Comparing Two Works Of Art That Featured The God Dionysos
I chose to compare and contrast two works of art that featured the god Dionysos. Dionysos was a
god of celebration and wine, promoting both the intoxicating power of wine and its social benefits
for bringing people together. He was an advocate of peace and a promoter of peaceful civilization.
Both The Hope Dionysos and the Triumph of Dionysos and the Seasons Sarcophagus represent why
Dionysos was such an important and celebrated figurein mythology, which is why I chose to
analyze two works of art that centered on him. My first impression of each piece was of
Dionysos as a peaceful, benevolent and joyful figure. I was struck by the calm peacefulness he
embodied in The Hope Dionysos and the happiness he shared on the Triumph of Dionysos and the
Seasons Sarcophagus. Though there are many elements to compare and contrast, my analysis will
show that both pieces are tributes and representations of Dionysos meaning and purpose in Roman
art. The Hope Dionysos, displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Greek and Roman Art
gallery, depicts Dionysos standing and leaning with one arm on a smaller female figure that is
believed to Spes, the personification of hope. He is shown without his usual attributes of a drinking
cup or a pinecone topped staff, and both the handat his side and the hand resting on Spes and
reaching out towards the viewer are empty. Spes, however, holds what appears to be a lotus flower
in her hand. This image, with the personification of hope, could have

Different Types Of Junk Yard
You Can Find Auto Parts In Junkyard With A Good Working Condition
The stereotypical type of a junk yard is Junk Yard Mississauga, which is completely smashed with
cars piled sky high and a couple of ferocious dogs couldn t be further from the truth these days.
It s not necessary to slur through jumbled, twisted metal just to find the auto parts that you need.
The modern junk yards are far easier to cross.Organization is vital for any business and mechanics

The catalog is then stored on the computer and can be checked for the appropriate vehicle parts as

Pros And Cons Of Exclusionary Rule
SUPPORT FOR THE EXCLUSIONARY RULE First, supporters for the continued use of the
exclusionary rule maintain that its ability to protect a citizen from unreasonable search and seizures
should not be neglected. By protecting individuals from unreasonable search and seizures, this law
serves to uphold a citizen s privacy and basic constitutional rights. For example, if a law
enforcement officer enters a house to search for a suspect without a warrant, any evidence obtained
through that search which does not have to do with that particular crime/suspect may not be used in
court. Additionally, they claim that this rule serves as a deterrent against policemisconduct. Since
this rule doesn t allow for illegally obtained evidence to be used in court, they believe that law
enforcement officials will be discouraged from conducting unreasonable search and seizures
because the evidence obtained from these searches would not be able to be used in court. Without
the exclusionary rule, law enforcement officials, as well as anyone else, could easily manufacture
false evidence or use illegally obtained evidence to be submitted in court. This kind of corruptive
police behavior could potentially result in innocent victims being locked away. While others claim,
that by not excluding this illegally obtained evidence, the court is participating in illegal activity
which may result in the integrity of our justice system to be compromised.
ARGUMENTS AGAINST THE EXCLUSIONARY RULE Those against

Mass Media And Its Effect On Society
Mass Media are organizations in our society. The medium industries provide information and
entertainment, but mass media also can affect political, social, and cultural institutions.
Mediums such as radio, newspapers, and television all reflect and affect American society.
However, the main one that I am going to discuss is Radio. Radio is more effective in mass
media as compared to the other mediums. The way radio was back then is way different from
what it is in society today, it has changed over time. People believe that radio is one of the dying
mediums, but that s false. Radio has saved plenty of lives through communication. Radio has
been the first device to allow for mass communication. It changed the pace at which information
was exchanged. Radio broadcasts that exist in society today didn t began until after World War
I. Radio was used during the war to communicate. But, the federal government had ordered all
professionals off the air taking control over all stations. Back in 1920, KDKA was licensed as
the nation s first commercial broadcast in the United States. The audience began to expand very
quickly because advertisers began to see how well the broadcast was doing. In addition, seeing
that the audience was expanding they started to think about how they would make money. So, AT
T radio broadcast station (WEAF) became the first paid commercial, they began selling limited
advertisement time to sponsors. This led to success. Radio back then was and still is a

Essay On Single American Food
Diet is a huge concern for many people today who are either trying to control a preventable
disease or those people who are trying to lose the excess weight that they are carrying around
with them. Not only has our diet as Americans been steadily getting worse but as our population
has risen there have been very few attempts to counter the negative effects that over processing
our food has done. Every Single American, who has eaten the hot lunches at school remembers
and has a first hand knowledge of the taste of preservatives and manufactured flavor of the food
they ate during their formative years attending Elementary through High School. To get an
understanding of our diet we need to see the what has been in front of our faces for generations.
In fact at least 2 generations. The only generation in its entirety to to not see food that was
processed and packaged for shelf life was that of our greatest generation... those people who
fought and won World War II. Many of them were exposed to it during their time in the Military
but up until then had probably grown most of their food themselves or, at the very least, had
access to fresh, food sans preservatives. What was it about that time frame that has now caused the
greatest lack of basic constituents that food has ever known? I will cover that in another article.

This doesn t mean that I advocate vegetarianism or veganism as that is a specific choice with it s
own dietary needs and choices. However essential oils are a good way for vegetarians and
vegans to supplement what they are lacking in their diets unless they grow all their food
themselves, but I digress. Essential oils are part of the Alternative Medicine category but are
becoming more and more relevant in Conventional Medicine as scientists are realizing the
importance of these very basic substances because of their wide variety of

The War Of The Concentration Camp And Extermination Camp...
In November of 1944, John McCloy, the United States Assistant Secretary of War, responded by
letter to John Pehle, United States Executive Director of the War Refugee Board, in opposition and
briefly supported as to why the War Department of the United States was against and why it would
not go through with the bombing operation of the concentration camp and extermination camp at
Auschwitz Birkenau. In the brief McCloy laid out five specific reasons as to why the department
would not be carried out the military plan at that point in time during the war. The five reasons that
made up McCloy s argument were: first, Positive destruction of these camps would necessitate
precision bombing, employing heavy or medium bombardment, or attack by low flying or dive
bombing aircraft, preferably the latter. Second, the target is beyond the maximum range of medium
bombardment, dive bombers and fighter bombers located in United Kingdom, France or Italy.
Third, use of heavy bombardment from United Kingdom bases would necessitate a hazardous
round trip flight unescorted of approximately 2,000 miles over enemy territory. Fourth, At the
present critical stage of the war in Europe, our strategic air forces are engaged in the destruction of
industrial target systems vital to the dwindling war potential of the enemy, from which they should
not be diverted. The positive solution to this problem is the earliest possible victory over Germany,
to which end we should exert our entire means. Fifth,

Summary Of I Survived The Bombing Of Pearl Harbor
The book I Survived the Bombing of Pearl Harbor was written by Lauren Tarshis . This book;
like most historical fiction books; mixed actual events with fictional characters. I overall liked
this book but was a bit disappointed when they mainly focused on characters rather than real
events. The summary of the book is about a boy named Danny who lived with his Ma in New
York City, but that all changed when Finn; a friend of Danny; fell off a balcony and got hurt.
Danny s Ma then decided to move to Hawaii because she thought it was much safer there; Danny
really wanted to get back to New York and Finn; he even thought about stowing away on a ship that
traveled between Hawaii and California. Then he met a boy named Aki; and later his mother

