a matter of practice.
Reflections & Takeaways
How has your approach to creativity and creative
work changed through this course?
Previously, I thought creative work was only
possible from artistically minded people.
However I now understand that creativity is
also a process and ensuring the most creative
output requires ensuring an environment of
zero judgement.
However, creativity can still exist within a
framework of requirements and rapid
iterations can be used to narrow-down and
polish the final ideas.
What was the most unexpected moment in the
process or prototyping or field testing your designs?
Module 4 was probably the most challenging
part of the course. It involved storyboarding -
something that we did not have much
experience with. We will need more practice to
get better at it.
The last call - Aha!
