Dystopian Film, Divergent, And Children Of Men
Children of Men tells the story of illegal immigrants trying to find a place of refuge or safety within
the United Kingdom. In another dystopian film, Divergent, the characters live in a world that is
divided into five factions which is supposed to prevent future war. In both films, the government has
an impact on the characters. In Children of men it has the characteristics of contemporary society
while in Divergent it has both characteristics of a communist and capitalist societies. But what they
both have in common is that in each film it shows images of war weather it would be mental or
physical. Survival and revolution are shown to have a role in each film differently. Both films relay
the idea of redemption and hope for the future while having a dystopia setting.
Alfonso Cuaron, the director of the film Children of Men, relays a contemporary society by having
the movie based in the future, and he shows changes of the world and international political
institutions. How the future is not all the fancy technology and the society is broken because
everything revolves around the elimination of immigrants. With that it is causing the government to
turn into a police state by trying to get rid of all the immigrants. He adds some paints in the movie
that are represented as famous artwork in the later days. Giving the viewers that because of the
world changing some people are still stuck on the past instead of the future. Also, Alfonso Cuaron
made the evolution of the human

America 's Greatest Weapon Against The Nazi Regime
When asked about his country's greatest weapon against the Nazi regime, Winston Churchill didn't
hesitate to respond. He said, "It was what England's greatest threat had always been... hope."
What Churchill knew, and what all great leaders know, is the most empowering thought a person can
receive hope. It is unquestionably the strongest motivational force in all the earth. When hope fills
our heart, we dream of a better future. We begin to see possibilities that otherwise would have not
been seen. It makes the seemingly impossible become possible. The bravery of all exploration
derives from the probability of more. One will never step out into uncharted territory without the
belief that they can get to somewhere better. Our country was ... Show more content on

The presenters shared numerous studies and research that had been conducted on the types of
thinking that plagues many who are trapped in its claws. Poverty runs off the assumption that there
are not enough financial resources available. Therefore, the hope of a better future becomes
impossible in the thinking of the impoverished. If someone does not believe there is a possibility of
achievement, they will never even try to attain it. As we were discussing these challenges, I began to
realize how poverty is not just isolated to finances, it is a mindset that affects every area of life.
Poverty is not a number, and it is a belief.
Many organizations have hit a growth barrier because their employees are operating in poverty. Not
because of their financial status or compensation, but because they have lost hope in themselves.
They are working from a place of lifeless duty rather than hopeful pursuit. George Washington
Carver said, "Where there is no vision, there is no hope." An organization can have all the money in
the world yet still be filled with employees who are impoverished in their thinking. We as leaders
must communicate the potential of greater impact, greater opportunities, and more magnificent
results to progress our teams forward. People have first to believe there is a possibility for a better
future to activate their motivation to work toward it. When one believes something is possible, the
mind goes to work figuring out every way to make

Operations and Human Resource Management: Working Together...
Operations and Human Resource Management: Working together for a better tomorrow
Lori A. Erickson
East Tennessee State University
Introduction Historically, operations management and human resource management have been
separate fields, only interacting for administrative issues regarding payroll and other matters
(Boudreau et al., 2002). However, human resources play an integral role in the development of
strategic plans for organizations. Since no operations can take place without the human capital
necessary to implement the operations, special attention should be paid to the linkages between the
operational strategy and the human resource strategy of the firm. According to Ahamd and
Schroeder (2003, p. 19) "human resources are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If employees are not paid, they will not work; if machines are not running, employees have nothing
to do; if the bills are not paid, the plant cannot continue operations. The majority of the functions
within a firm are interrelated and dependent upon one another.
Human Resources as a Strategic Partner in Operations Martell and Carroll (1995) stated that there
are two types of human resources: strategic and operative. They went on to describe four
characteristics of human resource initiatives: (1) They are long–term oriented; (2) They are
connected with the corporate strategies; (3) They are connected with the organizational
performance; and (4) The line managers are involved in the details of decisions regarding human
resource management. Too often, both operations managers and human resource mangers forget that
they are working toward the same goal. Often, human resources will adopt policies and procedures
that are hard for line managers to implement, and line managers expect human resources to have an
inherent understanding of the processes taking place on the plant floor. The relationship between the
best human resource practices and organizational performance must always

Personal Narrative: My Experience At Bear Creek Camp
Deanne: Good morning, this is Deanne and I'm talking with Jacki this morning and Jackie is going

here is we actually have a program packed filled from day to evening including introduction into
difference science techniques, thinking about the world around you. You don't need to be in a
classroom to be aware of your environment. The environment here at the camp, so far is 100 percent

Age Of Reason And Optimism In America
The definition of perseverance is as follows, the steadfastness in doing something despite the
difficulty or delay in achieving success. The definition of optimism is as follows, the hopefulness
and confidence about the future or successful outcome of something. I believe that the trait
perseverance best describes the Age of Reason and optimism best describes America today. What do
you think of when you hear the word perseverance? To early Americans perseverance meant
fighting for a better tomorrow. They had to persevere and fight a country they had originated from to
be successful with getting the freedom, fairness, and equality they craved and desired. Even when
food and supplies were low and patience was tested they still fought. After

Coming Of Age Characters
Older characters in movies are depicted as wise people who guide others along the correct paths.
These adults play an important role by supporting the major characters so that they may continue
after they make a mistake or stray from their goal. Elders are depicted as having great compassion
and understanding or having more worldly knowledge than the other characters in the film. Though
many older characters are commonly portrayed as understanding they do not always follow the
archetype. Each race has their own type of elder that go about helping characters in different ways.

characters of that movie perpetuating that hispanic elders are people to seek out for comfort or
advice. In the case for Native Americans, their elders tend to be the most cryptic but try to help the
characters more actively than asian elders. The thing that makes Tomas stand out is he doesn't just
try to counsel Carlos and Magnolia but their parents as well. Carlos and Magnolia's parents make
mistakes as well and Tomas tries to talk to them that their kids are should be able to be trusted and
that their words are true. They first dismiss Tomas, but in the end accept Magdalena back. Though
Carlos is still on his own when Tomas dies, Tomas is able influence Carlos to become a better man
than the one we see at the beginning of the story. Though not all adults in coming of age movies are
a positive influence. In Quinceañera everyone who should be thought be a supportive pillar in

Comparison Of Charlie's Angels And Kill Bill
Many people know Lucy Liu for her extensive films and television resume – from her breakout
character in Ally McBeal, to the blockbuster movies Charlie's Angels and Kill Bill, to the current
starring character, Joan Watson, in the CBS Elementary. It is not hard to discern the trademarks of
the style in Liu's performances.
Firstly, there was the range of roles she played in her career, in particular her switching back and
forth between light comedies and actions. The latter comprises the second factor verifying her as an
actor. The third confirmation of her acting ability came from her being nominated for an Emmy for
Ally McBeal. Playing Ling Woo who was specifically characterised for Liu, wins her popularity,

America's Gift to My Generation
America's gift to our generation is the hope for a better future is because we have the power to

the hope of better futures to come, I should know this personally because when I was little I lived
with my grandparents with my in their basement. My dad worked in factories and getting paid
minimum wage. Until one day my dad met my step–mom and was able to go back to school. My
dad is now in the master's program for social work at Miami. My dad and I were gifted the chance

The Misrepresentation Of Minorities For The Mainstream...
The misrepresentation of minorities for the sake of the mainstream film industry has existed since
the foundation of the Hollywood industry. While the industry favors the white male as the ideal for
audiences to cheer towards victory, those who once played both racist and stereotypical characters
are now taking the opportunity to speak out against the mainstream ideal. Out of the several
minority groups working to change the definition of mainstream media to favor minorities, "... the
recent expansion of Asian–American roles on television has paradoxically ushered in a new
generation of actors with just enough star power and job security to speak more freely about
Hollywood's larger failures"(Hess). Unfortunately, the mainstream film industry seems to
continually work against the sense of positioning minorities into leading roles, or much of any role
in the big blockbusters Hollywood, and other mainstream productions, bank upon each year. The
Asian male has long been the victim of racism, misrepresentation, and emasculation by the
mainstream, and it continues to exist. Although, films are coming out, mostly from independent
filmmakers, that counteract the racist Hollywood foundation, even if it's in a very small degree. One
film to have been held up as an opposition to this victimization of the mainstream film industry,
Better Luck Tomorrow, directed by Justin Lin. By using an all Asian cast of young men to tell a

