Introduction
The Eagle Ridge Emergency Operations Plan focuses on student and
faculty safety. During the event of an emergency, the procedures in this plan
will be activated accordingly. This plan will overview the different types of
emergencies, and the actions that should be taken during those events. In
case of an emergency please dial 911 and 762-2900 to make an all-call.

Types of Emergencies and Definitions
Fire – A fire is defines as any open flame that is uncontrolled
within the school or on the premises.
Severe Weather – This is defined as any type of weather that is
harmful to property or students and faculty.
Sheltering – This is the act of taking cover in a designated area to
avoid harm.
Evacuations – Evacuations are when the entirety of the building is
evacuated in to designated zones outside of the building.
Lockdowns – A lockdown means that students and faculty will
remain in their rooms out of sight with doors locked. Not only will
classroom doors be locked, but no access in or out will be allowed.
Health Emergency – A health emergency is when a student or staff
needs medical attention, provided by the school nurses office or
outside medical professionals.

Training
Listed below is the type of drills and training related directly to
emergency operations and how often they occur. A record of each exercise
should be kept in chronological order with after action reports.
Fire Drills
 Fire drills must to be conducted once a month per school year.
o Goal is to have Students & Staff evacuated the school within TEN minutes
of fire alarm sounding.
o After-action report must be conducted after exercise.
Severe Weather Drills
 Severe weather drills must to be conducted twice per school year.
o Goal is to have Students & Staff in predetermined locations within FIVE
minutes of drill start time.
Evacuation Drills
 Evacuation drills must to be conducted twice per school year.
o Goal is to have Students & Staff evacuated the building within TEN
minutes of fire alarm sounding.
Lock Down Drills
 Lock down drills must to be conducted twice per school year.
o Goal is to have Students & Staff in predetermined locations within TWO
minutes of drill start time.

Fire Emergency
In the event of a fire within or on schoolpremises, the teachers and
staff will evacuate until the fire department deems it is acceptable to return
to the building. The procedures are as follows:
Teachers and Students
1. Fire Alarms Sounds or Announcement of a Fire.
2. Line up with class roster and crisis bag.
3. Exit classroomand close door.
4. Teachers closest to the restrooms will call out, or go into restroom to
ensure it is empty.
5. Lead class to the closestexit and move away from the building.
6. Once outside and a safe distance away, call roll.
7. Hold up a green card is everyone is present. Hold up a red card if not.
Administration and Staff
1. Fire Alarms Sounds or Announcement of a Fire.
2. Move towards the nearest exit and close doorbehind you.
3. Move a safe distance away or to a designated area.
4. Do not reenter the building without further instruction.
Evacuation and Reverse Evacuation
Evacuation
1. An evacuation is called over the PA system, or alarms sound.
2. Students and staff members leave the building immediately.
3. Teachers will hold up a green card is all students are present.
4. Do not reenter the building, and wait for further instruction.
Reverse Evacuation
1. Students and staff members that are outside the building need to make
their way into the building. Many times this will follow directly after
an evacuation.

Teachers and Students
Main Building
1. Line up in the classroomand exit to the predetermined location with a
class roster and your Crisis Bag
2. Students will crouchin duck and cover positions quietly.
3. Please be ready to receive direction and be prepared to move students
to an alternate location if necessary
Portables
1. Line up in the classroomand exit to the main building to a
predetermined location.
2. Students will crouchin duck and cover positions quietly.
3. Please be ready to receive direction and be prepared to move students
to an alternate location if necessary
Administration and Staff
1. Move to the predetermined location
2. Get into the duck and cover positions
3. Please be ready to receive direction and be prepared to move to an
alternate location if necessary.
Sheltering
Teachers and Students
1. An announcement to shelter in place is made.
2. Teachers will shut doors and windows.
3. Teachers and Students will remain in their classrooms.
4. Teachers should move their class away from windows and doors.
Administration and Staff
1. An announcement is made to shelter in place.
2. All staff will stay in their offices.
3. Doors will be sealed and the ventilation system will be shut off.