Comparing Synoptic Gospels In Matthew, Mark, And Luke
Synoptic Comparison Matthew, Mark, and Luke are the three books in the New Testament that
have been titled the synoptic gospels. The three gospels differ in some dramatic ways, but have
many similar stories and accounts of the life of Jesus. There have been disputes over the source
and the relationship between the three gospels, but most scholars tend to agree that the gospel of
Markwas written first, and the authors of Matthew and Luke used Mark as a source for their
work. This Markan priority helps scholars to begin to examine the differences and similarities that
appear across the synoptic gospels, and determine how and why many pericopes seem to vary and
even contradict each other at times. An example of one of the passages that... Show more content on

In Mark, Jesus time in his hometown of Nazareth abruptly ends when he decides to leave town
and go to teach in other villages. Luke, however, tells us that Jesus interactions with the
Nazarenes are not yet over. Jesus begins to tell the people how in the time of Elijah and Elisha
there was a famine in the land and many people were suffering because of it, Gentiles and Jews
alike. Elijah and Elisha, however, were sent by God not to the Jews and people of Israel, but to
outsiders in other places. This was a form of punishment for the people of Israel for the rejection
of God. Jesus pointed out the passage because he wanted to warn the Nazarenes of what might
happen if they continue to reject his teachings. Another possibility is that Luke added this
section to promote his social agenda of righting the situations of people that have been wronged
and, more importantly, giving up money and possessions to the poor, outcasts and women.
Jesus talks about how God decided to send the prophets to the outcasts in other regions rather
than the Israelites, who had already received much favor from God in the past. The Nazarenes
were offended at Jesus mention of God s inclusion of Gentiles by sending aid for them and not
for the Jews, showing universalism. God blessed the people that were righteous and worthy of
his aid, and the Jews were not happy that Jesus brought up God s sending of his prophets to
Gentiles as opposed to Jews in the Old Testament. This addition by Luke explains why the
Nazarenes became so upset at what Jesus was telling them. Jesus used these examples as a way of
previewing that his mission was to reach everyone, not just Jews. The addition of these examples
shows how Luke wanted to highlight his theme of universalism and including everyone who is
willing to follow. Luke s major themes of righting social wrongs and giving up comforting
possessions are also supported through the addition of this

Gulf Oil Synthesis Essay
Oil has been a coveted resource since the early twentieth century. Global oil powers are a major
component of the world economy. For this reason predominant oil producers have experienced
numerous power struggles and violent outbreaks over the years. Due to the newfound independence
of many Middle Eastern countries in the 1960s, many rich oil fields were accessed for the first
time, providing new competitors for the hegemonic American Seven Sisters. Tensions rose between
the United Statesand many Middle Eastern countries not only as a result of competition, but also
due to several oil related wars that broke out in the region. The years that encompassed the strained

In 1973 the irritation became an outrage due to a surprise attack from Egypt, an attempt to
recapture territory in the Sinai Peninsula from Israel. Although it lasted only six days, Gulf oil
producers were aggravated when the United States choice to supply arms to allied Israeli military

exports and raising prices. These turn of events was where OPEC first demonstrated its power.
The embargo neglected America s need of imported oil from OPEC, which forced domestic
production to intensify. With no incoming oil imports, America focused on lowering oil prices
for their citizens, (See appendix IV) as well as their dependency on foreign commodities. The
House of Representatives passed a bill that demanded that no one person could export American
crude oil for the next one hundred and eighty days. The Arab Embargo quadrupled American oil
prices and raised retail gas prices by forty percent. The Embargo Act s impact on domestic politics
concerned American policy makers, who were pursuading leaders of OPEC to reinvest in Western
products, especially American weapons. The embargo was lifted, but the United States was now

keep going. Through near impossible circumstances, Shackleton pushed his limits and managed to
bring himself and all of his 28 men through hell. English explorer, Sir Ernest Shackleton or as his
crew called him, The Boss always had a calling from Antarctica. On his first expedition, Ernest and
the crew came closer to the South Pole than anyone in history before. With all his gained
knowledge from the previous expedition, he set off with his crew in order to be the first person to

He would always take the most strategic route in accomplishing his goal. Shackleton was a very
intellectual man. This was crucial for the survival of his men, because they needed a figurehead
to rely on, someone they knew was going to get them out of there alive. For my first point,
Shackleton was very intellectual in the way that he had held his men s personal belongings.
Shackleton knew that if they were to go on the on land expedition, his men couldn t bring all of
their belongings, so he set a 2lb weight limit on all of his staff. Ernest also knew that the only
chance they had of making it out alive was to launch the three boats and try to make way for
Elephant Island. He also knew that the boats weighed 700lbs each, and that all their personal
belongings would be going in those. For the men to carry the boats plus all the personal
belongings of his men, it would have been unbearable. Shackleton also knew that belongings
would have no use to he, or his men for the trip. Gold coins would be useless if he was to get out
of the Antarctic alive. Even items of sentimental value would be thrown away, but it was the only
way for the men to get out alive. Secondly, Shackleton ordered the banjo be brought along the on
land trip. At first this may have seemed like a stupid idea, it would just be more weight to carry
along. The two pound rule was created for a reason. However, Shackleton knew that the men would
need something

functions of JIT is that it uncovers the problems in production by keeping minimal items available.
With no pools of inventory the goal of JIT it to allow a smooth flow of production without any
kinks or waste. Since using the JIT system Space Age has uncovered a problem with its key
worker ED putting in to many hours due to a glitch in the production of part 3079.
In addition to the manufacturing problem Space Age is facing they are also in a dilemma regarding
the reduction of overtime costs and inventory costs. If the over time costs tend to lessen the
inventory costs, overtime costs would be higher and the employee would be unhappy. If inventory
costs reduce overtime costs then inventory costs would be higher than previous. Managers of Space

In the spring of 1940 Europe was enveloped in war. The German military machine had already
conquered Poland, Denmark, and Norway. However, not content with northern and eastern
expansion, Adolf Hitler wanted to control the western countries in Europe. Hitler had long been
obsessed with attacking and controlling France. After their defeat in World War I
, the German
people, government, and military were humiliated by the enormous post war sanctions leveraged
against them from the Treaty of Versailles. Hitler wanted to defeat and humiliate the French people
in the same way that his country had to experience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The French knew what kind of war they expected to fight. They also expected, and wanted to fight
the Nazis in Belgium, not on French soil.3
This defensive strategy resulted in military commanders convincing politicians to construct
fortifications across France s borders. These 140 kilometers of fortifications built from 1930 1937
were known as the Maginot Line. While not a fully connected wall of fortifications, they varied in
strength and assets. The strongest, most heavily fortified area of the Maginot line stretched from
France s border with Switzerland and Germany. The Luxembourg and a very small portion of the
Belgium border had smaller, less concentrated defense array. The Maginot Line structures were
never intended to be similar to the Great Wall of China. The true purpose was to provide a
formidable defense and free up manpower to be used in offensive operations somewhere else.
Charles de Gaulle, a decorated and proven French military commander was against a defensive
mentality. He proposed potential war strategies against the Germans, and why the defensive
mentality should be abandoned. In a 1935 Parliament, the French War Minister struck blows
against de Gaulle s ideas by saying How could one think that we are still thinking about an
offensive when we have spent billions to establish a fortified barrier? Would we be mad enough to
advance beyond