Overcoming Obstacles In As I Get Older By Langston Hughes
How People Overcome Obstacles
"There are over 6,000 languages spoken in the world today, many of which are spoken by fewer
than a few hundred people" (10 cultural differences and facts that make the world interesting). The
world as we know it today is a very diverse place, it has multitudes of culture and ways of life.
Throughout the world there are many different religions, races, and countries that all deal with
setbacks and disadvantages. But we all have something in common, people no matter who they are
or where they are from, battle with hardship. We all face the same problem whether its home, work,
family or personal problems we all suffer through the disasters, and the heartaches. Furthermore it
takes in every situation perseverance to overcome all hardships. Nevertheless to have perseverance
one has to have hope and courage to pursue and conquer the obstructions of life. By looking at "As I
Get Older" by Langston Hughes one can see that individuals overcome their struggles and hardships
by having hope and courage and being able persevere through each and every interference, or
misfortune.
Through all the struggles and adversities of life, there is always hope for a better tomorrow. "Hope is
being able to see that there is light despite all the darkness. –Desmond Tutu" (Hope Quotes). There
are countless obstacles that stand in the way of success, power, wealth and profit. For example there
could be work, school, family, friend, and personal problems all permitting

Tomorrow When The War Began Comparison
Red Dawn "vs" Tomorrow When the War Began Personally, I believe that Red Dawn was a better
movie than Tomorrow When the War Began. This is because Red Dawn was so much more
immersive, had a bigger budget and overall had a better storyline. Tomorrow When the War Began
was basically just a movie to skip a few lessons. Red Dawn was so much exciting and immersive
than Tomorrow When the War Began. Rather than hiding in the bush the whole movie the Red
Dawn characters would actually plan "terror attacks" against the invading forces (North Korea). The
"Wolverines" would also blend into the crowds and gain Intel on the newcomers while still
remaining undercover. A great example of this is at the public speaking event where the North
Koreans are talking to the people, while doing so the Wolverines are setting up explosives to
sabotage the event and get back at the invaders. All while not causing suspicion amongst the group.
Secondly, I believe that Red Dawn was a better movie simply because of the greater budget. With
this bigger budget came good and more well–known actors such as ... Show more content on

life they may have to live for a while as they really got comfortable around guns and also handling
the guns. You could see the group build on moving around quick and silently. Another thing I
noticed was that they used North Korea as the invading forces, unlike Tomorrow When the War
Began the action started literally 5 minutes into the movie and kept the action nice and consistent
right through the movie. An example of this is from the very start where you see the North Koreans

Langston Hughes I Too Essay
Hughes' famous poem, I, Too, was written in the mid 1920's. Similar to most African Americans
pioneers in this era, he felt strongly about "racial segregation," (Ilieva and Lennox 1) or racial
inequality and used his writings to voice his opinion on the issue. In I, Too, Hughes states that he is
the "darker brother" (713) of America, meaning that he is a member of the African American
community. At this particular time, racial inequality was a common issue for African Americans.
Jim Crow laws were in effect to keep African Americans from receiving equal treatment as White
Americans. Further evaluating stanza two from I, Too, Hughes says "They send me to eat in the
kitchen when company comes" (713) showing a time of racial inequality. Along

Definition Essay On Faith
What is faith and does it really work? People rely on faith for things hoped for, but have not yet
received. Faith is commonly associated with religion. Faith is embracing the unknown. Faith gives
people hope and courage. People encourage others with faith. People get on bending knee and pray
with faith. Faith can be someone's first name. Faith gives help through hard times. Faith is not
tangible. Faith is in people's heart. Faith is hoping for a better world. Faith is touching someone's
heart. Faith is a promise for a better tomorrow. Faith is difficult to define, yet people rely on faith
every day. According to Webster's online dictionary faith is, "complete trust and confidence in

Adolescents and adults face difficult challenges. Family, sports, illness, and even death can question
our faith time to time. Faith can give a person courage. "Let your faith be bigger than your fears."
Courage is a feeling inspired by faith. Courage is a spark of hope and belief to challenge what to
overcome. "A leap of faith" is a term used when presented a challenge. To embrace faith can give
evidence and trust that they received what they asked for. Real faith is more than just believing in
something. Real faith includes acting on that faith. To have faith in yourself and challenge yourself
takes real faith. Faith comes into play when we lose a loved one. Death challenges our faith in many
ways. Faith can believe the loved one is now in a better place. One may question faith after a death.
A sudden death can cause loss of faith. Why was he or she taken? Why were prayers unanswered?
Why is the world so cruel? Why did he or she get sick? Faith can be loss when we may have wished
for a different outcome. Faith restores when we have a prayer answered. For many people it is
natural to blame someone when questioning faith. Courage to have faith again is hard for some

Climate Change Reflection
After watching the move How To Let Go and Love All The Things Climate Can't Change, my
perception of our world completely changed. With the overwhelming facts to the heartfelt stories
Josh Fox exposes viewers to the damage that is yet to come. This movie was so effective as opposed
to other climate documentaries because Fox explains the human aspects of climate change.
Traveling to twelve countries on six continents he explains how ocean warming, sea level rise, and
air quality are already negatively affecting people in their everyday lives. People don't connect with
facts, people connect with people. This is something I am realizing is critical in getting others on
board with sustainability initiatives and to re think the role we play as consumers. After graduating I
want to work as a sustainability director for a large company. At the start of my sustainability
journey I am discovering that the most essential part of a sustainability director's job is to be
personable. People will be more likely to implement change when they realize how it benefits or
affects them and their organization. Without effective communication, projects will never be funded,
ideas will not be considered, and it is less likely that your impact will be as substantial as it could.
As a sustainability advocate, it will be my job to promote and implement initiatives that will help us
now, but also generations to come will feel those effects. Josh Fox shows it is the grassroot groups
and people stepping up to protect our planet because they know it is necessary. I have developed the
mindset, if not me than who? Out of all ten of the things that climate can't change, I believe that the
most important one is resilience. As sustainability professionals, it is a fact of life that you will be
told no. But the key is moving on from that. You can not get yourself worked up just because things
didn't play out how we want. We can also not let getting told no beat us down, not everyone
understands or wants to understand the environmental catastrophes that are upon us. With this in
mind, we should use getting told no to drive us forward and work even harder on the next project we
have. Resilience stood out to me in the movie when the Samoa tribe

Theory Of Knowledge Essay 2014
„That which is accepted as knowledge today is sometimes discarded tomorrow."
Consider knowledge issues raised by this statement in two areas of knowledge.
To what Extent is new knowledge better than old knowledge and therefore can knowledge be
permanent?
To answer this question, one first has to consider that knowledge as such varies on the point of
perspective, since there are many ways of knowing. As for example Reasoning and Sense
Perception. Reasoning is something we use whenever we tend to make a decision, therefore the
interpretation of the word "Reason" can vary in the slightest form. Our sense of reason is usually
decided by our instinct as we decide almost unconsciously depending on the sort of experience we
have had before. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example in 2009, the swine Flu was devised worldwide. Later given facts proved that the
amount of deaths caused by the Swine Flu measured annually were similar to any other of a normal
Flu. 1This proves my point that scandals are devised to the wider public to hide real problems. The
modern media makes this very easy, as they seem to push the importance of scandals. This can be
linked to the area of knowledge History, as it might have been the case with past incidences, and
therefore how do we know if they are correct?
Today is a time measurement representing the present. This makes me wonder what knowledge
exists today? Will it be permanent? To what extent is knowledge temporary? As we have seen in the
past, knowledge we have gained previously proves to be wrong over a certain amount of time. If we
look back for example people used to believe that the earth was flat. This was predominantly
because the technology was not there to research further. So basically a lack of technology hinders
us from knowing everything. Can this be applied to us? It is often said that the more you learn the
less you know, which conveys much the same problem as the essay. For example myself, when I
was younger, I used to believe that colours were just given by nature. But now after some time in
Physics lessons, I realised that colours are nothing more than the visual perception from the light
reflection depending on its wavelengths. How do we know we can trust the

