3. Intruder Lockdown
Immediate threat to the school
Intruder Lockdown minimizes access to the school and secures staff and
students
Everyone must remain in the room until the situation has been declared safe by
the Mountain View College Police Department. “All Clear” will be given.
4. When a hostile person(s) is actively causing death or serious bodily injury or the
threat of imminent death or serious bodily injury to staff, faculty and/or students
within a building, we recommend the following:
HOSTILE INTRUDER IN A BUILDING
While this guide refers primarily to academic areas of the building, it
should be understood that these informational guidelines are also relevant
to administrative areas and other common buildings on campus.
5. Immediate lockdown – Faculty, students, visitors
Locate and enter a room in the immediate area, push the green button on the
backside of the door handle (Figure A), turn off lights, cover windows and doors
if safe to do so. Be sure you are not in the direct line of sight.
Some doors require card access to lock the door (Figure B).
Barricade the doors with desks, tables, chairs, etc….

6. If communications are available, call 911 from any campus phone, or using a
cell phone, call 972-860-4290 to contact DCCCD dispatch. Inform the
dispatchers as to the hostile situation and they will notify the Mountain View
College Police.
Do not pull the fire alarm. A fire alarm would signal the occupants to
evacuate the building and place them in potential harm as they attempt to
exit.
7. Turn off lights and all audio equipment to give the illusion of an empty classroom.
8. Keep everyone together.
Keep classrooms secure until the “all clear” is given by the police department.
If you are not in a classroom, try to get to a classroom or an office. Students,
faculty or staff standing in the halls should seek shelter inside of the closest
office or classroom .
Stay out of open areas and be quiet as possible.
9. Shelter-In-Place - is a safety procedure that will help protect students, faculty and staff
by taking shelter inside designated rooms if a tornado warning has been issued for the
area.
10. This alert may also be given by the sound of a siren using one
continuous blast of bullhorns (used during power failure) and flashing lights
located within the building.
Tornado Warning & Severe Weather
Tornado sirens will sound to alert of a possible tornado in the area.
Tornado sirens will sound letting people know that a tornado was seen or
is forming nearby.
Campus Police will announce over the buildings public announcement
system and/or telephones to seek shelter. The announcement will also be
sent via text message through Blackboard to all campus personnel.
Retrieve personal items, secure sensitive information, and seek shelter
at one of the tornado safer zones.
11.
12. Take personal items, secure sensitive information, and proceed to the following
emergency areas or to foyers that are shaded in green or blue on the map mounted on
the classroom or work area walls. These emergency areas are also listed on the green
emergency procedures reference chart that is mounted on the classroom or work area
walls.
Shelter-in-place locations are also marked inside of the building with “Tornado Safer
Zone” signs.

H36.

18. Fire Drill
A method of practicing the evacuation of a building for a fire.
Generally, the emergency system (usually the fire alarm) sounds and the building is
evacuated as though a real fire had occurred.
Usually, the time it takes to evacuate is measured to ensure that it occurs within a
reasonable length of time, and problems with the emergency system or evacuation
procedures are identified to be remedied.

19. A loud chirping sound followed by flashing lights will signal a fire alarm. Campus
Police will announce over the building intercoms or telephones to exit the building
at the nearest exit.
When the fire alarm has been activated, either smoke has been detected or one of the pull
stations have been pulled.
20. Move away from the building at least 300 feet to the evacuation signs in the
parking lots and opened areas.
Re-enter the building only after the “All Clear” has been given by
the campus police.
Take all personal items, secure sensitive information, and evacuate the
building at the nearest exit. DO NOT USE ELEVATORS.
First ask and then assist handicapped individuals out of the building or
alert a CERT member/Fire Personnel of their location.
Silenced Fire Alarms are not a signal to re-enter the building.
