Timmy Monologue
I hesitantly approach the single closed door in the empty hallway. The laughter of campers had filled
the dormitory just a while before; however, now that midnight was closing in, it had transformed into
a serious atmosphere. The silence pounds louder than the shrieking bunch of kids at the peak of their
puberty. Hey, is everything okay in here? I ask as I knock, but receive no response other than muffled
cries. Poking my head into the room, I switch on the lights. Scanning the room, I notice someone
buried under their sheets on the twin bed to the right. I realize that we re not alone; a head counselor is
in the back grading my performance. Her presence immediately makes me ten times more nervous. As
I redirect my attention back the unknown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If someone walks in at that moment, they would think we re five year olds who have just let off a
color bomb. Woah, this is Timmy s! Look at how pretty it came out, I gasp as I take the tie dyed cloth
out of its zip lock bag. I unravel all the rubber bands which bound the cloths in its specific folds and
soak it in the sink, watching the aesthetic streams of color fume into the water. Rinsing each dyed
fabric until no more pigment came out, we lay them across the bathroom counter to dry and start on
another batch of ten. Halfway through scrubbing the color out of the second group, Elissa goes and
checks on the previous ones we ve finished. How are they? I ask, excited to hear how they turn out.
Kara! All of a sudden, she slumps down onto the floor and stares at the cloth with an emotionless face.
I put down what I m working on and turn around, devastated by the sight I saw. Oh, my lord, I say
under my breath, leaning my head against the wall. Although we had already been washing these
bandanas with perusal, making sure the color gets out thoroughly, they somehow manage to drip all
over the counter and onto the bathroom

Effects Of Greenhouse Emissions On The Planet s Climate
I. Introductory Paragraph A. An overwhelming amount of evidence points to the fact that mankind s
actions, specifically the emission of greenhouse gasses are having drastic effects on the planet s
climate. B. In America, Industry, in general is responsible for twenty percent of all greenhouse
emissions C. However, many people believe that this number can be greatly reduced by implementing
cap and trade on carbon emissions. D. Some people believe that cap and trade is the most
environmentally and economically sensible approach to controlling greenhouse gas emissions. The
cap sets a limit on greenhouse emissions that a company can release. This cap is lowered over time to
reduce emissions. Then the trade allows companies to trade their emissions. So for example if
company A has very low emissions compared to company B who has high emissions. Company A can
trade Company B the emissions that they have not used up. This essentially would create a market for
emissions while at the same time lowering emissions. This system would allow industry leaders to
plan for a future that is sustainable without hurting their profit margin too much and the amount of
emissions released could not be monitored. E. Implementing cap and trade would reap many
environmental benefits however there is an opposition that would like to resist cap and trade, as they
believe it would hinder business.

How The Family Influence In Joyce Carol Oates Where Are...
In Joyce Carol Oates Where are you going, where have you been, family influence is shown to be a
key factor in the molding of a child s character, who they are. Connie, the protagonist of Oates short
story, missed out on this key due to lack in positive family influence. Connie, insecure and vulnerable,
was led straight into the arms of Arnold, because her family belittled her, caused her dual personality
and omitted proper guidance.
First of all, Connie s parents played no role in improving her self image. Connie s mother, having aged
out of her prime, was jealous of her daughter s beauty, criticizing her whenever the opportunity
presented itself. Connie s mother would yell at her younger daughter, Stop gawking at yourself, who
are you? You think you re so pretty? (312). This constant scolding chipped away at Connie s
confidence, leaving her yearning for affirmation, someone to say she is such a pretty girl ... Show

Much like a corrupted computer file, Connie created a new image, one that broke away from the
corrupted indoor Connie, Everything about her had two sides to it, one for home and one for anywhere
that was not home (313). Proving that life could be better, Connie went out shopping or to a movie
often, not because they provided temporary entertainment to kill time, but to watch as boys want her.
One night in midsummer they ran across [to a restaurant], breathless with daring, and right away
someone leaned out a car window and invited them over, but it was just a boy from high school they
didn t like. It made them feel good to be able to ignore him (313). Knowing that someone wanted her
satisfied her need to be praised. However, this left her vulnerable to people who prayed on the
insecurities of others. Arnold Friend was quick to discover the psychological conflict of living a split

The Traditional Parental Figure In The Power Of One By...
Everyone has, whether it s a parent, grandparent, or older sibling, a person in their life who influenced
them to the point of changing. In The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay, Peekay lacks the traditional
parental figure that most people have, and instead crosses paths with many different influential people
over the course of the book. This put Peekay at an advantage because he was able to see the world
through different perspectives, the perspectives of those who mentored him. He learned from people
of all walks of life, which led to him being unbiased and open minded. Peekay also was at an
advantage because he had to learn to think for himself. His mentors helped him with this, but the lack
of a true parent forced him to learn this early on and master it by time he was older. Finally, each of
Peekay s mentors had something different to offer, a different key piece of advice, that gave him a set
of morals to live by. Thus, his lack of a traditional parental figure facilitated his maturity and helped
him to obtain the power of one. Peekay was mentored by people from all different walks of life, which
resulted in him being a very unprejudiced and unbiased character, even at a young age. Peekay was
mentored by a white librarian, a mixed prisoner, a middle aged professional boxer, and an old german
professor. None of these people had anything in common except for their love and concern for Peekay.
Peekay saw each of them for their hearts and character, not their race.

Pierre Bourdieu
Bourdieu Pierre Bourdieu s theories of social power centered around the stratification of the class
structure. He explained that a person s habitus (mental filter) is shaped by the practices and behaviours
that surround them. He is clear to state that one s habitus is not created individually, but is acquired
through the internalization of the interactions around them. This habitus in turn shapes how a person
sees the world and how they present themselves in it (Appelrouth Edles, 2016, p. 448). Similar to
standpoint theory, Bourdieu believed that an individual s viewpoint is determined by their position
within a social space or field. In Practical Reason: On the Theory of Action , Bourdieu states that,
Social space is constructed in such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the family is the primary field in which a child gains cultural capital, Bourdieu claimed that
this becomes institutionalized in the education system. When evaluating educational capital, he
explains that it is not simply a result of schooling, but states that academic capital is in fact the
guaranteed product of the combined effects of cultural transmission by the family ad cultural
transmission by the school (the efficiency of which depends on the amount of cultural capital directly
inherited from the family). (Bourdieu, 1996, p. 23). In addition, Bourdieu pointed out that although
schools claim to be meritocratic institutions that judge based on individual aptitudes, they are actually
duplicating social stratification by basing rewards on cultural capital and hereditary privileges. In this
way, the education system is unfair because it duplicates existing social