The Pros And Cons Of Poverty
Just ten years later, janitors once again marched for an increase in their wages. The city still had to
confront all the issues related to poverty and wages, so the workers decided that their best option for
them to be heard, was through a march (Meyerson, 2000). As the marchers began to walk down
Wilshire Boulevard from downtown to Century City, they experience many surprises. As they
walked the cars kept honking at them, not become of anger, but because they were trying to signal
their support for the movement (Meyerson, 2000). As the movement continued, there was a lot more
support then what they believed they would get. Elected officials came out and stood on the flatbed
truck leading the parade, to signal their support (Meyerson, 2000). This march was very different in
comparison to the one that had occurred 10 years prior, which had been violent. Furthermore, there
was a lot of influential people on their side, for example Deputy Mayor Manuel Valencia, who said
that "the wages that the strikers are now earning are simply not a livable wage, not for anyone, not
in Los Angeles." (Meyerson, 2000). They had a great deal of support, not only here, in L.A., but also
abroad. There is an important line in the article by Meyerson, "By making visible the lives of our
immigrant poor, by making plausible a solution to their poverty, they have–in 10 short days–
improved us all" (2000). They stood up for their rights, and helped make L.A. a better city. It is

A Commencement Prayer By Henry Sloan Coffin
Commencement Prayer Reflection The lines that stood out most to me in Henry Sloan Coffin's "A
Commencement Prayer" are, "quicken us to new insights for our time;/ that we may be possessors of
the truth of many/ yesterdays,/ partakers of your thoughts for today/ and creators with you of a better
tomorrow". We as readers are presented with three different types of people, seers, scholars, and
saints, and reminded that we have already joined in both their faith and their labor, their belief and
their actions. As learners, we must be enlightened by the saints, those who do good work, learn from
their lives, and strive to do even better today, showing that we are "possessors of the truth of
yesterdays'. To possess something is to own it. An example would be, I possess my belongings. I
want my belongings to be protected and respected and in the same way, we must respect the past
and learn out of it. At the same time, we must be enriched with new concepts or "insights for our

Major Theological Essay on Dreaming and ¬"The Croods"
Everyone has a dream, something that he or she wants to do or have, or someone whom he or she
wants to be in the future. That dream is also what made the "first modern family" witness the
unfolding of a new world. From their cave going out into the wonders of the land, the Croods, with
the help of Guy and his belt, were set on an adventure that changed their way of living and
perceiving themselves and their environment. Amidst the cataclysms that seemed to chase them,
they learned to survive in more meaningful ways and slowly did they know that the world is
changing and that they have the ability to adapt to it and not just hide away from it.

A journey of faith is a combination of believing, doing, and trusting. These three distinct dimensions
of doctrines, morals, and worship make faithing, something that the teenage Crood did throughout
the movie, possible. From the beginning, Eep knew that something more wonderful existed beyond
their cave walls, which is the very reason why she hated staying inside and letting herself be
contented with the darkness of what she sarcastically called "home sweet home." Even if she has not
seen it, she was confident that it was as beautiful as the sun that she has been looking forward to see
each passing day. This, then, translated into action, as she did what the rest of her family thought
was bad: go out of the cave on her own. She did this not to betray or disregard the safety of the
people whom she left there, but instead, to follow the source of her fascination and take hold of the
light she wanted to capture. When she met Guy and eventually trusted him in the process, her
fascination grew into desire to plunge into the new world, fueled by her belief that she and her
family would be free from the cave and have a greater future ahead of

Since industrialization came into the mainstream late in the 18th century, it affected households and
this led to change in lifestyles. Though it made our work as human beings easier, it became the

We are losing our nations pride in a devastating manner. By the end of September this year, Kenya

Poaching has turned out to be an epidemic in Africa. Due to unemployment, young people venture
into poaching because of its good remuneration. Calls have been made from different quarters to
declare poaching a national disaster. I second this. It's a well–known fact that elimination of a
particular species from an ecosystem breaks down the food chain and in the process affecting other
organisms. Eventually it leads to animals dying if they can't migrate and plants may die. Over the
last two centuries, we have witnessed plant and animal species go extinct and human activity and its

With these facts on hand, every day I wake up feels like I'm leaving in an increasingly toxic

back. I ask myself; what am I doing? What are the repercussions of my actions? Had my ancestors
done this, would I be here now? No! Many of us are too busy – busy doing nothing. I choose to
make a change. I choose to start with small steps that in the end will count.
My deep love for the environment comes out of the great beauty I see in the world and the curiosity
in me. I have always been intrigued by the universe. Out of

Scatological Humor In The Movie Jackass
FILM CRITIC Heaven help the unsuspecting families who wander into "Adam Sandler's Eight
Crazy Nights" expecting a jolly animated holiday funfest. The holidays aren't very cheerful in
Sandlerville, which is why the PG–13 rating mentions "frequent and crude sexual humor." The
MPAA doesn't mention it, but there's also a lot of scatological humor in the film, in keeping with
Sandler's inexplicable fascination with defecation, flatulence and bodily fluids.
If this is not a family film, what is it? Well, the audiences for "Jackass" may enjoy a scene where
Davey, the hero, slams a sweet little old man into a Port–a–Potty and shoves it down a hill. When
the geezer emerges at the bottom, he is still alive, but covered from head to toe with excrement.
Then Davey sprays him with a garden hose, and he freezes solid. Ho, ho. Davey (who looks like and
is voiced by Sandler) is "a 33–year–old crazy Jewish guy," the film informs us, who is up before the
judge on the latest in a long series of brushes with the law, this time for drunkenness. The judge is
prepared to send him away for a long time, but kindly little Whitey (also voiced by Sandler) pipes
up. Whitey explains that he is the referee of the local youth basketball league, and he could use an
assistant. The judge releases Davey to Whitey's custody, not explaining why he thinks this drunk and
vandal would be a good role model.
Whitey and his twin sister, Eleanore (Sandler again), take the lad into their home, but he remains

Success And Its Elements Of Success
Success and its elements As we all fold the page on an academic year, for some of us this might
have been the most important year of our lives. As we end school and prepare our brains for the next
phase, we indulge our thoughts in the prize that everyone dreams of, what some would call 'The
Pinnacle of Civilization'. Our minds drift off thinking of Success, and at that instant we tremble,
panic and curl into the corner, as the shadow of the obstacles that will stand in our path appears
across the horizon. Today, I'll try to help us all by identifying the critical elements behind success. I
am not claiming that I hold the key, but maybe together we can sniff out the truth behind it.
To start with: Confidence is the belief in your abilities, your capabilities, your attitude and your
Opinion, Freedom of inner–doubt and conflict. It is known as the memory of success and the key to
the city of achievements. The positive feeling of one's ability to accomplish any certain or general
activities in life, a belief that one's self and capabilities are equal to most any task.
That might sound a little complicated and threatening. My Mother always tells me: "Nobody is
perfect, you're better than nobody, but nobody is better than you." And that is precisely the root of
confidence, the belief that you can achieve anything, the way anybody else can. No matter the odds,
you can do what you want, because you believe you can.
Confidence is the difference between feeling unstoppable and

Speech On Racism In Sports
Without a doubt, we look at athletes today and from the past as if they are larger than life
individuals. They show their personality through talent no matter what they play; some are better
than others, for example some can kick or throw. However, at the end of the day they all have a
different voice and a different story. People expect them to turn a blind eye to everyday events
because of their status. People think of athletes as celebrities, they say they do not go through the
same struggles as everyday people. That statement is far from the truth when it pertains to the issue
of racism. Racism has been an unresolved problem for years whether it is in sports or athletes
speaking for what they believe. Racism has had a big impact on sports such as Germany hosting the
olympics and cheating, N.B.A. owners thinking they rule over their players, and the hidden
discrimination that happens in locker rooms. Many times athletes have stood up for what they
believed just to be shot down. Nowhere in their contracts does it state that because they are
professionals that they must compromise their freedom of speech. Whether it be refusing to meet
with the president, speaking out on racial injustices, or not standing for the national anthem, athletes
have a strong voice in the fight against discrimination and other traumatic events. The fight for
equality in sports and throughout America is a process that includes multiple organizations, the
reaction of authority figures, and