Why I Want To Be Managed
I am born and raised in the capital of Sweden, Stockholm. A city renown not only for the tall,
blonde people who inhabit it, but also for the water that surrounds and flows through it. Central
Stockholm is made up of 14 islands which marks the start of the Stockholm archipelago, making it
impossible to avoid the beautiful, and somewhat windy, water front.
Apart from the big blue water bodies, green spaces abound. A whopping third of the city s area is
made up of green spaces, and many of the islands are more parks than urban areas.
Add a summer cottage on the countryside, most vacations spent tramping and skiing, and you have
the foundation for a young girl with a strong connection with the outdoors. An important piece of

The starting point was my years in high school learning to become a zoo keeper. In between

Working at a zoo with wild animals might sound like the dream job. But I wanted to get to the

The reality is that many places are just as bad including those semi rural areas where my Mother

viewed through a gendered lens, the people in Falls City Nebraska during 1993 as depicted in
this movie were no doubt unhappy. However, the unhappiness was not merely a function of
where they lived, the lack of opportunity and mobility, or even their unfortunate economic
circumstances. People can live happy lives while being burdened by all of the above. The
message of the movie, as I see it, was that gender stereotypes and prejudices can destroy many
people whose mental, emotional and physical framework doesn t fit the acceptable definitions
of male and female . In the case of those who are forced to repress their feelings and are somehow
able to play by the gender rules , I find it difficult to believe real happiness will be in the cards for

and appropriate behavior will live diminished lives that are less full, less interesting and far less

These constructs greatly enhance the native capabilities of the DBMS. The procedural languages
also support the ability to embed and use the results of SQL queries. The combination of the
programming constructs provided by the procedural language, and the data retrieval and
manipulation capabilities provided by the SQL engine, is powerful and useful. Database texts and
DBMS documentation commonly refers to the fusion of the procedural language and the
declarative SQL language as a whole within the DBMS.
Oracle s implementation is named Procedural Language/Structured Query Language, and is more
commonly referred to as PL/SQL, while SQL Server s implementation is named Transact‐SQL,
and is more commonly referred to as T‐SQL. SQL predates the procedural constructs in both
DBMS, and therefore documentation for both DBMS refer to the procedural language as an
extension to the SQL language. This idea can become confusing because database texts and
documentation also refer to the entire unit, for example PL/SQL and T‐SQL, as a
vendor‐specific extension to the SQL language. It is important for us to avoid this confusion by
recognizing that there are two distinct languages within a relational DBMS declarative and
procedural and that both are treated very differently within a DBMS in concept and in
implementation. In concept, we use the SQL

In both Antigone and Oedipus the King the city plays an important part with the majority of the

are revealed in the public domain, for example the suicide of Jocasta and blinding of Oedipus
(Oedipus the King, lines1364 1429 ) and the suicides of Antigone, Haemon and Eurydice (Antigone
lines 1312 В– 1373 and 1410 1412). This reinforces the importance of the city within the context of
the plays, as nothing personal can remain secret and private.
The city is represented by the chorus which comprises of Theban citizens in both plays. The chorus
enter the stage almost at the beginning of the plays (line 169) in Oedipus the King and line 117 in
Antigone) and do not leave until the very end of each play. Thus they witness most of the events
and revelations that happen. However their function within the context of the plays does differ.

Please excuse my late reply. I have been really busy with real life. I will give you the basics of

that only serious writers take on this role so please do not inquire if you are a serial profile maker

wanting to lose, they align with a powerful coven that too wants the wolf pack out of Dallas.
(The witches and vampires want them gone because the pack runs the city; not much goes on

Cultural Significance Of Cultural Culture Essay
The studies into culture have been on going and the importance of cultural significance in societies
has increased in recent years due to the changing dimensions of the world we live in. Globalization
itself has had a very profound effect on cross cultural interactions through progression in the fields
of communication and technology that allow the formation of virtual work teams, the elimination
of borders in trade, increased labour mobility and migration between countries. While theorists over
the years have tried to define culture, it is important to note that cultural experts themselves have
stressed the difficulty of defining the concept without touching into different ideas and theories that
contradict each other (Browaeys and Price, 2008). Hofstede (2001) defines culture as the collective
programming of the mind that distinguishes the members of one group or category of people from
another . In his book International Management (2003), Tayeb adds to the literature defining culture
as historically evolved values, attitudes and meanings that are learned and shared by the members
of community and which influence their material and non material way of life . Some of the most
commonly identified elements of culture are values, attitudes, rituals and shared meanings that are
developed by individuals over the course of their lives through education, regional and national
influences (Hofsede et al, 1991; Schwartz, 1992; Trompenaars and Hampden Turner, 1997). Having

Cloning as Solution to Food Shortages and Needs for New...
With food shortages and needs for new medicine, research, and cures, it s hard to think that there
could ever be a solution to these issues. Cloning could be one of the many solutions to the
problems that are afflicting the world as we know it. But that has many people wondering what
exactly cloning is, and, more importantly why people do it. Knowing what cloningis, why people do
it, and other opinions and feelings about cloning could help us solve these issues. To clone
means to create a genetic copy of another organism. Cloning depends on there being two cells,
one of a female s egg, and one from an adult that is intended to be cloned. (Wilmut) There are also
a variety of specific types of cloning, but two main general types: reproductive and non
reproductive, also called nuclear transplantation or therapeutic cloning. ( Cloning ) Nuclear
transplantation creates clones in a different way than reproductive cloning does. Nuclear
transplantation starts when the cell is taken from the adult, which contains the genome of the
organism that is wanted to be cloned. (Cloning: Frequently) An egg is then taken from a female,
the nucleus removed, and the cell from the adult is placed into the female s egg. These two eggs
are fused together with an electric current. (Weiss) This causes the egg s DNA to become that of
the subject s egg. (Cloning: Frequently) The egg is then placed into a test tube and allowed to split
there before being placed into the surrogate. ( Cloning )

In the event that a fire does start, suppression activities would be carried out faster and more
effectively than those areas that have gone without treatment. Proof of this can be found within a
study that was done after the 2002 Biscuit Fire that happened within the Kalmiopsis Wilderness in
Southern Oregon. Scientists on a research team studied the damage of the fire in areas that had
previously been treated by having ground and ladder fuels removed via thinning/cutting and
prescribed underburning. These areas showed the least tree mortality of any other areas within the

apart by scientific evidence. However, some ideas are crafted so precisely and detailed; they are
accepted as fact by millions of people. These alternatives to accepted history are known as
Conspiracy Theories, and the people who create them are of a special breed. It is difficult to
imagine having the time and passion to craft an alternative reason behind many of the world s

Before the discussion if furthered, it is important to lay down the basics of who really is a
conspiracy theorist. By Conspiracy Theorist , it is meant to reference a person who has spent at
least ten years of their life to the ideas which counter those of larger accepted organizations (ex:
Government). These persons must have published at least two books about their topics and must
have some sort of mass following and audience. According to PBS, a Conspiracy Theorist is:
someone who postulates on the existence of secret agreements between two or more people or
government to perform unlawful acts. (PBS: Strange Days) that definition is what will be used in

the limited resources and time constraints I cannot claim that the stated characteristics are the
only factors of a conspiracy theorists. There are many factors that influence one to become

