Narrative Complexity of a Murder
Through advancements in technology over the years, a new form of television surrounded by the
idea of narrative complexity arose (Mittell 31). In Jason Mittell s book, Complex TV: The Poetics
of Contemporary TelevisionStorytelling, he argues that narratively complex programs allows
viewers to participate actively by underlining the conventional traditions of storytelling, but also
integrating inventive and long term strategies to attract viewers and create a fan base. This idea of
narrative complexity stems from the balance between both television s traditional episodic form
and serial form. ABC s breakout television show, How to Get Away with Murder, is an example of
a program that implements devices such as nonlinear storytelling and seasonal arcs in order to
develop a complex narrative that fosters engagement in audiences and comments on contemporary
TV viewing.
In his book, Complex TV: The Poetics of Contemporary Television Storytelling, Mittell argues that
different media has an operational aesthetic that conforms to the conceptualization of a form of
television storytelling called narrative complexity . In order to explain the notion of operational
aesthetic, in class Professor Jackson explained that it is the way that media makers orchestrate the
plot, narrative and story of a television show in an unusual way. One way that the hit

The Death Of Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ was a spiritual and powerful man that sacrificed his own life for the sins of mankind.
The death of Jesus Christ, was complete torture and it resulted in a wrongful, distasteful, and
unbearable death that should ve never happened to begin with. Although, Jesus sadly left this earth
behind so soon because of all the cruel people who hated him and who didn t respect him or his
existence while he was on this earth whatsoever, Jesusstill remained relevant. As I further engaged
my knowledge about the deathof Jesus Christ, I began to notice that there was a strong, detailed,
and a powerful message behind his death that several people didn t seem to catch on to. In the
midst of his demise, he left a plethora of ideas and teachings for us to hold on to while living a
life through Christ. Here are some important thoughts to think about and delve into. Jesus Christ
taught us how to not be afraid of death and not to fear any other human being but God himself,
although it promotes not fearing others but God himself it also promotes forgiveness. There is
always a way to learn from mistakes to find a deeper meaning of happiness. When Jesus Christ
died on the cross, it was a mistake for everyone on this earth to learn from. What could be taken
from this is to realize and understand Jesus Christ s motives for his people and to turn your
mistakes into lessons. Jesus didn t die for no apparent reason, he sacrificed his only life and he
died for our sins. That right there

Creative Writting on Personal Diseases
Susan is a young professional who just had her personal genome sequenced. She now knows she
carries the gene for Huntington s disease. She is agonizing over the decision about sharing this
information with others. She doesn t know what to do or who to tell. So she goes to a doctor to
get his opinion on if it would be right or not to let her family or boyfriend know. While she is
waiting in the waiting room she is imagining how her life would be if she had Huntington s disease.
What type of burden she would be on peoples their opinions about her. Her family would not be
able to leave because they would constantly have to take care of her whether that be her hopefully
husband or another family member. When she goes to any event in public she will make a scene or
outburst and how they all will judge her about her condition. Susan starts to hypervinalate in the
waiting room as all these scenarios run uncontroably through her head. Finally the doctorwalks in
and she focuses back in on reality. She explains the situation to the doctor that she found out she
carries the gene for Huntington s disease and she doesn t know who to tell. The doctor explains
what he would do and gives her recommendations. For her parents she shouldn t tell them because
they will not be able to do anything about it or they may be dead by the time she starts
experiencing it extremely. It would just but unnecessary stress put on her parents worrying about
their daughter. As for her boyfriend goes she

Inappropriate Behavior Analysis
Hello, Parents
Today was a fabulous first day for the kindergarteners ! We worked on the letter I . We learn the
difference between, little I and capital I , words that begin with the letter I , and of course its
sound. The children also worked on their color reconnections, and a few other things. I encourage
all parents/guardians to ask their children what they learned today. This will not only inform you on
what your child is learning, but it will also remind your child what they learned today themselves.
A few reminders and updates to Parents:
Blankets and pillows are not supplied in Kindergarten if you would like your child to have a

All of the children start the day on Ready to Learn. Then, during the course of the day, the
children move their clothespins up or down the chart, based on the behavioral choices they make.
If they are making good choices, they can move their clothespin up a level at a time.
Inappropriate behavior would cause them to move down a level. Since the children start in the
middle of the chart, they have numerous opportunities to work their way up the chart. This really
helps the children realize that they have to have self control and be responsible for their actions
and behavior if they want to be recognized for making good choices. Making it to the top of the
chart is not easy, but it is definitely attainable. The children quickly realize how they must conduct
themselves in order to achieve this goal.

The Yellow Wallpaper, By Charlotte Perkins Gilman Essay
It is very seldom that mere ordinary people live a life free of sorrow. For most of us, we
experience patterns of sadness and psychological torment but in Charlotte Perkins Gilman s, The
Yellow Wallpaper, the narrator is not simply suffering from a simple round of depression. Shortly
after entering the world of motherhood, it was apparent that she was not feeling the way a new
mother should. While suffering from what is now known to be postpartum depression, the narrator
goes through a series of perceptional changes during the course of the story. Albeit initially starting
with a disgust for the yellowwallpaper, she eventually builds an overwhelming fascination for its
intricacies that leads to an escalating dissociation from day to day reality. In a mix of confusion,
denial, and delirium, she moves to uncover more of what the ironic wallpaper has to hide. One will
often begin to explore why they feel the way they do upon suffering from depression. Especially
when what should bring great joy is amounting to nothing more than psychological hardship and
internal struggle.
Upon arrival at the colonial estate, the narrator quickly notices a big, airy room that she has a
strong distaste for. She mentions that it was a nursery first, then a playroom, and finally a
gymnasium, but that the windows are barred. With how she is describing her surroundings it
allows for one to notice attributes of postpartum depression if it is applied to later on. The room in
which she has

Black Holes Lab
Black holes are celestial bodies so dense and strong that nothing can escape their pull. The idea
of black holes is generally referred to the French mathematician, Pierre Simon Laplace. In 1796,
Laplace who was studying the subject of escape velocity; this is the speed that something must
be accelerated to in order to prevent being pulled back by the gravity of a larger body. For
example, to escape the Earth s gravitational pull we must accelerate our rockets to over 11
kilometers per second. If the rocket travels any slower then it will fall into a victim of earth
gravity. If it travels any faster it will never return. When Laplace worked on this problem he
noticed a relationship between the size of the object and its mass. Laplace noticed... Show more

For a source that was many light years always as Scorpios was, to have the amount of x ray
emissions that was detected implied that it must have been generating huge quantities of x rays.
The simplest explanation for this was if material was heated to extreme temperatures as it was
being accelerated by gravity onto a nearby object. If this would be true then the companion
object had to be very small and very dense. The next pivotal discovery come with the launch of
the Unuru x ray satellite on December 12th 1970. Its given job was to map the x ray sky; the
satellite found 339 sources. Some where galaxies, some supernova remnants, but most were x ray
binary stars. Here, ordinary stars stream their material onto nearby neutron stars which gets
extremely hot as it falls, therefore emitting x rays. One of these sources however known as
Cygnus X1 did not fall into this category. Neutron stars are formed from the collapse of stars less
than 3 times the mass of the Sun. From the uhuru satellite the data, it shows that the companion to
this star appeared to be live to be 5 to 8 times the mass of the Sun, this object was too large to be a

Holocaust And The Holocaust
Holocaust, by definition, refers to a systematic and organized persecution targeting a specific group
of individuals in a society. The conceptualization and justification of holocaust takes a political path,
in most cases, and augmented by economic or social ideologies; with the targeted group or
population perceived of not living up to the standards to achieving the ideologies. In other words,
the coordination and implementation of holocaust, be it state sponsored or by external governments
foreign policies, seeks to destroy or realign the essential foundations of life, torture, maim, and
deliberate infliction of direct physical and psychological destruction. This follows violation of
human rightsand freedoms; cases of genocide, displacements, establishment of police states and
discriminatory regimes that further ruin the well being of the people in the long run (Petersohn
1047). Palestine has had significant disintegration of political and social institutions, cultures,
religion, and experienced forced blights that deteriorated personal liberties, dignity and health. In
Palestine s case, the disintegration has over time taken a political perspective and fueled by war,
armed conflict and political violence; aimed at destroying ethnic and racial groups.
To understand the extent of human rights violation in Palestine, it is prudent to understand the
strategies employed, and further delve in to the specific violations. Historically, Israel s occupation

