Comparing Sweat And The Gilded Six Bits
Navin Shiwgobin CRN 1337 Professor Chance March 4, 2016 Compare and Contrasting Sweat
and The Gilded Six Bits In the short stories, Sweat and The Gilded Six bit , by Zora Neale
Hurston, both take place in her hometown of Eatonville, Florida, during the early 1900s.
Eatonville was one of the first towns founded by African Americans in the US. Because they are
set in the same town, the stories characters speak in a broken, English dialect of the South, to
reflect the era and location in which they lived. These stories depict identical circumstances with
different consequences. They illustrate the betrayal of adultery within both of the marriages of
Sykes and Delia, from Sweat , and Missy May and Joe from The Gilded Six Bits . Furthermore,...

In Sweat , Delia is absolutely terrified by the idea of snakes. Sykes knows this but that doesn t
stop him from antagonizing her with the thought. He uses a bullwhip to scare her, as it
resembles a snake. He puts it over her shoulder while she is doing work, and she reacts terrified,
in which greatly pleases Sykes. Sykes, what you throw dat whip on me like dat? You know it
would skeer me looks just like a snake, an you knows how skeered Ah is of snakes. (Hurston 1)
Sykes still isn t finished with his tormenting, as he brings home a rattlesnake. This is where
irony strikes, as the same snake he used to torment Delia bites him and inevitably kills him. In
The Gilded Six Bits , the theme of irony is present as well. With Joe s constant praise of
Slemmons, this ironically contributed to Missy s betrayal as he constantly peaked her interest
about him. Joe and Missy May dont realize that they possess something far more valuable than
gold. They have each other s love, which proves to be a very strong thing nonetheless. Missy
May almost throws this away for a gold coin, to which she finds out that it is just a gold plated
half dollar. She took it into her hands trembling and saw that it was no gold piece. It was a gilded
half dollar. (Hurston 734) This experience serves as a precious lesson to them both: all that glitters

Racial Populations In San Diego
Today, no single ethnic or racial group makes up a majority of San Diego s population. Non
Hispanic or Latino whites comprise 45.1% of the population (U.S. Census Bureau 2014), and
have decreased by 2.8% between 2000 and 2010 ( San Diego City Redistricting ). Hispanics or

time period. This demographic is expected to surpass the number of whites by 2050 (Keats 2013).
Blacks or African Americans comprise 6.7% (U.S. Census Bureau 2014), and about 11,500 Blacks

The Effect of Education on Economic Growth
The Effect of Education on Economic Growth
Abstract
Education is one of the primary factors of development. Countries can t achieve economic
development without investment in human capital. Vocational training and higher education equip
a worker to perform certain jobs or functions .It improves the quality of their lives and leads to
social benefits to individuals and society like improving income distribution. Education increase
people s productivity and creativity and promotes entrepreneurship and technological advances.
Technological progress reflects the growth of human knowledge.

This function is not accurate because it doesn t take into account the quality or type of education an
individual has. Human capital is also an important variable in the variation wage function which is
hard to measure too. Human capital includes some feature such as education, work experience, and
health. To estimate human capital, scholars Suggested quantitative measures of quality include
costs per student, library expenditures, number of earned doctorates among Faculty and
administrators, and student faculty ratios. However, this estimation of human capital is not
accurate too. Some scholars argue pupil teacher ratio is alternative measure of resources invested in
education which measure the quantity of education but not the quality. Further more, some research
didn t use the system approach (input, throughputs, and output.) which made some scholar to
believe it underestimate the effect of education spending by failing to observe the possible indirect
effect on economic growth. All these inaccurate measures and disagreements make it difficult to
compare the findings of empirical studies to determine how strong the effect of investment in
human capital to promote growth rates of the economy, but macroeconomists in many research
stressed the importance of education to promote growth.
Theory and previous research

Reflection On The Studyament Of The Old Testament
This class has meant much to me, it has given me many things that I will not only carry with me
throughout the rest of my life but also throughout the rest of my ministry. I will not only have the
ability to use the knowledge gained in this class to enrich my own life and Biblical knowledge but
also be able to enrich others lives and lead them to better understanding and application of Biblical
principles relating to the Old Testament. One thing that I took away from this class is that the Old
Testament is more relevant in our lives than we often give it credit for, Job for example, being
able to dive more deeply into his story we are able to see themes and emotions that deeply effect
the ways in which we ourselves need to know and understand questions such as Is God as just
God, or is God unjust? We often can unknowingly in modern times ask the same questions and
have the same debate with other believers without ever actually stopping to realize the similarity
and actual Biblical answers to such questions within the realm of the Old Testament. Furthermore,
principles like understanding origins and original meaning of words of the Old Testament can play
similarly into our lives and even ministry in the sense of fully being able to understand the true
context and even meaning of scripture and passages of scripture at times. An example of this is in
knowing that (for instance) Judges within the Old Testament were not simply like the modern day
judge that we know today,

Reading Access And The Teacher Salary Gap
The substratum of the society is predicated on inculcation since it brings economic and convivial
prosperity. Being educated enhances an individual to live a reverent life in the society. This is
because education offers a setting in which culture and values of a society are developed. In this
generation, inculcation in modern society provides a forum where the society examines its issues
and identifies solutions. The advancement of a society both economically and convivially is by
gaining edification which consequently enables them to run a modern society.getting access to
educationhas always been difficult and beneficial to people who are willing to learn. USA is a
powerful country and her advantages on education are limitless for teacher and students but
Cameroon has less advantages and less teachers.USA and Cameroon with education system are
very different. i will compare the difference between teachers skills, book access and the teacher
salary gap between both countries. Cameroon is a good country and has a good education
system. however, she has a lot to learn from the USA in terms of teaching skills, book access
and teacher salary gap. The role of the teacher in the educational system set up is very
consequential. It is a two way process like student and skills, or maybe two sides of the same
coin. It is beyond argument that good education is a backbone of the society and country system.

The Influence of Organizational Culture on Organizational...
Rizescu, M. (2011). Orgainzational Culture Influences on the Organization s Functionality. Revista
Academie ForTelor Terestre. 1( 61): 75 82. Globalization has brought the world closer in
communication, economics, politics, and especially business. The Internet and technological
improvements have allowed instantaneous communication almost anywhere, and even poor women
in India are using Smartphones to manage their banking portfolios. The idea of globalism continues
to break down cultural barriers. As this continues it will be essential for organizations to not only
understand, but embrace cultural differences and styles (Trebing and Estabrooks, 2005). Clearly,
the changing demands of global stakeholders require new ways of approaching divergent customer
bases. There are differences in style, skill, education and attitude in every organization now
accentuated when we think of the multi national organization. Correctly managed, this diversity can
be a huge bonus to the organization. Organizations are far more effective once they understand and
use diversity within their strategic and tactical planning process. Also, the new paradigm for global
management includes creating and maintaining a diverse work environment in which cultural
diversity is encourage and celebrated, rather than simply acknowledged (We need to identify and
understand how our differences impact our relationships with other employees and customers. We

Substance Abuse And Its Effects
SUBSTANCE ABUSE Researchers state that almost half of individuals diagnosed with
schizophrenia in the United States also self medicate with alcohol and other drugs (Elements
Behavioral Health, 2014). This is suggested due to individuals attempting to lessen the symptoms
of their disorder. As discussed previously symptoms can include hearing and seeing things that
others don t hear or see, problems falling asleep or staying asleep and problems with concentration
and memory. In an effort to lessen these symptoms alcohol and other drugs are used to induce sleep
(NIMH, 2014). Research suggests that approximately fifty percent of individuals diagnosed with
schizophreniahave a co occurring substance abuse disorder. The most common used are alcohol,
marijuana and tobacco (Green, Drake, Brunette Noordsy, 2007) (Dube, 2012). In contrast to what
individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia think they may be achieving by using alcohol and other
drugs, research states that substance use may actually modify the dysfunction in the brain reward
center by increasing the symptoms (Green et.al, 2007). Self medicating with alcohol and other
drugs can often lead to disruptions in gaining access to treatment. Pharmacological treatment is seen
as one of the most effective ways to assist with symptom reduction, and using alcohol and other
drugs often interfere (MHA, n.d). Some research studies have proposed that when an individual
consumes any sort of mood altering substance, such as alcohol