A Very Brief Look at Worl War II
World War II started on September 1, 1939, when Germany invaded Poland. France and Great
Britain declared war on Germany September 3rd. After France and Great Britain declared war on
Germany they mobilized their armies and stationed their troops. Waiting for Germany to attack,
but they never did. This eventually became known as the Phony War. By the end of May in
1940 the Germans had trapped all of the allied forces around a northern French city. Allies went
to the beaches at Dunkirk because they were outnumbered, and outgunned. Great Britain set out
to rescue the army, by sending about 850 ships across the English channel to Dunkirk. They sent
many other things in the rescue effort. After Dunkirk resistance in France started to collapse,
and by June 14, the Germans took Paris. French leaders surrendered on June 22, 1940. During
the summer of 1940 Germany s air force started bombing Great Britain. The Germans started by
attacking British airfields and aircraft factories. On September 7, 1940 the Germans started
focusing more on the cities so that they could break British morale. The Battle of Britain
stopped on May 10, 1941 because Hitler decided to call off his attacks and focus on the
Mediterranean and Eastern Europe. The allies learned from the Battle of Britain that Hitler s
attacks could be avoided. Italy was neutral at the beginning of the war, and Hitler s partner

Sophocles Oedipus The King
The renowned Greek philosopher, Aristotle, is widely known for his theories in mathematics,
physics, and politics. However, he is also known for establishing ideas in the field of literature,
such as the concept of tragedy and the theory of the importance of scenes of recognition and
reversal. This ancient concept and theory are still highly discussed and used to analyze numerous
pieces of literature to this day. One piece that could be considered as an ideal tragedy is the play
Oedipusthe King written by Sophocles. In this play, Sophocles utilizes the concept of tragedy as
well the theory of the importance of scenes of recognition and reversal to create a setting, tone, and
mood throughout the play. Oedipus, the mythical king of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of the use of fear to bring emotion to the reader in Oedipus the King is when the city
of Thebes is suffering from a plague that destroys fields of crops as well as the fertility of its
woman. A blight is on the fruitful plants of the earth, a blight is on the cattle in the fields, a
blight is on our women that no children are born to them; a God that carries fire, a deadly
pestilence, is on our town (Sophocles 26 30). At the beginning of the play when Oedipus is
asking the people of Thebes why they are sitting in front of his palace, a Priest explains that
there is a plague going on in the city and they want an end to it. It is later known that the plague
will never end until the murderer of Laius, the king of Thebes before Oedipus, is found. Oedipus
vows to find the murderer, which eventually leads to him finding out he was the one who killed his
father and married his own mother, thus fulfilling his fate. This extracts pity from the reader, for all
the character tried their hardest to run from the prophecy but in the end, it still catches them. Lastly,
tragedy can be seen throughout the entire play, as readers see the steady downfall of a hero, who
was heavily influenced by his hubris or pride. Aristotle s ideal tragic hero is one the must exceed
the average man intellectually, physically and mentally. Oedipus not only travels throughout the
city defeating numerous foes, but eventually becomes the king of Thebes. Not only that, according

Analysis Of Maya s The Maya
Maya Secrets Locked in Stone
Maya scholars debated for decades over the fate of the Maya. Recent evidence from an unlikely
source, points a sustained drought in the 9th and 10th Centuries.
Stalagmites and Stone Carvings Offer Clues on the Collapse of the Maya Civilization
Circa 900 A.D., the Maya world fell apart. How could an ancient Meso
American civilization flourish for hundreds of years only to fade into the forest? That riddle has
perplexed scholars ever since 19th century explorers
John Stephens and Frederick Catherwood first stumbled upon moldering ruins to discover lost
cities, vine covered temples and an infrastructure worthy of a small kingdom.
Although the full extent of what befell Maya cities like Tikal and Copan, on the Yucatan Peten
Peninsula in present day Mexico and Central
America, remains a mystery. Research points to a change in long term weather patterns likely
brought about their decline. Part of a growing body of evidence, popularized by academics, like
Jared Diamond, that a prolonged drought preceded by abundant rainfall had turned prosperous
Maya city states into desolate ghost towns.
A Cave Yield s Clues
Recent studies have shed new light on this phenomenon. According to a paper published in
Science magazine, between 820 and 870 A.D., the Maya received 40 percent less rainfall than in
prior decades. Scientists surmise that the lack of rainfall tore at the social fabric of the Maya
civilization. The findings are based on the

A Comparison of the Functionalist View with the Marxist View Sociologists may disagree in their
interpretation of how society works. Some have focused on what keeps society together; others
have focused on what divides society. Over the years the two major paradigms have dominated
sociology these are functionalism and the conflict theory better know as Marxism. Both the
Marxism view and the functionalist view have their own totally different point of view. Haralambos

They believe that a social system is a functional unity whereby all the parts of the system work

marked. Marxism stresses that the motive force for society and social change is conflict. Marx
stresses that the links which bind sectors of society are economic and linked to the modes of
production. Social conflict is created by the differing interests of competing social groupings,
known as classes. A writer in the Marxist tradition would emphasize that the links between
groupings within society are very weak and marked by very diverse interests of each particular
group. Marxists argue that the functionalist view is an illusion to think of modern society as one
which is in a continuous state of harmony. On the contrary, every society is characterized by
continuous conflict. There exists a struggle between the various groups and classes of society. The
struggle for power, prestigue and economics goods gives rise to competition between the various
sectors of society. Therefore, what we consider as society is the outcome of this continuous social
conflict. Functionalists as opposed to Marxists dispute that social equilibrium is achieved, most
importantly, through the socialization of members of the society into the basic values

Application And Supporting Student Learning
Standard 1: Engaging and Supporting All Students in Learning:
Engaging and supporting student learning has developed into an area of strength for me. What I
have witnessed first hand is that by moving through the general education curriculum you can
embed skills predicated on each student s current level of instruction. You use the general education
curriculum as a backdrop and then adapt and modify the curriculum to suit each student s needs. It
sounds like it s not possible when you actually hear it in a credential program. It s not until you
actually start becoming familiar with each student and their needs that it becomes clearer as to
what to do. For example, we did a series of lessons about integers which is actually a sixth ... Show

I often rewarded students with tokens for going above and beyond in helping their classmates. I
want to inspire them to be not just good students, but even better people!
The impetus for this realization came about as the subject of SBAC and Cal. Alt. testing was
broached in a staff meeting in the winter. We were given booklets that contained questions that
were old or similar questions to those that had appeared before on the test. I used these booklets
as a planner for my winter/spring instruction guide. I went through the booklets with the class
doing the problems. As we approached each problem, if it was a subject we had not yet covered
or discussed, I would break it down and build a lesson around it. It was quite beneficial as we
were now working on things that they would ultimately see on their respective tests. They were
doing exactly what their general education peers were doing. The difference being that rather than
glancing over the material, I was using the material as a base and then adapting and modifying it
based on each student s needs.
This was really helpful as when each of the students took their respective tests, they had a fighting
chance. I administered the Cal. Alt. to some of my class, and while they didn t get all the answers
correct, they got quite a few right. There was nothing more rewarding than seeing questions arise on
a standardized test that you know your students have at least seen before and

African Americans During The Nineteenth Century
Lynchings were a real threat to African Americans in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
They created a lot of fear in the African American community especially in this time period.
Between 1882 and 1969, 4,743 people lynchings occurred. In 1882, African Americans accounted
for forty six percent of lynchings. Yet from 1900 to 1910, African Americans represented eighty

In order for the states to get readmitted to the Union, they needed to agree to observe the fourteenth

There were some means that were legal at the time which were used to keep blacks from taking