Richard Avedon was born in New York City on May 15, 1923. He grew up both of their parents that
were already involved in the fashion industry with his mother named Anna Avedon who worked as a
dress manufacturer, and his father Jacob Israel Avedon who owned a clothing store called Avedon s

inspired him and develop his interest in fashion. He especially enjoyed taking pictures of the clothes in
his father s store. He was only 12 when he joined the Camera Club called YMHA (Young Men s
Hebrew Association) He was truly inspired to start his photography since he was really young, it
begins with when his father and him were walking down Fifth Avenue and looking at the store
windows he saw a bald man taking picture of a beautiful model posing against a tree. He lifted his
head, adjusted her dress a little bit and took some photographs. Later, I saw the picture in Harper s
Bazaar. I didn t understand why he d taken her against that tree until I got to Paris a few years later:
the tree in front of the Plaza had that same peeling bark you see all over the Champs Elysees. Avedon

Q1: Once the decision was made to introduce the complete male product and to advertise it according
to the plan, what was the impact on profit in 1966(before taxes) of selling 30 tons at a retail price of
Cr. 8.20?
The impact on profit in 1966(before taxes) is the Contribution Margin of selling 30 tons.
Contribution margin = revenue variable costs.
The incremental cost in this case is all the cost elements in E1 or E2 except the labor cost and the
transportation and storage cost. That is because the labor is not not a volume dependent element. Also,
the transportation and storage is not part of the incremental cost because the company was operating

On the other hand, the marketing department allocation cost of 0.54 is not reasonable too because they
want to use the same amount as for the old product. The allocated fixed expenses for the new product
should be not more than a dollar and not less than 0.70 cent per 1 kg of the complete meal.
Q7: What is your recommendation to management regarding the new complete meal product for
1967?
If the company decided to sell the new product at price of D.Cr. 8.20, that means the full fixed
expense of 1.20 is covered and the company will make high profit. However, the selling price of D.Cr.
8.20 is very high and under this price the company will sell the new product at a lower volume than
what the company planned sale volume in the budget and that will affect the company in the market as
a strong competitor in the food manufacturing. According to the case, the company sales volume drop
to 30 tons when the product was sold at the price of D.Cr. 8.2. Thus, my recommendation are as
follows:
1 Th firm should introduce the new complete meal at price of D.Cr. 6.85 because the price will raise
the demand and generate high profit for the company.
2 The firm should advertise for the new complete meal

How does the use of prescription drug influence high schoolers in California?

Prescription drugs are influencing kids in the high schools of California, causing many negative
effects in the body of kids, unlike other cities in the U.S and Europe where the number of reported
cases are lower. In Southern California the use of prescription drugs has skyrocketed, In 2014 the
number of cases involving the prescription drug opioid, a popular pain killer, consisted of 11,638 as

As the sun starts to go down an angler stands waist deep in the murky green waters of the Mississippi
River. He anxiously awaits for the right moment to grasp onto his next big catch. All of the sudden, he
reaches into the water and he feels his whole arm being swallowed by a massive fish eating machine.
The angler struggles as the fish fights back and wants to let go but not on his watch. He lifts his arm

method is better known as noodling. It is a common fishing practice used to catch flathead catfish in

Graphic Display Research Paper
There are many facets that contribute to the idea of display, and these can be expanded on even further
when considered alongside the intricacies that surround the curation of any type of display. Numerous
aspects of everyday life are put together with intention, whether it be in order to sell something, create
structure, or to make certain tasks easier. These aims are hidden at times, especially in the world of
advertising where, even though it is now common knowledge that items tend to be marketed towards
specific people, imagery is having a large impact on the way in which time and money is spent.
Outside of the defined walls of the art world that curators are often associated with, small parts of
everyday life are organized similarly to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Contemporary museums and galleries often enlist the aid of guest curators for the creation of
exhibitions because of their specific artistic insights and ability to bring together complementary
people and projects. Hans Ulrich Obrist (2014) talks of curation today as an important job when it
comes to creating shows that go beyond representing facts and knowledge. It has become a means for
producing great experiences for people, and not only the audiences who visit these events. Artists
involved can benefit from interactions with a curator they work with that understands their needs and
can successfully work with them. Existing notions of curation include making judgements and
creative decisions, and being a part of several areas that feed into public establishments such as
galleries, including the marketing and management of events, and use of them for the purposes of
education and even conservation (Arnold, 2015). This is much more involved in comparison to some
history of display and earlier precursors to galleries and museums (which are important to even briefly
consider as they help to inform the present state of these institutions). In The history of museums ,
Lewis (2015) discusses how there has, for centuries, been a tendency for humans to collect and
question pieces of the world around them, and that this apparently universal need has long held
religious, economic, and cultural connections depending on time and

HIV
Approximately 1.2 million people are living with HIV in the United States alone. Of those 1.2 million,
13 percent did not know they were infected (Basic Statistics, 2016). These numbers are very startling.
HIV, or Human Immunodeficiency Virus, attacks the body s immune system, more specifically its T
cells. With HIV weakening the immune system it can lead to a greater risk for infection, and
eventually Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). The immune system is not an actual
system in the body but more a process of the body. The immune system works through the body s
lymphatic system. The human s lymphatic system is an incredible and intricate factory, working day
and night to keep the body free of foreign pathogens, bacteria, viruses, and other unwanted guests.
Composed of lymph nodes and vessels, carrying lymph and waste though the body to be disposed of,
its job is to locate and get rid of anything that has the potential to do damage to the body, or get rid of
something that s just not supposed to be there. One specific part of the lymphatic system that helps
with the body s defense against foreign pathogens is the T lymphocytes, or T cells. These cells are
made and matured in the thymus, which is significantly larger in children because of the developing
and adapting immune systems. The body has several different types of T cells. The functions of the T
cells are to fight against pathogens in several

