Eugenie Clark Research Paper
Eugenie Clark was born on May 4, 1922 in New York City; she died at age 92 on Feb. 25, 2015.
She died due to lung cancer which she had a tough battle for many years. Eugenie started her
interest in fish and sharks when she went to her first aquarium when she was nine years old.
From there she went to college to study ichthyologist in New York City University. Ichthyologist
is a branch of zoology that deals with fishes. Eugenie received her Bachelor of Arts degree where
she majored in zoology and her Master of Arts degree.
Eugenie Clark Major contribution to the biological community is Clark helped found the Cape

She would visit the fish every week because her mom worked there. By visiting the sharks so
much it made her think one day that she would want to see the wild sharks in the ocean. Clark
began to learn everything she could about the fish housed there and quickly made friends with the
Bowery bums. Some of them were well educated men who just didn t make out in their life, and
they knew quite a bit about the fishes. They were like a bunch of jolly uncles to me. (Biographical

She received awards throughout her lifetime. Some of the awards were The Explorers Club
Medal and high honors from the American Society of Oceanographers and the National
Geographic Society. She was so good at what she did, she even wrote more than 175 articles for
the academic and popular press. With the articles she inspired thousands of people to second

for her underwater films and she was put into the Maryland Women s Hall of Fame. On March
16, 2015 the U.S. Congress posthumously honored and recognized Dr. Clark for her efforts to
understand and preserve the ocean realm. Eugenie Clark taught so many people about the
importance of fish and sharks during her time and today, she also leaves a legacy that will inform

Frequency Distributions
Frequency Distributions In the United States, annual income would have a more normal
distribution than age at time of death. This is due to the fact that more people are in the middle
when it comes to their income distribution, but the majority is on the upper end of the spectrum
when it comes to their age at the time they die. There will always be people who are very poor
and people who are very wealthy, but the largest demographic group lies in between those two
extremes, at the top of the curve. For those who study people who are dying and/or people who
have died based on their age ranges, the majority of people live past middle age, which would be
the top of the curve if one were to overlay that curve onto the annual income chart. While there
are some outliers and variances with any chart or curve, it is still important to take a careful
look at the way the curve is structured to get accurate information (Bryc, 1995; Casella Berger,
2001). The average age for death in the US today is just under 80 for women and just over 75 for
men, so the curve based on age is going to be much different (and much further to the right at the
top of the curve) than a curve that is based on annual income (Bryc, 1995). One of the ways a
person or a business can get information to plot on a curve is to have sampling done. Sampling is
a process by which a business would collect data and use that data to determine whether it wanted
to market to or reach out to a particular subset of

Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
Review: Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness in people
over the age of 50. Every ten years after the age of 50 the prevalence of this disease increases
exponentially. Many different factors contribute to the development of AMD including genetic,
environment, and metabolic functions. Aside from smoking, abnormal blood pressure, and an
unhealthy diet low in fruits and vegetables, many more studies are concluding that similar
inflammatory and oxidative processes seen in other age related diseases are also playing a key
role in the development of AMD. This disease affects the central areas of the retinaand choroid. In
return central vision is impaired while peripheral vision is usually not lost. AMD is seen in two
different forms, the earlier nonneovascular (dry) type and the more advanced neovascular (wet)
type. Each form has its own specific pathology and unique characteristics that set them apart. Fatty,
protein deposits called drusens may be the key risk factor in understanding dry AMD pathology,
progression, and treatment. Once the more advanced wet AMD is diagnosed, pathology and
treatment are targeted around the formation and destruction of abnormal blood vessels,
characteristic of the wet AMD eye. The increasing prevalence of AMD has influenced more
investigation into what factors can be modulated to prevent the onset or to stop the progression of
AMD. This text will discuss the pathology of drusens and the role of inflammationand

Cultural Changes In Canada
Canada s roll in accepting immigrants and refugees ultimately changed the make up of Canadian
society. Canada, slowly becoming a cultural mosaic, changed immigration policies to improve the
life for both immigrants and refugees. This nation, was immensely important in the aspect of
immigration through the 1970s to the 1990s. Canadas acceptance of immigrants and refugees not
only boosted the economy but showed that Canada was a kind, caring, and compassionate country,
and with that came cultural diversity.
Immigration in the late 20th century improved the Canadian economy. As Canada accepts more and
more immigrants the population gradually rises, creating more jobs and increasing the need for
goods and services. The more jobs that are generated,

Usa Patriot Act
After the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, a controversial piece of legislation
was adopted and passed called the U.S.A. Patriot Act. The title for this bill is an acronym for the
United and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and
Obstruct Terrorism Act (USA Patriot Act
).
In the years since the passing of the Patriot Act, there has been much controversy and debate
regarding the positive and negative advantages, and consequences of this bill. As a member of the

Constitution. Along with this expansion of surveillance powers is the sneak and peek provision
(The USA PATRIOT Act and the American response to terror; panel discussion, 2002). During a
discussion panel in 2002, David E. Suchar discussed this provision stating the sneak and peek
provision, which allows the government to conduct secret searches of anyone, including citizens,
without notifying the person that they have a search warrant and that the search is authorized .
Suchar further stated this provision is a very broad standard that probably could be met in a
tremendous number of cases and not limited to fighting terrorism in any way, shape, or form (The
USA PATRIOT Act and the American response to terror; panel discussion, 2002, para. 18). From a
civil liberties perspective, the surveillance expansion provisions within the Patriot Act are troubling
when considering the possibility of abuse, and the trouncing of fourth amendment rights. Another
troubling consequence of the Patriot Act and the expansion of surveillance powers is the use of
profiling. In order to efficiently gather intelligence information for the safety of this country, it
would be common sense to develop a target of sorts to better focus the efforts made. Many believe
that Muslims in this country have become the unfortunate targets of profiling. The monitoring of
those with family and business ties to countries rooted with terrorism is a logical direction for

Letter To Soldier, By Dr. Horgan
Dr. Horgan,
For this journal, my target audience was anyone that was thinking of returning to school,
regardless of their age, or affiliation and wanted it to be as personable as possible. I stated in my
essay that my superiors pressed me to attend classes, and even I try to encourage my Soldiers to
take college courses. However, the truth is, our encouragement is more of a forcing since we
know better, and any decent leader wants them to achieve more than you have in your career. This
paper allowed me to share my story of deciding to come back to college and hopefully, each person
that is having a difficult time deciding can be at ease that they are not the only ones, which will
ultimately change my approach when talking to Soldiers.

Clarence Thomas is just the second African American...
Clarence Thomas is just the second African American justice to serve on the Supreme Court. Until
the very recent confirmations of both Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Alito, for the past twenty
five plus years, Thomas had been the last conservative to be named to the current court, which is
the complete opposite of his predecessor Justice Thurgood Marshall. Thomas confirmation hearings
have gone down in history as those containing the most drama. His hearings would produce such
intense arguments over race and gender. Thomas is one of the most publicly criticized justices in
the history of the Supreme Court. The primary reason for that is the uncommon connection
between his views and the color of his skin. Many black and white... Show more content on

Thomas believed that blacks were defeating the purpose that they had worked so hard in the past
decades to gain. By self segregating blacks were turning away from the real world. And so, rather
than separating himself from the Black Student Union and their personal corridor, he made a
compromise by deciding to live in the corridor, with his white roommate. (Thomas 117, Foskett 99
102)

Thomas was involved in the political scene at a very early age. After just two short
years in Washington, Thomas began working in President Reagan s administration. Thomas was a
rarity in Washington. In the Washington Post Thomas was introduced to the public. The article
read, He is one of the black people now on center stage in American politics: he is a republican, a
long time supporter of Ronald Reagan, opposed to the minimum wage law, rent control, busing and
affirmative action. (Foskett 152)

For eight years Thomas served on the Equal Employment
Opportunity Committee under Ronald Reagan. (Foskett 161 2)

On June 30, 1991
President Bush nominated Thomas to the Supreme Court. Similar to all nominees Thomas was
sure to be asked many difficult and personal questions. And being a black conservative, and to
many liberals and democrats, viewed as a traitor, passing his confirmation hearings and gaining
approval from the senate would be no easy task. If that weren t enough, Anita Hill made matters far
more difficult when she accused Thomas of sexual harassment, ten

