Meaning and definition of educational
psychology
Educational psychology consists of two words psychology
and education.
Education psychology is the field of education with the aim of
socializing man and modifying his behavior.
According to crow and crow,(1973)
Educational psychology describes and explains the learning
experience of an individual from birth through old age.
According to skinner, (1958)
Educational psychology is the branch of psychology which
deals with teaching and learning.
According to Stephen,
Educational psychology is the systematic study of
educational growth and development of the child.
According to Judd,
Educational psychology is the science which explains
the changes that takes place in individual as they
pass through various stages of development.
According to peel,
Educational psychology is the science of education.
Nature of educational
psychology
•It is an applied branch of fundamental
psychology.
•It is a combination of education and psychology.
•It is a scientific study of human behavior in the
field of psychology.
•It is concerned with these factors, principles,
techniques which related to the various aspects
of child’s growth and development.
•It is concerned with learning situation and
process by which learning can be more efficient
and effective.
•Educational psychology draws heavily from various
branches of psychology, biology, sociology and

when what of education.
•It is not a normative a science as it is concerned with
the value of education and does not concern ‘what
ought to be’. It describes only what it is , it is an applied