Tomorrow Passage In Macbeth
Tomorrow
(Discussing three themes in the Tomorrow passage In William Shakespeare Macbeth)
The first theme the Tomorrow passage speaks to is the flight theme of the play Macbeth. Earlier in
the play we saw many people leave after Macbeth had killed those people in fear of their own life.
We see a lot of people that flee instead of fighting because they knew Macbeth had all the power and
they wouldn't be able to overthrow him. "Bring me no more reports; let them fly all!" (Macbeth Act
5 Scene 3 Line 1). He is saying that he doesn't want to know anything anymore, because his
prophecies told him that he has nothing to fear. He doesn't think any of the prophecies will come
true. We interpret this as hawks and sparrows, when the hawk, which is Macbeth sees a sparrow,
which is anyone that he feels threatened by, the hawk will kill the sparrow. ... Show more content on

We knew that Malcolm and Macduff where planning on fighting Macbeth, but we didn't know how
Lady Macbeth was sick. "The Queen, my lord, is dead." (Macbeth Act 5 Scene 5 Line 16). Lady
Macbeth had killed herself because she was living in guilt, her and Macbeth grew apart, and she was
sleep deprived. She was paranoid about everything that Macbeth had done and she knew it wasn't
going to get better because Macbeth was still killing. "...And all our yesterdays lighted fools, the
way to dusty death." ( Macbeth Tomorrow passage act 5 scene 5 lines 21–22). This is saying
everything we have learned have taught fools not to follow in those foot steps, but to become

Essay about Asians and Kill Bill
Asians and Kill Bill
Sitting in the movie theater, I was baffled to see so many stereotypes touched on in one single film.
These stereotypes were not just any kind of stereotype – they were those pertaining to Asians in
particular. The obviousness and sheer transparency of the stereotypes made the movie look like a
complete joke. The film? Kill Bill.
The majority of today's films starring Asian actors and actresses often contain numerous stereotypes.
They cater to the biased views that most non–Asians have of Asian ethnicity and culture. What they
do not know they make up for in ignorance and ridicule in one of today's top forms of mass media.
By using a widespread style of media in today's pop culture, more and ... Show more content on

From her roles in Charlie's Angels to this year's Kill Bill, Liu has become a veteran of the tough–
chick image – she is always prepared to fight. Collectively, these actors have always impressed their
audiences with their talents but audiences fail to realize that fictional portrayal is not always reality.
Ask any person of Asian descent and many will concur that at one point, someone has asked them:
"Do you know kung fu?"
The stereotypes do not end there. Other films tend to expose Asians as nerds and overachievers. An
example of this can be seen in Better Luck Tomorrow in which a group of young boys are all
striving to get the best grades possible, no matter how they are earned. Terminal USA includes the
classic computer nerd who is all brains and no life.
Another common stereotype is one strictly directed towards Asian women. The female character is
always one of two things. She is either the sexual dominatrix (the "dragon lady") or the innocent and
submissive young girl (the "China doll"). More often than not, Asian women are portrayed as exotic,
mysterious, and overtly sexual. A perfect example of this can be seen in films like The World of
Suzie Wong.

helping at–risk young adults gain vocational training toward preparing them for a successful career
in several different industries. The Harrisburg Skills for tomorrow located in Pennsylvania is
constantly in the lower half of the rankings and has been constantly declining. The main issue of
declining rankings can be directly related Ted Alvarez being a poor leader in the organization. In
addition to having every man for himself mentality with no teams formed. To fully understand why
the organization wasn't heading down the path to success many different tools were used to help
analyze the situations. Models such as the service profit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Employees are also experiencing low task control. Low task control is a stressor and increases with
the burden of responsibility that the employees must carry with outcomes that they have little
control over. OB Issue: Lack of Communication Evidence: All of the employees at Skills for
Tomorrow are not communicating with each another. Some of the employees are experiencing high
levels of communication barriers called noise in their attempts to communicate with one another. A
few employees have language barriers with Yu and do not share a similar codebook meaning they do
not share the same language. The employees are reluctant or having difficulty in communicating
their issues to the executive director. In holding back it additionally is not allowing them to
effectively re–organize work in light of the budget cuts and costs to the organization. Ted also did
not communicate clearly job role perceptions for his employees. Another communication barrier that
is evident with Ted is the imperfect perceptual process of his sending and receiving skills. Industry
Analysis KSF In the government–sponsored organization of Skills for Tomorrow it is important that
employees and management realize that effective team management is the key to successful
operations. Having a more effective team in place will create a more successful organization by

Alis broke the kiss and sat back on her heels with a soft smile on her face. "When shall we wed?"

"Why not? Tomorrow's a good day as any. And I don't want to wait, Alis. I've been parted from you

A look of concern slid across Alis's face. "But who will conduct the ceremony? And your knee! You

Reflection Paper
Growing up my grandfather would always say, "Boy, you can't find any wisdom, if you don't
experience life." Of course, part of his reasoning for say this was to get me to leave him alone;
however, there is a great deal of truth to his statement. Just like with John Dewey claiming,
"Through experience man learns about the world...." Dewey continues to claim, "...that students
should be involved in real life tasks..." Through these tasks, students can build experience and thus
develop the wisdom to serve them later in life. These experiences and the wisdom that follows are
vital in making a better tomorrow. As an adult student, I am in full agreement with Dewey's
perspective on the matter. Because through experiences I have found, comes understanding and this
understanding helps to shape the decisions that I have made later in life. Additionally, my
experience has shown that when studying real–world problems and work–related tasks, as a student,
I become more motivated to absorb as much information as I can, and I become better prepared to
succeed in my professional career. Indeed, anyone who has ever studied history can testify that if we
as a society do not learn from our mistakes than we will be destined to repeat them. These lessons
directly relate to the experiences in Dewey's philosophy. Moreover, the most singular form of this
society is the individual, thus acquiring wisdom through experiences is essential to not repeating
past mistakes. While I believe wholeheartedly in Dewey's philosophy towards education, a few
additions would help students to become better rounded as they enter society. One of the most
important additions is to immerse students at all levels in various cultures outside of their average
demographic. Allowing pupils to become cross–cultural students will help bring change to society,
and to the world. Likewise, being opening these avenues to students to explore it will help open a
dialogue with the students to discuss among their peers, ultimately, allowing the student to create
their path in the world with a worldly influence rather than just their neighborhood. Aside from the
obvious enhancements to my life education has brought, my educational journey has also played a
significant

"Let us sacrifice our today so that our children can have a better tomorrow." was said by a very wise
man, the former President of India A. P. G. Abdul Kalam. In this quote he does not only mean
children but he means the people close to us in general, we must learn to sacrifice for others so that
we're not the only ones becoming better but the people around us are too. Furthermore, when I was
in sixth grade I was initially going to go on a two–day music trip to Hershey Park in Pennsylvania,
and I was very excited to finally head out into the world by myself without my parents holding my

I was able to go to Busch Gardens because I was apart of the Chorus and that year in Busch Gardens
we ended up placing in first place beating billion's of chorus groups and we got a superior rating

the band too, all the bands had gotten a superior rating but only the Wind Ensemble placed first in
the competition, sadly the Jazz Band placed second that year. Additionally, this trip was three days
and two night which was longer than the other one and we had a cruise ship, we had a pizza party,
and a day of traveling, making it one of the best music trips I go to. However, this was not the last
time I went on a Music in the Parks trip, my eighth grade year I went to Dorney Park in
Pennsylvania, and I was able to go to the state I took the liberty to avoid in sixth grade. Although the
trip constructed was not the best in term of location and activities, it was my most successful year
because I sang for the Chorus and the Jazz Chorus, and I played for the Jazz Band and Wind
Ensemble. Not only that but, in that year I gained one of my biggest accomplishments in my life, out
of millions of people in that competition I was chosen and awarded to be the best soloist out of
everyone there leaving a memory I could never forget. When my name was called I jumped with

You can use the discoveries to your advantage by accepting or changing strengths and weaknesses. I

I have discovered some interesting things I have noticed in myself before taking this course. For
example, my learning style I have noticed is the visual learning style.
With this, I prefer to see and read information to full gain comprehension. If I forget the data, or not
clearly understand it the first time read, I have the option of reading it over. I do not always trust
myself to absorb all information the first time around. I take a lot of notes to look at. Notes help me
remember even though I may not read the again, I can refer to them in my mind after writing them
down. I am not sure if just anyone reading them would get anything out of it, but at least I know
what they mean.
I like to take my time with material, but am not always given the allotted time to do so. I also like to
keep a written list of things to do to refer to. I am comfortable with my learning style, accepted it as
my very own. I am not sure if changing it this late in life is such a good idea. I have got by this far, it
must work out for me.
I have identified my personality style as being extroverted, one who becomes easily energized by

being discussed. If I have no idea what is being addressed, I am better of keeping quiet to save