Analysis Of Initiation By Sylvia Plath
In the short story Initiation by Sylvia Plath, Millicent Arnold is a narcissistic teenager undergoing
her initiation into the most prestige social group at Lansing High. Despite being aware of the
risk at losing her best friend, Tracy, Millicent eagerly seeks the opportunity to be part of a close
knit group and as a result, she is mistreated and forced to conform to the group s narrow standards.
Plath explains how being part of a social group does not necessarily help one grow individually, but
rather assimilates them into what is portrayed as esteemed social status. As Millicent goes through
the downgrading initiationprocess, she discovers the value of friendshipand realizes that being
associated with a certain group will not help her achieve confidence in her true self.
Firstly, the story introduces Millicent at the end of her grueling initiation about to be granted
entry into a very prestige social group. She states her case would be different (199) implying that
despite getting so far in her initiation, something changes her mind and her ultimate decision to
not join the sorority. She is clearly quite proud of herself and is amused at her exclusive position
being one of the elect. This sense of pride is further enhanced by her best friend, Tracy s support
and encouragement. It is evident how badly Millicent wants to be part of the sorority considering
that Millicent had waited a long time for acceptance, longer than most (200). After years of
wistfully looking

Post-Civil War America
Post Civil War America
The highest court in the United States (the Supreme Court) made a ruling in 1857 that Africans
(blacks) had no rights, could not become U.S citizens, and that Congress had no powers to abolish
slavery. The aftermath of the ruling saw the United States suffer one of the bloodiest wars in world
history the Civil War. In less than ten years since the ruling was made, Congress together with the
Northern states addressed the biases in the ruling. The biases were addressed through the
amendment of the constitution and the civil rights statute. Through the 13th Amendment, slavery
was abolished in all parts of the United States. The 14th Amendment and the Civil Rights Act of
1866 guaranteed citizenship for all qualified, natural born, and naturalized Americans, inclusive of
former slaves and free blacks. The civil rights statute, in addition, authorized the transfer of cases
from state to federal courts in cases where citizens rights could not be enforced through state
systems of justice. The 14th Amendment also prohibited states from infringing the rights enjoyed
by American citizens, as well as, ensuring every citizen had the right to due process and equal
protection of the law (Kaczorowski, 1987, p. 45).

With the current shortage in Emerald City, newcomers to the area begin to buy older home in

According to Dennis Lori (2010), blinds help to control the amount of light gain or loss through

four different popular types of blind in the market, including fabric, plastic, metal and wooden.
Fabric blind is the most considerable product. In specific, fabric shade is durable and sold as a
very competitive price. It is an eco friendly product because fabric is made of fibers from animals
or plants. Besides, one of the most inexpensive products for window dressings is aluminum blind.

The Salem Witch Trials And The Early Civilizations
Although the Salem Witch trials are commonly referred to as the start of the witchcraft persecution,
witchcraft can be found the early civilizations. Evidence of this is easily found in the societies that
had Shamans or Healers of the village, where healing or blessings were done through spiritual
connections. Back then, people were more accepting of it in their daily lives because they depended
on it, but things were different in Europe during the Middle AGes. With the added influence of
Christian faith, and the advancement of technology, many Europeans developed a fear of the
unknown, and fear for the forces that they believed were supernatural and influenced by the devil.
This terror and fear for the scientifically advanced confusion resulted in the persecution and hunt of
all of the unknown, the witches of Europe. Although Witchcraftis mainly associated with The Town
of Salem, Witchcraft had a presence and effect in Europe by the ways it changed everyday life for
commoners, how it forced the European Government to react to its development, and the way it
challenged the Catholic Church. The rise of witchcraft affected the culture and minds of the
commoners by the way it provided a scapegoat for mysterious things that took place, and the jobs
that it created. Witchcraft took the minds and trust of the people of Europe by storm, raising
suspicion among family and friends in the townsfolk. One explanation for belief in witchcraft in pre

At one point we despised each other. We acted and thought he same things yet, hearing the other
talk just irritated us. Everything I was interested in, he was interested in; and so we became very
competitive. Furthermore, in high school we began practicing with each other just to compete. We

spirit sparked the growth out of one of the most valuable and powerful relationships of my life.

Midsummer Night s Dream Irrationality
A Midsummer Night s Dream is one of many famous works written by William Shakespeare, the
greatest writer of the 17th century. It tells a story of eight lovers, four of which simply cannot

Pros And Cons Of Stopping Child Labour
Child Labour as defined by the International Labour Organisation, work that deprives children of
their childhood, their potential and their dignity, and that is harmful to physical and mental
development. This includes interference with their schooling. Child Labour in extreme forms
also involves children being separated from their families, exposed to serious hazards and despises
or left to fend for themselves on the streets of large cities at an early age. (ILO, n.d.). In Cote d
Ivoire, a major child labour form is agriculture where children as young as five work in Cocoa
farms for cocoa industries, which have been the major revenue of 60% of export for Cote d Ivoire.

Examples of actions that could be taken include funding for schools, monitoring of cocoa
plantations, spreading awareness of the cruelty of child labour to households.
However, there are many pros and cons to consider of the implications if child labour were to be
stopped, from the different perspectives of the different stakeholders involved.
The pros will be first discussed. Stopping child labour in Cote d Ivoire would definitely help the
children to be free from physical and mental scars. Child labour, according to various research,
will leave physical and especially psychological scars on the children involved. These scars are
caused by abusive actions by plantation owners, especially those who require the children to
complete an exaggerated amount of work before they get to rest or eat their meals. (Hawksley,
2011).Even if they eventually get out of this cycle and be free from child labour when they grow
up, the scars take a long time, or may never heal. This deprives them of their whole life s success.
Thus, putting an end to child labour will save many lives by allowing these children to experience
childhood and achieve success in various areas of their

The Importance Of The Protestant Reformation
When I think of the Protestant Reformation, the first thing that comes to mind is the
Augsburg Confession. The protestant reformation can be defined as the 16th century religious,
political, intellectual and cultural upheaval that splintered Catholic Europe, setting in place the
structures and beliefs that would define the continent in the modern era. The augsburg confession is
the foremost confession of faith for the Lutheran Church. It was written by Phillip Melanchton and
presented to Charles V on June 25, 1530. The main goal of this confession was to restore religious
and political unity. There are also many reasons why the augsburg confession ties into this and
reveals its importance throughout history.
There are 28 articles included in the confession but we are going to focus on the first four: God, the
original sin, Christ and justification. The first article that the augsburg confession reveals is God.
The church was a major component to the way of life in this era, so they had copious amounts of
control over people and the consequences based on betrayal. The churches were based on catholic
views and the aspects of their beliefs could be supplemented by leaders that wanted to extend their
power and control the church. The goal of the protestant reformation was to change those views that
the churches were claiming to be the right way to do things. In the augsburg confession it outlines
the importance of God saying that he is eternal, without body, without parts...

Kody Scott grew up in South Central L.A. during the nineteen sixties and seventies, soon after the

mother, Kody Scott led the stereotypical ghetto life, a poor and broken home. However he does not
blame this on his own personal decision to join the Crips while only eleven year s old. The allure
of the respect and glory that bangers got, along with the unity of the set (name for the specific gang)
is what drew him into the gang. Once joined, he vowed to stay in the set for life, and claimed that

it was in prison. He now had to make a choice. Once in Prison again, after a failed attempt at gang
unity, he realized that the Afrikan race as a whole along with his newfound responsibility to his
family(wife and kids), was more important than the set , and that he would now leave the set and
the gang life. However this was no easy task, as most who attempt to leave the set don t succeed
or die trying. It took him a whole three years to leave the Crips. He now, however, unlike before,
realized that a banging was wrong for more than just the black on black crime and such, but that
it was a matter of morals and family, and he now no longer took pride in his past actions, but still
took responsibility for them(page 357). Once out of prison again, he was now out of the set and
could start a more normal life with his family and with a real paying job. He was still however

Essay on Serial Killer Jeffrey Dahmer
Jeffrey Dahmer was born in Milwaukee on the 21st of May, 1960, to Lionel and Joyce Dahmer.
From a very young age Jeffrey was a normal young boy who showed no signs of any mental
problems. At a very young age Jeffrey began to develop an interest in dead animals when his
father found a number of dead animal bones while sweeping under the house. This didn t affect
the way he behaved until when he started going to preschool. Whilst attending preschool Jeffrey
was seen as a very shy boy, at the same time his interest in animals began to grow. When Jeffrey
was four years old his father found some dead animal bones under the house and Jeffrey enjoyed
playing with them and breaking them into pieces. This became an exciting experience to him...