Being Bullied And Having No Recollection Essay
The Third Grade: Being bullied and having no recollection Introduction There comes a point in

application of animals, and a theme questioning if humans can coexist with nature to bring us
closer to our main character and her internal dilemma throughout the story. In the story, colors are
used not only to add detail to the forest and world, but are also used to pour symbolism into
standard objects. When a moving squirrel is described as red amongst dark branches and the green
leaves, we can imagine both the actual scene and metaphorical representation of our heroine,
Sylvia, rushing across her forest. One of the big examples of color occurs before the

growth and development. They could, however, be a sign of a behavioral issue, anxiety, or other
physiological issues. When it comes to child sleep disorders, here is a list of what parents need to
know: Look for obvious signs that your child isn t sleeping enough. The symptoms include
excessive yawning, drooping eyelids, fatigue, and attention deficit. These signs all indicate that
your child is not sleeping well due to either physiological or anxiety problems.... Show more content

guide you in seeking treatment. Here are a few of the most common child sleep disorders:
Pediatric obstructive sleep apnea. This occurs when the child s throat relaxes to the point of
closing, causing them to stop breathing for a period of a few seconds. Snoring is a common
problem associated with this condition. Insomnia. Children can have sleep onset association type
childhood insomnia, in which the child awakens frequently and for long periods during the night
and may need the parent s assistance to go back to sleep, or limit setting type childhood insomnia,
in which the child may refuse to go to bed and greatly delay returning to sleep when awoken.
Restless Leg Syndrome. This syndrome is characterized by a twitching or tingling in the leg
muscles while lying down. A child may move excessively at night to lessen the annoyance because
movement is often the only way to relieve the unpleasant sensation.

Cognitive Neuropsychology Essay
The connection between the structure of the brain, cognitive functioning and behaviour is the field
subject of neuropsychology, which link disciplines such as experimental psychology and neurology
to try and understand how perception, emotion and behaviour are related to the brain. Cognitive
neuropsychology aims to analyse the correlation between cognitive function of everyday life to
brainstructure and the clinical effect of brain damage on cognitive impairment (Caramazza
Coltheart, 2006). Born in late 1950s, cognitive neuropsychology undergone a series of
transformation passing from a generalised approach to cognitive function to a localised approach,
which keep influencing the way researchers assess brain injury todays. The localisation... Show

However, the origins of this malformation were not investigated and it was not possible to
demonstrate that the patient was either born with it or if it developed later on.
Hence the importance of Wernicke s (1886) study, which strengthened Broca s (1866) findings. His
research on a stroke patient in 1873, found that although the patient did not present any lesion on
his speech and hearing function, he did not understand what was read to him or what was said
(Thompson et al., 2015). Indeed, Wernicke s found that his patient had an injury in the posterior of
his first temporal gyrus in the left hemisphere of the brain. Wernicke with Broca, afterwards started
to study language function in the brain by observing patience with determinate brain injury.
Most recently thanks a case where the brain injury transformed the patient life was studied by

Environmental Effects Of Organic Pollution And Its Effects...
Organic pollutants normally originate from numerous human activities which include
manufacturing, managing storing, and disposal of chemicals. Industrial places are a contributor of
the contaminations that besiege our environment and this does not stop there as the oil refineries
on their own in some countries cause unquantifiable damages to their land and water bodies.
Agricultural activities which involve use of pesticides and insecticide also contribute, not to talk of
households generally.
THE CHEMICAL INDUSTRY
This is another instance within the feel, commonly due to the fact their waste is known to pollute
waste streams. In real sense, the waste discharge from chemical industry at the moment are
adequately managed and treated earlier than being launched into the environment. There were no
facilities to effect this treatment in the past and so there is a considerable level of damages which
has already struck the water bodies due to this waste disposal by industries. Even though efforts
have commenced to beat to the barest minimum this sort of pollutants, its impact continues have
not totally vanished.
HOUSEHOLD CHEMICALS
There are release of substances which are products of chemical organics that not only affects the
environment but takes decades for it to decompose. We use most of these products in our
environment and though not many know the harms it because they are largely disastrous to the
environment. There are massive campaigns against the use of polythene bags as well as pet bottles
because of the harms which their accumulation causes to the water bodies and animals in the sea.
Chemical substances which contaminate the environment would not out rightly present themselves
as contaminants because some are useful environ to man. This leads to the detergent we use in our
laundry, the constituent of this detergents are not only beneficial but they are also in turn return
devastating characteristics to land. An examination of the labels of a detergent will present to us
the ingredient which is typically unsafe chemical compounds.
TYPES OF ORGANIC POLLUTION

Non Greasy Pastes As Semisolid Dosage Form
Based on United State Pharmacopeia, pastes are defined as semisolid dosage forms that contain
one or more drug substances intended for topical application. (Pharmaceutical Dosage Form, 2009)
Pastes are intended for application to the skin, oral cavity, or mucous membranes. Pastes are
usually prepared from fats, fatty oils, petrolatum, paraffin, waxes, glycerin or water by mixing
homogeneously powdered drugwith the foregoing materials as bases. (General Requirements for
Pharmaceutical Preparation) There are two classes of paste which are fatty pastes and non greasy
pastes which is made from single phase aqueous gel.
Although the preparations of pastes are similar to ointment, there are still having differences
between paste and ointment. Compared to ointments and gels, pastes contain a high proportion of
finely powdered medicaments. Pastes are generally composed of ointment bases that contain a high
concentration (frequently 50%w/w) of dispersed drug. Hence, the viscosity of pastes is higher than
that of pharmaceutical ointment. The base for pastes may be anhydrous (liquid or soft paraffin) or
water soluble (glycerol or a mucilage). (Prashant, 2010)
Furthermore, pastes take some advantages over the ointments. Pastes are more often used for
protective action compared to ointments. This is because pastes ordinarily do not flow at body
temperature so it can serve as protective coatings. Fatty pastes that have a high proportion of
hydrophilic solids are less greasy and more

Under Hitler s leadership and racially motivated ideology, the Nazi regime was responsible for
the genocide of at least 5.5 million Jews hitler shot himself and his fam,ily as britain marched on
berlin After World War I, Hitler returned to Munich.[72] With no formal education or career
prospects t the time of Hitler s release from prison, politics in Germany had become less
combative and the economy had improved, limiting Hitler s opportunities for political agitation.
The Great Depression provided a political opportunity for Hitler. Germans were ambivalent to the
parliamentary republic, which faced strong challenges from right and left wing extremists. The
moderate political parties were increasingly unable to stem the tide of extremism, and the German
referendum of 1929 helped to elevate Nazi ideology.[120] The elections of September 1930
resulted in the break up of a grand coalition and its replacement with a minority cabinet. Its leader,
chancellor Heinrich BrГјning of the Centre Party, governed through emergency decrees from
President Paul von Hindenburg. Governance by decree would become the new norm and paved the
way for authoritarian forms of government.[121] The NSDAP rose from obscurity to win 18.3 per
cent of the vote and 107 parliamentary seats in the 1930 election, becoming the second largest party
in parliament.[122]

The Growth Of Early Los Angeles
To tell the story of the growth of early Los Angeles it is necessary to visit the culturally significant
union station in old downtown on Alameda street. The buildings owes it begging to the American
phenomenon of the railroad, the institution that allowed for American expansion into the modern
era and more specifically the growth of the west coast metropolis of Los Angelesthat prior was just
a small Spanish town. Just across the street from the Avila adobe, one of the first and oldest existing
Spanish settlements in L.A., lays Union station, a building that holds on to the city s Spanish roots
through Spanish mission style architecture. At the time of its erection, the building not only told
the story of the small Spanish town that Los Angeles was but also hinted at the industrial
metropolis that Los Angeles would be through the art decolanguage. Through the fine usage and
mixture of elements at a macro and micro scale, Union Station successfully mixes the two
languages of Art Deco modern and Spanish mission style to form a landmark that is a remnant of a
significant transitional period in LA s history. Just like many other U.S cities during the early 20th
century los angles experienced a period of unprecedented industrial growth and population increase
that followed. Furthermore there was the need for a transportation hub that would serve as a
common stop for vital transcontinental rail lines that supported the city s industry, which included