In this book, it is found that the author manage to give detail explanations on each factors that is
believed to cause poverty. The author makes progress and develops the ideas convincingly by
providing adequate information based on statistical data and empirical evidences. In chapter four,
the author argues that level of education affects the potential earnings of household. Indeed he
writes, The access to education expands the potential for human capital thereby enabling one to
qualify for better paid jobs (29). To support his argument, the author proves it based on the results
of the survey in which it is presented in table 4.1 that show the distribution of household heads
based on the level of general education. Based on table 4.1 it is found that the level of illiteracy
among household heads is higher in Kelantan and Perak as these two states contribute the largest
share in national poverty compared to the two high performers namely Kedah and Terengganu
which is lower. The author also provide empirical evidences to support his stances as expected, the
positive relationship between the number of years spent in education and the potential for higher
earnings is also clearly evident from our empirical investigation in App. Table , col.4 (30). The
author consistently elaborates and substantiates ideas and arguments based on empirical evidences

Authority In Lord Of The Flies
What would happen if humans were left alone without authority? Would they want to help each
other or go off and try to satisfy their own needs? William Golding s Lord of the Flies entertains
the idea that all humans are cruel and selfish within. Golding has a group of young boys stranded
onto a secluded island. Having to fend for themselves the boys begin to act violent and selfish for
their own personal agendas. The longer the young boys stay on the island, the more selfish, cruel
thoughts and actions emerge from within them. The novel starts by introducing the group of young,
friendly looking kids. The group of kids collect themselves and wonder where authorityis. Aren t
there any grownups? Jack Merridew, one of the boys, asks around (Golding 21). With no real
authority figure, the boys decide to band together, increasing their ability to survive. In the first
moments of the book, the boys are introducing themselves. Piggy, being overweight and wearing
glasses, is bullied and tormented by the group. A storm of laughter arose and even the tiniest child
joined in. For the moment the boys were a closed circuit of sympathy with Piggy outside: he went
very pink, bowed his head , and cleaned his glasses again (Golding 21). After the boys have
established that there is no real authoritarian figure supervising them, the tormenting and bullying
for their own amusement begins. If there had been an authoritative figure their supervising them the
group of boys would have

traumatic brain injury survivors. Phineas Gage and Gary Busey were both lucky because they

The Word Cult
At first glance, the meaning of the word cult is simple and easy to grasp. However, the dictionary
definition and the definition that probably came to your mind aren t actually the same thing.
Over time, the word cult has transformed from its original innocuous meaning to something a lot
more sinister. Though the negative use of this word has its time and place, overall the misuse of
the word cult creates problems that we need to work to change. What do you think of when you
hear the word cult? Probably something to do with black capes, black masks, and black magic?
Maybe strange rituals, and Satan? Or did you think of the manipulative leaders convincing
everyday people to join in their crazy religion? Brainwashing and kidnapping? The... Show more

The website dictionary.com defines a cult as a particular system of religious worship, especially
with reference to its rites and ceremonies. In the most general sense of the current definition, a cult
is merely a group that worships. Other sources have added their objective meanings of the word.
Carter quotes Roger Finke as saying that cults are religious groups that are not spin offs of other
accepted religions. This definition includes many world religions, regardless of size. It carries no
negative connotation, but instead classifies cults as a term for a certain origination of religion.
Another definition is a sharply bonded social group or diffusely bounded social movement ... held
together through a shared commitment to a charismatic leader (Lalich). This definition can stretch
so far as to include non religious groups. Atheism, agnosticism, even political movements and
societies and clubs can be considered cults. Once again, this definition carries no connotation, just
the requirement of a personable leader. The word CULT comes from the Indo European word kwel
which meant to revolve around something, sojourn together, and to dwell. These etymological
meanings led to the traditional definition of cult: to worship, which is not so far from the dictionary
definition of today. Though many other sources use qualifiers and details about the described
groups, the true definition and the traditional meaning of the term are both

political setting in North America. Constituting and diminishing social boundaries, pop culture has
wide reaching influence to generate new sets of values and ideals in audiences (Fedorak 2009).
Originating in mainstream pop culture, discourses of genderand sexuality The Kids Are All Right
and The Fosters support homonormative politics, which privileges some lesbian mothers as

Heteronormativity constructs heterosexual assumptions of gender and sex as an ideal and moral
imperative, cooperating with and sustaining systems of power (Berlant and Warner 1998; Sharma
1999). Systems of power create a hierarchy within heteronormativity, doling privilege to some and
marginalizing others. This hierarchy is present in homosexual communities as well. Norms within
the homosexual community marginalize other kids of sex, gender, and sexuality difference
(Stryker 2008). Using Butler s concept of gender performativity illustrates the way that repetitive
performances of gender leads to social coherency. Unable to attain heteronormative standards as
lesbians, the couples conform to heteronormative standards in several key ways. Through the
promotion of a homonormative domestic discourse, producers tame the otherwise deviant sexual
subjects to render them non threatening to a straight audience, with a broader political impact that
depoliticizes and demobilizes the LGBTQ population (Duggan 2002; Erhart 2013; Warner 2000). In
adhering these key standards of heterosexual culture, a homonormative portrayal of lesbian
motherhood emerges.
Visually and conceptually, both couples replicate the heterosexual pattern of masculine and
feminine gender difference and the power difference it implies (Hammock 2009). Discourses of
gender and sexuality serve the sexual division of labour (Butler 1997, 272). It occurs within the

Bishop And Roethke On The Contradictions Of Perception
Date
Overwhelming Sensuousness: Bishop and Roethke on the Contradictions of Perception My Papa s
Waltz by Theodore Roethke and The Fish by Elizabeth Bishop depict the seemingly disparate
subjects of a rough, playful dance between a drunken father and his son and a fish just pulled from
the sea. Different in this way, the poems share an intense desire to render the ambiguity of
subjective experience. More specifically, they show how embracing this ambiguity produces rich,
potentially ecstatic modes of perception. While My Papa s Waltz centers on the subjective
oscillation between what John McKenna calls love and fright; excitement and concern, The Fish
probes the dichotomy between life and death, the human and the inhuman (38). Roethke s speaker
seems to remain caught within the binary aspects of his sensory perception, struck by its
contradictory richness, but Bishop offers a glimpse of how the oscillation gives way to epiphany,
to what C.K. Doreski calls a leap from perception to wisdom (112). By directing readers attention
to the importance of engaging subjective experience in a way that does not smooth over its
contradictory elements, both poems are able to powerfully render the heightened modes of being
that can emerge from an immersion in the sensuality of daily existence. I will demonstrate this
claim via a close examination of the poems imagery, diction, tone, and autobiographical contexts. In
order to approach the poems on their own terms, to

What Is Homeschooling Essay
Homeschooling. There is such a negative connotation around it. The stigma that homeschoolers are
anti social. The belief that the student really just sits around all day long and do not actually learn
anything. The fear that the kids will not be ready for the real world. But why do we associate
homeschooling with such a negative image when really it is helping them thrive? If more students
were homeschooled instead of going to public school, society would be greater and smarter. What
exactly does homeschoolingdo for the student? Homeschooling gives the student advancement
opportunities to focus on their personal strengths and weaknesses, and focus on their academic
interests. The educationof a homeschooled student is molded to fit who they are and not who the
whole class is for a better understanding. If the student is more of a hands on learner, more projects

Haemolysis Test Lab Report
To find the first unknown bacteria, the microbiology student started by inoculating a sample on a
slide to stain with Gram s stain; resulting a gram positive cocci. He continued by looking at the
dichotomous key in the Lab Manual, afterwards doing a catalase test on an inoculated slide to
differentiate it from being either a Streptococcus or a Staphylococcus (2). He then put the hydrogen
peroxide on the inoculated slide, it immediately reacts, resulting on an excessive bubbling reaction,
concluding that the Gram positive species is catalase positive. He now had to inoculate a sample of
the bacteriato a 10% salt agar media to determine whether it is a Staphylococcus or a Micrococcus.
After inoculating and incubating at 37В°C for two days, it resulted with substantial growth. This
indicates that the unknown Gram positive bacteria s genus is a Staphylococcus. Following up, the
microbiologystudent needed to determine whether it of the species aureus, saprophyticus, or