His behavior became extreme as he began taking a bottle of whisky to school. In 1975 his
neighbours found a dog s head impaled on a stick and an animal s body attached to a tree.
According to (Masters, 1993) Jeffrey did not enjoy killing or inflicting pain towards live
animals but cutting the limbs off the animal. When Jeffrey reached his teenage hood, he began
having fantasies about killing and disfigure men which is believed to be why he began killing
his victims. (Stone, 2006) argued that Jeffrey suffered from mixed personalities. He fantasized
on having sex with copses where he most of his victims were met in gay bars and seduce them
with free alcohol or money. After having sex he would usually drug his victim or stab them and
then engages into sexual intercourse with the copse or masturbates over it (Miller, Vandome,
McBrewster). Jeffrey would disfigure his victim s corpse into small parts and pour acid on the
head to remove the flesh, where he would keep the skull as a trophy. At times he also kept his
victim s heart and other body parts which he would later on eat (Davis, 1991). (Davis, 1991)
argued that Jeffrey s crimes were committed because of how society rejected him. Jeffrey can be
seen as a (hedonistic) serial killer, someone who gets sexually aroused while committing the
murder (Holmes and Holmes, 2009). His murder victims were sexually abused; his victims were

Jacob Nielsen had expressed his views. His found out that, reading e books with a small screen,

A draft is compulsory recruitment for military service. The draft was meant for young men only
but, since women want the same right as men, the questions is should they register for draft? In
my own opinion, I don t think women should register for the draft. They shouldn t because, they
have to take care of the kids, they are not as strong as men physically and the enemy will target
them the most. My first reason they should not is, they have to take care of the kids back. If
women are register and war breaks out when just had a baby, that means both the man woman has to

Discussion and Scientific Explanation
The purpose of this lab was to create soaps and detergents and test their cleaning ability. We
created four different soaps and two detergents using different starting materials composed of
oils and fats for the soaps and lauryl alcohol and sulfuric acid for the detergents. Soaps are created
by a process called saponification, which is the formation of a salt by combing an acid and a base.1
Soap and detergent are effective cleaning agents because they have hydrophilic and hydrophobic
ends.1 The hydrophobic ends interact with the dirt and oil while the hydrophilic ends interact with
the water molecules effectively washing the dirt and oil away.2 While soaps and detergents are
very similar in their cleaning ability, they have a major difference being that soaps are made from
natural products and detergents are made from synthetic materials.3 In order to make the soaps, we
used four different starting materials including lard, shortening, olive oil, and vegetable oil.

Ask Alice is a novel published in 1971 about a teenager who experiences drug abuse and later
dies due to an overdose. Due to the obscene use of profanity and drugs, as well as sexual content,
the novel has been banned from libraries and schools across the country. The leading reason for
banning is because it is believed to promote and encourage drug use. However, this narrative does
not tell kids that drugs are cool and encourage them to use, but teaches children the consequences
that come with the use of drugs. Although the book was banned all over the country, there was
significant opposition in Rhode Island and South Carolina. In Tiverton,

The Monkeys Paw Character Analysis

03/07/17 The Monkeys Paw The Monkeys Paw by W.W Jacobs. This novel is taking place
inside and around the White family home, called Laburnum Villa. The novel is probably set
around the time it were to be published; in 1902.The author manipulate time by going slow. The
setting changes but it does not affect how the characters are in the novel. As the story progresses,
the house becomes progressively darker and spookier. He uses the horror genre to talk about
some very serious issues. Sgt. Major Morris tells the Whites that the old fakir who put the spell on

Sgt. Maj. Morris wanted to make three wishes because only three men could use it and the fakir
was the man who put a spell on the paw but it also is a curse. The character I relate to the most is
Mr. White because he is trying to protect the paw and people from it. Inside of the story is Man
vs. Man because Mr. White is making a decision to make a wish or let three other men make the
wishes their selves. Internal because man vs. man is inside decision he is having with himself.
The first thing that happened in the story that changed it was that Mr. White gave the paw away
for a trifle, second thing was that Mr. White came in with two hundred pound of British money,
and the third thing was a man getting hurt in the second scene. A mystery is the outcome of the
man disappearing without anyone knowing what happened. The monkeys paw is the central
idea of the story and everything is around that title from page 26 it says, It had a spell put on it
by an old Fakir, said the Sergeant Major, a very holy man. He wanted to show that fate ruled
people s lives, and that those who interfered with it did so to their sorrow. He put a spell on it so
that three separate men could each have three wishes from it. The first man

Research Paper On Sylvia Plath
Sylvia Plath s importance to American history results from the literary distinction of her writing
style, as well as her works that show the difficulty of women in the mid twentieth century. Plath s
significance comes from her writing styles in which she opened the doors to exploration of
feminism to a masculine led society. Plath s life can be explored through her poems and her
stories. By aligning SylviaPlath s works to the events throughout her lifetime, we can have a better
understanding of Plath s importance. Daddyis probably one of Sylvia Plath s best known poems. It
has received many different critiques. These critiques include praise from feminist because of its
rage towards male dominance and its attention to and use of Holocaust imagery. This poem has
been reviewed by hundreds of scholars and the poem has ultimately been deemed as one of the best

The Ecology Of The Deep Sea Species
The Ecology of the Deep sea Frilled shark (Chlamydoselachus anguineus)
The off shore marine environment changes intensively with the change in the ocean depth.
There is three distinctive zones that can be classified the Epipelagic which extends from the sea
surface to a depth of 200 meters, the mesopelagic which extends from a depth of 200 meters to a
depth of a 1000 meters and then the Deep sea which extends from a depth of a 1000 meters to
the sea floor (Castro Huber, 2010). The Deep sea can then be divided into a further three zones
(Figure 01) Bathypelagic which extends from a depth of a 1000 meters to 4000 meters,
Abyssopelagic which extends from a depth of 4000 meters to 6000 meters and Hadopelagic which

within the world (Martin, 2003). The main characteristics of this ecosystem is that it experiences
very low oxygen levels, the water temperature is extremely cold, the pressure within this area is
very high and sunlight do not penetrate to these depths. The species that do live within this
environment are highly adapted to these harsh conditions such as the Cookie cutter Shark (Isistius

The Structure And Function Of Endospores And Capsules Work
Bacterial endospores are highly resistant structures that can withstand many forms of treatments,
including heat and UV (Atrih Foster, 2002), and this characteristic is facilitated by their unique
spore structure. Bacterial capsules play an important role in the virulence of bacteria for their host,
and enable bacterial cells to evade host defense mechanisms and survive hostile environments. The
structure and function of endospores and capsules work specifically to benefit the microbial cell;
furthermore, various physiological changes occur in these structures as a result of environmental
stress (Sahin, Yong, Driks, Mahadevan, 2012). The specific mechanism of these physiological
changes, the types of environmental stresses that cause the changes, and how these correlate with
endospore and capsular structure and function are essential to the understanding of this topic.
Bacterial endospores are dormant, non reproductive, and sometimes disease causing cell structures
that are typically formed in Gram positive bacteriaunder a process called sporulation. Endospores
exhibit high resistance to environmental stresses, and these structures are able to resist conditions
that are unfavourable to most organisms, enabling bacteria to lie dormant for extended periods of
time (hundreds to thousands of years). In addition, endospores are highly durable, as dormant
spores return to an actively growing state a process called germination) when nutrients return to
their environment.

Nuclear Power Should be a Critical Component in a Strategy...
Nuclear power should not be dismissed and must be included as a major component of an
alternative energy source to replace fossil fuels as it has the greatest potential to be the primary
energy source in the future which can work together with other alternative renewable energy
sources to combat global warming and to help meet the world s growing energy demand
Nuclear energy, which has historically been depicted as a dangerous and evil energy source, has
recently seen renewed attention as an alternative form of energy and has been rehabilitated in the
eyes of the public after rising concerns regarding global warming and a rise in the demand of
energy (World Nuclear Association 2011). However, due to the March 2011 Fukushima accident,...