African American Stereotypes in the Media

African American Stereotypes in the Media
When I first heard someone say, All African American people are Ghetto, I was very offended that
someone would make this type of assumption about my culture, and I thought how ignorant this
person must be; but then I stopped and wondered why other people would think this about us. I
asked her why she would say something like this, and she instantly listed shows like Tosh.O and
Chelsea Lately, which highlight my culture in a negative view. It was clear to me that she had
made up her mind about black people through watching the media and seeing African Americans
fulfill that stereotype in person. This led me to question: Where exactly do these stereotypes come
from? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The way entertainment in the media portrays us has greatly affected how others identify us.
Movies and shows like; Madea s family Reunion, Bringing down the House, Love and Hip Hop,
and Basketball Wives all portray us in a degrading way. People sometimes find it comical of
course, but the fact that it is comical does not justify it being debasing. This image of us has
evolved from things in the media, and its power to shape people s idea of us. We as a race must
stop living up to our stereotypes. As soon as we take action in not succumbing to our own
stereotype, people will not think we are Ghetto or any other undignified term they think of us;
therefore in the media we won t be perceived in that way. As Colin Powell once said, Fit no
stereotypes. Don t chase the latest management fads. The situation dictates which approach best
accomplishes the team s mission. Although African Americanstereotyping is prevalent in the media
now because of its entertaining quality; it perpetuates a cycle of harmful stereotypes. As long as
this cycle continues, our culture will always be illustrated negatively.

Concept cars not only contribute to the development of new models of cars, they have also created

number of car manufacturers and brands such as Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Dodge,
Chevrolet, and Peugeot.
The need to reach many customers as possible motivated the development of concept car
photography. This is because many customers across the globe are unable to attend the motor
shows where concept cars are normally displayed. Therefore, good, quality pictures of concept
cars need to be taken for publishing in newspapers, magazines, and websites where customers can
easily access them. The more customers a car manufacturer is able to reach, the better idea it is

Why Did Macduff Destroy Macbeth
In Macbeth, Act 4: 2, we can see that Macbeth has reached a point in his life where he will do
anything and kill anyone to ensure his stature in the kingdom is protected. We analyzed this when
he first murdered King Duncan and then had Banquo, his best friend, assassinated. With his
constant homicides come sleepless nights and hallucinations of ghosts. Eventually, his wife goes
crazy because of her guilty conscience of provoking her husband into committing the murders, and
dies right before the battle between Macbethand Macduff occurs. One chief motive behind
Macduff s purpose to destroy Macbeth is what act 4: 2 is about. Macbeth has Macduff s family,

The Effects Of Bilingualism On The Executive Function And...
Introduction By the emerge of globalization, being a bilingual is no longer a novelty experience
any more. It is quiet normal in nowadays that people encounter bilinguals in their daily bases. There
is a common sense that bilinguals should have certain abilities prior to monolinguals. Bialystok
(2001) suggested that the constant managing 2 competing languages enhance the executive
function . Moreover, her another study(Bialystok, 2004) indicated that bilingual participants also
responded more rapidly to conditions that placed greater demands on working memory. In all cases
the bilingual advantage was greater for older participants. These two findings imply that
bilingualism have beneficial effects on the executive function and working memory.Besides the
excellent executive function ability and the great capability of working memory, researchers also
found out that bilinguals have advantages on a particular working memory. The study of Luo et.al
(2013) demonstrated that bilinguals outperforms the monolingual participants in spatial working
memory. It showed that bilinguals are superior to monolinguals in some aspects, which can provide
a exact picture how bilingualism facilitates people so that it may motivate people to start acquiring
a new language. For my own curious, I want to know that if bilinguals advantage can persist across
different experimental designs. In addition, it should be interesting to test the correlation of

I Chose The Constellation Of Pisces
I chose the constellation of Pisces. This is because it is my Zodiac sign and I wanted to learn more
about it. The Pisces constellation is found in the Northern Hemisphere and was introduced in the
2nd Century by Ptolemy, a Greek astronomer. It is usually portrayed as two fish, connected at the
tails by string, swimming in opposite directions.
The myth surrounding the Pisces constellation can be found in Greek mythology. According to the
myth, the constellation can be associated to the goddess Aphrodite and her son Eros. One version
of the story said that they themselves transformed while fleeing from Typhon. Another story would
say that two fish, which was placed in the sky, were the ones that carried Aphrodite and Eros away
from harms way.
If I were to create a myth about the constellation, I would do it with different circumstances. Ares
has always been an embodiment of everything male. Physically, he was perfect with a statuesque
physique, a blinding smile that would make your heart melt, sea blue eyes that seemed to have
the ability to pierce into your soul and dig up your very essence. He also had a double charm to
him, one side would reveal him to be a golden boy, very heroic and kind, yet he always had a
hidden twinkle in his eye, hinting that beneath all that charisma, he was also bad ass. All the girls
flocked to him. All except one. Aphrodite.
Aphrodite overflowed with love and beauty. How could she not? She was the goddess of Love and
Beauty after all. She

The Budget Deficit For Fiscal Year
Pros Cons As said plenty of times throughout this semester, you are guaranteed two things in life
and that is death and to pay taxes. Yes, taxes, taxes help fund our schools, build/fix roads, social
security, Medicare, Medicaid, military/security defense, safety net programs, and of course the
interest on our national debt. The federal government must make regular interest payments on all
the money borrowed from other countries. Budget deficits, budget surplus, national debt, deficit
spending all have pros and cons.
The federal government collects fees, taxes and certain revenues every year while spending in other

this happens; the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Government income fell from $2.568 trillion in fiscal year 2007 to $2.1 trillion in fiscal year 2009
and didn t recover until 2013. The attacks on 9/11 hurt the recession too; it drove military
spending to a record of $671 billion dollars in 2007.
The US government borrows money from two sources, the public and itself to fill in these budget
deficits. The government borrows money from the public by issuing treasury bills, notes, and
bonds. The treasury bills are for short term borrowing. About 60% of the held American debt
belongs to Americans, foreign lenders hold the other 40%, China is the biggest party that holds
about $800 billion in treasures, and Japan is right behind them at $725 billion.
A budget deficit isn t always bad, sustained deficits have some risks with them, but small deficits
may have some benefits. Borrowing in order to invest in infrastructure, education, or similar
projects to improve economic growth over the long term. The benefits that accrue from the
investments will pay more than just the interest incurred on the debt, it s similar to when an
entrepreneur borrows to start a new business or a student takes out loans to pay for education.
These would be good borrowed funds, and help the borrower in the long term. Some cons to
running budget deficits would be borrowing money in bad ways, for example, it can become risky
as interest payments grow and take up large shares of your expenses,

The Cross And The Lynching Tree By James Cone
Decades have passed since the end of the American Civil War, a war in which hundreds of
thousands of individuals died defending what each considered to be just. One of the bloodiest wars
in human history, the repercussions of the Civil War did not finish when the South lost the war and
African American slaves gained their liberty. Continual tension existed between white and black
citizens after the South lost the right to possess slaves. The transition was especially hard to handle
by white citizens who, for decades, failed to recognize the human dignity of their fellow black
citizens.
There are many narratives and historical texts that illustrate the racial tension prevalent especially in
the South of the United States. One of such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cone s main point in his book is the relationship between the lynching of thousands of African
Americans and Jesus death by the cross. He argues that lynching of black citizens became the
American way of crucifixion of black people. In his book, Cone highlights the suffering of
thousands of black citizens from hatred from a Christian perspective. Analyzing history with a
metaphor little used before, Cone identifies the direct relationship between the suffering of African
Americans and the Calvary of Jesus Christ.
There exist, in fact, certain commonalities between lynching in America and Roman crucifixion.

