Self-Explanatory Non-Funded Project Study of Dysmenorrhea and Impact on Quality of Life in Rajgad Dnyanpeeth's College of Pharmacy-Savitribai Phule Pune University Pune by Rahul Hajare* in Developments in Clinical & Medical Pathology
This study examined whether disease-specific cognitive perceptions, as measured by the Self Efficacy Measure in Sleep Apnea (SEMSA), influence adherence to continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The study found that treatment self-efficacy, or one's belief in their ability to use CPAP, predicted both short-term (1 week) and longer-term (1 month) CPAP use, but only when measured after patients received education about CPAP treatment. Baseline SEMSA scores before education did not predict CPAP use. The results suggest that cognitive perceptions formulated after learning about treatment better reflect patients' initial experience with and acceptance of CP

This document describes a case study of a 20-year-old female patient who presented with involuntary movements. She was diagnosed with a hyperkinetic movement disorder by physicians previously and was on medication for a year. Upon examination at SKAMC Bangalore, she was found to have generalized involuntary movements, neck pain, nausea, reduced appetite, and constipation. Based on her symptoms and an Ayurvedic approach, she was diagnosed with Snayugathavata, a type of vata disorder. Following Ayurvedic treatment, the patient showed marked improvement in her quality of life. The case study aims to demonstrate how an Ayurvedic perspective can be used to diagnose and manage such movement disorders.
The document discusses a study exploring the role of dietitians in multidisciplinary treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). The study involved a two-phase mixed methods design, beginning with an online survey of 261 healthcare providers, followed by focus groups with 9 providers. Survey results found that multidisciplinary clinics could improve access and outcomes for PCOS patients. Focus groups revealed that while dietitians play an important role in PCOS treatment, they face challenges like lack of referrals and insurance barriers. Providers felt more awareness and education are still needed on nutrition interventions for PCOS.