Deserving a Better Tomorrow
Albert Einstein, the famed physicist, once noted that "We can't solve our problems with the same
kind of thinking we used when we created them." Today's world is faced with the dual threats of
climate problems brought on by the use of fossil fuels and the economic challenge caused by the
increasing scarcity and demand for those fossil fuels. It is time for society to look beyond the limited
and dirty fossil fuels as the energy of choice and promote the use of the abundant renewable energy
sources we are endowed with. Because the subsidies to wind and other alternative energies
ultimately generate more income than their initial costs and because we continue to subsidize fossil
fuels, we should modify governmental tax policy to incentivize ... Show more content on

Investments, stimulated by the PTC, have catalyzed advancements in wind technology, lowering the
cost of wind energy installations by 90% since 1990 (Passero 132). With the use of PTC, wind has
proven its competitive position relative to traditional fossil fuels and "provided 26% of all new U.S.
electric capacity in 2010 ... and over the past four years ... more than 35% of all new U.S. electric
capacity" (awea.org). With such dramatic growth, is the PTC still necessary? In order for renewable
energies to compete with the established fossil fuels, the playing field must be level. "The
Congressional Research Service notes that fossil fuel subsidies are ... as old as fossil fuels ... and for
more than 90 years have taken subsidies via generous tax breaks" (awea.org). One recent attempt to
analyze subsidies on all levels pegged "2006 federal fiscal subsidies for energy at nearly $75 billion,
with over 85% of those subsidies going to fossil fuels ($49 billion), nuclear energy ($9 billion), and
ethanol ($6 billion). The remaining $10 billion in federal subsidies were split between the broad
array of renewable energies with wind receiving 3.4%, solar 2.8%, and hydroelectric 2.2%." The
massive subsidies to fossil fuels originate primarily from

Proposal To Make Choir For A Better Tomorrow
Choir for a Better Tomorrow
For any student interested in music or a challenge, choir is worth the try. What stops anyone from
trying something that they do in the shower or in the car? Choir brings a new perspective to music,
besides playing an instrument. To use your own voice is a unique sound that no one would be able to

brings the music to life, and allows the lyrics to flow through the air. Lets not forget the endless
sounds you can get from different types of voices. The first time hearing perfect harmony will send
people flocking to the counseling office to sign up for this life changing class.

Reflective Speech
Libby Streeton– Irrational thinking is common in a nuclear war, right? Why did I expect Fin and
Max would change their minds? I begged them through a river of tears to stay with me. But that was
not enough. I can't adjust to reality, watching their lanky bodies fade in the distance keeps reminding
me of the fate of their lives. Max is only 12, too young to witness violent and unforgiving deaths of
innocent citizens. What happens if I never see them again? I assumed I was doing right but
apparently, what I think is right is wrong. I am only just beginning to realise what has just happened.
They are gone. My two young boys are gone forever. I have hugged them for the final time. They
risked their lives to find me. But I couldn't do the same. I'm stuck in a half broken down office
building in the middle of a deserted city and I can't leave because too many people rely on me to
stay here and help. Inhale. Exhale. I keep thinking about what my life is like now, and right now I
feel it is hopeless. I am isolated, sitting in a patrolled corner of an office, trying to deal with this
absolute shit of a situation. I'm a failure of a mother to let my children out of my sight and endanger
themselves by going out onto the deserted streets to find a group of people that may or may not even
exist. I had the chance to keep them here, but I lost it just as easily. Today is not the day to judge
Greg on his decisions as a parent, but what sort of a father deserts his sons and runs after a girl he's
just met? Bad parenting if you ask me... I wish I knew sooner that he just walked out on them, I'm
not one to judge and I'm certainly not the ideal mother but that was immature. If only Greg and I
were on better terms, I mean both of us being the adults were childish to let down the boys, I'm
disappointed in the both of us. I know in my heart, I couldn't stay with a man I no longer loved,
neither could I cheat on him. Leaving him suited me but broke max and fin. But I didn't care, did I?
I mean as long as they have money life is complete. Why Libby, why? I could have and should have
made an effort to visit. I'm a hypocritical person, to blame all the reasons why the boys are now
abounded in a shopping centre on Greg and his childish

Analysis Of La Haine And Theffe Kiffe Tomorrow
Life in the suburbs of France is hard; this is shown in the film La Haine and Kiffe Kiffe Tomorrow.
La Haine is a 1995 French film that was directed by Mathieu Kassovitz which outlines the struggle
of living in the French suburbs. La Haine was translated into English means hate. The story revolves
around three early twenty–year–olds named Hubert, Vinz, and Sayid from three very different
immigrant families. Kiffe Kiffe Tomorrow was published in 2004 by Faiza Guene who was 19 at the
time it was released. The novel is written from the voice of a young teenager named Doria. Doira
lives with her mom in the suburbs of Paris as well. Her story is one of a single parent home with an
immigrant family with Algerian descent. Both of these stories share the struggles of the immigrant
life, and both of the writers wanted to shine the light on the issue. They both wrote about the
immigrant experience so the French public and others around the world would see the struggle and
hope to bring change to these conditions. I believe the Kiffe Kiffe Tomorrow is more effective in
seeking change in the French suburbs due to its point of view, world choice and growth of
characters.
Each of these stories is told from a different point of view; La Haine is from the third person point
of view which follows the three main characters. Kiffe Kiffe Tomorrow is told from the first person
point of view from Doria. In La Haine, the film follows around the three main characters like it was

Why Miami County Should Invest In A Homeless Shelter

hope, help and a better tomorrow. Firstly, hope is something we all need. Whether or not it is present
in our lives can make the biggest difference. There are many families out in the world today who
don't know when they will get their next meal. As well as, many individuals. People should be able
to always have hope for a better future for themselves, but

