SQL Lab 4 Instructions: Procedural SQL
Objective
The objective of this lab is to teach you how to develop and use basic stored procedures and
triggers the procedural language of your chosen DBMS.
Prerequisites
Before attempting this lab, it is best to read the textbook and lecture material covering the
objectives listed above. While this lab shows you how to create and use these constructs in SQL, the
lab does not explain in full the theory behind the constructs, as does the lecture and textbook. The
second section in this lab builds on Lab 3. It is best to complete Lab 3 first before completing the
second section in this lab.

These constructs greatly enhance the native capabilities of the DBMS. The procedural languages
also support the ability to embed and use the results of SQL queries. The combination of the
programming constructs provided by the procedural language, and the data retrieval and
manipulation capabilities provided by the SQL engine, is powerful and useful. Database texts and
DBMS documentation commonly refers to the fusion of the procedural language and the
declarative SQL language as a whole within the DBMS.
Oracle s implementation is named Procedural Language/Structured Query Language, and is more
commonly referred to as PL/SQL, while SQL Server s implementation is named TransactвЂђSQL,
and is more commonly referred to as TвЂђSQL. SQL predates the procedural constructs in both
DBMS, and therefore documentation for both DBMS refer to the procedural language as an
extension to the SQL language. This idea can become confusing because database texts and
documentation also refer to the entire unit, for example PL/SQL and TвЂђSQL, as a
vendorвЂђspecific extension to the SQL language. It is important for us to avoid this confusion by
recognizing that there are two distinct languages within a relational DBMS declarative and
procedural and that both are treated very differently within a DBMS in concept and in

Compare and Contrast the Part That the City or State...
In both Antigone and Oedipus the King the city plays an important part with the majority of the
action in both plays taking place in public in front of a chorus of Theban citizens. Personal
conflict/crises take place in public, and when personal events take place off stage, they are relied
to the chorus (and the audience) through messengers. The city also helps to move the plot of the
plays along, as well providing dramatic tension. In addition the city helps to give us greater
understanding of the characters of Oedipusand Creon, as the rulers of Thebes in Oedipus the King

have witnessed first hand is that by moving through the general education curriculum you can

I often rewarded students with tokens for going above and beyond in helping their classmates. I
want to inspire them to be not just good students, but even better people!
The impetus for this realization came about as the subject of SBAC and Cal. Alt. testing was
broached in a staff meeting in the winter. We were given booklets that contained questions that
were old or similar questions to those that had appeared before on the test. I used these booklets
as a planner for my winter/spring instruction guide. I went through the booklets with the class
doing the problems. As we approached each problem, if it was a subject we had not yet covered
or discussed, I would break it down and build a lesson around it. It was quite beneficial as we
were now working on things that they would ultimately see on their respective tests. They were
doing exactly what their general education peers were doing. The difference being that rather than
glancing over the material, I was using the material as a base and then adapting and modifying it
based on each student s needs.
This was really helpful as when each of the students took their respective tests, they had a fighting
chance. I administered the Cal. Alt. to some of my class, and while they didn t get all the answers
correct, they got quite a few right. There was nothing more rewarding than seeing questions arise on

As in any other Treaty a verification and transparency regime was set up to have compliance by
both the United States and Russian administration to meet the treaty s limitations. Verification
control included in site inspection, data exchange, maintain records of location, numbers and
characteristics of the weapons that is limited by the treaty. The purpose of in site inspection of
the nuclear facilities, weapon arsenal storage and sharing of the data recordings as indicated in
the Treaty is to place a transparency and establish trust in the intentions between the US and