This basically gets rid of the middleman, which then saves money. An automated distribution
center will further increase the efficiency of Wal Mart s value chain. Wal Mart also is sure to
keep labor costs to a minimum. By making sure the costs of their value chain are low, Wal Mart
is able to be a low cost industry leader. Furthermore, another element apparent in the low cost
strategy of Wal Mart is the cost conscious corporate culture. The company was started by a man
named Sam Walton who developed the company to have every day low prices . He is also
known for saying if we work together, we ll lower the cost of living for everyone . Every since
Sam Walton started this company, the entire company has strived to be a low cost leader. Various
leaders of Wal Mart have never sought to change the philosophy the company was built on, but

that has garnered success. Low cost strategies are unable to work on products that are uncommon

Why Is Children Advertising Wrong
I Personally believe that Children Advertising is wrong. When children see ad s on Television
they think that it is okay to be unhealty. They Think it is okay to be obese and to always continue
to eat unhealthy. I honestly would ban Children Advertising. I belive Children Adevertising
should be Ban. I think it should be ban because it can cause the child become a serious Impulse
buyer. Also i do think that advertisment to children is wrong because it does show children that
happiness can be bought. Now the Ad on Televison that just showed a group of kids at

to children aswell as being able to play in the playing area. I also belive that Advertisers

During this week s draft our topic was marginalization. Marginalization is to put someone into a

In today s draft I decided to write about racial slurs. My goal for this piece was to bring some
awareness to the topic and debate about the n word.My intended heartbeat was heart ache (slow and
painful). Today I tried to use the claim data warrant method to organize my writing. I don t think I

Environmentalist: the Official Endorsers of Science and the Environment
I chose to analyze an online community that can sometimes be referred to with negative
connotation. As an environmentalist, criticism often stems from the idea that you are a tree hugger
or liberal when in reality your membership simply implies you care for the well being of the planet
and wish to sustain the earth for future generations. Environmentalist acknowledge that there are
issues with the ways society chooses to interact with their environment and believe it is crucial to
protect ecologically important lands, bodies of water and nature as a whole. As homo sapiens

each of his videos which is Stay Strong, Stay Beautiful, Stay You. I find this quote empowering
because it means that you should never let other people who you are, which is everything that
Jeydon Wale stands for. In his Videos Jeydon Wale expresses the importance of being yourself,
having self confidence, and loving yourself. I admire his values because around my age a lot of
people start to feel as if they are not worth anything, that no one understands how they feel, or
that they should just abide by society s standards; and Jeydon is here saying that you should be

Essay The Red Tent by Diamant
The Red Tent by Diamant
In Diamant s powerful novel The Red Tent the ever silent Dinah from the 34th chapter of Gensis
is finally given her own voice, and the story she tells is a much different one than expected. With
the guiding hands of her four mothers , Leah, Rachel, Zilpah, and Bilhah, all the wives of Jacob, we
grow with Dinah from her childhood in Mesoptamia through puberty, where she is then entered into
the red tent , and well off into her adulthood from Cannan to Egypt. Throughout her journey we
learn how the red tent is constantly looked upon for encouragement, solace, and comfort. It is where
women go once a month during menstration, where they have their babies, were they dwell in
illness and most importantly, where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This act is translated into todays concept of rape, but as the narrative continues we see how
Shechem tries to justify his manner by claiming he fell victim to love. Being drawn to Dinah,
daughter of Jacob, and in love with the maiden, he spoke to the maiden tenderly (Genesis 34:3).
This, however, is not admissible in the eyes of Israel s men. Shechem s behavior is considered
an outrage in Israel...a thing not to be done , and therefore, hinders Shechem s aspiration of
marriage to her (Genesis 34:7). One of the ways he is able to seek mercy is by offering Dinah s
brothers and father a high bride price. This offering along with a promise for all men to be
circumcised in accordance with God s command to their grandfather Abraham: This is my
covenant between Me and you and your offspring to follow which you shall keep: every male
among you shall be circumcised, is a fitting plea to their ears and Dinah is wed off (Genesis
17:10). But what about Dinah s ears? Who is to say that she wants to marry this man who defiled
her? What is her view on it all?
Ironically, there is no mention of Dinah s feelings or thoughts throughout Genesis 34. All the
attention focuses not on Dinah, but the men around her. The one who is affected the most
throughout this whole ordeal is somehow left in the shadow. There even is no reference to how
she succumbs to being raped, and later deceived by her own blood.

Psychosocial Autobiography
Autobiography I was born on February 2, 1995. My parents were young when they had me, my
mom was 20 and my dad was 23. I was not breast fed because my mother went back to work very
soon after I was born. Though I had a fairly normal upbringing, my parents worked quite a bit.
Three days a week I would go to my grandmother s house while my parents were working. When I
got older I went to preschool two days a week. After entering kindergarten I started to have
trouble making friends. I was painfully shy and did not know how to make friends. After a few
weeks I finally made a few friends and throughout elementary school I had several different
groups of friends. Most of which I do not talk to anymore. I had issues with sucking my thumb
and scratching my nose until I was seven when I was finally able to break free of the habit
When I was eight years old my mother had a nervous breakdown and was subsequently
diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder. She had always been hard on me but I never
understood why until I got older. While my mother was dealing with her issues I became

A major part of an average Aztecman or woman entertaining area would be the game Tlachlli.
This game would be played, and the results would affect how the future could be. They would
play in a semi big stadium where a rubber ball would be hit with the Aztec players, as they would
try to get it through a hole up on a wall. Goals were extremely rare, but if you did score, you
would extremely famous throughout the empire. (Steele, 20 amp;21.) Priests said that the gods
would play Tlachilli, the sky would be their court, and the sun would be their ball. The results of a
game would tell the priest what would happen in the future. (Steele, 21 amp;25.)
I found many interesting facts during this study, and the most interesting fact, which I found was
one of the Aztecs ancient beliefs. The Aztecs said that where they would find an eagle on a cactus
with a snake in its mouth, which is where they would build their city. (Stuart, 69.) They found a
snake on a cactus with a eagle in its mouth and built their city on it. The city was named Tenochit.
This tremendous city was their home, and in the center they had Pyramids where they would make
their sacrifices for their gods. This city is now what makes the heart of the huge capital of Mexico,
Mexico City. And the emblem in which the Aztecs had pictured of an eagle on a cactus with a
snake in its mouth can now be found on the flag of Mexico.

Hiv And Treatment Adherence By Bobbi Marie Pollard
HIV and Treatment Adherence
Bobbi Marie Pollard
Loyola University Chicago School of Social Work Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a
chronic illness, however, for those with access to health care and treatment, it is a very manageable
condition. Although it is no longer considered a death sentence in developed countries, it is still a
highly stigmatized illness. The public may no longer perceive HIV as the plague it once was, yet
there has been no decline in the number of new infections per year in the past decade in the United
States (Catalan et al., 2000). Today, people are living longer with HIV due to the development of
combination antiretroviral drug therapies (ART). ART has provided significant progress in treatment
(Linsk et al., 2002). Treatment accessibility and medication adherence are crucial in order to
continue manage the disease on both the individual and public level.
Overview of HIV/AIDS
HIV and AIDS are sometimes used interchangeably, although there is a significant difference, and
some HIV positive individuals will never develop Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
Testing HIV positive means there are antibodies present in the system. HIV is classified into two
phases: symptomatic and asymptomatic. Individuals show signs of a compromised immune system
during the symptomatic phase, although with treatment advances, many are living
asymptomatically. The progress of the illness can often be evaluated by looking at one s CD4 and

Between The Gnostic Christology And Trinity Of The...
As shown below, the similarities between the Gnostic Christology and Trinity of the Valentinians
and the orthodox Trinitarians are striking. The Valentinians were teaching a Christology very
similar to the Christology of the Trinity Doctrine expressed in the Athanasian Creed about 350
before the proclamation of the Athanasian Creed. Valentinus (c.100 c.160) was a teacher in Rome,
who almost became Pope. Before coming to Rome in about 140, he had studied in Egypt. About
160, he died in Cyprus. He claimed to have received his ideas from Theodas, a disciple of Paul.
Valentinianism survived into the fifth century. Valentinus teachings merged Christianity with Greek
and Oriental speculation. He developed a metaphysical system that incorporated Christianity with
paganism and Greek philosophy, primarily Platonism. His theology fluctuated between Gnosticism,
esotericism, and orthodoxy Christianity of his time. Valentinus believed that Christ s flesh was
spiritual. Although Jesusate and drank, he did not defecate. Because Jesus body received heavenly
substance, it only appeared to need food. (This idea of Jesus conflicts with the New Treatment:
Jesus was like his brethren in all things [Heb. 2:17]. Like the Valentinians, the Trinitarians also have
a Jesus who is incompatible with the New Testament Jesus.) Fundamental to the Valentinian
Christology is Christ s deity and preexistence. Furthermore, Christ is a special emanation of God
and embodies all the powers of God. They

