Drywall, also known as plasterboard or gypsum wallboard, is a building material made of a paper liner wrapped around a core of gypsum plaster. It is lightweight, easy to install, and allows for smooth surfaces that make painting and installation of pipes and cables simpler and cheaper than other materials. Profiles made of galvanized steel are used to construct and support drywall partitions and suspended ceilings, with vertical studs, horizontal runners, main ceiling channels, furring channels, and wall angles providing structure.
