- #2 First, we’re going to see a definition of TP and why a teacher should have one. Then, I’m going to explain the advantages of an electronic portfolio and what ways it is better than the paper based one. Finally and most importantly, I’m going to focus on an example eportfolio and give you examples of how it helps me grow professionally as a teacher.
- #3 -In Art and architecture, a portfolio is a sample collection that shows the best work of the artist or the architect. Similarly in teaching, teachers use portfolios to show the best teaching practices/ideas/achievements they have and to improve them each time through reflection. -The key words in this definition are: record/reflect/develop Portfolio is not a collection of all your documents. Select your best activities Reflect on your teaching practice for improvements.(plan/act/evaluate/reflect/improve) - TP allows you to see all aspects of teaching connected.(ex : adapt teaching practice to teaching philosophy)

Created online (ex; wix.com) That’s why An E-portfolio : Easy access: everyone can access it anytime, anywhere… Multimedia (interactive):you can include in TP video, audio, charts, animations, forms and other interactive resources. Easy to manage/ update (depends on ICT skills): you can update materials easily (if you have stored your materials on Google drive, you easily share and show them in your eportfolio) Easy sharing (peers/students/supervisors): the biggest advantage of eportfolio; colleagues, supervisors/students can give you feedback on your portfolio components. Collaboration and feedback become more effective. Think about how many people are likely to see your paper portfolio/how many ones are likely to see it when your share it online?
- #5 This is a snapshot of my eportfolio created on wix.com, there are other ways and sites to create it, but this one is easy and has many advantages. These are components of eportfolio; there are no clear standards on what should be included in a TP. But it should cover different aspects of your teaching.for me these are components:
- #6 Articulate teaching philosophy: -Important to clarify your views of the natures of language, the goal of teaching it. Awareness of these makes a teacher more effective. - Whatever teaching practices you adapt have theoretical background, so why not be aware of it. - These beliefs will determine your attitude to language teaching and how you should teach it. Determines your views/approaches/teaching practices.
- #7 Relate it to your teaching Reflect on the conferences, workshops, and other professional occasions. What did you benefit from them and how you relate that to your teaching practice. Example: I attended the 7th Mate ICT conference in Agadir 2011. I attended presentations on how to exploit mobile phones in class. My reflection on these then was that I couldn’t apply these things in my class. But that reflection gave me practical ideas on how to benefit from mobile phones in my class.
- #8 reflecting on my lesson plans by asking yourself what worked in a lesson and what went wrong allows me to improve my teaching. Ex:
- #9 last year, I delivered a lesson to my 2bac students to teach expressions of addition and contrast by using the characteristics of their mobiles phones. Students were motivated and took it seriously because they were talking about their phones. Reflecting on that this year, I said why not improve it a little bit and ask student to sell their mobile phones to whole class by convincing them that they have the best ones. So I named the activity: Sell me your mobile phone. The students should use persuasive language, addition, and contrast and public speaking skills to convince their classmates. It went well, better the ones of last year.
