TYPES OF LINES
VERTICAL LINE
Lines that are right angle.
Perpendicular to a plane.
It carry the eyes upward and creates a soaring feeling.
It makes the final drawing appear tall and poised.
HORIZONTAL LINE
Line that are parallel to horizon
They lead the eye from left to right
It connotes rest, peace, quietness, serenity.
DIAGONAL LINE
Intersect two
points in a sloping way.
Slanting line creates an illusion
of energy.
Shows power of decline, powerless.
CURVED LINE
Suggest energy and movement.
Not angular.
It is graceful and show life and energy.
ZIGZAG LINE
Jagged, toothed appearance.
Make an artwork appear inconsistent and out of control.
Connotes confusion and disturbance.

• A line is linear mark made with a pen, pencil, brush, chalk
or any other marking tool.
• They can be straight, curved or irregular shaped.

Lines have a sense of movement

There are THREE categories of lines:

5. Are lines which imply quietness,
calmness, rest and relaxation.
HORIZONTAL Lines:
They show little or no movement
ELEMENT OF ART:
The word horizontal comes from the
word HORIZON which is that imaginary
line where the sea and sky appears to
meet.
6. Are lines which shows some movement such as in a tall light pole.
VERTICAL Lines:
They are stable and gives a feeling of strength and balance.

9. Lines can be found everywhere. They can be found in the
natural and in the man-made environment. Lines can also be