Industrialization Of The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution was a revolution in every sense of the word, as it altered almost every
aspect of live in the nineteenth century including technology, government, communication,
environment and eventually society as a whole.1 Although industrialisation created many positives
for modern society, for people in Britain up to the end of the nineteenth century it had many
significantly negative consequences. With the long term advances made for society came the then
current development of overcrowding cities abundant with pollution, health problems and poor
living conditions for the working class. These poor conditions continued into the work place with
young children exploited as workers as young as the age of four or five.2 There were consequences
of the Industrial Revolutionfor people outside of the core of Britain. India, being the periphery in
the model were exploited for their raw materials which were exported to Britain.
Through research the primary interpretation of the industrialisation has been positive, with some
light now being put upon some of the negative aspects of the industrial revolution, through sources
which were obtained in those times. The British Child Labour Inquiry (as cited in Stearns, Gosch,
Grieshaber and Belzer, 2012, pp. 121 122) acts as one of these primary sources. It was an inquiry
conducted on Abraham Whitehead on the conditions for British children who were forced to work
in wool mills. This interview with Whitehead, a clothier

Essay About Marines
The 1985 to 1995 where America has had three presidents, and we have had many hardships as a
nation. There are some cool events about this decade. Some of the places I found to have some
cool events are America, Japan, and Italy. There is a corporation, I found interesting in the decade,
and that was the Marines. My interviewee Edward, who likes to go by Ed or Eddy, is a 34 year old
man. He is my boss at Albertsons. I picked him to be my interviewee because he has a strong work
ethic, has been a marine, has maintained two jobs all of his career, and he is just a wonderful
person to be around.
America. What a wonderful country. The kids in the 1980 s and 1990 s were just having a field

Essay Symposium Cave Allegory
Starting at 210a of The Symposium, Diotima speaks with Socrates about reaching the final vision
of the mysteries. She starts talking about a young boy who is starting to be attracted to beautiful
bodies. He first loves one body; and then, realizing that all bodies are relatively alike, he begins to
love all beautiful bodies. After that, he comes to appreciate the beauty of minds, not caring
anymore about physical attraction. After all stages, the boy will ultimately come to loving beauty
itself and all beautiful things. This gradual climb to the final vision is similar to the climb out of
the cave in Platos Allegory of the Cave. In the Allegory of the Cave, the chained down prisoners are
limited with their perception on reality. At... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to The Symposium, the cave allegory also has a reference to a Form. At the last stage of
the prisoner s climb to the top of the cave, he sees the sun and observes the Form of Good. Since
he was recently unaware of the Form of Good, he has reached a higher understanding, just like the
boy from The Symposium. These two pieces written by Plato also have two characters, Socrates
and the prisoners, who are similar. After returning to the cave, the prisoner would be reentering a
world of darkness, having to talk to all the unreleased prisoners. He would live with the other
prisoners, being able to see better than all of the rest. Because of his different perspective of
reality and new knowledge, he would assume the position of the leader of the group and take
care of the prisoners. Socrates does this exact thing in The Symposium. He seems to be the most
enlightened one in the group and appears to be the puppet by which Plato speaks about his own
views. Alcibiades speaks about how he looked up to and loved Socrates during his speech
starting at 212c. Socrates acts as the mentor and leader in The Symposium, just as a prisoner
would be if he were to leave the cave and become enlightened. Although there are many
dissimilarities in these two pieces written by Plato, there are lots of similarities. It is very
surprising to see as many parallels between the two works, even though they have the same author.
To start, Diotima s speech had the

The Rights Of Guantanamo Bay
Guantanamo Bay was attained by Theodore Roosevelt in 1903, when he signed an agreement with
the Cuban government leasing the land in return for 2,000 gold coins a year. For years after the
agreement was signed, Guantanamo Bay was used as a naval base, as well as to spy on Communist
Cuba in the 1930 s. In November of 1991, an overthrow of the Haitian government left thousands of
Haitians fleeing dictatorship. The Bush Administration announced that it would erect a tent shelter
in order to house thousands of these Haitian refugees in Guantanamo Bay. This shelter was
surrounded by barbed wire fences and guarded by armed U.S troops. This was the first step in the
transformation of Guantanamo Bay into the military controlled, high security... Show more content

Since these photos were released, two differing sides regarding Guantanamo Bay have emerged.
Some find it to be a place where brutality and illegality are rampant; and some find it to be a
necessary evil in order to protect the wellbeing of America. Currently, a military controlled prison
still resides in Guantanamo Bay housing nearly 200 individuals; and the debate regarding the fate
of the operation continues (Dziedzic). Guantanamo Bay detention center is an international
embarrassment to our nation, and to our ideals. To this day, Guantanamo Bay is a legal black hole;
a place where United States policy does not adhere to the rule of law Senator Patrick Leahy. The
Supreme Court has ruled on several occasions that the Bush Administration acted unlawfully in
Guantanamo Bay, yet no action was pursued against these individuals. We cannot forget that the
Bush Administration stripped detainees of basic rights that are given to any individual on
American soil. This is why we must enact a Truth Commission to investigate the actions of the
Bush Administration in Guantanamo Bay; as there is reason to believe that far more violations
took place in Guantanamo Bay then we currently know of. This Truth Commission will not look to
press legal charges on any individual, but merely seek answers. I believe that the

Education And The International Pisa Exam
Historically, American students fall behind the rest of the developed world in the subjects of
reading, math, and science within schools (Ripley, 2013). In assessing our inability to do as well
as the top countries on the international PISA exam, people have tried to place the blame on a
specific area and try to fix that one area in hopes of radically altering the results. Some want to
argue that it is bad schools which form bad neighborhoods due to the schools inability to produce
strong students (Chilcott, 2010). Others see the fault in the neighborhoods and families within the
neighborhoods, pointing out that it is the situations that these families find themselves in that
makes it impossible to school their children (Tough, 2012). While the true problem does not
completely conform to one idea listed above, acknowledging a student s experiences ought to be
addressed in schools to ensure that students not only succeed in the present, but also in the future.
Life for a childstarts before the first time they step into a school building. In fact, by the time a
child from a lower socio economic household makes it into school, they have likely suffered from
some of the stresses associated with chronic poverty such as hunger and an imperfect household
(Tough, 2012). Teachers who are unaware of this then expect them to act like the stereotypical
student. Meanwhile, the struggles and trauma that child experiences continue. Every day the
student comes in with a new set of