A Comprehensive List Of Red Wines Essay
This is not intended to be a comprehensive list of red wines. Instead this post will discuss the four
popular red wines: Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Merlot. Also, this isn t a post
about how to choose a red, this is a post about its history, flavors and wine
Cabernet Sauvignon
The Cabernet Sauvignon grape is a small thick skinned blue purple grape with lots of seeds in
proportion to its size(A 150). There are two main reasons that Cabernet Sauvignon continues to
thrill our palates and table is its ability to adapt to soil and climate and its ability to resist plant
viruses and diseases (B 38). Two significant sites for Cabernet Sauvignon are Bordeaux, France
and Napa Valley, California (A 152). In France, the ancient gravel of Bordeaux holds heat which
allows the vines to stay warm while at the same time preventing the vine from truly thriving. It is
the barely surviving that makes the flavor so intense and produces the highly sought after fruit
(A 152). In California s Napa Valley it is the ability of the rocky and volcanic soil of the alluvial
(fan??) to hold water and nutrients, which creates the signature flavor (A 153). When it comes to
bottling the Cabernet Sauvignon is rarely bottled alone. In Bordeaux it is usually part of a team
of red grapes that includes either Merlot and Cabernet Franc, or Malbec, or and Petit Verdot(A
140). But as long as 75% of the wine is Cabernet Sauvignon the label doesn t have to list the
additional wines(A 141). Then the

Efficient Resource Allocation In Cognitive Radio Networks
Efficient resource allocation in cognitive radio networks considering time varying constraints
Abstract:
Wide spread acceptance of wireless technologies has given rise to increase in demand for
bandwidth .cognitive radio was developed as a promising technique to overcome the scarcity of
spectrum resources in wireless communication. The term cognitive radio is defined as an intelligent
radio that can be programmed and configured dynamically. Particular portion of the spectrum can
be used only by a specific user of communication systems i.e. licensed user (or) primary user (PU).
The secondary user is cognitive user (CR). There are two main paradigms to implement CR in
practical, namely interweave and underlay techniques. The main motive of ... Show more content on

In underlay transmission method the secondary users use the licensed band along with the active
primary users but to keep the interference to the PU s under a predefined threshold level the SU s
will control their power accordingly, where as in interweave transmission the SU s use the licensed
band when no active primary user is present [3].
Spectrum sensing in cognitive radio is performed to know the surrounding radio environment such
as PU s existence and usage of spectrum in geo graphical area and it determine the spectrum holes.
Based on the spectrum sensing results, the process of identifying the best channel to meet the QOS
to the user is known as spectrum management. It assigns that channel to the cognitive user.
Scheduling coefficients, rate, power are the resources available for cognitive radio to adapt. In
spectrum management by using some time varying constraints it identifies the best channel in the
spectrum, but there are still few challenges in design faced by cognitive radio paradigm For
controlling interference we need some extra constraints. The volatile nature of CR may cause
outdated statistical channel state information. It is difficult to acquire instantaneous CSI of the PU.
For first design challenge, interference can inflicted by either through average (long term) transmit
power constraints or instantaneous (short term) constraints [4]. The instantaneous constraints have
been focused as the second design challenge, handling these constraints

The desire to discover something can be the effect of the human condition or metaphysical with
the idea of emotions causing transformation of perspectives of oneself and the world. In Frost s
poem Mending Wall , a contemplation regarding the repairing of a wall between a persona and
their neighbour reveals that they hold conflicting views about the necessity of a wall. It is shown
that the persona disapproves the mending of the wallthrough the personification of apple trees. The
persona uses it as a logical example of the futile nature of having fences for fruit trees; thus, the
composer challenges not just the neighbour but also the audience to speculate the reasons for
having a fence. A bitter clash of opinions is unveiled when the persona... Show more content on

The protagonist is a man who experiences a series of events in attempt to pursue a girl he has
never had any verbal interaction with. An element of romance is prevailed through the
establishing shot where winds blow a piece of paper with the girl s lipstick stain and
coincidentally lands on the man. This is a metaphor for fate, although it is juxtaposed by a
reverse shot, where it shows the man that he is unaware that the women has left and this
experience is shared with the audience. Thus, it creates an impact on the audience as well
leaving them wondering whether the man and the women will ever see each other again. A high

If the company is adamant at meeting the 5,000 sample a day mark and removing demand
variability it may be worthwhile to look into holding off on samples arriving later in the day as to
have immediate work for testers and the latter steps at the beginning of the next day. Samples from
the second 8 hour shift of a certain day that are processed during the first 8 hour shift of the
following day will still meet the objective of communicating results within the 24 hour limit. This
technique could also potentially decrease standard deviation as it tries to evenly control the sample
flow and demand variability in the daily process. Routine delivery times for satellite and external
labs could also lead to more consistency within the process.

Pop Culture Has Influenced The American Way
Pop culture has always influenced the American way. In fact, there is a saying that politics is
downstream from culture. What this means is that laws, policies, and guidelines that the
government enforces are all influenced by what is being said and done in pop culture. It may be
hard to see this example today, but there were certain parts in time where this idea could be
easily seen. One of these eras was the 1960s. The 1960s was filled with turbulence. This is
because of all of the significant events happening during this time period: the arms race, the space
race, the burst of new innovations, and the Cold War. During all of these events, a revolution was
beginning in the states. Many people saw what was wrong with the United States, and strived to
change it. This is how all sorts of movements began to take place during this time period, like the
civil rights movement. All of these movements were to promote social justice. Some pop culture
icons of the time voiced their thoughts about this social justice. Three of these icons were
influential musicians. These musicians are Janis Joplin, Marvin Gaye, and Bob Dylan.
The first of these influential musicians is Janis Joplin. To understand her beliefs and how she
became such an inspiration, it is important to look at her upbringing. Janis Joplin was born in
Texas in 1943. She was raised in a middle class family during a period of time when racial
segregation was prominent. Seeing segregation as an evil that must be gotten

Endangered Species Of Primate
Humans have always been a destructive species. Throughout history, and especially recently,
humans have been the cause of many species going extinct or threatened of extinction. Primates are
no exception to the destructive and damaging effects. Humans feel as if they are superior to other
species, even those who are biologically similar to us. Humans feel the need to dominate other
specieswhich is one reason primates are being hunted. Many people who hunt primates claim that
they are hunting for bushmeat. This statement is true, but it is not necessary in many areas where
there are many more sources of protein. Some people in certain areas hunt primates for the sport
of it, which is extremely devastating to many different species of primates. There have been some
efforts made in order to protect certain species of primates. Another cause for endangered speciesof
primates is deforestation. Some efforts that have been made are nature sanctuaries and creating
laws against hunting. What needs to be done in order to decrease hunting and deforestation is
education of subject to the people of the areas.
One species of primate that is critically endangered due to the effects of humans, is the Hapalemur
alaotrensis, or commonly referred to as the Alaotra Gentle Lemur. This lemur is critically
endangered due to severe anthropogenic effects. Their habitats are destroyed by humans through
fires and deforestation. They are then forced into small areas around them where they cannot

2 The issue of Red Light Cameras has been an ongoing issue for a long time now. It has gotten to
the point where our state government has jumped in. Individuals in our community have
worked hard to ban the red light cameras; while the government has done the opposite. In the

cameras in Texas died after a House lawmaker called a point of order which is a procedural tactic
used to kill bills. While on the other hand Rep. Joe Pickett, believes Texas should have the ability
to determine whether each city should keep the red light camera program. Only four months into
2017 many bills have been filed to limit or disallow the use of red light cameras in many cities.
Individuals of communities have tried to compromise with higher ups with the exemptions of
tollways and police officers only using cameras. Many people in cities are tired of going to war
with a camera and losing. Many cities such like Dallas are not moving in the direction of
eliminating Red Light Cameras, majority of the community support the thought of having red light
cameras at important congested intersections. 3 According to the article, Hate red light cameras?
Texas Lawmakers will try to ban them again , supports of red light cameras said the devices make
the streets safer , it was also stated that statistics show that since red light cameras have been
present the number of child deaths have decreased. If the problem is people constantly running red
lights then maybe state government should make it a priority to enforce that there is more police