Types Of Contingencies, Designing A Contingency, And Owner...
According to Gunhan and Arditi (2007), there were three types of contingencies, namely designer s
contingency, contractor s contingency, and owner s contingency. They claimed that the best method to
predict contingency was to use previous experiences. They mentioned that a detailed study of four
factors, namely site conditions, schedule constraints, project scope, and constructability issues could
play an important role either in preventing the CO or reducing the chances of needing a big
contingency money. Smith et al. (1999) stated that the wise decision on the amount of contingency
used while bidding could have effects on whether wining of the contract. They interviewed 12
contractors on the contingency calculation method and found that among these contractors, nobody
was aware of any kind of estimation method for the contingency amount. Whenever, these contractors
used contingency, they simply followed the traditional approach of adding some percentages to the
base cost as contingencies. Mac and Picken (2000) conducted a study on two types of projects, namely
estimating using risk analysis (ERA) and non ERA projects. They made comparison between 45 ERA
projects with 287 non ERA projects and found that ERA method helped to reduce the unnecessary risk
allowances in projects. According to the authors, Hong Kong government was implementing this ERA
technique in public construction projects. In the ERA method, they described that the cost determined

The Fundamental Principle Of Inclusive Schooling
Meeting children s needs is a vital aspect of teaching whereby the needs of all children must be taken
into consideration. Teacher s professional practice is developed over time in various ways, for
example through experience and reflection (Tack et al, 2014). My professional practice was informed
by Meeting Children s Needs module as it educated me on how to assist children to become successful
learners. This can be achieved through various strategies that meet the diverse needs of every child.
The National Curriculum (National Curriculum, 2000) has at times been ambiguous on the matter of
inclusion as it is a contentious term. A prominent philosophy within education was that children had to
adapt themselves to classroom learning in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence it is important that schools embrace diversity to ensure effective learning of all takes place.
Each child is special and as a practitioner working with children I have to be aware of all issues
surrounding children s lives as outside factors affect learning. This essay will focus on the case studies
of Charlotte and Pinkesh to illustrate how these case studies educated me on how to deal with children
in similar situations and how my professional practice has been developed. These concepts of meeting
children s needs prepared me for my SEL experience in many ways. Firstly, it allowed me to
understand the importance of inclusion and how this was crucial to effective learning. One pupil I
profiled was Jake; not given a SEN statement, however the teacher ensured she differentiated, in turn
enhancing his learning. Jake was very capable but he had behavioural issues and suffered from low
self esteem: very shy and liked working on his own. After his work was completed he would act out.
This behaviour was similar to the case study of Charlotte as her behaviour deteriorated for attention.
Charlotte just like Jake had low self esteem; these children need to be given challenging work so they
can reach their full potential. Maslow points to the importance of self esteem and as a need by all to
feel valued (Maslow, 1954, p.91). Banks has argued that having good

Analysis of Alice Munro s How I Met My Husband
All of it is clear to a person who has understanding and right to those who have acquired knowledge.
(Proverbs 8:6 9)
Alice Munro gives a good example of the meaning of this in her story How I Met My Husband . The
theme of this story is under certain circumstances people can sometimes be blind to the truth.
The main character, Edie, provides the narration of the story from a first person point of view. She
tells her story based on an event from her past. Because she narrates the story the reader is unable to
be sure if what she tells of the other characters is completely accurate. Because one does not hear
other character s thoughts one could question whether Edie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

She was very responsible for her age because she took care of the Peebleses two children and of their
house. Yet, she was uneducated and did not know much about love or boys. She told of how she
longed for a boyfriend or someone to kiss. Sometimes when you want things bad enough you begin to
believe they are true. For example, because Edie really wanted someone to love her, she really
believed Chris would send her a letter. However, if she would have examined his prior actions, like
how he treated Alice, Edie could have come to the conclusion that there would be no letter.
Another character important in the story was Chris. He was a soldier in the war. Supposedly, he was
engaged to Alice but from the way he treated her, one would question it. Also, he was cowardly
because he ran away from her rather than telling her how he truly felt, he said, ...A plane can get
further than a car . Also, the reader may believe he is running away from his feelings because of
something deeper. Maybe the war had injured him emotionally or mentally. These factors will
definitely make it hard to discover what is true.
Also, the character of Alice has some interesting meaning to the story. The character of Alice may be
modeled after the author Alice Munro because they have shared similar experiences between men.
Apparently, the author had been through a divorce and many of the

But this isn t the first time the team has tried to prevent fans from enjoying a game. Last year during

Bullet Proof Armor History
History
The first bullet proof armor was invented in 1897 by Korea and the Japan, it was made
of 30 layers of silk, which in that day could stop a black powder bullet it was nicknamed soft
armor. But then when firearms became more powerful it became useless. So a priest from
Chicago made it better by weaving 1.6mm steel plate between four layers of silk, he proved it
was bullet proof by having a man shoot at his chest from 10 paces (25 feet) away with a 44.
Caliber handgun, when it hit him he said he only felt a tap. So the inventor tried to make a life

(Caitlin, 2016)
The vest stops the force of the bullet from hitting you and going into you, it will disperse
the bullets energy across the entire Kevlar panel. If this didn t happen the bullet would hit you
and cause serious damage to the area you were shot in. So that is the reason they make the
entire vest in one piece, so it can take that force of energy from the bullet and make It spread
throughout the vest. (company, 2016)
How effective is it?
Kevlar is what soldiers use today, they can stop some handgun bullets. Such as a 9mm
which has a smaller amount of kinetic energy and a lower velocity, but with a higher caliber
handgun such as a .44 magnum, it has more weight to the bullet which means a larger amount
of kinetic energy and a higher velocity, so you would need up to 30 layers of Kevlar. (Allred,
2015)
How would I improve it?
The improvements I would make would be to make a material that was made of a
strong medal that stops bullets, then I would mix it with a flexible compound to make the

Pros And Cons Of The North American Free Trade Agreement
The North American Free Trade Agreement, or N.A.F.T.A, was established to improve the economy of
the United States, Mexico, and Canada. It has been close to twenty three years since the treaty was
officially signed; time has given us insight into the effects that this agreement has produced. In 1984,
lowering tariff was a major discussion between Mulroney, Prime Minister of Canada, and President
Ronald Reagan. They came to an agreement in 1988 making it official for these countries to trade
more efficiently with one another. Soon enough Mexico was interested in bringing a similar treaty

Canada saw the opportunity for the three countries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Those negative effects end up hurting us in return as people are settling for less due to all the cheap

Analysis Of The Movie China Boy And John Maxwell Coetzee...
The role of motherhood is iconic; with expectations of nurturance and altruistic acts of love which are
difficult to live up to. Charged with giving selflessly and expected to love to the point of abandoning
their own needs; mothers are simultaneously expected to expertly navigate the process of initially
having an intense, all encompassing relationship with their offspring to gradually letting go and
encouraging their child s independent development. While error is expected and surmountable;
maternal abandonment and rejection result in dire consequences for children to overcome. In the
following two stories, Gus Lee s China Boy and John Maxwell Coetzee s Life and Times of Michael

