 Earth probiotics are a project
which has been established with
the main purpose of diverting
most food waste in the landfill.
 This project uses “bokashi”, which
is a Japanese term for organic
fermented matter. Bokashi is
what makes it easier for the food
waste to be recycled into soil
food.
 The term Earth probiotic also
refers to all beneficial
microorganisms (including the
food waste) which allows its
recycling to solid food.
 Bokashi is a Japanese term used to describe
organic fermented matter. This allows
turning of food waste into soil food.
 It is a wheat bran which is mixed with
probiotic bacteria, fungi, and yeast through
inoculation.
 Was developed in 1980s in Japan to manage
food waste
 This uses fermentation to breakdown food
waste.
 This is a crucial process in recycling the food
waste into soil food.
 This process involves pre-digestion of food
waste so it can be quickly or easily
composted. Aside from this, it also stops the
rotting process of food waste.
 It also allows the release of amino acids
which causes faster nutrient uptake by plants.
 The process of fermentation is possible
through the inhibition of the release of CO2
emissions. So, the food waste does not rot.
 There will be a need for the use of anaerobic digestive
food waste such as cooked or uncooked meat, onions,
garlic, seafood, and dairy. Then, these will be layered with
bokashi, wherein the process of fermentation happens.
 After that, the container bin will be closed for about two
weeks to allow completion of fermentation.
 When fermentation is completed, the food waste, stable
and non-rotting, can now be safely composted, trenched,
or fed to the worms.
 When wastes are segregated from each other,
for example wet-waste and dry-wastes, there
will be an increase in the recyclable volumes
by over 30%. This means that through this the
food-waste is not only transformed into
resource but also reduction of waste volume
in the landfill is done. Therefore, decreasing
landfill loads.
 Decrease the greenhouse gas emissions of
CO2e
 Improves the health of soil
 Provides improvement in gardening and
agriculture through the enhancement of
plant growth.
 Eliminate unpleasant odor in kitchens and the
environment.
 Aid in the control fly, roach and rodent
infestions.
 Most of the organisms contained in the
probiotic products nowadays are actually
Soil-Based Organisms (SBO).
 Contained in a cultured soil which has been
composting for a million years are varieties of
microorganisms that are beneficial to the
human body.
 The reason why most soil based organisms
are used in the production of probiotic
products is because of the thousands of
strains that they contain.
 These strains contained in the soil based
organisms are thought to be powerful in
replenishing the good bacteria supply in the
intestines, especially after the use of
antibiotic treatment.
 Probacto is the best probiotic that I have
ever run into. They use multiple strains
and they are spore forming so they can
last while not refrigerated. They do not
use cheap bacteria, but expensive ones
such as B. Subtilis.
 Probacto also contains prebiotics to help
stimulate the growth of beneficial
bacteria in your gut.
 Probacto contains digestive enzymes to
assist in your digestion.
 Probacto is enteric coated and made to be
slow release so it will release in your gut
gradually.
 Probiotics have indeed do provide beneficial
effects to the human body. In fact, it has also
other uses. Just like in the Earth probiotic,
people are now able to decrease the amount
of wastes in the landfill. Instead these food
wastes are used as a composite to make the
soil even healthier. Furthermore, the use of
such process also contributes to the source
of microorganisms which can be used in the
production of probiotic products.