Dystopian Film, Divergent, And Children Of Men

  • 1. Dystopian Film, Divergent, And Children Of Men Children of Men tells the story of illegal immigrants trying to find a place of refuge or safety within the United Kingdom. In another dystopian film, Divergent, the characters live in a world that is divided into five factions which is supposed to prevent future war. In both films, the government has an impact on the characters. In Children of men it has the characteristics of contemporary society while in Divergent it has both characteristics of a communist and capitalist societies. But what they both have in common is that in each film it shows images of war weather it would be mental or physical. Survival and revolution are shown to have a role in each film differently. Both films relay the idea of redemption and hope for the future while having a dystopia setting. Alfonso Cuaron, the director of the film Children of Men, relays a contemporary society by having the movie based in the future, and he shows changes of the world and international political institutions. How the future is not all the fancy technology and the society is broken because everything revolves around the elimination of immigrants. With that it is causing the government to turn into a police state by trying to get rid of all the immigrants. He adds some paints in the movie that are represented as famous artwork in the later days. Giving the viewers that because of the world changing some people are still stuck on the past instead of the future. Also, Alfonso Cuaron made the evolution of the human ... • 3. America 's Greatest Weapon Against The Nazi Regime When asked about his country's greatest weapon against the Nazi regime, Winston Churchill didn't hesitate to respond. He said, "It was what England's greatest threat had always been... hope." What Churchill knew, and what all great leaders know, is the most empowering thought a person can receive hope. It is unquestionably the strongest motivational force in all the earth. When hope fills our heart, we dream of a better future. We begin to see possibilities that otherwise would have not been seen. It makes the seemingly impossible become possible. The bravery of all exploration derives from the probability of more. One will never step out into uncharted territory without the belief that they can get to somewhere better. Our country was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The presenters shared numerous studies and research that had been conducted on the types of thinking that plagues many who are trapped in its claws. Poverty runs off the assumption that there are not enough financial resources available. Therefore, the hope of a better future becomes impossible in the thinking of the impoverished. If someone does not believe there is a possibility of achievement, they will never even try to attain it. As we were discussing these challenges, I began to realize how poverty is not just isolated to finances, it is a mindset that affects every area of life. Poverty is not a number, and it is a belief. Many organizations have hit a growth barrier because their employees are operating in poverty. Not because of their financial status or compensation, but because they have lost hope in themselves. They are working from a place of lifeless duty rather than hopeful pursuit. George Washington Carver said, "Where there is no vision, there is no hope." An organization can have all the money in the world yet still be filled with employees who are impoverished in their thinking. We as leaders must communicate the potential of greater impact, greater opportunities, and more magnificent results to progress our teams forward. People have first to believe there is a possibility for a better future to activate their motivation to work toward it. When one believes something is possible, the mind goes to work figuring out every way to make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Operations and Human Resource Management: Working Together... Operations and Human Resource Management: Working together for a better tomorrow Lori A. Erickson East Tennessee State University Introduction Historically, operations management and human resource management have been separate fields, only interacting for administrative issues regarding payroll and other matters (Boudreau et al., 2002). However, human resources play an integral role in the development of strategic plans for organizations. Since no operations can take place without the human capital necessary to implement the operations, special attention should be paid to the linkages between the operational strategy and the human resource strategy of the firm. According to Ahamd and Schroeder (2003, p. 19) "human resources are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If employees are not paid, they will not work; if machines are not running, employees have nothing to do; if the bills are not paid, the plant cannot continue operations. The majority of the functions within a firm are interrelated and dependent upon one another. Human Resources as a Strategic Partner in Operations Martell and Carroll (1995) stated that there are two types of human resources: strategic and operative. They went on to describe four characteristics of human resource initiatives: (1) They are long–term oriented; (2) They are connected with the corporate strategies; (3) They are connected with the organizational performance; and (4) The line managers are involved in the details of decisions regarding human resource management. Too often, both operations managers and human resource mangers forget that they are working toward the same goal. Often, human resources will adopt policies and procedures that are hard for line managers to implement, and line managers expect human resources to have an inherent understanding of the processes taking place on the plant floor. The relationship between the best human resource practices and organizational performance must always ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jackie: Hi, I'm Jackie [inaudible] [00:00:20] and we are live at Bear Creek Camp about two miles from council and what we are doing here is we actually have a program packed filled from day to evening including introduction into difference science techniques, thinking about the world around you. You don't need to be in a classroom to be aware of your environment. The environment here at the camp, so far is 100 percent cloud cover and 100– percent attitude and you need those working for you. • 9. Age Of Reason And Optimism In America The definition of perseverance is as follows, the steadfastness in doing something despite the difficulty or delay in achieving success. The definition of optimism is as follows, the hopefulness and confidence about the future or successful outcome of something. I believe that the trait perseverance best describes the Age of Reason and optimism best describes America today. What do you think of when you hear the word perseverance? To early Americans perseverance meant fighting for a better tomorrow. They had to persevere and fight a country they had originated from to be successful with getting the freedom, fairness, and equality they craved and desired. • 11. Coming Of Age Characters Older characters in movies are depicted as wise people who guide others along the correct paths. These adults play an important role by supporting the major characters so that they may continue after they make a mistake or stray from their goal. Elders are depicted as having great compassion and understanding or having more worldly knowledge than the other characters in the film. Though many older characters are commonly portrayed as understanding they do not always follow the archetype. Each race has their own type of elder that go about helping characters in different ways. Carlos and Magnolia's parents make mistakes as well and Tomas tries to talk to them that their kids are should be able to be trusted and that their words are true. Comparison Of Charlie's Angels And Kill Bill Many people know Lucy Liu for her extensive films and television resume – from her breakout character in Ally McBeal, to the blockbuster movies Charlie's Angels and Kill Bill, to the current starring character, Joan Watson, in the CBS Elementary. It is not hard to discern the trademarks of the style in Liu's performances. Firstly, there was the range of roles she played in her career, in particular her switching back and forth between light comedies and actions. The latter comprises the second factor verifying her as an actor. The third confirmation of her acting ability came from her being nominated for an Emmy for Ally McBeal. • 17. The Misrepresentation Of Minorities For The Mainstream... The misrepresentation of minorities for the sake of the mainstream film industry has existed since the foundation of the Hollywood industry. While the industry favors the white male as the ideal for audiences to cheer towards victory, those who once played both racist and stereotypical characters are now taking the opportunity to speak out against the mainstream ideal. Out of the several minority groups working to change the definition of mainstream media to favor minorities, "... the recent expansion of Asian–American roles on television has paradoxically ushered in a new generation of actors with just enough star power and job security to speak more freely about Hollywood's larger failures"(Hess). Unfortunately, the mainstream film industry seems to continually work against the sense of positioning minorities into leading roles, or much of any role in the big blockbusters Hollywood, and other mainstream productions, bank upon each year. The Asian male has long been the victim of racism, misrepresentation, and emasculation by the mainstream, and it continues to exist. Although, films are coming out, mostly from independent filmmakers, that counteract the racist Hollywood foundation, even if it's in a very small degree. One film to have been held up as an opposition to this victimization of the mainstream film industry, Better Luck Tomorrow, directed by Justin Lin. Overcoming Obstacles In As I Get Older By Langston Hughes How People Overcome Obstacles "There are over 6,000 languages spoken in the world today, many of which are spoken by fewer than a few hundred people" (10 cultural differences and facts that make the world interesting). The world as we know it today is a very diverse place, it has multitudes of culture and ways of life. Throughout the world there are many different religions, races, and countries that all deal with setbacks and disadvantages. But we all have something in common, people no matter who they are or where they are from, battle with hardship. We all face the same problem whether its home, work, family or personal problems we all suffer through the disasters, and the heartaches. Furthermore it takes in every situation perseverance to overcome all hardships. Nevertheless to have perseverance one has to have hope and courage to pursue and conquer the obstructions of life. By looking at "As I Get Older" by Langston Hughes one can see that individuals overcome their struggles and hardships by having hope and courage and being able persevere through each and every interference, or misfortune. Through all the struggles and adversities of life, there is always hope for a better tomorrow. "Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all the darkness. –Desmond Tutu" (Hope Quotes). • 21. Tomorrow When The War Began Comparison Red Dawn "vs" Tomorrow When the War Began Personally, I believe that Red Dawn was a better movie than Tomorrow When the War Began. This is because Red Dawn was so much more immersive, had a bigger budget and overall had a better storyline. Tomorrow When the War Began was basically just a movie to skip a few lessons. Red Dawn was so much exciting and immersive than Tomorrow When the War Began. Rather than hiding in the bush the whole movie the Red Dawn characters would actually plan "terror attacks" against the invading forces (North Korea). The "Wolverines" would also blend into the crowds and gain Intel on the newcomers while still