The committee meeting covered the following agenda items: 1. Committee members were required to sign affidavits confirming no conflicts of interest in materials under review. 2. The committee was reminded to adhere to all rules and procedures for the instructional materials adoption process. 3. Key dates were announced including training sessions in November and December, a vendor showcase in December, and voting in February to select materials for adoption.

3. 1. Sign and turn in an affidavit.

compensation has not been received directly or indirectly
from any publishers for any materials under review.
Please Note:
“Serving as a writer or author for materials under
consideration will disqualify a teacher from
being part of the Instructional Materials
committee and from voting on the related
Instructional Materials adoption.”

4. 2. Adhere to all rules and procedures for
instructional materials adoption process.
3. Attend all scheduled Instructional Materials
committee meetings.
4. Train campus team leaders on the procedures
for facilitating the review of
instructional materials up for adoption.

5. 5. Revise the NISD Social Studies Rubric for
Instructional Materials.
6. Receive training on the use of the rubric.
7. Train all grade level teachers on the use of
rubric.
8. Bring campus selection and rubrics to the
designated location.

7.  Election of one person to be the representative for the
District Instructional Materials Committee
 This representative must attend:
Open Instructional Materials Forum and Viewing for public
hearing on December 11, 2014 from 5:00 pm-6:30 pm
Board Meeting for Approval of Instructional Materials
Adoption in March 24, 2015

9.  Invitations to workshops or presentations by
publishers are acceptable only if such
workshops are open to other school districts
and are offered outside of school hours.
 Attending purely social functions sponsored by
a publisher is prohibited.

10. Door prizes awarded may not exceed $50 in value.
However, items of greater value that qualify as
instructional materials can be accepted for use in
the classroom. Materials received are property of
NISD.

11. During any presentation, formal or informal, no
derogatory remarks or comparisons of programs are
to be made by the publishers’ representatives,
teachers, or committee members.

12.  Sample instructional materials may be
delivered via online electronic format (if
available).
 Sample materials in print form may be sent to
individual campuses by publishers
(if available).

13. Publishers’ representatives may display
materials on campus and be available for
questions, with the principal’s approval prior
to December 19, 2014.

14. Publishers’ representatives may not make
contact with campuses after December 19,
2014, but may respond to a committee
member’s inquiry throughout the remainder
of the adoption process.

15.  Publishers will have the opportunity to
give a formal presentation to the subject-area
committee through a Vendor
Showcase.
 Vendor Showcase has been scheduled
for December 20 at NAC.

16.  Schedule time to meet with campus team leaders
and administration.
 Share Rules and Procedures information with
team leaders and administrators.
 Watch for emails and information concerning steps
for previewing materials.