  • 2. Comparing Two Works Of Art That Featured The God Dionysos I chose to compare and contrast two works of art that featured the god Dionysos. Dionysos was a god of celebration and wine, promoting both the intoxicating power of wine and its social benefits for bringing people together. He was an advocate of peace and a promoter of peaceful civilization. Both The Hope Dionysos and the Triumph of Dionysos and the Seasons Sarcophagus represent why Dionysos was such an important and celebrated figurein mythology, which is why I chose to analyze two works of art that centered on him. My first impression of each piece was of Dionysos as a peaceful, benevolent and joyful figure. I was struck by the calm peacefulness he embodied in The Hope Dionysos and the happiness he shared on the Triumph of Dionysos and the Seasons Sarcophagus. Though there are many elements to compare and contrast, my analysis will show that both pieces are tributes and representations of Dionysos meaning and purpose in Roman art. The Hope Dionysos, displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Greek and Roman Art gallery, depicts Dionysos standing and leaning with one arm on a smaller female figure that is believed to Spes, the personification of hope. He is shown without his usual attributes of a drinking cup or a pinecone topped staff, and both the handat his side and the hand resting on Spes and reaching out towards the viewer are empty. Spes, however, holds what appears to be a lotus flower in her hand. This image, with the personification of hope, could have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Pros And Cons Of Exclusionary Rule SUPPORT FOR THE EXCLUSIONARY RULE First, supporters for the continued use of the exclusionary rule maintain that its ability to protect a citizen from unreasonable search and seizures should not be neglected. By protecting individuals from unreasonable search and seizures, this law serves to uphold a citizen s privacy and basic constitutional rights. For example, if a law enforcement officer enters a house to search for a suspect without a warrant, any evidence obtained through that search which does not have to do with that particular crime/suspect may not be used in court. Additionally, they claim that this rule serves as a deterrent against policemisconduct. Since this rule doesn t allow for illegally obtained evidence to be used in court, they believe that law enforcement officials will be discouraged from conducting unreasonable search and seizures because the evidence obtained from these searches would not be able to be used in court. Without the exclusionary rule, law enforcement officials, as well as anyone else, could easily manufacture false evidence or use illegally obtained evidence to be submitted in court. This kind of corruptive police behavior could potentially result in innocent victims being locked away. While others claim, that by not excluding this illegally obtained evidence, the court is participating in illegal activity which may result in the integrity of our justice system to be compromised. ARGUMENTS AGAINST THE EXCLUSIONARY RULE Those against ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Mass Media And Its Effect On Society Mass Media are organizations in our society. The medium industries provide information and entertainment, but mass media also can affect political, social, and cultural institutions. Mediums such as radio, newspapers, and television all reflect and affect American society. However, the main one that I am going to discuss is Radio. Radio is more effective in mass media as compared to the other mediums. The way radio was back then is way different from what it is in society today, it has changed over time. People believe that radio is one of the dying mediums, but that s false. Radio has saved plenty of lives through communication. Radio has been the first device to allow for mass communication. It changed the pace at which information was exchanged. Radio broadcasts that exist in society today didn t began until after World War I. Radio was used during the war to communicate. But, the federal government had ordered all professionals off the air taking control over all stations. Back in 1920, KDKA was licensed as the nation s first commercial broadcast in the United States. The audience began to expand very quickly because advertisers began to see how well the broadcast was doing. In addition, seeing that the audience was expanding they started to think about how they would make money. So, AT T radio broadcast station (WEAF) became the first paid commercial, they began selling limited advertisement time to sponsors. This led to success. Radio back then was and still is a ... • 6. Essay On Single American Food Diet is a huge concern for many people today who are either trying to control a preventable disease or those people who are trying to lose the excess weight that they are carrying around with them. Not only has our diet as Americans been steadily getting worse but as our population has risen there have been very few attempts to counter the negative effects that over processing our food has done. Every Single American, who has eaten the hot lunches at school remembers and has a first hand knowledge of the taste of preservatives and manufactured flavor of the food they ate during their formative years attending Elementary through High School. To get an understanding of our diet we need to see the what has been in front of our faces for generations. In fact at least 2 generations. The only generation in its entirety to to not see food that was processed and packaged for shelf life was that of our greatest generation... those people who fought and won World War II. Many of them were exposed to it during their time in the Military but up until then had probably grown most of their food themselves or, at the very least, had access to fresh, food sans preservatives. What was it about that time frame that has now caused the greatest lack of basic constituents that food has ever known? I will cover that in another article. You, like me have... However essential oils are a good way for vegetarians and vegans to supplement what they are lacking in their diets unless they grow all their food themselves, but I digress. • 7. The War Of The Concentration Camp And Extermination Camp... In November of 1944, John McCloy, the United States Assistant Secretary of War, responded by letter to John Pehle, United States Executive Director of the War Refugee Board, in opposition and briefly supported as to why the War Department of the United States was against and why it would not go through with the bombing operation of the concentration camp and extermination camp at Auschwitz Birkenau. In the brief McCloy laid out five specific reasons as to why the department would not be carried out the military plan at that point in time during the war. The five reasons that made up McCloy s argument were: first, Positive destruction of these camps would necessitate precision bombing, employing heavy or medium bombardment, or attack by low flying or dive bombing aircraft, preferably the latter. Second, the target is beyond the maximum range of medium bombardment, dive bombers and fighter bombers located in United Kingdom, France or Italy. Third, use of heavy bombardment from United Kingdom bases would necessitate a hazardous round trip flight unescorted of approximately 2,000 miles over enemy territory. Fourth, At the present critical stage of the war in Europe, our strategic air forces are engaged in the destruction of industrial target systems vital to the dwindling war potential of the enemy, from which they should not be diverted. The positive solution to this problem is the earliest possible victory over Germany, to which end we should exert our entire means. Fifth, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This book; like most historical fiction books; mixed actual events with fictional characters. I overall liked this book but was a bit disappointed when they mainly focused on characters rather than real events. The summary of the book is about a boy named Danny who lived with his Ma in New York City, but that all changed when Finn; a friend of Danny; fell off a balcony and got hurt. Danny s Ma then decided to move to Hawaii because she thought it was much safer there; Danny really wanted to get back to New York and Finn; he even thought about stowing away on a ship that traveled between Hawaii and California. • 9. Comparing Synoptic Gospels In Matthew, Mark, And Luke Synoptic Comparison Matthew, Mark, and Luke are the three books in the New Testament that have been titled the synoptic gospels. The three gospels differ in some dramatic ways, but have many similar stories and accounts of the life of Jesus. There have been disputes over the source and the relationship between the three gospels, but most scholars tend to agree that the gospel of Markwas written first, and the authors of Matthew and Luke used Mark as a source for their work. This Markan priority helps scholars to begin to examine the differences and similarities that appear across the synoptic gospels, and determine how and why many pericopes seem to vary and even contradict each other at times. An example of one of the passages that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Mark, Jesus time in his hometown of Nazareth abruptly ends when he decides to leave town and go to teach in other villages. Luke, however, tells us that Jesus interactions with the Nazarenes are not yet over. Jesus begins to tell the people how in the time of Elijah and Elisha there was a famine in the land and many people were suffering because of it, Gentiles and Jews alike. Elijah and Elisha, however, were sent by God not to the Jews and people of Israel, but to outsiders in other places. This was a form of punishment for the people of Israel for the rejection of God. Jesus pointed out the passage because he wanted to warn the Nazarenes of what might happen if they continue to reject his teachings. Another possibility is that Luke added this section to promote his social agenda of righting the situations of people that have been wronged and, more importantly, giving up money and possessions to the poor, outcasts and women. Jesus talks about how God decided to send the prophets to the outcasts in other regions rather than the Israelites, who had already received much favor from God in the past. The Nazarenes were offended at Jesus mention of God s inclusion of Gentiles by sending aid for them and not for the Jews, showing universalism. God blessed