Lockdowns
Soft Lock Down
1. Students continue learning and can move throughout the
building
2. Students at recess come inside
3. Doors locked, window shades closed (including door)
4. Teachers may continue teaching
5. Administrators prepare for a Hard Lock Down
6. Portables come into the building
o Portable 1 goes to the computer lab
o Portable 2 goes to the library
o Portable 3 goes to 101
o Portable 4 goes to 400
Hard Lock Down
1. All students will immediately be brought into a classroom
o Students in co-curr remain there
o Students at recess will go to the Bluffs entrance and
“hide”
o Students at lunch will move into the designated area
o Teachers by restroom will ensure that all students are in
a classroom
2. Doors locked, window shades closed (including door), lights
off, all students and teachers will be in the corner of the room
away from the door
3. Portables will stay in place, unless a Soft Lock Down was
called first.

Relocation Procedures
Critical Information
Evacuation procedures are used when conditions are safer outside the
building than inside the building.
Evacuation:
1. Building administrator initiates evacuation procedures.
2. Evacuation routes may vary according to the type of emergency.
o Fire: Follow primary routes unless blocked by smoke or fire.
Know the alternate route.
o Bomb Threat: Building administrator notifies staff of
evacuation route dictated by known or suspected location of
device.
o Hazardous Materials: Avoidance of hazardous materials is a
must, plan route in accordanceto situation.
When Implementing EVACUATION and RELOCATION procedures:
Building Administration
1. Determine whether students and staff should be evacuated to a
relocation center
2. Alert schoolemergency responseteam of emergency type and
evacuation
3. Notify relocation center
4. Coordinate transportation or student process to relocation center
5. Announce evacuation

Students and Teachers
1. Take emergency go-kit and class roster
2. Take the closest and safest way out as posted or announced
3. Use a secondaryroute if primary rout is inaccessible
4. Do not lock classroomdoors when leaving
5. Do not stop for student or staff belongings
6. Remain with class en route to the relocation center
7. Take attendance upon arriving at the center
8. Reportany missing, extra or injured students to building
administration
9. Wait for additional instructions

Health Emergency
A health emergency is when a student or staff needs
medical attention, provided by the school nurses office or
outside medical professionals.
Students, Teachers, Administration, and All Staff
1. A health emergency will be called over the PA system
3 times including the location.
2. In the event a health emergency is called, keep all of
your students in the classroom or get to your
classroom quickly
3. If you see a student in the hallway, pull them into your
classroom
4. If you are at lunch and the code is in the cafeteria,
teachers will need to immediately come and get your
students and take them to the classroom.
5. Keep the hallways clear until the all clear is
announced.
6. The Nurse’s Clinic is closed temporarily.

there was a fire emergency at Eagle Ridge Elementary. Students
and staff evacuated the building and an investigation has begun.

I’m contacting you to let you know about an incident that
happened on campus. A fire alarm was activated and there was a
fire on campus. Emergency personals where called and students
and staff evacuated the school. An investigation is being conducted
to determine the source of the fire. The safety and security of our
students and employees is a top priority at Eagle Ridge
Elementary, and we will always take every precaution to mitigate
these situations. Please take this opportunity to talk with your
child(en) to ensure they understand their roles and responsibilities
during any situation such as the one we experience today.
There may be a different method used today for child pick up so
please insure that you bring a photo identification card, a child will
not be released to anyone not on the designated emergency contact
list.
You may contact my office at 817-744-6300 if you have any
questions. I appreciate your cooperation and partnership regarding
your child’s education and safety.
Fire Drill

MONTHLY FIRE DRILL. We will be conducting a fire drill at
Eagle Ridge Elementary to better prepare students and staff. Your
child is safe and there is no real fire.

with their roles and responsibilities during a fire so they are not
overwhelmed during a real emergency.

sure your emergency contact information sheet is current and
accurate. It is a good idea to have several trusted adults listed with
the school. In order to protect students, in case of an actual
emergency students will only be released to the persons provided
on the emergency information sheet.

Severe Weather

(WARNING) A severe weather alert has be issued for Tarrant
County. The warning will continue until _____________.Please
be advised that if severe weather continue we may have early
dismissal/ late arrival and pickup may be altered.

As you know we have experienced some severe weather today. In
an effort to keep our students and staff during severe weather our
school works with local authorities to monitor conditions and
proceeds with arrival and dismissal based upon known conditions.
Please be advised that if severe weather continue we may have
early dismissal and/or late arrival.
There may be a different method used today for child pick up so
please insure that you bring a photo identification card, a child will

list.

