You can perform a traditional upgrade, or you can migrate the data from the old site to a brand new site. In this session I will show how you can use these methods and discuss their benefits and drawbacks, including a thought process to go through when evaluating these options, drawing from some recent projects.

1. The workshop will cover Docker, managing environments, database changes, and automated deployments for eZPublish websites.
2. A Docker stack is proposed that includes containers for Apache, MySQL, Solr, PHP, and other tools to replicate a production environment for development. Configuration and code are mounted as volumes.
3. Managing environments involves storing settings in the code repository and using symlinks to deploy different configurations. Database changes should be managed via migration scripts rather than connecting directly to a shared database.
4. Automating deployments is important and involves tasks like updating code, the database, caches and reindexing content. The same deployment script should be used for development and production. Testing websites is also recommended.

Lessons Learned Running Hadoop and Spark in Docker Containers
Many initiatives for running applications inside containers have been scoped to run on a single host. Using Docker containers for large-scale production environments poses interesting challenges, especially when deploying distributed big data applications like Apache Hadoop and Apache Spark. This session at Strata + Hadoop World in New York City (September 2016) explores various solutions and tips to address the challenges encountered while deploying multi-node Hadoop and Spark production workloads using Docker containers.
Some of these challenges include container life-cycle management, smart scheduling for optimal resource utilization, network configuration and security, and performance. BlueData is "all in” on Docker containers—with a specific focus on big data applications. BlueData has learned firsthand how to address these challenges for Fortune 500 enterprises and government organizations that want to deploy big data workloads using Docker.

Dries famous sentence (http://buytaert.net/one-drupal-to-rule-them-all) is becoming a reality for many organisations from small shops to the enterprise space. More and more stakeholders are following the idea of standardising their online presence in Drupal and leverage the same code and infrastructure amongst their different sites. What they are seeking is a drastic reduction in the time needed to create, launch and configure a Drupal site at the same time that they reduce the maintenance effort of the whole sites' network.
To achieve it, a drastic change needs to happen on the standardisation of development processes, more strict control of the overall architecture while supporting new changes and requirements, and repeatable and trustable deployment process to avoid the opposite pitfall of "one site to break them all".
In this session we will look to what needs to be thought when creating such an architecture from the development process to the infrastructure to host the different environments needed. We will look at different solutions that allow maintain these sites factories and walk you through several architectures explaining their advantages and differences.
Finally, we will look in detail to Acquia's Cloud Site Factory, a fully-hosted SaaS solution that allows organisations to quickly deploy and manage websites by the hundreds. Pre-define site templates, create new sites in a single click, manage roles and permissions across sites and connect to existing analytics and data systems.

What is Drupal good for? That’s easy: Content management. Most people know that, but did you know that Drupal is also good at sharing that content? Using a couple of key modules, you can turn your Drupal-powered site into a full-fledged API or web service. By serving your content out in this manner you are freeing it! Now other applications and web pages can query against your site and pull out that content.
This is highly useful for those attempting to achieve the “Create Once, Publish Everywhere” strategy so popularized by NPR. You can leverage Drupal’s content type capabilities to create authoritative, canonical editions of copy that you write and update in only one location, but that will update in any place that is consuming the content. Some examples include articles, buildings, rooms, lending devices, people, etc. Create or change the content on Drupal and the changes are seen immediately by every app and page that’s consuming the data.
Responsive Approaches: Redesigning websites for Duke, NCSU & UNC Libraries
In the last academic year, staff at Duke, NCSU and UNC Libraries redesigned their web presence to create more modern and user-centered sites. Staff at each institution had the same fundamental goal -- improve their website for their researchers -- but each approached the significant undertaking from a different perspective, incorporating research, communication strategies and assessment techniques most appropriate for their libraries and clientele. During this session, staff closely involved with the website redesigns at Duke, NCSU and UNC Libraries will describe their redesign process, the key changes they implemented, and their plans to maintain reliable, current and user-focused websites.

Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.

A data warehouse is a central relational database that contains all measurements about a business or an organisation. This data comes from a variety of heterogeneous data sources, which includes databases of any type that back the applications used by the company, data files exported by some applications, or APIs provided by internal or external services.
But designing a data warehouse correctly is a hard task, which requires gathering information about the business processes that need to be analysed in the first place. These processes must be translated into so-called star schemas, which means, denormalised databases where each table represents a dimension or facts.
We will discuss these topics:

- Understanding dictionaries and how to identify business entities;

- 5. some potenEal opEons for managing drupal projects • put all the things in the drupal file tree in a repo • whole file tree + git submodules for core + contrib code • create many repos for the many custom modules and themes in your drupal file tree – (and figure out how to handle seWngs.php, .htaccess and /sites/all/libraries modificaEons)
- 6. sEll the problem of updaEng the database aYer updaEng core and contrib
- 7. how we are doing it • just managing all of our own code in one repo (modules, theme, .htaccess mods, libraries…) • aggressive giEgnore for stuff drush can take care of • use features and strongarm modules for storing as much db config in code as possible • drush sql-‐sync to keep dev environments in sync with live dbs
- 8. a “base build” or “the upstream” • created a base build that contains the common theme, module, and other custom code that drush wouldn’t be used to manage
- 9. the basic idea 1. clone the base build and install via bash script 2. new project gets 2 remotes: origin and upstream 3. projects are developed on origin 4. periodic fetching and merging of upstream (devs noEfied when changes occur via Slack) 5. drush adds/manages/updates core, contrib