The Federal Express Air Carrier Service
Abstract
Federal Express is a company that was founded on the idea from a term paper created by a Yale
Undergraduate student, Frederick Smith. Smith was able to envision a future with successful,
global air carrier services that delivered what the customer wanted. Using this vision and staying
true to the company values Smith grew his small company in the second largest global carrier.
FedEx was built through hard work and dedication to a better service. FedEx is a strong company
today and continues to deliver packages all over the world from their base in Memphis Tennessee.
Keywords: FedEx, Federal, Express, airline, carrier, services The History of the Federal Express
Air Carrier Service
People are always looking for faster and more efficient ways to ship packages. Stores and
suppliers are anxious to deliver their goods faster, and customers are anxious to receive their
items sooner. When the first airplane took flight a new industry was born, air cargo. The first
shipment ever recorded was small parcel of silk sent from a department store to a customer who
was pleased to receive the package faster than previously possible. Since then, this business has
developed into a global industry providing package delivery around the world. One of the leaders in
this industry is Federal Express, now known as FedEx.
The Beginning
When Frederick Smith, a Yale University undergraduate student started thinking about the air
carrier industry, it wasn t a new concept.

Depiction of Cultural and Religious Beliefs in Artwork
Depiction of cultural and religious beliefs have been an important element in many artworks. The
newly formed Early Christian religion, the Roman culture, and the Greek culture are no exception
to this occurrence. Though living close in proximity to each other, their views differed vastly, in
respect to both religionand culture. Roman and Greek views indulged the here and now , while
those views of the Early Christians centered on the hereafter . It is upon the examination of a
few artworks taken from either side, that this contrast becomes extremely apparent. Though
there was an idea of an afterlife in Roman and Greek mythology, it was generally not taken
seriously by the people. Thus the All that is good in this worldly life, is the only good to seek
mentality prevailed. In their numerous artworks we see this mentality in the display of scenes
of indulgence, of worldly matters, and finery. In fact, the purpose of the artwork itself is that it
is meant to be a beautifying piece, to grace the homes and villas, and add to the beauty of this
world. In the sculpture Discobolos different aspects of worldly good are identifiable. A youthful
man with a well sculpted body poses in a way that accentuates his muscles, as he prepares to
throw a discus. From this sculpture and many others similar to it, one can see first of all that there
is a great respect for sports, which are an in the moment game. When playing or watching the sport,

Harry Potter And The Sorcerer s Stone Quote Analysis
Imagine that you were famous, but didn t know it. In the book Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s
stone, J.K rowling represents an overall theme of unfairness. Harry Potter is caught up in an
unfair world of hand me downs. The book shows this through evidence such as the fact that
Harry doesn t know how he got to the Dursleys home and that his entire family are wizards. My
first point of evidence is that Harry was never told how he got to the dursleys home. This is
evidence of the theme of unfairness that runs throughout the book because the dursleys never had
the time or caringness to tell Harry how he got to their house. Some example of this could be
when J.K Rowling writes, He layed Harry gently on the doorstep, took a letter out of his cloak,
tucked it inside Harry s blanket s and then came back to the other two. This quote allows the author
to show that there was a note explaining everything to Harry, but they never tell Harry... Show more

He walked around in gigantic shirts, hiding his face and his scar behind his bangs. He should
have been marching around town his head held high his bangs back showing off his scar. I think
it s unfair to Harry because he s been treated like garbage by two muggles that know how famous
he actually is. Some evidence that the dursleys were trying to hide Harry in an unfair way was
the fact that he was only allowed to wear Dudleys old clothes and had to keep his bangs long. I
think this evidence really ties together the whole theme because it shows the Dursleys didn t
like magic, they were trying to hide it from Harry, this could be seen as unfair. They then
followed that path by not telling him he was a wizard, how he got to their house, or how his
parents died. He was never allowed to learn magic because they don t like magic, and they didn t
want him to be more superior than they were. So because of the Dursleys Harry could never live

Yes, she may have been the 16th woman to be issued her pilot s license, but she did more than
anyone could have thought with that license. Being the first female pilot the fly across the
Atlantic Ocean says a lot(Amelia). This shows that Amelia Earhart had the strength and courage
than most other women at the time. She proved to a lot of people that women are as strong and
as powerful as anyone else and that they are able to conquer anything. Even though she was
moved around a lot as a child due to an alcoholic father, this did not discourage her(Amelia). Her
disappearance is not only saddening, but also very confusing and mysterious. Even though we don
t know what happened to her or where she is at now or if she is even alive, we do know that she
was a strong and amazing woman that did great things for women in history. Amelia Earharts
parents, Amelia Mary Earhart and Samuel Stanton Earhart, gave birth to her on July 24,

would abuse her and her family. This led to her mother taking her and her sister to her

Climate is the average of the weather of a region, and the climate of the Earth is the climate average

My Birth Kahlo Analysis
Kahlo said, My painting carried with it the message of pain. Painting completed my life. I lost
three children. Painting substituted for all this (Ashton Dore, 1990). She left childbirth, a
physical act, in an image through constantly noticing the relationship between her physical
experiences and her paintings and being absorbed into actions of creation borne from her pain.
It is almost difficult to find works of art that depict this theme as honestly as Kahlo in Western art
history. My Birth (1932) (Figure 24) shows a front view of a woman delivering a baby (Souter
Gerry, 2011, p. 60). Between the woman s wide open legs is the head of a grown up Kahlo covered

The first generation of feminists tried to reevaluate and praise the value of feminine attributes,
especially the female body, differentiated from masculine attributes and feminine experiences
with an essentialist attitude. Kahlo was praised as a legendary feminist artist, as the women
inside her self portraits are not passive objects for men s visual satisfaction but active observers
who look closely into their minds. As mentioned above as well, the female artists dilemma is
that they are not only the subject of painting but also the object being observed. Amid art history,
established and dominated by men, instead of depicting men as her competitors, Kahlo
visualized the introspection of herself in her paintings. She did not limit her role to competing
with men, but she unfolded her sad personal history in her unique way. Among them, the image
of women depicted in Self Portrait with Curly Hair (1935) (Figure 25) and Self Portrait with
Cropped Hair (1940) (Figure 2) are not at all passive. It is in line with the effort made by
feminists involved in the early feminist art movement, which was to change the passive and
negative female image created by men. Kahlo is a true feminist artist as she delivered truth
observed through women s eyes in the period in which only truth seen through men s eyes was
accepted. She painted pondering women amid her suffering. She had a special ability to connect
femininity and masculinity, and this ability appeared in her painting (Bakewell Lisa,

Illusions and Realities in Ibsen s Plays The Wild Duck and Ghosts
In Ibsen s The Wild Duck, illusions and reality are set into a conflict within the story of a son s
personal desire to confront idealism. Throughout much of the play, the son, Greger, argues the
value of truth with the reluctant Dr. Relling. Relling insists on the importance of illusions, but fails
to discourage Greger s intentions and a play that begins as a comedy quickly turns into a tragedy
because of these conflicts. At the heart of the illusions in this play are the ways that people assume
many roles in a family, impersonating multiple ideals as ways for managing their relationships. This
theme of impersonation is also developed in Ibsen s Ghosts, where ... Show more content on