Furthermore, the lack of containment barriers is explained by Morris (2000, pp.25), as one reason
why western countries would never allow a reactor similar to Chernobyl s to be built in their
countries. In addition, Chernobyl was similar to Fukushima in that this tragedy demonstrates the
failure of government planners, not an inherent danger of nuclear power (Morris 2000, pp.27).
Moore (2006) also argues that the Three Mile Island accident, which occurred 7 years before the
one at Chernobyl, was actually a success story , as although the reactor was damaged, it caused no
harm to the nearby population because the reactor was well contained with a concrete containment
structure. In addition, McCarthy (1995), states that nuclear energy has an exceptionally good safety
record and Chernobyl was the only accident with fatalities.
A second argument against nuclear power is that it is not a clean energy source since nuclear
energy produces radioactive waste that remains dangerous for hundreds of thousands of years and
poses a threat to human health that can lead to cancer deaths, and an environmental friendly
solution to manage nuclear waste has not been found (Public Citizen, n.d). In addition, Mark
Diesendorf (2007), one of the renewable energy proponents in Australia, argues that there are not
enough facilities to store high level nuclear waste in the world. Diesendorf (2007) goes on to
contend that the solution

Essay On Black Girl
Film is a series of artistic moving images that make up a story. In every film, the director visually
presents the storyline, different characters, the problems they encounter and how they were deal
with. There is a wide range of ways to study films of various genres. We focus on film language,
genre, mise en scene, representation, stereotypes, etc. In Black Girl, it was depicted as an allegory
and had a lot of mise en scene.
Some examples of mise en scene in Black Girl includes the mask, clothing and objects in the
Dakar and France homes. The mask is a very powerful symbol because it represents Diouana. In

A Report On The Attack Automation Strategy
http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~sunshine/publications/ccr.pdf
1a) An DDoS(Distributed Denial of Service) Attack consists of several phases firstly the attacker
recruits multiple agent machines which will be later on infected with the attack code and further
exploited. The infected machines can be used to further recruit new agents. We can outline those
phases as Recruit, Exploit, Infect and Use.
ATTACKAUTOMATION STRATEGY
The attack automation strategy stands for how much of the DDoS attack does an attacker want to
make automatic and how much to leave for manual control. The strategy depends on the degree of
automation of the phases of the attack. There are three general automation degrees Manual,
Automated and Semi Automated which are explained as follows:
oManual
In that case, the hacker manually recruits machines by scanning remote ones for vulnerabilities,
breaks their security mechanisms, installs the prepared attack code and then directs the attack. This
type of a DDoS Attack has become really outdated since lately all the recruitment phase has been
automated.
Weak design consideration in terms of functionality and productivity.
oSemi Automated
In the Semi Automated DDoS attacks the DDoS network is made of a handler and an agent
machine. There is automation present for the Recruit, Exploit and Infect phases. Through the
communication between the handler and the agent, the attacker specifies the attack type, the onset,
the duration and the victims ID. The

Fossil Fuel Resources For Alternative Sources Of Energy Essay
Diminishing fossil fuel resources have prompted scientists and researchers to look for alternative
sources of energy. Though several alternative sources of energy have been identified, generation of
energy using combustion of fuels still remains the dominant source of energy globally [1].
In search for alternative fuels, biofuels have shown promising results to generate useful energy.
However, efficient atomization of some high viscosity biofuels to yield maximum useful energy
and minimise emissions is an area of research that has not been completely explored so far. As a
result, liquid atomization has drawn a lot of attention among researchers over the past few years [2].
Though several different types of atomization processes are used in the industry, twin fluid
atomization practices have been quite common and effective. Twin fluid atomization techniques can
be broadly classified into Air Blast (AB) atomization, Effervescent Atomization (EA), and Flow
Blurring (FB) atomization.
Amongst these, FB atomization technique is a very recently developed concept that has
demonstrated promising experimental results with high atomization efficiency. Researchers have
conducted experiments to understand the process of atomization in a FB injector as well as the
spray characteristics [2].
However, a computational model has not been developed so far to complement the outcomes from
practical experiments. This project was aimed at gaining further in depth understanding of a FB
injector

Beauty Is Not At The Eyes
Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart True beauty comes from within . The
physical appearance of a person is the first thing another person notices about someone. The
definition of beauty is the combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases
the aesthetic senses, especially the sight. People havecome to the conclusion that beauty is
about the exterior appearance, however, true beauty is defined as the way a person acts and
thinks. In today s society, many people feel the pressure in surpassing their physical appearance.
Women feel their hair, makeup, and clothes need to look flawless in order to be around others.
Whether they are not comfortable with their appearance without makeup, or they feel with
makeup members of the opposite sex will take notice, physical appearance is important to
people. Often times, men focus on a woman s physical features rather than her true beauty on the
inside. Many individuals in today s world need to re evaluate their outlook on beauty. True
beauty lives within the way a person acts and feels. True beauty is not only found in people, but
also in little actions and things in nature. We often take the natural beauties we see everyday for
granted. Although not everyone may like snow or rain, frosty snowfalls and cool rain showers are
one of natures many beauties. Rainbows are another example of nature s beauties. True beauty is

During this time there was relative peace in the Empire that allowed unification of peoples that up
to this point in history had never happened. The peace afforded a time that saw the ability for roads
to be built that connected every corner of the known world that the Roman Empire held. This time
of peace can be attributed to Caesar Augustus (Octavian) due to his ability to manage the Roman
senate in a way that led to government policy to balance all aspects of life. Christ was born into this
time of peace and begins His earthly ministry in the Roman occupied land of Judea. And though it
is the Roman government that crucifies at the behest of the Sanhedrin, it is the Roman peace that
helps the fledgling Christian faith move throughout the known world. This was also due to the
cultural environment precipitated by the Roman peace and with the infrastructure established by

Organ Transplantation Is The Removal Of A Healthy Organ
Carolyn Yuan Mrs. Piechowiak 2nd Period 8th Grade Accelerated Language Arts December
14th, 2015 Organ Transplants Organ transplantation is the removal of a healthy organ from one
person and placing it into another whose organ has failed, or is injured. It is known to be life
saving 80 percent of the time, but it is a major surgery that carries many me potential risks and
complications the biggest one being organ rejection. (WebMD) Organ transplants have quite some
history. The first successful kidney transplant was performed not even a century ago, in 1954.
Despite this small time gap, many technologies have been discovered in this field. Organ
transplantation is being performed much more commonly but there are still many improvements
that are needed to be made. (Transplant Village) Although organ transplants are supposed to save
lives, it may not be worth the risks; it can easily cause health complications and economic
instability to both the donor and recipient. For all, medical risks and psychological concerns can
occur if the surgery is not successful, or if the donor and/or recipient do not recover fully. (Lohse)
In order to prevent the body from rejecting an organ, immunosuppressant drugs are to be taken for
the rest of the patient s life. Immunosuppressant drugs, known as anti rejection drugs, suppress the
strength of the body s immune system in order to lower the body s ability to reject the organ that is
recognized as foreign. But with this attempt for justice,

The Year-Round School Debate
A common debate among educators and school board members is the idea of year round schooling.
While many think this is best for students education, there are factors that could make it so it doesn
t affect their education or it makes matters worse. Most students are great full for their summer
break. They schedule family vacations, which are very important, and they are able to keep jobs
with little to no conflict in the summer. If that time was to be taken away, that would negatively
affect students. There are solutions other than making schoolgo all year round.
A fact on year round schooling is that all schools would still take extended breaks after a set
amount of dates. The US Department of Education requires 180 days of attending school a year.
One idea that a school using year round school might use is the 60 20 plan. This means that
students attend school for 60 days and get 20 days off. This also applies for the 45 15 and 80 30
plans. (Vandewater)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, the workload required of the teachers will go up. In addition, the students will be busy with
school work when they are usually on summer break. This is when most students will get jobs so
that school doesn t interfere. An employer will not want an employee that has to leave every week
or so ( The Year Round School Debate ).
On the opposing side, researchers say that the long three months in the summer that students are not
attending school is when they lose the most information. Another benefit to switching to year round
schooling is that students will not get bored over the summer. They will have shorter breaks. It is
also said that hiring a tutor over the summer is not as good as some may think (Kalil). According to
another study, teachers and students don t have to spend as much time reviewing material that the
students learned the previous year. Also some schools that have switched to year round, got extra
funds

Film Review Of Wasteland By Vik Munniz
Vik Muniz is a Brooklyn based artist who makes art from any items found in trash. The
documentary film Wasteland delved into the souls and exposed the lives of several Brazilians
who worked as catadores or pickers of recyclable items in Jardim Gramacho, located on the
outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. It was the biggest landfill in the world until was closed in 2012. Vik
Muniz traveled to the landfill, met various individuals and involved them in the process of
creating portraits which would then go on display. Vik did not know how the pickers would
respond to this. He traveled to the landfill to see it in person and he talked to some individuals who
worked there. From talking with the manager of Jardim Gramacho, he learned that the pickers...