Soft Lockdown

An incident occurred on Eagle Ridge Elementary campus that
caused administrators to issue a soft lockdown. Please do not
attempt to pick up your child at this moment, more information
will be provided when the situation is better known.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
This letter is to inform you about a lockdown that we had this
morning/evening. Our school is committed to the safety and
education of all our students. We also want to clearly communicate
with parents about safety issues when they arise.
Describe the situation.
We immediately followed our procedures to go into a lockdown.
Restrooms and hallways were cleared, and all doors were locked.
Class still continues as normal but students stayed inside the
classrooms so they could be accounted for. During this time we did

not allow anyone to enter or exit the building including approved
adults. We remained in lockdown until we were contacted by
emergency personal that the situation was clear and safe and
school resume normal operations.
Sometimes, lockdown situations can frighten students. Please
discuss this situation with your child and let us know if you need
assistance. Counselors are available.

Soft Lockdown Drill

frightening and difficult for our young students to understand.
They will be given the opportunity to ask any questions they may
have in advance, and are expected to follow their teachers’
instructions during the drill. Please encourage your child to stay
calm and follow the procedures during lockdown event.
This letter also serves as a reminder to parents/guardians to make
sure your emergency contact information sheet is current and
accurate. It is a good idea to have several trusted adults listed with

Active Shooter/Hard Lockdown

EXTERNAL THREAT. An incident occurred on Eagle Ridge

personals, and more information will be provided when the
situation is better known.

  • 6. 6 Fire Emergency In the event of a fire within or on schoolpremises, the teachers and staff will evacuate until the fire department deems it is acceptable to return to the building. The procedures are as follows: Teachers and Students 1. Fire Alarms Sounds or Announcement of a Fire. 2. Line up with class roster and crisis bag. 3. Exit classroomand close door. 4. Teachers closest to the restrooms will call out, or go into restroom to ensure it is empty. 5. Lead class to the closestexit and move away from the building. 6. Once outside and a safe distance away, call roll. 7. Hold up a green card is everyone is present. Hold up a red card if not. Administration and Staff 1. Fire Alarms Sounds or Announcement of a Fire. 2. Move towards the nearest exit and close doorbehind you. 3. Move a safe distance away or to a designated area. 4. Do not reenter the building without further instruction. Evacuation and Reverse Evacuation Evacuation 1. An evacuation is called over the PA system, or alarms sound. 2. Students and staff members leave the building immediately. 3. Teachers will hold up a green card is all students are present. 4. Do not reenter the building, and wait for further instruction. Reverse Evacuation 1. Students and staff members that are outside the building need to make their way into the building. Many times this will follow directly after an evacuation.

Teachers should move their class away from windows and doors. Administration and Staff 1. An announcement is made to shelter in place. 2. All staff will stay in their offices. 3. Doors will be sealed and the ventilation system will be shut off.

Teachers may continue teaching 5. Administrators prepare for a Hard Lock Down 6. Portables come into the building o Portable 1 goes to the computer lab o Portable 2 goes to the library o Portable 3 goes to 101 o Portable 4 goes to 400 Hard Lock Down 1. All students will immediately be brought into a classroom o Students in co-curr remain there o Students at recess will go to the Bluffs entrance and “hide” o Students at lunch will move into the designated area o Teachers by restroom will ensure that all students are in a classroom 2. Doors locked, window shades closed (including door), lights off, all students and teachers will be in the corner of the room away from the door 3. Portables will stay in place, unless a Soft Lock Down was called first.

Building administrator initiates evacuation procedures. 2. Evacuation routes may vary according to the type of emergency. o Fire: Follow primary routes unless blocked by smoke or fire. Know the alternate route. o Bomb Threat: Building administrator notifies staff of evacuation route dictated by known or suspected location of device. o Hazardous Materials: Avoidance of hazardous materials is a must, plan route in accordanceto situation.   • 11. 11 Health Emergency A health emergency is when a student or staff needs medical attention, provided by the school nurses office or outside medical professionals. Students, Teachers, Administration, and All Staff 1. A health emergency will be called over the PA system 3 times including the location. 2. In the event a health emergency is called, keep all of your students in the classroom or get to your classroom quickly 3. If you see a student in the hallway, pull them into your classroom 4. If you are at lunch and the code is in the cafeteria, teachers will need to immediately come and get your students and take them to the classroom. 5. Keep the hallways clear until the all clear is announced. 6. The Nurse’s Clinic is closed temporarily.