Within the ordinary lives of the families in Ghosts and The WildDuck are tales of infidelity,
corruption, greed, lust, disease, and other afflictions that characterize family secrets. For
example, in Ghosts, the mother, Mrs. Alving, reveals the ways she has protected her son Oswald
from the truths of her unhappy marriage. She tells her friend and priest, Manders, ...Yes, I was
always swayed by duty and consideration for others; that was why I lied to my son, year in and
year out. Oh, what a coward I have been (315).
Manders responds, You have built up a happy illusion in your son s mind, Mrs. Alving and that is a
thing you certainly ought not to undervalue, (315) echoing Dr. Relling s belief that illusions are
sometimes more than a question of reality. In both plays, the deeper questions are about whose
reality matters, and who may determine another person s reality.
Relling accuses Greger of having a plague of ...integrity fever; and then what s worse you are
always in a delirium of hero worship; you must always have something to adore, outside yourself,
which Greger agrees to, without considering the consequences of this claim (297). In fact, Greger
s certainty about the dangers of illusions provokes the young Hedvig into an emotional despair,
and she kills herself. The issues presented in this play are not about what is true, or false, but about
the ways people build their lives on the past. Hedvig s father, Hialmar,

The Importance of Education Essay
The Importance of Education
Education has always been a crucial part of society for the past centuries. Some believe that our
education is a privilege. Some believe that our education is a right. Some believe that our education
is an obligation. The only obligation we might have towards education is to treat it as a privilege as
well as a right, but certainly not an obligation to have an education. Education has been the basis for
the success we see in our parents, our teachers, and more importantly, ourselves.
Over time, people have considered and concluded that education is a privilege. Education is a
privilege because not many people can afford an education, and we should be grateful that we have

This is true because you cannot be denied an education based on your nationality, skin color, hair
color, or any physical features, even being handicapped. It is the right of the individual to seek an
education, as long as the individual is fully capable financially and mentally. Let say ?Melissa,? a
fictional fourteen year old African American girl, wants to attend Hinsdale Central. A fairly good
school, if I do say so myself, for a student to attend preceding college, as I have. Let?s say Hinsdale
Central refuses to let Melissa attend their school for various reasons, such as her skin color. It?s
Melissa?s constitutional right to contest this decision by the fact that the school denied her
admittance based on her skin color, which is discrimination. However, the school does not have to
admit Melissa, even though she is completely qualified. The individual does not have the right to an
education, but rather has the right to seek and education. The individual can only have a right to an
education if the school offering the education refuses them based on physical features.
What about obligations, is an education one of them? Education can be an obligation in a personal
way, but education is certainly not an obligation to receive in the general aspect. If a person feels
obligated about their education, they are most likely not going to be motivated. Motivation comes
from the parents, the teachers, and the

sexual abuse and motherhood. Harriet Jacobs tries to appeal to the Northern white women using
the emotions of being a mother, Christianity, and the sanctity of marriage. In the story, Jacobs
compares what it is like to endure New Year s Day as a black slave to the celebrations that white
slave owners and their families partake in. To black slaves, this is the day mother s would lose
their children at the auction block to new slave owners. She uses this as a tactic to describe the

the media has in shaping the outlooks of citizens on the world and society wither the events

the threats this influx has on the cultural stability and longevity of the nation explains how the
citizens of the nation, wither directly affected by immigration or not, move towards a more

The Influence Of Terra Nullius On Indigenous Australia s...
Buchan and Heath argue that the term terra nullius was used to create a false construct of Australia
and it s Aboriginal people. Terra Nullius resulted in Britain justifying illegal colonisation of
Aboriginal land and denigrating Aboriginal Australians by ignoring their sovereignty despite failing
to either conquer or form treaties with Aboriginal Australiapeople.
The term terra nullius means nobody s land and was what the British colonists declared Australian
territory was when they landed on the shores in 1788 (Hollinsworth 2006). Colonists saw upon
arrival that Australia was inhabited by Indigenous people, however because of lack of cultivation
and societal systems like Europeans had established, they concluded that the land was now owned
by them and hence no treaty or conquest was required before they could lawfully reside on the land.

Dredd Scott Decision Essay
INTRODUCTION United States Supreme Court case Scott v. Sanford (1857), commonly known
as the Dred Scott Case, is probably the most famous case of the nineteenth century (with the

ever been overturned by a Constitutional amendment(overturned by the 13th and 14th
Amendments). It is also, along with Marbury, one of only two cases prior to the Civil War that
declared a federal law unconstitutional. This case may have also been one of the most, if not the
most, controversial case in American history, due simply to the fact that it dealt an explosive
opinion on an issue already prepared to erupt slavery. Thus, many scholars assert that the... Show

In April of 1846, Dred and Harriet Scott filed a suit for freedom against Irene Emerson in the
Circuit Court of St. Louis County, obviously under the jurisdiction of Missouri law. The
established legal principle of Missouri at this time regarding slavery was once free, always free
. In other words, to the Missouri courts, what Scott was doing was perfectly acceptable due to the
precedent of the Missouri case Rachael v. Walker (1837), which basically stated that if a slave
was taken by his or her master to a free state that slave was then entitled to freedom by virtue of
residence in the free state or territory [Oxford, 761]. On account of this alone, Scott and his wife
would have been freed when the case came to trial in 1847, however there was a problem of
hearsay evidence in the case and the judge declared it a mistrial. It was not until three years later
in 1850 that the court was able to correct the problem and unfalteringly sided with the Scott s and
ordered them freed, citing that once he had been in free territory, he was indirectly freed and
remained freed. By this time Mrs. Emerson had married, moved to New England with her new
husband, and left these affairs and ownership of the Scotts to her brother, John F. A. Sanford. After
Scott was declared free by the courts, Sanford sought an appeal from the Missouri Supreme Court.

Steven Katz Essay
The debate in the academic study of mysticism between Steven Katz and Robert Forman primarily
refers to the origins and essence of mystical experiences. Katz s argues that, There are NO pure (i.e.
unmediated) mystical experiences (Katz, 26). Additionally, Katz articulates the problem of
interpreting and verifying mystical experiences, thus alluding to the issue of whether or not
mystical experiences can be classified. Comparatively, Robert Forman argues for the existence of
what he refers to as Pure Consciousness Events (PCEs), whereby mystical experiences extend
beyond language and culture. Each argument has its merits, however, I contend that Forman s
argument is the most articulate and accurate. Katz asserts that the major problem of... Show more

Although Katz does not deny the existence of mystical experiences, he suggests that there is no
scientific evidence upon which to classify and categorize experiences. Katz uses constructivism to
argue his analyses. The concept of constructivism maintains, people construct their own
understanding and knowledge of the world, through experiencing things and reflecting on those
experiences (Educational Broadcasting Corporation). Moreover, Katz suggests, all experience is
processed through, organized by and makes itself available to us in extremely complex
epistemological ways (Katz, 26). Essentially, Katz insists that people do not have mystical
experiences that differ from their spiritual or religious beliefs and practices. Katz states, ...in order
to understand mysticism it is not just a question of studying the reports of the mystics after the
experimental event but of acknowledging that the experience itself as well as the form in which it
is reported is shaped by the concepts which the mystic brings to, and which shape his experience
(Katz, 26). For Katz, this argument denies claims of mystical experiences any reliability. Therefore,

Florida market (Rivkin 8). JetBlue also began encroaching on key Delta routes, and this seems only
likely to increase (Rivkin 9). Despite this, Delta has still performed better than any other legacy
carrier (Rivkin 8). Still, recent history has brought several changes to this legacy carrier, and the
company has turned its attention towards new competitive strategies.

