Overall life span (LS) was 1671.7±1721.6 days and cumulative 5YS reached 62.4%, 10 years – 50.4%, 20 years – 44.6%. 94 LCP lived more than 5 years without cancer (LS=2958.6±1723.6 days), 22 – more than 10 years (LS=5571±1841.8 days). 67 LCP died because of LC (LS=471.9±344 days). AT significantly improved 5YS (68% vs. 53.7%) (P=0.028 by log-rank test). Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: N0-N12, T3-4, blood cell circuit, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells-CC and blood cells subpopulations), LC cell dynamics, recalcification time, heparin tolerance, prothrombin index, protein, AT, procedure type (P=0.000-0.031). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and N0-12 (rank=1), thrombocytes/CC (rank=2), segmented neutrophils/CC (3), eosinophils/CC (4), erythrocytes/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), stick neutrophils/CC (8), leucocytes/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (error=0.000; area under ROC curve=1.0).

DRV
View, capture & share in 3D
02 |
The Deep Reality Viewer (DRV) offers unique, glasses-free stereoscopic 3D
display technology, combining natural visualisation with outstanding depth
perception.
Designed and manufactured in the UK, the DRV was developed by Vision
Engineering, who have more than 60 years’ experience in the design and
manufacture of optical and digital instruments for ergonomic microscopy.
Precision manufactured to the highest quality, the DRV offers a fantastic
ergonomic advantage and is a unique teaching tool. It offers trainee
ophthalmologists the opportunity to practice and refine surgical techniques
in 3D, glasses-free.
3. IMPROVED COMFORT & EFFICIENCY
REFINE SURGICAL SKILLS
Glasses-free visualisation
The unique technology behind the DRV’s stereo image presentation
overcomes the need for polarised glasses by projecting independent
optical channels to the user’s eyes, replicating natural stereo vision and
perception of depth.
Ergonomic design
Boasting an ergonomic ‘heads up’ design, the DRV allows the user to
comfortably perform, demonstrate and supervise surgical simulations
in high 3D magnification. The full HD display image is delivered at an
ergonomically optimised angle to support good posture and reduce back
and neck strain.
An innovative surgical teaching tool
The ergonomic design of the microscope system improves operator
comfort meaning that the user can practice for longer periods whilst
remaining comfortable. Sub-specialty procedures for glaucoma, retina,
cataract and corneal surgery can be rehearsed and refined to ensure com-
petence and confidence.
During surgical training, the teacher traditionally observes the trainee’s work
using a mono teaching tube or viewing a 2D image on a monitor. The DRV
enables the teacher to view the stereo image in real time to supervise the
trainee or, alternatively, the teacher can perform demonstrations for the
student to view in 3D.
The zoom microscope module allows adjustment of the viewing angle,
which when combined with a special holder to mount the model eye, better
simulates the position and angle of the patient’s eye for trainees to practice
MIGS skills, such as trabeculectomy.

FOCUSED ON QUALITY
FANTASTIC TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES
USER TESTIMONY
View in real time with no latency
The DRV enables the user to view the stereo image in real time with no
noticeable latency, allowing comfortable and accurate co-observation.
Live stereo video can be streamed from one DRV to another, allowing
multiple users to view in 3D, in real time, or videos can be recorded in
stereo for later review. It is also possible for one channel to be streamed
to an external 2D or 3D screen for audience viewing.
In addition, the DRV allows a teacher to demonstrate surgical procedures
at the same magnification as students will view on the screen.
» “A major objective of our surgical simulation
suite is to equip trainees for real surgery by using
technologies that replicate actual clinical situations
as closely as possible. Whilst searching for such
equipment I came across the DRV. The full 3D HD
images offer a clear advantage over traditional
binocular eyepiece microscopes, with a better
user experience due to the heads-up posture.
“Our trainees are now able to gain the advantage
of performing surgical simulation tasks in a more
ergonomic way, including viewing high magnification
3D images without the need for additional glasses.
Vision Engineering’s DRV has been an extremely
valuable addition to our dry-lab and I believe that it
represents an ideal technology for use in similar
ophthalmology training simulation situations.” «
David Lockington, MB BCh BAO (Hons) FRCOphth PhD
Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology’s surgical simulation suite,
Gartnavel General Hospital, Glasgow.
A unique slit lamp teaching tool
The DRV can also be used in conjunction with the Haag-Streit BQ 900 slit
lamp. The system enables co-observation for teaching, either in real-time
or recorded for later review. A stereo camera positioned between the slit
lamp optics and eyepieces allows simultaneous viewing of the optical
stereo image in the slit lamp and the digital image in the DRV.
High-quality & precision mechanics
Vision Engineering prides itself on delivering high-quality products,
precision mechanics and superb optics. The DRV is certified for the
quality management system ISO 9001:2015. Understanding that reliability
is imperative in the medical industry, Vision Engineering ensure that the
DRV is manufactured to the highest possible quality.
The DRV is supported by a counter-balanced, gas-springed assisted
stand which offers 150mm vertical travel. Fully-adjustable, optimised
illumination is available using an easy-to-use remote keypad.