Teen Suicidal Behavior in our Society
To live is a very fragile and misunderstood term. Countless lives are taken unwillingly each day by
mere accidents, while others are lost fighting to defend their countries beliefs. Some of these lives
grow old, and some do not, but many are not being lived in the way they were intended.
Somewhere along the lines in our society, people have the idea that their own life might not be
worth living. Ending their life is called suicide, and it is becoming more and more popular among
teenagers in this generation. For people between the ages of fifteen and twenty four, suicide is the
third leading cause of death, only behind accidents and homicides (New, 2012). It was recorded in
1996, that more teenagers and young adults committed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is where the school needs to step in and have a greater crack down of the nationwide
epidemic of bullying. Research suggests preventing teenage suicides through better school based
support systems is key, which all starts with preventing bullying (Fisher, 2006). Aside from
religious beliefs, homosexual teens undergo an abnormal amount of stress. From being confused
about their feelings to being worried about how they will be accepted, these teens have enough
on their plate. When homosexual teens get bullied at school for their different views, classmates
rude comments may be enough to send them over their stress limit. Thirty percent of teen
suicides annually are from teenagers who have come out as being homosexual (Woodward,
2005). There is much controversy over the topic of homosexuality, especially when people bring
the matter of religion into the equation. Individuals who are against this choice in life say that the
thirty percent statistic is flawed because it was calculated by a man who was a known
homosexual. They believe that homosexuals should not be looked upon as mentors in schools to
help struggling children, but rather be kept away from them. Controversy aside, it all comes down
to saving lives. Whether people agree with how they live or not does not matter, but their souls do.
No one should be made to feel so insignificant that they would

Moral Topography
In this respect, we can think of our values as providing us with the background of our world,
insofar as this is morally connoted. In other words, our values are the framework that allows us
to organize and see our world in terms of ethical issues and assessments that is, along ethical
lines. Subsequently, I argue we understand our ideals as embodiments of our values, which are
located in our moral space insofar as they are ethical assessments concerning the best sort of life in
relationship to different pretenses3. In this sense, we find our ideals halfway through our values
and ourselves. Insofar as our ideals are representations of some modes of human excellence, each of
them embodies something we value for instance, the ideal of... Show more content on

In this respect, Taylor writes that [...] a doctrine that tells us where our strength lies is what I
want to call a doctrine of moral sources, or a moral topography [...] 4. In other words, Taylor
claims that to study how a self relates to its moral space s framework, is to do something
analogous to leading a topographic study of a terrain. This topography is one which produces a
moral map , where the self is located according to its connections to its environment the elements
of our moral space being the mountains, rivers and the other geographical features represented.
In the present terms, our values are our moral sources in that they provide us with the origin of
the ethical strength needed to give a moral shape to our world in particular, they work as
inspirations and goals to achieve as we relate to them through our ideals. Furthermore, and to
keep up with the spatial metaphor, values are what make us able to interpret correctly the map
resulting from one s self moral topography. Just like we need the idea of North to be able to say
that one mountain on a map is to the north with respect to something else, so we would need the
concept of, say, heroism, to say that on an ancient Greek warrior s moral map Achilles stands as
an ideal of heroism and to say in what way this warrior s degree of heroism puts him in relationship

Chief Justice Earl Warren s Justice
Chief Justice Earl Warren accomplished a great deal before finally being appointed as the Chief
Justice. He was elected as the Governor of California, and served three consecutive terms of
office. In his early years he was the District Attorney in California and also served as the
Attorney General of California. In his time as a District Attorney Warren earned himself a
reputation for being tough on crime, he soon gained a statewide reputation as a tough, no
nonsense district attorney who fought corruption in government. Chief Justice Earl Warren was
appointed by president Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1953 after Warren lost to Eisenhower and
Richard Nixon in the election. Earl Warren was a right wing republican but ended up being more
liberal on the Supreme Court than anyone had every expected. He presided over some very
significant cases that will be discussed below. The three that will be discussed, perhaps the most
important, are Brown V. Board of Education in 1954, Gideon V. Wainwright in 1963, and Miranda
V. Arizona in 1966. Now don t be misled, Chief Justice Earl Warren did a great deal in his career,
and influenced very much, however, his most prominent cases that affected criminal justice and the
community are the focus of this essay. These three landmark cases greatly affect the criminal justice
community and the general public even today. Brown v. Board of Education was a landmark

Women During The Revolutionary War
Women serving in the military is a topic that most people have very strong convictions on. Rather
you are for or against women serving, you can find strong opinions that support both sides in this
contentious dispute. Women have struggled to fit into the military life for years. Even though
woman have fought alongside men in each key battle from the start of the American Revolution,
they still find it hard to shake the stereo types about womanwho serve. Woman have always had to
cloak themselves in a masquerade of sorts to serve alongside men. When woman were finally
accepted into the military, they were given secondary roles to the men. The Pentagon has just
recently began to realize that gender really do not matter on the battlefield. Since the Pentagons
enlightenment, one can now see progress in the integration of women in all expanding military
careers. Women have always proven that they are not only an asset to the military but they are the
strength of the America s military.
Revolutionary War Times
During the Revolutionary War, women played major roles in combat. From supportive positions
like maids, cooks and nurses to auxiliary roles such as spies or secret soldiers. The Daughters of
Liberty did more than their share to help win America s independence. Deborah Samson Gannett,
from Plymouth, Massachusetts, concealed herself as a soldier named Robert Shurtlieff Samson.

Those Who By Insight Know What Love Is Essay
As any romantic will assert, love is by far the most powerful force known to human hearts and
minds. This sentiment is espoused throughout history, almost to the point of clichГ©. Everyone
has heard the optimistic statement, love conquers all, and The Beatles are certain, however idyllic
it may be, that all you need is love. Humanity is convinced that love is unique within human
emotion, unequalled in its power to both lift the spirit up in throws of ecstasy, and cast it down in
utter despair. Loves power has suggested to many that it serves as a link to the divine, and that the
feeling instilled in man by love comes from the supernatural, be it God or otherwise. In La Vita

The physical effect that love has on Dante is apparent whenever he is in its presence, that is,
through a vision of Love himself or through being close to Beatrice. In their second encounter,
nine years later, Beatrice is walking down the street where Dante is standing in fear and
trembling. As she passes him, she greets him, of which he says, Such was the virtue of her
greeting that I seemed to experience the height of bliss [...] I was filled with such joy that, my
senses reeling, I had to withdraw from the sight of others. (5) It is after this encounter that Dante
has his first vision of Love manifested, in which love says to him, Ego dominus tuus, or I am
your master. Love is holding Beatrice in his arms, and in one hand, Dante s heart. Love bids
Beatrice to eat the heart and then, weeping, the two ascend into heaven. It is clear that Dante is
consumed, body and mind, by Love, and sees him as a divine force to which he must submit his
will. Just as devout men who feel the influence and power of God within them give up their will
and lives to the service of their Lord, so Dante gives himself to Love. So strong is his devotion
that his thoughts are entirely consumed by Beatrice. The strain of such a state weighs heavily on
Dante, such that his appearance reflects his turmoil and causes his friends to grow concerned.
About inquiries into the cause of his pain, Dante says, in obedience to Love s will, [...] I replied
that it was Love who had

Communicative Language Teaching ( Clt ) Approach
The field of second language learning has undergone, in the past few decades, many changes.
Nonetheless, from a variety of methods that have come and gone, one has been adopted as pioneer,
which is the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) approach. Nowadays, in fact,
Communicative Language Teaching is one of the most common teaching methods adopted by
teachers of second and foreign languages all over the world. Its origin can be found in the late
1960s early 1970s in the British academic system, which was undergoing a serious of changes that
reflected, none other than, the changes that were occurring in society. The aim of this paper is to
give an overview of what Communicative Language Teachingis, what are its main distinguishing

On the other hand, American linguists, based on Chomsky s language acquisition theory and
concept of linguistic competence, started rejecting the Oral Approach. This was the contingent
cause for a shift in Britain s language teaching method, SLT. In fact, also Britain s linguists began
questioning SLT s practical and theoretical foundations. Therefore, both Chomsky s studies as well
as the criticality British linguists had towards the more traditional methodologies led to the advent
of the Communicative Language Teaching approach.
This approach was very advanced for the time. It revolutionised the strategies of language learning
and also changed the role of the language teachers as well as the language learners. In contrast with
some of the methodologies previously adopted, its main goal is to teach the scholars the ability to
communicate. Thereby, Communicative Language Teaching bases itself upon the concept of
language competence, which is considered the actual basis of proficiency in a language. Hence,
teaching activities involve students in real life communicative situations in which the
communicative task is of more importance than the grammatical accuracy. Other exercises such as
games, songs, problem solving and role plays also are used in classrooms. It must be said that
each of these activities are sowed on the learners needs, therefore, if the class