Russian Ideology
Ideologies made a significant amount of contribution to the making of modern Russia. At the
beginning of 1856, Russia was an autocratic country ruled by the Tsar, but when this ruling
family was challenged they took preventative means to try to preserve their autocratic powers.
Alexander II made political, social and economic reforms to try to appease the people to stay in
power; one of the policies being the creation of the Zemstva. Nicholas II also created the Duma to
preserve his power and keep autocracy; however the lack of real provision for the desires of the
people and the rigidness of autocracy like the reinstatement of the fundamental laws 1906 led to its
demise. The fall of autocracy led to democracy, unfortunately for the government there... Show

The literary elements that i will be talking about are, enjambment, the theme of death and elision.
Firstly enjambment is seen more than once throughout the duration of the poem. Dickinson
says, Heavenly Hurt, it gives us/We can find no scar, (Dickinson, 5 6) during that part of the
poem she uses enjambment to create a dramatic pause, to show that it is not an actual physical
scar, but a mental one caused by, Heavenly Hurt . As with The Village Blacksmith, in A certain
Slant of Light there us a common theme of death throughout both. This theme is seen when
Dickinson says, When it goes, tis like the Distance/On the look of Death Dissimilar to the theme
within The Village Blacksmith, the message of the theme of death is different because of using
death as an object rather than a process that someone undergoes. Rather than using death as
something that the blacksmith dealt with, A certain Slant of Light personifies death as an entity
that is being described as having a distant look. Lastly, elision is the final literary technique i will
be talking about. The quote i will be using to demonstrate the use of elision says, Tis the seal
Despair (Dickinson, 10) In this quote, the use of the word Tis shows the use of elision by
shortening and combining the words it and is . I think the reason that Dickinson did this is
because the use of shortened words was more common in the time period when it was written. I
believe that Emily Dickinson s use of literary devices was able to deliver different messages, and
things to think about while reading this

Questions and Answers on A Career as an Engineer
Please, briefly tell me about yourself and your educational background.
I am an ambitious and well driven woman who believes in herself. After finishing my high school l
went to Vaal university of Technology for my diploma, University of Pretoria for my degree in
engineering, and then Sorbonne University for my masters in engineering.
What first draw you to study engineering?
It has always been a passion in my life to work with electricity and electronic devices. When l was
young l used to fix and repair adapters, radios and TVs. Being accepted to the engineering faculty
was just a continuation of the dream that l begun when l was young.
Which year of study was the most challenging, and why?
Probably, my first year was horrible because l was less prepared for university studies. I missed
most classes; fell behind in class, and l was very uncertain about whether l was following the right
career path.
What do you enjoy least or most about engineering?
I hate those long hours figuring out a solution to a problem that seems impossible to decode.
Why should one become an engineer?
Engineering is a challenging, high paying career. If you have up to date engineering skills, jobs are
abundant. Engineering jobs often come with flexible hours, location flexibility, and the hard skills
you learn translate easily to new positions
What are some reasons one should not become an engineer?
In my opinion, you should never take a job simply

Herbert Hoover s The Great Depression
Herbert Hoover got many things wrong about the great economic calamity that destroyed his
presidency and his historical reputation, but he got one thing right. Much legend to the contrary, the
Great Depression was not entirely, perhaps not even principally, made in America. The primary
cause of the Great Depression, was the war of 1914 1918. Though economists and historians
continue to this day to debate the proximate causes of the Great Depression, there can be little
doubt that the deepest roots of the crisis lay in the several chronic infirmities that afflicted the post
World War I international economic order and touched every country on the planet. The fighting
had taken a cruel toll on key economies like those of Britain, France, and Germany, the core
societies of the advanced industrialized world. The lingering distortions in trade, capital flows, and
exchange rates occasioned by the heedlessly punitive Treaty of Versailles, as the economist John
Maynard Keynes observed at the time, managed to perpetuate in peacetime the economic
disruptions that had brought so much hardship in wartime. What was more, memories of the war s
bitter fighting and vengeful conclusion rendered the post war international atmosphere toxic,
poisoning the wells of traditional diplomacy and dooming any efforts at concerted multi lateral
action to deal with the gathering crisis. To those abundant physical and institutional ills might be
added the psychological maladies of

It is not likely for Swyer Syndrome to be inherited. It can be from non genetic causes or from new
mutations in a gene during the formation of reproductive cells or in the early stages of embryonic
development. (2012). Mutations in the SRY gene have been identified in approximately 15 percent
of individuals with Swyer syndrome. (2016). This gene is located on the Y chromosome, it provides
the instructions for making the sex determining region Y protein. SRY mutation prevents the
production of the sex determining region Y protein or it can result in a non functioning protein. If
the fetus cells do no produce a functioning sex determining region Y protein then they will not
develop testes but will develop a uterus and fallopian tubes instead, even though they have a male

Manatees Research Paper
Also known as the sea cow, the manatee has earned the name Gentle Giants of the Sea (Prince
Groff 13). Manatees are large marine animals that breathe air. Although they may look like boulders,
these blocks of blubber are graceful swimmers. The manatee s usual diet, behavioral patterns,
uncommon habitat, and hair raising predators make manatees peculiar animals of the ocean.
This species has a typical diet. The manatee usually eats wet vegetation, making them primarily
herbivores. Manatees have occasionally been seen to eat foods other than plants. Antillean
manatees have been known to eat fish from nets and West African manatees have been to eat clams
(Reynolds and Odell, 1991). Manatees also feed on fallen acorns on surface and ... Show more

This species is classified as a semisocial animal, which means that they are solitary animals while
nursing their young, but casually gather into herds. Manatees are non aggressive, non territorial
herbivores that spend most of their time feeding (6 8 hours per day) and resting (2 12 hours per
day). The remainder of their day is spent travelling, investigating objects, and socializing by
interacting with other manatees (Seaworld). While they are resting, they are either at the surface of
the water or at the bottom of the seabed. Occasionally, manatees can be seen participating in group
activities, including follow the leader and body surfing. The sirenia is a social and solitary animal.
The sirenia s habitat is located in the warm coastal waters. In fact, manatees cannot live in water
colder than 68℉. They can be found where there is an abundance of seagrass or vegetation.
This species can live in either freshwater or saltwater and are usually by boating docks. They
migrate to near the equator in the colder months. During the summer months, they travel as far
north as Massachusetts and as far west as Louisiana and Texas. Manatees are seen in coastal

[Establishment Clause] [Free Exercise Clause] (Congress shall make no law respecting an
establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof) Organized religion across the
country collectively speaks; we reserve the right to refuse to participate in any wedding or union
of same sex couples. All religious citizens across the country follow the teachings of their
respective churches and synagogues and refuse to take part in those unions as well. The Christian
cake maker, the Baptist Caterer, the Church going Photographer and the Jewish Organizer all claim
the right not to participate in events that are clearly same sex. This refusal being based on their

Open By Andre Agassi Essay
Open by Andre Agassi
Through the eyes of an eight year old, Andre Agassi shares his private life and background of
becoming a world famous tennis player, in his autobiography Open from 2009. Already from the
beginning Andre Agassi narrates about the family s more or less tense relationship to each other
and how the tennis player s career is affected of his social heritage. This is the three main themes
Andre Agassi gets around in his story about his early life.
First, Andre Agassi tells about the grandmother s relationship with the father, the mother and
himself. There is a continuously negative and tense tone, and it is easy that the narrator does not
like his father s mother. He even says, I m only eight, but I ll drive her to the airport myself...