Current Schools Of Thought On Change Management
TASK 1 1.1 The analysis must include consideration of two current schools of thought on
change management and how they have contributed to organizational change Kurt Zadek Lewin
(September 9, 1890 February 12, 1947) was a German American analyst, known as one of the
advanced pioneers of social , authoritative, and connected brain research An early model of
progress created by Lewin portrayed change as a three stage process. The primary stage he
called unfreezing . It included overcoming dormancy and disassembling the current personality
set . It must be some piece of surviving. Barrier systems must be circumventing. In the second
stage the change happens. This is ordinarily a time of perplexity and move. We are mindful that
the old ways are constantly tested yet we don t have a reasonable picture with reference to what
we are supplanting them with yet. The third and last stage he called solidifying . The new attitude
is solidifying and one s solace level is coming back to past levels ology The idea of progress
administration is recognizable in many associations today however how they oversee change (and
how effective they are busy) changes tremendously relying upon the nature of the business, the
change and the individuals included. Associations that handle change well seem to flourish, whilst
those that don t may battle to survive. A key piece of this relies on upon how far individuals inside
the association comprehend and manage the change

Racism And Discrimination In To Kill A Mockingbird By...
The novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, addresses the issues of racism and discrimination in the south
during the 1930s through a trial concerning rape. Tom Robinson, though convicted of this crime,
was innocent. The evidence within the case shows that Tom Robinson is innocent because of
Mayella Ewell, the young lady that claims she was raped, has most of her bruises on her right side,
however, Tom Robinson s left arm is completely useless. To add, Tom sounds more trustworthy than
the other two witnesses, Mayella and Bob Ewell. The first witness, Heck Tate, says during his
testimony, It was her right eye, Mr. Finch. I remember now, she was bunged up on that side of the
face... (Lee 225), with this information, it makes it less likely that Tom Robinson had assaulted
Mayella because his left arm was fully twelve inches shorter than his right (Lee 248). However,
it is more probable that Bob Ewell abused Mayella because, during Bob Ewell s cross
examination, Atticus asks him to write his name, and Judge Taylor realizes Bob Ewell is left
handed when announcing, You re left handed, Mr. Ewell (Lee 237). During Heck Tate s
testimony, he says that Mayella s right side of the face was beaten up, however, Tom Robinson s
left arm is shorter than his right, so it is implausible he would have pummelled Mayella s face, but
it s more likely for Bob Ewell to do so because he is left handed, and, in general, is a horrible
person. This proves Tom could not have walloped Mayella s right

The Problem Of Food Insecurity Essay
Food insecurity has been affecting the US population as about more than 23 million Americans,
including 6.5 million children, live in low income urban and rural neighborhoods that are more than
a mile from a supermarket. These communities are much known since they lack access to
affordable, nutritious food. Vault and healthy food should be affordable; policy or a plan that would
improve our food supply or the health of the population should be put into consideration in order to
enhance the American population s public health.
It is known that food insecurity is one of the major issues in the United States. Politicians have a
great role to reform and speak for the rights of those who do not have a voice. Towns play an
important role in providing access to healthy and affordable food. Establishing a food Security
Council may offer lots of help; and by nominating representatives to speak and consider all the
issues, discuss them, and decide on what s best for the public. This law may enhance and improve
in order to fight obesity in children and adolescents.
Researchers and experts who have their underlying foundations running somewhere down in the
battle against craving are endeavoring day by day and looking for resolutions to these issues.
Legislative and non administrative offices have joined to give help and administrations to families
and people needing sustenance and safe spots to devour a sound dinner. Answers for closure this
plague are centered around precaution

Type Of Luxury Consumers By Robert Frank
In the article Type of Luxury Consumers , the author, Robert Frank, tries to deal with the issue of
the behaviour of luxury consumers. He introduces the readers that the consumers will spend their
money lavishly to show wealth and status based on their economic ability. They are willing to buy
expensive items with a good brandingcompared to the low end product that lack of explicit markers.
The author argues every type of luxury consumer has their own desire and taste to follow the trend
and the effect of these consumers towards the brand management. The author agrees with the
research made by the USC Marshall School of Businessabout this issue. This can be proved when
his thought is always parallel with the study. There are a few types of... Show more content on

The example of inductive reasoning is based on paragraph VII, he states the Gucci s brand use
bamboo on its product to discreet their uniqueness compared to the counterfeit items. Then the
author gives a few effects to the manufacturer if they do not make a brand ubiquitous such as
Burberry faced in the 1990s, when its trademark checked plaid became ubiquitous and was
fashioned into everything.
Based on the article, we can make the inference that non patrician gives bad effect towards the
brand management. Because non patrician is the one who is willing to buy cheaper items to being
updated as long as they can afford it without bothering the quality.
Based on paragraph IV, we can conclude that there are 4 types of consumers which are patrician,
parvenus, poseurs and proletarians. Every consumers has their own desire and taste to follow the
trend. They want to be looked wealth by their belonging items. Thus, non patrician is the one who
contributes the most in counterfeiting as long as they follow the trend and being

Persuasive Essay On Climate Crisis
As advances in technology and medicine lead to longer lifespans and lowered mortality from
disease, some people worry about overpopulating the earth. These people also argue that aid work
will fuel the population growth and demolish one of the only forms of population control. Melinda
Gates explains that as people work to provide more education and contraceptives to women in third
world countries, the birth rate will naturally decrease, especially as they worry less about having a
child survive into adulthood (Rosen). Currently there is enough to sustain the population and its
growth in the years to come; presently the issue is not the number of people, but rather, the
distribution and effective use of resources.
The World Economic Forum s Global Shaper Survey shows that most millennials agree that climate
change is the most urgent issue and that they can do something to fix it (Jackson). Bill Gates has
mentioned the possibility of a new charity dedicated to solving the climate change issue because he
views it as the most imminent threat to the survival and advancement of humanity. An article on
The Guardian even mentions that The foundation s annual letter for 2015 says their achievements
could be undone by the advancing climate crisis. (Mathiesen). Gates has even theorized that, at the
current rate, we could be facing serious climatic consequences in as little as 15 or 20 years.
The nonprofit sector should direct efforts to income disparity and unemployment. According

Thomas Paine The American Crisis
To commence The American Crisis ,Thomas Paine, a renown revolutionary, avows the miserable
worth of the summer soldier and the sunshine patriot . First off, he resorts to alliteration to attract
the reader s attention and then he proceeds to deprecate the soldier s morale, claiming he will
shrink from the service of his country and acknowledge ignominious defeat. However, Paine
typifies that a real soldier (a winter soldier) will stand firmly by his convictions and as a result, he
shall be prized with the loveand respect of his people. The oppositional character is clearly
foregrounded by the juxtaposition of shrinking with standing . Nonetheless, despite him being
perceived as grand and heroic, the winter soldier faces his own

