ZigBee
ZigBee is an open, global standard for wireless
communication between devices, and has
become one of the world’s most widely adopted
protocols, thanks to its security, stability, and
potential for connecting and communicating
with other devices. ZigBee certified devices can
communicate and function together, regardless
of vendor and model.
Z-Wave
Z-Wave is a simple wireless communication
technology which enables home devices to
communicate between each other creating
a Smart Home. The Z-Wave protocol brings
affordable, reliable, and easy-to-use smart
products to many millions of people in every

Building your application on top of Develco Products open wireless platform enables you
to focus on the quality of your software. The platform includes the Squid.link Gateway
and a number of wireless devices already tested in large networks.
The Squid.link Gateway offers a fully open wireless platform based on open standards.
Implementing your application in C, Phyton, Java or other language gives you full access
to wireless networks based on multiple wireless standards.
Application API
The application API can be accessed from
applications running on the gateway as well
from a hosted application running remotely.
The remote access runs through a separate
channel established between the gateway and
the server.
For an easy access, a server middleware is
available which is called SmartAMM server
through which you can debug the wireless
communication with the development tool.
Development tools
The Squid.link platform is delivered with
demo application for a quick and easy start.
Develco Products provides a PC based tool for
generating, sending, receiving, and interpreting
ZigBee telegrams and other messages.
Applications can access the hardware
interfaces through an application API. This
API is accesible directly from an application
running on the gateway or from a server via a
SmartAMM middleware.

Develco Products has helped
Tauron establish a network of
smart metering solutions, to
allow Tauron's customers to
more accurately monitor their
energy consumption, saving
them money and lessening the
environmental impact.
Develco Products and Tauron
implemented existing meters
with MEP cards providing
ZigBee and Wireless M-Bus
communication.
Not only does this allow
Tauron's customers to more
closely monitor their power
consumption and thus help
reduce energy costs, it also
built a foundation for Tauron
to build more comprehensive
solutions upon the system,
with the potential to expand
with readouts of water, gas and
heating meters.
The developers are currently
creatinganapptocommunicate
with Taurons meters, making
the usage information even
more accessible to the users.

Hafslund is a Norwegian
electricity supplier. Amongst
its services they offer a power
consumption monitoring
solution called Link. Link is a
subscription-based service,
and is powered by devices
from Develco Products.
The concept of Link is simple:
to allow the home owner to
easily monitor household
power usage, in order to
reduce energy consumption.
Link is a package solution, in
which the household receives
an External Meter Interface and
a Squid.link Gateway, supplied
by Develco Products.
Hafslund has developed a
smartphone app, which is
connected to the Squid.link
gateway, and clearly visualizes
power usage through a live
feed. This provides Hafslund’s
customers with a simple, quick
setup that will allow them
to keep up with their power
usage, helping households
save energy and money.
The setup of Link enables
Hafslund to easily increase
the functionality of the
package solution. According
to customer needs, Hafslund
can provide more extensive
home automation solutions, by
building upon the Link starter
kit.
With the Squid.link Gateway,
the home automation system
can quickly be expanded with
other devices, regardless of
manufacturer; motion sensors,
smoke sensors, air quality
sensors, camera surveillance,
temperature control and more.
This increases the potential
of the Link-subscription, and
allows customers to customize
their Link package, to suit their
individual needs.

11. The Danish State Serum
Institute estimates that 3.000
people die annually, following
hospital-inflicted infections,
stemming from poor hand-
hygiene. Diseases resulting
from lacking hygiene are
estimated to cost the Danish
state 4 billion DKK every year.
When faced with a problem
of lacking hygiene threatening
patient lives, 2 hospitals in the
capital regions of Denmark
tested the potential of using
automated soap dispenser to
bring down the risk of infection.
After analyses showed that
only about 33% of all toilet
users washed their hands with
soap, the hospitals installed an
intelligent soap dispenser. The
soap dispenser registers when
the toilet is flushed, and starts
to blink. Afterwards, the users
are kindly encouraged via
wireless blinking signals to use
the towel dispenser, and finally
the sanitiser.
A total of 10.000 bathroom
visits were registered. After the
soap dispenser was installed,
the rate of hand-washing
skyrocketed: about 80% of
patients and visitors now
washed their hands with soap,
and almost 100% of hospital
employees now remembered
to properly wash their hands.

the soap dispension rate to

hospital staff.

wireless communication interfaces for meters, which allow for monitoring and