the people that were righteous and worthy of his aid, and the Jews were not happy that Jesus brought up God s sending of his prophets to Gentiles as opposed to Jews in the Old Testament. This addition by Luke explains why the Nazarenes became so upset at what Jesus was telling them. Jesus used these examples as a way of previewing that his mission was to reach everyone, not just Jews. The addition of these examples shows how Luke wanted to highlight his theme of universalism and including everyone who is willing to follow. Luke s major themes of righting social wrongs and giving up comforting possessions are also supported through the addition of this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Gulf Oil Synthesis Essay Oil has been a coveted resource since the early twentieth century. Global oil powers are a major component of the world economy. For this reason predominant oil producers have experienced numerous power struggles and violent outbreaks over the years. Due to the newfound independence of many Middle Eastern countries in the 1960s, many rich oil fields were accessed for the first time, providing new competitors for the hegemonic American Seven Sisters. Tensions rose between the United Statesand many Middle Eastern countries not only as a result of competition, but also due to several oil related wars that broke out in the region. In response, Saudi Arabia led an embargo of the United States that restricted oil exports and raising prices. These turn of events was where OPEC first demonstrated its power. The embargo neglected America s need of imported oil from OPEC, which forced domestic production to intensify. With no incoming oil imports, America focused on lowering oil prices for their citizens, (See appendix IV) as well as their dependency on foreign commodities. The House of Representatives passed a bill that demanded that no one person could export American crude oil for the next one hundred and eighty days. The Arab Embargo quadrupled American oil prices and raised retail gas prices by forty percent. This was crucial for the survival of his men, because they needed a figurehead to rely on, someone they knew was going to get them out of there alive. For my first point, Shackleton was very intellectual in the way that he had held his men s personal belongings. Shackleton knew that if they were to go on the on land expedition, his men couldn t bring all of their belongings, so he set a 2lb weight limit on all of his staff. Ernest also knew that the only chance they had of making it out alive was to launch the three boats and try to make way for Elephant Island. He also knew that the boats weighed 700lbs each, and that all their personal belongings would be going in those. For the men to carry the boats plus all the personal belongings of his men, it would have been unbearable. Shackleton also knew that belongings would have no use to he, or his men for the trip. Gold coins would be useless if he was to get out of the Antarctic alive. Even items of sentimental value would be thrown away, but it was the only way for the men to get out alive. Secondly, Shackleton ordered the banjo be brought along the on land trip. At first this may have seemed like a stupid idea, it would just be more weight to carry along. However, not content with northern and eastern expansion, Adolf Hitler wanted to control the western countries in Europe. Hitler had long been obsessed with attacking and controlling France. The French knew what kind of war they expected to fight. They also expected, and wanted to fight the Nazis in Belgium, not on French soil.3 This defensive strategy resulted in military commanders convincing politicians to construct fortifications across France s borders. These 140 kilometers of fortifications built from 1930 1937 were known as the Maginot Line. While not a fully connected wall of fortifications, they varied in strength and assets. The strongest, most heavily fortified area of the Maginot line stretched from France s border with Switzerland and Germany. The Luxembourg and a very small portion of the Belgium border had smaller, less concentrated defense array. The Maginot Line structures were never intended to be similar to the Great Wall of China. The true purpose was to provide a formidable defense and free up manpower to be used in offensive operations somewhere else. Charles de Gaulle, a decorated and proven French military commander was against a defensive mentality. He proposed potential war strategies against the Germans, and why the defensive mentality should be abandoned. • 22. Cultural Significance Of Cultural Culture Essay The studies into culture have been on going and the importance of cultural significance in societies has increased in recent years due to the changing dimensions of the world we live in. Globalization itself has had a very profound effect on cross cultural interactions through progression in the fields of communication and technology that allow the formation of virtual work teams, the elimination of borders in trade, increased labour mobility and migration between countries. While theorists over the years have tried to define culture, it is important to note that cultural experts themselves have stressed the difficulty of defining the concept without touching into different ideas and theories that contradict each other (Browaeys and Price, 2008). Hofstede (2001) defines culture as the collective programming of the mind that distinguishes the members of one group or category of people from another . In his book International Management (2003), Tayeb adds to the literature defining culture as historically evolved values, attitudes and meanings that are learned and shared by the members of community and which influence their material and non material way of life . Some of the most commonly identified elements of culture are values, attitudes, rituals and shared meanings that are developed by individuals over the course of their lives through education, regional and national influences (Hofsede et al, 1991; Schwartz, 1992; Trompenaars and Hampden Turner, 1997). With food shortages and needs for new medicine, research, and cures, it s hard to think that there could ever be a solution to these issues. But that has many people wondering what exactly cloning is, and, more importantly why people do it. Knowing what cloningis, why people do it, and other opinions and feelings about cloning could help us solve these issues. To clone means to create a genetic copy of another organism. Cloning depends on there being two cells, one of a female s egg, and one from an adult that is intended to be cloned. (Wilmut) There are also a variety of specific types of cloning, but two main general types: reproductive and non reproductive, also called nuclear transplantation or therapeutic cloning. ( Cloning ) Nuclear transplantation creates clones in a different way than reproductive cloning does. Nuclear transplantation starts when the cell is taken from the adult, which contains the genome of the organism that is wanted to be cloned. (Cloning: Frequently) An egg is then taken from a female, the nucleus removed, and the cell from the adult is placed into the female s egg. These two eggs are fused together with an electric current. A blight is on the fruitful plants of the earth, a blight is on the cattle in the fields, a blight is on our women that no children are born to them; a God that carries fire, a deadly pestilence, is on our town (Sophocles 26 30). At the beginning of the play when Oedipus is asking the people of Thebes why they are sitting in front of his palace, a Priest explains that there is a plague going on in the city and they want an end to it. Social conflict is created by the differing interests of competing social groupings, known as classes. A writer in the Marxist tradition would emphasize that the links between groupings within society are very weak and marked by very diverse interests of each particular group. Marxists argue that the functionalist view is an illusion to think of modern society as one which is in a continuous state of harmony. On the contrary, every society is characterized by continuous conflict. There exists a struggle between the various groups and classes of society. Application And Supporting Student Learning Standard 1: Engaging and Supporting All Students in Learning: Engaging and supporting student learning has developed into an area of strength for me. What I have witnessed first hand is that by moving through the general education curriculum you can embed skills predicated on each student s current level of instruction. You use the general education curriculum as a backdrop and then adapt and modify the curriculum to suit each student s needs. It sounds like it s not possible when you actually hear it in a credential program. It s not until you actually start becoming familiar with each student and their needs that it becomes clearer as to what to do. I often rewarded students with tokens for going above and beyond in helping their classmates. I want to inspire them to be not just good students, but even better people! The impetus for this realization came about as the subject of SBAC and Cal. Alt. testing was broached in a staff meeting in the winter. We were given booklets that contained questions that were old or similar questions to those that had appeared before on the test. I used these booklets as a planner for my winter/spring instruction guide. I went through the booklets with the class doing the problems. As we approached each problem, if it was a subject we had not yet covered or discussed, I would break it down and build a lesson around it. It was quite beneficial as we were now working on things that they would ultimately see on their respective tests. They were doing exactly what their general education peers were doing. The difference being that rather than glancing over the material, I was using the material as a base and then adapting and modifying it based on each student s needs. This was really helpful as when each of the students took their respective tests, they had a fighting chance. I administered the Cal. Alt. to some of my class, and while they didn t get all the answers correct, they got quite a few right. There was nothing more rewarding than seeing questions arise on a standardized test that you know your students have at least seen before and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Teachers who are unaware of this then expect them to act like the stereotypical student. Meanwhile, the struggles and trauma that child experiences continue.
