Finishing at the top of his class, this achievement gained him respect amongst the higher ranking
members of the military. Soon, his time to lead would come when ethnic diversities and old treaty
provisions sparked the second World War. After the outbreak of World War II, it became apparent
that the United States would be a decisive factor in the outcome of the war. On December 7th, 1941,
the attack on Pearl Harbor sparked U.S. military intervention in both Europe and the Pacific.
Looking for a man to lead, the senior officers selected Eisenhower for the job. All of Eisenhowers
training and education was about to be tested. He was named Supreme Commander of the allied
forces in the European Theater. He immediately had to face important decisions regarding the allied
plans. Eisenhower was a strong supporter of an allied invasion of France, but Great Britain had other
objectives. Eisenhower reluctantly organized an invasion of Africa, before heading to Sicily and
Italy. While fairly new to the political scene, Eisenhower soon became an expert at navigating it's
challenges. After the invasion of North Africa, known as Operation Torch, Eisenhower prepared for
what may have been his defining moment. The invasion of France, known as Operation Overlord,

Meanwhile in the United States, Eisenhower was commanding a infantry at Fort St.Lewis. In 1941
Eisenhower returned to where he had started, Fort Sam Houston, but this time he was now the Chief
of Staff of the Third Army. Later that year on December 7, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, and a
few days later the United States declared war on Japan, joining the Allied Powers. Eisenhower was
called into the War Department in Washington D.C to help come up with tactics for the war.
Although he came up with some good ideas Eisenhower still desired going out into the fields and
fighting, since he had not been given the opportunity in World War II. In 1942, he was appointed to
general major, and later Commander–in–Chief if the Allied Powers where he would be the head of
Operation Torch. Eisenhower was successfully able to lead the invasion of North Africa in late 1942.
However his lack of field experience did show early on when he suffered a significant defeat, but
with his leadership he helped the Allies defeat North Africa overall. He then proceeded to invade
Sicily and the shores of Italy. This caused Italy, a Axis power to surrender. In December of 1943, he
was made supreme commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force. On June 6, 1944 Dwight
Eisenhower led one of the most famous invasion and a battle that turned the tide of World War II to
the Allied Powers favor, the invasion would be known as D–Day. Under Eisenhower's command,
more than 150,000 Allied troops stormed onto the beaches of Normandy and helped recapture Paris.

Dwight Eisenhower was also known as Ike. Eisenhower would climb the ranks throughout his

only five years. During his career he would earn up to five stars. Known as a well respected leader.
Going along with his five star career he has lead multiple organisations. To Start of World War two

History would be altered entirely just by one person not being part of history. If Dwight Eisenhower
was never born, did not want to be in the military, or died too soon the war would be different. There
would be a missing general. All the thoughts of Defeating the Axis powers would not have existed.
The operations would be performed different with a different leader and outcome. We could still be
in the war because of key battles like D–Day Eisenhower performed. Over all it is hard to imagine
history altered or what could have been because of one event or person missing from history, the
options are as limited as your imagination.

Abstract: The report is on our 34th President of the United States. Eisenhower went from growing

Eisenhower grew up in a small town becoming a star football player in high school. After high
school Eisenhower picked up a job working at a creamery with his father, and being a moonlight
firefighter. In 1911 Eisenhower found himself joining the United States Military Academy where he
had also became a star football player. In 1915 he graduated from West Point, and commissioned as
Second Lieutenant ("biography.com"). Eisenhower got married to Mamie Geneva Doud, with whom

when the Eisenhowers' firstborn son, Doud Dwight, died of scarlet fever at the age of 3. Mamie
gave birth to a second son, John Sheldon Doud, in 1922 Eisenhower assumed the role of executive
officer to General Fox Conner in the Panama Canal Zone. In 1924, at Conner's urging, Eisenhower
applied to the Army's prestigious graduate school, the Command and General Staff School at Ft.
