2. What is a Line?:
• A line is linear mark made with a pen, pencil, brush, chalk
or any other marking tool.
• They can be straight, curved or irregular shaped.

3. Every line has three characteristics:
i. THICKNESS:
ii. Direction:
iii. Rhythm:
The width of the line or mark
The forward movement of
the line
Lines have a sense of movement

i. Horizontal lines
There are THREE categories of lines:
ii. Vertical lines
iii. Diagonal lines

5. Are lines which imply quietness,
calmness, rest and relaxation.
HORIZONTAL Lines:
They show little or no movement
ELEMENT OF ART:
The word horizontal comes from the
word HORIZON which is that imaginary
line where the sea and sky appears to
meet.

6. Are lines which shows some movement such as in a tall light pole.
VERTICAL Lines:
They are stable and gives a feeling of strength and balance.

7. Are dynamic which strongly suggest motion or movement and action.
DIAGONAL Lines:
Diagonal lines shows quick fast movement.

8. Lines have character and names that describe them.
ELEMENT OF ART:

9. Lines can be found everywhere. They can be found in the
natural and in the man-made environment. Lines can also be
used as decoration.
