This document provides an overview of atoms and elements. It defines atoms as the building blocks of matter and notes they consist of protons, neutrons, and electrons. The protons and neutrons are in the nucleus at the center, and electrons orbit around it. Elements are made of the same type of atom and are the basic units that combine to form all molecules. Two common models of atoms are presented: the Bohr model which depicts all subatomic particles, and the Lewis dot structure which shows only the outer shell electrons. Examples are given of drawing each model for the element lithium. Readers are then instructed to build physical models and drawings of the first 20 elements using various beans and a fold-out chart.
