This document provides an introduction to Sense, an intelligence system for the home. It explains that Sense uses high-resolution metering to sample a home's power usage one million times per second and conducts machine learning to identify the unique signature of each electrical device and determine its energy usage. As Sense collects more data from homes over time, its library of device signatures grows continually. The document also outlines potential smart home use cases for energy awareness and control, home awareness, security and reliability, and control and automation. It notes that Sense is partnering with Landis+Gyr to integrate with next generation utility meters.

Saving Energy with Apache Spark and Toon with Stephen GalsworthySpark Summit
Toon, a leading European smart thermostat and energy display, enables users to control and monitor gas and electricity consumption in their homes. Using the energy data we collect from over 400,000 homes we have developed a new Energy Waste Checker app to give actionable advice to end users to ensure that they do not needlessly waste energy. We identify inefficient electrical appliances and suboptimal uses of central heating and hot water by applying disaggregation algorithms to the raw sensor data. In this talk Stephen will describe our how our novel disaggregation algorithms are implemented in Spark and will show how Toon uses cloud-based big data processing to offer data driven services to hundreds of thousands of users.

Smart home control system (SHCS) can be integrated into an existing home appliances to reduce the need for human intervention, increase security and energy efficiency. However, it is still an open problem due to difficulties such as network distance, signal interference, not user friendly, increased cost and power consumption. This paper reviews various topics on smart home technologies including control system, smart home network, smart home appliance and sensor technologies for smart home. In this research, the proposed prototype of home automation allows users to remotely switch on or off any household appliances based on Internet of Things (IoT) with the enhancement of solar charger. This prototype uses four types of sensors i.e. PIR sensor, temperature sensor, ultrasonic sensor and smoke gas sensor for automatic environmental control and intrusion detection. The hardware, software, and test field design will be discussed in this paper.

Now a day’s individual knows very well about the relation between food consumption and disease prevalence. Humans have a diversity of microbes in the gut that together form the gut microflora. Probiotics are the health-promoting live microbial cells improve host health through gut and brain connection and fighting against harmful bacteria. Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus are the two bacterial genera which are considered to be probiotic. These good bacteria are facing challenges of viability. There are so many factors such as sensitivity to heat, pH, acidity, osmotic effect, mechanical shear, chemical components, freezing and storage time as well which affects the viability of probiotics in the dairy food matrix as well as in the gut. Multiple efforts have been done in the past and ongoing in present for these beneficial microbial population stability until their destination in the gut. One of a useful technique known as microencapsulation makes the probiotic effective in the diversified conditions and maintain these microbe’s community to the optimum level for achieving targeted benefits. Dairy products are found to be an ideal vehicle for probiotic incorporation. It has been seen that the encapsulated microbial cells show higher viability than the free cells in different processing and storage conditions as well as against bile salts in the gut. They make the food functional when incorporated, without affecting the product sensory characteristics.

The objective of this work is to contribute to valorization de Nephelium lappaceum by the characterization of kinetics of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum. The seeds were dehydrated until a constant mass respectively in a drying oven and a microwawe oven. The temperatures and the powers of drying are respectively: 50, 60 and 70°C and 140, 280 and 420 W. The results show that the curves of drying of seeds of Nephelium lappaceum do not present a phase of constant kinetics. The coefficients of diffusion vary between 2.09.10-8 to 2.98. 10-8m-2/s in the interval of 50°C at 70°C and between 4.83×10-07 at 9.04×10-07 m-8/s for the powers going of 140 W with 420 W the relation between Arrhenius and a value of energy of activation of 16.49 kJ. mol-1 expressed the effect of the temperature on effective diffusivity.