  • 2. Narrative Complexity Of A Murder Victoria Alvarez Josh Jackson/Ganesh Media Studies 10 Section 104 27 September 2016 Narrative Complexity of a Murder Through advancements in technology over the years, a new form of television surrounded by the idea of narrative complexity arose (Mittell 31). In Jason Mittell s book, Complex TV: The Poetics of Contemporary TelevisionStorytelling, he argues that narratively complex programs allows viewers to participate actively by underlining the conventional traditions of storytelling, but also integrating inventive and long term strategies to attract viewers and create a fan base. This idea of narrative complexity stems from the balance between both television s traditional episodic form and serial form. ABC s breakout television show, How to Get Away with Murder, is an example of a program that implements devices such as nonlinear storytelling and seasonal arcs in order to develop a complex narrative that fosters engagement in audiences and comments on contemporary TV viewing. In his book, Complex TV: The Poetics of Contemporary Television Storytelling, Mittell argues that different media has an operational aesthetic that conforms to the conceptualization of a form of television storytelling called narrative complexity . In order to explain the notion of operational aesthetic, in class Professor Jackson explained that it is the way that media makers orchestrate the plot, narrative and story of a television show in an unusual way. One way that the hit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The death of Jesus Christ, was complete torture and it resulted in a wrongful, distasteful, and unbearable death that should ve never happened to begin with. Although, Jesus sadly left this earth behind so soon because of all the cruel people who hated him and who didn t respect him or his existence while he was on this earth whatsoever, Jesusstill remained relevant. As I further engaged my knowledge about the deathof Jesus Christ, I began to notice that there was a strong, detailed, and a powerful message behind his death that several people didn t seem to catch on to. In the midst of his demise, he left a plethora of ideas and teachings for us to hold on to while living a life through Christ. Here are some important thoughts to think about and delve into. Jesus Christ taught us how to not be afraid of death and not to fear any other human being but God himself, although it promotes not fearing others but God himself it also promotes forgiveness. There is always a way to learn from mistakes to find a deeper meaning of happiness. When Jesus Christ died on the cross, it was a mistake for everyone on this earth to learn from. What could be taken from this is to realize and understand Jesus Christ s motives for his people and to turn your mistakes into lessons. I encourage all parents/guardians to ask their children what they learned today. This will not only inform you on what your child is learning, but it will also remind your child what they learned today themselves. • 6. The Yellow Wallpaper, By Charlotte Perkins Gilman Essay It is very seldom that mere ordinary people live a life free of sorrow. For most of us, we experience patterns of sadness and psychological torment but in Charlotte Perkins Gilman s, The Yellow Wallpaper, the narrator is not simply suffering from a simple round of depression. Shortly after entering the world of motherhood, it was apparent that she was not feeling the way a new mother should. While suffering from what is now known to be postpartum depression, the narrator goes through a series of perceptional changes during the course of the story. Albeit initially starting with a disgust for the yellowwallpaper, she eventually builds an overwhelming fascination for its intricacies that leads to an escalating dissociation from day to day reality. In a mix of confusion, denial, and delirium, she moves to uncover more of what the ironic wallpaper has to hide. One will often begin to explore why they feel the way they do upon suffering from depression. Especially when what should bring great joy is amounting to nothing more than psychological hardship and internal struggle. Upon arrival at the colonial estate, the narrator quickly notices a big, airy room that she has a strong distaste for. She mentions that it was a nursery first, then a playroom, and finally a gymnasium, but that the windows are barred. With how she is describing her surroundings it allows for one to notice attributes of postpartum depression if it is applied to later on. The room in which she has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The idea of black holes is generally referred to the French mathematician, Pierre Simon Laplace. In 1796, Laplace who was studying the subject of escape velocity; this is the speed that something must be accelerated to in order to prevent being pulled back by the gravity of a larger body. For example, to escape the Earth s gravitational pull we must accelerate our rockets to over 11 kilometers per second. If the rocket travels any slower then it will fall into a victim of earth gravity. If it travels any faster it will never return. When Laplace worked on this problem he noticed a relationship between the size of the object and its mass. Laplace noticed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For a source that was many light years always as Scorpios was, to have the amount of x ray emissions that was detected implied that it must have been generating huge quantities of x rays. The simplest explanation for this was if material was heated to extreme temperatures as it was being accelerated by gravity onto a nearby object. If this would be true then the companion object had to be very small and very dense. The next pivotal discovery come with the launch of the Unuru x ray satellite on December 12th 1970. Its given job was to map the x ray sky; the satellite found 339 sources. Some where galaxies, some supernova remnants, but most were x ray binary stars. Here, ordinary stars stream their material onto nearby neutron stars which gets extremely hot as it falls, therefore emitting x rays. One of these sources however known as Cygnus X1 did not fall into this category. Neutron stars are formed from the collapse of stars less than 3 times the mass of the Sun. William Golding s Lord of the Flies entertains the idea that all humans are cruel and selfish within. Golding has a group of young boys stranded onto a secluded island. Having to fend for themselves the boys begin to act violent and selfish for their own personal agendas. The longer the young boys stay on the island, the more selfish, cruel thoughts and actions emerge from within them. The novel starts by introducing the group of young, friendly looking kids. The group of kids collect themselves and wonder where authorityis. Aren t there any grownups? Jack Merridew, one of the boys, asks around (Golding 21). With no real authority figure, the boys decide to band together, increasing their ability to survive. In the first moments of the book, the boys are introducing themselves. Piggy, being overweight and wearing glasses, is bullied and tormented by the group. A storm of laughter arose and even the tiniest child joined in. For the moment the boys were a closed circuit of sympathy with Piggy outside: he went very pink, bowed his head , and cleaned his glasses again (Golding 21). In the most general sense of the current definition, a cult is merely a group that worships. Other sources have added their objective meanings of the word. Carter quotes Roger Finke as saying that cults are religious groups that are not spin offs of other accepted religions. This definition includes many world religions, regardless of size. It carries no negative connotation, but instead classifies cults as a term for a certain origination of religion. Another definition is a sharply bonded social group or diffusely bounded social movement ... held together through a shared commitment to a charismatic leader (Lalich). This definition can stretch so far as to include non religious groups. Atheism, agnosticism, even political movements and societies and clubs can be considered cults. Once again, this definition carries no connotation, just the requirement of a personable leader. The word CULT comes from the Indo European word kwel which meant to revolve around something, sojourn together, and to dwell. Heteronormativity constructs heterosexual assumptions of gender and sex as an ideal and moral imperative, cooperating with and sustaining systems of power (Berlant and Warner 1998; Sharma 1999). Systems of power create a hierarchy within heteronormativity, doling privilege to some and marginalizing others. This hierarchy is present in homosexual communities as well. Norms within the homosexual community marginalize other kids of sex, gender, and sexuality difference (Stryker 2008). Using Butler s concept of gender performativity illustrates the way that repetitive performances of gender leads to social coherency. Unable to attain heteronormative standards as lesbians, the couples conform to heteronormative standards in several key ways. Through the promotion of a homonormative domestic discourse, producers tame the otherwise deviant sexual subjects to render them non threatening to a straight audience, with a broader political impact that depoliticizes and demobilizes the LGBTQ population (Duggan 2002; Erhart 2013; Warner 2000). In adhering these key standards of heterosexual culture, a homonormative portrayal of lesbian motherhood emerges. Visually and conceptually, both couples replicate the heterosexual pattern of masculine and feminine gender difference and the power difference it implies (Hammock 2009). • 14. Bishop And Roethke On The Contradictions Of Perception Date Overwhelming Sensuousness: Bishop and Roethke on the Contradictions of Perception My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke and The Fish by Elizabeth Bishop depict the seemingly disparate subjects of a rough, playful dance between a drunken father and his son and a fish just pulled from the sea. Different in this way, the poems share an intense desire to render the ambiguity of subjective experience. More specifically, they show how embracing this ambiguity produces rich, potentially ecstatic modes of perception. While My Papa s Waltz centers on the subjective oscillation between what John McKenna calls love and fright; excitement and concern, The Fish probes the dichotomy between life and death, the human and the inhuman (38). Roethke s speaker seems to remain caught within the binary aspects of his sensory perception, struck by its contradictory richness, but Bishop offers a glimpse of how the oscillation gives way to epiphany, to what C.K. Doreski calls a leap from perception to wisdom (112). By directing readers attention to the importance of engaging subjective experience in a way that does not smooth over its contradictory elements, both poems are able to powerfully render the heightened modes of being that can emerge from an immersion in the sensuality of daily existence. I will demonstrate this claim via a close examination of the poems imagery, diction, tone, and autobiographical contexts. In order to approach the poems on their own terms, to ... Instead this post will discuss the four popular red wines: Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Merlot. Also, this isn t a post about how to choose a red, this is a post about its history, flavors and wine Cabernet Sauvignon The Cabernet Sauvignon grape is a small thick skinned blue purple grape with lots of seeds in proportion to its size(A 150). There are two main reasons that Cabernet Sauvignon continues to thrill our palates and table is its ability to adapt to soil and climate and its ability to resist plant viruses and diseases (B 38). Two significant sites for Cabernet Sauvignon are Bordeaux, France and Napa Valley, California (A 152). In France, the ancient gravel of Bordeaux holds heat which allows the vines to stay warm while at the same time preventing the vine from truly