During her illness and death, Michael takes on a nurturing role; caring for her and seeing to it that she
is respectfully buried.
Perhaps it was out of an unmet desire for his absent mother, or because he had been secluded, from all
but her presence so early in life, which led to Michael K s having developed an enmeshed relationship
with his mother. Unfortunately, this inhibits his ability to interact with the world on his own and he
appears incapable of communicating the intensity of their bond or to express an emotional response
outside of this relationship. His task is to learn how to separate from his mother and develop into a
separate individual.
Due to his life experiences, Michael is perplexed when his friend says: People must help each other,
that s what I believe (Coetzee 48). After thinking about if he has beliefs or might help people, he
concludes: Do I believe in helping people? . . . Perhaps I am the stony ground, he thought (Coetzee
48). Yet, clearly Michael is compassionate certainly in the treatment of his mother, whom he cares for
with a sense of duty and dignity that she never gave to him:

Athenian Imperialism and her Changing Relations with Allies
Nature of Athenian Imperialism
Changing Relations with Allies
Lars Hoogvliet
After the conclusion of the Persian Wars (492 479BC) with Athens being the true victor, and before
the Peloponnesian War, a period of prosperity covered Athens, and they needed to devise new ways to
protect themselves and expand their wealth, and how this would affect their relations with allies.
The Athenians and their Allies was an organisation led by the Athenians in the 5th century, but is now
referred to as the Delian League or the Confederacy of Athens.
The official aim of the League was, according to Thucydides, to compensate themselves for their
losses [of the Persian War] by ravaging the territory of the King of Persia. The long term aim of ...

The besiegement of Thasos revealed Athens true motivations behind the League and the future plans
for her allies. According to _Ancient Greece Using Sources_ Thasos was one of the largest and richest
members of the Delian League, and a conflict broke out between Athens and Thasos over the gold
mining on the island. Thasos then attempted to withdraw from the League, as the Persians were no
longer a threat in the Aegean, and Athens was demanding too much for too little in return.
The League, under the control of Cimon, then besieged Thasos for two years, and destroyed their city
walls, confiscated their navy, closed their mint and annexed their possessions on the mainland.
According to Thucydides, the period from the revolt of Thasos to the ostracism of Cimon (465
461BC) was the time when the main friction between Sparta and Athens occurred and eventually led
to their war.
If Sparta really was willing to attack Athens, an apparent ally, then their relationship must have been
weak and forced. Was Sparta jealous of Athens wealth and power? Did they feel threatened by the
Athenians sudden harshness against their own allies ? Or it could have been a combination of reasons.
Thucydides didn t help either when his pro Athenian feelings got the better of him, this was a time
when Sparta was particularly friendly to Athens because of the courage displayed by Athens against
the Persians.
Another case of conflict between

Persuasive Essay Against Animal Testing
Imagine an animal locked in a dark cage, alone without food or water, with a deadly disease infecting
its body, having to watch other animals being experimented on. These animals have zero control of
what is about to happen, and they will never know if today is their last day. This is the situation that
happens when animals are the subject of tests. Many of these animals are suffering with diseases and
possibly growing tumors the size of their bodies. Worldwide, 24 animals die every minute in
laboratories. Every year, 100 million animals die from such test.
These tests are unethical, unnecessary, and is bad science. Mice, fish, rabbits, rats, guinea pigs,
hamsters, farm animals, birds, cats, and dogs are just a few of the animals that are being tested on.
Many of these animals become blind after tests that consist of eyeliner, hand soap, food ingredients,
and medicines. These animals are dying inhumanely, and it needs to stop. PETA scientist stated, Life
in a cage is no life at all (PETA). So why, as humans, do we find it acceptable to put them through all
this suffering?
The United States of America allows laboratories to test on animals. Many times testing includes but
is not limited to: starving, isolating, drowning, being burnt, shocked, brain damaged, and addicted to
drugs. Animal testing is very ineffective due to animals not getting the same diseases as humans. Also,
the testing leaves permanent damage to the animals. Blindness, burning skin, and brain damage are

The Major Problems Of Population Overcrowding In Canada
Problems of Population Overcrowding
The day when population of GTA reach its maximum may be just around corner. Where and why are
people concentrated in GTA? Most people tend to live in cities rather than sub urban areas due to
amenities, job opportunities, infrastructure and educational facilities. Also, immigrants are the major
reason why the population overcrowded in cities. According to the Government of Ontario, over the
past
20 years, the target range of immigrants has been increased gradually. For example, the target range of
immigrants was 280,000 to 320,000 in 2017 and 260,000 to 285,000 in 2016. These numbers are
about
0.75 per cent of total population in Canada each year. (Ministry of Finance, 2007). These factors cause
population overcrowding in GTA and it may lead to several problems such as traffic jams, housing
bubbles and the rise in the homeless rate. These problems can be solved by moving infrastructure,
regulating using a car once a week and implementing training programs.
These days, some people believe that traffic jams occur more often than before. The Toronto
Transit System is slowing down due to heavy traffic. Statistics Canada stated that the number of
vehicles registered in the Control Vehicle System is 18,608,297 in 2005. But, in 2017, the number of
vehicles registered in Ontario is 11,948,296, which is almost two third of number in 2005. (Statistics
Canada, 2017).

The World Of 1947 Through 1991 Essay
The world of 1947 through 1991 was a very different than the world that we live in today. During this
time many things events took place, including the conclusion of the Second World War and the
development of the nuclear arms race. It was in the tumultuous time that the Space Race began. Each
side had thought that their side was superior. In fact each side could really say that about themselves,
each had their own view. Lifestyles of the American Astronauts and the Russian Cosmonauts differed
in the ways that only can be found by comparing the two cultures and upbringings. Control
methodology was also a point that these two countries disagreed on when it came to their spacecraft.
Rockets used by each side of the Race were developed as time went on. And finally the Space Race
came to an end with the Apollo Soyuz Test Project, marking the end of the Apollo program, and
reducing tensions felt through the rest of the Cold War.
Focus of the paper: Family settings between the American Astronauts and Russian Cosmonauts
At the beginning of each side of the story, the reader is shown the family setting for both Scott and
Leonov. They way that they grow up each shaped the way that they viewed their world and then each

of the military and thus his family was used to moving often when he was transferred (Scott, Pg. 11).

