The longest river is the Võhandu which is 162
kilometres.
We have over 7,000 watercourses.
Waterfalls are only in the rivers of North-Estonia.
Sandstone outcrops are common in South-Estonia.
The western rivers get often flooded.
28. Swamps
A swamp is an area or
ecosystem where lots of
plants remain
decomposed.
Swamps develop when
the land is too wet or
when lakes grow together.
There are 9,836 swamps
which is 22.3 % of the
total area.
The thickest layer of peat
is in Vällamäe bog (18 m).
The biggest bog lake is
the Loosalu which is close
to our school.
30. Groundwater
It is underground water that often gives
us drinking water
Estonia has around 5,000 springs but
many of them are dry in summer
40% of groundwater comes from hills
The biggest springs are in North-
Estonia.