It Has Become Apparent That Throughout History Societies
It has become apparent that throughout history societies have formed as a means of improving
efficiency and quality of life. In that pursuit, ideology has become the main topic of discussion. The
long lasting argument of which societal structure and set of societal norms will reap the most
benefits continues today, specifically in the United States. However, it has not been until recently
that Marxists methods of analysis have become a significant source of discussion within the
country. As the exploration into Marxist ideologycontinues, it becomes apparent that the concepts
themselves also become more and more normalized within American culture. The idea of Marxism

As displayed in the show, without these factors the fate of, not only the individual but, the group
is at stake. In this zombie infested world, the zombies themselves can be seen as a metaphor for
the Marxist criticism of capitalism. In a similar manner to that of which capitalism seeks profit for
individual s own sake, these zombies desperately pursue and starve for human flesh. The events that
occur in The Walking Dead can help illustrate the principles that Karl Marxand Marxism founded
at the time. Much like it is for the characters in the show, Marxism s ultimate priority is simply to
survive. However, much like the disease infesting the city of Atlanta, capitalism withholds a desire
to expand. It bases itself on risk, causing unnecessary obstacles for people to reach their end goal,
which should be to sustain themselves.
A major point made by Karl Marx seemed to be the abandonment of private property. For Rick s
surviving group the implementation of this concept is a must. In their zombie filled world it is
important that the survivors keep on the move and detach themselves from any useless items. The
group never settles, always residing in temporary homes like farmhouses, camps, shops, and
prisons; knowing that claiming private property could be a liability or futile.
Within the Communist Manifesto, Marx also encourages the abandonment of the family

The Importance Of The Arts At School
Importance of the Arts in School
People often view artistic activities as a leisure activity, so though they may agree it is a nice
thing to have, they may not think it is essential to a person s life. It is the same for schools, with
tight budgets, art is usually the first subject cut from a student s learning experience because it is
not viewed as a priority. However, with all of the academic benefits students can gain from being
involved in any type of art subject, it is important that schools allow students an easy access to art.
By making art programs more prominent, schools would be offering students a chance to improve
academic performance, increase happiness, and open up minds.
Though art is mostly viewed as a hobby, it benefits children academically. One way art helps
academic performance is by strengthening students brains. The principal of Lyons Elementary
School explained the Opening Minds through Art program (OMA) helped teach children concepts
through art that would later help them learn more in different subjects (Smith). Art can improve
students understanding of learning concepts, which will help them in different subjects in the
future. artistic activities engage senses and make neural connections in the brain. The more neural
pathways created and the stronger the become, the easier it becomes for the brain to take in new
information. With a stronger brain and mental capacity, students performance in school with
improve. Academically, art is beneficial

She died due to lung cancer which she had a tough battle for many years. Eugenie started her interest in fish and sharks when she went to her first aquarium when she was nine years old. From there she went to college to study ichthyologist in New York City University. Ichthyologist is a branch of zoology that deals with fishes. Eugenie received her Bachelor of Arts degree where she majored in zoology and her Master of Arts degree. By visiting the sharks so much it made her think one day that she would want to see the wild sharks in the ocean. Clark began to learn everything she could about the fish housed there and quickly made friends with the Bowery bums. Some of them were well educated men who just didn t make out in their life, and they knew quite a bit about the fishes. They were like a bunch of jolly uncles to me. • 4. Frequency Distributions Frequency Distributions In the United States, annual income would have a more normal distribution than age at time of death. This is due to the fact that more people are in the middle when it comes to their income distribution, but the majority is on the upper end of the spectrum when it comes to their age at the time they die. There will always be people who are very poor and people who are very wealthy, but the largest demographic group lies in between those two extremes, at the top of the curve. For those who study people who are dying and/or people who have died based on their age ranges, the majority of people live past middle age, which would be the top of the curve if one were to overlay that curve onto the annual income chart. While there are some outliers and variances with any chart or curve, it is still important to take a careful look at the way the curve is structured to get accurate information (Bryc, 1995; Casella Berger, 2001). The average age for death in the US today is just under 80 for women and just over 75 for men, so the curve based on age is going to be much different (and much further to the right at the top of the curve) than a curve that is based on annual income (Bryc, 1995). One of the ways a person or a business can get information to plot on a curve is to have sampling done. Sampling is a process by which a business would collect data and use that data to determine whether it wanted to market to or reach out to a particular subset of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) Review: Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness in people over the age of 50. Every ten years after the age of 50 the prevalence of this disease increases exponentially. Many different factors contribute to the development of AMD including genetic, environment, and metabolic functions. Aside from smoking, abnormal blood pressure, and an unhealthy diet low in fruits and vegetables, many more studies are concluding that similar inflammatory and oxidative processes seen in other age related diseases are also playing a key role in the development of AMD. This disease affects the central areas of the retinaand choroid. In return central vision is impaired while peripheral vision is usually not lost. AMD is seen in two different forms, the earlier nonneovascular (dry) type and the more advanced neovascular (wet) type. Each form has its own specific pathology and unique characteristics that set them apart. Fatty, protein deposits called drusens may be the key risk factor in understanding dry AMD pathology, progression, and treatment. Once the more advanced wet AMD is diagnosed, pathology and treatment are targeted around the formation and destruction of abnormal blood vessels, characteristic of the wet AMD eye. The increasing prevalence of AMD has influenced more investigation into what factors can be modulated to prevent the onset or to stop the progression of AMD. This text will discuss the pathology of drusens and the role of inflammationand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The title for this bill is an acronym for the United and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act (USA Patriot Act ). In the years since the passing of the Patriot Act, there has been much controversy and debate regarding the positive and negative advantages, and consequences of this bill. Along with this expansion of surveillance powers is the sneak and peek provision (The USA PATRIOT Act and the American response to terror; panel discussion, 2002). During a discussion panel in 2002, David E. Suchar discussed this provision stating the sneak and peek provision, which allows the government to conduct secret searches of anyone, including citizens, without notifying the person that they have a search warrant and that the search is authorized . Suchar further stated this provision is a very broad standard that probably could be met in a tremendous number of cases and not limited to fighting terrorism in any way, shape, or form (The USA PATRIOT Act and the American response to terror; panel discussion, 2002, para. 18). From a civil liberties perspective, the surveillance expansion provisions within the Patriot Act are troubling when considering the possibility of abuse, and the trouncing of fourth amendment rights. Another troubling consequence of the Patriot Act and the expansion of surveillance powers is the use of profiling. In order to efficiently gather intelligence information for the safety of this country, it would be common sense to develop a target of sorts to better focus the efforts made. Many believe that Muslims in this country have become the unfortunate targets of profiling. The monitoring of those with family and business ties to countries rooted with terrorism is a logical direction for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Letter To Soldier, By Dr. Horgan Dr. Horgan, For this journal, my target audience was anyone that was thinking of returning to school, regardless of their age, or affiliation and wanted it to be as personable as possible. I stated in my essay that my superiors pressed me to attend classes, and even I try to encourage my Soldiers to take college courses. However, the truth is, our encouragement is more of a forcing since we know better, and any decent leader wants them to achieve more than you have in your career. This paper allowed me to share my story of deciding to come back to college and hopefully, each person that is having a difficult time deciding can be at ease that they are not the only ones, which will ultimately change my approach when talking to Soldiers. • 10. Clarence Thomas is just the second African American... Clarence Thomas is just the second African American justice to serve on the Supreme Court. Until the very recent confirmations of both Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Alito, for the past twenty five plus years, Thomas had been the last conservative to be named to the current court, which is the complete opposite of his predecessor Justice Thurgood Marshall. Thomas confirmation hearings have gone down in history as those containing the most drama. His hearings would produce such intense arguments over race and gender. Thomas is one of the most publicly criticized justices in the history of the Supreme Court. The primary reason for that is the uncommon connection between his views and the color of his skin. Many black and white... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thomas believed that blacks were defeating the purpose that they had worked so hard in the past decades to gain. By self segregating blacks were turning away from the real world. And so, rather than separating himself from the Black Student Union and their personal corridor, he made a compromise by deciding to live in the corridor, with his white roommate. (Thomas 117, Foskett 99 102)