The Rates Of 2007-2009 And The Inflation From 2002-2007
The periods that I researched were the periods between the unemployment rates of 2007 2009 and the
inflation from 2002 2007. There were many causes to the inflation in the 2002 2007. Similarly, there
were quite a few causes to the unemployment rate of 2007 2009. The business cycle looks like a roller
coaster. It begins at a peak, drops to a bottom, climbs steeply, and then reaches another peak. Through
a typical business cycle there is an increase in the general price level of goods and services in an
economy over a period of time which leads to inflation. There are also decreases in the general price
level of goods and services in an economy over a period of time. A peak in the business cycle is a

One of the most widely recognized indicators of a recession is higher unemployment rates. According
to the National Bureau of Economic Research, In December 2007, the national unemployment rate
was 5.0 percent, and it had been at or below that rate for the previous 30 months. At the end of the
recession, in June 2009, it was 9.5 percent . Of course unemployment is based on many factors which
include those who are without jobs and are actively seeking jobs, but does not include those who are
discouraged workers. Many other factors also contribute to who is termed as unemployed civilians. A
recession is a downturn in the business cycle during which real GDP declines, business profits fall, the
percentage of the workforce without jobs rises, and capacity of production is underutilized. The
employment decline experienced between the 2007 and 2009 recession was greater than that of any
recession of recent decades. The construction and manufacturing industries seen the largest percentage

prescriptions can help people alot.
Another treatment is therapy which includes counseling, support group, aversion therapy, family

1) Of all the sample materials tested during the lab, the AISI 1020 Cold Rolled Steel was found to be
the strongest. Moreover, between the two samples of AISI 1020 Cold Rolled steel, the sample without
the neck was found to be stronger. This was observed by calculating the ultimate tensile strength for
all the samples used during the experiment. As a result, the higher the ultimate tensile stress the
material endured, the stronger the material was. The ultimate tensile stress calculated for the AISI
1020 Cold Rolled was 563 MPa which was the highest of all. Therefore, concluding that the AISI
1020 Cold Rolled without a neck region was the strongest material. As for ductility, the material with
most ductility was found to be the thermoplastic polymer (HDPE). Two tests were conducted on the
HDPE samples at different speeds. As a result, the HDPE sample pulled at lower speed exhibited
greater ductility. Ductility was calculated by obtaining the percent elongation of each material sample.

ductility. The highest percent elongation obtained was 191, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Descriptive Essay On A Fall Day
Today, the weather was very humid and warm outside for mid October. It was a comfortable

was walking around the market. I m estimating that it was approximately mid to low 20 s in
temperature today, so whenever a breeze arose, it was refreshing because it was pretty warm outside. I
decided that today I would take a walk through the dessert sections of the market before going to sit
by the outdoor firepit. There were many vendors selling fudge and pastries, so this was something I
purchased because I was heading home that afternoon and I thought my family would enjoy these
treats. The firepit was not turned on today because it was fairly warm outside, but I still decided to sit
in one of the Adirondack chairs surrounding the firepit to take in everything that was happening
around me. It was very busy at the market around this time because it was the weekend, and
everybody was taking the opportunity to spend time with their families outside on the warm fall day. I
also noticed an older man performing a compilation of folk songs on the guitar, and a small group of
people huddled around the area listening to him perform. I started to become restless after sitting in
the chair for about ten minutes, so I decided to continue walking to one of the buildings at the farmer s
market. Throughout my childhood, my parents would usually take me and my sisters to St. Jacobs

The Culture of the 1920s in America Essay
The 1920s, often referred to as the Roaring Twenties, was a time of great change and a time of
powerful enthusiasm in many areas of society. The world had just finished the biggest war in history,
the First World War, and the United States was left almost unharmed by the war. The United States
was able to experience a decade of peace and success following the war. During this decade, America
became the wealthiest country in the world (Trueman, 2000). The people in the United States went
through a colorful period during the twenties. However, at the same time the 1920s was also a very

because of technology, but they were also slowly being driven into an industrial nation. People were

Gold Coast Drivers Case Study
Problem Statement
How can Gold Coast drivers contribute to the sustainability of the Great Barrier Reef whilst idling in
traffic congestion?
Gold Coast vehicle owners are currently faced with concerns relating to the amount of carbon
emissions being released into the atmosphere whilst idling in traffic congestion. This is highlighted
through their daily, lengthy car journeys caused by the increase in population. Although these carbon
emissions have a direct impact on the immediate environment it is also contributing to the decline of
coral growth on the Great Barrier Reef.
Situated along the Queensland coastline the Great Barrier Reef stretches 2,300km from the north of
Bundaberg to the tip of northern Queensland, making it the largest living structure in the world (Zell,

presented with a series of ambiguous pictures and composes a story. It is an apperception test because
the person reports not what he or she sees but rather a narrative or imaginary interpretation (Murray,
1938, p. 324). Measured by a self report test, such as the Thematic Apperception Test. The results
demonstrated significant differences. According to the American Journal of Forensic Psychology,
adolescent male sex offenders demonstrate perceptual distortion of their environment through the use
of denial as a defense mechanism. Personality characteristics varied in areas such as the internalized
values and attitudes, their external expression, and inflated self esteem. The results concluded that
adolescent sexual offender is characterized as a unique individual, a result of a stunted developmental
process. Some sex offenders have deviant fantasies and the strong desire to act on them. There have
been instances where some sexual fantasies were actually carried out. Male and female juvenile sex
offenders often exhibit behavior that is sexually abusive at a young age; some of their unfortunate and
innocent victims tend to be male, but there number of victims increases just as often as the type.

Essay on Conformity and Political Control
The political system in the United States of America is ruled by a two party system that is currently
fighting for control of the economy and government. In the last century the country has been involved
in several conflicts including two world wars and the cold war, which permanently instilled fear and
terror in the American psyche. After the terrorist attacks of September 11th, the economy was brought
to the edge of failure leaving a bi partisan political system with the attitude that there is either a
democratic or republican solution to the many problems Americans face as a nation. Due to the fact
that there is so much at stake, both political parties have resorted to tactics that prey on the fact that
human beings usually conform to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a generalization of the effect, but this geo political representation can also be shown on a
smaller or larger scale. Residents of small towns usually affiliate with the same political party and the
majority residents of a larger region will usually affiliate with the same party. This is where the idea of
the conservative south or liberal north comes from. The fact that people automatically conform to
those around them has negative repercussions in more than one political arena. The idea that people
conform to political affiliations regionally affects the way the House of Representative re draws their
district lines. This happens so frequently on the state and federal level that that practice has actually
been termed gerrymandering. Unfortunately the practice of gerrymandering practically undermines the
political process in America emphasizing the importance of which party has the majority in The House
of Representatives and taking focus away from their socio economical principles. The lawmakers of
this country utilize the fact that people will automatically conform to others around them to their
advantage creating a political system that is not truly democratic.
Politicians of both parties also take advantage of the fact that people are likely to conform due to
normative influences. Normative influences lead people to conform due to the fear or backlash of
others (Kassin, 2011, p.258).