SГёren Kierkegaard s father was a dark and tough man, who made SГёren Kierkegaard notice the
darker sides of life. It inspired him to create the philosophy he had. This is a bit like Andre Agassi s
father who also is a part of the reason why Andre Agassi ends up being a famous tennis player.
His father is very negative and pressures Andre Agassi a lot. SГёren Kierkegaard s father is just
affecting SГёren Kierkegaard by his own way of seeing life, not by pressure. Also the two famous
males have two more passive mothers.
As a conclusion of Andre Agassi s autobiography Open one can say that the relationships
between the generations is not as good as it could be. The grandmother harasses her son and this
son and father pressures Andre Agassi. The relationships are very negative in a lot of ways, but
either way it ended up shaping the world famous tennis player. This is also how his life and career
has been affected by his social heritage. But that might just be the message; diamonds are made

Mammography Essay
After careful analysis of numerous studies performed in many countries around the world, I believe
that mammography contributes to increased detection of breast cancer but shows no reduction in
its mortality rate. The strongest articles that support my stance surround the Canadian National
Breast Screening Study (CNBSS), which is a randomized clinical trial started in 1980 which aimed
to assess the differences in breast cancerprevalence in two primary groups of women aged 40 59.
89 835 women have participated in this study since its inception. The first group consists of those
who underwent breastexaminations supplemented with screening mammography (mammography
arm, 44 925 women), while the second group only received breast examinations and... Show more

CNBSS findings were released at the 13, 11 16 and 25 year marks. Results from the first period
concluded that early mammography and physical examination of the breasts detected considerably
more node negative, small tumours than usual care, but it had no impact on the rate of death from
breast cancer.1 Due to the length of the observational period following enrollment in the study,
subjects fell between 50 and 59 years old at the time of this evaluation. The mortality ratio
between the two groups at first look was 1.36. Both groups showed similar survival rates1. Upon
the second evaluation, researchers acknowledged the benefit of improved detection of impalpable
and even in situ breast carcinomas with screening, but were adamant that mammography played
no role in reducing mortality rate2. The 25 year findings are of particular importance, as the
CNBSS is now the longest running observational study of its kind. All cause mortality was 9477
or 10.6% in the follow up period3. At the 25 year mark, 505 women in the control arm had died of
breast cancer versus 500 in the mammography arm. One point that was mentioned in many studies

The Mind of Monsters
I can kill a man, dismember his body, and be home in time for Letterman. But knowing what to
say when my girlfriend s feeling insecure... I m totally lost Dexter Morgan (Hall, 2007). Dexter
Morgan is a fictional serial killer from Showtime s series Dexter , but the writers and actors have
portrayed a real life serial killer. Manuel Prado is the real Dexter Morgan. Prado was a Miami cop
who started with smaller crime and worked his way up to becoming a serial killer. Prosecutor
David Waksman told the Miami Herald: He was very cold. He was doing robberies and went

Once that is all clean, he must dispose of the body. Common places to dump a body are rivers,
woods or lakes. But in extreme and rare cases serial killers eat their victims.
The mind of a serial killer is not right and is considered a psychopath. This can be caused by
brain damage. After Henry Lee Lucas was convicted, he underwent numerous neurological tests
that revealed fairly extensive brain damage. Small contusions indicated a frontal lobe injury, and
there was damage to his temporal lobe and pools of spinal fluid at the base of his brain (Vronsky,
2005). Lucas s brain damage is just one cause. Another common reason is that the serial killer
would of had an abusive childhood. Traditionally, the answer has been a horrific upbringing.
Most serial killers were abused as children, many hideously so. (Sandi, n.d) This can have a
range of different abusive activities. One example would be an abusive mother. The killer s
mother would have abused him therefore making him hate women. That would be an example
of how a man killing female serial killer would relate. He would physically abuse the women just
like his mother abused him. Another form of abuse is an alcoholic parent. The serial killer would
wait outside of a bar and look to see of his potential victims were under the influence. If they were
then they would most likely kill the person. A serial killer can also have a euphoric moment. He

Tyler Durden s Loss Of Aggression In Fight Club
The movie Fight Club was based on the story of a man, played by Edward Norton, that had
unmanaged aggression. He met Tyler Durden, played by Brad Pitt, who was a different version
of himself resulting from not releasing aggression. The result of not releasing aggression in a
healthy way started symptoms, including insomnia and getting away from the self, the need for
self destruction, and the need for physical release of aggression. These affect the relationship
with one s self, romantic relationships, and social relationships. The narrator leads a very
mundane, materialistic life. Without releasing aggression, he started feeling the effects of sleep
deprivation, depression, and begins slowly losing his perception of reality. At the beginning of
the movie he began to lose track of the day of the week and was careless at his job. He went to
his doctor to try to get medication to help him deal with insomnia. Unsuccessful, he joined every
kind of terminal illness support group to gain empathy and help him cry; he realized this is the

Fight Club Consumerism Analysis
David Fincher s Fight Club is praised by fans and critics alike as one of the most impactful
representation of society in film. The film follows Jack, the narrator and main character, as he
teams up with a newfound acquaintance named Tyler Durden to form an underground fight club
for men who are bored of their mundane lives(Fincher 1999). As Durden becomes more of a
dominant personality, Fight Club evolves to Project Mayhem, multi celled secret society of
oppressed gray collar workers whose purpose is to battle the modern culture of
consumerism(Fincher 1999). The movie is often discussed by people due to its representation of the
modern manand consumeristic society. In Fight Club, the modern man is described as a white
collar slave who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This causes a sense of powerlessness and a lack of sense of accomplishments as the workers are
fulfilling goals of others and not for themselves. The first rule of Fight Club is: you do not speak
about Fight Club. The second rule of Fight Club is: you do not speak about Fight Club! (Fincher
1999). This rule is used as unity for the group of men involved to create their own counterculture.
Counterculture is defined cultural patterns that strongly oppose those widely accepted within a
society(Macionis,2002:49). As Fight Club progresses and the relationships of the men grows, the
group evolves to a Project Mayhem, a rebellious group to fight consumeristic culture through
terroristic actions, such as public bombing(Fincher 1999). The group they created helps these
men cope with the role strain they have experience as grey collar workers. Through Violence,
both with fist and weapons, The people in project Mayhem causes chaos in white collar society.
This common mission finally gives the members the meaning in their lives they craved so much.
We are all part of the same compost heap, Tyler Durden announces over the loudspeaker to his
fellow project mayhem members(Fincher 1999). This statement by Durden represents the
foundation of an In group We are all in this together . In Group is defined as a social group toward

G-String Social Norms
What does an author hope to achieve by violating social norms in their stories? While some may
solely do it for the thrill of being edgy and outlandish, many use it as a path to normalize
something the author believes should no longer be ostracized in their society. This may come in
the form of a woman becoming independent from an oppressive man, a man escaping a loveless
marriagethat he feels trapped in, or any other person escaping the societal chains which hold them
back from their true potential as an individual. No matter the case, progress towards a more joyful
world cannot be made through idleness. Change happens because people force change to happen,
and the first step to that is to create a catalyst for deliberation. The easily consumable nature of
short stories makes them an excellent tool for opening a dialogue about a social norm that an
author finds off putting or harmful. In the short storyG String by Nicola Barker, the protagonist,
Gillian, is portrayed as a woman in a marriage in which her husband has spent years conditioning
her to think very little of herself through his derogatory comments and blatant disregard for her
feelings. After putting up with insult after insult, she finally stands up for herself and fixes a
problem with her husband s car that he could not solve by using her undergarment, a g string. The
story is not truly about the g string, instead playing a symbolistic role by signifying all that holds
her back. The story is actually about

Edward T. Hall s Four Spatial Zones
Anthropologist Edward T. Hall has defined four spatial zones that we use depending upon the
content that we are communicating and the level of self disclosure. Hall s four spatial zones
begin with what he calls intimate space, skin contact to 18 inches away, this is the space that we
use for intimate conversations, secrets, and deeper levels of self disclosure. The second of Hall s
spatial zones is personal space, 18 inches to 4 feet away, this spatial zone is used to communicate
personal information, but is less intimate than that of intimate space. The third of Hall s spatial
zones is social space, 4 to 12 feet away, in this spatial zone occurs more formal and impersonal
communication. The fourth of Hall s spatial zones is public space, 12... Show more content on

that it not just invading people s physical space that leaves them feeling uneasy, but violating
spatial zones by discussing content that is inappropriate for certain zones. When you discuss