remaining undercover. A great example of this is at the public speaking event where the North Koreans are talking to the people, while doing so the Wolverines are setting up explosives to sabotage the event and get back at the invaders. All while not causing suspicion amongst the group. Secondly, I believe that Red Dawn was a better movie simply because of the greater budget. You could see the group build on moving around quick and silently. Another thing I noticed was that they used North Korea as the invading forces, unlike Tomorrow When the War Began the action started literally 5 minutes into the movie and kept the action nice and consistent right through the movie. Similar to most African Americans pioneers in this era, he felt strongly about "racial segregation," (Ilieva and Lennox 1) or racial inequality and used his writings to voice his opinion on the issue. In I, Too, Hughes states that he is the "darker brother" (713) of America, meaning that he is a member of the African American community. At this particular time, racial inequality was a common issue for African Americans. Jim Crow laws were in effect to keep African Americans from receiving equal treatment as White Americans. Further evaluating stanza two from I, Too, Hughes says "They send me to eat in the kitchen when company comes" (713) showing a time of racial inequality. Along ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Faith is embracing the unknown. Faith gives people hope and courage. People encourage others with faith. People get on bending knee and pray with faith. Faith can be someone's first name. Faith gives help through hard times. Faith is not tangible. Faith is in people's heart. Faith is hoping for a better world. Faith is touching someone's heart. Real faith includes acting on that faith. To have faith in yourself and challenge yourself takes real faith. Faith comes into play when we lose a loved one. Death challenges our faith in many ways. With the overwhelming facts to the heartfelt stories Josh Fox exposes viewers to the damage that is yet to come. This movie was so effective as opposed to other climate documentaries because Fox explains the human aspects of climate change. Traveling to twelve countries on six continents he explains how ocean warming, sea level rise, and air quality are already negatively affecting people in their everyday lives. People don't connect with facts, people connect with people. This is something I am realizing is critical in getting others on board with sustainability initiatives and to re think the role we play as consumers. After graduating I want to work as a sustainability director for a large company. At the start of my sustainability journey I am discovering that the most essential part of a sustainability director's job is to be personable. People will be more likely to implement change when they realize how it benefits or affects them and their organization. Without effective communication, projects will never be funded, ideas will not be considered, and it is less likely that your impact will be as substantial as it could. As a sustainability advocate, it will be my job to promote and implement initiatives that will help us now, but also generations to come will feel those effects. Josh Fox shows it is the grassroot groups and people stepping up to protect our planet because they know it is necessary. I have developed the mindset, if not me than who? Out of all ten of the things that climate can't change, I believe that the most important one is resilience. As sustainability professionals, it is a fact of life that you will be told no. But the key is moving on from that. You can not get yourself worked up just because things didn't play out how we want. We can also not let getting told no beat us down, not everyone understands or wants to understand the environmental catastrophes that are upon us. With this in mind, we should use getting told no to drive us forward and work even harder on the next project we have. Resilience stood out to me in the movie when the Samoa tribe ... • 29. Theory Of Knowledge Essay 2014 „That which is accepted as knowledge today is sometimes discarded tomorrow." Consider knowledge issues raised by this statement in two areas of knowledge. To what Extent is new knowledge better than old knowledge and therefore can knowledge be permanent? To answer this question, one first has to consider that knowledge as such varies on the point of perspective, since there are many ways of knowing. As for example Reasoning and Sense Perception. Reasoning is something we use whenever we tend to make a decision, therefore the interpretation of the word "Reason" can vary in the slightest form. Our sense of reason is usually decided by our instinct as we decide almost unconsciously depending on the sort of experience we have had before. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example in 2009, the swine Flu was devised worldwide. Later given facts proved that the amount of deaths caused by the Swine Flu measured annually were similar to any other of a normal Flu. 1This proves my point that scandals are devised to the wider public to hide real problems. The modern media makes this very easy, as they seem to push the importance of scandals. This can be linked to the area of knowledge History, as it might have been the case with past incidences, and therefore how do we know if they are correct? Today is a time measurement representing the present. This makes me wonder what knowledge exists today? Will it be permanent? To what extent is knowledge temporary? As we have seen in the past, knowledge we have gained previously proves to be wrong over a certain amount of time. If we look back for example people used to believe that the earth was flat. This was predominantly because the technology was not there to research further. So basically a lack of technology hinders us from knowing everything. Can this be applied to us? It is often said that the more you learn the less you know, which conveys much the same problem as the essay. For example myself, when I was younger, I used to believe that colours were just given by nature. But now after some time in Physics lessons, I realised that colours are nothing more than the visual perception from the light reflection depending on its wavelengths. Teachers Of Tomorrow: Early Childhood Organization Teachers of Tomorrow Teachers of Tomorrow as is an Early Childhood organization that is used to support the professional development of students in early childhood, elementary, middle school and exceptional child education. It is a group that brings different speakers and programs to Southeast for all education majors to enjoy. I was able to interview Bailey, the secretary of Teachers of Tomorrow. She has been a member for the past three years and became secretary for the organization this year. When asked about forms of hierarchy she responded with, "I would consider hierarchy to be President, Treasurer, Secretary, Service, Publicity, and then Social. I think the Secretary is important because I am the connection to all the members, and I need to maintain a relationship with all of them in order to help them succeed in the organization." Before you become an officer, as listed above, you must first become an official member. To become an official member, you must become a part of the National Organization called ASCD (Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development) and pay a small fee for a student membership that lasts one year. • 33. The Pros And Cons Of Poverty Just ten years later, janitors once again marched for an increase in their wages. The city still had to confront all the issues related to poverty and wages, so the workers decided that their best option for them to be heard, was through a march (Meyerson, 2000). As the marchers began to walk down Wilshire Boulevard from downtown to Century City, they experience many surprises. As they walked the cars kept honking at them, not become of anger, but because they were trying to signal their support for the movement (Meyerson, 2000). As the movement continued, there was a lot more support then what they believed they would get. Elected officials came out and stood on the flatbed truck leading the parade, to signal their support (Meyerson, 2000). This march was very different in comparison to the one that had occurred 10 years prior, which had been violent. Furthermore, there was a lot of influential people on their side, for example Deputy Mayor Manuel Valencia, who said that "the wages that the strikers are now earning are simply not a livable wage, not for anyone, not in Los Angeles." (Meyerson, 2000). They had a great deal of support, not only here, in L.A., but also abroad. There is an important line in the article by Meyerson, "By making visible the lives of our immigrant poor, by making plausible a solution to their poverty, they have–in 10 short days– improved us all" (2000). • 35. A Commencement Prayer By Henry Sloan Coffin Commencement Prayer Reflection The lines that stood out most to me in Henry Sloan Coffin's "A Commencement Prayer" are, "quicken us to new insights for our time;/ that we may be possessors of the truth of many/ yesterdays,/ partakers of your thoughts for today/ and creators with you of a better tomorrow". We as readers are presented with three different types of people, seers, scholars, and saints, and reminded that we have already joined in both their faith and their labor, their belief and their actions. As learners, we must be enlightened by the saints, those who do good work, learn from their lives, and strive to do even better today, showing that we are "possessors of the truth of yesterdays'. To possess something is to own it. An example would be, I possess my belongings. I want my belongings to be protected and respected and in the same way, we must respect the past and learn out of it. At the same time, we must be enriched with new concepts or "insights for our time" from the scholars and with that wisdom from seers to "create a better tomorrow." Creating a better tomorrow requires strength, creativity, and responsibility. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That dream is also what made the "first modern family" witness the unfolding of a new world. From their cave going out into the wonders of the land, the Croods, with the help of Guy and his belt, were set on an adventure that changed their way of living and perceiving themselves and their environment. Amidst the cataclysms that seemed to chase them, they learned to survive in more meaningful ways and slowly did they know that the world is changing and that they have the ability to adapt to it and not just hide away from it. Even if she has not seen it, she was confident that it was as beautiful as the sun that she has been looking forward to see each passing day. This, then, translated into action, as she did what the rest of her family thought was bad: go out of the cave on her own. She did this not to betray or disregard the safety of the people whom she left there, but instead, to follow the source of her fascination and take hold of the light she wanted to capture. When she met Guy and eventually trusted him in the process, her fascination grew into desire to plunge into the new world, fueled by her belief that she and her family would be free from the cave and have a greater future ahead of ... • 43. Scatological Humor In The Movie Jackass FILM CRITIC Heaven help the unsuspecting families who wander into "Adam Sandler's Eight Crazy Nights" expecting a jolly animated holiday funfest. The holidays aren't very cheerful in Sandlerville, which is why the PG–13 rating mentions "frequent and crude sexual humor." The MPAA doesn't mention it, but there's also a lot of scatological humor in the film, in keeping with Sandler's inexplicable fascination with defecation, flatulence and bodily fluids. If this is not a family film, what is it? Well, the audiences for "Jackass" may enjoy a scene where Davey, the hero, slams a sweet little old man into a Port–a–Potty and shoves it down a hill. When the geezer emerges at the bottom, he is still alive, but covered from head