Comparison Of Pilgrims First And Puritans
There were many reasons why English colonists decided to cross the Atlantic. Some dreamed of
owning lands and of a life improvement, others were escaping from something that was troubling
them, and some were trying to institute a way of living based on the sacred scriptures. Pilgrims first
and Puritans after tried to establish a new and much more pure form of worship. Although this two
groups had the same desire to apply the protestant reformation to the new world, certainly they differ
in so many ways. First and foremost the terms and their meanings differ. In fact, while the term
pilgrim indicates the one who made a journey for religious purposes, the term puritan defines the one
that wants to reform and purify the church. In 1620, a group

Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti
During the Victorian period, the feminism was beginning to take on a stronger voice, marking the start
of this movement. Poet Christina Rossetti embraced this, as her own principles slowly became
publicly acceptable. By creating modern female heroines, Rossetti comments on the Victorian society
that she and her feminist contemporaries wished to see altered, in Goblin Market , this voice is
evident. With the two sister, Laura and Lizzie, portrayed as innocent, pure and virginal, the goblins
take on a more malicious character; portraying that of the male figures who tempt and corrupt.
According to the Victorian definition, a gentleman never takes unfair advantage . . . or insinuates evil
which he dare not say out, and possesses, among other qualities, the ability to avoid all suspicion and
resentment (Landow 4). The goblins seem to contradict this definition of a gentleman throughout the
poem; they represent the deleterious nature of men on the lives of women. Although it can be argued
that the men of Goblin Market are wanting of sexual desires, it is evident that their only need is to take
their virtue, Once both sisters have gone to the goblins and acquired the juices of their fruits, they
have no further need of them (Mermin 291).
The poem begins with an image reflecting that of the Garden of Eden. Much like the serpent, the
goblins call the sisters to their delicious, exotic fruits, which represent the proverbial forbidden fruit
one taste and chaos ensues. Using

Essay On Cheating Infraction
On April 11, 2017, a report was filed through the Honor Code indicating my involvement in a cheating
infraction. I was participating in Charlie Nuttelman s class recitation where we must take five online
quizzes to account for a final grade. The course and quizzes are completely online, excluding the
prompt the teaching assistant gives out prior to the quiz. The prompt includes a series of codes and
questions, in addition to a few rules students must abide by during the exam. These rules include, but
are not limited to, the restriction of cheating, cell phone use, plagiarism, and resubmission.
On the day of my cheating infraction, I was particularly overstressed and anxious. By that time late in
the semester, the pressure of final grades ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have truly learned a lot about myself, morality and ethics, and the importance of integrity as a result
of this incident. This was a one time incident that occurred due to laziness and lack of respect I had for
myself, my abilities, and for the class. This will never occur again and I have truly learned my lesson.
Consequently, I have changed my behavior. I now believe in the importance of studying rather than
winging it, honoring myself and my class rather than getting by, and learning the material for the sake
of knowledge rather than to just pass it.
The Honor Code policies at various public universities hold striking similarities, and obvious
differences, to the policies set in place at the University of Colorado Boulder. To commence, the
Honor Code pledge at Colorado State University mirrors CU s pledge almost precisely: I have not
given, received, or used any unauthorized assistance (Colorado State University). However, the ways
in which CSU deals with academic misconduct vary drastically from CU s means of chastising
students. In my experience with the cheating infraction, my TA, Mona Bdewi, did not address or warn
me before going straight to Professor Nuttelman. He, then, reported me directly to the Honor Code
without giving me the chance to explain my side. Neither the TA, nor my Professor, allowed me the
opportunity to explain my side. When I heard of the