Thomas was involved in the political scene at a very early age. After just two short years in Washington, Thomas began working in President Reagan s administration. Thomas was a rarity in Washington. In the Washington Post Thomas was introduced to the public. The article read, He is one of the black people now on center stage in American politics: he is a republican, a long time supporter of Ronald Reagan, opposed to the minimum wage law, rent control, busing and affirmative action. • 11. Analysis Of Initiation By Sylvia Plath In the short story Initiation by Sylvia Plath, Millicent Arnold is a narcissistic teenager undergoing her initiation into the most prestige social group at Lansing High. Despite being aware of the risk at losing her best friend, Tracy, Millicent eagerly seeks the opportunity to be part of a close knit group and as a result, she is mistreated and forced to conform to the group s narrow standards. Plath explains how being part of a social group does not necessarily help one grow individually, but rather assimilates them into what is portrayed as esteemed social status. As Millicent goes through the downgrading initiationprocess, she discovers the value of friendshipand realizes that being associated with a certain group will not help her achieve confidence in her true self. Firstly, the story introduces Millicent at the end of her grueling initiation about to be granted entry into a very prestige social group. She states her case would be different (199) implying that despite getting so far in her initiation, something changes her mind and her ultimate decision to not join the sorority. She is clearly quite proud of herself and is amused at her exclusive position being one of the elect. This sense of pride is further enhanced by her best friend, Tracy s support and encouragement. It is evident how badly Millicent wants to be part of the sorority considering that Millicent had waited a long time for acceptance, longer than most (200). After years of wistfully looking ... The Salem Witch Trials And The Early Civilizations Although the Salem Witch trials are commonly referred to as the start of the witchcraft persecution, witchcraft can be found the early civilizations. Evidence of this is easily found in the societies that had Shamans or Healers of the village, where healing or blessings were done through spiritual connections. Back then, people were more accepting of it in their daily lives because they depended on it, but things were different in Europe during the Middle AGes. With the added influence of Christian faith, and the advancement of technology, many Europeans developed a fear of the unknown, and fear for the forces that they believed were supernatural and influenced by the devil. This terror and fear for the scientifically advanced confusion resulted in the persecution and hunt of all of the unknown, the witches of Europe. Although Witchcraftis mainly associated with The Town of Salem, Witchcraft had a presence and effect in Europe by the ways it changed everyday life for commoners, how it forced the European Government to react to its development, and the way it challenged the Catholic Church. • 20. The Importance Of The Protestant Reformation When I think of the Protestant Reformation, the first thing that comes to mind is the Augsburg Confession. The protestant reformation can be defined as the 16th century religious, political, intellectual and cultural upheaval that splintered Catholic Europe, setting in place the structures and beliefs that would define the continent in the modern era. The augsburg confession is the foremost confession of faith for the Lutheran Church. It was written by Phillip Melanchton and presented to Charles V on June 25, 1530. The main goal of this confession was to restore religious and political unity. There are also many reasons why the augsburg confession ties into this and reveals its importance throughout history. There are 28 articles included in the confession but we are going to focus on the first four: God, the original sin, Christ and justification. The first article that the augsburg confession reveals is God. The church was a major component to the way of life in this era, so they had copious amounts of control over people and the consequences based on betrayal. The churches were based on catholic views and the aspects of their beliefs could be supplemented by leaders that wanted to extend their power and control the church. The goal of the protestant reformation was to change those views that the churches were claiming to be the right way to do things. • 32. Research Paper On Sylvia Plath Sylvia Plath s importance to American history results from the literary distinction of her writing style, as well as her works that show the difficulty of women in the mid twentieth century. Plath s significance comes from her writing styles in which she opened the doors to exploration of feminism to a masculine led society. Plath s life can be explored through her poems and her stories. By aligning SylviaPlath s works to the events throughout her lifetime, we can have a better understanding of Plath s importance. Daddyis probably one of Sylvia Plath s best known poems. It has received many different critiques. These critiques include praise from feminist because of its rage towards male dominance and its attention to and use of Holocaust imagery. The Ecology Of The Deep Sea Species The Ecology of the Deep sea Frilled shark (Chlamydoselachus anguineus) The off shore marine environment changes intensively with the change in the ocean depth. There is three distinctive zones that can be classified the Epipelagic which extends from the sea surface to a depth of 200 meters, the mesopelagic which extends from a depth of 200 meters to a depth of a 1000 meters and then the Deep sea which extends from a depth of a 1000 meters to the sea floor (Castro Huber, 2010). The Deep sea can then be divided into a further three zones (Figure 01) Bathypelagic which extends from a depth of a 1000 meters to 4000 meters, Abyssopelagic which extends from a depth of 4000 meters to 6000 meters and Hadopelagic which extends which extends from a depth of 6000 meters to the sea floor (Castro Huber, 2010). • 34. The Structure And Function Of Endospores And Capsules Work Bacterial endospores are highly resistant structures that can withstand many forms of treatments, including heat and UV (Atrih Foster, 2002), and this characteristic is facilitated by their unique spore structure. Bacterial capsules play an important role in the virulence of bacteria for their host, and enable bacterial cells to evade host defense mechanisms and survive hostile environments. The structure and function of endospores and capsules work specifically to benefit the microbial cell; furthermore, various physiological changes occur in these structures as a result of environmental stress (Sahin, Yong, Driks, Mahadevan, 2012). The specific mechanism of these physiological changes, the types of environmental stresses that cause the changes, and how these correlate with endospore and capsular structure and function are essential to the understanding of this topic. Bacterial endospores are dormant, non reproductive, and sometimes disease causing cell structures that are typically formed in Gram positive bacteriaunder a process called sporulation. Endospores exhibit high resistance to environmental stresses, and these structures are able to resist conditions that are unfavourable to most organisms, enabling bacteria to lie dormant for extended periods of time (hundreds to thousands of years). In addition, endospores are highly durable, as dormant spores return to an actively growing state a process called germination) when nutrients return to their environment. ... Nuclear power should not be dismissed and must be included as a major component of an alternative energy source to replace fossil fuels as it has the greatest potential to be the primary energy source in the future which can work together with other alternative renewable energy sources to combat global warming and to help meet the world s growing energy demand Nuclear energy, which has historically been depicted as a dangerous and evil energy source, has recently seen renewed attention as an alternative form of energy and has been rehabilitated in the eyes of the public after rising concerns regarding global warming and a rise in the demand of energy (World Nuclear Association 2011). Furthermore, the lack of containment barriers is explained by Morris (2000, pp.25), as one reason why western countries would never allow a reactor similar to Chernobyl s to be built in their countries. In addition, Chernobyl was similar to Fukushima in that this tragedy demonstrates the failure of government planners, not an inherent danger of nuclear power (Morris 2000, pp.27). Moore (2006) also argues that the Three Mile Island accident, which occurred 7 years before the one at Chernobyl, was actually a success story , as although the reactor was damaged, it caused no harm to the nearby population because the reactor was well contained with a concrete containment structure. In addition, McCarthy (1995), states that nuclear energy has an exceptionally good safety record and Chernobyl was the only accident with fatalities. A second argument against nuclear power is that it is not a clean energy source since nuclear energy produces radioactive waste that remains dangerous for hundreds of thousands of years and poses a threat to human health that can lead to cancer deaths, and an environmental friendly solution to manage nuclear waste has not been found (Public Citizen, n.d). In addition, Mark Diesendorf (2007), one of the renewable energy proponents in Australia, argues that there are not enough facilities to store high level nuclear waste in the world. A Report On The Attack Automation Strategy http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~sunshine/publications/ccr.pdf 1a) An DDoS(Distributed Denial of Service) Attack consists of several phases firstly the attacker recruits multiple agent machines which will be later on infected with the attack code and further exploited. The infected machines can be used to further recruit new agents. We can outline those phases as Recruit, Exploit, Infect and Use. ATTACKAUTOMATION STRATEGY The attack automation strategy stands for how much of the DDoS attack does an attacker want to make automatic and how much to leave for manual control. The strategy depends on the degree of automation of the phases of the attack. There are three general automation degrees Manual, Automated and Semi Automated which are explained as follows: oManual In that case, the hacker manually recruits machines by scanning remote ones for vulnerabilities, breaks their security mechanisms, installs the prepared attack code and then directs the attack. This type of a DDoS Attack has become really outdated since lately all the recruitment phase has been automated. Weak design consideration in terms of functionality and productivity. oSemi Automated In the Semi Automated DDoS attacks the DDoS network is made of a handler and an agent machine. There is automation present for the Recruit, Exploit and Infect phases. Through the communication between the handler and the agent, the attacker specifies the attack type, the onset, the duration and the victims ID. