Keuzevak ondernemen HoGent: stimuleren v ondernemingszin. derrebart

Unraveling the shift to the entrepreneurial economyErik Stam
A major shift in the organization of developed economies has been taking place: away from what has been characterized as the managed economy towards the entrepreneurial economy, or what Kirchhoff (1994) has called dynamic capitalism. However, the factors underlying this observed shift have not been identified in a systematic manner. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the main factors leading to this shift and implications for public policy. In particular, we find that technological change is a fundamental catalyst underlying the shift from the managed to the entrepreneurial economy. However, it was not just technological change but rather involved a multitude of factors, ranging from the demise of the communist system, increased globalization, corporate reorganization, increased knowledge production and higher levels of prosperity. Recognition of the causes of the shift from the managed to the entrepreneurial economy implies a shift in public policy directions. Rather than to focus directly and exclusively on promoting new firms and small firms, it may be that the current approach to entrepreneurship policy is misguided. The priority should not be on entrepreneurship policy but rather a more pervasive and encompassing approach, policy consistent with an entrepreneurial economy, in order to foster dynamic capitalism.
Entrepreneurial Ecosystems and Regional Policy_Stam Pecs conference Universit...Erik Stam
The document discusses the entrepreneurial ecosystem approach, which synthesizes academic work on entrepreneurship and regional development. It provides a systemic view of how regions evolve through entrepreneurship. The approach views regions as complex systems with interdependent elements. It also examines the stakeholders involved in entrepreneurial ecosystems, including leaders and support organizations. The framework can be used to diagnose bottlenecks in ecosystems and inform debate between stakeholders about how to address them.

Introduction Entrepreneurial Academy #3 StamErik Stam
This document discusses entrepreneurial ecosystems. It defines the key elements of an entrepreneurial ecosystem as networks, leadership, finance, talent, knowledge, and support services. It also discusses outcomes of entrepreneurial ecosystems such as aggregate value creation and entrepreneurial activity. Finally, it mentions some examples of entrepreneurial ecosystem governance structures in the Netherlands, including regions like Amsterdam, Twente, Brainport, Utrecht, and South Holland.
I. The document discusses how the knowledge triangle of higher education, research, and entrepreneurship interacts within regional entrepreneurial ecosystems to create value.
II. It presents a model of an entrepreneurial ecosystem consisting of actors, factors, and their coordination to enable entrepreneurship. In the model, the knowledge triangle provides talent, knowledge-based opportunities, and entrepreneurial action.
III. The document examines case studies in the Netherlands to assess how governance can better coordinate the interaction between research, education, and business to strengthen regional entrepreneurial ecosystems.
Entrepreneurship in the UK and the NetherlandsErik Stam
This document compares entrepreneurship in the UK and Netherlands. It finds that while the Netherlands has seen strong growth in self-employment, the UK may be better for scale-ups and social entrepreneurship due to weaker employment protections and welfare states. The UK also has a stronger culture that views entrepreneurship positively and as a good career choice, as well as better access to entrepreneurial finance. Overall, the document concludes that the UK and Netherlands create different environments for entrepreneurship.
It has become fashionable for corporates to state that they have to become more entrepreneurial. A route to realize this is via intrapreneurship. However, in contrast to the level of enthusiasm about intrapreneurship, reality shows that effectively incorporating intrapreneurship within an established company is almost a mission impossible.
In this talk I will take you through the intrapreneurship cycle: how can we make the elements work, and connect them to become a virtuous cycle instead of the proliferating vicious cycles we see in practice.
The State of Entrepreneurship in the Netherlands 2015Erik Stam
Total entrepreneurial activity and entrepreneurial employee activity in the Netherlands is strong compared to other European countries like Belgium, Denmark, Germany, and Sweden, however the country could increase the number of ambitious startups that aim to create 20 or more jobs as such companies only make up a small percentage of the population.
This document discusses entrepreneurial ecosystems and the situation in the Netherlands. It contains the following key points:
1. An entrepreneurial ecosystem is defined as an interdependent set of actors governed in a way that enables entrepreneurship. Key elements include culture, networks, finance, talent, and demand.
2. The Netherlands has seen amazing growth in entrepreneurship but a paradox of mostly solo self-employment and low rates of ambitious, growth-oriented entrepreneurship.
3. To develop a healthy entrepreneurial ecosystem, the Netherlands needs to change institutions to enable talent mobility, stimulate public demand for new knowledge, and foster a culture of ambitious entrepreneurship through leadership. Improved monitoring of regional ecosystems is also recommended.
There has been an amazing growth of entrepreneurship in the Netherlands in the period 1987-2012. One the one hand this is a miracle: there is no European country in which the Total Entrepreneurial Activity rate has grown as much as in the Netherlands over the period 2003-2012. On the other hand there is a paradox: this growth is increasingly a matter of growing numbers of solo self-employed, with only low/mediocre rates of growth-oriented entrepreneurship.