Strategies to prevent death by suicide: meta-analysis of randomized controlle...Ahsan Aziz Sarkar
This meta-analysis reviewed randomized controlled trials comparing suicide prevention interventions to usual care. It found that the WHO's Brief Intervention and Contact intervention was associated with significantly lower odds of death by suicide. Cognitive behavioral therapy and lithium also showed fewer suicide deaths among intervention groups, but results were not statistically significant. Overall, most psychosocial interventions and pharmacotherapies did not show clear evidence of reducing suicide risk. The study highlights the need for further research on effective prevention strategies.
The document describes the use of the Roy Adaptation Model in caring for a patient diagnosed with breast cancer who underwent breast-conserving surgery. The Roy Adaptation Model evaluates patients across four modes of adaptation: physiologic, self-concept, role function, and interdependence. The case study applies the nursing process based on the Roy Adaptation Model by assessing the patient in the four modes and identifying nursing diagnoses to develop a holistic care plan. The goal is to increase the patient's adaptation through meeting needs across the four modes of the model.
Objective: The aim of the study was to identify level of stress among nurses according to their job status. Background: Stress is highly associated with nursing profession. This stress is caused by several factors both personal and organizational such as educational level, gender, nature of work environment and work overload etc. These factors directly or indirectly expose nurses to a considerable level of stress. If a nurse works at two places, their stress level will predictably be much higher than that of those who work at a single place. Methodology: Quantitative analytical cross-sectional study design was applied in a private tertiary care hospital at Peshawar, Pakistan. Study population included all nurses working in the mentioned hospital. Universal sampling technique was used for double jobber nurses, while convenient sampling technique was used for single jobber nurses. An adopted questionnaire was used for data collection. Chi-square test was applied to analyze the data. Result: Among double jobber nurses, 23.33% had severe, 63.34% had moderate, and 13.33% had mild level of stress. On the other hand, there was no severe level of stress among single jobbers; only 20% had moderate and 80% had mild level of stress. Conclusion: The current study identified that level of stress was higher in double jobber nurses as compared to single jobber nurses. The study would have been more generalizable if more tertiary care hospitals were included for data collection.
RESULTS OF A SURVEY OF PARTICIPANT FEEDBACK AT ACYTER, JIPMER, PONDICHERRYYogacharya AB Bhavanani
The document summarizes the results of a survey conducted at the Advanced Centre for Yoga Therapy Education and Research (ACYTER) in India between March and June 2011. 100 patients who regularly attended yoga therapy sessions for at least one month completed a questionnaire. The majority of participants were between 40-60 years old and attended sessions 3 days per week. Over half reported their health was better than when starting yoga practice. Suggestions for improvement included more space and longer/additional sessions. A post-intervention questionnaire also found that over 75% felt better or much better physically and psychologically after yoga therapy.
Summary of current research on routine outcome measurement, feedback, the validity, reliability, and effectiveness of the ORS and SRS (or PCOMS Outcome Management System)
- The study systematically reviewed physical activity interventions for adolescent cancer patients and survivors. Four controlled trials involving physical activity during or after cancer treatment were identified.
- The limited evidence available suggests physical activity is safe for adolescent cancer patients, but more high-quality studies are needed to determine effectiveness on health outcomes due to few existing studies.
- Future research should investigate optimal timing, settings, durations and intensities of physical activity interventions as well as potential moderating factors like age, gender and cancer type.
A tele-rehabilitation program for stroke survivors called CLEAR was evaluated. The program provided task-oriented rehabilitation in hospitals, homes, and community kiosks. 253 patients received either usual care or the CLEAR program. The CLEAR program was found to be safe and more effective than usual care based on improvements in arm function, disability, and quality of life. Adherence to the kiosk sessions was predicted by distance from home to kiosk and need for assistance. Patients were highly satisfied with the program and found it useful. The tele-rehabilitation approach reduced travel costs and time compared to usual care.
Title:
Adventure Therapy: Treatment Effectiveness and Applications with Australian Youth
Abstract:
This final seminar reviews the original contribution of Bowen’s (2016) PhD thesis to the field of adventure therapy. This thesis advances understanding of the therapeutic uses and treatment effectiveness of adventure therapy by systematically reviewing the efficacy of adventure therapy programs internationally (Study 1), providing an up-to-date profile of Australian outdoor adventure intervention programs for youth (Study 2), examining the efficacy of the Wilderness Adventure Therapy® model of clinical treatment for Australian youth (Study 3), and examining the efficacy of the PCYC Bornhoffen Catalyst program for Australian youth-at-risk (Study 4). Findings from this thesis strongly support the assertion that adventure therapy should be in the suite of therapeutic interventions that operate in diverse service settings across Australia. This study examined whether psychotherapists' outcomes improve over time and with increased experience. The researchers analyzed data from over 6,500 patients seen by 170 psychotherapists over an average of 4.73 years. Using multilevel modeling, they found that while therapists' outcomes were generally comparable to clinical trials, there was a very small but statistically significant tendency for patient outcomes to diminish as therapists gained more experience in terms of both time and number of patients seen. However, therapists showed lower rates of early termination as their experience increased. The results suggest that while experience may not necessarily lead to better patient outcomes, it can reduce dropout rates.

This study assessed resilience, depressed mood, and menopausal symptoms in 169 postmenopausal women aged 48-68 years. 45% of women had depressed mood and 35% had severe menopausal symptoms. Women with less resilience had higher depressed mood scores and more severe menopausal symptoms. Multiple regression identified two models: 1) Resilience scores correlated inversely with depressed mood and positively with regular exercise. 2) Depressed mood scores correlated positively with somatic and psychological menopausal symptom scores and inversely with resilience. This study suggests depressed mood and menopausal symptoms are associated with lower resilience in postmenopausal women, while exercise is linked to higher resilience.

This study evaluated an peer-led support group called Moms Supporting Moms (MSM) for women experiencing postpartum mood disorders. Intake data was collected from 80 participants between 2013-2015 which found that participants predominantly white (87%) and married (84%) with most aged 31-40 (56%) and having one child (60%). Clinical assessments found high levels of depressive symptoms, with 96% meeting the cutoff for postpartum depression. Approximately one-third (38%) reported suicidal thoughts in the past week. Younger women and those with multiple children reported more severe symptoms. The study aims to help improve support for a broader range of women.
Three months of aerobic exercise training reduces depressive symptoms in pregnant women. A randomized trial assigned 80 nulliparous pregnant women to either a 3-month supervised aerobic exercise program or their usual activities. The exercise program consisted of walking, aerobic exercise, stretching, and relaxation 3 times per week. After the intervention, women in the exercise group reported fewer depressive symptoms on a depression questionnaire compared to the control group. Supervised aerobic exercise during pregnancy may help reduce symptoms of depression.