Sociological Approach To Deviance Essay
Exploration into the social world embarks upon the various methods and functions that are
responsible for constructing the concise understandings of sociology. The concept of deviance
configures into the sociological outlook through the emancipation of social control. Hence, the
factors associated with deviant objectives immerse among the ways in which sociologyis conducted.
The enormity of sociological concepts happens to be broken down into three definite approaches,
which allows the fundamentals to be processed via perspective. Deviance, then can be explained
within these methods to procure the effects that each form has on social contexts. Therefore, the
approaches to sociology and the forms of deviance determine significant elements in the societal
atmosphere.
As sociologists divulge into the complexities of their studies, there engages a pattern of similarities
among differing areas of sociology. By close examination of the repetitive patterns, a specific
method evolves for researching and understanding that category of societal contexts. Therefore, an
evolution of three different approaches were conducted in order to achieve the extent of
information available in sociology. Strategic methods allowed multiple perspectives to examine the
same content while reaching various objectives, hence acquiring numerous solutions to a singular
issue. With the availability of a range of solutions came forth the sociological approaches: Positivist

How Is Ethos Used In Advertising
There are millions of commercials. All of them have different audience and purpose. Advertisement
maker tries to convey audience to look at their point of view, which can be political, social or
convincing them to buy their product instead of others. According to the article Rhetoric and
Advertising more than 2,000 years ago the Aristotle came up with three different categories to
describe how people use rhetoricto persuade people: ethos, pathosand logos. Each of these terms
describes different way to try to reach an audience and convince them to agree with you. Pathos
is an appeal to emotion, and is a way of convincing an audience of an argument by creating an
emotional response. Logos is an appeal to logic, and is a way of persuading an audience by
reason. Ethos is an appeal to ethics, and it is a means of convincing someone of the character or
credibility of the persuader. Many ad makers use 2 of 3 techniques in their ad. Commercial
maker uses logos and ethos a lot while making a commercial. For example, Luna commercial.
Luna is a carpeting company who installs new carpet in houses at the discounted prices. They
always have a promotions going on which includes get carpet in 2 rooms and get the 3rd one for
free, by doing this they are attracting customers, this is example of ethos. They also have a
catchy audio which makes people remember their number (773 241 LUNA) this is an example of
logos. They also have family who are dressed well talking about how good their

Three Principles Of Distributive Justice
People see distributive justice through different views. The distribution of goods (or attention,
praise, etc.) is analyzed in different ways by different people. There are three principles of
distributive justice, these principles are equity, equality and need. Equity pertains to people getting
goods or rewards in direct relation to the work they put in or what is perceived to be of greater
importance. For example, a star player in the pro league may deserve higher pay then his/her
teammate who warms the bench. Though the two earn different amounts of salary, there is
distributive justice (equity) in that they are being fairly paid in correspondence to their
contributions to the team. Equality on the other hand, means equal rewards for everyone... Show

It can be said that altruism is the opposite of selfishness. One who is altruistic is concerned with the
welfare of others without expectations of anything in return. ABS CBN s slogan: In the Service
of the Filipino Worldwide comes off as very altruistic. I mean, they are for the service of all
Filipinos with no intention of getting anything in return right? Maybe. Maybe not. This is not
to say that ABS CBN does not actually care for the Filipino people. As with many psychological
theories and concepts, the psychology of helping is complex and multi faceted. For one, there
are different motivations to why people help. Let us discuss these in relation to ABS CBN s
slogan. Apart from altruism, there are three other kinds of motivations. Collectivism in regard to
helping is serving the community to benefit a certain group or collective of people. The group
can range from 2 people to 2 billion. When one is part of a group, there is a tendency to not only
want to help and better your group, there is a tendency to feel indebted to help simply because you
are part of the group. Either way it is the motivation to help because of being part of particular
collection of people. ABS CBN can easily have collectivism as its motive, wanting to enhance
and empower the Filipino people and society of which they belong to as a corporation. Their slogan
can be seen as valuing the welfare of the Filipino people, a collective ABS CBN most