thriving. It is the barely surviving that makes the flavor so intense and produces the highly sought after fruit (A 152). In California s Napa Valley it is the ability of the rocky and volcanic soil of the alluvial (fan??) to hold water and nutrients, which creates the signature flavor (A 153). When it comes to bottling the Cabernet Sauvignon is rarely bottled alone. In Bordeaux it is usually part of a team of red grapes that includes either Merlot and Cabernet Franc, or Malbec, or and Petit Verdot(A 140). Efficient Resource Allocation In Cognitive Radio Networks Efficient resource allocation in cognitive radio networks considering time varying constraints Abstract: Wide spread acceptance of wireless technologies has given rise to increase in demand for bandwidth .cognitive radio was developed as a promising technique to overcome the scarcity of spectrum resources in wireless communication. The term cognitive radio is defined as an intelligent radio that can be programmed and configured dynamically. Particular portion of the spectrum can be used only by a specific user of communication systems i.e. licensed user (or) primary user (PU). The secondary user is cognitive user (CR). There are two main paradigms to implement CR in practical, namely interweave and underlay techniques. The main motive of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In underlay transmission method the secondary users use the licensed band along with the active primary users but to keep the interference to the PU s under a predefined threshold level the SU s will control their power accordingly, where as in interweave transmission the SU s use the licensed band when no active primary user is present [3]. Spectrum sensing in cognitive radio is performed to know the surrounding radio environment such as PU s existence and usage of spectrum in geo graphical area and it determine the spectrum holes. Based on the spectrum sensing results, the process of identifying the best channel to meet the QOS to the user is known as spectrum management. It assigns that channel to the cognitive user. Scheduling coefficients, rate, power are the resources available for cognitive radio to adapt. In spectrum management by using some time varying constraints it identifies the best channel in the spectrum, but there are still few challenges in design faced by cognitive radio paradigm For controlling interference we need some extra constraints. The volatile nature of CR may cause outdated statistical channel state information. It is difficult to acquire instantaneous CSI of the PU. For first design challenge, interference can inflicted by either through average (long term) transmit power constraints or instantaneous (short term) constraints [4]. The instantaneous constraints have been focused as the second design challenge, handling these constraints ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is shown that the persona disapproves the mending of the wallthrough the personification of apple trees. Thus, it creates an impact on the audience as well leaving them wondering whether the man and the women will ever see each other again. What this means is that laws, policies, and guidelines that the government enforces are all influenced by what is being said and done in pop culture. It may be hard to see this example today, but there were certain parts in time where this idea could be easily seen. One of these eras was the 1960s. The 1960s was filled with turbulence. This is because of all of the significant events happening during this time period: the arms race, the space race, the burst of new innovations, and the Cold War. During all of these events, a revolution was beginning in the states. Many people saw what was wrong with the United States, and strived to change it. This is how all sorts of movements began to take place during this time period, like the civil rights movement. All of these movements were to promote social justice. Some pop culture icons of the time voiced their thoughts about this social justice. Three of these icons were influential musicians. These musicians are Janis Joplin, Marvin Gaye, and Bob Dylan. Throughout history, and especially recently, humans have been the cause of many species going extinct or threatened of extinction. Primates are no exception to the destructive and damaging effects. Humans feel as if they are superior to other species, even those who are biologically similar to us. Humans feel the need to dominate other specieswhich is one reason primates are being hunted. Many people who hunt primates claim that they are hunting for bushmeat. This statement is true, but it is not necessary in many areas where there are many more sources of protein. Some people in certain areas hunt primates for the sport of it, which is extremely devastating to many different species of primates. There have been some efforts made in order to protect certain species of primates. Another cause for endangered speciesof primates is deforestation. Some efforts that have been made are nature sanctuaries and creating laws against hunting. What needs to be done in order to decrease hunting and deforestation is education of subject to the people of the areas. One species of primate that is critically endangered due to the effects of humans, is the Hapalemur alaotrensis, or commonly referred to as the Alaotra Gentle Lemur. The newly formed Early Christian religion, the Roman culture, and the Greek culture are no exception to this occurrence. Though living close in proximity to each other, their views differed vastly, in respect to both religionand culture. Roman and Greek views indulged the here and now , while those views of the Early Christians centered on the hereafter . It is upon the examination of a few artworks taken from either side, that this contrast becomes extremely apparent. Though there was an idea of an afterlife in Roman and Greek mythology, it was generally not taken seriously by the people. Thus the All that is good in this worldly life, is the only good to seek mentality prevailed. In their numerous artworks we see this mentality in the display of scenes of indulgence, of worldly matters, and finery. In fact, the purpose of the artwork itself is that it is meant to be a beautifying piece, to grace the homes and villas, and add to the beauty of this world. In the sculpture Discobolos different aspects of worldly good are identifiable. A youthful man with a well sculpted body poses in a way that accentuates his muscles, as he prepares to throw a discus. In the book Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s stone, J.K rowling represents an overall theme of unfairness. Harry Potter is caught up in an unfair world of hand me downs. The book shows this through evidence such as the fact that Harry doesn t know how he got to the Dursleys home and that his entire family are wizards. My first point of evidence is that Harry was never told how he got to the dursleys home. This is evidence of the theme of unfairness that runs throughout the book because the dursleys never had the time or caringness to tell Harry how he got to their house. Some example of this could be when J.K Rowling writes, He layed Harry gently on the doorstep, took a letter out of his cloak, tucked it inside Harry s blanket s and then came back to the other two. This quote allows the author to show that there was a note explaining everything to Harry, but they never tell Harry... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some evidence that the dursleys were trying to hide Harry in an unfair way was the fact that he was only allowed to wear Dudleys old clothes and had to keep his bangs long. I think this evidence really ties together the whole theme because it shows the Dursleys didn t like magic, they were trying to hide it from Harry, this could be seen as unfair. They then followed that path by not telling him he was a wizard, how he got to their house, or how his parents died. She left childbirth, a physical act, in an image through constantly noticing the relationship between her physical experiences and her paintings and being absorbed into actions of creation borne from her pain. It is almost difficult to find works of art that depict this theme as honestly as Kahlo in Western art history. The first generation of feminists tried to reevaluate and praise the value of feminine attributes, especially the female body, differentiated from masculine attributes and feminine experiences with an essentialist attitude. Kahlo was praised as a legendary feminist artist, as the women inside her self portraits are not passive objects for men s visual satisfaction but active observers who look closely into their minds. As mentioned above as well, the female artists dilemma is that they are not only the subject of painting but also the object being observed. Amid art history, established and dominated by men, instead of depicting men as her competitors, Kahlo visualized the introspection of herself in her paintings. She did not limit her role to competing with men, but she unfolded her sad personal history in her unique way. Among them, the image of women depicted in Self Portrait with Curly Hair (1935) (Figure 25) and Self Portrait with Cropped Hair (1940) (Figure 2) are not at all passive. It is in line with the effort made by feminists involved in the early feminist art movement, which was to change the passive and negative female image created by men. Kahlo is a true feminist artist as she delivered truth observed through women s eyes in the period in which only truth seen through men s eyes was accepted. Illusions and Realities in Ibsen s Plays The Wild Duck and Ghosts In Ibsen s The Wild Duck, illusions and reality are set into a conflict within the story of a son s personal desire to confront idealism. Throughout much of the play, the son, Greger, argues the value of truth with the reluctant Dr. Relling. Relling insists on the importance of illusions, but fails to discourage Greger s intentions and a play that begins as a comedy quickly turns into a tragedy because of these conflicts. The novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, addresses the issues of racism and discrimination in the south during the 1930s through a trial concerning rape. The evidence within the case shows that Tom Robinson is innocent because of Mayella Ewell, the young lady that claims she was raped, has most of her bruises on her right side, however, Tom Robinson s left arm is completely useless. To add, Tom sounds more trustworthy than the other two witnesses, Mayella and Bob Ewell. The first witness, Heck Tate, says during his testimony, It was her right eye, Mr. Finch. I remember now, she was bunged up on that side of the face... (Lee 225), with this information, it makes it less likely that Tom Robinson had assaulted Mayella because his left arm was fully twelve inches shorter than his right (Lee 248). However, it is more probable that Bob Ewell abused Mayella because, during Bob Ewell s cross examination, Atticus asks him to write his name, and Judge Taylor realizes Bob Ewell is left handed when announcing, You re left handed, Mr. Ewell (Lee 237). During Heck Tate s testimony, he says that Mayella s right side of the face was beaten up, however, Tom Robinson s left arm is shorter than his right, so it is implausible he would have pummelled Mayella s face, but it s more likely for Bob Ewell to do so because he is left handed, and, in general, is a horrible person. Melinda Gates explains that as people work to provide more education and contraceptives to women in third world countries, the birth rate will naturally decrease, especially as they worry less about having a child survive into adulthood (Rosen). Bill Gates has mentioned the possibility of a new charity dedicated to solving the climate change issue because he views it as the most imminent threat to the survival and advancement of humanity. An article on The Guardian even mentions that The foundation s annual letter for 2015 says their achievements could be undone by the advancing climate crisis. (Mathiesen).