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Fossil Fuel Resources For Alternative Sources Of Energy Essay Diminishing fossil fuel resources have prompted scientists and researchers to look for alternative sources of energy. Though several alternative sources of energy have been identified, generation of energy using combustion of fuels still remains the dominant source of energy globally [1]. In search for alternative fuels, biofuels have shown promising results to generate useful energy. However, efficient atomization of some high viscosity biofuels to yield maximum useful energy and minimise emissions is an area of research that has not been completely explored so far. As a result, liquid atomization has drawn a lot of attention among researchers over the past few years [2]. Though several different types of atomization processes are used in the industry, twin fluid atomization practices have been quite common and effective. Twin fluid atomization techniques can be broadly classified into Air Blast (AB) atomization, Effervescent Atomization (EA), and Flow Blurring (FB) atomization. Amongst these, FB atomization technique is a very recently developed concept that has demonstrated promising experimental results with high atomization efficiency. Researchers have conducted experiments to understand the process of atomization in a FB injector as well as the spray characteristics [2]. While many think this is best for students education, there are factors that could make it so it doesn t affect their education or it makes matters worse. Most students are great full for their summer break. They schedule family vacations, which are very important, and they are able to keep jobs with little to no conflict in the summer. If that time was to be taken away, that would negatively affect students. There are solutions other than making schoolgo all year round. A fact on year round schooling is that all schools would still take extended breaks after a set amount of dates. The US Department of Education requires 180 days of attending school a year. One idea that a school using year round school might use is the 60 20 plan. This means that students attend school for 60 days and get 20 days off. This also applies for the 45 15 and 80 30 plans. Everyone has heard the optimistic statement, love conquers all, and The Beatles are certain, however idyllic it may be, that all you need is love. Humanity is convinced that love is unique within human emotion, unequalled in its power to both lift the spirit up in throws of ecstasy, and cast it down in utter despair. Loves power has suggested to many that it serves as a link to the divine, and that the feeling instilled in man by love comes from the supernatural, be it God or otherwise. In La Vita NuovaDante Alighierimakes it clear that he believes in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The physical effect that love has on Dante is apparent whenever he is in its presence, that is, through a vision of Love himself or through being close to Beatrice. In their second encounter, nine years later, Beatrice is walking down the street where Dante is standing in fear and trembling. As she passes him, she greets him, of which he says, Such was the virtue of her greeting that I seemed to experience the height of bliss [...] I was filled with such joy that, my senses reeling, I had to withdraw from the sight of others. (5) It is after this encounter that Dante has his first vision of Love manifested, in which love says to him, Ego dominus tuus, or I am your master. Love is holding Beatrice in his arms, and in one hand, Dante s heart. Love bids Beatrice to eat the heart and then, weeping, the two ascend into heaven. It is clear that Dante is consumed, body and mind, by Love, and sees him as a divine force to which he must submit his will. Just as devout men who feel the influence and power of God within them give up their will and lives to the service of their Lord, so Dante gives himself to Love. So strong is his devotion that his thoughts are entirely consumed by Beatrice. The strain of such a state weighs heavily on Dante, such that his appearance reflects his turmoil and causes his friends to grow concerned. About inquiries into the cause of his pain, Dante says, in obedience to Love s will, [...] I replied that it was Love who had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 54. Communicative Language Teaching ( Clt ) Approach The field of second language learning has undergone, in the past few decades, many changes. Nonetheless, from a variety of methods that have come and gone, one has been adopted as pioneer, which is the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) approach. Nowadays, in fact, Communicative Language Teaching is one of the most common teaching methods adopted by teachers of second and foreign languages all over the world. Its origin can be found in the late 1960s early 1970s in the British academic system, which was undergoing a serious of changes that reflected, none other than, the changes that were occurring in society. The aim of this paper is to give an overview of what Communicative Language Teachingis, what are its main distinguishing and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand, American linguists, based on Chomsky s language acquisition theory and concept of linguistic competence, started rejecting the Oral Approach. This was the contingent cause for a shift in Britain s language teaching method, SLT. In fact, also Britain s linguists began questioning SLT s practical and theoretical foundations. Therefore, both Chomsky s studies as well as the criticality British linguists had towards the more traditional methodologies led to the advent of the Communicative Language Teaching approach. This approach was very advanced for the time. It revolutionised the strategies of language learning and also changed the role of the language teachers as well as the language learners. In contrast with some of the methodologies previously adopted, its main goal is to teach the scholars the ability to communicate. Thereby, Communicative Language Teaching bases itself upon the concept of language competence, which is considered the actual basis of proficiency in a language. Hence, teaching activities involve students in real life communicative situations in which the communicative task is of more importance than the grammatical accuracy. Other exercises such as games, songs, problem solving and role plays also are used in classrooms. It must be said that each of these activities are sowed on the learners needs, therefore, if the class ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. It Has Become Apparent That Throughout History Societies It has become apparent that throughout history societies have formed as a means of improving efficiency and quality of life. In that pursuit, ideology has become the main topic of discussion. The long lasting argument of which societal structure and set of societal norms will reap the most benefits continues today, specifically in the United States. However, it has not been until recently that Marxists methods of analysis have become a significant source of discussion within the country. As the exploration into Marxist ideologycontinues, it becomes apparent that the concepts themselves also become more and more normalized within American culture. The idea of Marxism has become widely accepted; enough so as to make it into mainstream... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As displayed in the show, without these factors the fate of, not only the individual but, the group is at stake. In this zombie infested world, the zombies themselves can be seen as a metaphor for the Marxist criticism of capitalism. In a similar manner to that of which capitalism seeks profit for individual s own sake, these zombies desperately pursue and starve for human flesh. The events that occur in The Walking Dead can help illustrate the principles that Karl Marxand Marxism founded at the time. Much like it is for the characters in the show, Marxism s ultimate priority is simply to survive. However, much like the disease infesting the city of Atlanta, capitalism withholds a desire to expand. It bases itself on risk, causing unnecessary obstacles for people to reach their end goal, which should be to sustain themselves. A major point made by Karl Marx seemed to be the abandonment of private property. For Rick s surviving group the implementation of this concept is a must. In their zombie filled world it is important that the survivors keep on the move and detach themselves from any useless items. The group never settles, always residing in temporary homes like farmhouses, camps, shops, and prisons; knowing that claiming private property could be a liability or futile. Within the Communist Manifesto, Marx also encourages the abandonment of the family ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nursing Professional Portfolios Portfolios have been used to showcase the work of artists, fashion designers, models, photographers and architects, spanning several decades (M.Williams., K.Jordan., 2007) These career portfolios have been adopted in to the nursing profession where they serve as an augmentation but not a replacement of their curriculum vitae (Lettus, 2001). They have not only transcended beyond the traditional listing of basic information such as relevant past work experiences and positions held, educational institutions attended and achievements but provide additional information that resumes would have presented (M.J. Jone., 2007). A professional portfoliois a thoughtfully prepared and organised compilation of different types of professional information and evidence that illustrate an individual s record of continuing professional development activities, skills, experiences, knowledge, competencies, professional achievements and goals as well as their level of expertise that one has attained as a result of their experiences. • 57. The Importance Of The Arts At School Importance of the Arts in School People often view artistic activities as a leisure activity, so though they may agree it is a nice thing to have, they may not think it is essential to a person s life. It is the same for schools, with tight budgets, art is usually the first subject cut from a student s learning experience because it is not viewed as a priority. However, with all of the academic benefits students can gain from being involved in any type of art subject, it is important that schools allow students an easy access to art. By making art programs more prominent, schools would be offering students a chance to improve academic performance, increase happiness, and open up minds. Though art is mostly viewed as a hobby, it benefits children academically. One way art helps academic performance is by strengthening students brains. The principal of Lyons Elementary School explained the Opening Minds through Art program (OMA) helped teach children concepts through art that would later help them learn more in different subjects (Smith). Art can improve students understanding of learning concepts, which will help them in different subjects in the future. artistic activities engage senses and make neural connections in the brain. The more neural pathways created and the stronger the become, the easier it becomes for the brain to take in new information. With a stronger brain and mental capacity, students performance in school with improve. Academically, art is beneficial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