  • 4. Comparing Sweat And The Gilded Six Bits Navin Shiwgobin CRN 1337 Professor Chance March 4, 2016 Compare and Contrasting Sweat and The Gilded Six Bits In the short stories, Sweat and The Gilded Six bit , by Zora Neale Hurston, both take place in her hometown of Eatonville, Florida, during the early 1900s. Eatonville was one of the first towns founded by African Americans in the US. Because they are set in the same town, the stories characters speak in a broken, English dialect of the South, to reflect the era and location in which they lived. These stories depict identical circumstances with different consequences. They illustrate the betrayal of adultery within both of the marriages of Sykes and Delia, from Sweat , and Missy May and Joe from The Gilded Six Bits . Furthermore,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Sweat , Delia is absolutely terrified by the idea of snakes. Sykes knows this but that doesn t stop him from antagonizing her with the thought. He uses a bullwhip to scare her, as it resembles a snake. He puts it over her shoulder while she is doing work, and she reacts terrified, in which greatly pleases Sykes. Sykes, what you throw dat whip on me like dat? You know it would skeer me looks just like a snake, an you knows how skeered Ah is of snakes. (Hurston 1) Sykes still isn t finished with his tormenting, as he brings home a rattlesnake. This is where irony strikes, as the same snake he used to torment Delia bites him and inevitably kills him. In The Gilded Six Bits , the theme of irony is present as well. With Joe s constant praise of Slemmons, this ironically contributed to Missy s betrayal as he constantly peaked her interest about him. Joe and Missy May dont realize that they possess something far more valuable than gold. They have each other s love, which proves to be a very strong thing nonetheless. Missy May almost throws this away for a gold coin, to which she finds out that it is just a gold plated half dollar. She took it into her hands trembling and saw that it was no gold piece. It was a gilded half dollar. (Hurston 734) This experience serves as a precious lesson to them both: all that glitters is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Reflection On The Studyament Of The Old Testament This class has meant much to me, it has given me many things that I will not only carry with me throughout the rest of my life but also throughout the rest of my ministry. I will not only have the ability to use the knowledge gained in this class to enrich my own life and Biblical knowledge but also be able to enrich others lives and lead them to better understanding and application of Biblical principles relating to the Old Testament. One thing that I took away from this class is that the Old Testament is more relevant in our lives than we often give it credit for, Job for example, being able to dive more deeply into his story we are able to see themes and emotions that deeply effect the ways in which we ourselves need to know and understand questions such as Is God as just God, or is God unjust? We often can unknowingly in modern times ask the same questions and have the same debate with other believers without ever actually stopping to realize the similarity and actual Biblical answers to such questions within the realm of the Old Testament. Furthermore, principles like understanding origins and original meaning of words of the Old Testament can play similarly into our lives and even ministry in the sense of fully being able to understand the true context and even meaning of scripture and passages of scripture at times. An example of this is in knowing that (for instance) Judges within the Old Testament were not simply like the modern day judge that we know today, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Being educated enhances an individual to live a reverent life in the society. This is because education offers a setting in which culture and values of a society are developed. In this generation, inculcation in modern society provides a forum where the society examines its issues and identifies solutions. The advancement of a society both economically and convivially is by gaining edification which consequently enables them to run a modern society.getting access to educationhas always been difficult and beneficial to people who are willing to learn. USA is a powerful country and her advantages on education are limitless for teacher and students but Cameroon has less advantages and less teachers.USA and Cameroon with education system are very different. i will compare the difference between teachers skills, book access and the teacher salary gap between both countries. Cameroon is a good country and has a good education system. however, she has a lot to learn from the USA in terms of teaching skills, book access and teacher salary gap. The role of the teacher in the educational system set up is very consequential. It is a two way process like student and skills, or maybe two sides of the same coin. Revista Academie ForTelor Terestre. 1( 61): 75 82. Globalization has brought the world closer in communication, economics, politics, and especially business. The Internet and technological improvements have allowed instantaneous communication almost anywhere, and even poor women in India are using Smartphones to manage their banking portfolios. The idea of globalism continues to break down cultural barriers. As this continues it will be essential for organizations to not only understand, but embrace cultural differences and styles (Trebing and Estabrooks, 2005). Clearly, the changing demands of global stakeholders require new ways of approaching divergent customer bases. There are differences in style, skill, education and attitude in every organization now accentuated when we think of the multi national organization. Correctly managed, this diversity can be a huge bonus to the organization. Organizations are far more effective once they understand and use diversity within their strategic and tactical planning process. • 10. Substance Abuse And Its Effects SUBSTANCE ABUSE Researchers state that almost half of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia in the United States also self medicate with alcohol and other drugs (Elements Behavioral Health, 2014). This is suggested due to individuals attempting to lessen the symptoms of their disorder. As discussed previously symptoms can include hearing and seeing things that others don t hear or see, problems falling asleep or staying asleep and problems with concentration and memory. In an effort to lessen these symptoms alcohol and other drugs are used to induce sleep (NIMH, 2014). Research suggests that approximately fifty percent of individuals diagnosed with schizophreniahave a co occurring substance abuse disorder. The most common used are alcohol, marijuana and tobacco (Green, Drake, Brunette Noordsy, 2007) (Dube, 2012). In contrast to what individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia think they may be achieving by using alcohol and other drugs, research states that substance use may actually modify the dysfunction in the brain reward center by increasing the symptoms (Green et.al, 2007). Self medicating with alcohol and other drugs can often lead to disruptions in gaining access to treatment. Pharmacological treatment is seen as one of the most effective ways to assist with symptom reduction, and using alcohol and other drugs often interfere (MHA, n.d). African American Stereotypes in the Media Jakaya McCambry 10/02/12 African American Stereotypes in the Media When I first heard someone say, All African American people are Ghetto, I was very offended that someone would make this type of assumption about my culture, and I thought how ignorant this person must be; but then I stopped and wondered why other people would think this about us. I asked her why she would say something like this, and she instantly listed shows like Tosh.O and Chelsea Lately, which highlight my culture in a negative view. It was clear to me that she had made up her mind about black people through watching the media and seeing African Americans fulfill that stereotype in person. This led me to question: Where exactly do these stereotypes come from? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The way entertainment in the media portrays us has greatly affected how others identify us. Movies and shows like; Madea s family Reunion, Bringing down the House, Love and Hip Hop, and Basketball Wives all portray us in a degrading way. People sometimes find it comical of course, but the fact that it is comical does not justify it being debasing. This image of us has evolved from things in the media, and its power to shape people s idea of us. We as a race must stop living up to our stereotypes. As soon as we take action in not succumbing to our own stereotype, people will not think we are Ghetto or any other undignified term they think of us; therefore in the media we won t be perceived in that way. As Colin Powell once said, Fit no stereotypes. Don t chase the latest management fads. The situation dictates which approach best accomplishes the team s mission. Although African Americanstereotyping is prevalent in the media now because of its entertaining quality; it perpetuates a cycle of harmful stereotypes. As long as this cycle continues, our culture will always be illustrated negatively. Works Cited Dixon, Travis L. It is quiet normal in nowadays that people encounter bilinguals in their daily bases. There is a common sense that bilinguals should have certain abilities prior to monolinguals. Bialystok (2001) suggested that the constant managing 2 competing languages enhance the executive function . Moreover, her another study(Bialystok, 2004) indicated that bilingual participants also responded more rapidly to conditions that placed greater demands on working memory. In all cases the bilingual advantage was greater for older participants. These two findings imply that bilingualism have beneficial effects on the executive function and working memory.Besides the excellent executive function ability and the great capability of working memory, researchers also found out that bilinguals have advantages on a particular working memory. The study of Luo et.al (2013) demonstrated that bilinguals outperforms the monolingual participants in spatial working memory. It showed that bilinguals are superior to monolinguals in some aspects, which can provide a exact picture how bilingualism facilitates people so that it may motivate people to start acquiring a new language. For my own curious, I want to know that if bilinguals advantage can persist across different experimental designs. In addition, it should be interesting to test the correlation of different types of bilinguals and ... According to the myth, the constellation can be associated to the goddess Aphrodite and her son Eros. One version of the story said that they themselves transformed while fleeing from Typhon. Another story would say that two fish, which was placed in the sky, were the ones that carried Aphrodite and Eros away from harms way. If I were to create a myth about the constellation, I would do it with different circumstances. Ares has always been an embodiment of everything male. Physically, he was perfect with a statuesque physique, a blinding smile that would make your heart melt, sea blue eyes that seemed to have the ability to pierce into your soul and dig up your very essence. He also had a double charm to him, one side would reveal him to be a golden boy, very heroic and kind, yet he always had a hidden twinkle in his eye, hinting that beneath all that charisma, he was also bad ass. All the girls flocked to him. All except one. Aphrodite. Aphrodite overflowed with love and beauty. How could she not? She was the goddess of Love and Beauty after all. She ... Yes, taxes, taxes help fund our schools, build/fix roads, social security, Medicare, Medicaid, military/security defense, safety net programs, and of course the interest on our national debt. The federal government must make regular interest payments on all the money borrowed from other countries. Budget deficits, budget surplus, national debt, deficit spending all have pros and cons. The US government borrows money from two sources, the public and itself to fill in these budget deficits. The government borrows money from the public by issuing treasury bills, notes, and bonds. The treasury bills are for short term borrowing. About 60% of the held American debt belongs to Americans, foreign lenders hold the other 40%, China is the biggest party that holds about $800 billion in treasures, and Japan is right behind them at $725 billion. Borrowing in order to invest in infrastructure, education, or similar projects to improve economic growth over the long term. The benefits that accrue from the investments will pay more than just the interest incurred on the debt, it s similar to when an entrepreneur borrows to start a new business or a student takes out loans to pay for education. These would be good borrowed funds, and help the borrower in the long term. The Cross And The Lynching Tree By James Cone Decades have passed since the end of