–Teaching English for the learners pursuing a
course in Engineering does not involve just the LSRW
skills. As it is a course in ESP, more specifically, EST
(English for Science and Technology), we as teachers are
more concerned of equipping them with the skills required
to face the challenges of their profession. The learners
have to face a cut-throat competition as the number of
learners puruing a course in Engineering is increasing year
by year and the companies rely on the professionals for an
extra edge of human skills. The selection process for a job
involves a screening test based on Group Discussions.
These discussions test the soft skills or human skills of the
candidates which are mainly based on their thinking
abilities. A problem is given to them and they are asked to
come to a common consensus as a team. The candidates
are required to employ creative thinking, divergent
thinking, logical reasoning, critical analysis etc. to
perform effectively. Till their graduation, the learners are
used to rote-learning from the (written) examination point
of view. The learners should be explained the importance
of thinking and brain storming at this stage. This paper is
based on the study undertaken by the researcher to
develop the thinking skills of the I year learners pursuing
a course in Engineering.
This document summarizes an experimental study on replacing natural river sand and coarse aggregate with manufactured sand (M-sand) and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) aggregate in concrete. M25 grade concrete was produced with 0-50% replacement of river sand by M-sand and 0-30% replacement of coarse aggregate by GGBS aggregate. Compressive and flexural strengths were tested at 7, 14, and 28 days of curing. Results showed that replacing river sand by 75% M-sand and coarse aggregate by 20% GGBS aggregate produced concrete with optimal strength. This replacement improved bonding between particles in the concrete due to the irregular shapes and sizes of M-sand and GGBS
This document describes the design and development of an electrically powered reciprocating machine for breaking cocoa pods to extract cocoa beans.
The machine uses a reciprocating hammer powered by a 1hp electric motor to break cocoa pods placed in a hopper. As the hammer moves up and down, it breaks the pods against fixed angle bars, releasing the beans. The machine was designed, fabricated using locally available materials like mild steel, wood and tested. It achieved a 93% efficiency and 0% bean damage rate when processing 500 pods in batches of 100. The total production cost was estimated to be 56,000 Naira. The machine provides an improvement over manual pod breaking by reducing labor and potential for bean damage.

This document describes an artificial neural network based offline signature recognition system that uses local texture features. It begins with an introduction to signature recognition and motivation for the system. The system objectives are to develop preprocessing, feature extraction, and recognition phases. In preprocessing, signatures are converted to grayscale, binary, noise is reduced, and images are thinned and resized. Feature extraction extracts texture features like entropy, homogeneity, contrast, correlation and energy. Recognition is done using an artificial neural network classifier that compares test signature features to trained features. The system was tested on a database of 95 individuals with 10 signatures each, achieving 85-90% identification accuracy. Local texture features and neural network classification provide an effective approach to offline signature recognition.
The document discusses a study that examined the communication competencies developed among teacher trainees at Makerere University in Uganda through its teacher education programs. Data was collected through questionnaires administered to 134 third year teacher trainees and observations of lessons taught during school practice. The findings indicate that several communication competencies were developed, including understanding different perspectives, accepting feedback, and paying attention to nonverbal cues. This document presents a new forecasting model that combines fuzzy time series and automatic clustering techniques to forecast gasoline prices in Vietnam. The model first uses an automatic clustering algorithm to divide historical gasoline price data into clusters with varying interval lengths. It then fuzzifies the data based on the new intervals to determine fuzzy logical relationships and forecasted values. The model is applied to a dataset of gasoline prices in Vietnam. Results show the proposed model achieves higher forecasting accuracy than a first-order fuzzy time series model.
The document proposes a novel method for approximating bell-shaped functions that combines hedge algebras and particle swarm optimization. Hedge algebras are used to approximate the function based on a fuzzy rule base. Particle swarm optimization is then used to find optimal parameters for the hedge algebras by minimizing an objective function. The bell-shaped function e^-(x^2+y^2) is used to test the method. Results show the proposed combination of hedge algebras and PSO produces an approximated bell surface close to the original function.