to toe with excrement. Then Davey sprays him with a garden hose, and he freezes solid. Ho, ho. Davey (who looks like and is voiced by Sandler) is "a 33–year–old crazy Jewish guy," the film informs us, who is up before the judge on the latest in a long series of brushes with the law, this time for drunkenness. The judge is prepared to send him away for a long time, but kindly little Whitey (also voiced by Sandler) pipes up. Whitey explains that he is the referee of the local youth basketball league, and he could use an assistant. • 45. Success And Its Elements Of Success Success and its elements As we all fold the page on an academic year, for some of us this might have been the most important year of our lives. As we end school and prepare our brains for the next phase, we indulge our thoughts in the prize that everyone dreams of, what some would call 'The Pinnacle of Civilization'. Our minds drift off thinking of Success, and at that instant we tremble, panic and curl into the corner, as the shadow of the obstacles that will stand in our path appears across the horizon. Today, I'll try to help us all by identifying the critical elements behind success. I am not claiming that I hold the key, but maybe together we can sniff out the truth behind it. To start with: Confidence is the belief in your abilities, your capabilities, your attitude and your Opinion, Freedom of inner–doubt and conflict. It is known as the memory of success and the key to the city of achievements. The positive feeling of one's ability to accomplish any certain or general activities in life, a belief that one's self and capabilities are equal to most any task. That might sound a little complicated and threatening. My Mother always tells me: "Nobody is perfect, you're better than nobody, but nobody is better than you." And that is precisely the root of confidence, the belief that you can achieve anything, the way anybody else can. No matter the odds, you can do what you want, because you believe you can. They show their personality through talent no matter what they play; some are better than others, for example some can kick or throw. However, at the end of the day they all have a different voice and a different story. People expect them to turn a blind eye to everyday events because of their status. People think of athletes as celebrities, they say they do not go through the same struggles as everyday people. That statement is far from the truth when it pertains to the issue of racism. Racism has been an unresolved problem for years whether it is in sports or athletes speaking for what they believe. Racism has had a big impact on sports such as Germany hosting the olympics and cheating, N.B.A. owners thinking they rule over their players, and the hidden discrimination that happens in locker rooms. Many times athletes have stood up for what they believed just to be shot down. Nowhere in their contracts does it state that because they are professionals that they must compromise their freedom of speech. Whether it be refusing to meet with the president, speaking out on racial injustices, or not standing for the national anthem, athletes have a strong voice in the fight against discrimination and other traumatic events. The majority of today's films starring Asian actors and actresses often contain numerous stereotypes. They cater to the biased views that most non–Asians have of Asian ethnicity and culture. Ask any person of Asian descent and many will concur that at one point, someone has asked them: "Do you know kung fu?" The stereotypes do not end there. • 57. Reflection Paper Growing up my grandfather would always say, "Boy, you can't find any wisdom, if you don't experience life." Of course, part of his reasoning for say this was to get me to leave him alone; however, there is a great deal of truth to his statement. Just like with John Dewey claiming, "Through experience man learns about the world...." Dewey continues to claim, "...that students should be involved in real life tasks..." Through these tasks, students can build experience and thus develop the wisdom to serve them later in life. These experiences and the wisdom that follows are vital in making a better tomorrow. As an adult student, I am in full agreement with Dewey's perspective on the matter. Because through experiences I have found, comes understanding and this understanding helps to shape the decisions that I have made later in life. Additionally, my experience has shown that when studying real–world problems and work–related tasks, as a student, I become more motivated to absorb as much information as I can, and I become better prepared to succeed in my professional career. Indeed, anyone who has ever studied history can testify that if we as a society do not learn from our mistakes than we will be destined to repeat them. These lessons directly relate to the experiences in Dewey's philosophy. Moreover, the most singular form of this society is the individual, thus acquiring wisdom through experiences is essential to not repeating past mistakes. While I believe wholeheartedly in Dewey's philosophy towards education, a few additions would help students to become better rounded as they enter society. One of the most important additions is to immerse students at all levels in various cultures outside of their average demographic. Allowing pupils to become cross–cultural students will help bring change to society, and to the world. Likewise, being opening these avenues to students to explore it will help open a dialogue with the students to discuss among their peers, ultimately, allowing the student to create their path in the world with a worldly influence rather than just their neighborhood. • 67. Deserving a Better Tomorrow Albert Einstein, the famed physicist, once noted that "We can't solve our problems with the same kind of thinking we used when we created them." Today's world is faced with the dual threats of climate problems brought on by the use of fossil fuels and the economic challenge caused by the increasing scarcity and demand for those fossil fuels. It is time for society to look beyond the limited and dirty fossil fuels as the energy of choice and promote the use of the abundant renewable energy sources we are endowed with. Because the subsidies to wind and other alternative energies ultimately generate more income than their initial costs and because we continue to subsidize fossil fuels, we should modify governmental tax policy to incentivize ... Investments, stimulated by the PTC, have catalyzed advancements in wind technology, lowering the cost of wind energy installations by 90% since 1990 (Passero 132). With the use of PTC, wind has proven its competitive position relative to traditional fossil fuels and "provided 26% of all new U.S. electric capacity in 2010 ... and over the past four years ... more than 35% of all new U.S. electric capacity" (awea.org). With such dramatic growth, is the PTC still necessary? In order for renewable energies to compete with the established fossil fuels, the playing field must be level. "The Congressional Research Service notes that fossil fuel subsidies are ... as old as fossil fuels ... and for more than 90 years have taken subsidies via generous tax breaks" (awea.org). One recent attempt to analyze subsidies on all levels pegged "2006 federal fiscal subsidies for energy at nearly $75 billion, with over 85% of those subsidies going to fossil fuels ($49 billion), nuclear energy ($9 billion), and ethanol ($6 billion). The remaining $10 billion in federal subsidies were split between the broad array of renewable energies with wind receiving 3.4%, solar 2.8%, and hydroelectric 2.2%." • 71. Reflective Speech Libby Streeton– Irrational thinking is common in a nuclear war, right? Why did I expect Fin and Max would change their minds? I begged them through a river of tears to stay with me. But that was not enough. I can't adjust to reality, watching their lanky bodies fade in the distance keeps reminding me of the fate of their lives. Max is only 12, too young to witness violent and unforgiving deaths of innocent citizens. What happens if I never see them again? I assumed I was doing right but apparently, what I think is right is wrong. I am only just beginning to realise what has just happened. They are gone. My two young boys are gone forever. I have hugged them for the final time. They risked their lives to find me. But I couldn't do the same. I'm stuck in a half broken down office building in the middle of a deserted city and I can't leave because too many people rely on me to stay here and help. Inhale. Exhale. I keep thinking about what my life is like now, and right now I feel it is hopeless. I am isolated, sitting in a patrolled corner of an office, trying to deal with this absolute shit of a situation. I'm a failure of a mother to let my children out of my sight and endanger themselves by going out onto the deserted streets to find a group of people that may or may not even exist. I had the chance to keep them here, but I lost it just as easily. Today is not the day to judge Greg on his decisions as a parent, but what sort of a father deserts his sons and runs after a girl he's just met? Bad parenting if you ask me... I wish I knew sooner that he just walked out on them, I'm not one to judge and I'm certainly not the ideal mother but that was immature. If only Greg and I were on better terms, I mean both of us being the adults were childish to let down the boys, I'm disappointed in the both of us. I know in my heart, I couldn't stay with a man I no longer loved, neither could I cheat on him. Leaving him suited me but broke max and fin. But I didn't care, did I? I mean as long as they have money life is complete. Why Libby, why? I could have and should have made an effort to visit. I'm a hypocritical person, to blame all the reasons why the boys are now abounded in a shopping centre on Greg and his childish ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Analysis Of La Haine And Theffe Kiffe Tomorrow Life in the suburbs of France is hard; this is shown in the film La Haine and Kiffe Kiffe Tomorrow. La Haine is a 1995 French film that was directed by Mathieu Kassovitz which outlines the struggle of living in the French suburbs. La Haine was translated into English means hate. The story revolves around three early twenty–year–olds named Hubert, Vinz, and Sayid from three very different immigrant families. Kiffe Kiffe Tomorrow was published in 2004 by Faiza Guene who was 19 at the time it was released. The novel is written from the voice of a young teenager named Doria. Doira lives with her mom in the suburbs of Paris as well. Her story is one of a single parent home with an immigrant family with Algerian descent. Both of these stories share the struggles of the immigrant life, and both of the writers wanted to shine the light on the issue. They both wrote about the immigrant experience so the French public and others around the world would see the struggle and hope to bring change to these conditions. I believe the Kiffe Kiffe Tomorrow is more effective in seeking change in the French suburbs due to its point of view, world choice and growth of characters. Each of these stories is told from a different point of view; La Haine is from the third person point of view which follows the three main characters. Kiffe Kiffe Tomorrow is told from the first person point of view from Doria. In La Haine, the film follows around the three main characters like it was the fourth person ... These are questions we ask ourselves and don't completely answer. Now we need to do something instead of just thinking about what we can do to solve the problem. I believe Miami County should invest in a homeless shelter, this will provide families with hope, help and a better tomorrow. Firstly, hope is something we all need. Whether or not it is present in our lives can make the biggest difference. There are many families out in the world today who don't know when they will get their next meal. As well as, many individuals. People should be able to always have hope for a better future for themselves, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