the American Civil War, a war in which hundreds of thousands of individuals died defending what each considered to be just. One of the bloodiest wars in human history, the repercussions of the Civil War did not finish when the South lost the war and African American slaves gained their liberty. Continual tension existed between white and black citizens after the South lost the right to possess slaves. The transition was especially hard to handle by white citizens who, for decades, failed to recognize the human dignity of their fellow black citizens. He argues that lynching of black citizens became the American way of crucifixion of black people. In his book, Cone highlights the suffering of thousands of black citizens from hatred from a Christian perspective. Analyzing history with a metaphor little used before, Cone identifies the direct relationship between the suffering of African Americans and the Calvary of Jesus Christ. There exist, in fact, certain commonalities between lynching in America and Roman crucifixion. Crucifixion served the Romans as a warning spectacle to demonstrate dominance, and to warn people that any action taken against the Roman governance, was worth punishment.2 The crucifixion of Jesus and the lynching of black citizens were a ... This act is translated into todays concept of rape, but as the narrative continues we see how Shechem tries to justify his manner by claiming he fell victim to love. Being drawn to Dinah, daughter of Jacob, and in love with the maiden, he spoke to the maiden tenderly (Genesis 34:3). This, however, is not admissible in the eyes of Israel s men. Shechem s behavior is considered an outrage in Israel...a thing not to be done , and therefore, hinders Shechem s aspiration of marriage to her (Genesis 34:7). One of the ways he is able to seek mercy is by offering Dinah s brothers and father a high bride price. This offering along with a promise for all men to be circumcised in accordance with God s command to their grandfather Abraham: This is my covenant between Me and you and your offspring to follow which you shall keep: every male among you shall be circumcised, is a fitting plea to their ears and Dinah is wed off (Genesis 17:10). But what about Dinah s ears? Who is to say that she wants to marry this man who defiled her? What is her view on it all? Hiv And Treatment Adherence By Bobbi Marie Pollard HIV and Treatment Adherence Bobbi Marie Pollard Loyola University Chicago School of Social Work Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a chronic illness, however, for those with access to health care and treatment, it is a very manageable condition. Although it is no longer considered a death sentence in developed countries, it is still a highly stigmatized illness. The public may no longer perceive HIV as the plague it once was, yet there has been no decline in the number of new infections per year in the past decade in the United States (Catalan et al., 2000). Today, people are living longer with HIV due to the development of combination antiretroviral drug therapies (ART). ART has provided significant progress in treatment (Linsk et al., 2002). Treatment accessibility and medication adherence are crucial in order to continue manage the disease on both the individual and public level. Overview of HIV/AIDS HIV and AIDS are sometimes used interchangeably, although there is a significant difference, and some HIV positive individuals will never develop Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). Testing HIV positive means there are antibodies present in the system. HIV is classified into two phases: symptomatic and asymptomatic. • 34. Between The Gnostic Christology And Trinity Of The... As shown below, the similarities between the Gnostic Christology and Trinity of the Valentinians and the orthodox Trinitarians are striking. The Valentinians were teaching a Christology very similar to the Christology of the Trinity Doctrine expressed in the Athanasian Creed about 350 before the proclamation of the Athanasian Creed. Valentinus (c.100 c.160) was a teacher in Rome, who almost became Pope. Before coming to Rome in about 140, he had studied in Egypt. About 160, he died in Cyprus. He claimed to have received his ideas from Theodas, a disciple of Paul. Valentinianism survived into the fifth century. Valentinus teachings merged Christianity with Greek and Oriental speculation. He developed a metaphysical system that incorporated Christianity with paganism and Greek philosophy, primarily Platonism. His theology fluctuated between Gnosticism, esotericism, and orthodoxy Christianity of his time. Valentinus believed that Christ s flesh was spiritual. Although Jesusate and drank, he did not defecate. Because Jesus body received heavenly substance, it only appeared to need food. (This idea of Jesus conflicts with the New Treatment: Jesus was like his brethren in all things [Heb. 2:17]. Like the Valentinians, the Trinitarians also have a Jesus who is incompatible with the New Testament Jesus.) Fundamental to the Valentinian Christology is Christ s deity and preexistence. The Village Blacksmith is a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The literary elements that i will be talking about are, enjambment, the theme of death and elision. Firstly enjambment is seen more than once throughout the duration of the poem. Dickinson says, Heavenly Hurt, it gives us/We can find no scar, (Dickinson, 5 6) during that part of the poem she uses enjambment to create a dramatic pause, to show that it is not an actual physical scar, but a mental one caused by, Heavenly Hurt . As with The Village Blacksmith, in A certain Slant of Light there us a common theme of death throughout both. This theme is seen when Dickinson says, When it goes, tis like the Distance/On the look of Death Dissimilar to the theme within The Village Blacksmith, the message of the theme of death is different because of using death as an object rather than a process that someone undergoes. Rather than using death as something that the blacksmith dealt with, A certain Slant of Light personifies death as an entity that is being described as having a distant look. Lastly, elision is the final literary technique i will be talking about. The quote i will be using to demonstrate the use of elision says, Tis the seal Despair (Dickinson, 10) In this quote, the use of the word Tis shows the use of elision by shortening and combining the words it and is . I think the reason that Dickinson did this is because the use of shortened words was more common in the time period when it was written. After finishing my high school l went to Vaal university of Technology for my diploma, University of Pretoria for my degree in engineering, and then Sorbonne University for my masters in engineering. What first draw you to study engineering? It has always been a passion in my life to work with electricity and electronic devices. When l was young l used to fix and repair adapters, radios and TVs. Being accepted to the engineering faculty was just a continuation of the dream that l begun when l was young. Which year of study was the most challenging, and why? Probably, my first year was horrible because l was less prepared for university studies. I missed most classes; fell behind in class, and l was very uncertain about whether l was following the right career path. What do you enjoy least or most about engineering? I hate those long hours figuring out a solution to a problem that seems impossible to decode. Why should one become an engineer? Engineering is a challenging, high paying career. Herbert Hoover s The Great Depression Herbert Hoover got many things wrong about the great economic calamity that destroyed his presidency and his historical reputation, but he got one thing right. Much legend to the contrary, the Great Depression was not entirely, perhaps not even principally, made in America. The primary cause of the Great Depression, was the war of 1914 1918. Though economists and historians continue to this day to debate the proximate causes of the Great Depression, there can be little doubt that the deepest roots of the crisis lay in the several chronic infirmities that afflicted the post World War I international economic order and touched every country on the planet. The fighting had taken a cruel toll on key economies like those of Britain, France, and Germany, the core societies of the advanced industrialized world. The lingering distortions in trade, capital flows, and exchange rates occasioned by the heedlessly punitive Treaty of Versailles, as the economist John Maynard Keynes observed at the time, managed to perpetuate in peacetime the economic disruptions that had brought so much hardship in wartime. What was more, memories of the war s bitter fighting and vengeful conclusion rendered the post war international atmosphere toxic, poisoning the wells of traditional diplomacy and dooming any efforts at concerted multi lateral action to deal with the gathering crisis. To those abundant physical and institutional ills might be added the psychological maladies of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The strongest articles that support my stance surround the Canadian National Breast Screening Study (CNBSS), which is a randomized clinical trial started in 1980 which aimed to assess the differences in breast cancerprevalence in two primary groups of women aged 40 59. 89 835 women have participated in this study since its inception. Results from the first period concluded that early mammography and physical examination of the breasts detected considerably more node negative, small tumours than usual care, but it had no impact on the rate of death from breast cancer.1 Due to the length of the observational period following enrollment in the study, subjects fell between 50 and 59 years old at the time of this evaluation. The mortality ratio between the two groups at first look was 1.36. Both groups showed similar survival rates1. Upon the second evaluation, researchers acknowledged the benefit of improved detection of impalpable and even in situ breast carcinomas with screening, but were adamant that mammography played no role in reducing mortality rate2. The 25 year findings are of particular importance, as the CNBSS is now the longest running observational study of its kind. All cause mortality was 9477 or 10.6% in the follow up period3. After Henry Lee Lucas was convicted, he underwent numerous neurological tests that revealed fairly extensive brain damage. Small contusions indicated a frontal lobe injury, and there was damage to his temporal lobe and pools of spinal fluid at the base of his brain (Vronsky, 2005). Lucas s brain damage is just one cause. Another common reason is that the serial killer would of had an abusive childhood. Traditionally, the answer has been a horrific upbringing. Most serial killers were abused as children, many hideously so. (Sandi, n.d) This can have a range of different abusive activities. One example would be an abusive mother. The killer s mother would have abused him therefore making him hate women. That would be an example of how a man killing female serial killer would relate. • 49. G-String Social Norms What does an author hope to achieve by violating social norms in their stories? While some may solely do it for the thrill of being edgy and outlandish, many use it as a path to normalize something the author believes should no longer be ostracized in their society. This may come in the form of a woman becoming independent from an oppressive man, a man escaping a loveless marriagethat he feels trapped in, or any other person escaping the societal chains which hold them back from their true potential as an individual. No matter the case, progress towards a more joyful world cannot be made through idleness. Change happens because people force change to happen, and the first step to that is to create a catalyst for deliberation. The easily consumable nature of short stories makes them an excellent tool for opening a dialogue about a social norm that an author finds off putting or harmful. In the short storyG String by Nicola Barker, the protagonist, Gillian, is portrayed as a woman in a marriage in which her husband has spent years conditioning her to think very little of herself through his derogatory comments and blatant disregard for her feelings. After putting up with insult after insult, she finally stands up for herself and fixes a problem with her husband s car that he could not solve by using her undergarment, a g string. Advertisement maker tries to convey audience to look at their point of view, which can be political, social or convincing them to buy their product instead of others. According to the article Rhetoric and Advertising more than 2,000 years ago the Aristotle came up with three different categories to describe how people use rhetoricto persuade people: ethos, pathosand logos. Each of these terms describes different way to try to reach an audience and convince them to agree with you. Pathos is an appeal to emotion, and is a way of convincing an audience of an argument by creating an emotional response. Logos is an appeal to logic, and is a way of persuading an audience by reason.