  • 2. Timmy Monologue I hesitantly approach the single closed door in the empty hallway. The laughter of campers had filled the dormitory just a while before; however, now that midnight was closing in, it had transformed into a serious atmosphere. The silence pounds louder than the shrieking bunch of kids at the peak of their puberty. Hey, is everything okay in here? I ask as I knock, but receive no response other than muffled cries. Poking my head into the room, I switch on the lights. Scanning the room, I notice someone buried under their sheets on the twin bed to the right. I realize that we re not alone; a head counselor is in the back grading my performance. Her presence immediately makes me ten times more nervous. As I redirect my attention back the unknown ... I unravel all the rubber bands which bound the cloths in its specific folds and soak it in the sink, watching the aesthetic streams of color fume into the water. Rinsing each dyed fabric until no more pigment came out, we lay them across the bathroom counter to dry and start on another batch of ten. Halfway through scrubbing the color out of the second group, Elissa goes and checks on the previous ones we ve finished. How are they? I ask, excited to hear how they turn out. Kara! All of a sudden, she slumps down onto the floor and stares at the cloth with an emotionless face. I put down what I m working on and turn around, devastated by the sight I saw. Oh, my lord, I say under my breath, leaning my head against the wall. An overwhelming amount of evidence points to the fact that mankind s actions, specifically the emission of greenhouse gasses are having drastic effects on the planet s climate. B. In America, Industry, in general is responsible for twenty percent of all greenhouse emissions C. However, many people believe that this number can be greatly reduced by implementing cap and trade on carbon emissions. D. Some people believe that cap and trade is the most environmentally and economically sensible approach to controlling greenhouse gas emissions. The cap sets a limit on greenhouse emissions that a company can release. This cap is lowered over time to reduce emissions. Then the trade allows companies to trade their emissions. So for example if company A has very low emissions compared to company B who has high emissions. Company A can trade Company B the emissions that they have not used up. This essentially would create a market for emissions while at the same time lowering emissions. This system would allow industry leaders to plan for a future that is sustainable without hurting their profit margin too much and the amount of emissions released could not be monitored. E. Implementing cap and trade would reap many environmental benefits however there is an opposition that would like to resist cap and trade, as they believe it would hinder business. II. In Joyce Carol Oates Where are you going, where have you been, family influence is shown to be a key factor in the molding of a child s character, who they are. Connie, the protagonist of Oates short story, missed out on this key due to lack in positive family influence. Connie, insecure and vulnerable, was led straight into the arms of Arnold, because her family belittled her, caused her dual personality and omitted proper guidance. First of all, Connie s parents played no role in improving her self image. Connie s mother, having aged out of her prime, was jealous of her daughter s beauty, criticizing her whenever the opportunity presented itself. Connie s mother would yell at her younger daughter, Stop gawking at yourself, who are you? You think you re so pretty? (312). This constant scolding chipped away at Connie s confidence, leaving her yearning for affirmation, someone to say she is such a pretty girl ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One night in midsummer they ran across [to a restaurant], breathless with daring, and right away someone leaned out a car window and invited them over, but it was just a boy from high school they didn t like. It made them feel good to be able to ignore him (313). Knowing that someone wanted her satisfied her need to be praised. However, this left her vulnerable to people who prayed on the insecurities of others. Arnold Friend was quick to discover the psychological conflict of living a split life in ... • 5. The Traditional Parental Figure In The Power Of One By... Everyone has, whether it s a parent, grandparent, or older sibling, a person in their life who influenced them to the point of changing. In The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay, Peekay lacks the traditional parental figure that most people have, and instead crosses paths with many different influential people over the course of the book. This put Peekay at an advantage because he was able to see the world through different perspectives, the perspectives of those who mentored him. He learned from people of all walks of life, which led to him being unbiased and open minded. Peekay also was at an advantage because he had to learn to think for himself. His mentors helped him with this, but the lack of a true parent forced him to learn this early on and master it by time he was older. Finally, each of Peekay s mentors had something different to offer, a different key piece of advice, that gave him a set of morals to live by. Thus, his lack of a traditional parental figure facilitated his maturity and helped him to obtain the power of one. Peekay was mentored by people from all different walks of life, which resulted in him being a very unprejudiced and unbiased character, even at a young age. Peekay was mentored by a white librarian, a mixed prisoner, a middle aged professional boxer, and an old german professor. None of these people had anything in common except for their love and concern for Peekay. Peekay saw each of them for their hearts and character, not their race. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Pierre Bourdieu Bourdieu Pierre Bourdieu s theories of social power centered around the stratification of the class structure. He explained that a person s habitus (mental filter) is shaped by the practices and behaviours that surround them. He is clear to state that one s habitus is not created individually, but is acquired through the internalization of the interactions around them. This habitus in turn shapes how a person sees the world and how they present themselves in it (Appelrouth Edles, 2016, p. 448). Similar to standpoint theory, Bourdieu believed that an individual s viewpoint is determined by their position within a social space or field. Although the family is the primary field in which a child gains cultural capital, Bourdieu claimed that this becomes institutionalized in the education system. When evaluating educational capital, he explains that it is not simply a result of schooling, but states that academic capital is in fact the guaranteed product of the combined effects of cultural transmission by the family ad cultural transmission by the school (the efficiency of which depends on the amount of cultural capital directly inherited from the family). (Bourdieu, 1996, p. 23). In addition, Bourdieu pointed out that although schools claim to be meritocratic institutions that judge based on individual aptitudes, they are actually duplicating social stratification by basing rewards on cultural capital and hereditary privileges. He grew up both of their parents that were already involved in the fashion industry with his mother named Anna Avedon who worked as a dress manufacturer, and his father Jacob Israel Avedon who owned a clothing store called Avedon s Fifth Avenue (Biography, n.d.) Growing up and being accustomed to fashion since he was young has inspired him and develop his interest in fashion. He especially enjoyed taking pictures of the clothes in his father s store. He was only 12 when he joined the Camera Club called YMHA (Young Men s Hebrew Association) He was truly inspired to start his photography since he was really young, it begins with when his father and him were walking down Fifth Avenue and looking at the store windows he saw a bald man taking picture of a beautiful model posing against a tree. He lifted his head, adjusted her dress a little bit and took some photographs. Later, I saw the picture in Harper s Bazaar. I didn t understand why he d taken her against that tree until I got to Paris a few years later: the tree in front of the Plaza had that same peeling bark you see all over the Champs Elysees. Q7: What is your recommendation to management regarding the new complete meal product for 1967? If the company decided to sell the new product at price of D.Cr. 8.20, that means the full fixed expense of 1.20 is covered and the company will make high profit. Graphic Display Research Paper There are many facets that contribute to the idea of display, and these can be expanded on even further when considered alongside the intricacies that surround the curation of any type of display. Numerous aspects of everyday life are put together with intention, whether it be in order to sell something, create structure, or to make certain tasks easier. These aims are hidden at times, especially in the world of advertising where, even though it is now common knowledge that items tend to be marketed towards specific people, imagery is having a large impact on the way in which time and money is spent. Contemporary museums and galleries often enlist the aid of guest curators for the creation of exhibitions because of their specific artistic insights and ability to bring together complementary people and projects. Hans Ulrich Obrist (2014) talks of curation today as an important job when it comes to creating shows that go beyond representing facts and knowledge. It has become a means for producing great experiences for people, and not only the audiences who visit these events. Artists involved can benefit from interactions with a curator they work with that understands their needs and can successfully work with them. Existing notions of curation include making judgements and creative decisions, and being a part of several areas that feed into public establishments such as galleries, including the marketing and management of events, and use of them for the purposes of education and even conservation (Arnold, 2015). This is much more involved in comparison to some history of display and earlier precursors to galleries and museums (which are important to even briefly consider as they help to inform the present state of these institutions). In The history of museums , Lewis (2015) discusses how there has, for centuries, been a tendency for humans to collect and question pieces of the world around them, and that this apparently universal need has long held religious, economic, and cultural connections depending on time and ... • 13. The Human s Lymphatic System Jacob Holloway Jennifer Reaves A P II 19 November 2016 HIV Approximately 1.2 million people are living with HIV in the United States alone. Of those 1.2 million, 13 percent did not know they were infected (Basic Statistics, 2016). These numbers are very startling. HIV, or Human Immunodeficiency Virus, attacks the body s immune system, more specifically its T cells. With HIV weakening the immune system it can lead to a greater risk for infection, and eventually Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). The immune system is not an actual system in the body but more a process of the body. The immune system works through the body s lymphatic system. The human s lymphatic system is an incredible and intricate factory, working day and night to keep the body free of foreign pathogens, bacteria, viruses, and other unwanted guests. Composed of lymph nodes and vessels, carrying lymph and waste though the body to be disposed of, its job is to locate and get rid of anything that has the potential to do damage to the body, or get rid of something that s just not supposed to be there. One specific part of the lymphatic system that helps with the body s defense against foreign pathogens is the T lymphocytes, or T cells. These cells are made and matured in the thymus, which is significantly larger in children because of the developing and adapting immune systems. The body has several different types of T cells. According to Gunhan and Arditi (2007), there were three types of contingencies, namely designer s contingency, contractor s contingency, and owner s contingency. They claimed that the best method to predict contingency was to use previous experiences. They mentioned that a detailed study of four factors, namely site conditions, schedule constraints, project scope, and constructability issues could play an important role either in preventing the CO or reducing the chances of needing a big contingency money. Smith et al. (1999) stated that the wise decision on the amount of contingency used while bidding could have effects on whether wining of the contract. They interviewed 12 contractors on the contingency calculation method and found that among these contractors, nobody was aware of any kind of estimation method for the contingency amount. Whenever, these contractors used contingency, they simply followed the traditional approach of adding some percentages to the base cost as contingencies. Mac and Picken (2000) conducted a study on two types of projects, namely estimating using risk analysis (ERA) and non ERA projects. They made comparison between 45 ERA projects with 287 non ERA projects and found that ERA method helped to reduce the unnecessary risk allowances in projects. This can be achieved through various strategies that meet the diverse needs of every child. These concepts of meeting children s needs prepared me for my SEL experience in many ways. Firstly, it allowed me to understand the importance of inclusion and how this was crucial to effective learning. One pupil I profiled was Jake; not given a SEN statement, however the teacher ensured she differentiated, in turn enhancing his learning. Jake was very capable but he had behavioural issues and suffered from low self esteem: very shy and liked working on his own. After his work was completed he would act out. This behaviour was similar to the case study of Charlotte as her behaviour deteriorated for attention. Charlotte just like Jake had low self esteem; these children need to be given challenging work so they can reach their full potential. Maslow points to the importance of self esteem and as a need by all to feel valued (Maslow, 1954, p.91). Banks has argued that having good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thasos then attempted to withdraw from the League, as the Persians were no longer a threat in the Aegean, and Athens was demanding too much for too little in return. The League, under the control of Cimon, then besieged Thasos for two years, and destroyed their city walls, confiscated their navy, closed their mint and annexed their possessions on the mainland. This was observed by calculating the ultimate tensile strength for all the samples used during the experiment. As a result, the higher the ultimate tensile stress the material endured, the stronger the material was. The ultimate tensile stress calculated for the AISI 1020 Cold Rolled was 563 MPa which was the highest of all. Therefore, concluding that the AISI 1020 Cold Rolled without a neck region was the strongest material. As a result, the HDPE sample pulled at lower speed exhibited greater ductility. Ductility was calculated by obtaining the percent elongation of each material sample. This correlates with the idea that the material that deforms the most before fracture, possesses greater ductility. The highest percent elongation obtained was 191, ... Moreover, their valence electrons delocalize and form a sea of electrons by the donation of valence electrons of its electropositive atoms1. • 31. Descriptive Essay On A Fall Day Today, the weather was very humid and warm outside for mid October. It was a comfortable temperature outside, so I decided to take my fall jacket off because I did not want to be too hot as I was walking around the market. I m estimating that it was approximately mid to low 20 s in temperature today, so whenever a breeze arose, it was refreshing because it was pretty warm outside. I decided that today I would take a walk through the dessert sections of the market before going to sit by the outdoor firepit. There were many vendors selling fudge and pastries, so this was something I purchased because I was heading home that afternoon and I thought my family would enjoy these treats. The firepit was not turned on today because it was fairly warm outside, but I still decided to sit in one of the Adirondack chairs surrounding the firepit to take in everything that was happening around me. It was very busy at the market around this time because it was the weekend, and everybody was taking the opportunity to spend time with their families outside on the warm fall day. I also noticed an older man performing a compilation of folk songs on the guitar, and a small group of people huddled around the area listening to him perform. I started to become restless after sitting in the chair for about ten minutes, so I decided to continue walking to one of the buildings at the farmer s market. As mentioned earlier, the automobile really came into play during the 1920s by making traveling a common thing for anyone who could afford a car (Trueman, 2000). Henry Ford started the Ford Motor Company, which began to mass produce affordable automobiles known as the Model T. Ford s Model T car became such an irresistible success that by the end of the decade, there was almost one car per family in the United States (Bruce, 1981). The automobile seemed to give people a type of new freedom, but the automobile also proved to be a dangerous item in the hands of many irresponsible people who loved to drink during the 1920s. The washing machine, telephone, and radio made their arrival during the twenties. Gold Coast vehicle owners are currently faced with concerns relating to the amount of carbon emissions being released into the atmosphere whilst idling in traffic congestion. Although these carbon emissions have a direct impact on the immediate environment it is also contributing to the decline of coral growth on the Great Barrier Reef. Residents of small towns usually affiliate with the same political party and the majority residents of a larger region will usually affiliate with the same party. This is where the idea of the conservative south or liberal north comes from. The fact that people automatically conform to those around them has negative repercussions in more than one political arena. The idea that people conform to political affiliations regionally affects the way the House of Representative re draws their district lines. This happens so frequently on the state and federal level that that practice has actually been termed gerrymandering. Unfortunately the practice of gerrymandering practically undermines the political process in America emphasizing the importance of which party has the majority in The House of Representatives and taking focus away from their socio economical principles. The lawmakers of this country utilize the fact that people will automatically conform to others around them to their advantage creating a political system that is not truly democratic. • 43. Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti During the Victorian period, the feminism was beginning to take on a stronger voice, marking the start of this movement. Poet Christina Rossetti embraced this, as her own principles slowly became publicly acceptable. By creating modern female heroines, Rossetti comments on the Victorian society that she and her feminist contemporaries wished to see altered, in Goblin Market , this voice is evident. With the two sister, Laura and Lizzie, portrayed as innocent, pure and virginal, the goblins take on a more malicious character; portraying that of the male figures who tempt and corrupt. According to the Victorian definition, a gentleman never takes unfair advantage . . . or insinuates evil which he dare not say out, and possesses, among other qualities, the ability to avoid all suspicion and resentment (Landow 4). The goblins seem to contradict this definition of a gentleman throughout the poem; they represent the deleterious nature of men on the lives of women. Although it can be argued that the men of Goblin Market are wanting of sexual desires, it is evident that their only need is to take their virtue, Once both sisters have gone to the goblins and acquired the juices of their fruits, they have no further need of them (Mermin 291). The poem begins with an image reflecting that of the Garden of Eden. Much like the serpent, the goblins call the sisters to their delicious, exotic fruits, which represent the proverbial forbidden fruit one taste and chaos ensues. Using ...
